When you're logged into the same iCloud account from multiple Apple devices, iCloud will sync your Safari browsing history across the devices. Sometimes, however, your devices can get out of sync and waiting around for iCloud to catch up can be frustrating.

With little effort you can manually force iCloud to sync your Safari history using your Mac, OS X Daily reports.

The first thing you need to do is enable a hidden Debug menu in Safari using a Terminal command. You can find the Terminal app in Applications > Utilities on your Mac. Or you can search for "Terminal" on Spotlight.

After quitting Safari on your Mac, open Terminal and enter the following line of text:

defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeInternalDebugMenu 1

Press return, then open Safari. If it worked, you should see a new "Debug" item in the menu bar at the top of your Mac's screen.

With the previously-hidden menu now present, click on Debug . Then click Sync iCloud History , which should appear at the bottom of the list. Your Mac will then take care of the rest, and you should see your history sync between devices within a minute or two.

To hide the Debug menu, open Terminal again and enter the following line of text:

defaults write com.apple.Safari IncludeInternalDebugMenu 0

You'll need to quit Safari before the change will take place.

How to erase single entries in safari's history list.

Normally, Safari on iPhone and iPad keeps track of which sites you visit in a special History list. While it's possible to completely wipe your history in Settings , you can also erase only more recent history if you'd like. Here's how.

First, open Safari on your iPhone or iPad. Tap the "Bookmarks" button (which looks like an open book). On the iPad, you'll find it in the upper-left corner of the screen beside the address bar. On an iPhone, it's at the bottom of the screen.

In the pop-up that appears (on the left side of the screen on iPad and over the whole screen on iPhone), tap the History tab (which looks like a clock face), and then tap the "Clear" button.

(Don't worry. It won't clear anything yet.)

After you tap "Clear," another pop-up will give you yet another choice. You can select "All time," "Today and yesterday," "Today," or "The last hour."

Choosing one of these options will remove your browsing history, cookies, and other browsing data from the point you select until now. For example, if you click "Today," all the browsing history from sites you visited today will disappear, but everything earlier than that will remain on the list.

Tap the option you'd prefer (or you can tap outside the pop-up box to cancel).

If you made a selection from the pop-up list, your browsing history will be cleared accordingly. It's all very quick and handy.

Oh, and one more thing before you go: In Safari's History list, you can also delete individual entries by swiping to the left on them with your finger. When a red "Delete" button appears on the right, tap it.

Using this method, only the single entry you just swiped will be zapped. This can be a nice, laser-focused way of erasing certain history items without having to clear everything at once. Happy browsing!

Things You Should Know

• To clear your Safari browsing history, go to Settings > Safari > Clear History and Web Data.
• To clear your call history, open the Recents area of the Phone app, tap Edit, and then tap Clear.
• Use the Google app to delete your search history.

• In the future, you can use Safari's Private Browsing mode to visit websites without saving them to your history.

• If this button is grayed-out, there's either no history saved, or the option is restricted in Screen Time . You can reenable Clear History and Website Data in Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions Web Content by disabling all website restrictions.

• Your AutoFill information (e.g., contact info and saved credit cards) will not be deleted.
• Alternatively, you can delete the cookies without clearing your history. Navigate to Settings > Safari > Advanced > Website Data . Select Remove All Website Data .

• If you don't want Chrome to add the websites you visit to your history, you can browse privately in incognito mode .

• Note that this will delete the Google Chrome browsing data for any synced devices as well.

• In addition to clearing your entire call history, you can also delete individual received or sent phone calls from your call log.

• If you just want to delete a single entry instead of clearing your entire call log, tap the red minus sign next to the call you want to clear.

• If you're signed in to another device, such as an iPad or Mac, using the same Apple ID, your iMessage history will be cleared from that device as well.

• Open the Settings app.
• Select Messages .
• Tap Keep Messages .
• Select how long you want to store messages for. This will automatically delete messages that are older than the new setting.

• For example, if you use iCloud to sync your iMessages (the default option), those messages will reappear on your iPhone after you sign back in with your Apple ID after erasing your phone.

How to back up your iPhone or iPad with iCloud

If you have a lot of pictures, messages, and files that you don't want to lose, backing up your devices is crucial. For iPhones , this process is very simple. There are two ways of going about it: you can either create a full backup on your computer or just use the iCloud backup feature. Using your PC and Mac to back up iPhone data is a longer process, so we'll be concerning ourselves with the iCloud approach.

Apple also recommends the iCloud method, as it syncs your photos, notes, and other compatible files across most of your Apple devices. This includes your iPhone, iPad, and even your Mac. In case any of these devices get lost, stolen, or damaged, an iCloud backup is the easiest way to recover most of your data.

Apple gives its users 5GB of iCloud storage for free, but that isn’t even a drop in the bucket compared to how much data you will back up over time. If you want iCloud to keep creating these automatic backups, you might need a subscription to iCloud+.

After you follow one of the three methods below, your imported passwords will upload to iCloud Keychain and sync to all your Apple devices, including iPhone and iPad.

Method 1: On a new computer

When you open Safari for the first time on your Mac after using Chrome or Firefox, you will see an option to import bookmarks , browsing history, and passwords. Just use the button there, and you should be good to go.

Method 2: Import manually at any time

If you did not import passwords when you opened Safari for the first time, you can follow these simple steps to get your Chrome passwords in Safari.

1) Quit the Chrome browser if it’s already open.

2) Open Safari on your Mac, and from the top menu bar, click  File  >  Import From and choose  Google Chrome .

3) Make sure the Passwords box stays selected and hit the Import  button.

5) Enter your Mac’s password and Allow Safari to use your confidential information stored in “Chrome Safe Storage.” You may have to enter your Mac’s password a second time and hit Allow again. After that, Safari will begin importing your passwords from Chrome.

6) Once importing is done, click OK .

After you have imported the account password from another browser to Safari, go to  Safari Settings  >  Passwords (or System Settings > Passwords ), and you will find the imported passwords here. Unfortunately, there isn’t a recently added section to help you know the passwords that were copied from another browser. But you can manually check and find that the account emails, usernames, and passwords were actually imported over.

Note that your account login details and passwords were copied to Safari and not moved from Chrome to Safari. So, you will still find them when you open Google Password Manager in Chrome or the web.

Method 3: Use a CSV file

Another method to get your Chrome passwords to Safari involves exporting your Chrome passwords as a CSV file and then importing that file into Safari.

This is easy but also comes with significant security concerns. Your usernames, emails, and passwords are mentioned in plain readable text in the CSV file that you download from Google Password Manager. If you are not incredibly careful, this file may get into the wrong hands, get uploaded to cloud services, and be misused. Therefore, you should use the earlier method.

But if you understand the risks and will properly delete the CSV file immediately after importing it to Safari, here’s how to proceed.

1) Open Chrome on your Mac and export its passwords as a CSV file. To do that, visit this direct Chrome link ( chrome://password-manager/settings ) or navigate to Chrome Settings  >  Autofill and passwords > Google Password Manager > Settings .

Now, click the Download file button next to the Export passwords option, use Touch ID or your Mac’s password to authenticate, and Save the CSV file.

2) Open Safari, and from the top menu bar, click  File  >  Import From  >  Passwords CSV File .

3) Click  Choose File .

4) Now, select the Chrome Passwords CSV file you downloaded earlier and hit Import . After that, use Touch ID or your Mac’s password to authenticate.

5) Once the passwords are imported, you will see an alert. Click OK  or  Open Passwords Settings .

View your Safari tabs from another Apple device on iPhone
