About Hollywood Forever

Hollywood Forever  is a full-service  funeral home ,  crematory ,  cemetery , and  cultural events center  in the heart of Hollywood.

Founded in 1899, the cemetery is one of the world’s most visited landmarks, and the final resting place of hundreds of Hollywood legends, including  Judy Garland, Cecil B. DeMille, Rudolph Valentino, Mickey Rooney, Tyrone Power, Douglas Fairbanks, Johnny and Dee Dee Ramone, Valerie Harper, Chris Cornell, and hundreds of others, alongside thousands of neighborhood residents and individuals from across the globe. The functioning cemetery offers lawn spaces,  cremation niches ,  mausoleum crypts , and the  Beth Olam  section is one of the oldest, active Jewish cemeteries in California.

Since 2000, Hollywood Forever has partnered with Cinespia to present cinema screenings each summer on the Fairbanks Lawn, and the cemetery’s  Dia de Los Muertos  celebration attracts over 30,000 visitors each year. Paramount Studios was built on the undeveloped south end of the original site, where the studio still operates, and the cemetery was listed on the National Register of Historic Sites in 1999.

California Cemetery Tours: 9 Graveyards You Can Visit

graveyard tours los angeles

Cemeteries hold the remains of some fascinating characters and chronicle the history of their area. Some people want to tour them for the thrills and ghosts, but they're also some of the best places to explore a locale's history.

These cemeteries and graveyards offer guided tours. Some are hosted year-round and others only happen in October.

Cypress Lawn Cemetery, Colma (San Francisco)

Cypress Lawn is a late 19th Century cemetery full of spectacular angels, over-the-top mausoleums. It's just south of San Francisco - and the last resting place of famous, infamous and just plain interesting San Franciscans.

Guided walking tours are held on Saturdays between April and October. They also offer historical trolley tours of the grounds, Victorian heritage days, and other events. Check their website for details and a full list of events .

Alhambra Cemetery, Contra Costa County

Early Contra Costa County pioneers came to California by gold but fulfilled their dreams of a prosperous life in other ways, settling the area around the town of Martinez. Earliest burials date to the 1850s.

The Martinez Historical Society offers public walking tours of the Alhambra Cemetery once a year, but you can take a self-guided version anytime by going to their website , where you can also check their events calendar for the live tours.

Forest Lawn, Glendale (Los Angeles)

Forest Lawn is the final resting place of more famous people than you can count and chockful of interesting chapels and artwork. They don't offer public tours, and their staff isn't helpful to visitors, but you can still do a self-guided tour.

The overview of the cemetery at Seeing Stars is one of the best places to start your research.

Ghosts and Gravestones in San Diego

Tours with Ghosts and Gravestones include a walk through the old El Campo Santo Cemetery and a trip to the Whaley House, both of them sites of many reported paranormal occurrences.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery, Los Angeles

Hollywood Forever Cemetery dates from the early days of Hollywood, next to Paramount Studios and the last resting place of many famous stars and filmmakers.

In late October, Hollywood Forever hosts the Los Angeles Day of the Dead celebration .

Otherwise, you can take their regular tour a couple of times a month.

Long Beach Municipal and Sunnyside Cemeteries

Around Halloween time, the Long Beach Historical Society hosts tours of the city's two oldest resting grounds, where (as they say) "every plot has a story."

Tours include  graveside presentations by professional and volunteer actors who relate the life and demise of the person lying in rest.

Old City Cemetery, Sacramento

Sacramento mayors, California governors, Civil War Veterans, and victims of the 1850 Cholera Epidemic are only a few of the folks interred at Old City Cemetery.

They offer plenty of guided tours so you can learn all about those fascinating former residents. In late October, their Lantern Tours raise lots of money, selling out well in advance.

Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery, Sonoma County

You can take a self-guided tour through the Rural Cemetery near Santa Rosa, or take one of their themed tours that may include Stones and Images, the Darkside, or Lamplight tours are given after dark.

Yorba Cemetery, Orange County

The historic Yorba Cemetery dates back to 1834, and it was active until 1939.

Now it's part of the Orange County Parks system, and they give tours on a regular basis.

Cemeteries are fascinating landmarks. While on the one hand they are the resting places of our ancestors, they can also be regarded as centers of historical and cultural preservation. Whether you come to visit the grave of a loved one, a celebrity, or just to wander, these ten Los Angeles cemeteries are intriguing sites for spooky Halloween tours.

Westwood Village Memorial Park

Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery

Westwood Village Memorial Park is a small and intimate cemetery located a short drive away from the University of California, Los Angeles. It is the resting place of the most famous names in Hollywood, including Dean Martin, Bettie Page, and Farah Fawcett. Walking around the cemetery, you also come across Hollywood’s tragedy-stricken starlets, Marilyn Monroe and Natalie Wood, who were immortalized post-mortem due to their deaths, lives, and careers. Westwood Village Memorial is definitely the place to find the dark side of Hollywood and fame.

Grand View Memorial Park

Filled with beautiful headstones dating back to 1884, Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery has the perfect creepy aura for a Halloween cemetery trip. The cemetery is poorly maintained, which heightens the spookiness of the cemetery. While the cemetery is primarily full of politicians, there are a few interesting figures to visit during your tour of Angelus-Rosedale. Maria Rasputin , daughter of Russian mystical healer and close friend of Russia’s Imperial family Grigori Rasputin, is buried here. In addition, famed murderer Louise Peete , convicted of killing three or more victims, also rests in Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery after a gas chamber execution in 1947.

Grand View Memorial Park

Grand View Memorial Park was established in 1884 in Glendale, CA. The cemetery is currently under new ownership, but has had a dark history with previous owners, lawsuits and maintenance issues. In 2005, the cemetery’s license was suspended after officials found cremated remains of people who had passed as early as the 1930s scattered in trash bins and storage rooms. A year later, Marsha Howard, one of the cemetery owners, was found dead from natural causes in the cemetery and being reported missing. Fans of Leo G. Carroll can also pay their respects to the actor famous for his Hitchcock films here.

San Fernando Pioneer Memorial Cemetery

Initially known as the Morningside Cemetery, the San Fernando Pioneer Memorial Cemetery in Sylmar is one of the most enigmatic cemeteries in the area. 40 acres of land were initially set aside in 1874 for the cemetery. With businesses and real estate rapidly increasing, the size of the cemetery eventually trickled down to 3.8 acres of land. It had been privately owned for most of its existence, and the last officially noted burial was in 1939. The cemetery was neglected, vandalized, and left in a tragic state. In 1959, the Native Daughters of the Golden West were handed the rights to the cemetery and since then attempted to preserve it. The only clue they received was a list of 600 burials along with the deed. The mystery, however, still remains, as only 13 tombstones and a little over 200 gravesites are found. Currently, it is considered a historical landmark and open to visitors.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Hollywood’s first cemetery was founded in 1899 on a 100-acre land located on Santa Monica Boulevard. Hollywood Forever is famous as the resting place of some of Hollywood’s famous celebrities, including Peter Lorre , who was famous for his role as serial killer Hans Beckert in the German thriller M . For a truly horrific grave visit, make sure to stop by founder of Griffith Park , Griffith J. Griffith’s grave. Part philanthropist and part attempted murderer alcoholic maniac, Griffith was a real life Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde who shot his wife in the face while she knelt before him. Stop by the cemetery this Halloween to catch a screening of Rocky Horror Picture Show at Cinespia .

Holy Cross Cemetery

Evergreen Cemetery

Contrary to other cemeteries in this article, Holy Cross Cemetery in Culver City is comparatively well maintained and lush with green grass. It was founded in 1939 and is well known as the resting place of many influential Hollywood artists and stars. It is a Roman Catholic cemetery, operated and maintained by the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Holy Cross is a must-see for classic horror fans. Bela Lugosi , most famous for his portrayal of the original 1931 Dracula , is buried here.

Evergreen Cemetery

Evergreen Cemetery in Boyle Heights is the oldest cemetery in Los Angeles, dating back to 1877, and one of the few cemeteries that never refused African Americans and immigrants. Amongst the dead in Evergreen Cemetery is Hugo Zacchini , the first man to ever be shot out of a cannonball. Evergreen is also one of the largest cemeteries with over 300,000 interments, including a nine-acre Potter’s Field of unidentified people and a crematorium. The cemetery has had its share of troubles, particularly when 23 bags of scattered human bones were found in dirt piles around the cemetery. Whether you visit for Zacchini’s grave or for the cemetery’s demented history, Evergreen is sure to be a thrill for any cemetery enthusiast.

Chapel of the Pines Crematory

Located near downtown Los Angeles, Chapel of the Pines is located a short walking distance from the Angelus-Rosedale Cemetery. The impressive column entrance and dome structure of this 1903 crematory is reminiscent of ancient Roman buildings. Although there aren’t spooky stories or ghostly haunts at this crematory, it is worth visiting for the beautiful design. Amongst the cremated here is actress Helen Chandler , famous for her role as Mina Seward in the original 1931 Dracula . She rests in a certain section of the crematory where visitors are not allowed.

Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Glendale)

Forest Lawn is rather well known to southern Californians. It is one of the largest cemetery chains, with ten locations scattered around Los Angeles, Orange County, and Coachella Valley. The original Forest Lawn was established in the city of Glendale in 1906. The cemetery is green and lush, and its hilly landscape provides spectacular views for a morbidly romantic picnic in the cemetery. The cemetery includes magnificent churches, a museum, and breathtaking views of the city. Classic horror fans can also visit the grave of the horror genre’s Man of a Thousand Faces , Lon Chaney .

Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Only in Hollywood can a cemetery be a sacred resting space but also be a tourist attraction and a venue for cultural events.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery, which used to be known as Hollywood Memorial Park, is a functioning cemetery that is the final resting place of more of Hollywood’s founders than any other place in the world. It is also one of the oldest cemeteries in Los Angeles.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery

The cemetery is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites. If you live in the Los Angeles area or plan a trip to Hollywood, a visit to Hollywood Forever Cemetery is unique to your itinerary.

The cemetery was founded in 1899 on 100 acres. Later, the cemetery sold off some land to Hollywood Paramount Studios, built in the back half of the original cemetery property.

A portion of the cemetery is set aside as the Beth Olam Cemetery, a dedicated Jewish burial ground, is the final resting place for Hollywood’s Jewish community.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery

This cemetery was famous with many of the founders of Hollywood’s largest studios and directors, performers, and writers. Hundreds of favorite early Hollywood stars are buried here, including Jayne Mansfield, Rudolph Valentino, Douglas Fairbanks, etc.

Cecil B. DeMille, the director of the Ten Commandments, is buried here, and his large tomb depicts two matching Egyptian-style sarcophagi. Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel is buried in the mausoleum on the cemetery grounds near Paramount Studios.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Johnny Ramone, the guitar player for the Ramones, is buried here, with his grave marker featuring a statue of him, from the waist up, rocking out on a guitar; a fitting memorial for punk rock powerhouse.

There was a period when the cemetery fell into despair. However, it was purchased in the late 1990s by a family from Missouri. They renamed the cemetery and worked to restore and refurbish the place. Through their investments, the graveyard was revitalized, and people, once again, came to visit the final resting place of the stars.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery

People choose to visit the cemetery for a variety of reasons. Family members come to see the resting place of their loved ones, and fans and Hollywood buffs come to see the graves of the town’s stars and starlets. Others come just out of curiosity or to find a quiet space in the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles.

The cemetery includes large grassy areas, meandering roads, a pond feature, and several mausoleums. Some of the tombstones are dramatic, featuring ornate detail, pictures, etc.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Hollywood Forever Cemetery Events

The cemetery hosts events, including summertime movie showings where movies are projected on the side of the white marble mausoleum. People bring blankets, lawn chairs, food, and drink and take in the show. Each movie draws an average of 3,000 people.

There are also Dia de Los Muertos festivities in late October/early November, where families artfully decorate the graves and tombs of their deceased relatives. The Masonic Hall is also at the cemetery, and hosts live musical events, often selling out.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Cemetery Ghost Stories

There are many stories of ghostly encounters for those of you who like ghost stories. One account is that the ghost of William Randolph Hearst is said to visit the grave of Marion Davies, his mistress.

Some are visiting the grave of Virginia Rappe, a silent film actress, and report hearing sounds of a woman sobbing, though no one is around that is crying. These are just a few stories of the paranormal activity occurring at the cemetery.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery Johnny Ramone

Hollywood Forever Cemetery Parking

Parking is free in the cemetery (events are not), and there is a small shop to purchase flowers and gifts. Free street parking can be found nearby.

If you plan to visit Hollywood Forever, please remember that this is a cemetery, and you should politely carry yourself during your visit. Don’t horseplay, use loud voices, run or engage in activities that could damage gravesites or markers or disrupt other visitors.

Motion picture historian Karie Bible leads a walking tour through the cemetery, or you can wander around the graveyard for free. Bring sunscreen, a hat, a light jacket for weather changes, and some water. More information on the tours can be found here .

Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Where is Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Plan on spending about one hour at Hollywood Forever cemetery, leaving plenty of time for checking out the rest of Hollywood’s attractions.

Planning your Visit: Hollywood Forever is located at 6000 Santa Monica Boulevard, just west of N. Van Ness Avenue in Hollywood. From Highway 101, take the Santa Monica Blvd (SR-2) exit and proceed west. Cemetery hours of operation are 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM, seven days a week.

A guide to 18 of Hollywood Forever’s most famous residents

From Jayne Mansfield to Bugsy Siegel

For those looking to shake up their Halloween routine, may we suggest a leisurely cemetery tour. While all of LA’s graveyards have their fair share of celebs interred, Hollywood Forever Cemetery really takes the cake in terms of diversity of the deceased.

Figures who molded and shaped Los Angeles as we know it today— Los Angeles Times publisher and real estate investor Harry Chandler; Griffith J. Griffith, who gave the land that would become Griffith Park to the city—rest eternally alongside famous movie people without whom Hollywood would have surely suffered, like epic-movie-maker Cecil B. DeMille, and rock royalty, like Johnny and Dee Dee Ramone.

This guide to the gravestones was compiled with a lot of help from Hollywood Forever’s own grave guide , which gives information on burial locations down to the plot number.

Harry Chandler

Chandler married Harrison Gray Otis' daughter and later took over as publisher of the LA Times . His major real estate investments played an enormous role in shaping LA as we know it today. [Image via Wildhartlivie ]

A light grey gravestone with letters that reads Harry Chandler and Marian Otis Chandler.

Harrison Gray Otis

The man without whom the LA Times probably wouldn't exist. Editor and publisher of the LA Times for nearly three decades. Known for his conservative politics, he's part of why the LA Times building was targeted by union activists who blew it up in 1910. [Image via Swampyank ]

A dark grey gravestone in Hollywood Forever cemetery. The words on the gravestone read Harrison Gary Otis and Sally Foster Otis.

Griffith J. Griffith

The man responsible for donating the land that is now Griffith Park, and leaving behind the money to build the Greek Theatre and the Griffith Observatory. He had a run-in with the law after he shot his wife in the face (he says it was an accident) and served two years in San Quentin. A very cool obelisk marks his grave.

An aerial view of the Hollywood Forever cemetery. There is a red arrow pointing to a large gravestone which is numbered with the number three. There are trees on the perimeter of the cemetery.

Hobart J. Whitley

This native Canadian's gravestone calls him the "Father of Hollywood," as he named the place while honeymooning with his wife. He also helped develop Reseda and Van Nuys. Whitley Heights is named for him.

Cecil B. DeMille

When he wasn't building Egyptian cities in the dunes or giving entire homes as wedding presents , DeMille directed over 50 films, silent and with sound, including The Ten Commandments and Cleopatra . [Image via Wildhartlivie]

Rudolph Valentino

The handsome silent film star died young (only 31!), crushing the hopes and dreams of droves of young women who loved the actor from afar. According to a cemetery tour guide , Valentino's grave is still, to this day, "the most celebrated, visited and talked-about." [Image via Alan Light ]

A pink marble gravestone. There are two plaques on the gravestone with words that read Peter Lorre 1904-1964 and Anne Marie Lorre 1922-1971.

Jayne Mansfield

Platinum-blonde Mansfield was a sex symbol whom some called "the working man's Monroe," as she was definitely a rival of Marilyn Monroe. She died at just 34 in a tragic car accident. Her gravemarker here is more of a memorial; she's actually buried in Pennsylvania. [Image via Kafziel Complaint Department]

A brown and white gravestone in the Hollywood Forever cemetery. The words on the gravestone read Jayne Mansfield 1938-1967 We live to love you more each day.

Hattie McDaniel

McDaniel worked in both radio and film and has stars on the Walk of Fame for both. She won an Academy Award for her role in Gone With The Wind, and was the first African-American to be awarded the honor. She was supposed to be buried here but due to prevailing segregation rules at the cemetery, was actually interred elsewhere. This marker was added in the late ’90s. [Image via Wildhartlivie ]

Johnny Ramone

The clear winner of the unofficial award for best gravemarker in the entire cemetery (and maybe all of LA) is this leather-jacketed rocker who was a founding member of the punk bank The Ramones. [Image via Wikimedia ]

A monument statue at the Hollywood Forever cemetery. The statue is of Johnny Ramone who is dressed in a leather jacket and jeans. He is playing a metallic silver guitar.

Dee Dee Ramone

Dee Dee was a founding member of the Ramones, and also wrote songs and played bass for the group. Some of the Ramones best jams were penned by Dee Dee, including "53rd & 3rd" and "Rockaway Beach." [Image via Sean Russell ]

Tyrone Power

From the 1930s to the 1950s, Power starred in scads of films including The Mask of Zorro and Prince of Foxes. Later in his career, he took on more serious, weighty roles like in Witness for the Prosecution, in which he played a man accused of murder.

An above ground gravesite. The stone coffin has a sign that reads Tyrone Power. There is a decorative flower display in front of the gravesite.

Vampira (Maila Nurmi)

The original Vampira, Nurmi was an aspiring actress who "made it" doing a late-night TV show as the creepy character. She was also in Ed Wood's Plan 9 From Outer Space. Admirers still leave plastic fangs on her grave sometimes. [Image via Kafziel Complaint Department ]

A grey gravestone. The words Maila Nurmi Vampira Hollywood Legend are written on the gravestone. There is a drawing of Vampira next to the words. There are two plastic models of fangs sitting against the gravestone. The gravestone is surrounded by plants

Marion Davies

Davies is best remembered as William Randolph Hearst's mistress, but she was also an actress and producer, and began her career on Broadway. She also had a fair amount of money on her own; when Hearst's company was failing in the late Thirties, she wrote him a million-dollar check to get out of debt.

John Huston

A director who wrote scripts for many of the epics he produced, Huston's big work like The Treasure of Sierra Madre, The Maltese Falcon, and The African Queen garnered him 15 Oscar nominations. (He won twice.) [Image via Kafziel Complaint Department ]

The cemetery serves a multitude of cultures and honors a diversity of traditions. All faiths and traditions, new and old, are welcome. Beth Olam (House of Eternity) is a separate Jewish burial ground within the cemetery. We also have a cremation and stupa garden for our Buddhist families. Hollywood Forever was one of the first cemeteries in the nation to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos and our celebration has become a treasured Los Angeles tradition.

The history and beauty of our cemetery grounds will provide a sense of comfort to you today, and to your loved ones for generations to come.

Los Angeles Convenience and Centrality

In the heart of Hollywood, adjacent to Paramount Studios on our Southern boundary, Hollywood Forever offers the convenience of a funeral home chapel, crematory, and cemetery located all within our grounds. We also have a full-service Flower Shop and historic reception facilities in our Eastern Star Room. We work with other funeral homes, churches, temples and other venues to coordinate off-site funeral services and memorials.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Cemetery and Burial Options

Hollywood Forever offers a wide range of burial places and memorialization options.

Traditional Burial

We offer a wide selection of traditional burial spaces throughout our park-like grounds. Our beautiful lakes, reflecting pools, and forested lawns offer a variety of scenic spots to select from. Many areas have a view of the Hollywood sign in the distance. Each grave space at Hollywood is considered a double interment space and can accommodate up to two burials. Family members may also purchase additional interment rights for cremation burials on existing family graves.

Private Mausoleum

The grounds of Hollywood Forever are dotted with granite private family mausoleums . With our masons and stone resources, we can help you design a private building for your final resting place that matches your aesthetics with burial crypts and cremation niches to serve generations of your family.

Community Mausoleum

Hollywood Forever has many historic mausoleum buildings as well as an ongoing construction program to create 25,000 new crypt spaces over the next 15 years in our five-story mausoleum with views of downtown and the Hollywood Hills. Mausoleum crypts are our most affordable traditional burial option.

Green Burial and Natural Burial

We are pleased to offer an environmentally friendly, or Green burial , at Hollywood Forever.  Hollywood Forever is proud to be certified as a Hybrid Cemetery by the Green Burial Council .   Green Burial is for those wishing to be buried naturally with no embalming in a burial shroud or a simple pine, wicker, or other natural biodegradable casket.  Also, vaults are not used.  Instead, the burial soil is mounded and gradually recedes over time.  As part of the service, attendees are encouraged to participate in the burial process.  Memorial options include a newly planted tree, a succulent planting, and an inscribed natural bolder

For those wishing to have a green burial in a conservation landscape, we can arrange for transfers to our sister cemetery in Marin County, Fernwood Cemetery.

Fernwood Cemetery is one of the first green burial grounds of its kind in the United States and continues to pioneer green and conservation burial techniques and emerging traditions. Fernwood also includes Gan Yarok , America’s first green Jewish cemetery.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Cremation Options

Hollywood Forever offers a variety of cremation services and cremation options .

Indoor Glass Fronted Cremation Niches

Our indoor mausoleums also feature glass-fronted cremation niches that allow for the display of cremation urns, photographs, and other mementos.

Outdoor Stone Fronted Niches

We have many beautiful stone-fronted cremation niches adjacent to our reflection pools, fountains, and historic architectural exteriors. Many niches accommodate multiple cremated remains (“ashes”).

Cremation Scattering

Cremated remains (“ashes”) may also be scattered in our Rose Garden with memorial plaques available at the garden’s edge. We can also arrange for cremated remains (“ashes”) to be scattered at sea with one of our trusted providers, with or without an accompanying memorial service at sea.

Ground Burial for Cremation

Smaller ground burial spaces may be selected throughout our lawns and gardens for the interment of cremation urns within vaults. Memorials may include benches, stones, upright monuments, and even tree plantings.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery

Freedom to Express

Unlike lawn park cemeteries that permit only flat markers, Hollywood Forever encourages creativity and expression. One-of-a-kind monuments, statuaries, headstones and structures in a variety of artistic and architectural styles fill the landscape of our park-like cemetery. Our in-house studio of stonemasons will work with you to create a custom memorial reflective of the life it is to honor.

Advance Planning

Many of our clients pre plan , opting to select and purchase their burial spaces, crypts, or cremation niches in advance of need. We offer affordable monthly payment plans for options purchased beforehand. By making these purchases in advance, you can be assured to receive precisely what you wish, while sparing your loved ones from the expense and guesswork of having to make these decisions for you.

On-Site Flower Shop

Our flower shop , conveniently located in the Bell Tower at our front gates, always has a selection of fresh, seasonal cut flowers, potted plants, and our own homegrown succulents. Our designers are available to arrange and place floral tributes for memorials and grave sites.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can buy your own casket but you will not be able to purchase funeral savings packages that have a casket included.

Prearrangement saves money by freezing the costs at today’s prices. This saves you from having to cover inflation as well as product and overhead cost increases. Also, making calm and deliberate decisions ahead of time is almost always a more prudent path than overwhelmed and emotional survivors making these financial decisions at the time of need.

Yes, our packages include picking up the body.

Death can happen anywhere; at home, in a hospital, nursing facility, on the scene of an accident, homicide or suicide. If the decedent passes at home and is under hospice care, the hospice nurse would be called first, then they would arrive at the residence and call the funeral home. If hospice is not involved, the paramedics would be called first. The funeral home would receive notification from a police officer and we would then dispatch our care team to the residence.

If the death occurs at a hospital or nursing facility, the family or a nurse from the facility may call the funeral home first. If a nurse calls, we collect basic information including the full name of your loved one, date and time of death, date of birth, their approximate weight, name and address of the facility where they passed and contact information for the next of kin and the doctor to sign the death certificate. The hospital will request a release signed by the next of kin before we may bring your loved one into our care at the funeral home.

If a friend or family member calls, we collect basic information and follow up with the hospital. If the death was thought to be caused by an accident, homicide or suicide a police officer would contact the coroner’s office for transportation of the decedent downtown to the coroner’s office. The family would call the funeral home, information, including the coroner case number would be collected, a coroner release form would need to be signed by the next of kin before going to the coroner’s office when the decedent becomes ready for release.

If you make your arrangements in advance, we offer a wide variety of payment plans and terms for funeral, cremation, and cemetery purchases.

If you purchase at the time of need, we do require full payment before any services are performed. If you would like to finance these at-need arrangements, we can refer you to one of the finance companies we often work with.

We can keep a body in our care for up to a couple of weeks. However, we can work with you depending on your situation, please speak to one of our family service counselors. In the event that family is not able to be reached, the funeral home must file a death certificate with the health department within 8 days from the date of death. Information not known will be listed as unknown on the death certificate. An amendment can be done when the information is known. This will result in a multi paged death certificate.

Embalming is the art and science of making a decedent suitable for public or private viewing. It is often performed to ensure a better presentation of your loved one for their viewing or service by disinfecting and slowing the decomposition process.

You can call us anytime, 24 hours a day, at (323) 469-1181 .

Evergreen Cemetery

One of the oldest cemeteries in Los Angeles, Evergreen Cemetery underscores multiethnic identity of the early Eastside.

The Eastside is home to numerous historical cemeteries, revealing early planning practices in Los Angeles that placed burial sites beyond the border of the developing urban center.

Established in 1877, Evergreen Cemetery is the oldest nondenominational cemetery in Los Angeles, with numerous prominent interments on its grounds.

Prior to the cemetery's completion, the City requested the allocation of five acres for the unclaimed bodies. This area became known as a "potter's field." Though there is no equivalent to the potter's field today, each year 1,500 of the city's homeless or unidentified persons are cremated and buried in a single grave within Evergreen Cemetery.

As a sign of the multiethnic identity of the Eastside, the cemetery established wide parameters for interment, although the site was segregated by ethnicity, with separate sections established for African Americans and early residents of Chinese, Mexican, Japanese, and Armenian descent, and members of the Jewish faith.

For decades, the Chinese community was only allowed to bury its dead in a corner of the potter's field, leading to the construction of a shrine on the site in 1888. Unlike other interments in the field, the Chinese were required to pay $10 for burials.  In 1922, the community purchased land on 1st Street and Eastern Avenue and relocated most of the remains to the new Chinese Cemetery. The Chinese Historical Society of Southern California purchased the shrine and its plot of land in 1992, and it was later declared a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument.

Evergreen Cemetery also contains a memorial for the 442nd Infantry Regimental Combat Unit of Japanese soldiers. Although the memorial was dedicated in 1949, the entire unit received the Congressional Medal of Honor in 2010. In 1966, the Garden of Pines was created in honor of Issei (first generation) pioneers.

Dozens of prominent LA figures have been buried at Evergreen, including Charlotta Bass, Biddy Mason, and members of the Hollenbeck, Lankershim, and Van Nuys families.

In 2008, a jogging path was added to the periphery of the cemetery. A mile and a half in length, it is meant to serve community members who previously had little access to parks and spaces designed for physical activity.

In 2005, construction workers discovered the remains of 174 people while excavating First Street for the extension of the Gold Line. Archaeologists determined the site to be the original location of the Chinese graves in the potter's field. In September 2010, a memorial wall and meditation garden was dedicated near the Chinese shrine in recognition of this history.

If you have a curiosity for the tragic side of Hollywood history or if you just have a penchant for the macabre, you're not alone. 'Tis the season for ghoulish scenery and celebration of all things gruesome. Here's a guide to the most popular cemetery tours in LA for your Halloween enjoyment.

hollywood forever cemetery

Hollywood Forever Cemetery Walking Tour 6000 Santa Monica Blvd. Hollywood, CA 90038 (818) 517-5988 cemeterytour.com

When it comes to the history of film stars laid to rest at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, few are more knowledgeable than Karie Bible. Hollywood Forever was a fixture long before film stars made LA what it is today, and consequently, its 60 acres will be home to the stars long after they've gone. Bible enthusiastically guides sightseers through the history of Hollywood, from Florence Lawrence, the very first film star to suffer from overexposure in the press, to the grave of the legendary Vampira, where visitors leave pumpkins and other ghoulish gifts all year long. Other famous tombs include those of Toto from "The Wizard of Oz," "Golden Girls" Estelle Getty, as well as the DeMille family.

Although this cemetery is small and does not feature an internal tour guide or map, its serene, perfectly manicured grounds are home to some of Hollywood's most famous stars. Two world-famous bombshells, Marilyn Monroe and Farrah Fawcett, are laid to rest here. Make sure to also visit a few celebs who have managed to maintain their sense of humor in the Great Beyond. Merv Griffin's tombstone reads "I will not be back after this message." Rodney Dangerfield's tombstone, right next door to Fawcett, reads "There goes the neighborhood."

Hollywood Forever Cemetery: The Celebrity Cemetery of Los Angeles

There are numerous things to do in Hollywood , and the Hollywood Forever Cemetery stands out among them. It is not the only famous cemetery in the United States: just think of Arlington National Cemetery, the above-ground cemeteries in New Orleans or Salem Cemetery. But the many famous graves found here and its proximity to Paramount Studios make it a definitely worthwhile stop on a Los Angeles itinerary .

Hollywood Forever Cemetery History

How to get to the hollywood forever cemetery, opening hours, hollywood forever cemetery tours , who is buried at hollywood forever cemetery, where to stay in the area.

Hollywood Forever Cemetery History

A cemetery that is also one of the most active cultural centers in the area? In Los Angeles of course that is possible! The Hollywood Forever Cemetery not only has hundreds of graves including those of personalities who have made film history and beyond, but also has spaces where concerts, literary events, and outdoor film screenings are held each year.

The cemetery was founded in 1899 and is one of the oldest cemeteries in Los Angeles . Also located within the cemetery is an area called Beth Olam Cemetery , dedicated to the Jewish community and established in 1920. In addition to its longevity, Hollywood Forever Cemetery is famous for its many monumental graves and for being the “VIP cemetery.” Here, in fact,  Rudolph Valentino , Judy Garland, Burt Reynolds, Johnny Ramone , Edward Bunker, Harry Cohn, Charlie Chaplin’s son, Chris Cornell , and last but not least the little dog Toto from The Wizard of Oz are buried.

Within the cemetery there are green areas and man-made lakes, so the visit to discover the famous graves is also made enjoyable by the well-kept environment. Since the year 2002, thanks to the partnership with Cinespia, every year from May to September hundreds of people gather to watch the screening of old famous movies on Fairbanks Lawn after sunset. You can also enjoy an Independence Day fireworks display on July 3 and 4.

But it doesn’t end there. In this cemetery, the largest event in honor of Dia de los Muertos in the entire United States takes place. Music, colorful floats, wreaths, masks, and costumes color the cemetery, and the entire community (especially the Hispanic-American community, which is very large in this part of Hollywood) participates in the organization and success of the event. If you are in California between October 28 and November 2 , don’t miss these festivities.

There are several stops on Santa Monica Boulevard if you prefer to get around by public transportation : the 4 bus on the street itself or the Hollywood/Wilshire at the station at the corner of Santa Monica Boulevard and Gower Street.

If you are driving , there are several entrances to access the cemetery and thus numerous parking lots in the area. Near Gower Street you will find the private parking lot The Willow 5 or further south, next to Paramount Studios, Paramount Gower Parking. East of the cemetery, on Lemon Grove Avenue, is Lemon Grove Lot Paramount.

The cemetery can be visited either on your own or by purchasing tickets for a tour. A map or printed guidebook can be purchased at the flower store to explore the cemetery on your own.

Guided tours last about 2 1/2 hours and cost $25 per person and generally take place on Saturdays at 10:00 am.

If visiting a cemetery at night thrills you more, there are also nighttime guided tours . Remember to bring a flashlight! The cost is $45 per person, they last 2 1/2 hours and are usually on Sundays at 7:00 pm.

Who is Buried at Hollywood Forever Cemetery?

As anticipated, in this particular cemetery it is not so unusual to stop for a picnic among the graves, perhaps while watching an outdoor cult film or any of the other events that Hollywood Forever Cemetery’s calendar has to offer.

Of course, since you are in one of the most famous and important cemeteries in the United States , I recommend that you go in search of the graves and epitaphs of the movie and music stars present.

Here are some of the graves not to be missed:

  • Johnny Ramone , the Ramones guitarist who died in 2004. His grave depicts him with a guitar;
  • Dee Dee Ramone , the Ramones’ bassist who died in 2002;
  • Hanna Chaplin and Charlie Chaplin Jr ., respectively the mother and son of the iconic actor and producer;
  • Henry Cohn , the founder of Columbia Pictures Corporation;
  • Cecil B. DeMille , the great director who died in 1959;
  • Mel Blanc , the voice actor who gave the voices to Bugs Bunny, Duffy Duck, Sylvester Cat, Willy the Coyote, Beep Beep and Speedy Gonzales;
  • Rodolfo Valentino , who died in 1926 and for whom no words are needed;
  • Tyrone Power , sex symbol actor who died in 1958, father of Romina Power;
  • the Clark family’s large mausoleum in the middle of a pond where William Andrews Clark Jr., founder of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, also rests;
  • Chris Cornell , the lead singer of Soundgarden who died in 2017;
  • the park is also home to the cenotaph of little Toto , Dorothy’s dog in The Wizard of Oz;

These are just a few of the illustrious names featured here. On the museum’s official website you will find the interactive map with the location of the various tombs and mausoleums. Just enter the first and last name of the person you are looking for and the location, date of birth and death, some information and even a link to the flower store to have a floral tribute delivered to the grave appears.

Hollywood is a popular neighborhood full of hotels, bed and breakfasts and vacation rentals. I recommend you read our in-depth article dedicated to where to stay in Los Angeles where you will find many useful tips about this area as well.

Warning: Operating hours can change and closures for extraordinary events can occur, so we strongly suggest to check the venues official websites.

Rudolph Valentino: 1895-1926

Rodolfo Guglielmi Valentino’s final resting place at Hollywood Forever cemetery was supposed to be temporary. “They were supposed to build an elaborate memorial. The money never materialized,” Goldstein says. Instead, he remained in the crypt his family borrowed from screenwriter June Mathis. When she passed away a year after the actor, she was laid to rest in the crypt next to him.  (Genaro Molina / Los Angeles Times)

Marilyn Monroe: 1926-1962

The wall of Marilyn Monroe ‘s crypt at Westwood Memorial has been replaced numerous times because of all the fans touching and kissing it. In fact, her followers still celebrate the actress each year on the anniversary of her death, Aug. 5. Goldstein describes Westwood Memorial as the “cemetery of tragic females.” Besides Monroe, there’s Natalie Wood , Dorothy Stratten, Minnie Ripperton and Dominique Dunne.  (Bob Chamberlin / Los Angeles Times)

Douglas Fairbanks: 1883-1939

West of the mausoleum at Hollywood Forever cemetery is Fairbanks Lawn, a valley featuring a pool leading up to a lavish memorial for silent screen actor Douglas Fairbanks . Goldstein says he’s heard from eyewitnesses that when they opened the sarcophagus to bury Douglas Fairbanks Jr. in 2000 that Fairbanks senior was still perfectly preserved 61 years after his death. “He was so embalmed, they must have used stronger chemicals.”  (Genaro Molina / Los Angeles Times)

Johnny Ramone: 1948-2004

Although Johnny Ramone’s ashes remain with his wife, fans can visit his statue in his honor at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.  (Genaro Molina / Los Angeles Times)

Tyrone Power: 1914-1958

These Video Tours of L.A. Graveyards Are To Die For

The youtube series of star-studded cemeteries produced by arthur dark are becoming must-see tombstone tourism..

It was almost like Arthur Dark was born for this.

He’s got the voice, the passion, video editing chops, research skills, the look — and the vocabulary that lends to entertaining (and respectful) YouTube tours of notable graveyards around L.A. and the country.

Amassing over 100,000 subscribers since it’s debut in 2017, Dark’s Hollywood Graveyard channel is one of the most popular series of its type online. We had a chance to ask him about our local cemeteries, the diversity of sizes and styles of celebrity gravestones, and what’s the deal with unmarked graves. Join us, won’t you?

What got you interested in documenting graveyards on YouTube? It was a combination of many things: combined interests in entertainment, Hollywood history and a dash of the macabre.  Initially, I just found visiting famous graves myself fascinating, being able to connect with and pay my respects to individuals whose work I knew and loved. And in connecting with individuals I already knew, I would be introduced to new ones along the way, introduced to them, and their work — movies, TV shows, music, writings, etc., opening me up to an as-of-yet untapped mine of entertainment. I was delving much deeper into the history of Hollywood and entertainment, and in doing so, broadening my own horizons, so to speak. These were experiences I was sure others would enjoy, and appreciate, but it’s not always easy (or possible) to find famous graves. So I sought to find ways to make tombstone tourism more accessible, make it less intimidating, easier to find the graves of these notable individuals, or if not possible to visit them in person, allow audiences to visit them “virtually” through video tours. Hence Hollywood Graveyard was born.

What do you mean by “a dash of the macabre”? Would you consider yourself a goth or goth-friendly?

Oh, you know, I’m just your average guy who loves ghost stories, zombies, haunted houses, Halloween, horror, the paranormal, the writings of Poe, all things Tim Burton/Danny Elfman, that sort of thing.

You obviously spend a great deal of time and care in the production of each video, from still photos to video clips to movie posters and sound samples… how long does an average video take for you to complete? It’s hard to quantify as it really depends on a number of factors, including the location of the cemetery, the number of individuals featured, etc. A lot of work goes into researching a location and individuals before I ever set foot within a cemetery. Then there’s finding all the sites, filming, editing, etc. Anyone who has followed my channel knows I’m not a daily vlogger, nor weekly for that matter. These are short documentaries that take weeks to produce from concept to release.

Sometimes celebrities put funny things on their headstones, any we should know about? It’s always fun to see the personality of the individual shine through on their tombstone; comedians in particular are known for witty epitaphs.

Just a few that come to mind: Merv Griffin: “I Will NOT Be Right Back After These Messages” Jack Lemmon’s simply says “Jack Lemmon In” Rodney Dangerfield: “There Goes the Neighborhood” Billy Wilder: “I’m a Writer, But Then, Nobody’s Perfect” (this is an allusion to the final line in his movie “Some Like it Hot.”) Joan Hackett: “Go Away - I’m Asleep”

Los Angeles has a plethora of cemeteries, most of which have famous people resting in peace. Although Hollywood Forever seems to get the most attention, the Westwood Village Memorial Park appears to have the most famous people there per square foot. It feels like it gets overlooked. Does it? I believe Westwood does have the most stars per-capita, including one of the most visited in the world: Marilyn Monroe. It’s the easiest cemetery to navigate on foot and stumble onto someone famous every other step. There are several reasons why it’s often overshadowed, and one of them is the fact that it is quite literally overshadowed. It’s very difficult to find a tiny cemetery hidden in the shadows of high-rise buildings in Westwood. Additionally, Hollywood Forever is very active in terms of cultural events, tours, movie screenings, concerts, etc., so it’s more readily and regularly in the public eye.

In your research do you ever study how much a cemetery would cost to be buried in? If so, it would seem that Westwood, because it’s so tiny, would cost more than Hollywood Forever, for example. True?

I’ve never gone out of my way to research the numbers, but they do cross my radar from time to time. Grave plots should be thought of the same way as real estate. As availability decreases and demand increases, prices go up. And it’s all about location, location, location. Being buried next to the lake is exponentially more costly than being inturned in a niche at the top of a 10-foot wall.

Space at Westwood is quite limited, so yes, even the smallest of plots can go for a premium.  But even Hollywood Forever, or Forest Lawn (say in Great Mausoleum), have prime real estate that can go for tens, even hundreds of thousands of dollars. All this said, I’m not in the funeral business, and don’t pay much attention to the business side of things, so I’m afraid I wouldn’t be much help in steering anyone researching their own final destination.

What’s the deal with unmarked graves of famous people? Why wouldn’t they want a marker? There are several reasons why a stars’ (or anyone’s) grave may remain unmarked. First of all, it should be noted that markers don’t necessarily come with the purchase of a grave plot. Perhaps just as toys come with the disclaimer “Batteries not included,” so too should grave plots come with a similar disclaimer, “Headstone not included.” So that said, it’s up to the next of kin or estate to facilitate the placement of a marker.

Some stars explicitly decide they don’t want their grave to be marked, for whatever reason, be it privacy or financial.  Another reason may be that the family or estate simply couldn’t afford it. Just because someone was a star, doesn’t mean they died rich (many died in poverty). Another reason is timing… it takes time to get one made and placed. Perhaps the family simply hasn’t gotten around to it yet, or are holding off for a period of time, as is customary in certain cultures.

Can you name some of your favorite unmarked graves?

Just a few examples of the many stars whose graves remain unmarked include: Frank Zappa, Roy Orbison, George C Scott, Lon Chaney, Steve Allen, Stepin Fetchit, Pinto Colvig (the voice of Goofy), and lots more.

There have been a few that I initially covered that at the time were unmarked, but later did get marked, including Natalie Cole, and Bill Paxton. Again, sometimes it just takes time — decades in some cases, like the legendary John Wayne, whose grave remained unmarked for 20 years.

We’re also working with another blogger and Hollywood historian, Jessica over at Silence is Platinum , to try and get permission from next of kin and raise funds for the placement of markers for some stars who remain unmarked. She’s already undertaken several successful campaigns, including the marking of Joseph Keaton, vaudevillian and father of Buster Keaton.

One of the nice things about your channel is you often show graveyards where the director of the film might have a large headstone and the star has a simple one not far away. Sometimes it’s surprising how big of a difference their markers are in size. Is there an example of this that took you aback? It is fascinating to see the many varied ways that famous entertainers decide to be memorialized. From the grand and opulent monuments of legends like Douglas Fairbanks, Al Jolson, and Elizabeth Taylor, to the small, humble, nearly impossible to find niches of stars of equal caliber, like Humphrey Bogart, Gloria Swanson, and W.C. Fields.  Which goes to show that the size of one’s grave is not necessarily directly proportional to the brightness of one’s star.

Speaking of humble markers, could it be a Catholic thing? In your video about Holy Cross in Culver City, there are a handful of stars who one would think would have died with lots of money for grand headstones: Bing Crosby, Rita Hayworth and Jimmy Durante come to mind. Yet they each have the most simple markers.

It’s definitely not a Catholic thing. If you go to some of the east coast Catholic cemeteries, like St. John Cemetery in Queens, you’ll see some pretty grand monuments. It’s more a “cemetery thing.”

Each cemetery has their own guidelines for how graves can be marked. Sometimes those guidelines are very specific, especially at the memorial park- style cemeteries, which usually require flat lawn markers of more-or-less equal size, which is what you see at Holy Cross.

When one visits places like Hollywood Forever, there are giant headstones, a few obelisks look like miniature Washington Monuments. Do you think this was a financial decision or one of modesty for these giant stars to have an ordinary marker?

Hollywood Forever is not a memorial park-style cemetery, and they’re very accommodating of unique monuments, hence the broad spectrum of the types of graves you see at Hollywood Forever. Where a star decides to be laid to rest partially informs the type of monument they will have, regardless of their wealth or status.

Recently you did a video from Santa Barbara which looked to be one of the most beautiful cemeteries in Southern California. Is it? It is quite stunning.

Nestled up against the Pacific Ocean I’d say it has the best view, but it’s not necessarily the most beautiful.

Just as a painting or a piece of music is beautiful for different reasons than another, so too do the various cemeteries we’ve visited exhibit their own unique beauties - from the mausoleums, to the grounds and the monuments themselves.

Your latest video, spotlighting “The Wizard of Oz” is a bit of a departure from your typical videos. It has already received over a half million views. Will we see more in that style soon? “The Wizard of Oz” episode was a fun one.  It’s was a special edition I’d thought of doing for a while, but realized as 2019 was the 80th anniversary of the film’s release, that now was the time to do it.

There was also the serendipity of being able to find essentially the entire principal cast (except Margaret Hamilton, the Wicked Witch, who was cremated), and much of the principal crew. It’s such a special movie for people of all ages, the audience really responded to it.

We do themed editions from time-to-time, like “ The Twilight Zone ,” Halloween , Food , etc, and I think people get a kick out of them. They’re different than our standard Famous Grave Tours, which are based on a specific cemetery or location, rather than a theme. You will definitely see more themed episodes like this in the future.

Is Hillside Memorial Park the most over-looked cemetery in LA? We hardly hear much said about it and yet it has lots of stars, it’s easy to get to, and anyone who goes to or from LAX has passed by it. I don’t know if it’s the most overlooked, but it’s possibly the most unwittingly seen… as you mentioned, everyone driving the 405 passes right by it, the Al Jolson monument in plain view.

Is Jolson’s fountain the most over-the-top (for lack of a better word) monument in LA? Yes, yes it is.

I am sure you get emails or comments about why did you leave this person out or that one. Do you ever go back and edit someone in — or do a second video of more people if you see that there were enough that you mistakenly overlooked? I frequently get those kinds of comments, yes. I can’t edit videos once they’re uploaded, only replace them. So for any errors, I have to replace the video entirely. As for omissions, we do re-visits from time to time, and try to include some we missed, or were unable to get to. No video or series is meant to be comprehensive. To quote our Twilight Zone Special, there will always be “one more…”

There is so much going on in Hollywood Forever. You have done three wonderful videos about it. Several of the stars you feature in that trilogy are people who didn’t spend a lot of years here but have chosen to make LA their final destination.

At the top of my mind are Chris Cornell (who is known for being part of the Seattle Grunge scene) and two members of the Ramones who will forever be tied to NYC’s CBGB. Why do you think so many stars end up being buried in LA? I’ve done four actually, revisiting a year after the first trilogy. And that’s a very good question.

I think people believed Chris Cornell would eventually be laid to rest in Seattle. I have no insight as to why he, or others chose (or their families chose) Hollywood as a final resting place. Perhaps in death they still wished to be accessible to their fans, and as LA is one of the tourism and entertainment hubs in America, it seemed a logical locale.

As for the Ramones, both Dee Dee and Johnny Ramone were living here in LA when they died, so that might be why they were interred here (actually, as I understand it, Johnny’s ashes are held by his widow, and both will be interred at his iconic monument after her death). Tommy and Joey Ramone, on the other hand, were living on the east coast, and are buried out there.

Many big stars do return to their roots after death, like Myrna Loy (Montana), Ava Gardner (North Carolina), and Chris Farley (Wisconsin), to name a few.

One of my favorite graves is the Def grave by Rick Rubin, the famous record producer, who buried that word at Hollywood Forever. Is there a reason you left it out? Check out our Hollywood Forever #4 video, we visited the grave of Def .

Look at that. My bad. Have you run across other novelty graves like that? I haven’t come across another grave of inanimate objects, but there is the Penn & Teller grave (cenotaph) at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills. No, they’re not buried there (obviously), it’s the payoff of a magic trick , featuring the 3 of clubs.

Are you from L.A.? No, I’m from Utah actually. Moved here for graduate school at USC. What did you study there? I studied film music. USC has some of the best programs in the nation for film and music, especially considering working industry professionals teach and mentor there. I stayed because this is where movies are made… also there’s no snow here.

Nate Diaz was done with his cross-country press conference tour Friday night.

After several questions asked to each fighter and their teams, Diaz apparently had enough of Jorge Masvidal challenging multiple fans to a fight and called it an early night.

“It was a fun tour going out here and all this s*** all over f****** USA. I’m done with all this s***. I’m cool off with all this f****** talking s***. I got a whole team to represent. I don’t want to do none of this. I never did want to do any of it.

“F*** this n***a and f*** his team, bro. I’m out. I gotta go. Square off with yourself motherf*****.”

“Just show up to the fight. That’s it. Just show up to the fight, man,” said Masvidal in response.

The final stop of the press tour lasted 18 minutes.

Masvidal and Diaz will square off on pay-per-view on June 1 in Los Angeles.

Setlist: Bad Bunny’s three-dozen-plus-songs set at the Wells Fargo Center, all thanks to the Sixers

Sporting a Los Angeles Dodgers cap, the 'King of Latin Trap' played to a sold-out sea of cowboy hats.

Bad Bunny performs during his Most Wanted Tour stop at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Friday, April 19, 2024.

Friday night was Bad Bunny night in South Philadelphia.

The Puerto Rican rapper and pop superstar kicked off the Philly date of his Most Wanted Tour as he made his entrance just before 9:30 pm at the Wells Fargo Center, rising from beneath one of two half-oval stages situated on either end of the sports arena.

Wearing a front-to-back Los Angeles Dodgers cap and a bolo tie, Bad Bunny began with a flurry of songs from his Western themed 2023 album Nadir Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana , pausing after “MONACO” to bask in the adulation of the sold-out crowd.

The show that almost had to happen a day earlier — it was set to be moved to Thursday if the Sixers had lost to Miami Heat on Wednesday and needed to to play another NBA play-in game at the Wells Fargo on Friday — ran for 2 1/2 hours, divided into multiple segments, one of which featured Bad Bunny re-entering the arena riding a horse.

Fans wearing cowboy hats and Bad Bunny LED cowboy boot necklaces rapped and sang along over the course of three-dozen-plus songs, almost all of which had lyrics entirely in Spanish.

This is Bad Bunny’s set list for the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on April 19, 2024. A full review will be published on Saturday.
