Planning a trip to Paris with teens and tweens?

Our family spend two weeks in Paris with an 18-year-old, 15-year-old, and 12-year-old and we made memories to last a lifetime! It was each of our first time traveling to Europe and the perfect “starter course” for us.

As we dive into our Paris with teens’ top picks, it’s important to note that we flew to Paris from Salt Lake City overnight. We slept during our entire flight but the time change was significant and jet lag lingered for several days.

Keep reading for our hits and top picks in this detailed Paris with teens guide. We strolled through the city streets, rode the Metro, took two-day trips, and ate some amazing Parisian food.

Follow along below to see what we enjoyed in the City of Love to plan your epic Paris with tweens and teens vacation.

Don’t have time to read a bunch of Paris blog posts and reviews? Here are some of our top picks for visiting Paris with kids.

Popular Paris Tours/Activities

  • Scavenger Hunt at the Musee d’Orsay (my kids voted this the BEST thing they did in Paris)
  • Paris Food Tour (We ate SO many yummy treats on our Food Tour)
  • Tootbus (this is a kid-friendly hop-on-hop-off bus)
  • Eiffel Tower (skip the line and go straight to the top)
  • Day Trip to Giverny and Versailles (it’s a great city break)
  • Flytographer photo shoot (they are easy to book and really affordable)

Kid-Friendly Paris Hotels

  • Hotel Aiglon (this is a quiet area near Luxembourg Garden, and it’s perfect for families)
  • Pullman Paris Eiffel Tower Hotel (there’s a shuttle to Disneyland or Giverny from here)
  • Newport Bay Club Resort (this is our favorite place to stay at Disneyland)

Paris with Teens: Museum Highlights

Museum options are near endless in a city that is truly a museum itself. I suggest putting a list together of museum options you think your teens will enjoy and allowing them to explore the museum websites and/or Instagram accounts to narrow it down further before your trip.

Louvre Museum

One of the most well-known museums in Paris, Europe, and likely the world is the Louvre, home to the Mona Lisa. It is also the world’s largest museum. Let that soak in for a minute.

Image of the exterior of the Louvre Museum in Paris

In fact, if you spent 30 seconds looking at every piece on display in the Louvre it would take you over a month .

There are plenty of Louvre Museum tours that can cater to your group including teens. Check out the latest rates and availability.

We left most of our day open to explore the Louvre and instead of a guided tour, we booked our tickets in advance and purchased the audio tour on-site.

Image of two teens doing an audiotour at the Louvre Museum in Paris

Depending on your background and interests in art, you may want to plan out your day step by step. We instead chose to let our teens take the reins by guiding us via audio guide with their in-house Nintendo 3DS!

Our first stop was the Mona Lisa. There are signs everywhere directing you to Leonardo da Vinci’s masterpiece. There is often a queue to see Mona up close, but it moves quickly and she is always ready for a selfie.

It may seem overdone and overhyped, but I have to say seeing the Mona Lisa in person was surreal and a huge highlight of my trip. Our youngest (tween) kept asking if it was the “real-real” Mona Lisa.

Seeing photos or copies of the Mona Lisa and other art your entire life, it’s truly incredible when you see the original in person.

After meeting Ms. Lisa, the kids each chose something of interest to them. We let them find the route and guide us through the many halls and rooms of the Louvre.

On our way, we lingered at several notable pieces and listened to their stories via the audio guide.

  • The Winged Victory of Samothrace is on display in The Daru staircase.
  • Liberty Leading the People by Eugène Delacroix is located inside the famous Red Rooms.
  • Royal Furnishings of Marie Antionette, King Louis XIV, XV and XVI, and more.

All teens agreed they would lead us to the Egyptian Antiquities section  of the Louvre. It is one of the world’s largest collections with almost 5,000 years of Egyptian art .

Their fascination had us wandering for well over an hour in this section alone. You can truly spend as little or as much time as you desire inside this massive space. For us, it was purely our appetites that dictated our departure.

Book a Family Photo Shoot

Whenever we travel, we almost always book a family photo shoot with Flytographer. They are super easy, affordable, AND guarantee that I’ll be in some photos. You can get $25 off if you book through this link or use the code HAWAIITRAVEL.

Eugène Delacroix Museum

After strolling the Louvre for hours on end, you might crave something off the beaten path. The Musée National Eugène-Delacroix is exactly the ticket. In fact, your admission here is included with your Louvre ticket.

Image of the garden at the Eugene Delacrois museum in Paris France

After viewing his artwork in the Louvre, we wandered to the other side of Paris to find this tucked-away oasis. It is more about the building and the scenery than the artwork inside.

The museum was actually once home to Eugene Delacroix who wrote in a journal entry, “ My apartment is decidedly charming […]. Woke up the next day to see the most gracious sun on the houses opposite my window. The view of my little garden and the cheerful appearance of my studio always make me happy.” (Journal, December 28, 1857).

Image of a white building with greenery in front

We spent an hour sitting, meditating, and relaxing in that very garden. Afterward, we walked and dined on sorbet in the nearby vibrant neighborhood.

This uncrowded gem took us all by surprise and help us soak in the Parisian artist lifestyle, if only for a few moments.

Musée de l’orangerie.

Having been a fan of Water Lilies  by Claude Monet for years, I knew this was a stop we had to add to the Paris with teens itinerary.

The audio tour enhanced our visit and got our teens involved in pieces of art they otherwise would not have explored.

Image of Monet's Water Lilies at the Musee de l'Orangerie in Paris

We spent the first part of our visit enjoying the quiet stillness of Water Lilies.  It was incredible to see them on a full scale and in the way Monet himself chose to have them displayed.

With audio tours and headphones in hand, we went room by room. Each of us chose two or three pieces to discover and learn about via audio tour per room. This let the teens have some independence and choose artwork that spoke to them directly.

When we finished one room, we moved on as a group to the next.

Musée Rodin

The Museum itself was the former residence of sculptor Auguste Rodin whose famed work includes The Thinker .

As a young artist, Rodin was three times denied admission to École des Beaux-Arts, a prestigious institution in Paris.

Image of the garden outside the Musee Rodin in Paris France

Years later as he became a notable figure in the art community, “ he bequeathed all his works and possessions to the French state which, in exchange, purchased the Hôtel Biron and committed to turning it into a museum dedicated to the artist ” ( Source ).

We all found the irony quite entertaining.

Image of Rodin's The Thinker statue outdoor surrounded by trees

We spent a bit of time inside the residence, but most of it was spent exploring the sculptures on display in the beautiful gardens surrounding the estate. They even have a small cafe in the back for you to dine or snack on your own food.

Musée d’Orsay

Fancy some Vincent Van Gogh? Inside this architectural gem, you’ll find some of his most notable pieces of art.

  • Portrait of the Artist  and other self-portraits. Insert Dad Joke about original selfie artist here.
  • Starry Night Over the Rhone is one piece of the Starry Night collection and is a more cheerful version when compared to his other famous night work, also called Starry Night , that was painted during his time in an asylum.
  • La Méridienne.
  • Van Gogh’s Room in Arles.

Image of a bunch of statues inside the Musee d'Orsay in Paris France

While my teens loved taking a trip into the mind of someone as curious as Van Gogh, I personally loved the pieces by Edouard Manet.  Le Balcon easily caught my eye.

Our strolls through the many museums of Paris gave us great conversation starters over dinner and into breakfast the next day.

Paris with Teens: Top Tours

The best money I spent in Paris would have to be on our guided tours. We took two day trips outside the city to make it happen and also used the free service from Paris Greeters Walking Tours .

Mixed in with our museum days we traveled to Versailles and Normandy for some unforgettable adventures.

Palace of Versailles Bike Tour

I knew early on this would be part of our Paris vacation with teens. I loved the option of biking around the palace property and outer gardens.

Having bikes changed up the pace of our everyday walking, plus we got a free metro ride to Versailles included in our tour price.

Image of a girl riding a bike with green grass behind her

While some people visit Versailles for only a couple of hours, we chose this as a full-day adventure. Biking tours happen rain or shine, and rain it did! But more about that later.

We met our English-speaking tour guide in Paris and boarded the metro together to Versailles where we were outfitted with bikes and helmets as needed. Brief instructions were given on navigating the short way through city streets to the palace entrance.

Our first stop was a small marketplace filled with pop-up shops and brick-and-mortar bakeries, cafes, and more. We purchased our go-to and classic  Jambon-Beurre (French ham & cheese) on baguettes to take with us for a picnic lunch during our tour.

Image of old buildings surrounding a pond at Versailles in Paris

The bike ride took us on a guided tour of the Royal grounds, Marie-Antoinette’s Private Hamlet which is straight out of a Disney fairytale (or maybe it’s the other way around?), the Grand & Petit Trianon, a picnic (bring your own food and drinks) as well as access to the Palace of Versailles and gardens itself.

Our particular tour did not include a guided tour inside the palace. We opted to wander and skip any formal or audio tours for this portion.

Image of two teens looking out a window with netting on it at the Palace of Versailles in Paris France

We loved the contrast between the palace grounds and Marie-Antoinette’s Private Hamlet in comparison with the packed hallways of the chateau.

On our ride back to turn in the bikes a massive rain storm began. We had ponchos and umbrellas (a must for any time of year in Paris) and laughed pretty much our whole way home.

Shoes were soaked, hair was damp, and smiles were broad. It’s always those unexpected moments that seem to make the best memories. Check the latest rates and availability.

Normandy D-Day Tour from Paris

Every day we spent in France seemed to get better and better. We were becoming more confident speaking basic French phrases ( I bought this French Conversation Guide for Kids ) and loved being part of the culture surrounding us.

Image of teenagers walking into a tunnel at Normandy Beach in France

The D-Day tour was on my husband’s wish list. I wanted to make the most of our time and money since it required a long drive passed many toll booths along the way.

Ultimately I decided to spend the money on a small group tour which is capped at 8 guests and included comfortable luxury van transportation.

We also happened to go on the actual D-Day which was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. If you happen to go during any special dates that are not closed to the public due to visiting government officials and dignitaries you might experience some of the following.

  • Commemorative speeches (we heard an inspiring speech of remember and courage by Army Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff).
  • Military airplane flyovers.
  • Wreath-laying ceremony.
  • Choral performances.

Image of someone shaking the hand of a WWII veteran in a wheelchair in Normandy, France

And the highlight, meeting some of the more than 20 WWII veterans present for the 2022 ceremony. We got to meet them, shake their hands and learn about their service.

But even for those visiting on other days, the tour was incredible.

The D-Day invasion of Normandy, France was filled with death and heartache but also the beginning of liberating so many. Our teens were in awe of:

  • the historic knowledge of our tour guide.
  • walking on the actual beaches our armed forces arrived at many years ago.
  • crouching through actual bunkers remaining on the coastline.
  • looking out over the beaches from the vantage point of German troops.
  • walking the peaceful grounds of the US Cemetery which has so much symbolism in design and structure.

After our tour, our guide took us to a beautiful family-owned orchard. It was secluded, gorgeous, and best of all had just opened a summer pop-up al fresco restaurant where we dined on the best French cuisine.

Paris with Teens: Free Time

Two weeks in Paris gave us plenty of time to soak it all in. We rode the Metro plenty and found it to be the easiest to navigate even over Washington, D.C. and New York City’s public transportation systems.

Give it a try at least once, but you may find you don’t mind walking.  We often chose the leisurely route to walk, stumble upon something new and take in all the sights and sounds of Paris.

Image of a pot of pink flowers in front of an old French building at the Tuilleries Garden in Paris

Our most enjoyable free time activities are listed below. I suggest setting aside time to unwind and free play (even with teens!) in some of Paris’s famous gardens:

  • Tuileries Garden, which is next to the Louvre.
  • Eiffel Tower of course! Take the climb or sit on the grass at the base of this famous landmark.
  • Luxembourg Garden with play sailboats to rent for a few Euros, I was surprised how much my teens enjoyed this.

Paris with Teens FAQs

One hundred percent! There are so many Paris locations to explore with teens. My top tip is to vary your activities as you visit Paris with teenagers. It can be easy to overload your itinerary with museums but planning down time, shopping, and even things that seem too young for your teens might be a huge hit.

A few of my top suggestions for teen-friendly Paris activities include hiring a guide for your top interests, making use of audio tours in your native language, sampling favorite Parisian pastries, even going grocery shopping, and unwinding at one of the many gardens throughout Paris.

There are plenty of attractions in Paris for teens. A few of the top things to do with teens in Paris include checking out iconic views of the city (like the Sacré-Coeur or the Arc de Triomphe), seeing the Eiffel Tower, visiting the Louvre, and exploring Jardin du Luxembourg.

Paris with Teens Vacation Wrap Up

Around the World with Kids

Follow my family as we travel and learn with our children, the perfect paris itinerary for families with tweens.

Paris – The City of Light. Even kids who do not know much about the world will recognize Paris . With the iconic Eiffel tower and the Arc de Triomphe, to its glittering luxury of Versailles and the Champs-Élysées, it’s a city that cannot be missed. It is an easy introduction to Europe for kids and tweens. There is so much to do and see, five days is not enough for most, but it was enough for a group of two adults, two seniors and two (very into their phones) tweens. Here is our itinerary that was about perfect for our time in Paris.

Day 1 – Landing Day

Two teens overlooking the city of Paris with the Eiffel Tower in the distance

Day one you need to take it easy. Most flights from the US will land in the morning. By the time you get through immigration, figure out the train system, and get into Paris, you will not be there until late afternoon. Do not have any set plans for that day, you have no idea how jet lag will hit you. We chose to drop our bags at our lodgings, and then go out and find a local restaurant to get some food. Most of us could keep our eyes open for the meal (some of us could not). But we were able to eat.

Once fed, my cure for jet lag is walking. You need to stay awake until bedtime to help fight the jet lag. We chose to walk to the Paris Opera House to keep awake, take in the sights of neighborhoods in Paris, and enjoy some treats along the way.

After walking, take a light dinner, and then straight to bed early. You will need your energy for a full day of activities the next day!

Day 2 – Eiffel Tower and a Walking Tour of Paris

A mon and son doing a selfie in front of the Eiffel Tower, a older couple walking arm in arm, two tween siblings in front of Notre Dame in Paris

Wake up early to travel to the Eiffel Tower . The Paris Metro is easy to navigate. You can use Google Maps to figure out the best route and about how long it will take. Note that the walking times assume healthy people walking at a decent pace. If you need more time or find yourself liking to look at things and take your time, plan accordingly. I suggest both seeing the Eiffel Tower in the morning, and pre-book timed entry tickets. Especially in the summer, those ticket lines can be long. The morning means less people (the later you book, the more people you will find) and you will be visiting when everyone still has their energy and patience. You will need both for the Eiffel Tower .

Once done, find lunch. Do not eat within a 2-block radius of the Eiffel Tower . Those restaurants are expensive with decent to bad food. They thrive on the tourists they will never see again. Instead look for restaurants just a few blocks away. You will find great food at better prices.

Once you are reenergized it is time to do a walking tour! I love walking tours early in the trip because it helps you get a lay of the land, and what to see and check out more when you are in Paris. You can either use a site like WithLocals or GetYourGuide to book a walking tour with a local guide. Or you can do what we did, and download the Rick Steve’s Europe App. He has free walking tours of different neighborhoods in Europe. We chose to do the Historic Paris walking tour and walked through Notre Dame , the Latin Quarter, and up to Sainte Chappelle .

By now you are tired and hungry. Get dinner, preferably near your hotel , and get back into bed for the night. You are still jet lagged and need some recovery time.

Day 3 –The Louvre and Explore Some Public Spaces

Winged Victory, the Mona Lisa, A young woman in front of a Roman Statute, The Grand Gallery in the Louvre

You cannot go to Paris without seeing the most famous art museum in the world. Make sure to get timed entry tickets for the the morning with the Louvre . The line for those to enter can become hours long in the summer without a timed entry ticket, and even those with skip-the-line tickets can find themselves waiting an hour or more. You can use your Paris Museum Pass to book a free timed entry ticket, so just do it. Also, have a game plan for the Louvre. If you looked at each piece of artwork for 1 minute, it would take you 65 days non-stop to see every piece in the Louvre . Do not even attempt it. Here, we again relied on the Rick Steve’s Europe App (Not Sponsored 😉) , which walks you through the Denon wing of the Louvre and takes you through the classics (Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, and Winged Victory, etc.) It takes you about 2 hours to go through with his tour. The Louvre also rents Audio Tours , so if you have huge art fans, I suggest renting that for a much more through tour.

You could easily spend all day at the Louvre if you have art lovers in your group. I did not. After two hours, most of my party were ready to move on . We got lunch at a nearby restaurant that had amazing sandwiches before moving on to our afternoon in the gardens.

A young man playing on the playground in the Luxemburg Gardens, the lake in the gardens, a young girl on the carousal, the trees in the gardens

I know it is day three, but you might still be fighting some jetlag. Getting in the fresh air in the afternoon helps you continue to get over that. I would suggest spending the afternoon in one of Paris’ amazing public parks or doing a walking tour of a different neighborhood. My daughter had read about the Luxembourg Gardens so that is what we chose. We took a bus there and enjoyed walking in the beautiful park, riding the carousel (really meant for little kids, but they let the birthday ride), and enjoying the amazing playground with climbing structures, slides, and a cool zipline that looked like it was going to launch kids off it at the end.

After a full day, get a light dinner. If you have energy, tonight is the night to see the Eiffel Tower lit up at night. Note, in the summer, the sun can set as late as 10pm, which can make for a late night. If your tweens are not up for it, go back for some chill time in the hotel and try again tomorrow.

Day 4 – Musee D’Orsay, Medieval Churches, and a Seine River Cruise

The view of the Musee D'Orsay from the upper level, the windows of Sainte-Chapelle, on a sightseeing boat on the river Seine

It is Day 4, you are finally (hopefully) starting to get over your jet lag! Time for more art! The Musee D’Orsay is also a popular museum. If you are visiting during a busy time, consider getting a timed entry ticket. We chose instead to go when the museum opened and use our Paris Museum Pass for skip the line tickets. We went as they opened and had about a 10-minute wait. Our family enjoyed this museum more than the Louvre, partly because it was smaller and felt more manageable and partly because it had more contemporary pieces. We again used Rick Steve ’s to help guide us through the museum, but the museum does rent an audio tour if you want something more in-depth. We ended up spending 2.5 hours here. You can of course spend longer, but we found that was about the right amount of time.

After lunch (we ate at the museum restaurant and while pricey, we thought it as one of the best meals we had on the trip) you can visit one of the many beautiful churches in Paris. Notre Dame was still closed when we visited, so we decided to go to Sainte-Chapelle to see the famous stained-glass windows. The Pantheon would be another amazing site that is included in your Paris Museum Pass .

After marveling at the ancient architecture and beauty of the churches, go ahead and take a Seine River Cruise ! You can see these boats all along the Seine. Usually filled with tourists, it is about an hour ride starting from the Eiffel tower and goes down past Notre Dame and then swings around and returns to its starting point. If you want to be flexible and economical, this is the best way, and it is a nice little ride after all the walking and culture. If you can plan ahead, I would recommend a sunset dinner cruise on the Seine, so you can eat dinner, and enjoy the Eiffel Tower lit up at night from the river. We did a cruise in the late evening, then ate dinner near the tower before half our group went back to our hotel and the other half decided to see the tower lit up and watch its lights show.

Day 5 – Versailles

A woman in the hall of mirrors at Versailles

Plan to be away the whole day today. Get an early train out of Gare du Nord or Gare de l’Est to the Versailles train station, about a 40-minute train ride. Your normal train pass will not work, so be sure to purchase round trip tickets to Versailles at the station before you leave. It will make life easier.

Once at Versailles it is a short 10-minute walk to the gates of the Chateau de Versailles . Make sure to admire the grand home from the outside. Then walk through the security and join the throngs of tourists going to see the Chateau.

I recommend that you see the palace first. Seeing the palace takes about 2 hours, and it is a one way, so you cannot get lost. There is a free audio tour available on the app (make sure to download the app ahead of time, as the Wi-Fi in the palace is very weak). Otherwise, you can use our old friend Rick Steve’s to take you around the palace and talk you through what you see.

Once through the palace I suggest you take a lunch break before checking out the gardens behind the palace. You can eat on site at Angelina’s , but the line and wait can be very long. You should be able to leave the grounds and eat lunch in town, and then return.

The gardens are only free if there are no water fountain shows. If you are attending on a day when there is water shows, you will need to pay a separate entrance fee to enter the gardens. However, the entrance fee is worth it, even if you do not see any water fountain shows. Take a few hours to walk around and see the meticulously manicured gardens. Or you can take the Little Train which takes you around. We choose to rent the electric golf cart. It takes at least an hour to an hour and half, but you can start and stop when you want, and there is an automatic audio tour that talks about our surroundings as you drive. The kids had a blast and I managed not to kill anyone while driving.

After your day at Versailles, head back to Paris for a lovely dinner in the city of light.

Day 6 – Arc de Triomphe and Shopping (Plus the Ballet)

A family in front of the Arc de Triomphe, the bow at the end of the ballet

On our last day in Paris, we chose to check out the Arc de Triomphe . This famous monument built by Napoleon, is a staple in all photos of Paris. We used our Paris Museum Pass to skip the ticket line and go straight to the steps. As my mother had difficulty to walk steps, we got her a ride on the elevator up. My husband, kids and I walked up the 263 steps (my kids counted) to the top of the arch. My husband and I went up and sat as we caught our breath and reassured ourselves that we were not having heart attacks. My kids skipped around and quickly found Abuela to hang out with. After enjoying the view and heading down, we decided to eat lunch on the Champs-Élysées , and do some high-end window shopping. We enjoyed walked around and seeing Dior, Channel, and the other high end stores the street is famous for. We saw the Stranger Things pop up shop (but I was not willing to wait in line) and we ended up going into the Disney Store where we did end up purchasing for the kids because…. of course, we did.

We headed back to the hotel to change and get a quick light meal before heading to our treat to end the trip – we watched the Paris Ballet perform a Mid-Summer Night’s Dream in the Opera Bastille . It was a beautiful theater, and of course the ballet was amazing. The costumes, the music, the gorgeous dancing. We were all blown away. It was the perfect way to end our time in Paris and the cherry on top of a gorgeous trip.

Day 7 – Travel Day

Unfortunately, it was time to go home. We had a morning flight so left the hotel before we even were able to eat breakfast at the hotel . We got up early and headed out to the train station to catch a train to the airport for our flights to Lisbon. We felt sad to be leaving the land of croissants, crepes, and culture, but excited to explore our next city.

While in Paris you will have the choice between two activities. First, you can choose to visit the awe-inspiring Sacré-Coeur Basilica, the second highest point of the city after the Eiffel Tower, and enjoy free time to explore the area. Or, you can choose to Learn about the neighborhood’s famous artists and writers at the Musée de Montmartre, a historic 17th century house that gives you a glimpse into the artistic side of town

Prolong your stay in the French capital with a 2-night hosted post extension. Step back in time during a locally guided walking tour centered on the French Revolution, enjoy a full day at leisure to explore Paris as you please, indulge in the local cuisine during an included dinner at a local Brasserie and slide into the backseat of a vintage retro car to cruise along chic boulevards peering up at the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe from the car’s open roof.

  • Paris - Extension Begins
  • This morning, step back in time during a walking tour centered on the French Revolution. Your expert guide evokes the shadows of Marie Antoinette and Robespierre as you journey back to the tumultuous years of 1789-1799. Visit landmarks such as Place de la Bastille (where the infamous prison once stood) and Place de la Concorde where the revolutionary government erected a guillotine in the square (and where King Louis XVI was executed on 21 January 1793). The afternoon is yours to explore more of the French capital independently. Perhaps you’ll stroll through the Beaubourg neighborhood and take in the whimsical moving fountain of the Centre Pompidou for Contemporary Art. Dedicated to the former French President Georges Pompidou, this building represents the first major example of 'inside-out' architecture with its structural, mechanical and circulation systems exposed on the exterior of the building. Today this eclectic building synthetizes the blend of tradition and innovation that distinguishes Paris.
  • The day is yours to explore more of the French capital on your own. Perhaps you’ll wander over to the Left Bank of the Seine River and plunge into the bohemian atmosphere of the Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighborhood and the Latin Quarter. Or visit one of the city’s iconic museums, such as the highly acclaimed Musée D’Orsay. The former railroad station now houses some of the world’s best impressionist art. This evening, celebrate the end of your extended stay in Paris with dinner in a local brasserie* before sliding into the backseat of a vintage retro car, cruising through the chic boulevards and peering up at the Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe from the car’s open roof.
  • Paris - Depart for Home
  • Wish France adieu as you return home.

Live the Parisian life in style as you join your Tour Manager on a captivating excursion to the Opera District. Take advantage of an immersive experience with Parisian luxury and peruse famous name brand stores to embrace the glam of haute couture fashion. Pass by the stunning opera house of Palais Garnier before getting a glimpse into the history of perfume making at Fragonard Museum. Indulge your senses and scan the ancient artisan bottles, learning about the art of creating the perfect scent. A specialist will help you choose your own cologne, providing an irreplaceable souvenir from your Parisian getaway. Continue on to the famous Galeries Lafayette – a well-known French department store that features a mesmerizing stained glass dome. You might even be able to get a closer look at the dome on the glass skywalk, which reaches out directly below the center of the dome. Cap off the adventure with a trip to the rooftop to admire the city from above. With a drink in hand, marvel at the breathtaking views of the Opera House & Eiffel tower. Enjoy free time to explore the neighborhood and shop before heading back to the hotel by metro.

Join us for a spectacular evening in one of Paris’s most beloved institutions, the famous Paradis Latin. Situated in a building associated with Napoleon and rebuilt by Gustav Eiffel himself, the Paradis has been running here since 1889. Enjoy a sumptuous dinner with wine, then bring on the champagne and let the show commence!

Take a walk down to the Ile de la Cité to snap a picture of the façade of the awe-inspiring Notre Dame.

15 Amazing Things to do in Paris with Tweens, Teens, and Kids

' src=

Paris is an amazing city and there are plenty of activities that are fun for both kids and adults. We first visited Paris as a family when our twins were two year old and loved wandering around and exploring the Louvre. More recently we spent time in Paris with our now teenage twins and tween and they all loved this city.

Below you can find our suggestions of what to do in Paris with tweens, teens and kids.

Chasing ADVNTR is an affiliate, some of the links on this page are affiliate links and we will earn a small commission if you purchase something on this page.

Quick Look at the Best Things to do in Paris with Tweens, Teens and Kids

What to know about visiting paris with teens, tweens and kids, how many days do you need in paris with kids and teens.

If you are exploring Paris with kids or teens, you need at least 3 days and ideally 5 days. This gives you time to see the main sites and time to relax and have some down time throughout the day. It is possible to spend a single day in Paris to get the feel for the city, but this will just give you a snapshot of this amazing city.

Is Paris good with Kids and Teens?

Paris is a great city to visit with kids and is one of our favorite cities in the world. We’ve explored many cities around the world with out teens and kids and my 14 year old daughter is absolutely in love with Paris. Our most recent visit has even inspired her to take French this year. Our favorite thing about Paris is that the best things to do with kids are also fun for adults making everyone happy!

When is the Best Time to Visit Paris with Tweens, Teens and Kids

Paris is a great city to visit all year long, the best time with visit is during the warm months and the holiday season. Summer can get busy and crowded, so if you can visit during the shoulder seasons (May, June, September, October) you will get the best weather and lowest crowds. The holiday season is also beautiful when the city is all decked out for Christmas and the New Years.

Where is the Best Place to Stay in Paris with Tweens, Teens and Kids

Paris has many amazing places to stay. You can search for the best options on a site like booking.com or tripadvisor.com . Note that many Paris hotels are small and don’t cater to large families – we like to use Booking because if often has options for apartments that fit our family of 5. A few of our favorites are:

  • Chouchou Hotel
  • Hotel Monge
  • Hôtel Moderniste

Getting Around Paris with Kids

Paris is a large city, and while walking around Paris is a great activity with kids , at some point you will need to take another form of transportation. Some of the best ways to get around the city are the Metro, city bus, and taxis. As you begin to plan your itinerary and where to stay, try to keep the transportation options in mind.

15 Things to do in Paris with Tweens, Teens and Kids

Below are a list of 15 activities to do in Paris with tweens, teens and kids with links to learn more and purchase tickets. We love to pack our days full of activities, but in Paris there is a benefit to giving yourself extra time. We loved being able to sit on a bench along the river, or stop for a street performer without the pressure of keeping to a strict schedule.

tweeny tours paris 2023

The Eiffel Tower is one of the most iconic buildings in the world and a must see in your visiting Paris with kids. The classic way to see the Eiffel Tower is to take a tour up into the structure. You can either get up tower in an elevator or by taking the stairs. If you are up for it, the stairs are often less crowded and fun for kids.

You will want to book your  ticket in advance .

When visiting the Eiffel Tower with kids, another fun thing to do is to have a picnic in the park around the tower. Pack some bread, cheese, and fruit and sit out on the lawn or a park bench. You will also find food carts in the park or nearby and can grab some food at one of these before enjoying the park and view.

One of the best ways to get your kids excited for exploring Paris is to turn it into a scavenger hunt . We’ve used this book series in several different cities and have found so many interesting things. The book has small scavenger hunts for the different sites. We love this option as you can do the hunt at your own space and it can be a fun adventure for both kids and adults.

At the moment, Notre Dame is currently under construction after the recent fire. When the building is open, this is a fun place to explore, and even now there is an interesting art display outside the construction zone. Explore this incredible and intricate church.

On our first day in Paris we walked well over 10 miles. We were just starting to get tired and cranky, and happily boarded the board for our Seine River cruise. There are several different tours, but we did one of the shorter cruises and enjoyed seeing the main sites all while seated on a boat. The tour was engaging and interesting and our kids enjoyed the trip.

France is famous for its food and kids and teens will love learning more about the local culture and eating delicious food. A fun way to do this is to take a cooking class or a guided food tour.

This tour includes a visit to some of the markets or you can check out this cooking class where you can learn to make macrons or learn to make crepes .

Paris with Tweens, Teens, and Kids

This is a creepy part of Paris. Under the streets of Paris, a labyrinth of tunnels is the final resting spot of over 6 million Parisians. You can book your  tickets online directly , or join a  guided tour  so you can skip the lines. Older kids in particular enjoy exploring the underground side to the city.

If your kids are sports fans, watching a PSG Football (soccer) game is a great way to spend your time in Paris. Check out the PSG official page for the schedule and to book your tickets. The stadium is about a 30 minute drive from the center of Paris and seats almost 50,000 people.

Paris with Tweens, Teens, and Kids

Walk this famous street in Paris and check out some of the high end shops. This famous (and beautiful) road runs from the Arc De Triomphe to the Place de la Concorde and even if you don’t want to shop, the window displays in these stores are a thing of art. Our tween and teens loved people watching on this road and we walked sections of the street almost every day we were in Paris.

Kids love to take photos and share them. Check out this Instagram photo tour of Paris. This self guided tour lets you go at your own pace, but takes you to some of the fun an photogenic sites in Paris. Leave the city with some amazing photos!

Visiting an art museum is an absolute must when you visit Paris. There are so many art museums. We love the famous Louvre and Musee d’Orsay. Many of these museums have guided tours or self guided tours for kids. Even when our kids were very young, they still enjoyed visiting the Louvre.

  • Musee d’Orsay
  • The Centre Pompidou
  • Petit Palais
  • Picasso Museum
  • Musée des Arts Décoratifs
  • Rodin Museum
  • Musée Marmottan-Monet

tweeny tours paris 2023

Montemarte is an chic and beautiful neighborhood to explore in Paris. Full of small shops, cafes, and cobblestone streets with view out across Paris, this is a great place to wander with kids. My teens loved exploring these streets. Give yourself plenty of time to walk around this part of Paris

Paris with Tweens, Teens, and Kids

Located a bit outside the city, this incredible site include beautiful grounds, intricate buildings and an impressive art collection. You can either take the train out to Versailles, or join a tour that will pick you up at your hotel.

Stop at a Café

There are so many cafes in Paris that you could simply spend an entire day walking from café to café. Stop in the morning for a coffee and pastry, stop in the afternoon for a soft drink, and end the day with a treat and a lemonade or hot coco. My teens loved sitting at a cafe in the afternoon and watching people go about their business.

Paris with Tweens, Teens, and Kids

Arc De Triomphe

Located at one end of the Champs-Elysses, the Arc de Triomphe is the center of 12 streets that come together in a giant traffic circle. Climb to the top of the Arc, or take the elevator for excellent views out across the city. You can book your tickets in advance. The tomb of the unnamed soldier sits at the base of the Arc and the eternal flame is reignited at 6:30 every day.

Paris with Tweens, Teens, and Kids: Eiffel Tower

For kids and teens, one of the best ways to see the city and learn a little more is to take a guided tour. There are many different types of tours and you can choose something fun for your groups. Consider some of the following options:

  • Segway Tour
  • Walking Tour
  • Tour of the City Murals

A Note about Disney Paris

Disney Paris often makes the list of the best places to visit in Paris with kids. While I agree that Disney Paris is a fun place to go as a family – it is not a ‘Paris’ experience. We visited when our twins were young, but if you are looking for an authentic French or Parisian experience, stick with some of the suggestions above!

I was very pleased with all aspects of my trip ie. hotel, tour guides and transportation provides for the excursions as well as my driver to the airport on my date of departure. My only compliant is with the transportation from the airport on the date of my arrival since he left because I wasn’t able to make it to the arrival lounge within an hour for meetup because of the time it took from departing the plane, going through customs and waiting on my baggage. The driver did try to contact me but it was over WhatsApp and do t receive notifications since I rarely if ever use that app and Eskapas didn’t let me know to expect communications through that app. Other than the initial dissatisfaction with that and having to get other transportation as well as an added expense for an Uber I was very satisfied with the rest of the experience.

What people love about Paris Tours

It was a very comfortable and enjoyable cruise. The service staff were very friendly and attentive. The fellow passengers were very friendly and sociable which makes the whole cruise line one big happy family.
It was a really good experience. This is my second trip with Eskapas. The first one was a small group tour fully escorted in Italy and it was wonderful. This trip is independent and you are joining at the meeting point to daily group ours. If you have send of orientation, it may be difficult so I recommend yo to take a taxi to reach out to the meeting points. Usually it costs 15-20Euro. The company upgraded our hotel to New Hotel Le Voltaire 4* ,, located in 11th Arrondissement, close to Bastille. It is a correct one, decent breakfast. Don't miss Cimetiere du Pere-Lachaise which is close proximity.
