Kid Cudi (born January 30th, 1984) is an indie singer, rapper and songwriter originally from Cleveland, Ohio whose music is a unique blend of laid-back hip-hop and rock.
Cudi is known for his autobiographical lyrics. His songs are often 3 his childhood hardships, depression, isolation, and struggles with substance abuse. The themes of spirituality, heartbreak, and celebration permeate his music. His live performances are widely recognized as being an incredibly energized take on a hip-hop and rock show combined with a positive outlook and party atmosphere.
Cudi has sold over 22 million records in the U.S. He has been nominated for five Grammy Awards and won. He has often been cited as an influence on a number of contemporary hip-hop and alternative acts. Cudi has collaborated with several prominent artists across many different genres, including Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, David Guetta, Shakira, MGMT, Mary J. Blige, Michael Bolton, and Steve Aoki.
Cudi has worked extensively with the Brooklyn-based record label, Fool’s Gold, responsible for the likes of A Track, Lil B, and Danny Brown. He also launched his own record label, Wicked Awesome Records, in 2011.
Born Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi, Kid Cudi grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio, the youngest of four children. His father died when he was only 11 years old, and his passing profoundly impacted Cudi’s songwriting and musical style.
Kid Cudi adopted his stage name at the dawn of his career, which began after he moved to New York in 2005 with $500, a demo tape, and dreams of becoming a rapper. He released his first single, “Day ‘n’ Nite,” on his MySpace page in 2007. It gained traction across a number of music blogs and eventually got the attention of Cudi’s future mentor, Kanye West. With the support of West, Cudi released his first mixtape, A Kid Named Cudi, in July 2008.
Around the same time, the Italian electronic duo Crookers released a prominent remix of “Day ‘n’ Nite.” This created a huge amount of online buzz for Kid Cudi and provided a solid fan base from which to launch his debut conceptual album, “Man on the Moon: The End of Day” toward the end of 2009. Popular tracks from the album included “Make Her Say” and “Pursuit of Happiness,” the latter of which received an acclaimed cover by rocker Lissie.
A year after the release of his first album, Cudi released a sequel, Man on the Moon II: The Legend of Mr. Rager. Although this album did not reach the same success as his first, Cudi’s second work was still well-received. It was certified gold by the RIAA and reached number three on the Billboard charts.
In 2010 Kid Cudi joined forces with Dot da Genius and taught himself to play guitar to form the rock-rap band WZRD. The band released its music on Dot’s own label, Dream On Records. However, due to creative differences Dream On was dissolved and instead WZRD’s material was released on Cudi’s own label, Wicked Awesome, in 2012. Cudi followed up in 2013 with his third solo album, Indicud, which featured HAIM, A$AP Rocky, and Father John Misty, the former drummer from Fleet Foxes.
Cudi released his third solo album, Satellite Flight: The Journey to Mother Moon, in February 2014. Released with little promotion, it flew under the radar in comparison to Cudi’s earlier success.
In 2015, Cudi officially released the song “Love,” which samples “Sunblocks” by Ratatat. A new album release was announced later that year, and the lead song, “Confused!” was released soon after. Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven dropped in December 2015. Two additional songs were subsequently released from the album: “Judgemental Cunt” and “Wedding Tux.”
Cudi initially announced a new tour, dubbed the Especial Tour, but it was canceled later that year due to production problems and unspecified personal issues. As a consolation for his fans, Cudi released the title track from the album as another single.
In March 2016, Kid Cudi headlined the McDowell Mountain Music Festival in Phoenix, Arizona. Shortly after, he announced a new album would be coming soon. Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’ was officially released that December. The album was a commercial success and featured guest vocals by Travis Scott, Pharrell Williams, and André 3000. Cudi performed his song “Kitchen” live with a string orchestra on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to promote the album’s release, and launched a U.S. concert tour promoting the album.
In 2018, Cudi and Kanye West partnered to create the group Kids See Ghosts. Together, they produced a self-titled album, released in June 2018.
In 2020, Cudi announced a single with Eminem titled “The Adventures of Moon Man & Slim Shady.” The song was highly successful, debuting in the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100. Cudi also released a teaser video of his forthcoming album, Man on the Moon III: The Chosen, the last installment in the Man on the Moon series.
Man on the Moon III: The Chosen received critical acclaim. Cudi’s songwriting skills, in particular, were highly praised. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart.
On December 3, 2021, he collaborated with singer Ariana Grande on the song “Just Look Up” to promote the Netflix comedy Don’t Look Up. Cudi headlined the Rolling Loud Music Festival in the same year. During a performance, he revealed his intention to release two new albums in 2022.
The first of the two albums, The Boy Who Flew to the Moon, Vol. 1, was a compilation album which featured a re-release of “A Kid Named Cudi,” as well as the previously-unreleased “Love.”
Cudi’s second album of 2022 was the long-awaited Entergalactic, which appeared alongside an animated Netflix special of the same name. Entergalactic dropped on September 30, 2022, to much fan anticipation. The album was a commercial and critical success, debuting at number 13 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart.
Cudi is currently touring overseas. For those wishing to catch the next Kid Cudi tour, keep an eye on his official website for any new tour dates.
In addition to his musical career, Kid Cudi has dabbled in many other ventures. He has partnered with several clothing brands and designers, including BAPE, Surface to Air, Giuseppe Zanotti, A.P.C., Adidas, Virgil Abloh, Cactus Plant Flea Market, and Off-White. Through these collaborations, Cudi has had a hand in designing and creating tons of clothing, sneakers, and fashion accessories.
Live reviews
Coming from humble beginnings, Kid Cudi’s story is remarkable alone, without his track record epic live performances. After moving to New York with only a few hundred dollars and a demo tape, Kid Cudi’s signing with Kanye West began to catapult him to international stardom.
He very quickly acquired a cult-like following of high school and college students, selling out initially small venues, and eventually arena tours.
One of the most modest crowd pleasers in the music industry presently, Cudi poignantly demonstrated this at his gig back in 2011 in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Hotel, giving an incredibly moving speech before his performance of both versions of ‘Pursuit of Happiness’.
His juxtaposition of this emotional moment with the epic strobe lighting of the venue succeeded in elevating the audience, carrying them with him through every moment of his performance. A real bonus of seeing Kid Cudi perform live is that he’s so invested in pleasing his fans, meaning that the audience are able to experience a real variation of old and newer tracks.
Overall, the production value of the event just completes the experience of seeing a fantastic artist, and Kid Cudi has the whole package.

A true underdog story, Kid Cudi did not have the easiest beginnings to his rap career yet after a lucrative signing to Kayne West's label, the young artist was soon catapulted into the limelight. Luckily Kid Cudi, otherwise known as Scott Mescudi has kept his integrity and remained grounded and this attitude is transferred to his live show.
There is no arrogant swagger or cocky persona, Cudi arrives onstage with a huge grin on his face as the audience cheers below. They rap along loudly to 'Satellite Flight' which causes Scott to smile further before thanking them for their continuous support and giving a little back story to some of his early work. He runs through a tight set of tracks taken from all four of his albums before building up to the finale with a back to back rendition of 'Memories', his David Guetta collaboration and 'Day N' Nite', his first breakout single.
The atmosphere turns into complete dance party as Cudi encourages the crowd to bounce along with these club anthems. The mood changes before the finale as Scott poignantly stands centre and delivers a short speech about his past and beginnings into the hip hop world before a suitably sincere rendition of 'Pursuit Of Happiness'.
Kid Cudi is undeniably cool on stage and his music is refreshingly fresh, fun and chilled. He blends R&B and hip hop with elements of rock in a uniquely laid back, chilled style. His music is perfect summer listening and watching Cudi perform at a festival was ideal: the festival atmosphere was perfect for Cudi’s style and the whole crowd was loving his performance. Hits such as ‘Pursuit of Happiness’ and unique electronic/hip hop creation ‘Day N Nite’ were the two biggest tracks of the night and had the audience going wild, dancing and singing along. Cudi owned the stage, appearing perfectly at ease and confident as he waltzed around, mic in hand and snapback firmly on place, with his infamous glasses perched on his face. Cudi’s ‘Man on the Moon’ also received an incredible reaction from the crowd, partly because of the lyrics which convey such meaning, something evident by the way that Cudi performed the song (with real emotion and feeling). The entire show was great and the crowd wildly applauded and cheered Cudi when he left the stage.
It was alright. He didn't schedule an opener so we had to wait 2 and a half hours for him to start playing.(doors open at 7 he came on at 930) I understand having issues with the stage because it's the first show of the tour and he hadn't toured in a minute. Anyway he came out and played a mini Rock show on electric guitar and then had a 10 minute intermission and then did all the Cudi classic tunes. He cut out some songs because of the stage delay and ended up only playing for like 45-50 minutes it seemed like and then he was done. Awesome set on stage but not as good as I thought. It will get better as he gets deeper into the tour though.

Scott is an amazing performer. His deliverance & energy is there, you can feel it. He's so passionate about his music & you can just see it when he performs. The only thing I can complain about is the fanbase. The crowd was tooo hectic, if everyone just vibed & enjoyed the music instead of fighting through bottles, crowd surfing, throwing punches, & shoving & pushing, it would've been overall perfect night. Love me some Kid Cudi! The set up was so dope too!
Overall, the concert was incredible. Kid Cudi has always kept his expanse open both artistically and figuratively and this concert made that more than apparent in his live performance. The venue was great and the energy that went along with it was also well-endowed. I had a great time and would recommend to anybody that if there is a special artist or musician or whatever in your life, go out and see them. You will not be let down.
It was everything that I expected and that Cudi made me escape reality and drift upon a land and vibe never experienced before and that the energy the people fed off gave Mr. KID his positive grooveness and finesse capabilities of maximum power and great service of energy that he basically unleashed the Spirit Bomb just like Goku son and this is a night I would never forget.
This is man seriously one of the greatest performers of all time! His stage presence is amazing and he's very personable with the crowd and you literally fall in love with him and have post-concert depression when it's over. He was dancing all over the place and signed autographs for everyone when it was over. I wouldn't hesitate to see him in concert again!
Great performer, great show, however the atmosphere was absolutely terrible. I've been a fan for years and was disappointed to have my experience ruined by so many wanna be fans and posers. Cudi himself was great but all the posers made this a less than mediocre experience

Kid Cudi cancels tour after ill-fated Coachella stage jump
R ock star antics aren’t always glamorous. Just ask Kid Cudi, whose ill-fated Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival stage jump ended in a broken bone and, now, a canceled tour.
The New York rapper, whose moody, melodic spin on hip-hop made waves in the late aughts, was a surprise addition to the festival’s Weekend 2 lineup. But Cudi’s highly anticipated Sunday performance was cut short after he attempted to jump off the stage.
Videos shared on X showed the rapper jumping onto an empty space in the crowd. He landed on the grass at an awkward angle, then lay on the ground before two men helped him limp away.
Later that night, Cudi confirmed on X that the fall broke his foot. “Never broken a bone before so this is all a bit crazy,” he wrote .
Now, a more thorough prognosis is in. On Wednesday, the rapper posted again to X, sharing that he had a broken calcaneus (the large heel bone) and would need surgery.
“We have to cancel the tour so I can focus on getting better to be out there in top shape to rage with you all,” Cudi wrote. “Theres just no way I can bounce back in time to give 100%.”
He told his followers that ticketholders would be issued refunds for the tour, adding that he “will be back with new tour dates as soon as possible.”
It’s not the first time that a Coachella leg injury has caused cancellations. In 2023, Frank Ocean canceled his Weekend 2 headline set after sustaining fractures in his leg in the lead-up to the festival’s first weekend. (Ocean still performed at Weekend 1, but arrived late and spent much of his set sitting down .)

Kid Cudi Cancels Insano World Tour After Breaking His Ankle At Coachella
- Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below
Kid Cudi is canceling his upcoming Insano World Tour after sustaining an ankle injury at Coachella over the weekend. The rapper went to X on April 24 to tell fans that his broken ankle would take time to heal, forcing him to reschedule his tour, which was set to kick off in July, according to Rolling Stone .
“Guys, so, I have a broken calcaneus,” Kid Cudi wrote on X. “I’m headed to surgery now and there’s gonna be a long recovery time. We have to cancel the tour so I can focus on getting better to be out there in top shape to rage with you all. There’s just no way I can bounce back in time to give 100%. The injury is much more serious than I thought.”

The 40-year-old assured fans that they’ll be refunded. He also said new tour dates will be announced soon.
“I can’t wait to get back out there with you guys and turn up how we do,” Cudi wrote. “I’m so sorry fam and I love you all so much, thanks for the endless love and support. Im really disappointed as I’m sure you guys are too, but I will be back. Thats a promise. Im ok, just a lil soreness, but I’m in good spirits.”
Hello there ✌🏾🥹 pic.twitter.com/7JpaGR8Kpq — The Chosen One (@KiDCuDi) April 22, 2024
A day after the injury, Kid Cudi updated his fans about his injury via a video clip, saying.
“This is what happens when a 40-year-old man tries to prance around off stage like he’s 26, like he used to do back in the day,” he said at the time. “I learned a valuable lesson: no more prancing around, jumping off stages.”
He also assured his fans that he’ll bounce back.
“I don’t wanna let you guys down,” he said. “Not canceling anything just yet. Just gonna wait and see how things go.”
According to Rolling Stone, Cudi injured his ankle when he jumped off the stage during his performance at Coachella. Cudi expects to trek across North America and Europe when his tour kicks off at a later date.

Kid Cudi cancels world tour after Coachella injury
Plus, Kim Petras scraps summer festival dates, including Primavera Sound and Mighty Hoopla, due to "health issues"
By Hanna Ellington on 25 Apr 2024
Kid Cudi performing at Saturday Night Live
American rapper Kid Cudi has cancelled his Insano: Engage the Rage World Tour after breaking his foot during a last-minute Coachella performance on Sunday (21 April).
During his set at the Goldenvoice-promoted festival’s Sahara Tent, the 40-year-old singer jumped off the front of the stage, breaking one of his heel bones and cutting his set short. He joined the lineup two days before the second weekend kicked off on 19 April.
The recovery time for a severe calcaneus fracture can be up to two years , according to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, with those with labour-intensive jobs “unable to return to their job” post-injury.
“We have to cancel the tour so I can focus on getting better to be out there in top shape with you all,” he wrote on social media. “There’s just no way I can bounce back in time to give 100%. The injury is much more serious than I thought.”
Cudi (real name Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi) underwent surgery for the broken bone today (25 April), telling fans on X that he was “feelin’ good”. Most surgery patients need to wait three months post-surgery before putting weight onto the foot, with walking aids likely during the healing process, per the AAOS.
“I’ll make it up to you and be back better than ever very soon”
The AEG-promoted tour was set to begin on 28 June at Texas’s Moody Center (15,000), with stops at New York City’s Madison Square Garden (19,500), Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena (19,800), and Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena (18,300), before wrapping up the North American leg at Los Angeles’s Crypto.com Arena (20,000) at the end of August.
The European leg was due to start next February at Oslo’s Spektrum Arena (10,300) and set to end at London’s O2 Arena (20,000) on 18 March 2025.
Rapper Pusha T was due to support the 43-date tour, alongside rapper-actor Jaden and hip-hop duo EARTHGANG. Ticketholders will be notified and refunded, and new tour dates will be announced as soon as possible.
German singer Kim Petras has also cancelled forthcoming festival dates because of “health issues”. The Grammy-award-winning pop star was set to appear at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound, London’s Mighty Hoopla, Porto’s Primavera, and Seattle’s Capitol Hill Block Party this summer.
“I’ll make it up to you and be back better than ever very soon,” she wrote on social media.
Petras concluded her Feed the Beast World Tour in March, her third headlining venture, which kicked off last August in California. She played venues across the US, Canada, Brazil, and Europe before closing it out at Milan’s Fabrique (3,100).

Last weekend, Kid Cudi performed a last-minute set at Coachella, taking over the Sahara Tent on Sunday (April 21). However, his performance – which was his first at the Californian festival since 2019 – came to an abrupt end after he had broken his foot .
The injury occured after Kid Cudi jumped off the stage to get closer to his fans at the barricades during ‘Memories’. He was carried out of the Sahara Tent while his DJ played Steve Aoki’s remix of ‘Pursuit Of Happiness’.
Now, Cudi has shared an update on the severity of his injury, announcing that he will no longer to tour North America with Pusha T between June and August. The rapper wrote on Instagram: “Guys, so, I have a broken calcaneus. I’m headed to surgery now and there’s gonna be a long recovery time.”

Shortly after suffering his injury, Kid Cudi revealed the foot break to fans via X that he had “never broken a bone before so this is all a bit crazy”.
Kid Cudi and Pusha T are currently slated to tour Europe and the UK early next year . It is currently unclear if the European leg of the INSANO tour will be affected or postponed due to his injury.
