The next day, we visited the famous Mattancherry Palace, also known as the Dutch Palace, which was built by the Portuguese in the 16th century. The intricate architecture and beautiful murals inside the palace were a treat to the eyes. We also visited the Jewish Synagogue, the oldest active synagogue in the Commonwealth of Nations. Lack of clarity, program was ambiguous. Difficult to determine what was and was not included. Tour had one itinerary, transport company had another itinerary and driver had another itinerary. Driver would say activity was included however when dropped at activity we would have to negotiate price. Too many players in the process, lots of confusion and felt like an element of corruption between all parties including the activity people. In reality the tour was a car, a driver and accommodation nothing more. We had to pay for a number of activities and only when we complained the driver suddenly provided some reimbursement. It appeared like “let the customer negotiate and pay” and if they don’t complain the driver/transport/tour company pocket the benefit. We paid around 170,000inr for this tour and based on our experience we would never use TourRadar again.

That’s exactly what happened when Instagram user @ryan.ambattu.manathoor noticed a London bus sporting vibrant advertisements promoting tourism in Kerala tourism .

He shoots the video, walking alongside the bus, singing aloud a Malayalam song, to show how the entire bus is covered with scenes from Kerala backwaters. A hashtag on one side of the bus says #TravelforGood.

The video has sparked a wave of appreciation among social media users. One user added, “Alappuzha, Kuttanad Ammathiri comments are not needed okay 😂 All kerala power 🔥🔥🔥 This is our Kerala, that’s enough.” Another user, beaming with pride said “Wow, the whole of Alappuzha is in the vehicle.” A third user wrote, “Alappuzha, Kuttanad supremacy everywhere.” A fourth user expressed, “People recognise India through Kerala , proud of it.”

Kerala Tourism’s vibrant advert on London buses huge hit on social media

K OZHIKODE : Malayalis residing in London are now being treated to glimpses of the serene backwaters of Alappuzha, even amidst the hustle and bustle of their daily commute. The Kerala tourism department has taken its advertising campaign global, with their ad prominently displayed on the iconic double-decker buses and tube stations across London. Emblazoned with images of the tranquil backwaters, the stickers adorning these busy London streets also bear the official logo Kerala Tourism.

The advertising initiative gained widespread attention when a 13-year-old Malayali boy, Ryan Ambattu, who resides in London, shared a video of the ad featured on a city bus via his Instagram account, @ryan.ambattu.manathoor. Ryan captured the video while strolling through London’s streets, singing a Malayalam song. The video quickly went viral across various social media platforms, amassing an impressive 4.6 million views on Instagram alone. “I’m proud to be a Malayali, and I’m proud to promote Kerala tourism,” Ryan said in a subsequent social media post.

Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas also jumped in by sharing the video across his social media platforms, hailing the department’s approach to promoting tourism in the state. “A new way of promoting Kerala tourism... our Alappuzha and Houseboat in London buses. Suggest new campaign ideas in the comment box that can be implemented in foreign countries,” read his social media post.

Meanwhile, the minister’s office informed TNIE that the department has initiated an extensive campaign across Europe to bolster Kerala tourism.

“The state used to witness an annual influx of 1.2 million foreign tourists in pre-Covid time. However, following the pandemic, the number declined significantly. Since assuming office, Minister Riyas has spearheaded aggressive promotional campaigns throughout Europe to attract foreign tourists to Kerala,” the minister’s office said.

“Besides the advertisement displayed on the London buses, we have installed static displays at London tube stations. The six-month-long campaign, launched in October 2023, has garnered a tremendous response. The influx of foreign tourists in 2023 and early 2024 witnessed a remarkable increase compared to previous years,” the office elaborated.

A video showing a London bus with an ad for Kerala tourism has captured the internet’s attention. The video was shared on Instagram by Ryan Shiju and also shared on Facebook by Kerala Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas.

Mayor-KSRTC driver row: Court orders cops to file case against Arya, Sachin Dev

Thiruvananthapuram: A court has issued an order to file a case against Mayor Arya Rajendran and her husband Balussery MLA Sachin Dev. The directive follows a complaint filed by KSRTC driver HL Yadhu, alleging misconduct by Mayor Arya Rajendran, her husband Sachin Dev, the Mayor's brother Arvind, his wife Arya, and an acquaintance. Thiruvananthapuram's First Class Judicial Magistrate Court 3 has instructed the Cantonment Police to initiate legal proceedings against them.

Yadhu's petition accuses the individuals of obstructing official duties, unlawful detention, and indecency. The court has forwarded the complaint to the police for further action. KSRTC driver Yadhu chose to pursue legal recourse by approaching the court after his attempt to file a police complaint proved unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, the police are actively investigating the case of the missing memory card from the CCTV system on the bus. The police have collected relevant documents from the KSRTC workshop in Pappanamcode where the cameras were installed. In the forthcoming days, statements will be recorded from the bus drivers, including Yadhu, and conductors who were on duty during the incident.

Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge - Spring Migration Bus Tours

Take the Blue Goose Bus to Cedar Point National Wildlife Refuge to experience the wonders of Spring migration in northwest Ohio. Cedar Point NWR is closed to the public, except for a fishing and paddling access located at the end of Yondota Road in Oregon, Ohio from May 1 – August 31. Cedar Point NWR is approximately 2,616 acres of wetlands and is the largest remaining contiguous wetlands in the western basin of Lake Erie. The refuge includes rare cottonwood dune forest communities located next to Lake Erie which provide critical habitat for migrating songbirds. Tours leave the visitor center at Ottawa NWR (14000 West State Route 2, Oak Harbor, Ohio) at 7 a.m. and return at 11 a.m. Registration opens Thursday, April 4 th at 10:30 a.m. Call 419-313-3236 to register.
