Taxi for Mykonos Airport and Mykonos Port

A taxi from Mykonos Airport to Mykonos Town (Chora) costs around 15 € and the distance is 3.5 km. The taxis are available for pick up at the arrivals terminal. However, there are times that the demand on the island is very high and depending on your arrival time you many need to wait. Booking in advance is possible but it usually cost a bit more. Getting around Mykonos needn't be a Chora

Short distances and quick journey times make getting around the compact Aegean island of Mykonos  easy.

Cheap options are many: a useful bus network runs during the tourist season with frequent service and low fares, while small boats connect many of the most popular beaches on the south coast.

For maximum flexibility, you can hire a motorbike or car, although parking poses a challenge come July and August, especially at the more popular beaches where parking spots are few and fees are high. Although taxis are not plentiful, various other options mean that you can get around Mykonos without the hassle and expense of renting a car.

A comprehensive network of buses covers Mykonos. Operated by the national cooperative  KTEL , services run reasonably frequently throughout the day; you can get to most important places on the island, including the airport, for about €2 ($2.30; fares vary slightly depending on the distance of the trip). Buses depart from two stations in the main town of Hora : Fabrika is just south of the old town, while Old Port is 500m north of the center. Travel times are short: the trip from New Port (where large ferries dock) or the airport to Hora takes under 20 minutes.

Despite journeys being measured in minutes, the buses are those typically found on long-distance coach services, complete with just one narrow entry door. This only compounds the crush of riders in summer when demand easily outstrips the supply of seats and you may have to wait a while for a free space.

Routes serving the party beaches and their nocturnal clubs may run until 2am in summer. Note that service to the north and east coasts is sparse or nonexistent.

It’s simple to rent a car on Mykonos, either from a well-known firm or one of several local vendors. Arrange well in advance in the peak summer months or expect to be left carless when demand outstrips supply. For a spontaneous rental of a day or two, it may be easiest to hire a car through your accommodation.

A car gives you full freedom to explore all of Mykonos – though there are drawbacks, especially in summer. The relatively short drives along the island’s limited road network can be harrowing due to narrow lanes, cliffside plunges and incessant peak-season traffic. Parking is also stressful in Hora and at the beaches; expect hefty fines if you decide to leave your car in an unapproved spot. Additionally, some of the more remote beaches are accessible only by dirt tracks not recommended for a non-4WD automobile.

A good strategy is to rent a car for just one day to fully explore the compact island, sparing you the attendant hassles for the remainder of your trip.

Motorbike or scooter

Buzzing about Mykonos on two wheels is an excellent alternative to driving a car, as the narrow roads are less of an issue and parking is much easier. Businesses renting motorbikes or scooters are plentiful – but non-EU residents should note a crucial caveat: you’ll need a motorcycle or motorbike license valid in your home country.

Twisting, hilly roads and very narrow lanes with myriad blind curves make bike riding a challenge on Mykonos. And that’s before you add in drivers maniacally speeding to make up for time spent stalled in traffic. All this doesn’t deter everyone, and you’ll find multiple places to rent bikes. If you want to leave the choice of a safe and interesting back road to the experts, consider joining a bike tour. Yummy Pedals offers a range of routes for various fitness levels and interests.

With hordes of holidaymakers descending on the island, taxis are expensive on Mykonos. You’ll find taxi stands at the airport, in Hora and at the ferry ports. Relatively short trips can cost €15-25 ($18-29), and in high season taxis are in short supply and waits can be long. If you want certainty for an added surcharge, you can try booking a taxi in advance. Most places to stay will pick you up at the ferry ports or airport for about €10 ($12) if you arrange your ride in advance.

Uber and other ride-share apps are not available on the island.

Small boats (caïques) operate a water taxi service in summer linking the most popular beaches on the south coast. Service runs hourly going east from Ornos to Elia from about 10am until 4pm. Return service going west runs from around noon until 5:30pm. Beach stops include Platys Gialos , Paraga , Paradise, Super Paradise and Agrari . Fares cost €10 ($12) for one hop or €20 ($24) for an all-day pass.

In town, the Mykonos Sea Bus runs a super convenient and speedy service linking New Port (where large ferries dock) with Hora’s Old Port (some fast ferries plus local buses) and the old town. Summer service runs every 30 minutes from 7:30am until 11:30pm and costs only €2 ($2.30).

Getting around by foot on Mykonos is viable for the beaches and holiday rentals close to Hora such as Tourlos and Megali Ammos . It’s also possible to walk between the south coast beaches from Ornos in the west to Super Paradise; the beach walk between Platys Gialos Beach and Paradise Beach is even an island highlight. Elsewhere, however, a lack of long-distance trails and the narrow, busy roads makes counting on your own two feet to get around not recommended.

Accessible transportation in Mykonos

Accessible transportation is very limited on Mykonos. Neither public buses nor taxis have wheelchair access. Steep stone stairs abound, walkways are not friendly to people with reduced mobility and crowds jam the lanes and alleys of Hora.

However, if you still choose to try your luck, there are three ways you can get yourself a ride:

• Walk to the taxi station and check if there are any vehicles available. This might be convenient because you can tell the driver where you would like to go, and they can tell you the approximate price for your ride.
• Call the taxi service . It might be good to get the number at your hotel just to ensure you have the right one.
• Stop a vehicle on the street . If you are heading somewhere and following some of the main roads, you can try to wave to taxis that are passing by. If they are available, they’ll stop to pick you up, and that’s it, you got your transfer.

Where Is a Taxi Stand in Mykonos Town?

The main station is located in Mykonos Town – at the north entrance, behind the Cosmote building. There is another stand close to the southern bus station, but the chances are higher you’ll catch a ride at the first one. If you choose to wait at a station, be patient because this can sometimes last more than 30 minutes, especially in the evening during the summer season .

Once you enter the vehicle, you’ll see a notice board that shows prices to main destinations (Greek policy), but they also count meters during the ride, so be prepared that the final price can vary a few dollars (euros) up or down, depending on some other factors like traffic jams.

Stepping back at the time… is always a good idea!

This combo activity sweeps through the picturesque town of Mykonos also known as the “chora”.  Mykonos is famous for being  a cosmopolitan island due to the lifestyle and the variety of visitors all around the world.  Mykonos’ traditional way of life is dearly reflected within its city limits, inside which we offer an authentic walking tour throughout some often unappreciated sites by many of its visitors.

We offer you an opportunity of a lifetime to experience first-hand the true beauty of the Mykonian town, by walking you through its history and re-living some of its memories.

The wonderful walk through the unknown alleys and the secret corners of Mykonos town, begins at 09.00 after you have been collected from your pick-up location (usually your hotel or the cruise-ship port).  Our guide will accompany you and will share his knowledge and stories starting at the well-known location of the Archaeological museum and the Remezzo restaurant (where the entrance of the old town is), close to the old port, which is the starting point of the walking tour.

The adventurous part of this tour starts at 12:00 where you will arrive at the village of Ano Mera, pass through the picturesque square, and visit the monastery of Panagia Tourliani. We then continue by walking only 400 meters to the Mykonian Farm where we will be greeted by the Farm’s superintendent who will guide us through the territory, recounting the history of the places while showing us how the organic and the animal farming operates.

Later, while sitting and relaxing on a traditional stone built couch sipping raki we will learn the history of the island’s farming, its livestock and its crops. During the storytelling of the Mykonian Traditional farming habits, you will enjoy a farmer’s snack consisting of bread, tomatoes, kopanisti, cucumbers and poor man’s black olives, accompanied by the traditional raki.

The Mykonos Water Taxi at Elia Beach.

The Mykonos Water Taxi service runs along the island’s south coast, stopping to pick up and drop off passengers at 7 popular Mykonos beaches along the way from late morning to early evening. It’s a really fun way to get around; the boats are recommissioned fishing boats, and the company that runs them has been in service since 1968.

The main departure beach for the water taxi is Platis Gialos , easily accessible by bus or taxi. Platis Gialos is the only departure point with a cement dock; at the other beaches, the water taxi uses a floating dock or it just pulls up onto the sand and you have to wade through the water to board. The walk from Platis Gialos Beach to Paradise Beach is great – you can spend a super fun day eating, drinking, swimming, and partying your way from one to the other, using the water taxi to fill in the gaps. The Mykonos Water Taxi is an easy, cheap, and fun way to get around the island’s popular southern beaches.

Most boats have an interior with a bit of shade.

Schedules change throughout the season but most beaches will have a posted list of departure and arrival times.

The main departure point for the Mykonos Water Taxi is at Platis Gialos Beach. Platis Gialos is the only beach on the water taxi route with a permanent concrete dock.

Some other beaches use a floating dock, like this one at Paradise Beach.

But not always. Here passengers are boarding from the beach at Paradise Beach.

At other beaches, like Super Paradise Beach, the water taxi will always pull right up on the sand, and passengers wade through the water to board.

There’s also a great walking path along the coast from Platis Gialos beach to Paraga and then Paradise beach. There are many beach clubs and restaurants along the way. You can boat one way and walk the other.

It’s all good fun, family-friendly, and highly recommended.

The water taxis of Mykonos are one of the most fun ways to get around the island since they allow you to enjoy the landscape and the sea.

In brief, water taxis in Mykonos operate two routes: ► One departing from the Old Port in Mykonos Town and heading to the beaches . ► One departing from the New Port (Tourlos) and heading to Mykonos Town

Water taxis to the beaches

There is a caique (wooden traditional boat) service that takes you from the Old Port in Mykonos town to the beaches of Platis Gialos , Paraga , Paradise , Super Paradise , Agrari , Elia , and back. You can catch the boat at the Old Port or at any of the aforementioned beaches.

Sea bus to/from the New Port (Tourlos)

The New Port (Tourlos) is where all passenger ferries arrive. A new service that can transfer individuals between the New Port and the Old Port  is also available in the last few years. The route is made every 30 minutes and its duration is 8 minutes. The tickets cost €2. This means of transportation is highly recommended for visitors who have just arrived at the New Port and want a convenient way to reach Mykonos Town, bus or taxi stations. For that reason, boats offer a luggage storage room. Many water taxis are equipped with air-conditioning and provide WiFi access. The vessels are wheelchair accessible and suitable for strollers as well. You can visit their website for more information and ticket bookings. In addition, daily cruises to Delos and other nearby islands are also offered. In some cases, it may be possible to book a boat for a private event or party.

Forget Mykonos and Santorini, Syros is the best Greek island. Here are 10 of my favorite things to do there.

• Syros, a short ferry ride from Mykonos, is a luxurious and underrated island to visit in Greece .
• I visit every year , and love spending the day at a beach club and seeing a show at Apollon Theater.
• Belle Époque, Theosis, and Allou Yialou are some of the best places to eat and drink on the island.

Tourists flock to the Greek islands of Mykonos and Santorini every summer. But people are finally starting to catch on to the fact that many popular destinations are overpriced and overcrowded.

Luckily, Greece has over 220 inhabited islands to explore — and just a short ferry ride from Mykonos lies Syros.

My grandmother is from the island, and I visit it every year. It's one of the most underrated and luxurious destinations in Greece.

Here are 10 of my favorite things to do on Syros.

Grab a coffee at Belle Époque in Miaouli Square.

One of Syros' most prominent landmarks is Miaouli Square, located just a few steps away from the harbor in the main city of Ermoupoli.

It's a great place to start exploring the island — people of all ages gather to chat and catch up, kids play, and teens socialize on the steps of the town hall.

I love sitting in one of the many cafés around the plaza, like Belle Époque, and enjoying pastries and Greek coffee while I watch the town go by.

Take a dip at Ciel Syros.

Ciel Syros is a beach bar located near the picturesque neighborhood of Vaporia. But there's no sand there — you can eat and drink on a promenade over the water and dive directly into the sea.

The water here is a beautiful, deep, clear blue, but there are no shallows, so it's only recommended for strong swimmers.

You may occasionally get sprayed by waves while enjoying your drinks, but the atmosphere is always fun, especially on summer afternoons when there are endless parties with Greek music.

If you can manage all the steps, walking uphill to Ano Syros from Ermoupoli is a treat.

You'll find a lot of craft, jewelry, clothing, and other shops, as well as cute cafés to explore in this part of the island.

Make sure to arrive in the morning or late afternoon as many stores close for a bit around midday.

Get a cocktail at Theosis.

Theosis Bar is a newer addition to Ano Syros. It's o wned by the same man who operates Kouchico — one of the best cocktail bars in Ermoupoli — and serves carefully curated and crafted drinks.

Instead of tables, people sit around a pedestrianized square on stairs and cushions, making the upscale atmosphere feel more casual and less stuffy.

Catch a show at the Apollon Theater.

Designed as a miniature version of the La Scala opera house in Milan, Apollon Theater hosts shows and performances on the island.

It's also one of the many reasons Syros is considered an island of the arts. Each year, the venue hosts multiple events, including an international film festival .

Spend the day lounging at Ono Concept beach club.

Agathopes Beach has always been popular with families and tourists thanks to its clear, shallow water and golden sand.

With the addition of the elegant Ono Concept beach club, which opened a few years ago, beachgoers can tan on luxurious lounge chairs while enjoying food, coffee, and cocktails.

Tour Chatzakis Winery.

In the northern part of the island, where few tourists (or even locals) venture, there's an amazing winery with a stunning view .

I recommend touring the Chatzakis facility in the evenings. Guests can sample the wines alongside charcuterie and snacks while enjoying a mesmerizing Greek sunset.

Enjoy dinner and a sunset at Allou Yialou.

Syros has become well known for its gastronomy, and Allou Yialou at Kini Beach is one of the best upscale taverna experiences.

Indulge in classic Greek family-style dining featuring plenty of seafood. You can also catch a stunning sunset here as the restaurant faces west.

Stay at one of many converted neoclassical houses.

The architecture in the streets of Ermoupoli is more reminiscent of Venice than the other Greek islands .

Syros has always been known as a very aristocratic island, and some of its old, pastel-colored neoclassical houses have been renovated into boutique hotels.

Check out Aristede Hotel, Villa Selena, or Arion for historic and luxurious accommodations with incredible hospitality.

Go to Loukoumia Leivadaras to try one of the island's specialty sweets.

Syros is famous for its loukoumia, the Greek version of Turkish delight .

The treat is available at many shops across the island, but Loukoumia Leivadaras is one of the most highly rated.
