What to expect

Chances to visits, kinabalu park headquarters.

Kinabalu Park Headquarters, on an elevation of 1,563m (5,000ft) above sea level, is the administrative office of Sabah Parks, where climbers must register and get a permit for their Mt. Kinabalu climb. Most of the Parks’s facilities are located here including the visitor’s exhibition centre, restaurants and different types of accommodations. All visitors must pay a minimal entrance fee when entering Kinabalu Park.

Trails around Kinabalu Park

For simple short trekking, one may find the numerous guided nature trails around Kinabalu Park a wonderland, as you may stumble upon rare botanical species and who knows, be the first to make new new discoveries of rare and endemic plants.

Mt Kinabalu Botanical Garden

Mt Kinabalu Botanical Garden (Mountain Garden), a 5-acre Garden, is one of the biggest attractions at Kinabalu Park. Flora from all over the Park has been replanted here, making it an excellent diverse plant garden exhibit. Learn about the medicinal values of some of the plants from our local guide during the tour with us!

Poring Hot Springs

An hour drive (40 km) from Kinabalu Park HQ, in the lowlands, lies the Poring Hot Springs attraction. “Poring” is the local dialect word for the bamboo plant specie growing in the vicinity. Visitor can choose to soak in the individual bathtubs filled with the hot sulphuric minerals of the nearby spring, claimed to have therapeutic powers.

Finally, a must visit to the treetop canopy walk . Trek for 20 minutes and set foot amidst the canopy of the Menggaris tree – the King of the Forest, the walkway is 157.8 m long and 41 m high! Definitely not for the faint-hearted. If the day is in your favour, spot the world’s biggest flower, Rafflesia . This rare and exotic parasitic flowering plant takes up to 15 months to bud and only bloom for 5-7 days. The Park will post a notice if there a Rafflesia in bloom or bud and a minimal entrance fee will be collected, which goes to the local villagers of that garden.

kinabalu park & poring hot spring tour

  • Upon pick up from the hotel lobby, you will be whooshed straight into Sabah's lush countryside. The first stop will be the Poring Hot Springs. Your day wraps up with an immersive exploration of Mount Kinabalu's treetops. The Canopy Treetop Walk invites you to witness the grandeur of a hundred million years old rainforest from a 175m length walkway suspended 60 meters above lush jungly tangles. Take in the sights and sounds and discover unique rainforest creatures from a bird's eye view. A 20 minutes hike is needed to reach the Canopy Walkway.
  • Then, it's time for a soothing sulphur bath in the Japanese-styled open-air tubs! Dip in the all-natural mineral-rich hot springs water, surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens. There is also a cold water pool nearby for those who prefer a cold dip.
  • Continue your journey through the mountainous roads winding along the Crocker range for another hour, till the next brief stop at Nabalu Handicraft market. Nabalu is a rustic point perched on the hillside, where the local natives gather to sell local produce, fruits, home grown vegetables and handicraft souvenirs.
  • Enjoy lunch at the local restaurant.
  • Next up on the day's agenda is the visit to Malaysia's first-ever UNESCO World Heritage Site, Kinabalu National Park. Set at 1,500m above sea level, this 754sq kilometre park features one the tallest mountains in all of South East Asia as its centrepiece—Mount Kinabalu. Rising at 4,095.2m with cloud-hugging peaks that shade the valleys below, the majestic mountain is certainly a sight to behold from Kinabalu National Park.
  • Enjoy the refreshing and cooling air as you proceed for a guided walk along the nature trails in the Botanical Garden and learn more about Kinabalu Park's biological treasure trove.
  • Then, transfer to Kundasang and check into a mountain resort. You will notice the change in air temperature at this elevated level.
  • You are free to explore the resort at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay at the mountain resort.

  • On your second day, you will wake up to a misty morning ushering in views of sun-draped Mount Kinabalu. Birds chirp away while low-hanging clouds blanket the valleys.
  • First up on the day’s agenda: visiting Desa Cow Farm. When you see the roads grow narrow along the way and the landscape gives your rear-view mirror licks of fresh green sceneries, the 199-hectare stretch of pristine farmland on the foothills of Mount Kinabalu means you have reached the Desa Cattle Farm!
  • Cattle graze the green valley pastures to provide nearly one million litres of mountain-fresh milk annually, all while travellers both near and far enjoy the outrageously scenic view that plays the backdrop to this dairy farm. You can get close to the cattle, bottle feed the calves, and enjoy fresh milk or yoghurt produced straight off the farm.
  • The next stop will be at the Nabalu Handicraft Market. Nabalu is a rustic point perched on the hillside, where the local natives gather to sell local produce, fruits, homegrown vegetables and handicraft souvenirs.
  • Lunch at a local restaurant.
  • Thereafter, depart to Kota Kinabalu city with a final stop at Tamparuli Town to take a walk on the famous “Jambatan Tamparuli” suspension bridge and soak up the small-town charm before dropping off at your hotel.

About The Location

Kinabalu National Park is Malaysia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site and part of the Kinabalu UNESCO Global Geopark, floristically fantastic with an estimated 5,000-6,000 vascular plant species and identified as a globally important Centre of Plant Endemism. Set at 1,500m above sea level, this 754sq kilometre park features one the Tallest Mountains in all of South East Asia as its centrepiece, Mount Kinabalu—rising at 4.095.2m with cloud-hugging peaks that catch breath, enchants eyes and shading valleys below—certainly, a sight to behold from Kinabalu National Park. Also within the park are restaurants amidst lush montane forests, a botanic garden boasting plant species endemic to Mount Kinabalu as well as nature trails varying in length, from 20 minutes to 2-3 hours.

Poring Ranau  — This little park is the perfect place for a more relaxed jungle experience with its canopy walkways and warm therapeutic sulphur hot springs. Situated about 40 KM from Kinabalu National Park HQ, Poring Hot Spring was actually originally built by the Japanese during WWII. Now it is a top destination sought after by tourists and locals alike.

700m above sea level and surrounded by one of the world’s oldest rainforests, Sabah Tea Garden is more like a tea plantation than it is a garden, with rainforest trees and organic tea leaves growing side by side. Activities include a tour of the tea plantation and tea factory, where visitors are given a detailed explanation of tea cultivation, harvesting, processing, packaging, and brewing. There is also an on-site restaurant with delicious tea-infused desserts and local cuisines.

Added Benefits

  • Travel at comfortable pace, no rush
  • Overnight experience in nature, 700m above sea level

  • ccsclwns7773 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Worth it for the temple area Very interesting Chinese temple , at the middle cable car stop, the final stop is at the mall, Casino and theme park and we found that area to be awful. We spent 45 minutes in the mall, it was full of Chinese tourists, lots of shopping and restaurants but that’s not why we took the trip. The temple at Chin Swee cable car station was far more interesting, spent most of the time there looking at the temple and area and got a Starbucks. Read more Written April 17, 2024

He is very well informed and friendly. I really appreciated his time. His car was clean and well air conditioned. Thank you. Read more Written April 15, 2024

  • NorthStar11369935460 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Beautiful views and great guidance! I took this tour as a solo female in late April and was so impressed with the experience I had! The Chinese temple was absolutely beautiful, with so many views of the city. Each stop was the perfect amount of time to spend, and the driver was accommodating to adjust the schedule if needed. It allowed for a lot of independent exploration while still getting the guidance I needed. My guide, Aris, was very kind and informative, answering all my questions and even took my picture to capture all the memories I created. The River of Life and Lake Symphony/ KLCC Park were definitely the highlights of the tour. They had breathtaking views and history, but driving through the city’s cultural centers was also a great experience. I would recommend for anyone on their first day to the city, as I did nearly as soon as I got in from my flight. All my thanks to Aris and Asni Tours! Read more Written April 13, 2024

They send me contact and cleared my doubts prior the trip. They shifted my time and managed half day accordingly. The tour guide Albinhar who came was really great and supportive. He did explain everything and took everywhere on time. Good work Trip advisor team for arranging this. Read more Written April 13, 2024
  • JosephSims 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Highly recommended Our tour took away all the hassle of transportation, parking, and access. We were able to just enjoy the sites. Some of the sites we visited were not on our list. But they were well worth the time spent. Never thought I wanted to see a pewter factory. But it was one of the highlights of our trip. Our driver, Rajan was well spoken and knowledgeable enough to answer our unscripted questions about anything related to Malaysia. Well done Read more Written April 11, 2024

  • freespirit1950 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Much as expected and great views I was advised to arrive early, which I did (0915) in order to get the best visibility and avoid the crush. It didn't take long for tour bus crowds and others to arrive. I didn't go to the uppermost deck but the views were worthwhile and as good as you'd get from the Petronas IMO. There's only so much 'ooh' and 'aah' you can do so my total visit was a little of 30 mins and I left to visit the adjoining botanical gardens. Read more Written April 9, 2024

  • Simon1985au 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A great experience We had a very short 2 day stop over in Kuala Lumpur on our way home from Japan and only arranged the one tour whilst we were here, and I am glad it was this one. Communication leading up to the day was excellent, and our guide, Rayhan Naidu, made the entire experience excellent. From the moment he picked us up he was friendly and informative. He took us to the mind blowing Baku caves, and to feed the troupes of monkeys around Kuala Selangor which was amazing. We had a great seafood meal (and I'm not a fan of seafood at all) and finished off with the firefly boat tour. I wasn't expecting much from the boat tour given the time of year, but it ended up being more then I expected. Overall, we were very happy with the tour and the service provided throughout. • NatalieA2138 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Something different away from the city We did Genting Highlands trip with cable car ride. It was a quick cable car ride to the top as there were no crowds. There was a lot of mist both going up & coming down, sometimes quite thick. The temperature is also a lot cooler which was good. The cable car ride is quite long and goes over rain forest. At the top there were hotels, indoor & outdoor theme park, a mall & lots of eateries. Unfortunately the theme park is closed on Tuesday's so we ended up going to see the Chin Swee Caves Temple which was the best part of our trip. Our driver Al was polite & good to deal with. The tour to Genting Highlands was a nice break from the city. Read more Written April 3, 2024
