The views, of course, are breathtaking, especially as the sun begins to set. It’s a memorable way to see New York – we can’t recommend it enough.

9 – 1920’s Classic Schooner Sunset Sail

1920's Classic Schooner Sunset Sail by Manhattan By Sail

Rating: ⭐️ 4.4/5 ( 40 reviews )

“We had a wonderful time! The clipper ship and the Jazz band were wonderful, and the view of Manhattan from the water was truly magical.” Felicia, Getyourguide

With the modern Freedom Tower contrasting the historic Woolworth Tower, and dozens of adjacent skyscrapers thrown into the mix, the Lower Manhattan skyline is undoubtedly stunning. There are so many things to do in Manhattan (and the Financial District, specifically) on foot, but to really appreciate its grandeur, you need to see it from the water.

Enter Manhattan By Sail and their classic 1920s schooners. As you glide down the Hudson River and then up the East, you’ll be treated to close-up views of Lady Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge and so much more.

The sunset sail is the main event; but if you’re after something different, the Shearwater also hosts brunch cruises!

There’s something extra special about heading out on the water on board a traditional sailing ship. And when you add in the stunning backdrop of a New York City sunset, it becomes an unforgettable experience. That’s why we rate this Manhattan By Sail experience as one of the best!

As you watch the sun set behind the dramatic Manhattan skyline, you’ll hear all about the city’s fascinating history and landmarks from the Manhattan By Sail  crew. It’s a low-key, relaxing alternative to those big, crowded sightseeing ships.

A quiet alternative to the bustling sightseeing cruises, this sunset boat ride promises a peaceful and relaxing way to experience the beauty of the Big Apple. The live jazz music is so lovely, the crew is very helpful, and the views — well, words simply can’t do them justice. We would certainly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a relaxing sunset sail.

“The views of the Statue of Liberty and the City at sunset were amazing. All in all – superb trip – exceeded expectations!” Jeff, Google Review

One of the more relaxed cruises that hit up the New York Harbor, Ventura invites you to bring your own snacks and drinks (wines, beers, whatever floats your boat) and enjoy the ride.

Great views, awesome crew, and 100% BYO – it doesn’t get much better than this! The Ventura team makes a conscious effort to make passengers feel at home on the boat, with comfortable seating and plenty of space to take in the sunset colors. We definitely give this tour our stamp of approval.

Since it’s only an hour or so long, it gives you plenty of time to explore the famous South Street Seaport area and (if you’re feeling like stretching your legs) walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.

This tour’s main selling point is that it’s great value for money. You can expect great views of Lower Manhattan and Lady Liberty, but it doesn’t have to take too much time out of your day. Seastreak’s NYC Sunset Cocktail Cruise – Stunning, Breathtaking, Beautiful Sites - Pictures and Videos

A tlantic Highlands, NJ: If you’re looking to impress and electrify your significant other, there’s no better way than a NYC Sunset Cocktail Cruise on a beautifully equipped and comfortable Seastreak vessel.

Piloting in the very capable hands of Capt. Dan Park, the Martha's Vineyard Express departed precisely at 6:45pm last evening from Highlands, NJ with a dark, low cloud ceiling cooled by stiff and steady southeast winds.

The crowd totaled 50 or more including families and youngsters and very enthusiastic 30-somethings.

Full disclosure; Seastreak is a marketing partner with several TAPinto news sites.

Sailing up Sandy Hook Bay, we rounded the tip of Sandy Hook, gliding past several lighthouses with the Verrazano Narrows Bridge in sight.

The Bridge turned on its lights as we approached outlining the structure, allowing you to see what an engineering marvel it truly is.

And then it got better.

Cruising up the Hudson River towards Manhattan, we entered NY Harbor looking up to slowly take in the magnificent Statue of Liberty holding up high her burning torch.

Continuing past Ellis Island, you couldn’t help but think of the more than 12 million immigrants passing through who made this great country what it is today.

As the sun was slowly setting, the Martha's Vineyard Express gradually turned south traveling towards the tip of Manhattan, we were awestruck at the twinkling lights of the world’s most iconic skyline, anchored by the towering One World Trade Center.

The scene was something like a Hollywood movie set, it seemed surreal. It was that awesome.

Sailing past the Battery with darkness drawing closer, it came into view; the 140-year-old Brooklyn Bridge, elegantly illuminated, creating a visual that was stunningly beautiful.

We continued on cruising under the Manhattan and the Williamsburg Bridges.

Looking from the stern and seeing all three from a single view, it honestly took our breath away.

Heading home, we saw the beautiful brownstones of Brooklyn Heights, fascinating high-rise architecture, and skimmed along the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and another beautiful view of the Statue of Liberty with base lights that made it shine like gold.

Truly, the best two and a half hours I’ve ever spent.

Videos are a little noisy (best to mute the sound), and rough…, Spielberg, I’m not.

  • Sue P 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Exceptional tour This was an incredible tour. Our guide was so knowledgeable about everything we saw. Seeing the city from the water was such a treat! I’ve never seen Manhattan that way. I will have to take the tour again to try to take in more of what we heard. The ship was beautiful. We did not expect such luxury! The crew was attentive and friendly. I thought the price was steep but it was truly worth it. I highly recommend it. Read more Written 25 April 2024

  • Flaladytravels 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Fantastic boat ride with incredibly knowledgeable architect guide First, about the boat itself. We were so comfortable for the almost 3 hour tour. Each party gets to sit at it's own table. The glass enclosed boat makes it easy to endure the cooler weather and there was an area at the bow to stand or sit outdoors. Your ticket entitles you to one free glass of wine or beer. After that, you can purchase food and additional drinks. We had the hummus plate, which was delicious. This tour is upscale; it is the complete opposite of the boat that takes you to visit the Statue of Liberty and packs you in like sardines! Second, was the architectural knowledge shared by an architect. He was extremely knowledgeable and personable. It was fascinating to learn about the history of so many buildings in Manhattan as well as the neighboring areas of New Jersey, Brooklyn and Queens. I highly recommend this tour to visitors to NYC as well as those who have lived there for many years! Read more Written 24 April 2024
