Cast and Catch Charters operates “Obsession”; A custom-built 24 Foot vessel built by sea prowler boats, it is in 2c survey for 6 passengers, comfortable fishing with 4, with the latest in technology specifically designed to couple comfortability with utility for the local experience of sport fishing the region has to offer.

Powered by two 150 EFI Mercury 4 strokes to get you quickly and safely to your fishing destination. Cast and Catch Fishing Charters make every effort to make your experience of a day's fishing with us as hassle-free as possible. Therefore we provide you with everything you need for a superior fishing experience by including all your bait and quality Shimano tackle, if you wish to use your own tackle, by all means, bring it along on the day.

Your comfort and safety are also important. Our vessel is equipped with all the mandatory safety equipment, sat phone for 24/7 communications, a private toilet, and cabin space. In addition to this, our tours provide lunch, morning and afternoon tea, fruit platters and water.

Unfortunately we don’t control the weather, if we did we’d be fishing everyday also please be aware coastal forecasts are not accurate representations of weather conditions off shore., regulations, we uphold all fishing regulations including all fish come back whole. this means nothing can be filleted on board by law..

Safety is important to us! If we feel something or SOMEONE will compromise it in any way, we maintain the right to deny passengers on board. This includes but is not limited to person/s who are intoxicated. For this reason you may bring alcohol but a limit of one 6 pack per person will be in effect.

Reef Fishing Charters

With numerous reef fish to catch as well, with some of the best eating and beautiful fish of all. Some of these species include the prized Coral Trout, Red Emporer, Redthroat Sweetlip, Nannygai, Numerous Cod species and heaps more. Even the Maori Wrasse and Barramundi cod, although now protected.

We can fish the outer reefs such as Credlin, Stevens and Coles Reef which are 120 Kilometres offshore, or the reefs surrounding the closer islands. With an outer reef fishing trip, the vessel departs at 6:30am and leaves at about 4pm, returning back to the marina by 6:30 pm, giving you a full day out on the reef, Dare you to compare our unbeatable value.

Outer or Inner Islands, depart at 7am and usually back by 6pm. With bottom bashing a popular option, this is where the braid come into full use. Normally a dropper rig with two hooks is the way to go.

With the freshest of bait, normally Squid, Pilchards and fresh flesh baits, you can’t go wrong.

Handy Fishing Tip: Don’t forget the wings, top bait and the bigger reef fish just love ‘em. Fresh Flesh as well, Coral Trout just cant help themselves.

Another Fishing Tip: put out a livebait on balloon, you never know what might cruise along, from a Spanish Mackeral, Cobia or Black Kingfish, Giant Trevally to a Bronze Whaler shark to give you a good workout.

Overnight Reef Fishing Trips

Same as our reef fishing trips, but sometimes one day isn’t enough, This gets you fishing longer, harder and further into the Great Barrier Reef.

Trips on demand, but will leave 6 am and return approx 6pm the night, end of the charter. Once again, destinations can be chosen, and could include Coles, Kindemar, Liff, Square, Creal Reef or many more.

We have been plying the waters off Mackay  on the Great Barrier Reef for 30 years and have discovered some of the world’s most amazing diving and snorkelling locations others have never experienced with the commercial group charter boat tours.

Our private charter boat tours are highly personalised and our speciality is catering for big family groups, fishing goups, corporate groups, dive clubs, groups of friends/ or families wanting to get away for a special occasion and to see the wonderful remote locations of the Great Barrier Reef off Mackay.  

Our minimum daily rate is based on 16 liveaboard guests and we can fully cater for up to 24 guests in our 12 comfortable cabins.

All private charters have a minimum duration of  4 days at a time.

Guests cabins are serviced on a daily basis just like a floating hotel.  

All cabins have ensuites and are air-conditioned with hot showers making it the perfect mother ship for any type of charter.

Our charter boat is permitted to ply the length and breadth of the Great Barrier Reef from our home port of Mackay - we can also depart from other location (relocation fee applies).

We also provide extended fishing charters from Cairns  by negotiation for 7 days or more for remote region fishing up north towards the Torres Strait Islands.

We head up near Lizard Island and move north toward Cape Melville, the Flinders Group and Princess Charlotte Bay.

Diving on The Great Barrier Reef - Optional Extra

Diving conditions are great all year round on the Great Barrier Reef with visibility running between 15m to 30m and the water temperature usually between 24c and 30c.

We have the unique opportunity of wreck diving, night dives, deep dives in trenches and swim-throughs as well as ravines and canyons. 

Snorkellers are also well catered for on both shallow waters around coral bommies and island walks.

Snorkelers enjoy themselves just as much as the divers on the Great Barrier Reef.

Catering On Our Private Charter Boat

If you simply cannot get enough seafood you certainly will on one of our liveaboard private charter boat tours as we have a fresh catch every single day.

Your morning begins with a continental breakfast then a cooked breakfast.

Morning tea is always something to look forward to with  freshly baked scones, pikelets and cakes.

Lunch is another feast by the onboard chef with a selection of salads and accompanients.

In the afternoon its bar snacks with some finger foods like fresh caught fish and seafood, and of course our fully licensed bar to go with it.

And for dinner it’s a more formal affair in the dining room for a 3 course meal.

Scuba Diving Restrictions

• Certain medical conditions and medications may preclude some people from scuba diving.
• Participation is subject to a medical questionnaire completed on board with the tour operator
• Minimum age for scuba diving is 12 years.
• Flying after scuba diving: a wait of 12 hours is recommended after one dive, 18 hour after 2 dives and at least 24 hours after multiple dives, before ascending to an altitude of 300 metres or greater.

Final payment due 60 days prior to departure. Cancellation received 60days or more prior to departure are entitled to a refund. Cancellation received within 60 days, no refund.

The charter boat is a licensed venue - strictly no BYO alcohol is permitted. The vessel is subject to Customs and Police searches. We have a strict zero tolerance policy around illegal substances. Anybody found to be carrying or using illegal substances will be asked to leave the vessel at the nearest set down point & at their own cost. Unruly behaviour will not be tolerated aboard. In such instances where this occurs the charter will conclude & the vessel will return to port immediately. GPS units, Navionics or any other such location recording devices are not welcome aboard. Use of or suspected use of such equipment will result in the cessation of further vessel movements.

Action Charters operates from MACKAY, QLD, 4740

Private tours to Whitsunday Island, Cumberland islands and the outer Great Barrier Reef providing Reef, Sports and Heavy Tackle fishing.

Included on all fishing charter trips: On charter lunch, lite snacks, bottled water and soft drinks are all provided. Alcohol not included, you are welcome to BYO. Overnight Charters also include hot breaky and cooked dinners. All tackle, bait, rods and reels will be provided. You are also welcome to bring all of your own tackle and/or reels. Day Charters depart 5AM to 7PM. Overnight Charter Times depart 6AM to 6PM.

The  Seaforth  area has recently been gazetted by the Queensland Government as a net free zone and this will see this regions fishery boom in the coming years for species like Barramundi Threadfin Salmon and many other inshore species.

Mackay Fly & Sportfishing offers personalised full day fishing adventures in both salt and freshwater for a variety great sportfish species for both fly fisherman and conventional lure anglers.

We bring our clients to the hottest fishing spots in our safe Coast Guard Inspected, super fast, comfortable and mad fishy boat the Gatherer II and put them on top of the high grade fish while having a legendary day in the bay. 

We also run regular women's trips, kids trips, wine tasting tours and offer private events and team building days on our dialed in, fully lisenced and insured adventure boat with a 10 person capacity.  

We provide all gear and require no previous fishing experience on all of our trips. Our clients take home their just caught fish professionally filleted and ready for cooking and sharing.

Stay on the Fish with Us

We are currently booking private Full Boat Charters with up to 8-10 anglers and  Open Load Indivdual Tickets  on trips with a maximum of 8 people. 

Every Gatherer Outfitters Fishing Trip includes all bait, gear, and tackle and professional fish filleting of your catch to take home. Unlike party boats are no extras to pay for—just get on the boat and we’ll get you on the fish! 

We leave from the J Dock of Berkeley Marina around 6am and return between 2-3pm.

Private Trips can customize hours, target species and most aspects of the day. 

Gatherer Outfitters trips take place on the Gatherer II,  a super fast, super comfortable 30 x 12 1/2 foot Island Hopper. We are one of the few Coast Gaurd Inspected 8+ Packs in the Bay, meaning that our boat was built and maintained to the highest safety standards, our Capt is a Master Captain, and our boat is able to carry up to 12 passengers. 

The Gatherer II is extremely wide and stable, perfect for both trolling and drifting. She’s powered by a 425 horse power 6.7l Cummins Diesel super fast, super low emissions motor, giving us a comfortable crushing speed of 20+kts. She boasts brand new state of the art Raymarine and Simrad electronics including the latest in sonar imaging technology, as well as a thumping JB Audio blue tooth sound system.   

The Gatherer II offers an onboard head (toilet) and comfortable seating for our clients.   

The Gatherer is equipped with top quality fishing gear—Avet lever drag reels and braided line with fluorocarbon liters paired with high end terminal tackle. We use Gamagatzu and Owner hooks. 

The boat is equipped with custom designed live bait system, including a 110 gallon tank with viewing windows and the largest bait pump on the market. This system ensures that we will have the freshest, most lively bait for catching the big ones. 

As lifelong commercial fishermen, we always deck bleed, keep the fish well iced, and professionally fillet all fish at the dock, so that our clients go home with top of the line, sushi grade seafood.

Fishing makes memories. Gatherer Outfitters trips are a perfect way to bring family together. We carry children’s life jackets, and kids ages 5 and up are welcome, and tend to love days on the boat. Our kids love to fish on the Gatherer, we think yours will too!
