Superb!! Food, itinerary, crew were spectacular and very accommodating. Highly recommended

Daily outings, seeing animals in their habitat that I have wanted to see for decades.

This is a working vacation for those wanting a busy but flexible schedule for seeing all that the Galapagos offers.

Lots of baby and nesting birds. Swimming with sea lions. Mating turtles. Tons of fish and sharks/rays when snorkeling. I saw all of the species i had hoped to see.

Once in a lifetime.

Swimming with a sea turtle, snorkeling, and swimming with sharks

Penguins :)

  • 8.0 Very good

Very nice, it was one of a lifetime trip.

Too many to lis. We mainly enjoyed exploring every island with the unique birds, animals and sea life. Although it was our first time snorkeling, we loved and planning on doing more in the future.

Friendly staff

The crew was excellent. They did everything to make out vacation unforgettable. Our cabin was cleaned 3 times a day. It was hard to stop from eating all great food prepared for us. All in all, great service

Once in a lifetime trip that exceeded expectations

A fantastic trip where we swam with eagle rays, sharks, turtles and sea lions and saw penguins, friget mating rituals, flamingos and as many iguanas as you could hope to see up close and personal. We also walked to several breathtaking viewpoints of the various islands we visited. And the boat was fantastic - spotless, spacious and friendly with excellent food available. The Galapagos isn't a cheap option but if you love nature, it will be the experience of a lifetime.

Wonderful trip!

We love the trip; even when we got seasick, the crew members were very helpful. It was amazing to see the extraordinary animals that live in Galapagos (both in land and in the sea). Our guide knew many interesting facts. Thanks for a wonderful experience!

The crew and guide were fantastic and we saw so much wildlife.

  • 8.4 Very good

You must do this!

We enjoyed this trip so much, the crew was fantastic, the international group of guest blended together so well, the ship is well maintained, the excursions are all very worth it. The program is dense though. Only drawback: We ran out of beverages during the last three days, first wine, then milk, then beer, despite of having made a supply chain stop a day before. This may not happen at such prices.

We’re here to help, 24/7.

NATURAL PARADISE CRUISE REVIEWS

Cruise rating: 4.7 /5 - 9 customer reviews

Gabriela, Hope this finds you well and getting ready for the Holidays. We had a terrific trip! The islands were lovely, the weather quite good, with only 1 rainy day, and excellent snorkeling. The Natural Paradise was a gorgeous Yacht and the staff was exceptional. Karina, our on-board naturalist provided wonderful briefings and was an excellent guide both on our hikes and while snorkeling. The meals and snacks aboard the Paradise were exquisite. My group of 8 had an outstanding trip and couldn’t have been more pleased with the entire experience! Just wanted to Thank You again for the effort you put in to make this all happen. And, you certainly may pass this along to your superiors at Galapagos Travel and those associated with the Natural Paradise. Best wishes to you in all your future endeavors and Felix Navidad! Richard & Connie Calkins December 2023 4.7
Dear Gabriela, The trip was amazing and went above and beyond expectations! Many thanks for your excellent service and hope to check in in the future for another fabulous liveaboard! Greetings, Arnoud & Babettw September 2022 4.7
Hi Gabriela, Chantal and I have returned home after an INCREDIBLE vacation. Thank you for helping us plan this out and to all the support we received from you prior to the trip. A special shout out to Marie who looked after us during the Isabella stay of our vacation! Between Natures Paradise staff, Marie, and La Selva staff, everyone exceeded our expectations for looking out for us during our trip. We were also blessed with almost perfect weather, while it was chilly in the Galapagos, and hot and humid in the Amazon, we had almost no rain. And 10 plane flights in 3 weeks and not one delay! The food was delicious and there was way too much of it. But of course the highlights were all the animals, amazing landscapes, and all the education we received, which is exactly the experience we were looking for. Thank you so much! We will be sure to pass on the good word, Patten + Chantal September 2022 4.7
Hello Diana, We have just returned from our trip to the Galapagos, and I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful time we had. The boat was amazing. The food , the crew, the trips, the guide. There wasn’t anything to fault. It all far exceeded our high expectations after such a long wait. All our connections etc all went smoothly. Thank you for all your help these past few years! Dawn Farr May 2022 4.7
Dear Elizabeth I would like to express my appreciation for the great trip that you organized for us. We loved everything. The guides were great. The accommodations were excellent. The boat was fantastic. Ecuador is a beautiful country and we are in love with it. We made it back home with thousands of pictures and precious memories. Thank you very much! Elena Kalinina July 2021 4.7
Hello there Elizabeth from Guayaquil I must confess that words fail me to convey how much we enjoyed the Galapagos cruise aboard Natural Paradise. While no one can control the weather, it was perfect each and every day which added to the enjoyment. The crew were all superb individually, food was excellent, Alejandro was a treasure, as was Tania - everyone did the best job and looked after us perfectly. You'll see I've attached a couple of photos from Richard's birthday. He loved the day, it was fun filled and will live forever in our memories. Please convey our sincerest thanks once more to the crew and to Peter, everyone was so kind and helpful. And the Galapagos was overwhelming - in the best possible way. We, of course, had high expectations but they were far exceeded. Each of the activities was enthusiastically received, and even friends on board who've never spent much time snorkelling loved every minute. As you can tell, the excitement hasn't dimmed in any way and I still get emotional about it as I write this. The Avenue of the Volcanos tour was also excellent thank you. Gabriel and Marcello were great company, and we learned a lot. I must confess to being glad to be back at sea level, we all found the altitude demanding but everyone coped OK in the end. Please also convey our thanks again to them, and our best wishes. Elizabeth, you've done a terrific job for us over many months of planning and annoying you with emails etc. You've handled everything with aplomb, we can't thank you enough. I should also mention again our thanks for the chocolates and the hat for Richard. Those gifts were very thoughtful. Needless to say, we'd be happy to recommend Galapagos Travel to anyone seeking to do a similar trip. Thank you so very much. Please take care of yourself and keep well. Our warmest regards, Shane and Richard March 2019 4.7
Hi Magus I hope you are well. I just wanted to write and say a massive thank you for the most wonderful trip! The service was absolutely outstanding - from beginning to end! Your email correspondence was timely and efficient, the delivery of the Voucher to our hotel was so impressive, and the consultant that met us at the airport had already checked us in, all we had to do was drop off our luggage (which she also helped us do), the guides were fantastic, the crew was super friendly and helpful, the boat was sensational and the islands were just incredible!! We really had an unforgettable trip and I will certainly recommend Galapagos Travel Center to any and all of my friends and family who are thinking of making the trip. Thanks again and wishing you all the best in the future. Kind regards, Donna Donna August 2017 4.7
HI Rosa, Thank you so much for your help with our vacation to the Galapagos Islands. We had an amazing trip on the Natural Paradise. It couldn’t have been better!! I hope to come back someday with my husband and kids. Hope you have a wonderful weekend. Kelly Kelly May 2017 4.7
Dear Lilian, Thank you very much for recommending Natural Paradise. The whole Galapagos experience was fantastic! Marlena Cruz was an incredible guide. The crew and the services on the boat was excellent! Best regards Mona Bopanna November 2016 4.7

Natural Paradise Deals

The beach

Explore Darwin’s famed islands in style aboard the 111-foot Natural Paradise. Built in 2016 to meet the highest standards of luxury and comfort, the Natural Paradise is an intimate ship that features just nine cabins spread over three decks.

Life Aboard The Natural Paradise

A mere 16 fortunate passengers will call the Natural Paradise home during your cruise. As one of them, you will enjoy top-of-the-line facilities, modern décor, and ample social spaces for relaxation and savoring the landscapes that surround you.

Open and airy indoor spaces, including a lounge and bar, encourage you to sip a cold beverage while chatting with new friends. If you need a little pick-me-up after a busy morning of activities, head to the 24-hour coffee station.

Outdoors, a teak sundeck is filled with lounge chairs perfect for a nap in the sun, stargazing, and wildlife spotting as your cruise between stops. A soak in the Jacuzzi is an ideal way to refresh a tired body after hiking or paddling a kayak. Be sure to pick up a drink at the outdoor bar before enjoying a barbecue dinner in the alfresco dining area.

Excursions From Your Galapagos Natural Paradise Cruise

Though life aboard the Natural Paradise is elegant and comfortable, the wild Galapagos Islands await. The Natural Paradise sails a total of four itineraries. The four-day route, which features stops on far-flung Genovesa Island, and the five-day route, which highlights San Cristobal Island, are also combined to create the eight-day “A” route.

Kayak through Kicker Rock, where a narrow water channel divides a stunning rock formation that stands hundreds of feet out of the sea. Then, snorkel at Egas Port on Santiago Island, where fur seals bathe in the sun and hike along the coastline to see tide pools, lava lizards, and Galapagos hawks. To explore Isabela and Fernandina Islands, opt for the eight-day “B” itinerary. During this jam-packed cruise, you will visit eight islands, making it one of the most complete itineraries available.

You will stop at Vicente Roca Point, where you may spy fascinating Mola Mola sunfish, seahorses, and sea turtles. A stop at Moreno Point is an opportunity to hike alongside tide pools to an area where flamingoes graze in brackish water. A visit to the Arnaldo Tupiza Breeding Center, home to 330 juvenile and adult tortoises, is always a favorite.

Excellence In Service

The luxurious style of the Natural Paradise is perfectly complemented by the level of service offered onboard by a staff that is well known for their hospitality. Ten crew members, along with a dedicated cruise director, not only provide an impressive guest-to-crew ratio, but are delighted to help make every aspect of your cruise a success.

In addition to the ship’s crew, a certified bilingual naturalist guide will lead each excursion, ensuring that you can make the most of your time in the Galapagos with up-close animal encounters and educational discussions.

Whether you are looking for a leisurely cruise with plenty of opportunities to relax in a refined space, or seek a thorough introduction to the wildlife of the Galapagos, a cruise aboard the Natural Paradise is an excellent way to make memories with family and friends.

Itineraries & Prices

All itineraries are subject to change due to seasonal weather conditions (and resultant variations in river and tributary water levels) affecting accessibility to locations. Thus navigation routes, times and excursions may need to be modified at the cruise captain’s or your guide's discretion.

4 Day - Central Islands

itinerary map

Embarkation

AM:  You will arrive at Baltra Island in the morning. After passing through immigration and baggage claim, you will be met by the Natural Paradise staff and transferred to the yacht. You will be shown to your cabin where you will have some time to settle in before lunch and a welcome briefing.

PM:  Accessible by bus from Puerto Ayora, the highlands of Santa Cruz are a deep green which contrasts beautifully with the dry, lower part of the islands. The predominant vegetation in the highlands is Scalesia trees which create a lush green forest. The lava tunnels, over half a mile long, are underground, and walking through them is a unique, surreal experience. At this place, you’ll have lunch.

You will visit “Fausto Llerena” Giant Tortoises Breeding Center in Puerto Ayora, Santa Cruz Island, where giant tortoises are bred in captivity; this is home to tortoises ranging from 3-inches to 4-feet long adults. Subspecies of the giant tortoises interact with one another, and many of the older tortoises are accustomed to humans stretching out their heads for a photo opportunity. The babies are kept until they are about four-years-old and strong enough to survive on their own.

Natural Paradise’s 4-Day Itinerary Day One - Embarkation.

El Barranco & Darwin Bay

AM:  In the morning, you will visit El Barranco which is also known as Prince Phillip’s Steps. It is a steep, rocky path that leads up to a high cliff-face. A marvelous view can be appreciated from here. This site is also home to palo santo vegetation as well as red-footed boobies, short-eared lava owls, Galapagos swallows, and Galapagos doves.

PM:  In the afternoon, you will visit the white-sand coral beach of Darwin Bay which heads a half-mile trail that winds through mangroves filled with land birds. Nazca boobies, red-footed boobies, and swallow-tailed gulls can be spotted here. Further down the path, we’ll find tidal pools where sea lions swim playfully. At the end is a spectacular view of a cliff.

Natural Paradise’s 4-Day Itinerary Day Two - Nazca Booby Sighting.

Espumilla Beach, Buccaneer Cove & Egas Port

AM:  In Espumilla Beach marine iguanas lounge and the Sally Lightfoot crabs attract the hunting herons performing the dance of predator and prey right before your eyes. Snorkeling is highly recommended as you could come face to face with an octopus, moray eel, shark, and a variety of other species of tropical fish.

PM:  Buccaneer Cove is a testament to the fact that Santiago Island was once a refuge for British buccaneers. These pirates would anchor in the protected bay to make repairs and stock up on tortoise meat among other things. The cliffs, where hundreds of seabirds perch in front of the dark red sand beach, are a magnificent sight.

Egas Port, also known as James Bay, on Santiago Island is home to the curious Galapagos hawks and quick-footed Galapagos lava lizards. The trail leads to the coastline with gorgeous tide pools and grottos full of fauna. Here the Galapagos fur seals bathe in the sun. This is also a great snorkeling site.

Natural Paradise’s 4-Day Itinerary Day Three - Sally-Lightfoot Crab Close Up.

Disembarkation

AM:  The morning visit, Bachas Beach, is located on the north shore of Santa Cruz. One of the few remnants of the U.S. World War II presence in the Galapagos, a floating pier, can be seen here. You may see flamingos, Sally Lightfoot crabs, hermit crabs, black-necked stilts, and whimbrels. Sea turtles also nest on the beach.

After this final visit, you will be transferred to Baltra airport in time for your flight back to the mainland.

Natural Paradise’s 4-Day Itinerary Day Four - Bachas Beach.

5 Day - Eastern & Central Islands

itinerary map

AM:  You will arrive at San Cristobal Island in the morning. After passing through immigration and baggage claim, you will be met by the Natural Paradise staff and transferred to the yacht. You will be shown to your cabin where you will have some time to settle in before lunch and a welcome briefing.

PM : In the afternoon, you will visit Kicker Rock. This striking rock formation is located a couple of hours off the western shore of San Cristobal. Jutting out of the water, the rocks stand vertically at hundreds of feet above the ocean divided by a small channel. Although there are no landing areas, kayaking and scuba diving allow visitors to spot a variety of marine life.

Natural Paradise’s 5-Day Itinerary Day One - Embarkation.

North Seymour Island & South Plaza Island

AM:  In North Seymour, you will be able to see Galapagos sea lions, blue-footed boobies, and magnificent frigatebirds which are abundant on this island. North Seymour was formed by a series of submarine lava flows containing layers of sediment that were uplifted by tectonic activity. The island is characterized by its arid vegetation zone.

PM:  In the afternoon you will head to South Plaza Island. This small island with steep cliffs was formed by rising lava and is now covered by Opuntia cacti. It is also home to one of the largest sea lion colonies as well as colorful yellow and red land iguanas. The most characteristic plant is Sesuvium. During the rainy season, its color is greenish to a yellowish tone, and in the dry season (June - January) a bright red.

Natural Paradise’s 5-Day Itinerary Day Two - Land Iguana Up Close.

Rabida & Pinnacle Rock

AM:  Rabida Island is one of the most colorful and volcanically varied islands in the archipelago. Its famous maroon sandy beach and stunning lookouts provide wonderful landscapes. The island is a birdwatcher’s delight. Some of the rarest species are in abundance, such as nine varieties of finches, large-billed flycatchers, Galapagos hawks, and brown pelicans.

PM:  In the afternoon, you will visit Bartholomew, home of the famous Pinnacle Rock and consisting of an extinct volcano with a variety of red, orange, black, and even green volcanic formations. A trail of stairs leads to the summit of the volcano, boasting one of the best views of the islands. The beach is perfect for snorkeling and possible sightings of the Galapagos penguins.

Natural Paradise’s 5-Day Itinerary Day Three - Walking along Rabida Island..

Sullivan Bay & Dragon Hill

AM:  In the morning, you will visit Sullivan Bay located in the southeast part of Santiago. This place has elevations in the form of small volcanoes formed by the lava flows.

PM:  In the afternoon, you will head to Dragon Hill, situated on Santa Cruz Island and one of the newest visitor sites accessible to tourists in the Galapagos Islands. One of the lengthier Galapagos walking trails leads visitors up a trail to the lagoon lookout where bright flamingos, pintail ducks, and land iguanas can be spotted.

Natural Paradise’s 5-Day Itinerary Day Four - Flamingo Up Close.

AM: In the morning, as we traverse Santa Cruz Island we will visit Los Gemelos, or the Twin Craters, which are located opposite each other on both sides of the road leading from Puerto Ayora to Baltra. The name is only figurative; not real craters, these formations were created by the collapse of surface material in underground fissures and chambers. The view is breathtaking.

Natural Paradise’s 5-Day Itinerary Day Five - Disembarkation.

8 Day - Eastern & Central Islands

itinerary map

AM : You will arrive at San Cristobal Island in the morning. After passing through immigration and baggage claim, you will be met by the Natural Paradise staff and transferred to the yacht. 8 Day - Western & Central Islands

itinerary map

PM:  Off the western coast of Santa Cruz Island, Eden Islet offers visitors a great chance to see a variety of Galapagos wildlife from the dinghy ride both onshore and under the water.

Natural Paradise’s 8-Day Itinerary B Day One - Embarkation.

Vicente Roca Point & Espinoza Point

AM:  This morning we visit Vicente Roca Point. Comprised of two separate coves, this site is a large bay with spectacular sea life. Keep an eye out for seahorses, sea turtles, and sunfish.

PM:  In the afternoon, crossing the Bolivar Channel that divides Isabela and Fernandina Islands, you will land at Espinosa Point. After walking past a colony of marine iguanas and a group of sea lions, we reach the island’s highlight: the flightless cormorant nesting site. This area provides an opportunity to see the Galapagos hawk.

Natural Paradise’s 8-Day Itinerary B Day Two - Turtle Sighting.

Urbina Bay & Moreno Point

AM: In the morning, you will go to Urbina Bay which is located at the base of Alcedo Volcano on the west coast between Tagus Cove and Elizabeth Bay. This area experienced a major uplift in 1954 causing the land to rise over 16 feet. The coast expanded half a mile out leaving marine life stranded on the new shore. This area is also a great place for snorkeling.

PM: In the afternoon you will visit Moreno Point located southwest of Elizabeth Bay. Here a dry landing onto what was once owing lava is possible. The lava has left craters in its wake which formed crystal tide pools. By looking into the pools, you can peer into another world as the marine life drifts by your window. In the brackish pools of this area, you may see pink flamingos, white-cheeked pintails, and common gallinules. If you look carefully into the pools, you may see white-tip reef sharks and some sea turtles.

Natural Paradise’s 8-Day Itinerary B Day Three - White-Tipped Reef Sharks.

Sierra Negra Volcano, Wetlands & Arnaldo Tupiza Breeding Center

AM:  The morning will consist of a visit to The Sierra Negra Volcano. The site offers impressive views and the opportunity to observe up to seven species of finches and a rich display of vegetation. The north side of the caldera provides evidence of its most recent volcanic activity in 2005.

PM:  The Wetlands consist of lagoons, swamps, and mangroves and are home to a variety of unique bird species such as common stilts, whimbrels, white-cheeked pintails, and gallinules. The Wetlands can be visited on foot via a path through the swamps.

Next, you will visit the Arnaldo Tupiza Breeding Center of Isabela. In this breeding center, populations from South Isabela Sierra Negra Volcano, Cerro Azul, Cazuela, Cinco Cerros, Roca Unión, San Pedro, Tables, and Cerro Paloma have been bred in captivity. In total there are 330 juvenile and adult tortoises.

Natural Paradise’s 8-Day Itinerary B Day Four - Arnaldo Tupiza Breeding Center.

Chinese Hat Islet & Mosquera Islet

AM:  In the morning, you will visit Chinese Hat Islet. This small islet is located near the southeast coast of Santiago Island. Its name comes from the distinct shape of the islet’s summit. This small islet is a great location to view many geological formations such as lava tubes and lava flows. Some of the lava flows were formed underwater and subsequently raised above sea level. The presence of coral heads on the lava flow indicates this phenomenon.

PM:  In the afternoon, you will visit Mosquera Islet. Located between the islands of Baltra and North Seymour, this reef of rocks and coral is 160 meters across at its narrowest width. This island has one of the largest populations of sea lions and is home to many shorebirds. There have been occasional reports at this site of orcas feeding on sea lions.

Natural Paradise’s 8-Day Itinerary B Day Five - Island Landscapes.

Post Office Bay, Cormorant Point & Champion Islet

AM:  In the morning, you will visit the famous Post Office Bay. You will land on a beach and head to a spot where 18th-century whalers placed a wooden barrel used as an unofficial mailbox. The custom continues to this day with Galapagos visitors. So, don’t forget your postcards, and don’t be surprised if the postcard arrives at its destination before you even get home!

AM:  In the afternoon, you will head to Cormorant Point. Here you will enjoy a hike to a salt-water lagoon which is home to flamingos. You will also get to swim in the crystal clear waters of the Devil’s Crown. This extinct volcano peaks out of the waters just off of Floreana’s coast and offers a magnificent snorkeling experience.

PM:  Afterwards, you will visit Champion Islet, named after the whaler Andrew Champion, is a small island located just offshore Floreana Island in the southern part of the Archipelago, considered one of the most beautiful places on Galapagos for all snorkeling and diving fans and an excellent opportunity for dolphin watching.

Natural Paradise’s 8-Day Itinerary B Day Six - Lone Flamingo Sighting.

Suarez Point, Gardner Bay, Gardner Islet & Osborn Islet

AM:  In the morning, you will visit Suarez Point. On the trail, you will have the chance to see blue-footed boobies, albatrosses, and Nazca boobies. This island is the breeding site of nearly all of the world’s 12,000 pairs of waved albatrosses. You will also visit a beautiful site on the oceanfront where there is a cliff that the large albatrosses use as a launching pad! You will have the chance to see the famous blowhole that spurts water into the air. The landscape is great for photography.

PM:  In the afternoon, the excursion takes you to the spectacular Gardner Bay. After landing, you can walk across a lovely white-sand beach amongst a busy sea lion colony or dive into the water to swim with sea lion pups. You may also see curious mockingbirds on the beach.

Natural Paradise’s 8-Day Itinerary B Day Seven - Blue-Footed Boobies Communicating.

AM: In the morning you will involve an excursion to Lobos Island which means “Sea Lion Island.” This appropriately named island is ripe with noisy, playful, jolly sea lions who will welcome you to their home with open, well, fins. This island also offers great snorkeling opportunities as well as the chance to see blue-footed and Nazca boobies.

After this final visit, you will be transferred to San Cristobal airport in time for your flight back to the mainland.

Natural Paradise’s 8-Day Itinerary B Day Eight - Disembarkation.

Hear It from Travelers Who Have Explored with Us

I loved the boat, the activities, and really hats off to our trip planner, Taylor, for all she did to plan this trip for us in record time with such care and attention to detail.

Well-done and fun. Excellent accommodations on the Natural Paradise...A visit to the Galapagos was something I was eager to do. This worked out perfectly for me.

This cruise was beyond our expectations and completely wonderful. It was absolutely worth the money and I would tell anyone to go on it.

Everything was great! The only thing wrong was that we couldn’t stay longer. All the arrangements and information was spot on. We had several items to lend to fellow travelers who were less prepped! The transitions were smooth and the staff were incredible.

Lauren was very attentive to our questions and concerns from initial inquiry through booking and up to the last minute before we departed for the trip.

The trip was just amazing. I loved the boat, the activities, and really hats off to our trip planner, Taylor, for all she did to plan this trip for us in record time with such care and attention to detail.

Accommodations Review

It was so nice to have a deck! We had purchased a cruise on a different boat and we loved the upgrade. The bathroom was nice, and the bedroom was spacious and very comfortable. I was very pleased with the cabin.

Hot water was iffy. Sometimes, we had it; other times I didn't. I also had various vibrations when the boat was encountering rocky water. These things were hard to fix because they were intermittent.

Meals Review

I loved the food. It was plentiful, varied and delicious (the chef never overcooked the fish). The food was delicious: varied, plentiful, cooked to perfection and often very creative. It was also beautifully presented! And the table was always set beautifully, too

Itinerary Review

The geology -- how varied it was from island to island -- will always stick with me. I'm not a beach person, but I adored the wild variety of beach colors: black, red, yellow, peppered white. I also loved sea kayaking and snorkeling. I sometimes felt activities were too short, especially the beach visits.

I didn't like when the cruise lost half our passengers and we had to adjust to new guests to fill out the boat. I think this should be fixed so an 8-day cruise has the same people throughout, including crew members. Part of the experience is getting to know one's fellow passengers, but this was difficult when suddenly half the boat got off and new people got on.

Transportation Review

No hiccups, even though we were dealing with travel to Ecuador during Covid. Taylor kept us up-to-date on changes in testing protocols, including the dropping of PCR testing in Galapagos but its continuation for admittance back into the U.S.

AdventureSmith Explorations Review

As noted above, Taylor did an outstanding job. Way beyond the call of duty! She answered emails with punctuality and care, and she had correct and thorough answers to everything. She did an exceptional job.

Crew & Guides Review

Better than excellent. Our naturalist, Josey, was positively amazing! And the crew was so diligent, punctual and thorough. One afternoon, I wanted to swim from the beach back to the boat. To ensure my safety, Josy sat in the Zodiak/Panga while I swam alongside. So kind. She knew so much about the habits of birds. And when she didn't have a ready answer, she said so. She also kept us organized and on time. I loved her!

Well-done and fun. Excellent accommodations on the Natural Paradise. James, our guide, was extremely well-informed. We were lucky to have a diverse, interesting, and highly intelligent group of people sharing the experience on the cruise. A visit to the Galapagos was something I was eager to do. This worked out perfectly for me.

Beautifully prepared meals, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks.

James, on the Natural Paradise in Galapagos, was well informed, took care to make sure nothing was missed.

No worries about getting from one place to the next.

Tons of information before going on the trip.

Be ready to participate! This is an active trip.

Ship was lovely - nice spaces to relax, excellent upper deck. Airport hotel was excellent - particularly on the club level.

Tea and coffee available all day was especially nice. So were the snacks, they were unexpected. The food was exceptional.

We enjoyed every bit of this trip - I was particularly interested in Post Office Bay but felt every stop had something to offer. The towns where we had free time were of the least interest to me but that's because I was interested in seeing wildlife on the trip.

Everything from the initial contact through getting to the airport was exceptional.

Daniel was very professional. He was a great guide; very informative and quick to say he didn't know something (which wasn't very often).

Fellow Passengers Review

We felt really lucky with how wonderful the other participants were. We especially appreciated that there were no big groups.

Excellent information and very quick and patient to answer questions I had. Very clear communication sent. Everything went smoothly. Extremely pleased with pricing and experience.

If you'd like good pictures it's worth it to invest in renting/buying a camera with a telephoto lens (even with as close as you get to the animals). Don't shy away from going if you get motion sickness.

Quito Airport holiday Inn was lovely. Casa Gangotena in Quito was fabulous. The Natural Paradise was wonderful!

The chef on the boat was top notch. Great food all 8 days for every meal and snack!

Quito was lovely for 2 days, but the Galapagos stole our hearts. It was beyond our expectations. Wildlife and activities in such a special part of the world. We made some great connections and had a lot of fun together with the other passengers on the ship!

Our guide Alejandra Camacho was great. She was knowledgeable, friendly, flexible and fun. The crew was also very accommodating and attentive, friendly and welcoming.

So much good info - we were prepared for everything. AdventureSmith was very helpful and responsive.

Try all the activities.

Our room on Natural Paradise was much more spacious than I anticipated with a nice balcony for watching sunrise/sunsets. Nice too to have the option of drying wet clothing outside.

Unbelievable options for food every night, and always a meal unlike a previous one. I was surprised that there were always healthy options. The chef was most accommodating to anyone with food restrictions. I had wine with every meal. Our bartender, Jorge, was great. Snacks in between outings were also wonderful.

Espańola was my favorite of the islands that we visited, as was my expectation leading up to the cruise. We were there in the wrong season to see the waved albatross, but still, it was a fascinating place. Easy hiking, mostly flat, and abundant wildlife. We saw nesting Nazca boobies with chicks, many sea lions, Christmas marine iguanas, spectacular vistas of bird covered cliffs, tropic birds in flight, amazing schools of fish, sea turtles, and occasional shark when snorkeling in the warm February sea, no wet suit necessary.

Least interesting to me were the two inhabited towns that we visited, Puero Villamil on Isabela, and Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on San Cristobal, although, even these were pretty cool island towns. Great group of travelers on our cruise. Friendly bunch, many laughs, and good company on a small boat cruise.

Wow, our naturalist guide on board (Marcus) was so nice, and he provided great detail on what to expect on our excursions. His knowledge of the animals and plants was amazing. He was easy to talk to and enthusiastically answered any questions from the guests. The crew of the Natural Paradise were so very helpful and extremely friendly. I was so impressed that our cruise director, Jorge, was fluent in Chinese. Fantastic guide and great group of fellow travelers.

Our internal transport from mainland Ecuador to the Galápagos Islands was smooth and nothing unexpected happened. We had been well informed as to making connections with guides and when to be where and ready.

We felt very reassured that we were going to have a great trip and thanks to Lauren, we were confident that we were adequately prepared for this adventure.

Relax, this is a very comfortable cruise and you will be so glad that you did it.

Best of Moscow by high speed train

Sure would appreciate someone who has taken "Best of Moscow by high speed train" from St. Petersburg could please share their impressions of this shore excursion. From the description this sounds like a very long day.

Wondering how the 4 hour train trip was in terms of accommodations, etc. Also what time did you leave the ship and what time at night did you return? Were both legs of the trip on the high speed rail (I read that slower trains also travel the same tracks)?

My wife and I are considering this excursion. We thought that if we are making all the effort to go to Russia then how could we pass up going to Moscow, walking in Red Square, seeing St. Basil, etc.

If you are considering this on the 2015 June Baltic cruise on Voyager; my suggestion is don't. There is so much to do in St. Petersburg and although a train is one of my favorite ways to travel the time would be far better spent in St. P.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, this would be on the Voyager during the 2015 season but not yet sure exactly which cruise.

We did the Moscow excursion "on a different luxury line", but from your brief description it sounds very much like the same trip, so I will operate on that assumption. It is a VERY long day! We left the ship at 5:30 AM and returned at 12:30 AM. The highspeed train trip is comfortable, and while they call it "Business Class" it does not compare well to the equivalent class on say Rail Europe. When we did it in 2011, we did have highspeed both ways, and the trip back seemed much longer as the adrenaline and excitement had worn off!:D

Moscow itself is not that terribly different from any other big city in the world, but this Cold War kid never thought he would ever stand in Red Square, never mind walk the grounds of The Kremlin, or tour The Kremlin Palace, or see (but not visit) Lenin's Tomb, or visit The Armoury. But he did, and he loved every minute of it! Yes, it is a long day, and you barely scratch a scratch on the surface, but it is worth it. There is a tremendous amount to see in St. Petersburg, but every Baltic cruise goes to St. Petersburg, so you can go back if you choose to. Not every cruiseline offers you the chance to see Moscow.

RachelG

I have not personally done this tour, but our last time in St Petersburg, the private guide that we hired for a day was leading the regent tour to Moscow on the high speed train the next day. He said it was way better than the previous alternative, which was flying to Moscow and back. He said that you actually got to Moscow faster because you didn't have to deal with airline checkin etc. it did seem like a very long day to me, and there is so much to see and do in st. Petersburg that I didn't consider doing it.

We toured to Moscow from St. Petersburg via the hi-speed SAPSAN train last September, from a Baltic cruise on the Oceania Marina. You need to have a two-night, three day port call in St. Petersburg to take this tour because the tour typically leaves the ship around 5:00 - 5:30 AM and doesn't return until after midnight the next day. We didn't take the ship's tour; we made private arrangements with TravelAllRussia for three days of touring, the first and third days in St. Petersburg and the second day the tour to Moscow by train. Our cost for the private tour for three days was about the same as what the ship charged for the excursion to Moscow alone. There are a number of private tour agencies that operate in St. Petersburg and offer the Moscow train tours; we would strongly recommend them over the ship's tours.

All three days had private guides with car and driver. The second day, the driver picked us up at the ship and took us to the train, but we were alone on the train, and met in Moscow by the guide on the station platform. After our tour and dinner, we were brought back to the train and after the return train trip met by the driver and taken back to the ship. Because you are alone on the train you must have your own Russian visas.

If this is your first visit to St. Petersburg, I would agree there is much more to see there. We found Moscow somewhat a disappointment, particularly Red Square. The Kremlin and the cathedral in Red Square were also worth seeing. But the best thing we saw was the Moscow subway! I worked for the Washington Metro system back in the 1980s as it grew from 40 to 80 miles and although I was in the computer area, I learned a lot about the challenges of running a subway system. We used the Moscow system to get across the city from where we had dinner to the train station, and I was amazed at the cleanliness', speed of operation, the short headways maintained, and the courtesy of everyone involved. A very impressive experience!

We had been to St. Petersburg before, and so had the time to take a day and go to Moscow. Also, I really like trains, and the SAPSAN is a German train set running on Russian rails. Seats are like first class domestic air, spacious but not too plush or comfortable, but with enough room. Not too much recline, and almost 8 hours on the train in two shots is a lot for an old man. They come through and sell drinks, candy, etc. but the sellers don't speak English and no one around us helped, so we had just poor coffee once coming, and brought stuff with us for the trip back. Not too much to see from the train either, particularly on the return when it is night the whole way.

If you decide to go, take a private tour and avoid the overly expensive ship's tour. I'm glad we did it, but wouldn't bother to repeat the tour; we've seen Moscow.

Thanks so much to all of you for the thorough and thought insight. Yhe information you have provided is most helpful.

countflorida: Your detailed post is very helpful. We are not quite ready for a Baltic cruise but should do so within a year. Time enough to do our pre travel research, bookings and visa gathering.:) Thank you!

I did this on Seabourn. IMO DONT. Take Aeroflop (er Aeroflot). The train has non folding seats where you are literally knee to knee with your fellow passenger (facing each other). Further they don't believe in air conditioning. It's also the worlds slowed bullet train. I think I would have found more enjoyment wandering around the St. Petersburg and Moscow airports.

Countflorida,

This is a little off topic,, however we had planned a river cruise in Russia but decided we would rather stay on land and have booked about two weeks with Travel-All-Russia using the private guide and driver. I'm curious as to how you found them as a tour company.

The guides they provided were fine. We had a different guide each of the days in St. Petersburg, but both were flexible, pleasant, knowledgeable and spoke English very well, as did the guide in Moscow, incidentally. She was a bit aloof, distant, not too friendly, but otherwise fine. In fact, she was the one who suggested taking the Metro, which unexpectedly became one of the highlights of the Moscow excursion. If I have a complaint with AllTravelRussia, it is with their plan and its execution (more later).

I had requested emphasis on World War II (in Russia, the Great Patriotic War) sites and info. In scheduling us, they weren't careful about dates and a couple of the sites we wanted to see were scheduled on the third day, after we'd been to Moscow. But both sites were closed that day of the week, and that info was readily available, right on web sites describing them. Also, the included meals (lunches in St. Pete, dinner in Moscow) were not what we asked for: light meals with some choices, so we could avoid things we didn't like and choose things we did like. My request was ignored; we were given full Russian meals with a fixed menu, no choice. On the first day, a fish dish was the entre, but I am allergic to fish. Fortunately, I had the e-mail I'd sent with me and showed it to the guide, and she was able to change my entre to chicken, which was very good actually. But we didn't want a 3-4 course lunches or dinner (in Moscow). We had the guide drop the lunch the third day, although we never got any credit or refund. But, particularly in contrast to the ship's tours, the prices were so reasonable we didn't worry too much about it.

The people who were on the ship's tour to Moscow saw us boarding the same train for which they were forced to queue up and wait on the way back, and asked us what we had done. I was candid and open so they were not happy when I explained what we had arranged and particularly what it had cost. Also, when we returned to the ship, we found they had laid on a late supper for those who had gone to Moscow, so up we went and had something. Well, it turns out the late supper was supposed to be just for those on the ship's tour, but we and others on 'independent' tours, there were a dozen or more of us, crashed the party, actually got there first, and they didn't realize it until the larger group arrived and there weren't enough tables/places set. By that time, the 'independents' had all gotten served and were eating; what could they do?

A couple from the larger group sat down with us and asked us about our tour, and they were the ones I told about our arrangement and its cost. They turned to others who’d been with them and announced the details, loudly enough so the whole room heard, which started a lot of bitching and complaining. I gathered they weren't very happy with the ship's tour to begin with, and this was the straw that broke the camel's back. We finished up and beat it out of there, but overheard later that one of the excursion staff came to check on something and ran into a real mess. I caught a cold on the trip, which forced me to bed the second day following in Tallinn, so by the time we reappeared we heard about the contretemps' but apparently no one recalled who started it, thankfully.

Because of what happened to us, I would probably not use AllTravelRussia if I were to go again, or if I did, I would be sure to get confirmation of every detail of the tour. They do have good reviews generally, and we were certainly helped by their visa department and liked the guides and drivers. Their weakness, I say now with full 20:20 hindsight, is that once the sales person who plans the tour, sells it to you and collects your money, he (or she) transfers the plan to their Russia office for implementation; there is no follow-up to make sure it gets done right. And that is where our problems arose; we paid for a custom tour but got a standard package with a few destinations switched, and no one checked them out, even to see when they were open the day we were scheduled to go. If you check every detail that’s important to you, it should be OK, but that’s a hell of a way to have to do business, in my opinion.

Thank you for the 20/20 hindsight observation on your Russian tour operator, and better priced than the ship's excursion cost.

Thanks very much for the feedback.

We had the same experience as you so far as price. We originally booked a Viking Cruise but, hearing some things about the river cruises that made us unhappy, looked into other options. T-A-R cost the same or less than a cruise and had us in hotels for 11 days. We opted for the private tour. They have three tour levels, based on hotels. We originally opted for the four star as it did not cost much more than the three star hotels. Finally we decided to throw it all in and upgraded to five star. In Moscow we will be at the newly opened Kempinsky which is two blocks from Red Square. In St. Petersburg it is the Grand Hotel Europe, one of the most vaunted luxury hotels in Russia. Location is important for us as the tours use up only part of the day so being in the center of everything for our independent touring is important. As with many other cities, the less you pay, the farther out of the center of town you are.

We have been working with our salesman in D.C. and he seems to get back to us with the changes we want. He recently returned from Russia so is up on everything. When I asked they said they paid the full TA commission if I wanted so I got my usual TA on board so he is watching our back and giving us that extra level of comfort. He also set up our air, which I know pays him little or nothing, and got us business class for much less than T-A-R wanted for economy, though it took working for a while with a consolidator. He's happy to get his 10 percent on this trip without having booked it. He also took care of the trip insurance. We've been doing a lot of research on the CC sister site Trip Advisor and will write a report there. We will, I guess, become a source of info for CC members after having spent 5 days in Moscow and 6 in SP.
