15 Best GUIMARAS TOURIST SPOTS (Islands, Beaches & Heritage)

 alt=

Guimaras is one of my favorite places to relax and unwind. I had a chance to travel to this province during a tumultuous time in my life when I just wanted to be away from the bustle of the city. Its rich nature helped me to be calm and cope with everything I’ve gone through. I truly recommend that you also visit this island.

Tucked in between the beautiful provinces of Bacolod and Iloilo is an absolutely stunning hidden paradise called Guimaras Island. Above anything else, Guimaras is known and famous for producing some of the sweetest mangoes in the world and hence dubbed the “ Mango Capital of the Philippines ”.

Guimaras Mangoes are the country’s best export quality mangoes and we take pride in helping to preserve and promote its unparalleled taste to the whole world. But aside from the heavenly sweet mangoes of Guimaras, the island also boasts some of the most beautiful tourist attractions that every traveler shouldn’t miss! From breathtaking islands, white-sand beaches, and awe-inspiring rock formations, I’m sure that the adventurer within you will absolutely have a great time. Oh, and also add the amazing cultural and historical landmarks of Guimaras Island to your itinerary because they too are definitely worth visiting.

So, what are you waiting for? Pack your things, prepare your bags, and buckle up because you’re going on another unforgettable adventure with me as we both explore the 15 Best Tourist Spots in Guimaras!

1. Taklong Island National Marine Reserve

The first one on the list is none other than Taklong Island National Marine Reserve or TINMAR, which is one of the most important marine protected areas in the Philippines .

You can experience this marine reserve through island hopping offered by resorts around Nueva Valencia. In my case, I did island hopping when I visited Nature’s Eye Resort.

Nature's Eye Resort Guimaras

This marine reserve is composed of two (2) major islands and 37 smaller islets. Here, you will surely have a great time exploring the white sand beaches, sandbars, hidden coves, and stunning rock formations scattered all around the island. You can also witness the abundance of flora and fauna within TINMAR, so make sure to breathe in all the fresh air you can get! Oh, and there’s also a lighthouse located on top of one of the hills on the island, so after spending the day touring around TINMAR, make sure to drop by this lighthouse to watch the mesmerizing view of the sunset!

The University of the Philippines is primarily maintaining Taklong Island National Marine Reserve – Visayas (UPV), they have available dorm-type rooms for those who wish to spend the night.

2. Nature’s Eye Beach Resort

Up next, Nature’s Eye Beach Resort will undoubtedly be one of the most memorable highlights of your Guimaras trip because you will really feel like you’re at the center of paradise. This beach resort is located at Nueva Valencia , allowing guests to conveniently access many of the beautiful tourist spots of Guimaras Island. Aside from the exclusive breathtaking views that you can enjoy during your stay here at Nature’s Eye Beach Resort, you will also love all the wonderful facilities and amenities of the resort!

Nature's Eye Resort Guimaras

As part of your stay, have exclusive access to the private beach with creamy white sands, turquoise waters, and beautiful rock formations. Oh, and make sure to try some of the cool and exciting activities such as swimming, snorkeling, island hopping, and more! CHECK ROOM RATES HERE

I had a great time in this resort when I visited Guimaras last year. Some of the rooms are specially designed with terraces and balconies overlooking the majestic view of the ocean. Of course, Nature’s Eye Beach Resort guarantees that you will have a memorable vacation with the highest degree of comfort and convenience within your reach. Finally, be sure not to miss out on the seafood. Yum!

3. Alubihod Beach

Up next, one of the most charming tourist spots you shouldn’t miss in Guimaras is Alubihod Beach. This one’s perfect for everyone who simply wants to enjoy the peace and serenity of a tropical paradise. The powdery creamy white sand of Alubihod Beach along with the turquoise blue ocean waters and beautiful rock formations surely is a sight you shouldn’t miss!

Alubihod beach

Take a sip of your favorite drink as you catch up with friends in one of the Nipa Huts along the beach! Oh, and Alubihod Beach is also known for fun recreational activities such as beach volleyball, frisbee, snorkeling, and more. It’s also a popular jump-off point for exciting island hopping activities to nearby islands like Baras Beach, Turtle Island, Ave Maria Island, Tatlong Pulo, and more!

4. Ave Maria Island

Ah, since we’re already at Alubihod Beach, we’ll now be heading to Ave Maria Island which can already be seen from the beach itself! It’s a relatively small island with a powdery white sand beach where you can freely soak in the surrounding crystal clear waters!

Ave Maria Island

You can also try and snorkel around the area to see lots of colorful marine animals during your stay. But if you prefer to simply relax, feel the heat of the sun, and work on your tan, then Ave Maria Island is definitely the perfect spot for you! Oh, and there are no cottages or lodging facilities available within the island since it’s only usually included in island hopping tour packages, so I suggest that you maximize your time around this island.

5. Tatlong Pulo Beach

Right after Ave Maria Island, we’ll now jump off to one of Guimaras Island’s iconic attractions! Tatlong Pulo Beach is named after the three (3) majestic limestone karst formations facing the white-sand beach. Even though it is very popular among tourists, Tatlong Pulo is still considered a hidden paradise because it is away from all the noise and bustle of the city.

Tatlong Pulo Beach

Here, you can have your much-needed vacation as you enjoy the breeze of the tropical trees and the rustling ocean waves all to yourself. Tatlong Pulo Beach is absolutely elegant so if you’re looking for the perfect Instagram-worthy spot in Guimaras, this is definitely the one!

6. Guisi Lighthouse

And there it is! Your trip to Guimaras wouldn’t be complete if you were not able to visit the iconic Guisi Lighthouse. This 18th Century Spanish Colonial Lighthouse considered the 2nd oldest lighthouse in the Philippines, is one of the most significant historical landmarks in Guimaras as it guided mariners to safely pass through the Iloilo-Guimaras Strait for centuries.

Guisi Lighthouse

If you really want to take your adventure to the next level, I suggest that you take on the challenge of overcoming the 15-minute uphill trek to reach the top of Guisi Lighthouse! Trust me, your efforts will all be worth it once you see the breathtaking view of the whole beachscape and the Iloilo-Guimaras Strait with your own eyes. Oh, and exploring the ruins of the Guisi Lighthouse is surely another worthy experience you won’t regret, so don’t miss out!

7. Tando Beach

Next up, if you’re a fan of exploring hidden pristine islands and beaches, then Tando Beach is definitely perfect for you. It’s situated in Nueva Valencia, away from all the buzz and noise of the city. And since Tando Beach is relatively underdeveloped, there are still not a lot of tourists who discovered this mesmerizing paradise.

Tando Beach

So if you’re one of the lucky ones who managed to stumble upon Tando Beach, you’ll get to enjoy its raw and natural beauty by yourself! Imagine sipping your favorite cocktail while chilling at a hammock, feeling the cool breeze of the ocean waves, and enjoying the view of the beautiful rock formations, creamy white sands, and emerald green waters. Ah, what a life!

8. Guisi Beach

Walking along the shores of Guisi Beach alone is already an amazing experience when you visit the famous Guisi Lighthouse because you can witness the beauty of the golden creamy sands and the emerald green waters of the beach.

Guisi Beach

Of course, you can also try some of the fun and exciting activities here in Guisi Beach such as snorkeling, beach bumming, swimming, and more. Oh, and be sure not to miss out on taking pictures with the famous Guisi Rock Formations that can be found at both ends of the beach! These are absolutely one of the most eye-catching natural attractions that are worth seeing.

9. San Lorenzo Windmills (Guimaras Windmills)

Another must-visit tourist destination in Guimaras is the famous San Lorenzo Windmills or more popularly known as the Guimaras Windmills. The amazing thing about this wind farm is that it’s able to help boost both Guimaras Island’s tourism and economy, being able to produce approximately 54 megawatts of renewable energy.

San Lorenzo Windmills

It stretches for as long as 14 kilometers and has a total of 27 turbines each standing at about 404 feet tall. Indeed, what a breathtaking sight it really is to see all these majestic wind turbines along with the scenic landscape of Guimaras. Oh, and just a quick tip, watch the mesmerizing view of the sunset here at the San Lorenzo Wind Farm to take awesome and unforgettable photos!

10. Trappist Monastery & Pasalubong Center

The Trappist Monastery is one of the best spots in Guimaras to buy pasalubong and some delicious treats to bring home. It is managed by the monks of the Cistercian Order of the Strict Observance. They are known to follow the laws and teachings of St. Benedict and are famous for their extreme discipline and austerity.

The monastery is located in Barangay San Miguel, Jordan , which is very accessible through different types of transportation. Tourists can freely explore the monastery grounds and even talk to the monks and nuns living there, some even visit the Trappist Monastery to ask them for wise thoughts and advice. To earn a living, the monks are selling Visayas delicacies such as piaya, jellies, jams, candies, and other sweets. So be sure to drop by when you’re around!

11. Malingin Island

Next on our list is another small yet beautiful island located in Nueva Valencia. Malingin Island is also one of the undeveloped island destinations in Guimaras so you’ll definitely get to see it in its raw and pristine state. The white-sand beach, the rugged rock formations, and the abundant trees on the island are very refreshing sights to enjoy.

During your island hopping activities, you can stop by this island for a quick while and have a nice time walking along the shores, swimming, beach bumming, and even snorkeling. It’s also a wonderful and romantic spot to watch the sunset, so be sure to check it out!

12. Navalas Church

Ah, after visiting many of Guimaras Island’s top tourist destinations, one place we should never miss out on is the famous Navalas Church. It is the most significant religious landmark in Guimaras, being the oldest heritage church on the island. It was built in 1880 and has been the center of religion in Buenavista, Guimaras, ever since the Spanish Colonial Period.

Navalas Church

Exploring this magnificent historical building will really bring you back to the old times and I’m sure that you can’t help but be fascinated by its beauty. The Navalas Church is built of stones and has a beautiful garden where you can freely walk around and explore. Taking a picture here would be a great souvenir idea so make sure to take some!

13. Unisan Island

Located right beside Malingin Island is another natural wonder worth visiting, and that’s the one and only Unisan Island. Characterized by its stunning beachscape with white sands, crystal clear waters, and beautiful rock formations, I’m sure that you’ll have a great time relaxing and enjoying nature in this wonder.

Just like Malingin Island, this one’s also undeveloped so expect that there won’t be any lodging facilities or establishments around, just pure nature. It is indeed a perfect place to simply sit back, relax, and enjoy the astounding view of paradise!

14. Balaan Bukid

Another important religious destination in Guimaras is the Balaan Bukid of Jordan. This is a famous pilgrimage site for Roman Catholic Filipinos during the Holy Week season, especially for everyone who’s fulfilling the tradition of Visita Iglesia. Balaan Bukid can be easily reached by boat, but to reach the top, you first have to hike for about 45 minutes.

Balaan Bukid

Photo by Guimarasnon Around the World

On the way to the top, the pilgrims will encounter the 14 Ways of the Cross which depicts the important events in the life of Jesus Christ. Eventually, you will reach the top where the Chapel of Ave Maria Purisima can be found. It’s a great place to offer prayers and reflections simply because of the peace and tranquility of the place, as well as the stunning scenery on top. So for everyone who would like to cure their souls and at the same time have an amazing adventure, this is the perfect place to visit!

15. Fairy Castle Rock Formation

Finally, our last destination for our Guimaras Island adventure is known as the Fairy Castle Rock Formation. I know, that’s quite an interesting name, isn’t it? Well, it’s because this rock formation islet looks like a fairy’s fantasy castle! It’s a nice addition to island hopping activities especially because this is truly an Instagram-worthy attraction. So aside from having a great time enjoying the crystalline waters, white sands, and beautiful rock formations, make sure to also take lots and lots of pictures!

Navalas Church is the oldest Roman Catholic Church in Guimaras. Travel time atleast 5 hours with 20 college students. I choose this destination because Behavior is vital in humans, especially inside the church, but also in all that goes on.1st behavioural problem Disruptive conduct When a kid constantly shows off, upsets the teacher and other students, and otherwise disrupts the classroom, that student is typically asking for unwarranted attention. The student’s self-esteem may be low, therefore he needs attention and special treatment to make himself feel important.I dealed it as a teacher by Involve the student in problem-solving activities. How do you make the kid feel seen and heard without causing a disruption in mass? The goal is to devise techniques to deal with the student’s bad conduct that do not need continual mass interruptions.2nd Helpless and withdrawn behavior Any instructor has a difficult challenge when a pupil seems weak and unable (or unwilling) to execute even the most basic duties. This youngster feels so inferior and inept that she wishes to discourage the instructor from expecting anything from her. She cannot fail if there are no expectations. Handle it by While the learner is watching, the teacher performs the proper behaviour first. JONALYN DEGABI 3F3

Classrooms usually contain 43 individual students. As a teacher, I want them to witness the antique beauty of the Navalas Church in Guimaras. But, there are 3 common behavioral problems that I must consider that cannot be avoided during a field trip. Some of these are noise, not paying attention, and inappropriate manners. To deal with these situations, a teacher must be patient when encountering this kind of student. As a teacher, to start planning a field trip, make some sort of plan or set of rules by providing guidance on what might happen before going to Navalas Church. Encourage every student, give them some sort of advice, and scold them in a good way when things are not right, because every action can lead to destruction.

Behavior is vital in humans, especially inside the church, but also in all that goes on. This is the location I chose with 20 students because I believe it will be beneficial to us.I also understand that everyone has a hidden problem that can only be revealed via prayer. Going to church will not immediately solve the situation, but it will alleviate the animosity. because I am aware that many of my pupils are struggling with financial and familial issues. There is nothing wrong with going to church on a rare occasion since you know you have a decent heart and no one is treading on anyone. This vacation was chosen because I believe the children will learn more from the priests and see good practices in their surroundings.I admit that I am not religious, but going to church is not a terrible thing, and at a distant location, this is my destination with my pupils.

Behavior problem that I may encounter is the no manners, no respect others/ property, and absentminded student. To deal with this behavior ill make sure that all of my student aware that were not in are country to act casually so we have to mind our manners and bahave. And I’ll suggest that wear a t shirt that there’s a school name printed. Andrea Isabelle C. Palma BSIT 3F3

If I am a teacher I would definitely bring my students in guimaras because there’s a lot of beautiful places in there and also I wanted them to try the guimaras mangoes and other delicacies in guimaras , I wanted to show them the churches and also the museum , while having a field trip it is my responsibility as a teacher to take good care of my students and most problem in a field trip is some student get separated and some are being curious and accidentally break things , and to prevent that from happening I am going to do headcounts every hour to know if someone is missing and also to tell my students to be extra careful.

The Guisi Lighthouse is the one that we chose from the article that we would take our Grade 6 six students for a field trip. A total of 20 students are participating. Estimated travel time would be at least 5 hours. We have observed at least 3 behavioral problems. The first one is being too much dependent or needy of their parents. These children might be excited to be on their long hour fieldtrip but after a while they would start missing their parents, others might have panic attacks. The best way to resolve this is to initiate fun games and songs throughout the trip or if they are refusal in calming down we would give them candy or snacks if they would stop having tantrums. Another behavioral problem we observed is the refusal to cooperate. Some kids have these problems simply because most of them are shy especially in large groups, others have limited knowledge or intimidated by similar peers or authorities like teachers. We would resolve this problem by empathizing with the children, put yourself on their point of view that way we could know how to solve or approach them without initiating negative reinforcement. Positive reinforcement could also help them to cooperate. For example praising or cheering to encourage them to participate then patting their backs to backs to show them positive response. Last but not the least is the fear of heights. There’s no denying that children have fear of heights. Our best solution is to go by batches since there are two teachers we would alternate in guiding the children going up the lighthouse the other one maintaining the students down the lighthouse and so on. We would lead them by group of five holding each other’s hands forming a straight line carefully climbing the lighthouse then the same way on going down and so on. As a teacher I gathered 15 of my high school students to have field trips . We decide to have our field trips in Holy family hills in Guimaras. It was a perfect place for student activities and engaging programs. It was huge area to be held for their outside activity that will help them to improve their skills of every student that are participate not just in just school but outside of the campus. I choose holy family hills because it is a religious site that possible the students will be responsible in knowing the do’s and don’ts in the whole field trip. It was good spot that will give energy to the students because of the ambiance and the view they will surely enjoy and take away their stress during the trip. The 3 behavioral problems that we encounter in our field trip are first the students not following the rules some students are not responsible for their belongings and some students are not staying with their group. 2nd leaving without informing their teachers some students go to other places and leave without informing the teacher and the 3rd one is misbehaving some students is shouting out, laughing and talking and not paying attention while giving the instructions. As their teachers we are responsible to watch over the students because if something happens to one of them, their parents will blame us. We deal it by telling them the things that we need in field trip and we will explain to them what they should do and what they should not do and explain all the rules if they don’t follow the rules they will have a consequence that will be done when we go back to school. As a teacher we are very responsible for everything to be successful our outside activity this activity is our biggest role and to make sure their field trip is safe and successful and make sure they enjoy themselves s and learn a lot. Destination: Holy Family Hills Students might mishandle their gadgets, do idle talk often (irrelevant conversations which can be disturbing), and procrastinate (attitude of postponing essential tasks).

How will we deal with these: 1. Students must be divided into teams and each team must have a leader. Each member has to surrender their gadgets to their leader and the leader will do the same. The leader will keep the gadgets or pass it to the teacher and return it to them if necessary or during their free time. 2-3. Because they are into teams, the most behaved and obedient teams will be given recognition and reward. The noisiest and undisciplined team will receive a penalty and deduction of points. As their teacher also, they will be given a due or particular time in doing their personal tasks, and later be given an activity that will help them reflect. This way, they will be challenged and encouraged to participate and follow the rules.

I want to take my students for a field trip to NAVALAS CHURCH. This is the first destination in Guimaras that I want my students to go to. During school field trips reprimands are inevitable, not listening to the speaker in the middle, talking to the neighbor and not avoiding sacred things. So while on a trip, I would confront my students by telling them not to be critical and to be respectful to the people they interact with. Listen to the speaker in front and do not talk to the person next to them. The place we are going to is sacred and should be respected. We should be pleasant, good leader, respectful, kind and good mannered and never show rudeness to other people.

If I would imagine myself as a teacher, and I’ll be having a field trip with my students, I choose San Lorenzo Wind Farm in Guimaras as our destination to relax, enjoy and have fun. Considering that we’ll spend our time together, these are the possible behavioral problems that I will be encountering during the trip. Some of these measures are: The first problem is the absence of organization and discipline, particularly when it comes to eating, is the first issue. Some kids skip meals altogether and only eat in the vehicle. To deal with this behavioral problem, educate and make them understand the rules and regulations that they should follow while visiting other places so that they will be able to learn something new and interesting. The second issue is the conduct of some pupils, who act inappropriately among instructors and their peers. They could struggle to interact with others appropriately or comprehend what they are expected to perform on a field trip with this behavioral problem, make sure that they know how to behave properly in order for them to gain respect from the people around them and thus avoid getting into trouble with them. The third problem is that some students get bored easily due to a lack of activities or because they can’t find anything interesting for themselves in their surroundings. To deal with this behavioral problem, make them appreciate the surroundings even though they are not used to visiting those places. Sometimes, destinations that don’t have those extravagant activities, can be your most memorable travel experience.

We would choose the Navalas Church. Except from being historical, We want our students to experience something magic by touring them inside and learning the background of the church and by also listening to the Father’s homily and praying. 1. The patience of the student – because of the distance, most of the students probably lost their patience. To deal with it I’ve prepare a historical story about Navalas Church for them to have a knowledge and historical background to use maybe in the near future. 2. Noisy students – Having a noisy students is not new to all teachers especially here in the Philippines. And for us to avoid that kind of behavior, We will make a rules when touring around the church. just like we would make the noisy students pray the “Our Father” 20 times since we are in the Navalas Church also for them to realize that being playful is not okay especially in places like churches. 3. Inappropriate usage of gadgets – We all know that most of the students have their own gadgets. If the students won’t participate or cooperate in our trip and only focusing to their phones, we would confiscate their gadgets for them to realize that we came to that place to learn the history of the Navalas Church not to use the gadgets inappropriately but we will return it to them after our field trip.

Holy family hills.

3 behavioral

Impatient, Side conversation And Pushy students. I will deal with it by talking to them to keep quiet and listen to their teacher. As a teacher I will still positive and use kind words and I will tell them to move in the right direction. And I will be the one to encourage them on how to be calm and quiet voice can do to help my students.

If I were a teacher I will pick the San Lorenzo wind farm. It is located up hill so the wind is strong and fresh and you can see a nice view above there

Behavioral problems that may encounter 1. Unpleasant sound or noise – I can deal with it by telling them that if any one can be quiet till we came in the destination the drinks for lunch is my treat. 2. Disobedience- to deal with this situation I think a mind game can be helpful play a game then tell then a short story about the place where you going. 3. Motion sickness – while traveling motion sickness is always there as far as I know if I will be in charge I will change the sits of the sick student and make him/her sit in the front of the car open the window for fresh air and I will tell the driver to stop every hour to let the students rest outside and also to breathe fresh air.

As teachers will bring 10 students to the Holy Family Hills on Guimaras Island. This place is religious it is good for a retreat because in this place our students will be familiar to the different statues of Saints. While we were in a retreat or a field trip we can’t avoid some behavioral problems from our students. Some of this are being noisy, uncooperative, and clumsy. Having a noisy, uncooperative, and clumsy student a teacher should make a rules before going inside of a religious place. Before starting the tour we must explain the DO’S and DON’T to our students. We must keep an eye to students who says noisy, uncooperative and clumsy. As a teacher we are responsible for the safety of our students, and as a selected student on a field trip they represent the name of the school.

' src=

If I was going to decide, I would take my 12 students at the Navalas church in Guimaras island. Traveling especially with your students, it is hard to avoid behavioral problems. It is inevitable that one of my student went missing for sometimes he/she are distracted watching the view, but I’Il be dealing that by grouping them with three members per group so that when I’m not around they can look dor each other. Now we all know that traveling at some places can get us hungry most of the time, my students usually forgetting to bring food especially if no one is reminding then to bring food. As their teacher, it is my responsiblity to remind them of all the things that they need to bring in the field trip. Mostly in field trip, students may find it boring especially that students doesn’t really have an interest in church thing, what I’ll will going to do is to entertain my students and giving them a little trivia about the navalas church, so that at some point the students will be interested and learned a quick history at the same time.

Guimaras tourist spots to discover its natural wonders

1. wade on tatlong pulo beach’s crystal waters.

Tatlong Pulo

Being an island province, Guimaras is bound to have gorgeous beaches as far as the eye can see. Tatlong Pulo is named after three islets that face the main beach. It sits only a few minutes away from Jordan Wharf .

While the beach lies only a few minutes away, it can be tricky to travel by road. The roads are steep and undeveloped, which can be troublesome for local public transportation. Good thing that Tatlong Pulo is a beach and that you start off your journey in a port. Water ferries are readily available to take you to this beautiful beach at only half the time while crossing the sea.

Tatlong Pulo is as secluded as it can be. Chances are that you will find a handful of people hanging out on the beach, maybe even less. The lack of electricity and accommodations could be a factor, but for a select few, this is the perfect refuge.

2. Visit the National Mango Research and Development Center to learn about the sweet fruit

National Mango Research and Development Center

You’ll see a lot of mentions of mango as you read on, and for good reason. Guimaras is home to the most delicious mangoes in the world. Some locals believe that their sweetness comes from the sea breeze; others owe it to the island’s rich soil. But one thing is for certain: Even after leaving Guimaras, your memory of their mangoes will stay in mind for a while.

In an attempt to improve this hometown favourite, the Bureau of Plant Industry came up with the National Mango Research and Development Center (NMRDC). It is almost nine hectares filled with buildings, nurseries, and a man-made lake for irrigation. These developments are specialised in keeping Guimaras mangoes consistently tasty. They also make sure to protect these mangoes from infestations, as pests have become a problem for some farms around the island province.

As visiting the NMRDC inspires many tourists to nurture their own mango trees, the research centre also sells scions and grafted mango seeds here.

3. Learn about marine wildlife in SEAFDEC’s Igang Marine Station

SEAFDEC IMS

If you’re tired of making YouTube your virtual aquarium, maybe this Guimaras tourist spot will reinvigorate your fascination. Igang Marine Station is integral to the studies that the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center (SEAFDEC) conducts. This facility contains multiple species of fish for broodstock, which then serve as specimens for research. They have proper habitats and communities inside the facility to ensure that they are always healthy.

It may sound boring, but the wildlife is a joy to observe, especially when it’s up close. Fish frolicking inside their pens, sea clams chilling on their reefs — all of these are expounded on by scientists who man the facility. You’ll learn a lot about how these animals co-exist, and how important they are in keeping our ecosystem thriving.

While you’re there, don’t forget to acquaint yourself with Mike, a grouper the size of a small car!

4. Get to know about marine biodiversity in Taklong Island National Marine Reserve

Taklong Island National Marine Reserve

If Igang Marine Station encourages you to learn more about marine life in Guimaras, you can also check out Taklong Island National Marine Reserve (TINMAR). It consists of two main islands and 37 other islets. One of the main islands hosts a marine biological station run by the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV). Guests can stay at the facility overnight but should secure a permit from UPV Miagao Campus ’ administration office.

Here, you will find a beach, as well as diving spots that let you observe fish swimming around reefs. A floating cottage can also be accessed for some relaxation and easy access for a swim. If you prefer to stay dry, you can stay at the lighthouse erected on a cliff nearby to get a great vantage point of the island.

5. Relax on the calm waters of Guisi Beach and climb Guisi Lighthouse

Guisi Lighthouse

One of the more crucial parts of a sea route from the Spanish colonial period also happens to be a beautiful beach. Securely situated in a natural enclave, Guisi Beach is a great spot for a carefree time with sun, sand, and sea. The enclave protects the beach from strong currents and winds, so it has no excuse to not look pretty.

Good for Guisi Beach, then, because not only is it beautiful, but it’s also a standout. It boasts a rugged coastline, extraordinary rock formations, and shimmering jade-coloured waters. You’ll get a gist of its beauty once you take a 15-minute hike to Guisi Lighthouse . This structure was built during the 18th century and is the second oldest lighthouse in the Philippines. This lighthouse is a great vantage point to take in the sights of Guisi Beach.

6. visit a dream house in roca encantada.

Roca Encantanda

It must be nice to have a seaside mansion. That’s just what the Lopez clan built for their matriarch, Doña Presentacion Hofilena Lopez, way back in 1910. The heritage house atop Roca Encantada is a house that anyone would spend a day in, if not the entirety of their retirement.

While many consider it a heritage house, this mansion looks modern, possibly because of renovations. Its balcony offers a sweeping view of the sea and surrounding islets. A nice beach is also nearby and is open for strolling.

7. Meditate and shop for souvenirs in the Trappist Monastery

Trappist Monastery

As if Guimaras tourist spots can’t get any more peaceful, the Trappist Monastery is a beautiful place to reflect. It is run by monks and nuns of the Cistercian Order of the Strict Observance. But, don’t let the name intimidate you! They are all very friendly and will even give you advice if you ask them.

There are prayer areas all over the monastery which you can take advantage of for spiritual nourishment. But for nourishment that comes from food, the monastery runs a souvenir shop and its earnings fund their daily needs. Can you guess what they sell here?

That’s right: These monks and nuns not only sell preserved goods from Guimaras mangoes, but they also produce them. They have mango trees that grow on monastery grounds. Its fruit is preserved and then sold as candies, jams, and jellies. If you’re lucky, you might see a bottle of mango ketchup available! It’s really good with fried and roasted food.

8. Taste some delicious pizza at The Pitstop

The Pitstop Pizza

Bought some Guimaras mangoes to take home? Maybe you’re looking for a recipe to incorporate these lovely fruits. The Pitstop really stretches the Guimaras mango to the limit by making the fruit shine in every dish.

You will fall in love with the Mango Beef Bulalo, especially when every bite of tender beef has hints of sweet mango. The Pitstop also has an alternative answer to the age-old question: Does pineapple go with pizza? Pizza purists will either find enlightenment or be left speechless over the sweet, rich, and tangy flavours of The Pitstop’s famous mango pizza.

GUIMARAS TRAVEL GUIDE | Itinerary + Budget + Map [UPDATED 2022]

Guimaras Travel Guide Blog Itinerary Map

Guimaras is an island province located in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines. It is sandwiched by the province of Iloilo and Negros Occidental. The island is known for its fine, white sand beaches and its sweet mangoes—which is renowned worldwide. Tourist and backpackers flock the island especially during summer for its crystalline waters and a few historical sites. Most travelers usually consider Guimaras as a day-tour destination forming the usual side-trip from Iloilo City, but with this travel guide, I’ll let you in on a little secret, the province has a lot more to offer more than its usual tourist spots and frequented beaches. Check out the 2-day and 3-day itineraries I’ve prepared for those wanting a more intensive Guimaras tour.

HOW TO GET TO GUIMARAS

There are two ways to reach the island of Guimaras. The popular route is through its western side, via Iloilo City. From the Ortiz dock, pump boats and ferries ply the Iloilo Strait regularly to Jordan Port in Guimaras. The second route is via the towns of Palupandan and Valladolid in Negros Occidental. There are daily ferries that cross the Guimaras Strait to the wharfs in San Lorenzo. Note that you would need to get a ride, most probably through a habal-habal , to the town of Jordan before you can avail of tours.

Iloilo To Guimaras By Ferry

GETTING AROUND GUIMARAS

Getting Around Guimaras

Tricycles, jeepneys, multicabs, and single motorcycles—locally called habal-habal— are the main mode of transportation in Guimaras. Short distances can be covered by either tricycles or motorbikes, but for long distances, jeepneys are the way to go. Patience would be needed for jeepneys though, as it takes quite a while before they pass, and when they do, they’re usually full. If you’re the adventurous type, riding on the roof—topload-style—is an option you can consider.

GUIMARAS ORGANIZED / PACKAGED TOURS

Guimaras Organized Tours

It’s kinda hard to tour Guimaras DIY-style due to the lack of public transportation in the province. The best way to visit the usual tourist spots in Guimaras is by renting a motorbike, tricycle, or multicab along with a guide. These are easy to come by once you dock at Jordan Port as they would practically swarm over tourists as soon as they disembark from the port. Land tour tricycle rates (good for 3 to 4pax) usually start at ₱1,200.00 to ₱1,500.00 (depending on the places you wish to visit).   Recommended Tour Guide: Cherald Padojenog (0908) 474-8122 Book a Tour Online: Klook Guimaras Private Day Tour

WHERE TO STAY IN GUIMARAS

Most accommodations in Guimaras are situated near its coastal areas since the province has a lot of beautiful beaches. High-end resorts go side-by-side with backpacker-friendly ones so picking a place to stay that’s right for your budget wouldn’t be a problem. For visitors wanting a cheaper accommodation and wouldn’t mind being a bit far from the beach, one can go for the few inland lodgings in the province.

WHERE TO EAT IN GUIMARAS

Besides its mangos, Guimaras isn’t really known for culinary tradition. There’s the usual carinderias that serves local dishes like kansi , batchoy, and the usual Filipino fares but other than that, you won’t find any McDonald’s or fancy restaurants in the province. But that was before. In 2019, Jollibee opened its doors in Guimaras, more food places are now opening up.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO IN GUIMARAS

WHAT TO BUY IN GUIMARAS

Tourist and travelers won’t be disappointed in bringing home something after visiting Guimaras. There are not that many souvenir shops in the island but there are quite a few unique items and products you can bring home as pasalubong to your friends and family, besides baskets and baskets of mangos.

GUIMARAS SAMPLE ITINERARIES

Most tourists usually go to Guimaras for day tours, but the province has a lot more to offer besides the usual countryside tours outlined by guides at Jordan Port. I’ve been to Guimars a number of times and I’ve done the rushed day trip to almost spending a week just lounging around on a beach resort in the province. Below, I listed possible 1-day, 2-day, and 3-day tour itineraries that one can follow as time permits. Depending on your time and budget, you may even extend for a few more days and try the other places of interests in Guimaras like the Taklong Islands and the expensive Isla Naburot.

Hi, from dumaguete going to guimaras pwede ba magdala ng car?

Hi, I'm not sure if there are ferries going from Dumaguete to Guimaras, as far as I know, wala po

From Dumaguete , drive to bacolod. Take the roro to dumangas, iloilo. Drive to iloilo city and take ff cruz shipping --the only roro to guimaras. :)

That's very helpful for those wanting to bring their car to Guimaras! Thanks Cielo :)

Thanks lakad pilipinas for this post. It guided me on our guimaras trip.

No problem Cielo, hope you had a blast with your Guimaras tour!

how much is the estimated cost of the 3day tour?

How much is the esitmated cost for 3 day tour?

Hi Roy, the reason I really didn't put a budget in the itinerary and guide was due to the fact that tourists have different ways of travelling. So your budget would really depend where you're gonna be staying and where you would be eating out. :)

hi there! thank you for the very informative blog. I just want to ask is it possible to tour around (land tour) in the afternoon perhaps 3pm onwards? How much time needed for a land tour? And also how about the island tour? thank you so much in advance

You can definitely do the land tour, you'd just have to really rush it though, so no more beach time. For the Guimaras island hopping tour, that I'm not sure if it is possible

I'm also interested in the land tour 3pm onwards. Is this feasible? What time is the last boat from Guimaras back to Ilo-Ilo? Thanks!

The last boat from Guimaras to Iloilo is at 6:30 PM :)

Hi! If I'll be coming from the airport at 10AM, is it possible to squeeze an island tour and land tour all in one day? Thanks!

I think you'd have to choose between and island tour and a land tour.

This is rather helpful :)

Thank you Dyown! Enjoy Guimaras!

Hi! What attractions in Guimaras (near jordan wharf) would you recommend best for a one day tour? Thank u. :)

Hi, you can do visit almost all of the tourist spots in Guimaras for a one day tour

Is it possible to have the island tour in the morning and the land tour in the afternoon? I will be coming from Ortiz Wharf and am planning to get back in Iloilo City by 6PM. Thanks

It is a bit tight, but I think it can be done

Hi im coming from pulupandan going raymen guimaras...how to get there.

HI Muath, where exactly is Pulupandan?

I recently went to Guimaras last Holy Week 2016. It was amazing! The island was perfect and my guide was awesome. I wrote about my experience here: Guimaras Travel Guide for 2016 . That might help you when you visit the island. Salamat po! :)

Hi mgkano ang estimated budget sa iloilo tour with guimaras? Thanks

Hi Aster, haven't done an Iloilo Guide yet, but I will soon, including the budget for Guimaras

Hello! May I ask what software you are using to edit your photos? Thanks!

Hi Jep, I use Adobe Photoshop :)

Can you recommend a contact person for an island day tour? - Jayson

Yes, please read the tour guide section above :)

Thanks for this blog very informative. I already booked our 2 days and 1 night stay in Guimaras on December with my family. Ill be taking our car so we can maximize our land tour for two days. Wow! Good luck and have fun on your Guimaras adventure!

is there a place to stay po like day tour lang, rent ng cottage then pwede maligo for certain period of time lang po? since ang accommodation po namin is sa city proper ng Iloilo and we just want to go to guimaras for land tour and makaligo sa beach. tia.

Hi, you may stay for a few hours along the huts at Raymen Beach

Hi How much is the estimated budget for the itinerary?

Hi Hyacinth! Will update this with travel budget soon :)

Guimaras Island

10 Tourist Attractions in Guimaras Island

With a total area of 604.57 square kilometers only, Guimaras is considered as one of the smallest island-provinces in the 7,000 plus islands in the Philippines . It is located in the Western Visayas Region, just across Negros Island and very near to Panay Island, particularly to Iloilo. Apart from the main island of Guimaras, the province, which covers five municipalities, also has several smaller islands and islets within its political boundaries.

Upon the invitation of Nature’s Eye Resort, three of my fellow Negros Bloggers and I boarded a ferry to Iloilo and then took a 15-minute boat ride from the Parola Wharf of Iloilo City to the Jordan Wharf of Guimaras. (READ: First-time in Nature’s Resort on how to get there.)

Guimaras Island

The last time I was in Guimaras was when I was in fourth grade and we stayed in one of the smaller islands in the province. We only went to the main island to visit a friend of an aunt. But memories of how it looked like are now just a blur and the recent trip was a great way to help me rediscover the tiny island province just across the seas. All I know is that Guimaras is the land of the sweetest mangoes in the country but I was gearing to find out what else it has in store for us.

Our tricycle driver, Kim, met us at the Jordan Wharf and he toured us around Guimaras Island. For one full day, we traversed the highway and some narrow roads, spanning four out of five municipalities in the province. We went from Jordan to Buenavista to San Lorenzo to Jordan and then Nueva Valencia. Here are 10 tourist attractions in Guimaras that make for a great photo op backdrop for your travels.

1.) Jordan Municipal Hall

As soon as you arrive at the Jordan Wharf, you will see a marker of a mango to welcome you to Guimaras. Before you embark on your tour, register first at the Tourism Office right at the wharf. And as you leave the wharf, the first thing that will catch your eye are the giant J-O-R-D-A-N letters right in front of the Jordan Municipal Hall. Those bold letters couldn’t be missed and it’s a nice background for your first snapshots in the province. We didn’t linger much at the “munisipyo” and went directly to our next stop.

2.) Smallest Plaza

Did you know that the smallest plaza in the country, and for some time in the entire world, is found in Jordan, Guimaras? Right in the middle of the plaza is the statue of our National Hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. The plaza is enclosed and the statue is elevated in what seemed like a concrete center stage.

Guimaras Island

3.) Navalas Church

Heading to the town of Buenavista, we first made our way to the Saint Isidore Parish Church, or often called as the Navalas Church. It is an old church that dates back its origins in the late 19th century. With its construction between the years 1880 to 1885, it is the considered as the oldest edifice in the whole province. Since it is made of limestone, it was susceptible to harsh weather and degradation. Over time, it was reinforced with concrete and went through renovation, but sparing the façade from changes in order to maintain the original form of the church. Right at its entrance is the belfry of the church, separate from the main structure and serves as an entry way to the property.

Guimaras Island

4.) Roca Encantada

A heritage house of the Lopezes, Roca Encantada sits on a rock, with a spectacular view of the famed “Siete Pecados” islets from its balcony. An entrance fee of P50 per person is required to be able to access this private property. We climbed the steps to this modern-looking house and at the topmost step is engraved “Roca Encantada | 1910 | In Memory of Doña Presentacion Hofileña Lopez”.

Guimaras Island

5.) Windmills

Visible from Negros Island (and from the plane when you fly over Guimaras), these windmills are scattered in the part of Buenavista that is facing the sea. We went to a hill where we were able to go up close one of the windmills. The coast and the rest of the windmills were a breathtaking sight and we couldn’t help but have our photos taken with the giant turbines.

Windmills Guimaras Island

6.) Holy Family Hills

With life-size statues of religious icons depicting the different scenes in the Way of the Cross, the Holy Family Hills is a Catholic site that is popular among pilgrims especially during the Holy Week. Built in the year 2000 within the 52-hectare land, Holy Family Hills is run by the Eucharistic Disciples of St. Pius X. Apart from the Way of the Cross, also found inside the property is the Holy Family Shrine, a chapel, a garden and other attractions. Entrance is free but you can drop any amount as donation right at the gate.

7.) Guimaras Provincial Capitol

Guimaras only became a province in 1992. Its provincial capitol is already of modern architecture as compared to other provincial capitols in the Visayas area. Large GUIMARAS letters also stand in front of the capitol. Beside it is the museum with a monument of a local “manggagawa”, which represents fisher folks and farmers, on top of the building.

8.) Mango Plantation

After our sumptuous lunch filled with mango-inspired dishes at the Pitstop in Jordan proper, we went to the Department Of Agriculture-Bureau of Plant and Industry National Mango Research and Development Center or NMRDC to see the mango plantation. Guimaras is known for its sweet variety of mangoes that they are even served in palaces and presidential residences abroad. Take shelter under the wide canopy of mango trees for an Instagram-worthy photo.

9.) Trappist Abbey

The Our Lady of the Philippines Trappist Abbey is home of the Contemplative Trappist Catholic Christian Monks in the country. People come here to pray, reflect, meditate or take a spiritual retreat from the daily grind. But apart from the quiet surroundings, visitors also come here to bring home religious and food items in their gift shop. Most of the food products have a mango flavor that people want to try and taste.

Trappist Guimaras Island

10.) Guisi Lighthouse

Built in the 18th century as a Spanish parola, the ruins of the Guisi Lighthouse is a favorite spot for picture-taking. Perched on a cliff and overlooking the sea, the arches and plants growing on its walls provide an artistic character to the whole place. There’s a modern lighthouse built in the ruins but the old one, though rusty, still stand as testament of its role many years ago.

Guisi Guimaras Island

There are several other places to see in Guimaras — waterfalls, eco-parks, forests — but we couldn’t do them for one day. Apart from exploring Guimaras inland, its coast and surrounding islands shouldn’t be missed. I’ll be writing more about the Taklong Island National Marine Reserve (TINMR) in my next post.

If you want to tour Guimaras Island, you can hire our tricycle driver Kim Amata at +63 950 825 7904. If he is not available or if you are a big group and will need another tricycle, he can refer you to his friends and family members. Whole day rate for the tricycle, which can fit five people, is Php1,500 while a habal-habal or a single motorcycle, which can carry two people (apart from the driver), is at Php1,000*. Ferry from Parola Wharf, Iloilo City to Jordan Wharf, Guimaras amounts to Php14.00* per person (the same cost on the way back).

*Rates may be subject to change without prior notice.

2024 Ultimate Travel Guide to Guimaras Island

Table of Contents

W hen you think of sweet mangoes in the Philippines, most people recommend those from Guimaras Island. Just a boat ride from Iloilo, it was part of that province until 1992. It is among the smallest provinces in the country, but it makes up for its small size with sheer lush greenery and natural attractions. In this Guimaras Island Travel Guide, We will show you why this island is a perfect day tour destination from Iloilo. If you plan to experience most of the tourist attractions in Guimaras, we also listed the recommended island hopping and land-based tours available on the island.

Guimaras Island Travel Guide

It was formerly Himal-us, a derivation of the word “paghimud-us,” which means to struggle for survival. With its popularity as a destination for pleasure-seeking tourists and adventure seekers, it no longer has to struggle quite a lot. Here is a quick travel guide for those who want to visit the “Mango Capital of the Philippines.”

Mangoes galore in the Guimaras Manggahan Festival

Guimaras is an island in Western Visayas, surrounded by fascinating islets. This island is overflowing with natural attractions, inviting adventure seekers and pleasure travelers.

This island will truly satisfy its visitors. Guimaras has also been blessed with beautiful beaches with white sand. And, of course, when you say Guimaras, who can forget the mangoes? After all, their mangoes are one of the reasons that make this province known to almost everyone.

How to get there

There are no direct flights to Guimaras. The easiest way to get to Guimaras from Manila or anywhere else except for Bacolod or Negros Occidental is to fly to Iloilo on any daily flights offered by Cebu Pacific, AirAsia, or Philippine Airlines.

Iloilo to Guimaras Travel Guide

Iloilo is the best jump-off point because it is only a 15-minute ferry ride from Ortiz Wharf (to Jordan, the capital) or Parola Wharf (to Buena Vista).

Passenger Banca / Boat

  • Coming from Ortiz Wharf, you can hire an outrigger boat bound for Jordan Wharf in Barangay Rizal, Jordan.
  • From Parola Wharf, you can hire an outrigger boat bound for McArthur’s Wharf in Sto. Rosario, Buenavista. The standard fare is P50, and the discounted fare for students, minors, and Senior Citizens is P35. The travel time is about fifteen to twenty minutes.

Choose which one is nearer to your location.

  • You can ride a RORO if you have brought a car with you. You can ride a RORO from Lapaz, Iloilo City to Port San Jose, Barangay Hoskyn, Jordan.

Best Time to Visit Guimaras

They say the best time to visit the island is during the summer (April to June) to enjoy and indulge in the beaches better. This is the perfect time that you will be able to explore the island to your heart’s content.

What You Need To Wear and What You Should Bring

What you will have in your suitcase is important to consider when visiting this beautiful island. You should bring shorts, a set of nightwear, and T-shirts and don’t forget your swimsuit. Don’t forget to bring toiletries with you.

Of course, you should also bring undergarments, gadgets, and diving gear if you are interested in that adventure. Also, don’t forget to carry sunscreen, for you will probably get a bit of tan while exploring.

What To Expect

When visiting this island province, the first thing you will probably look for is where you can get mangoes and taste the most famous food.

They say you can explore the island in 2 days by sea and land.

What To Do: Guimaras Tourist Spots, Interesting Activities

There are several destinations on this island that you will enjoy to your heart’s content. The GUISI Lighthouse is an 18th-century Lighthouse that was built for Mariners. This was their guide when passing the Guimaras and Iloilo Strait. This Lighthouse is almost falling apart, but this is the 2 nd oldest Lighthouse in the country.

World's Sweetest Mango

You can also drop by the Holy Family. If you feel that stress is hitting you, this is one of the best places to go. Even the not-so-religious people will appreciate this place as it boasts of a station of the cross with life-sized statues.

Another place you can go to is the Taklong National Marine Reserve.  This is where you can appreciate the mangroves for yourself. You can also hear the birds’ chirping and the ocean’s serene sound. You can also see the corals because the water is very clear.

Don’t forget to add the Ave Maria Islet to your island-hopping itinerary. You will enjoy the fine white sand and a good view of the reef, with a wide selection of fish and coral.  You can also go snorkeling here and have a chance to feed the fish.

Guimaras Island Tours

If you land in Jordan or Buenavista Wharf, you must register at the Jordan tourism office. You can also get a tourist map there if you would rather DIY a tour of the island instead of hiring a tricycle driver as a tourist guide. If you booked into a resort, you must go to Nueva Valencia, PhP250 per tricycle (suitable for four people).

Guimaras Land Tours

WHERE TO STAY IN GUIMARAS

guimaras BEACH RESORT

Guimaras is peppered with beach resorts, so you’ll never really run out of place to stay.  Sitio Alubihod in Nueva Valencia is the preferred base if you plan to go island hopping as many of the islands included in the island hopping tours of Guimaras are situated nearby.

Here are some of the top rated Guimaras beach resorts according to booking websites:

Jannah Glycel Beach Resort

Location: Nueva Valencia, Guimaras

  Raymen Beach Resort

Cabugan Adventure Resort

  Location: Nueva Valencia, Guimaras

Andana Resort Guimaras

We stayed at Nature’s Eye Beach Resort during one of our visits in Guimaras.  I like the atmosphere of the place as it is quiet and it has a scenic view of the islands below. It’s also a perfect spot for sunset watching.  There’s a small village adjacent to the resort where you can mingle with the locals and experience local lifestyle. The only downside is it’s too far from Jordan Port.  So, if you plan to do the usual Guimaras island hopping, this is not a good base. But, they also offer an alternative island hopping to islands near the beach resort.

We will write about our favorite Guimaras tourist spots, Guimaras Island tour, where to stay in Guimaras Island, and our Guimaras itinerary in this full Guimaras Island travel guide.

Guimaras Island is considered as  one of the most visited exotic places  in the Philippines. It’s located southwest of Panay Island and northwest of  Negros Island , Guimaras has dry and wet seasons.

Hiligaynon  is the native dialect in Guimaras but the locals can write and speak English and Filipino very well. Guimaras is  mangoes province  and we loved it! Guimaras mangoes are among the  sweetest in the world . If you want to you try the best mangoes in the island, visit  Oro Verde Mango Plantation,  where more than thousands of trees are rooted in the land’s rich soil and produce these famous fruits.

GUIMARAS ISLAND TRAVEL GUIDE

How to get to guimaras island, how to get to guimaras island from iloilo city.

There are  ferries  from IloIlo wharf going to  Jordan  (its capital) and  Buenavista  in Guimaras Island. The boat ride will take  15 minutes  and costs as cheap as  15 PHP  during day time and  22 PHP  at night. If you are staying in Iloilo City, there are jeepneys, taxis and tricycles going to the wharf.

HOW TO GET TO GUIMARAS FROM BACOLOD

You have to ride a  jeepney  to Libertad Market from Central Market, which is  8.50 PHP  per person. From Libertad Market, you have to walk to SaveMore where jeepneys leave to Pulupandan. The journey takes almost an hour and it costs  30 PHP  to the ferry port.

The ferry going to Sibunag in Guimaras leaves early in the morning,  before 8 am . The ferry going to San Lorenzo leaves at  11 am , so take note of the schedule since there is  only one boat leaving daily . The boat takes an hour and it costs 100 PHP for an adult and 50 PHP for a 6 years old if you are traveling with a kid like we did going from Bacolod to Guimaras Island.

We had a hard time riding this boat and the water was coming inside since it’s so windy getting to San Lorenzo in Guimaras Island. Maybe it’s better if you choose the other route coming from Iloilo City.

Just  expect a difficult ride  if you ride the boat. It’s limited to 55 people but they also add motorbikes, sacks and we think is overloaded based on what we saw aside from getting dizzy during the ride.

Maybe if you take the boat leaving at 8 am the water isn’t so waivy but we didn’t have this experience!

CHICKEN INASAL

Inasal  is Bacolod’s pride and Guimaras Island is so close to Bacolod, so it’s easy to try with a similar taste in Bacolod’s. This unique version of  charcoal grilled chicken  was originated in Bacolod and is cooked with a marinade of  calamansi , coconut vinegar, pepper and  annato .

All these herbs and spices give  in asal  its unique flavor that people from all over the world fall in love with. Prices of orders are  around 100 PHP chicken and rice !

If you go on a budget and you like to eat local, there are  carinderias  in Guimaras and prices start from  40-60 PHP per dish  plus additional  15 PHP per cup of rice . Most of the dishes are fish since you are in an island! Check out our order of longanisa and caldereta in Guimaras.

If you’ve ever heard of  bulalo , it would be easy enough for you to imagine what  cansi  is, the Ilonggo version of said Filipino dish. For those who think those two words were made up,  bulalo  and  cansi  are basically dishes cooked with the same main ingredient:  beef shank . However, the shank isn’t necessarily the highlight of  cansi .

The star is actually the  bone marrow , which can be eaten by using the wrong end of your spoon/fork to scoop the marrow from the bone. Even shaking the bone downwards to let the marrow fall out might do the trick! Prices for order is around  350 PHP  and it’s a  complete soup full of meat  that can be shared between a few people.

There are oysters available in Guimaras since it’s too close to the sea. The prices is  60 PHP  for a dish and the order is quite big. It’s really delicious for a cheap price!

This seafood fish famous all over the Philippines is said to be  comparable to ceviche . In essence, though,  kinilaw  (literally “eaten raw”)  refers to the process of using vinegar’s acidity to cook meat or fish. It is more commonly used with fish and is served with other souring ingredients like  green mangoes .

It is then seasoned with pepper, chili and onions. It does well as an appetizer but is more ideally served with beer as  pulutan  (finger food). With the abundance of fresh fish in Guimaras Island,  kinilaw  isn’t hard to find.

Apart from the ones mentioned above, there are plenty of other seafood available in Guimaras Island like shrimp and  talaba  (oysters).
