Considered best all over the Europe, Lisbon is well known for its nightlife. The Bairro Alto district and surrounding area are considered one of the two biggest hot spots for nightlife in Lisbon, with more than 100 bars and restaurants in a small neighborhood. Keep in mind that there are two locations, so choose the one that better suits you. Tasca do Chico in Bairro Alto is perhaps a bit more livelily, but that means it’s more crowded too. Tasca do Chico in Alfama offers a more personal touch. Either way, get ready for a moving night of hauntingly beautiful singing and plenty of wine. Cerveteca Lisboa

Cerveteca Lisboa is an airy craft beer bar and shops in Principe Real that’s simply decorated: just wood, marble, and several cozy nooks. The array of bottles creates an engaging backdrop. The beers rotate; every week, a new roster of bottles highlights from the stash of more than 100 varieties, and the 14 taps change several times a day. The owners are passionate about both Portuguese and imported brews, and highlight such producers as Lisbon’s own Dois Corvos and To from Denmark.

Lisbon is especially beautiful from above, and this bar, crowning a Bairro Alto parking garage, provides rapturous views. Outside, in a magical urban garden setting lush with greenery, there is crate-like patio furniture. Inside, there is a lodge-like feel with lots of wood, vintage-style chairs, and dangling white pendants. You are here for the distinctive, surprising setting, not the thought-provoking mixology, so kick back with a straightforward, breezy Mojito or margarita.

Cinco Lounge

Low-lit and polished, Cinco is the essence of a lounge: quiet enough to chat, comfortable enough to stretch out on a pillow-accentuated banquette, and sexy enough to linger over cocktails on a date. Located in lively Príncipe Real, a wood floor and hues of green and blue provide warmth, while the glass tables and curtains shrouding floor-to-ceiling windows lend an elegant, mysterious aura. Nice cocktails – along with wine and non-boozy quaffs – have made Cinco a local favorite for 15 years. The classics are always on point here, as are the more playful drinks.

Pensão Amor

Set in a former brothel in the red light district – the name translates roughly to “pension of love” – Pensão Amor still bears the imprint of its bordello roots, what with the red wallpaper and ceiling graced with images of cavorting naked men. The bar’s jumbled array of photographs – many of them fittingly seductive – and tchotchkes create a kitschy element, balanced by chandeliers, drapes, and velvety tufted chairs. The menu consists of classics like the French 75 and Boulevardier, as well as original cocktails like the Bing Qing, made with ginseng tea – infused Beefeater 24 gin, ginger, and lychee.

By the Wine

By the Wine’s arched ceiling is unquestionably its most striking design feature: row after row of green-glass wine bottles that reinforce the raison d’être of this bar in the trendy Chiado neighborhood, which belongs to the winemaking empire José Maria da Fonseca. As its name implies, wines by the glass – all from Portugal – are the name of the game here. There are also plenty of bottles. Try wines like Domini from the Douro and Puro Talha from the Alentejo. The Wine Cellar

The Wine Cellar, a Cais do Sodré neighborhood joint, is a huge hit with locals who love wine paired with elevated twists on Portuguese cooking. The expansive wine list reads like who’s-who of Portuguese producers. Reasonable prices make it easy to experiment – you could spend your night tasting your way through such producers as Vértice, Dona Paterna, and Quinta da Leda. The food here is as much a draw as the wine; try the tuna loin with sweet potato or rump steak with port sauce.

Rio Maravilha

No matter how many times you go up to the terrace at Rio Maravilha, the view will make your chin drop. The place has always been known for its relaxed mood, fit for dancing or drinking; now, it’s new kitchen brigade presents a strong cocktail and snacks menu served outdoors. You can have a brandy sour with grapefruit and coriander to go with pork cheeks and smoked cottage cheese, or a raspberry and pop rocks margarita to go with sweet potato chips.

The team behind beloved seaside Sal Restaurante in Comporta has finally opened Bota Sal, a more youthful Lisbon offshoot in the Estrela district. Lined with seafoam green corrugated metal walls and weathered wood chairs, space channels its salty older sibling while delivering a more modern take on maritime cuisine. Try the sirloin steak, which comes with a house-made sauce and French fries; there is also an octopus salad, deep-water rose shrimp from the Algarve, and cuttlefish with bacon strips and coriander. For dessert, go for the lavender-infused milk custard.

The Food Temple

The nourishing dishes at this temple to vegetarian cooking in the up-and-coming Mouraria district go a long way in undoing a weekend of indulgences. The Food Temple, Lisbon’s altar of vegetarian food, is located on a silent street in the slowly (but steadily) up-and-coming Mouraria district. Outside, there is seating and sufficient of tables; inside, the intimate, bohemian-chic space is marked by a colorful chalkboard menu and a kitchen draped with Nepali prayer flags. A small menu changes regularly, but it is always got hearty vegetarian soups, tapas, and mains, including warm quinoa salad with pistachios and goji berries and homemade polenta with artichokes and mushrooms.

It’s worth the inevitable wait for a seat at Boa-Bao, a popular restaurant in Chiado where the menu reads like a love letter to Asian flavors and recipes, from Japan to Laos. The eclectic food includes wok stir-fries, spicy soups, and an entire section devoted to the ever-popular gua-bao, or Taiwanese steamed buns (opt for the Peking duck, stuffed with hoisin, cucumber, and spring onion). An expansive selection of curries lets you compare and contrast those from different countries, including Malaysia and Thailand.

Located in the Altis Belem Hotel, the glamorous, Michelin-starred Feitoria is a destination in itself. Sure, there is an epic view of the river, but it is the gold-leafed panel (a replica of one at the National Museum of Ancient Art) that commands all the attention. The menu leans heavily on produce – Kombu, turnip, and smoked-beetroot or pigeon, cherries, and foie gras – with the chefs transforming ingredients into edible works of art. The restaurant also runs a visiting-chef program with talent from around the world.

Best Nightclub in Lisbon

The Portuguese capital is full of places to have great fun-nights. Clubs are plentiful and very busy for a little city compared to other European capitals. Nightclubs are mainly located in three districts: Alcântara (on the docks and in the area), Cais do Sodré (around Nova do Carvalho Street and on the docks) and Santos (on the docks and in the district around Avenida 24 de Julho). There are so many great things to do in Lisbon at night, whether you love dancing or prefer laid-back socializing with a few close friends. Multicultural, artistic, and progressive, it is possible for anyone to find fun things to do. Here are some of our recommended night-time haunts and activities:

Ministerium Club

Opened in 2012, the Ministerium Club is located on the Praça do Comércio, in the former premises of the Portuguese Minister of Finances, hence the noun of the club. Many worldwide known DJs have already played their music in that nightclub such as Ricardo Villalobos, Carl Craig, Maya Jane Coles or Miss Kittin. Obviously, famous Portuguese mixmasters also come to this nightclub. Be careful, you should be stylish and sleek if you want to go inside! The bouncers are known to be harsh and very exigent.

LUX – The staple of Lisbon

One of the well-known nightclubs in Lisbon for many years, you must probably have already heard about his club without having gone to Lisbon. Located on the docks of Santa Apolónia, the terraces of the nightclub provide a beautiful view of the Tagus. National and international DJs and artists with different musical styles performed at the Lux. Beware, it is very hard to go inside, especially during the evenings of a rush. Make sure to be well-dressed and no to come only with men.

Lust in Rio

Lust in Rio is a multi-purpose establishment, located on the docks of Cais do Sodré. On the first floor, you will find the SushiRio restaurant, with a modern and eclectic decoration. On the terrace, there is an amazing view of the Tagus and you will be served traditional and fusion Sushis. Every evening, the program is different from DJs, instigators, and themes that change all over the year.

The Docks Club

Located in the former warehouses of the docks of Alcântara, the Docks Club exists for many years and has always been successful. Very busy by the Angolan community (except on Tuesday), it is a perfect place to dance on African kinds of music such as Kizomba, samba or African-house. The program also plans hip hop and R&B. The inevitable and very busy Ladies Nights take place on Tuesday nights.

Barrio Latino

The Barrio Latino was in the district of Parque das Nações but has recently moved to the docks of Santos. This is one the reference nightclubs in Lisbon if you want to dance on kizomba, salsa, other Latin kinds of music or African rhythms. So this nightclub is an absolute and right place for you.

This highly regarded live music venue champions the alternative music scene and regularly hosts local bands as well as more established World Music acts and visiting DJs. True to form, the club tends not to advertise itself and the frontage set under a bridge in the city’s Cais do Sodre district is totally bereft of signage or neon. Ask a local for directions, or check the numerous flyers posted up on nearby walls. Having spent over four years living in Lisbon, near Martim Moniz, I’ve developed a keen sense of the city’s dynamic nightlife. 

This experience has inspired me to craft this article which I’ve broken down into different sections to suit your personal taste for any given evening.

What to do in Lisbon at Night

Cultural immersion, fado music experience in bairro alto .

In Bairro Alto, Tasca do Chico is a must-visit for an authentic Fado experience. The place is a popular spot, often with a long queue, but it’s worth the wait.

Once inside, expect a cozy, somewhat cramped space. You might start off standing at the bar, but as tables open up, you’ll likely get a seat. 

The drink prices are reasonable, neither cheap nor too expensive.

The food menu is limited, mostly tapas, with basic vegan options like bread and olives. Eating beforehand is a good idea if you have specific dietary needs.

The Fado performance is the real draw. The intimate setting allows for an up-close experience with the musicians. 

You’ll hear both male and female singers, each performing about three songs with breaks in between. 

The emotional depth of their performances is what makes a night at Tasca do Chico memorable.

Nighttime Tour

Lisbon’s nightlife creates a magical backdrop for nighttime walking tours. A highlight is visiting the Pantheon, also known as the Church of Santa Engrácia. This 17th-century monument, once a church, now serves as the final resting place for notable Portuguese figures.

As you enter, you’re greeted by geometric marble floors with gold accents and massive ancient stone slabs. 

The view from the top is a breathtaking panorama of Lisbon at night, offering one of the city’s highest vantage points. 

You’ll see the 16th-century area and the city’s skyline, which is particularly stunning at night, with the city lights twinkling like stars.

Tuk Tuk Tour

If walking isn’t your preference, consider the highly rated Historical Vintage Tuk Tuk Tour. The last booking is at 18:30, and it lasts for two hours. 

This tour takes you through some of Lisbon’s oldest and most characteristic neighborhoods, including the narrow streets of Bairro Alto. 

You’ll ride up to São Jorge Castle, wander through the ancient Alfama district, and feel the unique atmosphere of the Graça district, the city’s highest point. The tour also includes the bustling Chiado shopping area.

Along the way, you’ll see significant landmarks like Lisbon Cathedral and Santo António Church, the birthplace of Saint Anthony. 

Visit the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora, a prime example of Mannerist architecture, and enjoy the views from the São Pedro de Alcântara lookout. 

The tour concludes with a visit to the Baroque Estrella Basilica, commissioned by Queen Maria I in honor of her son’s birth.

Gastronomic Adventures

Night markets and local seafood cuisine .

You might find a lot of guides suggesting the Time Out Market, and while it’s not a bad spot, Lisbon is brimming with incredible restaurants that, in my opinion, offer a more authentic experience. 

The Time Out Market can feel a bit too touristy, almost like a large canteen, and the food options there don’t always showcase the best of what Lisbon has to offer.

While the Time Out Market is worth a visit if you haven’t been there yet, I’d highly recommend delving into Lisbon’s renowned seafood scene for a more authentic culinary experience. 

A standout choice, and one even praised by Anthony Bourdain , is the famous Ramiro. This spot truly captures the essence of Lisbon’s seafood offerings and is a personal favorite of mine.

This place is all about the lively atmosphere, speedy and friendly service, and while the prices are a bit on the higher side for Lisbon, they’re absolutely worth it by European standards.

When you’re there, don’t miss out on the garlic prawns, garlic butter king langoustine, and percebes. 

And here’s a quirky tip: try the steak sandwich as a dessert. Yes, you heard that right – it’s a Lisbon thing!

If you happen to visit on a busy day, be prepared for some waiting time. But don’t worry, there’s a bar area where you can grab a drink and relax. 

They also have a pretty efficient ticketing system, so you’ll have a clear idea of how long the wait will be. It’s all part of the experience!

Trendy & Good Value Dining in Alfama

Alfama is brimming with dining options, but one hidden gem that really stands out is Agulha no Palheiro, or ‘Needle in a Haystack’ in English. 

True to its name, this spot is a well-kept secret, often overlooked yet highly praised with an impressive number of positive reviews. 

I had the pleasure of dining here with my girlfriend a few months back and can personally attest to its quality and exceptional service. 

They serve up some fantastic traditional Portuguese dishes, and their cocktails are a must-try. 

Just a heads-up, it’s wise to book in advance as the restaurant has only five or six tables, making it an intimate and sought-after dining experience.

Tapas and Wine Tasting Session

If you’re looking for a lively spot to enjoy some wine and tasty small plates, Vino Vero is a great option. 

They’ve got an extensive selection of natural wines that’ll impress any wine enthusiast, and their menu caters wonderfully to both vegetarians and meat lovers. 

The real charm of Vino Vero comes alive on Friday and Saturday evenings when the terrace area buzzes with energy, creating a fantastic atmosphere. 

It’s a popular spot, especially on weekends, so making a reservation in advance is a smart move to ensure you get a spot.

The Best Pizza in Lisbon

Right next to Vino Vero, you’ll find La Matta Pizzeria, home to what I believe is the best pizza in Lisbon. 

They whip up traditional Sicilian thin-crust pizzas with generous toppings that are simply irresistible. 

The service is top-notch – easily some of the best in Lisbon, with attentive staff who are always on hand to refill your drinks.

I had the Boscaiola pizza there, a delightful combination of Tomato San Marzano, Mozzarella fiordilatte, wild mushrooms, La Matta’s homemade sausage, and fresh parsley. 

And for beer enthusiasts, I recommend trying the Sicilian Ichnusa Beer – it’s creamy, light, and refreshingly different. My new favorite!

Given its popularity, La Matta can get busy, so booking ahead or arriving early is wise to avoid a 30-minute wait. 

They’re also on UberEats, perfect for those stay-at-home pizza nights.

⭐️ Insider Tip : If you fancy a stunning view with your meal, consider getting your pizza to take out and walking over to Miradouro da Senhora do Monte. It’s only a 4 minute walk (uphill) and is arguably the best viewpoint in Lisbon, offering a breathtaking backdrop for enjoying your pizza.

Indian Cuisine Adventure

I absolutely have to give a shout-out to my favorite Indian restaurant in Lisbon – Kerala. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been there, but it never fails to impress. 

The owners are incredibly warm and welcoming, which really reflects in the top-notch service you receive.

The food at Kerala is something else – it’s the best traditional South Indian cuisine I’ve found in Lisbon. Every dish is a flavor journey, and it’s always a satisfying experience.

If you’re in the mood for a lively and spirited night out, Pink Street is your go-to destination in Lisbon. Known for its iconic pink-colored pavement, Pink Street is more than just a street – it’s a bustling hub of nightlife and entertainment. 

This area is famous for its dynamic atmosphere and is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience Lisbon’s vibrant night scene. 

Pink Street is lined with various bars and clubs, but one standout venue I’d really recommend checking out is Pensão Amor.  Located in what used to be a brothel in the red light district, its name translates to “pension of love,” and it certainly retains the character of its past. 

The decor is a fascinating mix of its bordello heritage, complete with red wallpaper and ceilings adorned with images of frolicking naked men.

The bar is an eclectic blend of seductive photographs, quirky trinkets, elegant chandeliers, draped fabrics, and plush velvety chairs, creating a unique and memorable ambiance.

Pub Crawl through Bairro Alto

Besides Pink Street, another hotspot in Lisbon is Bairro Alto, especially on weekends and during special events or festivals. 

This area buzzes with an incredible party vibe. For solo travelers or those keen to meet new people, joining a pub crawl in Bairro Alto is a fantastic idea. 

This neighborhood is renowned for its vibrant nightlife and charming, winding streets. It’s an experience that speaks for itself! 🙂

Sipping Ginjinha in Baixa

I recently had the chance to visit A Ginjinha bar in Baixa, and it was an experience I’d highly recommend for anyone wanting to taste the famous local cherry liqueur. 

The queues can be long, but don’t worry about the line, the staff are incredibly efficient, the short wait is absolutely worth it. 

If you’re in a larger group, say 6-8 people, consider getting the 1-liter bottle – it’s a great deal and super affordable.

Just remember to bring cash, but it won’t set you back much – I paid €1.50 for a shot. 

And a word of caution – if you decide to eat the cherry in the drink, be prepared; it’s strong but delicious.

Casa Independente

This spot near Anjos Metro is one of my favorite bars and clubs, thanks to interesting variety of events, quirky interior and ample space, both indoors and outdoors. 

There are several rooms to discover inside, each with its own unique vibe.

Unique Night Experiences

Upon first moving to Lisbon, I decided to try out the much-talked-about sunset cruise, and I’m happy to report that it absolutely lived up to its glowing reviews. 

The cruise lasted for two hours, during which the staff were incredibly friendly and the sunset views were truly breathtaking. 

The only minor drawback was that the beverage options were limited to just beer and white wine. You can check availability below. 

Enjoy Sunset Views from Key Locations

In my opinion, the best viewpoint in Lisbon is Miradouro da Senhora do Monte. It offers a stunning panoramic view of downtown Lisbon, the Tagus River, and The 25 de Abril Bridge. 

It’s also a great spot to watch planes flying into the airport. 

Often, you’ll find live music playing, and there’s a bar nearby to grab a drink. 

As I mentioned before, grabbing a pizza from La Matta or having it delivered via Uber Eats makes for a perfect sunset evening at this spot.

Other viewpoints worth checking out include Miradouro de Santa Luzia, Miradouro de Graça, and Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara. 

Tejo Bar in Alfama is the perfect choice for an evening that’s both relaxed and uniquely captivating. Known for its excellent jazz, folk, and gypsy music, this cozy venue promises an unforgettable experience. 

However, due to its small size, be ready to wait in line if you visit on a weekend, especially later in the evening. The wait is definitely worth it for the intimate and magical atmosphere you’ll find inside.

This venue is a hidden gem in Lisbon, where the focus is truly on the art. 

Conversations are saved for the intervals, allowing the music to take center stage. 

I’ve been visiting Tejo Bar for years, and it never fails to surprise with its spontaneous and enchanting performances. 

Musicians, sometimes even famous ones incognito, gather here to share their passion, often using instruments from the walls or bringing their own. They sometimes even encourage audience participation.

Remember, clapping isn’t the norm here. Instead, appreciation is shown in more subtle ways, adding to the unique charm of Tejo Bar. 

It’s a place where the soul of Lisbon’s music scene truly comes to life, offering a truly unforgettable night!

Relaxing Night Activities

Evening spa experiences.

I took my girlfriend for a massage at Eco Massage Lisbon after reading the reviews and seeing the high Google rating. 

I have to say, I wasn’t disappointed with the experience. We went to the branch in the city center, and while the massage rooms were quite small, I was really pleased with everything else. 

Upon arrival, we were offered tea, asked to take off our shoes, and enjoyed the calming music and gentle scent. I paid €40 for a 1-hour deep tissue massage, which was great value. 

My girlfriend had a nice experience too, despite the masseuse giving her a head massage and turning her beautiful long blonde hair into one big dreadlock!   

So, if you have long hair and don’t want a dreadlock, give the masseuse a heads-up beforehand 🙂

As I’ve mentioned earlier my personal favorite spot for nighttime photography in Lisbon has to be Miradouro Senhora do Monte. 

It offers an incredible panoramic view of the city, where to the left, you can see the Church of Graça and the Castle, with houses cascading down the hillside.

In the distance, the river and the Tagus estuary shimmer, casting a luminous glow over the rooftops in Baixa, the ruins of Carmo, and the pastel hues of Avenidas Novas. 

The bridge in the backdrop, along with planes flying into Aeroporto de Lisboa, adds to the scene. 

On a dark night, the combined lights of the bridge, planes, and houses create a stunningly lit environment.

• Cine Bela Vista: A vintage cinematic experience dating back to 1943 in Sete Rios. This open-air cinema blends old-world charm with a mix of Portuguese classics and international favorites, offering a nostalgic movie experience under the stars.
• Black Cat Cinema : In central Lisbon, this outdoor cinema is known for its selection of classic, independent, and cult films. Its intimate setting with cozy, vintage decor offers a unique movie-watching experience under the night sky.
• Estrela Garden (Cine-Estrela) : Set amidst nature, this cinema in Estrela Garden is perfect for a tranquil movie night. Surrounded by trees and flowers, it screens feel-good and family-friendly movies, ideal for picnics and moonlit cinematic enjoyment.

If you’re in Lisbon around June 12, I highly recommend experiencing the Feast of Santo António. The historic neighborhoods of Alfama, Castelo, Bica, Bairro Alto, and Madragoa come alive with music, dance, and the irresistible aromas of grilled sardines, complemented by wine and beer. These local street parties, known as arraiais, are Lisbon’s most vibrant and exciting celebrations. 

Starting at 9pm, Avenida da Liberdade becomes a spectacle of dancers and music, hosting a parade where Lisbon’s traditional neighborhoods showcase their meticulously prepared choreographies in a friendly competition. 

These celebrations continue throughout the night until sunrise, with the entire city coming together in a joyous and lively atmosphere. The next day is a public holiday in Lisbon, allowing everyone to rest and reflect on the night’s festivities.

I definitely suggest renting an e-scooter for exploring Lisbon if you can. My go-to choice is always Whoosh. They seem to have the best suspension, which is a real advantage on the city’s uneven roads and cobbled streets. Plus, they’re quite affordable – you can get one for the entire day for just €5. It’s a convenient and fun way to see the city at night.

⭐️ Insider Tip: Consider renting an e-scooter in the heart of Lisbon and take a ride along the Tagus River. It’s especially beautiful in the early evening and at night when the area is illuminated with bright lights, creating a picturesque setting for your journey.

Dining on Rua da Silva

Green Street Lisbon, nestled in the city’s downtown, is a picturesque and serene alley. This charming walkway, adorned with plants and flanked by old buildings and quaint shops, offers a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle. It’s a treasure trove of unique local stores and a diverse array of international cuisine.

One standout spot on Green Street is Mambo, an African restaurant that’s perfect for either lunch or dinner. Located in the vibrant Rua da Silva, Mambo serves up an authentic and enjoyable African dining experience. 

The atmosphere is warm and inviting, thanks to the friendly staff who ensure every guest feels welcome. The flavors are genuinely Senegalese, offering a solid and memorable culinary journey.

A must-try is the Yassa chicken meal – a tender, savory chicken leg that practically melts in your mouth, served in a hearty and flavorful broth. For those seeking plant-based options, Mambo also offers popular vegan dishes.

St. George’s Castle, sat atop the highest hill in the city of Lisbon, is a must-see at any time of day. But come night, it’s an experience in itself. 

The lights give the ancient structures an ethereal glow, creating a magical, otherworldly atmosphere that you wouldn’t find during the day. Plus, the city’s twinkling nightscape stretching out beneath you? It’s absolutely mesmerising!

The castle’s history stretches back over 2000 years, and wandering its moonlit courtyards, you’ll get a sense of the numerous cultures that have left their mark on it. From Romans to Visigoths to Moors, it’s like an open history book. 

The best bit? It’s not as packed with tourists as during the day, so you might even get a bit of serenity thrown in with your history lesson. 

2) Explore Bairro Alto

Lisbon nightlife wouldn’t be complete without a visit to its most famous neighbourhood, Bairro Alto. 

During the day, it’s pretty quiet and unassuming – just another serene Lisbon neighborhood with narrow streets and tiled houses. But at night, it transforms into a buzzing hub of activity.

With some of the best bars in the city spilling out onto the streets, musicians playing live music and people gathering in groups chatting and laughing – the atmosphere is infectious, and you’ll find yourself drawn into the energy of it all.

For a unique dining experience, head to the  Time Out Market   in the Cais do Sodré neighborhood. This fantastic food hall features over 40 different restaurants, bars and cafes offering a variety of dishes from traditional Portuguese cuisine to international delights.

I recommend taking a stroll around first before you settle on the food you want – that way you can make sure you get a taste of everything! 

8) River Cruise on the Tagus River

One of the best ways to explore Lisbon by night is to hop on a sailboat tour along the Tagus River, the lifeblood of the city. The cityscape is a treat at night, with the city’s most beautiful landmarks all lit up. 

Whether it’s the illuminated silhouette of the Belém Tower or the twinkling lights of the Ponte 25 de Abril (the bridge that looks like the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco), every view is a photo-worthy moment. A sailboat really is the perfect place to take it all in. 

My favourite part about  this tour  is when the captain put the sails up and we cruised along with the wind sipping wine – it was incredibly peaceful!

9) Attend a Live Concert

Live music venues such as Coliseu dos Recreios, Music Box or Teatro Nacional de São Carlos are always putting on some kind of live performances. 

The city is known for its lively music scene, with music genres ranging from traditional fado to modern indie rock to folk! 

You’ll also find theatre performances and comedy shows at certain venues. It’s a great activity to do on a night out in Lisbon. 

10) Discover the LX Factory

If you’re the sort who has an appetite for creativity even after sundown, then a jaunt to the LX Factory is just the ticket. 

Once a fabric production plant, this hipster haven is now a pulsating nerve center of artistic brilliance, bustling with quirky boutiques, avant-garde galleries showcasing local artists, and some of the best eateries you’ll find in the city. 

At night, the Factory lights up with live music, immersive performances, and a fun nightlife scene that has locals and wanderers alike humming its praises.

This is one thing I do in every city I visit. I find the guides are so passionate about their city and eager to share their knowledge with you.

The  Guru Lisbon Night Tour  takes place each night from 5.30pm and lasts for 2.5 hours. Be sure to tip generously if you’re happy with your tour, as this is the main source of income for the guides.

You’ll get to see sights such as Lisbon Cathedral, São Jorge Castle and the charming neighbourhood of Alfama. It’s a great way to get your bearings in the city and learn about its history and culture.

18) Historical Tram Ride

If you haven’t already taken a tram ride in Lisbon (or even if you have), seeing Lisbon by night is a must-do experience. The iconic yellow trams are a symbol of the city and taking one at night adds an extra touch of magic.

The  Tram 28 route  is particularly popular and takes you through some of the oldest and most picturesque neighbourhoods in Lisbon. This includes the beautiful Alfama neighborhood, full of charm and character. 

Or you can take  Tram 15  which takes you through the Baixa district and down as far as Belem – it’s the best way to see Belem Tower at night. 

19) Drunken History Tour

A pub crawl with a twist, the  Drunken History Tour  takes you on a journey through Lisbon’s past as you explore some of its hidden bars and taverns. Your guide will regale you with entertaining stories and historical facts while you sample local drinks and traditional snacks.

Is Lisbon Safe at Night?

Despite its lively nightlife and bustling streets, Lisbon is generally a safe city at night. As with any destination, it’s important to take precautions and be aware of your surroundings, especially in areas with large crowds or late at night.

The most common crimes in Lisbon are pickpocketing and theft, so it’s important to keep an eye on your belongings and avoid carrying large amounts of cash or valuable items. It’s also recommended to take licensed taxis and avoid walking alone in dark or isolated areas.

However, the city is well-policed and there are many security cameras in public spaces. Lisbon has a low crime rate compared to other major European cities.

“High level of interest” in new Lisbon nightlife laws

Lisbon City Council received “around 150” contributions to the three proposals presented for public consultation to balance residents’ right to rest and night-time economic activity.

“Taking into account the number of contributions received (around 150 in total from the three proposals) and the meeting requests received, there is a high level of interest, higher than that recorded in other public consultations”, says Lisbon City Council ( CML ).

Based on a proposal from the CML, the new measures to “guarantee a balance between the right to rest and night-time economic activity”, including the ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages abroad from 01:00 in Bairro Alto, Bica, Cais do Sodré and Santos, were under public consultation for 30 days, a period that ended on Monday.

The creation of a time restriction zone for 11pm on Rua de São Paulo, applied only to establishments that do not comply with the urban requirements required for their economic activity, is another proposal.

It is also proposed to amend the Regulation on Opening Hours of Establishments for Sale to the Public and Provision of Services in the Municipality of Lisbon, so that establishments treated as convenience stores and that sell alcoholic beverages close at 10:00 pm and that the opening hours operating hours of terraces will be differentiated from establishments, with a limit of 24:00.

Considering that the deadline for presenting statements during public consultation ended two days ago, the CML considers it “premature” to carry out a complete analysis of the participatory process.

“All contributions will be carefully analysed and documented in a detailed report and only after analysing all the arguments and proposals presented will it be possible to assess which were the main concerns and which proposals should be included”, says the municipality.

Asked about the content of the “around 150” contributions received, the CML explains that the information provided by participants will now be categorised in the administrative phase following the public consultation process, at which point the type of contributions will be determined.

Regarding when the new measures will be discussed again by the council and when they are expected to come into force, the municipality indicates that “there is no established date at this time”.

“Scheduling will depend on the time needed to complete the analysis and consideration, with the hope that this period will be as short as possible”, he adds.

"Sceptical"

Residents and traders of Bairro Alto, a reference point for Lisbon's nightlife and which is facing a worsening of problems associated with nightlife, demand more supervision and are “a little skeptical” in relation to the council's proposals.

The sale and consumption of “a lot of alcohol” is a common concern for residents and traders in Bairro Alto, in the parish of Misericórdia, who warn about the existence of establishments operating as bars, but with licenses for tea houses, even though the Plan of Urbanization of Bairro Alto and Bica prohibits the opening of new bars.

From the perspective of the president of the Association of Residents of the Parish of Misericórdia, Luís Paisana, the ban on the sale of alcohol on public roads from 01:00 “is late”, the inspection “does not act as it should” and the law of zero licensing, which facilitates the opening of establishments, “should be limited or prohibited”.

Defending that the right to rest “is untouchable”, the president of the Bairro Alto Merchants Association, Hilário Castro, criticizes the existence of “brewers sponsoring this entire environment, because the more they sell the better”, and further complains that, After the establishments close, no one monitors or controls the streets.

Speaking to the Lusa agency, the president of the Portuguese Association of Restaurants, Bars, and Nightlife, Ricardo Tavares, argues that if the chamber's proposals move forward, layoffs and bankruptcies of establishments in the city will increase.

For the president of the Misericórdia Parish Council, Carla Madeira (PS), the council's proposals to balance residents' right to rest and night time economic activity are “a handful of nothing”, especially because for two years she has been asking for a ban on the sale of alcohol on the street from 01:00 and there was “not a single response” to this request.

The Black Crowes kick off tour in Nashville with high-energy show featuring Lainey Wilson

The Black Crowes' brothers Chris and Rich Robinson kicked off their 35-date "Happiness Bastards" tour Tuesday night at the Opry House in Nashville and introduced the crowd to arguably some of their best new music in decades backed up with a few classic favorites and choice cover tunes.

On a minimal set decorated only with strings of white lights, uniquely mismatched Marshall stacks, a life-size dressing room mirror, and a cardboard cutout of Chuck Berry peeking from behind the curtain, the Crowes gave the crowd exactly what they'd been hoping for: Chris' pipes of steel, Rich's excellent guitar chops and a surprise appearance by Lainey Wilson.

"If you're going to play the Grand Ole Opry, you have to bring out a bona fide country superstar," Chris told the crowd as he welcomed Wilson to the stage. She sang a duet from the new album called "Wilted Rose" and then stayed to back the brothers on a powerful version of "She Talks to Angels."

Chris danced and strutted across the stage in typical Black Crowes fashion, while his brother Rich focused on his guitar playing.

Kicking off the night at the packed-out Opry House despite looming severe weather Tuesday night were "Bedside Manners" and "Rats and Clowns" from the new album, "Happiness Bastards," which is the group's first original release in 15 years.

"It's been a little while since we've had some new songs to play for you all," Chris Robinson teased the crowd.

Next came an old favorite, "Twice as Hard" from the band's 1990 smash "Shake Your Money Maker." The band would layer in hits from that first album including "Remedy," "Jealous Again," and their biggest hit they didn't write, "Hard to Handle."

"A few years ago, we were lucky enough to have the idea to record this song," he said of "Hard to Handle." "Written by the greatest soul singer of all time from Macon, Georgia. His name was Otis Redding and we've been riding on this song for a long time."

The band seemed to enjoy performing the show as much as the crowd enjoyed watching it and dancing to it. The Crowes played for a solid 90 minutes before leaving the stage briefly to return for a one-song encore with Lou Reed's "White Light/White Heat."

It was a great way to kick off this new tour, which Chris Robinson said was not the first one they've started in Nashville.

"This marks two tours we've started in Nashville," he said. "Maybe this could become a thing."
