Mount Abu

The Road to Mount Abu is a well-known scenic route that passes through the Aravalli Range and the heart of Rajasthan. Travelers who value the finer points of a road trip will find the journey to be the ideal destination because it offers a distinctive combination of natural beauty, cultural significance, and historical significance.

Where is Mount Abu located in India?

Mount Abu is a city at the end of the Aravalli range in Rajasthan, some 100 kilometers (62 miles) west of Udaipur.

This location is known as a great place of pilgrimage in Jainism. It is also the only mountain station in Rajasthan.

Larger towns nearby are Udaipur and Ahmedabad.

You can locate the road on the map below:

Why is Mount Abu popular?

The journey’s final stop, Mount Abu, is a well-known hill town situated in the state of Rajasthan. It draws tourists from all over the world due to its stunning natural beauty, extensive cultural heritage, and spiritual significance.

Charming towns, breathtaking vistas, and historical sites are all along the Road to Mount Abu and just waiting to be discovered. The rich cultural heritage of Rajasthan, including its traditional architecture, music, and cuisine, can be explored by tourists along the way.

The region has a relatively cool climate and views the arid plains below.

What is the history of Mount Abu?

From the end of the 10th century to 1320, Mount Abu was the center of a vassal kingdom of Paramara, of capital Chandravati, and whose first raja, Aranyaraja was the son of a Paramâra of Malva.

This place has been one of the most important pilgrimage centers of Jainism since the 11th century and there are many white marble Jain temples.

The oldest is Vimal Vasahi, build in 1031 by Vimal Shah and dedicated to the first Tirthankara. The second one is, the Lun Vasahi, build in 1231 by the brothers Vastupal and Tejpal, ministers of Vir Dhawal, a râja from Gujarat belonging to the Porwal Jain community.

Located about 1220 meters (4000 feet) above sea level on Lake Nakki, Mount Abu has been a favorite vacation spot for the region’s aristocracy for hundreds of years. As evidenced by the honeymoon trip of the famous Hindu emperor Prithviraj Chauhan in 1778.

It is, however, during the British Raj that the city knows an important tourist development. Indeed it became the capital of the agency of Rajputana. It was also the place of residence of the Residents (colonial representative), and sheltered many sanatoriums for the troops fleeing the unbearable heat of the Indian summer.

The princely families of the various Rajput states (such as Jaipur, Kishangarh, Bharatpur, or Bikaner) had summer palaces on the banks and at the heights of the city.

Also, be aware of other people: as it is a tourist place, many tourists park on the road which can obstruct the passage. It can create dangerous situations. You could find many hotels near Abu road for your accommodation.

Today, Mount Abu is mostly frequented by tourists during the Indian summer holidays. The winter months are also an important time. It should also be noted that important pilgrimages are organized according to religious festivals which can cause big traffic jams. The Top 10 Things to Do in Mount Abu, Rajasthan

Rajasthan's Only Hill Station

mount abu road trip

Tim Makins/Getty Images

Mount Abu, at 4,000 feet (1,220 meters) above sea level, is the highest peak in the Aravalli mountain range and Rajasthan's only hill station set up by the British. It's situated close to the Gujarat state border, approximately five hours drive from Ahmedabad and four hours from Udaipur. The British took a liking to Mount Abu because of its comfortable climate, and they relocated the headquarters of their political Rajputana Agency there from Ajmer in 1857. The imposing Rajputana Residency building, renamed Raj Bhawan after the British left, is now occupied by the Rajasthan Governor during summers. Mount Abu has a reputation as a honeymooner's haven but Indian families flock to the area as well. It remains an offbeat destination for foreigners though. There are plenty of diverse things to do in Mount Abu, particularly for adventure and nature enthusiasts. Here's the pick of them.

Enjoy Water Sports on Nakki Lake

uniquely india/Getty Images

Sacred Nakki Lake sits in the center of Mount Abu. According to Hindu mythology, the gods dug it with their nails while attempting to escape from a demon. The shops and restaurants in the vicinity of the lake draw a crowd in the evenings. However, boating is the big attraction, especially for families with children. It's not well regulated and demand is high during peak season from April to June. Hence, it's best to get there early in the morning to grab a boat and negotiate a rate. Expect to pay anywhere between 50 rupees to 300 rupees per person for a pedal boat, depending on the season. Row boats with oarsmen cost more. Aqua zorbing also takes place on the lake.

See the Town from Toad Rock

Veena Nair/Getty Images

Perched above the southern bank of Nakki Lake, landmark Toad Rock provides a panoramic view over town. For peace, the lookout is best visited early in the morning. It can be reached by following the beginning of Bailey's Walk trail, named after a British magistrate, from near Raghunath Temple at Nakki Lake. Those who are interested in the teachings of Swami Vivekananda will want to stop by Champa Cave, about half way up the trail to Toad Rock. The Swami is said to have meditated there for a while in 1891.

Soak Up the View at Sunset Point

anand purohit/Getty Images

Bailey's Walk meanders all the way from Nakki Lake to Sunset Point. However, it's quite long and moderately strenuous when going uphill. Alternatively, take Sunset Point Road, west of the Polo Ground. Shared jeeps ferry passengers from the Polo Ground entrance to the parking lot near Sunset Point, which features a steel Eiffel Tower replica (go figure). From there, it's about a 15 minute walk, horse ride, or push-cart ride to the point. Don't expect to have the view to yourself though! The place becomes carnival-like with hordes of people, amusement park rides and pushy vendors. Arrive at least 45 minutes before sunset to beat the rush and claim a good position. You may want to skip the experience though, as many tourists complain that it's over-hyped and the entrance fee is unreasonable.

Marvel Over the Exquisite Jain Temples

Chris Protopapas/Getty Images

Way before the arrival of the British, influential and wealthy devotees of the Jain religion from Gujarat built some of the finest Jain temples in India (and the world) at Delwara near Mount Abu. The temple complex was constructed between the 11th-13th centuries and is undoubtedly Mount Abu's most spectacular attraction. Its five temples are devoted to various Jain tirthankara s (saints). The two biggest temples (Vimal Vasahi and Luna Vasahi) each took thousands of artisans about 14 years to complete, and have astonishing intricately carved marble work. Sadly, photography isn't allowed. The temples are open to the public daily from noon until 6 p.m. All leather items, footwear, phones and cameras must be left outside at the paid storage counter. Furthermore, menstruating women are considered to be unclean and shouldn't enter the temples. Shared jeeps run to Delwara from Chacha Museum Chowk in Mount Abu's market area.

Go on a Pilgrimage

Exotica.im/Getty Images

Mount Abu is linked to various sages and seers in ancient Hindu texts and mythology. Such holy heritage means that many temples and religious places exist there. The Dattatreya cave temple on top of Guru Shikha peak is the most frequently visited one. It houses the footprints of guru Dattatreya, the guru of yogis and ascetics. He's believed to be an incarnation of the divine trinity (lords Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva). There's also a temple belonging to his mother, Ahilya, nearby. The cave temple of Arbuda Devi (also known as Adhar Devi temple) is another popular Hindu temple, situated just outside town on the way to the Jain temples. Legend has it that serpent goddess Arbuda saved the life of Lord Shiva's bull, Nandi, on the mountain. The great sage Vashistha lived at Mount Abu and is said to have performed a ritual sacrifice that created the four warrior Rajput clans. There's an ashram and Gaumukh temple dedicated to him. In addition, within the ruins of Achalgarh fort, the 9th century Achaleshwar Mahadev temple is where Lord Shiva's toe is unusually worshiped.

Explore Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary

Max Paddler/Getty Images

The great outdoors beckons at Mount Abu! The Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary covers nearly 116 square miles (300 square kilometers) of the mountain and has many rare plants (including medicinal plants), plus valleys, peaks and forests. There are numerous walking trails of various distances and difficulties in the sanctuary, ranging from half-day to longer multi-day expeditions. Rock climbing, rappelling, caving and camping are also possible. Hiking & Trekking Company conducts popular guided walks and day hikes. Rajasthan Adventure and Nature Academy is recommended for adventure activities such as rock climbing. Contact Mahendra ‘Charles’ Dan of Mount Abu Treks for bespoke treks and village visits. The cost of entering the sanctuary is 50 rupees for Indians and 300 rupees for foreigners.

Spot Crocodiles at Trevor's Tank

If you don't want to go hiking through Mount Abu Wildlife Sanctuary, you can easily visit Trevor's Tank to spend time amid nature. This huge reservoir was made by British engineer Colonel G.H. Trevor, who bred crocodiles, in 1897. It's only 10 minutes from the Jain temples at Delwara, on the way to Dattatreya temple. The tank is a renowned picnic spot, and there are walkways and viewing stations around it for wildlife watching. Large crocodiles can often be seen resting on the banks during November and December. Birdwatchers should head to Salim Ali Point for standout sightings. The entry fee is 50 rupees per person for Indians and 100 rupees for foreigners, plus additional charges for vehicles.

Have Fun at Thrill Zone Adventure Park

Thrill Zone Adventure Park

About 15 minutes further along the road from Trevor's Tank, Thrill Zone Adventure Park offers an enticing array of almost 25 fun activities. Some of them are zip-lining, ATV rides, dirt bikes, horse riding, rappelling, land zorbing, paintball and archery. The park has been well-developed, and is safe and professionally managed. It's open daily from 9 a.m. until sunset. The cost is 250-350 rupees per activity, with discounts provided for multiple activities. There's also a camping ground for those who wish to stay overnight.

Meditate with the Brahma Kumaris

mds0/Getty Images

If you're spiritually-inclined, you can learn about and try Raja Yoga meditation at the global headquarters of the Brahma Kumaris (Daughters of Brahma) in Mount Abu. The beliefs of this spiritual community stem from Hinduism but are distinct from it. The Brahma Kumaris focus on soul-consciousness—that is on people's identities as souls, as opposed to bodies and the associated labels. According to them, souls enter bodies on earth to experience life and grow. Their teachings aim to create a shift from outer material dependency to inner awareness. This will uplift souls and bring about a spiritual re-awakening of humanity. The Brahma Kumaris' headquarters has a number of campuses. The recreational Peace Park, close to Thrill Zone Adventure Park, is ideal for beginner meditation. Guided tours and short films about the concepts of Raja Yoga are provided there. Spiritual retreats and talks are offered at Madhuban , in Mount Abu town, for those who want a more immersive experience. The mortal remains of the Brahma Kumaris' founder are laid to rest there. Serious spiritual seekers can stay at Shantivan Ashram at the base of Mount Abu.

Attend a Festival

Keren Su/Getty Images

Mount Abu has two annual tourist festivals that celebrate the culture of the region. The Summer Festival coincides with the occasion of Buddha Purnima (in April or May each year), while the Winter Festival always happens from December 29–31. Attractions include folk performances, ballad singing, bands, processions, kite flying, and sports competitions.

The Ultimate Guide To Mount Abu, A Scenic Hill Station In The Land Of Sand

The Ultimate Guide To Mount Abu, A Scenic Hill Station In The Land Of Sand

The Ultimate Guide To Mount Abu, A Scenic Hill Station In The Land Of Sand

Do you know the name of the largest state in India? Well, no points for guessing; it’s Rajasthan — the land of all things grand. For many, the word Rajasthan automatically brings to mind vast stretches of glistening dunes, camel rides, and mesmerizing forts. But there’s more.

An image of camels walking across the Thar Desert, Rajasthan

As the largest state of India with a variety of landscapes, Rajasthan has it all. From big, beautiful lakes to grand Havelis, from sunsets on sands to national parks—the platter is actually as diverse as a big Rajasthani thali.

This is the image of a traditional Rajasthani thali

If Rajasthan has got your attention, then without further ado, let’s present to you its only hill station—Mount Abu. Located in the Sirohi district of Rajasthan, this isolated massif of the Aravalli range has an elevation of 4000 ft. Due to its height, lush greenery and surrounding lakes, Mount Abu is a respite from the scorching summer of Rajasthan.

A Wonderful Mix Of History And Mythology

In the Puranas, this area was referred to as ‘Arbudaranya’ i.e., the forest of Arbu. So clearly, the word Abu has its roots in ‘Arbu’. According to mythology, Arbuda was a serpent who saved the life of Nandi, Lord Shiva’s bull, on this mountain.

In 1311 CE, Rao Lumba of the Deora-Chauhan Dynasty conquered Mount Abu from the Parmars. Later, the British took it on lease from the Maharaja of Sirohi to set up their base away from Rajasthan’s dry, hot summer.

If history, mythology and nature interest you, you’re surely in for a treat in Mount Abu.

India Bike Rides

Amazing stories of bike rides on Indian roads

Delhi to Mount Abu (Rajasthan) road trip

by Kapil Sharma · January 8, 2023

2 nd to 4 th October 2020

During the covid time in 2020, everything around us stopped. It was the scariest time for all of us. After a couple of months of first lockdown, we somehow gathered the courage and planned a road trip (check: How to plan a road trip? ) on our bikes from Delhi to Mount Abu in October 2020. We were nine riders in total, and frankly all of us had to convince our families to make this trip happen. We all planned this trip for the long weekend including 2nd October (Friday – Sun).

The total distance from Delhi to Mount Abu is approximately 770 km. Our planned route was Delhi – Jaipur – Ajmer – Beawar – Pali – Sirohi – Mount Abu . The Flag-off point was Dhaula Kuan metro station ( Delhi ). 770 Km is not a small distance to be covered on the same day in India . Once you have a group of like-minded people, you can easily gather courage to beat it.

We started at 5 AM in the morning from Dhaula Kuan . One of rider’s wife has packed some home-cooked Samosas and Puri-Sabzi. What a delight to have before you start your journey. In fact, this is the most traditional Indian food during any journey, whether in train or your own vehicle.

Delhi to mount abu- Jaipur - Indiabikerides

First stop – Jaipur:

Our first stop was Jaipur , which is approx. 275 Km from Delhi . One of the rider’s relatives was waiting for us in Jaipur with famous Kachoris (a local Jaipur delight). There we had an hour-long break at around 9 am. We had Kachoris and some sweet dishes (by that time I was not too resistant to such unhealthy but delicious food). The local host was there with his family, they all got lot of pics clicked with us, and our bikes. Everyone was happy. At around 10 AM we moved ahead with our journey.

Delhi to mount abu- Jaipur 2- india bike rides

Onward journey:

Although it was October month, the weather was still not pleasant, especially during the daytime that too in Rajasthan . We had a couple of hydration breaks, crossed Ajmer and Beawar at the planned time. From Beawar another route goes to Udaipur . Mount Abu can be reached via Udaipur too, but it will be a long de-tour. Normally people create longer trips and include Udaipur as well in their itinerary. This time Udaipur was not in our plan. We crossed Beawar , and that time we were cruising on little more than 100 Km/ hour, as the highway was very well maintained and almost empty. It is hard to get empty highways in India, but during covid time we have found it many times.

Now here comes Rajasthan police, with a speed gun, they have tracked our speed and brought it down to zero. At first, they were surprised that, how can a bike go that fast? We were all set to get a ticket for speeding. But somehow our friendly speeches and kindness of those nice police officers made the situation a little comfy. They have decided to let us go with a warning. From there onwards we didn’t overspeed.

It was soon lunch time. This highway doesn’t have any fancy restaurants. Anyhow it is not a big concern when you are travelling with good friends. We had our lunch around 2:30 pm, and we resumed our journey further. The route was throughout well maintained and 4-lanes. It was a beautiful scenic route with some hilly terrain as well. Mount Abu is a small hill station in Rajasthan .

Mount Abu :

We got the single road just before starting our climb to the Mount Abu hills. It was already dark by the time we started our ascent. All our bikes are fitted with good LED lights with extra auxiliary lights for such dark roads. We reached our hotel at Mount Abu by 9 in the evening. Mr Gulati has already ordered some beers and refreshments an hour in advance. After such a long journey such delight was waiting for us. All of us partied till 2 am, just wanted to enjoy every moment of it.

As I mentioned earlier, Mount Abu is a small hill station in Rajasthan . It is beautiful and not too cold. It has a small lake, and some hills, very apt for trekking. We hired a local guide and did an hour-long trek, which ended near the lake. It was just a few months since covid hit the world. But still there were so many people around, but everyone was following covid protocols. We also enjoyed boating on the lake. Here are some pics of the local sight-seeing and boating.

Mount abu trekking, india bike rides

Party night and return journey:

Saturday night was the party night, again. Party mode was on, Mr Gulati, our famous rider, has arranged a wonderful dinner with drinks. We were enjoying our time, but at midnight, we found out that one of us had an emergency at his home. He changed his plan and was about to leave very early in the morning for the way back to his home. We didn’t want to let him ride on his own in such a situation, so we all decided to accompany him back. We called it a day and took a quick nap and showered early in the morning to come back to normal state. After checking out of the hotel we all left at 3:30 AM and rode continuously. We had our breakfast before Ajmer and a lunch break near Shahpura .

On our way, just before entering NCR, near Bawal , one of our bikes struck a bump, formed due to the melted tar on the middle of the road. Such melted tar forms so many bumps especially during summer season due to heavy overloaded trucks. And Jaipur – Delhi highway is full of them. Our bikes are low floor bikes, which is why it is more prone to hit such bumps. This particular bump was exactly in the middle of the road, and we couldn’t see it as such bumps are not marked. The bike’s oil sump (which is generally at the bottom) got broken, and all the engine oil leaked. All of us had to stop, except the one with the emergency at home.

Roadside assistance (RSA):

We had to call RSA (roadside assistance) in order to get the bike towed to the nearest service station. It took RSA one and a half hours to reach there.

Once the RSA took control of the bike, we adjusted the rider on one of our bikes, and we resumed our journey. From Manesar we took KMP towards Palwal – Greater Noida , as it was already evening, and we didn’t want to cross evening traffic of Gurgaon and Delhi . We took the Greater Noida exit and reached our homes in Noida by 9 in the evening. It was a fun filled trip. After so many months of isolation due to covid, it was a much-needed outing for all of us. We enjoyed it a lot. But also, we took care of covid precautions. In the end none of us got infected. All such enjoyments made this trip the most memorable bike trip I ever had.

Mount Abu: A Hill Station in the Desert of Rajasthan, India

Photo of Raj Gopal S Verma

Situated in the Sirohi district of the State, Mount Abu is a part of the Aravalli range.

Arbudaanchal, as it was known earlier is now famous as Mount Abu. It is said that Guru Vashistha retired at Mount Abu following his differences with sage Vishwamitra. Another mythology believes that a serpent named "Arbuda" saved the life of Nandi - Lord Shiva's bull. The incident happened on the mountain which is currently known as Mount Abu. Thus there are many temples and hermitages found there.

Mount Abu is the only hill station of the State of Rajasthan, India, which is known for its desert. Beautifully carved out by nature, the place is a center of attraction due to a number of ancient temples, headquarter of Brahma Kumaris, which have many campuses here. It has five famous Dilwara Jain temples and other Hindu temples. Nakki Lake is a beautiful added attraction for the tourists where they enjoy boating. A wild life sanctuary is also located here. The historical Achalgarh fort, built in the 14th century by Rana Kumbha of Mewar is also a major tourist attraction.

Dilwara Jain Temples

Dilwara temples are the most revered ancient temples of Jains. Although the Jains built some beautiful temples at other places of India, including Rajasthan, it is believed that none come close to these in terms of architectural perfection and style. The ornamental detail spreading over the minutely carved ceilings, doorways, pillars and panels is simply amazing.

Gyan Sarovar Retreat Center

The Gyan Sarovar Complex at Mount Abu is reminiscent of ‘Mansarovar’, about which a legend goes that anyone who dipped into the lake emerged in the form of a fairy or an angel. Gyan Sarovar is said to be an environment which enables individuals to dip into the ‘Lake of Knowledge’ and emerge highly transformed.Founded by the Brahma Kumaris in 1996, the Gyan Sarovar Academy for a Better World was inaugurated as part of the celebration of the University’s 60th anniversary. The Academy is an international campus – a place where men, women and children can reach their unique human potential and cultivate the values of our common humanity.

Nakki Late at Mount Abu is said to be the largest man-made lake at the height of 1,1 00 meters in India. People called it the love lake of Mount Abu. It is also regarded as the sacred lake for the proud Garacia tribe. They come to the lake on their festival in Shukla Paksha in April to worship and remember their ancestors, and consecrate their nails!

Brahma Kumaris Ashram

Though it has an ancient history, Mount Abu is currently known more for being the headquarter of Brahma Kumaris Ashram. A short walk takes you away from the activity of tourist place into the tranquil seclusion of this sacred destination whose atmosphere emanates a sense of enchantment; and to the worldwide spiritual headquarters of the Brahma Kumaris from whence the knowledge of the king of all yogas, Raja Yoga, is disseminated, as they claim. The spiritual headquarters complex consists of three campuses – Madhuban and Gyan Sarovar – as well as a recreational park and the Global Hospital & Research Centre. The third center is situated at Abu Road, which is known as Shantivan.

The town of Mount Abu has become a center of bustling market. The rustic look and the trendy shops—both co-exist and lure tourists for their handmade wares, dresses and the eatables. Roadside dhabas have also come up as the lime juice and bhutta wallas. You can see real Rajasthan here with people donning their traditional colourful turban and the women with colorful dresses and the distinct jewellery.

Dilwara Temples:

Dilwara Temples

Dilwara temples are the examples of remarkable Jain architecture and are known for country’s finest decorated temples. Made of marble, these two temples are center of attraction for tourists and those who believes in the Jainism. Vimal Vashai is the elder temple, dates back to as early as year 1031. It is dedicated to the first tirthankar of Jains, Adinath. It is said that 1500 masions and 1200 laborers built it in 14 years. The other one, the Luna Vashi temple is dedicated to the Neminath, the 22nd tirthankar and was built about two centuries later in about 15 years. The temple complex is in the city boundary only and you can easily walk your way to it since it is very near to parking place.

According to Hindu mythology, Nakki lake in Mount Abu is a very sacred ancient lake. The legend is that the lake was dug by the nails of the people, and hence the name. Other myth is that it was dug by Gods themselves to live in.

Gyan Sarovar Pond

Gyan Sarovar:

Gyan Sarovar is a 25 acre campus of Brahma Kumaris, situated at Mount Abu. It is officially known as academy of the better world. Gyan Sarovar is an environment which enables individuals to dip into the ‘Lake of Knowledge’ and emerge highly transformed.

Founded by the Brahma Kumaris in 1996, the Gyan Sarovar Academy for a Better World was inaugurated as part of the celebration of the University’s 60th anniversary. The Academy is an international campus – a place where men, women and children can reach their unique human potential and cultivate the values of our common humanity.

Madhuban is a place where thousands of devotees from nearly 100 countries gather to deepen their meditation practice. Madhuban’s atmosphere of spirituality inspires profound experiences.

Within no time, the Madhuban campus has evolved into an homely, complex of dormitories, residential units, meditation venues and buildings that house dining facilities, administrative offices, a literature shop, a telephone exchange and a dispensary. The Universal Peace Hall, a 3,000 seat auditorium, has regularly hosted international conferences since 1983. Dining facilities can cater meals for up to 4,000.

Just as the cool heights of Mt. Abu beckoned the Rajasthani kings to retreat from their daily routine; professionals from all corners of the world are attracted to the spiritual power of ’Madhuban‘. Above and beyond the hustle and bustle, the wondrous beauty of ‘Madhuban’ spirits them away to another world.

Global Hospital:

Western Rajasthan is one of the least privileged areas of India . Much of it is desert, water is in short supply and the illiteracy is rampant. The majority of the population has long been deprived of basic health measures. This situation began to change in 1990 with the establishment of the J. Watumull Memorial Global Hospital and Research Centre, a Brahma Kumaris initiative. Designed to provide high quality, modern, holistic healthcare services in a tranquil, rural environment, the hospital offers free or subsidised treatment and medicine to 100,000 people, of whom 54,000 are tribal residents inhabiting 855 primitive villages. The hospital is managed and run by a charitable trust established and supported by members of the Brahma Kumaris.

Peace Park:

The Brahma Kumaris Peace Park is both lovely and serene, a natural environment where silence and recreation co–exist. The park offers a perfect recreational environment, with level playing fields, picnic areas, swings, and nature walks. Nestled between two famous peaks of the Aravali hills–the well known spiritual pilgrimage destinations of Guru Shikhar and Achal Garh—Peace Park is an oasis of natural beauty only 8 kms from the Madhuban campus.

To enter into the temples, one must not wear any leather product. Cameras and mobile phones are also prohibited there.Built by Chalukya between the 11th and 13th centuries AD the temples are world famous and constructed entirely of white marble. These are domed shrines with pillared halls. The Dilwara temples are a composite cluster of five temples. Each of these temples display their own unique identity. These legendary marble temples of Dilwara are named after the small village in which it is located. These are: Vimal Vasahi (Shri Adi Nathji temple) dedicated to the first Jain Tirthankar lord Rishabh, Luna Vasahi (Shri Neminathji temple) dedicated to the 22nd Jain Tirthankar lord Neminatha, Pithalhar (Shri Rishabha Devji temple) dedicated to the first Jain Tirthankar lord Rishabh, Khartar Vasahi (Shri Parshva Nathji temple) dedicated to the 23rd Jain Tirthankar lord Parshva, Mahavir Swami (Shri Mahavir Swamiji temple) dedicated to the 23rd Jain Tirthankar lord Parshva. The designs of the temples depict life stories of Jain Tirthankars, scenes of Gods and Goddesses and great men from Jain and great Hindu mythology. The most famous of these are the Vimal Vasahi and Luna Vasahi temples.

Nakki Lake:

The lake is about half mile in length and about a quarter in widths. There is the Toad Rock on a hill near the lake. Toad rock is so called as it looks like a toad about to jump into the lake, from the side of the rock facing the lake. There are two ways to go up and down the rock; to climb the rocky hill side or to use the steps leading down to Nakki Lake. By the side of the lake there is a path leading to Sunset Point. It is forbidden to climb to Sunset Point due to dangerous bandits living around the path to Sunset Point. Raghunath Temple and Maharaja Jaipur Palace are also on hills near the Lake. Boating in the lake and horse rides around the lake is available.

The Gyan Sarovar complex includes the following facilities:

· Universal Harmony Hall, which seats 1600 individuals and provides simultaneous translation in more than 16 languages. It features both heating and cooling systems and excellent acoustics.

· A complete modular solar steam cooking system of 24, 7.5 square metre parabolic solar dishes capable of providing 2,000 meals per day.

· The International Centre for Higher Learning, an ideal setting for experiential learning processes. This building has 13 seminar rooms with seating capacities ranging from 75–150 individuals.

· 15,000 fruit trees and vegetable gardens irrigated by the recycled water from three man–made lakes.

· A residential complex, which offers comfortable accommodation for 250 people.

· A Meditation Dome, which features a newly–developed ‘dome–and–vault design/ construction technique’ of stabilised mud bricks. This deeply quiet room relies entirely on solar and wind energy for its electricity supply and has an internal earth tunnel ventilation system which maintains a relatively stable year–round temperature.

· A kitchen and dining building able to serve ‘Sattwic’ vegetarian food to 1200 individuals at a time.

· 10 kW hybrid wind–solar–diesel system with battery bank that ensures a 24–hour power supply to the Academy’s telephone and audiovisual systems.

· A Spiritual Art Gallery, which combines high tech audio–visual interactive programmes with traditional Indian art, and features murals depicting international images.

· A unique waste treatment plant capable of treating 200,000 litres of wastewater (generated by kitchen, bathroom and laundry facilities) such that nearly 80% is available for re–use.

Surrounded by Mt. Abu’s splendour and lush vegetation, nestled near the still waters of Nakki Lake, lies ‘Madhuban’, the global spiritual headquarters of the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University.
