Oceania sailings range in price depending on such factors as cabin type, ship, destination and length of trip. Keep in mind that Oceania is an upscale brand that prides itself on gourmet cuisine and onboard service — and its rates tend to reflect that.

For those looking for a weeklong cruise in the Caribbean, a trip departing from Miami and stopping in Mexico, Belize and Honduras starts at $1,399 per person. If you’re interested in Europe, a 10-day trip from Rome to Barcelona starts at $2,470 per person. Both rates are based on double occupancy in an inside stateroom.

Those who want to make like Magellan can book the 180-day around-the-world cruise starting at $48,499. A shorter, but still luxurious, 72-day itinerary in Asia starts at $19,599. Suites will increase the cost of the cruise but add more space for you to relax in your cabin.

The cruise line has announced a new base fare package called “simply MORE,” which comes with a host of inclusions. These include round-trip flights, airport transfers, shore excursions and a beverage package for all guests in the cabin.

What is the best Oceania ship?

Oceania has eight ships in a range of sizes; the smallest accommodates just under 700 passengers, while the largest can hold up to 1,250. The cruise line has a low staff-to-passenger ratio, between 1.5 and 1.7 staff per passenger, which allows for more personalized service. Many of its ships have capacity for 684 passengers, which means they can feel less crowded than larger ships.

The best Oceania cruise ship is its newest one — Vista. Every room has a veranda, plus space for storage, rain showers in the bathrooms and upscale furnishings.

What is the newest Oceania ship?

The newest Oceania ships are the Vista, which set sail in 2023, and the Allura, which is scheduled to sail in 2025. Both of these are on the larger end of its fleet, with a capacity for 1,210 passengers.

They’re also part of a new class of Allura ships, which feature more onboard amenities and features compared with the other six ships in the fleet. Some examples of this on the Vista include four new dining venues, concierge-level staterooms for solo travelers and larger standard staterooms with over 290 square feet of space.

The mostly all-inclusive nature of Oceania sailings makes the pricing and experience simpler, since you won't need to pull out your credit card for every soda or latte. Oceania Cruises loyalty program: Oceania Club

Oceania Club members earn credits on each cruise they take, with more points awarded for longer cruises. For example, a cruise that lasts up to 24 days earns one credit, cruises for 25-34 days receive two credits, and trips longer than 158 days get 15 credits.

Earning status can take a while unless your first cruise is lengthy. If you’re looking for elite status on a cruise line, Oceania isn't especially rewarding for people who cruise occasionally.

Oceania Club elite status tiers

The Oceania Club loyalty program has seven levels:

President’s Circle. 

With your first cruise, you automatically become a Blue member after signing up. The more nights you spend on Oceania ships, the higher your status tier and benefits. Here’s how to reach each tier along with some of the best benefits at each level.

How to earn Oceania Club credits

Travelers earn credits based on the length of a sailing. Even a three-week cruise earns just one credit, which means it can take some time to reach the first elite tier — Bronze, which requires five credits. Even though they’re part of the same holding company, you won’t earn Oceania credits when sailing with Norwegian or Regent Seven Seas.

How to redeem points

There are no points to redeem with Oceania Club. The primary purpose of the program is earning credits to reach different elite status tiers. At each level, there are various benefits you receive when on a cruise.

What if a guest is sailing Solo?

Solo guests occupying a double occupancy stateroom and paying full tariff (200%) will receive the full shore excursion credit. For example, if the per stateroom credit is $800 they receive this amount. Solo guests occupying a double stateroom and paying less than full tariff (any reduced single supplement or solo stateroom) will receive a credit equal to half of the per stateroom credit. For example, if the per stateroom credit is $800 they receive a $400 credit.

Do 3rd and 4th guests receive any simply MORE amenities?

Only the 1st and 2nd guests in a stateroom or suite receive the simply MORE amenities

Can I upgrade to an all inclusive drinks package (Prestige) that is available at any time and includes wines and spirits?

You may upgrade to the Prestige Select Beverage Package for $30 per guest, per day. This may be done in advance of sailing or once on board. The upgraded package must be purchased for both guests in the stateroom.

Are there limitations on the included free, gourmet dining? Can I pay an additional fee to guarantee additional reservations?

There is no charge to dine in the restaurants, but reservations are required. Every suite and stateroom is guaranteed a set number of reservations based on voyage length and the category of suite or stateroom booked. There is no option to pay for additional reservations, but they may be obtained upon request onboard and are subject to availability.

What if I have a current reservation and wish to upgrade to simply MORE?

Please call your booking agent, or our customer care team, from the 1st July and they will provide you with the cost to upgrade to simply MORE based on the prevailing rate.

What can you expect from a cruise with Oceania Cruises ? One of the best culinary offerings on the sea, attentive service and a fleet full of elegance, of course. There is so much to discover on board the six units that make up the current Oceania Cruises fleet.

The latest arrival for Oceania Cruises, the Sirena , expanded the company’s fleet that already had five ships. Four of the ships, the R-Class units, were built between 1998 and 2000 (the Regatta , the Sirena , the Insignia and the Nautica ). The other two, the Marina and the Riviera , both in the O-Class, were added in 2010 and 2012 respectively. The brand, which is part of the NCL group, today offers cruises in all corners of the world, distinguishing itself for the variety and special attention given to the cuisine, the uniqueness of the itineraries and the perfect combination of elegance and informality on board.

The ambiance of the ships in the Oceania Cruises fleet is well-planned and elegant, however informality reigns supreme, with no gala evenings or particular guidelines to be followed. Some areas are particularly charming such as the Grand Dining Room and the main atrium of the Oceania class. The onboard currency is the US dollar and English is the official language. The concierge staff speak Italian, German, French and Spanish. For all guests on board the non-alcoholic drinks are included free of charge. There are two types of packages that can be used to create your preferred all-inclusive formula. There are fixed amounts for tipping staff and an 18% surcharge is applied for all drink consumption. The Oceania fleet features a satellite connection that allows you to make phone calls anywhere in the world (0.99$ per minute) and to search the internet with fairly good speed.

For many departures the OLife package is available which includes unlimited internet connection and your choice of various extras including: some excursions, onboard credit, and an alcoholic beverage package. The cabins in the Oceania Cruises fleet are divided into various categories. On all the ships there are both interior cabins and exterior cabins with a window, exterior cabins with a “verandah” balcony, and several Suite levels. The basic amenities include a bathroom with separate shower and bathtub, Bulgari detergents, mini-bar with free soft drinks, bathrobe and slippers, and free 24-hour room service. The Concierge level adds bath salts, free ironing of some items, a different in-cabin breakfast menu and access to the private Lounge. Every day the Oceania Cruises guests will find in their cabin: a daily program, called “Currents”, which lists the onboard activities and the hours of service, their favorite newspaper and tourist information about the ports of call as they are visited.

There are many activities organized on board, not only during sailing but also when stopped in port. The culinary laboratory proposes a wide variety of cooking lessons, while the nearby artistic laboratory offers the opportunity to try your hand with drawing and colors. The theater offers all types of performances featuring professional artists. Of course there are also the traditional quiz games, bingo and outside activities from shuffleboard to ping pong. The miniature golf course offers the possibility to enjoy the sea air and sunshine. The gym, which has all the most modern equipment, opens onto the sea and offers free drinks and supplements.

There are daily lessons offered like spinning, Pilates and yoga. The Spa is also free and offers a Turkish bath and sauna, a meditation/relaxation room, and a large outside area with a Jacuzzi on the bow. The library is one of the most beautiful rooms with a stunning sea view, a large selection of every type of book and a spectacular interior in wood with leather armchairs making it both elegant and welcoming. The casino offers many slot machines and tables where you can play roulette, dice, blackjack and poker. The onboard boutiques are full of a wide selection of clothing, jewelry and souvenirs.

The highlight of this company is without a doubt the culinary aspect. During the entire cruise, from the morning to the late evening, a series of unique opportunities and restaurants allow the guests to taste foods inspired by different cuisines and visit the different areas of the ship. Waking up is easy when you are pampered with a breakfast that is served right in your cabin or on your balcony. If you prefer the buffet, or poolside, you can have breakfast until late with all kinds of sweet and savory delicacies. Total relaxation is served up in the restaurant, where even a simple croissant arrives on porcelain dishes with silver cutlery. For lunch you can choose the informality of the buffet or the beautiful terraces on the stern, or the comfort and curated service of the Grand Dining Room. Don’t miss out on the afternoon tea time, served to the sound of violins and with a huge selection of sweet and savory snacks.

For dinner there are so many possibility. There is always the main restaurant and the buffet to enjoy. In addition there are the four specialty restaurants that offer all types of menus. You need to make a reservation, but there is no additional charge for these restaurants. Every cabin, except a few categories of Suites that have no limit, is entitled to one dinner in each restaurant per cruise. Based on availability, which needs to be checked day by day, nothing is stopping you from returning to your favorite restaurant several times.

Il Toscana, the restaurant dedicated to Italian cuisine (with some Italian staff members) serves the most famous, traditional dishes. The menu includes both meat and fish, and a choice of extra virgin olive oils and balsamic vinegars from throughout the peninsula. At the Polo Grill restaurant you can try grilled meat and fish, but also many other international dishes. The variety of meat dishes and the number of side dishes proposed is quite impressive. Don’t miss out on the Red Ginger, a restaurant inspired by Asian cuisine. The restaurant has a very pleasant atmosphere and a menu with a large selection of dishes that are all worth trying. The dinner starts with a waiter presenting you with a choice of chopsticks as well as the type of tea you prefer while dining… and ends with a rich array of dessert to choose from. And lastly, there is the updated La Cuisine Bourgeois restaurant by the award-winning French chef Jacques Pépin, a valued partner of the company. Traditional French meat and fish dishes and a dizzying array of cheeses and mouth-watering desserts are offered.

On the Oceania Cruises fleet you can choose to dine in a completely private dining room (Le Priveè) at a fixed cost for each person, with dishes off several of the other restaurants’ menus. Finally, for lovers of prestigious wines, La Reserve offers two paid menu formulas, with wine pairings curated by Wine Spectator. An interesting experience to be tried at least once during the cruise. • The price of your cruise includes lodging, meals at specialty dining venues, soft drinks, bottled water and most onboard entertainment, including internet access.
• Shore excursions, baggage handling, alcoholic beverages, travel insurance, gratuities, spa services and other onboard services (such as laundry and medical services) are not covered in the cost of your cruise. However, the new “simply MORE” program includes roundtrip airfare, airport transfers, shore excursions, and Champagne, wine and beer at lunch and dinner.
• Those who require medical care during their voyage or have an existing medical condition must notify Oceania in writing at the time of booking to ensure the cruise line can accommodate their needs.

Before You Board

• You must acquire all necessary travel documents (such as any applicable visas) for your selected itinerary. This includes a passport that is valid for a minimum of six months after the cruise ends, as well as any essential inoculation records. You may be denied boarding if you do not possess the necessary documentation. 
• Depending on your itinerary, you may need to get vaccinated before setting sail. Prior to departure, consult the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , which features a list of routine and additional vaccines you may need for certain international destinations.

Oceania Cruises Launches Simply MORE Program to Offer More Included Amenities

With free airfare, shore excursions, and an upgraded drink package, Oceania’s simply MORE aims to give cruisers an all-inclusive experience.

Premium-plus cruise line Oceania Cruises has announced a new program, simply MORE , that will offer cruisers a range of complimentary amenities including free roundtrip airfare, free airport transfers, free shore excursions, and a free beverage package for every guest.

The new program, which will apply to all new reservations beginning July 1, 2023 for sailings departing October 1, 2023 or later has been designed to elevate the guest experience according to a press release from Oceania.

Simply MORE will replace Oceania’s OLife Choice program, which offered a limited range of inclusions.

“Over the past 20 years, we have continued to adapt and evolve to the wants and needs of our valued trade partners and guests. We are always seeking to enhance the Oceania Cruises experience and raise the bar in offering the best value in luxury cruising. So, we asked our key audiences, guests, and travel partners, what they wanted, and that was simplicity, choice and value. Through our new  simply  MORE value promise, they now have all three,” said  Frank A. Del Rio , President of Oceania Cruises.

Simply MORE from Oceania will make the brand more all-inclusive

Oceania’s new  simply  MORE promise will include an easier arrival and departure experience with complimentary roundtrip airfare and airport transfers, a shore excursion credit of up to $1,600 per stateroom, and a comprehensive beverage package (available during lunch and dinner) featuring dozens of vintage Champagnes, premium wines, and international beers.

The new inclusions are in addition to Oceania’s already-included amenities, which feature gourmet dining at specialty restaurants, complimentary soft drinks including fine teas and coffees, sodas, and Vero still and sparkling water, 24-hour room service, unlimited Wi-Fi, and fitness classes.

Using the simply MORE shore excursion credit on an Oceania cruise

Oceania Cruises offers more than 8,000 unique tour choices in its 600-plus ports of call. Cruisers can choose to explore iconic cities, lesser-known gems, and tranquil islands during a single sailing thanks to the line’s destination-intensive itineraries.

With the new simply MORE program, Oceania guests will now be able to take advantage of a generous shore excursion credit to choose tours on each voyage—but the credit amount will vary based on the length of your itinerary.

Shore excursion credit amounts will range from $600 per stateroom for an itinerary of seven to nine days, up to $1,600 per stateroom on sailings of 31 to 35 days.

The included credit can be redeemed for any available excursions, including Food & Wine Trails Tours and Culinary Discovery Tours , sustainability-focused Go Green Tours as well as luxurious private tours with a dedicated car and driver.

Here’s a breakdown of what you’ll get for a free shore excursion credit on different Oceania sailing lengths, per stateroom:

Simply MORE’s new included drink package

Oceania’s new  simply  MORE concept, which replaces the brand’s OLife Choice program, will now include a beverage package featuring free premium-label Champagnes and wines along with over 20 American and international beers, during lunch and dinner.

“Our guests appreciate fine food and fine wine, and we have always included all gourmet specialty dining. Now we are thrilled to be able to offer them a generous array of wines—not just house pours—to choose from, plus Champagnes and beers to enjoy too. With over three dozen wine choices on offer, and a broad range of beers as well as premium-label sparkling wines and Champagnes, there is something to suit every palate,” Del Rio commented.

Free airfare and transfers for Oceania cruisers

Oceania’s new press release states that cruisers will enjoy free roundtrip airfare and airport transfers as part of the simply MORE program.

The brand hasn’t yet released details about potential restrictions or exclusions, so check Oceania’s Promotions Terms and Conditions page for the most updated information.

Included Wi-Fi with the simply MORE program on Oceania

With Oceania’s old OLife Choice program, the free internet amenity included one login per stateroom, except for cruisers sailing in Owner’s, Vista, and Oceania Suites, who received two logins per suite.

According to Oceania’s latest release, the new simply MORE concept promises to offer unlimited Wi-Fi for all guests.

If the credit is only for shore excursions, it is a downgrade. I usually book my own experiences while onshore or many times in the Caribbean, I just enjoy the ship and the spa. Also, I drink very little so paying a higher cruise fare for something I don’t really use is a downgrade. One reason I enjoy Oceania is you pay for what you actually want or use. If I go on Regent, I have paid for their shore excursions which are great for the older crowd, but I prefer to do my own thing and paying for something twice isn’t smart. So I have chosen Oceania over Regent or Silversea because of this

Although lots of cruisers would enjoy having the included amenities (if you were planning on buying them à la carte anyway), it doesn't make sense if you're not planning to use them. Oceania beverage packages and drinks options (updated 2024)

This guide to the Oceania beverage packages explains the various drinks options on board. Indeed, there are different Oceania drinks packages available so it is important to know what’s included when choosing the package that is right for you. In addition, there is also the option of paying per beverage.

The Oceania drinks packages can be good value, especially when you consider alcoholic beverages may not always be included in the price of your Oceania Cruises fare. There are four Oceania beverage packages:

• House Select package.
• Prestige Select package.
• House Select Upgrade.
• Wine By The Bottle package.

The House Select and Prestige Select packages offer drinks by the glass, while the other lets you choose from a selection of bottled wine.

In addition, there is also a daily Wine With Lunch promotion as well as two happy hours.

House Select package – US$39.95 per person per day

The House Select beverage package is the least expensive. It offers champagne, wine and beer by-the-glass, but only during lunch and dinner at dining venues (including in-room dining).

The price of the House Select package includes gratuities.

It is important to note that only your drinks are covered by this drinks package. In other words, you can’t order drinks for a friend using this package.

Prestige Select package – US$69.95 per person per day

The Prestige Select package is the premium Oceania drinks package. With it you can order whatever you like, including top-shelf spirits, cocktails, champagne, wine and beer. You can order these by-the-glass from any bar, restaurant or with in-room dining during bar operating hours.

The Prestige Select Oceania beverage package has recently increased in price by US$10 per person per day, but nonetheless it still represents good value for money. The package also includes gratuities.

It is important to note that only your drinks are covered by this drinks package.

House Select Upgrade – US$30 per person per day

If you have pre-purchased the House Select beverage package, or it is part of a cruise fare promotion like Simply More , you may upgrade to the Prestige Select package for an additional US$30 per person per day.

Wine By The Bottle package – from US$332.50

Oceania also have a wine by the bottle beverage package. A range of whites, reds, rosés and late-harvest wines are available.

At the time of writing almost all of these wines were new-world varieties. It’s worth noting that the champagne is a Brut Nicolasfeuillatte Rosé – a very nice drop.

All bottles are priced at US$47.50 each. The price includes gratuities. This drinks package must include at least seven bottles . It’s worth remembering that once ordered, you cannot add extra bottles to the package.

The bottles are not refundable, however you can take home any bottles that you do not drink on board.

Wine With Lunch – US$7.50 per glass + gratuity

Each day Oceania Cruises have a special Wine With Lunch promotion. This includes one white wine and one red wine offered at a reduced price. The daily Currents newsletter will advertise details of each wine.

The Wine With Lunch promotion is available in the Grand Dining Room, the Terrace Cafe and Waves Grill.

In addition to the Oceania beverage packages, there are two happy hours each day:

• 5:00pm – 6:00pm in Horizons and Martinis
• 10:30pm – 11:30pm in Horizons

During these Happy Hours guests can purchase two of the same drink for the price of one. However, the offer only applies to the standard Bar List. It excludes the Martini’s menu, as well as single malt scotches, OXs, the cocktail of the day and the wine of the day.

How does one find out what specific wines are included in the wine by the bottle package? How does a person who chooses that package access the bottles? Are they available only at one specific place and during specific hours? Can a husband and wife both access the same package?

The wines offered in the Oceania Wine By The Bottle Package change seasonally. By way of example, here is a list of the wines offered on board Oceania Regatta in March this year. All bottles are priced at USD47.50 and seven bottles are requiered for the package.

You access any of the bottles you have selected by simply alerting the sommelier in any of the restaurants.

The Oceania Wine By The Bottle Package can be consumed by a husdand and wife together. i.e. you do not need to purchase a separate wine package for each.

Hi Karen Thanks for your question. It’s a good one. I’ve spoken to the good people at Oceania Cruises and you can upgrade prior to your sailing if you purchased in advance. You may also upgrade on embarkation day.

If you wish to upgrade some days into the cruise you may do so. You will be charged for the Prestige Select package as per the number of days remaining.

The good people at Oceania Cruises tell us that you can indeed take home any bottles you don’t consume on board.

They do not have any detailed information about the beverage packages online, even if you have made a paid reservation. I found out more here than on their website – hoping its all true onboard.

It is unclear as to whether this package is only when one is at table enjoying lunch or dinner, or whether it includes pre dinner drinks. A number of our group have endeavoured to interpret the wording without success Please could you clarify?

Dear John The House Select Package includes unlimited champagne, wine and beer with your lunch and dinner meals. If you were to have a pre-dinner drink at the table it would be included. In addition: with prestige, you can order wine by the glass in your room. If, however, you call roomservice to bring, let’s say, a second or third round, they’re fast learning: the next day they’ll bring a bottle

Are non alcoholic drinks tea and coffees included in the cruise price with oceana?

If you go off the radar, bring your own wine, and pay the corkage fee, can you drink it anywhere on the ship? If I pay the corkage fee in the dining room, can I take my bottle to the lounge?

The joy of a cruise to my elderly mother is be able to have a glass of champagne when ever she wants. That’s all she will drink. Is that feasible and if so how?

Trying to work out whether to upgrade to the premium package. Please can you give some idea as to the price of a G&T and a Margarita?

Thank you for your question. When I last sailed with Oceania Cruises in August 2019 the price of a Margarita was US$11.00. From memory a G&T was about the same. Indeed, most basic cocktails like Mai Tai, Aperol Spritz, Long Island Ice Tea, Tequila Sunrise and Manhattan range from US$11.00 to US$11.25. Hope this helps with your decision.

Leaving on Cruise Feb 1 – the packages are not worth the money for me. do you know prices for beer per the bottle and wine by the glass ?? this is the route we will be taking for our drinks. By chance any picture of the drink menu?

In August 2019 the price of a Corona or Heiniken beer was US$7.50. A Budweiser costs US$6.50. Oceania have a selection of American, Australian, Argentinean and European wines. These range in price from US$10 to US$11.50 per glass.

Cocktails start from US$10.00

Thank you for your question. If you consume the wine in your stateroom there is no corkage fee. However, if you drink it in a public area or dining venue the corkage fee is typically US$25.

Hi is bottled water included in the house beverage package? And is sparkling water included?

Thanks for your question. Oceania Cruises include both still and sparkling water in your cruise fare, as well as coffee and tea. There is no extra charge for any of these beverages regardless of whether or not you have a drinks package.

If we purchase the Prestige Select package, how are we identified as having the package? Do we wear wrist bands? Give our suite number each time?

Thank you for your question – it’s a good one. There are no wrist bands, rather you are issued with a new room key card which indicates your beverage package. You give this to the server each time you order a drink.

Oceania now allows each cabin to bring six bottles of wine on the ship when they board. But it is unclear whether one can also bring wine onboard when coming back from a port. Do you know whether this is possible? (By the way, this page is really informative and helpful — thanks)

According to the onboard literature, guests can bring 6 bottles of wine per stateroom on board during the voyage, for consumption in your stateroom or suite. A corkage fee will apply.

We are cruising in September 2020 with Oceania and have the basic drinks package with lunch and dinner included. We would like to upgrade to the premium package. Can you tell me how much this would be and can we buy before the cruise or once we are on board.

We are cruising this summer, and are trying to figure out if the wines included in the Prestige package are worth the extra cost over the House package. I can’t find a list anywhere that shows the different wine offerings for the two packages – is this published anywhere? We generally drink California and Oregon U.S. wines and French Champagnes, ranging from $80 – $120 per bottle, but are open to trying new things.

Thanks for your question. The wines included in the House Select are generally the same as those offered in the Prestige package. The main difference is that the House Select package only lets you order at lunch and dinner, whereas the Prestige package lets you order at any time during bar hours. The wines on offer change semi-regularly depending on reprovisioning.

Also, the Prestige package offers premium spirits and cocktails (like those served from the Martini list in Martinis Bar).

Hi Jason, As I understand, the House Select Package is only for the dining experience. When on vacation we generally have hors d’oeuvres in one place and dinner in another place.Is it possible to have drinks and hors d’oeuvres in one restaurant and have dinner in another restaurant aboard ship?

That’s an interesting question. My understanding is that, yes, you could have drinks and hors d’oeuvres in one restaurant and dinner in another. Bare in mind that some dining venues do require reservations.

We are choosing a cruise that offers a beverage package as one of the O-life choices, the other choices are $1000 shipboard credit or 10 free excursions. If we choose the beverage package does that cover both my husband and myself for unlimited wine and beer during lunch and dinner or only one person?

Thank you for your inquiry. Generally speaking, if you book an Oceania cruise with O-life Choices the amenities are per stateroom. In other words, a beverage package amenity would cover all guests in that stateroom. However, I would advise you to confirm this with your travel advisor.

Jason I am planning a Oceania cruise and was reading the new 2020 beverage information. However I am perplexed. On Feb 6 you stated a guest can bring 6 bottles of wine on board for room consumption but there IS a corkage fee.

Then on 2/13 you stated if you consume wine you brought on board in your room there is no corkage fee.

Thanks for your comment. Indeed, what is and isn’t included in cruise line beverage packages can be tricky to ascertain and is changeable. That said Oceania presently allow you consume bottles wine in your stateroom without a corkage fee, but if you take the bottle to a public area or dining venue a corkage fee of US$25 applies.

Thank you for your question and your kind words. I’ve had to do some digging to find an authorititive answer. It’s good news! Both guests are not required to have the same beverage package. One guests may choose the House Select package, while the other can have the Prestige Select package. The important point is that both guests must have at least one beverage package each.

Hi Sorry if you have covered this already. Are you allowed to take spirits on board for consumption in your cabin. We will have a standard drinks package as part of our package but it does seem very restricting i e drinks only in the dining areas with meals. Many thanks.

Thank you for your question. According to the onboard literature, guests can bring 6 bottles of wine per stateroom on board during the voyage for consumption in the stateroom or suite. A corkage fee will apply if you consume the wine in one of the dining venues or bar areas. However, Oceania Cruises reserves the right to prohibit and retain other alcoholic beverages bought ashore for consumption on board the vessel.

How large is ‘a glass of wine’ bought at the bar or at dinner?

The wines on Oceania are generally poured at the table, rather than being measured (i.e. you simply order a glass of wine, instead of small or large).

Adding to your answer about a bottle of spirits in the room: One can order from the Bon Voyage list for a bottle (or more) of spirits for the room. Last voyage I found a bottle of Balvenie 15 yr old single malt priced well below the market price at home. Googling Oceania Bon Voyage gifts and scrolling to the section From The Bar will get you the list, send it to your stateroom and enjoy. Cheers.

Thanks for your question. The fridge is a typical ‘bar fridge’ size. In my experience there was enough space for at least one bottle of bubbles.

When I last sailed with Oceania (just before the pandemic) I was not charged a service fee for ordering in-room beverages on the Prestige Select package.

Thank you for your question. Yes, you can buy a bottle of wine at dinner. Bottles of wine are typically priced from USD50 and up. Indeed, the menu in the Grand Dining Room often includes a recommended red and white wine bottle. You could also choose from the wine list.

Also, Oceania sometimes have Bin End Wines on sale with up to 30% discount on selected bottles.

You should be able to enjoy your bottle in the room if you don’t finish it at dinner. However, you might have to ask the waiter to have it sent to the room rather than taking it yourself. Health and safety regualtions can preclude passengers carrying bottles of wine through common areas.

If you consume the wine in your stateroom there is no corkage fee. However, if you drink it in a public area or dining venue there will be a corkage fee of about US$25.

Do you know the reason that bottles in the wine package must be selected in advance? I would think you buy a 7 bottle package, see what you will order for dinner, and select a bottle from the list that would pair with the food.

If you choose the 7 bottle offering, I kept my list with me. Then after ordering dinner I asked for the bottle of wine to suit my dinner selection. The way O works is that if you open a bottle you have the choice of taking it with you (via delivery to cabin) or letting O store it by cabin number. So next time you want that wine ANYWHERE on the ship you simply ask for that bottle. if you didn’t finish it you can request it. BUT it takes maybe 10-15 minutes to fetch it. I opened carry-on wines in my cabin often, then took a large glass (which I stopped by a bar to ask for a nice wine glass) to the dining room as if I had bought it in one of the bars. It was NO problem. The maitre d’ even carried it to the table for me:)

Thank you for your question. When I last sale on Oceania Cruises (July 2022) VSOP cognac was included in the Prestige package. Also, Irish coffee should also be included as it is simply coffee with a spirit.

Yes, on my most recent sailing (July 2022), VSOP Cognac was available on the Prestige Select package.

If you have either the House Select or Prestige Select beverage package you get a 15% saving on bottles from the Wine List, as well as a 20% saving on the La Reserve wine pairing dinner. The bottles that come with your suite will usually vary depending on where and when you sail.

Can you buy a bbottle of Vodka in port and carry it onboard for the Cabin?

Restrictions on bringing alcohol on board are most often in force at embarkation. Typically you may bring alcohol on board if purchased in a port-of-call. In my expereince Oceania have not asked any questions when I’ve returned from shore with a bottle of local spirits.

I don’t drink alcohol so my question is about the free soft drinks on board please. (1) Do they serve Coke on board; and (2) If yes, does it come in cans/bottles or it is only served out of a machine?

Yes, you are correct about the new Simply More offering. I am currently sailing on Riviera and can confirm that the House Select Upgrade is charged at USD30 per person per day to your shipboard account. You can upgrade to this from the House Select Package included in the Simple More cruise fare. You may do this in advance through your travel advisor or once on board.

If, after paying $25 corkage fee, we don’t finish the whole wine bottle during dinner, can we bring the same partially full bottle for the next meal and don’t incur another “corkage” fee? When we travelled on Viking ,they would store partially full bottle for us in the special room after labeling it and giving us a special receipt to be used at the next meal.

Crikey I may be late to ask now. Ive read a few times about the packages ect and im looking forward so booking. There’s 1 question about the alcohol select.. ‘During open hours’ May seems strange to some but im an insomniac and can sometimes sleep through a day (awful, I know). Im willing to pay for the drinks package but any idea what times the bars are open and closed? I think id just pay anyway but are they closed through the night? Isnt there food or buffet in the night? Maybe im more suitable to a previous more 24/7 cruise line. (Many thanks).

Oceania Cruises’ Oceania Club loyalty program: The ultimate guide

Staying loyal to Oceania Cruises can really pay off — and it can do so relatively quickly.

Upon reaching just the second tier of the Oceania Club, the line's seven-tier frequent cruiser program, you'll start getting cash back in the form of a $100 onboard spending credit every time you cruise. As you rise through the tiers, the dollar amount you'll receive in a spending credit will also rise — to fabulously generous levels.

Specifically, upon reaching the Silver and Gold tiers of the program, your onboard credit for every cruise will jump to $250 and then $400, respectively; these are significant sums that you can spend on anything from drinks to spa treatments. The next three tiers of the program take the onboard credits even higher, to a maximum of $1,000 per cruise once you reach the President's Circle tier.

These onboard spending credits are at the core of the reward structure for the Oceania Club loyalty program, and they are wonderful in their simplicity. As you rise through the ranks of the program and show Oceania more loyalty, the growing value of the spending credits you receive will give you the means to choose more and more perks while on board Oceania ships.

If you're a wine connoisseur, you can use the credits to buy yourself nice bottles of wine with meals. If you're not a big drinker, you can spend the money on spa treatments. If spa treatments aren't for you, you can use the credit for shore excursions or some other extra-charge item on board.

Still, onboard credits aren't all you'll get by showing Oceania loyalty. Higher tiers of the program also offer such perks as priority disembarkation in ports, complimentary gratuities, credits for spa treatments and invitations to special onboard events.

Additionally, upon reaching each of the top three tiers of the program, members will receive one of the truly spectacular rewards in the cruise loyalty program universe: a free cruise.

Ways to earn points

The currency system of the Oceania Club is the "credit," and the process of earning credits is relatively straightforward. You get one or more credits for every cruise you take based on how long that cruise is.

You will get one credit for a cruise if the sailing is up to 24 days in length. If the cruise is longer than that, you will earn credits according to the following table:

• Sailings of 25-34 days: 2 credits
• Sailings of 35-44 days: 3 credits
• Sailings of 45-54 days: 4 credits
• Sailings of 55-64 days: 5 credits
• Sailings of 65-99 days: 7 credits
• Sailings of 100-157 days: 10 credits
• Sailings of 158-plus days: 15 credits

In other words, if you take a typical Oceania cruise that is 10 nights long, you will get one credit. But if you sign up for the line's 85-day voyage from Papeete, Tahiti, to Cape Town, South Africa, scheduled for 2025, you'll get seven credits. If you try one of the line's famously long around-the-world sailings, which last 180 days or more, you'll get the maximum of 15 credits for just that one voyage.

Program tiers and benefits

There are seven tiers to the Oceania Club program:

• Blue (1-4 credits)
• Bronze (5-9 credits)
• Silver (10-14 credits)
• Gold (15-19 credits)
• Platinum (20-39 credits)
• Diamond (40-59 credits)
• President's Circle (60-plus credits)

As is typical for cruise line loyalty programs, the first tier of the Oceania Club program doesn't come with all that many valuable perks.

Blue-level members receive:

• A membership pin
• An invitation to an onboard cocktail reception
• Exclusive member-only offers
• Advance notice on new itineraries
• 10% savings on Oceania logo merchandise
• A subscription to Oceania's magazine, OLife

It isn't until you reach the second tier of the program (Bronze) that you start getting those onboard credits mentioned above. Upon reaching the Bronze tier, you'll get a $100 shipboard credit every time you cruise.

Additionally, Bronze tier members get a 30% discount on WaveNet internet services, a complimentary bottle of Oceania Club private label wine and a complimentary member cap and tote bag.

Moving up to the Bronze tier is relatively easy. You'll need five credits, which you could earn by taking five relatively short cruises or just a single 55-day voyage on an Oceania ship.

The elite level that makes a difference

In our view, the Silver level is where being a loyal Oceania customer really starts paying off.

Once you reach Silver, you'll get all the above plus an additional $150 shipboard credit (at this point, your onboard credit is now at $250 per cruise). You'll also get complimentary pre-paid gratuities on every cruise you take. The latter perk is a big deal as Oceania has the highest automatic gratuity levies in the business — $18 to $23 per person, per day, depending on your cabin category.

Silver status also brings VIP shore excursion check-in. This perk helps you get the most out of every port call since you'll be among the first to disembark.

Other Silver perks include a 10% discount on Oceania Cruises logo merchandise and a 10% discount on the line's Prestige Select beverage packages.

Once you hit the Gold tier, you'll get all that plus an additional $150 in shipboard credit and two complimentary Custom Air Fee Waivers — a $398 value. Now your onboard credit is up to $400 per cruise.

The Gold tier also brings two complimentary $150 Aquamar Spa treatment credits.

Reaching the Silver tier of the Oceania Club program isn't too difficult if you start to become an Oceania regular. You'll need 10 credits, which equates to 10 shorter cruises or, say, two 55-night cruises. If you sign up for one of the line's longer, 100-day-plus sailings, you'll reach the Silver tier in just a single cruise.

Best elite perk

The ultimate perk for Oceania Club loyalty program members comes upon reaching the Platinum tier. Once you hit this level, your very next cruise is free — with some caveats.

The fine print on this perk notes that the free cruise is based on double occupancy, subject to availability at the time of booking; the price also excludes government taxes and fees, so you'll still have to pay for those. The cruise also cannot exceed 14 days in length and cannot be a segment of an around-the-world voyage. Still, that's a pretty great perk, right?

It gets even better. Once you hit the Diamond tier of the Oceania Club program, you get another free cruise. You get a third free cruise when you hit the President's Circle tier.

Other perks of the Platinum tier include an additional $100 shipboard credit (at this point, you're up to $500 per cruise in credits), an invitation to a special dinner with officers when you sail and priority check-in at the terminal at the start of your cruise.

Once you reach the Diamond tier, in addition to another free cruise, you will receive all of the above, plus:

• An additional $250 shipboard credit (for $750 in total)
• A complimentary wine tasting
• Two additional $50 Aquamar Spa treatment credits (for a total of $400 in credits)

Additional perks that come with the top President's Circle tier include yet another bump up in onboard credit — to a cool $1,000 per cruise.

President's Circle members also get a complimentary Prestige Select Beverage Package and complimentary laundry service.

Reaching the Platinum level of the Oceania Club program can take a few years if you sail mostly shorter voyages and only cruise a few times a year. You need 20 credits, which equates to 20 shorter cruises. As with the other tiers, you can hit the Platinum relatively quickly if you gravitate to longer sailings.

Oceania is known for some of the longest cruises in the industry, including regular 180-day-plus world sailings that span the globe. Sign up for one of those, and the 15 credits you receive will put you 75% of the way toward Platinum status.

Note that, as is often the case with cruise line loyalty programs, Oceania customers do not have to requalify for status each year. Oceania Club members keep their points at the end of each year and continue to accrue points indefinitely. That means that someone who hits President's Circle status will remain at that top-tier level forever (or until Oceania makes a change to the program).

Such "forever status" is one of the great allures of cruise line frequent cruiser programs. Many airline frequent flyer programs, by contrast, require loyalty members to requalify for status each year.

Bottom line

With its promise of generous onboard spending credits and free cruises upon reaching higher tiers, the Oceania Club is one of the best loyalty programs in the cruise world. It's a particularly alluring program compared to other upscale and relatively small-ship lines. Some small-ship lines don't have any loyalty program at all, or they have only a modest program. Oceania's loyalty program is robust.

We normally use Princess but if the Oceania price is inclusive it seems it would be worth switching. The quality of the food on Princess has declined greatly the last few years

Excursions are not included on O, nor is liquor. Tips MAY be included if you can get a deal from your travel agent. What is included on O, but not on Princess are soft drinks and water. Having had one experience on Princess, we were very glad to return to O. One of the areas that O definitely outshines Princess is food. Princess can't hold a candle to O. Also, on Princess we had a very hard time securing reservations each evening. The lines were always long and they just didn't have the reservation system down pat. On O, you will almost never wait for a table and the specialty restaurants do not cost extra! It is definitely a step up. Try it, you'll like it!!

None of the above are included. There is never an extra charge for food or soft drinks. The restaurants are superb and you can always get enough time in the specialty restaurants with a bit of flexibility. There are mandatory gratuities. Often a travel agent will provide an onboard credit or contribute towards gratuities, It depends on how well a cruise is selling. prices vary depending on demand. 2 for 1 off the 'rack rate' with free air is standard. it is sometimes better to arrange your own air in which case there is a credit. Shore excursions and hotel transfers can also be done on your own.

Alcohol, excursions, casino, Internet, spa treatments & laundry are NOT included

Anything you buy in the shops are NOT included

There are no photographers or art auctions on O so no constant selling

No formal nights, open seating, no children's programs

If you want all inclusive look at Regent cruises

Specialty restaurants are included?? Wow that's awesome!

We just come back from a wonderful cruise on the Regatta. We spent 25 days from Miami to Manaus (back and forth).Everything is GREAT on that small ship (650 passengers). We always ate very very well. We took some land excursions from the ship and we did some by ourselves. Both way were perfect but much cheaper, if we do by our own.

We are two french canadian people from Montreal who did our first cruise on Oceania: they are the BEST ! believe me.

We will go , next november, for 30 days, on the Marina (Regatta's sister) from Dubai to Cap Town (south africa). It should be an other nice cruise by Oceania.

Coffee, including cappucino, is covered by your cruise fare. However, I must warn you that the regular coffee is terrible. Everyone commented on that and I'm not sure what Oceania does but it does not taste like normal coffee. Almost reminded me of a chicory coffee or something along that order.

We like French press coffee from freshly ground beans, that's all we drink at home. So we were advised to order expresso, which was great! In the morning, from room service, I ordered a pot of expresso and a pot of hot water. We poured the two into our cups and it was a perfect and good cup of standard strength coffee.

Almost reminded me of a chicory coffee or something along that order.   We like French press coffee from freshly ground beans, that's all we drink at home. So we were advised to order expresso, which was great! In the morning, from room service, I ordered a pot of expresso and a pot of hot water. We poured the two into our cups and it was a perfect and good cup of standard strength coffee.

Chacun a son gout. The regular coffee is just fine.

How do you clean out the French press? Do you rinse it down the drain or flush the grounds?

Privee is now limited to 8 persons for $1000 and the wine is not included.

For that kind of money I can think of a lot of restaurants on land I'd rather dine in. It's not like there aren't plenty of options on Marina.

Oceania Cruises Review: Northern Islands and Gems

I f you're looking at the Northern Islands and Gems itinerary, this Oceania cruises review will answer your questions about a vacation on this luxury mid-sized ship.

The Northern Islands and Gems itinerary on the Oceania Marina was spectacular.

My favorite country was Belgium, so if you're planning to go, check out what to do in Bruges in one day . You'll love this excursion!

On this nine-night cruise, we visited the Shetland and Orkney Islands, Scotland, Belgium, The Netherlands, and England.

Yes, it was a dream itinerary. I had never been to the United Kingdom, so this trip was extra special for me.

Oceania cruises has a reputation for luxury at sea, and for good reason. The rooms were spacious and we loved our verandah.

This trip is a great way to get away from it all and be surrounded by natural and historic beauty.

What We Loved About Cruising with Oceania

Oceania is a luxury division under the Norwegian Cruise Line company. They specialize in smaller ships which means that they can provide a more intimate setting and personalized attention.

Here are some of the top reasons why we loved this cruise.

• This ship is a beauty, and though it seemed large, it never felt crowded. 
• With a maximum of 1,250 guests, there was never much of a line for excursions. 
• The food on the ship was really good and exceptional at Red Ginger.
• Spending a day in Hamburg before and a day in London after the cruise was so much fun.
• The ports were exciting and places we had never visited.

The Marina Ship

The Oceania Marina has twelve decks of public spaces, with five of those decks devoted to cabins.

On the public area decks are all the features you’d want from a luxury cruise vessel. 

Some of the features of this beautiful ship include those you’d expect on a cruise, like a large main dining room, casual dining and several specialty restaurants.

We also had access to shopping, a casino, pool deck and sundeck with hot tubs, and the Aquamar Spa.

But the Marina also offers unique spaces like a library, artist loft, and culinary center.

My husband and I each got books on the first day and enjoyed them on sea day.

For those who like recreation, there's putting green, deck games area with shuffleboard and a paddle tennis court.

Our cruise only featured one sea day, but there are plenty of activities on board the ship for sailings with additional sea days. 

I personally love sea days! It gives me time to catch up on things and really explore the ship.

We had a Concierge Level Veranda Stateroom for our sailing, and it was lovely.

There are options to have a larger room if you need more space as well as something a little smaller if you need to save money.

The Concierge Level Stateroom features either a queen-size Tranquility bed or two twin beds with luxury linens, a sofa and chair, and bathrooms with marble and granite features.

This level stateroom actually has many of the same amenities as the Penthouse Suites.

I also loved that the bathroom had two mirrored storage cabinets at the sink, so my husband and I both had a place to store our toiletries.

We also had a full-sized tub, which is a first for me on a ship.

Included in the Concierge Level is free laundry service, access to the Concierge Lounge, and a dedicated Concierge to help you with reservations and excursions.

You also have unlimited access to the Aquamar Spa Terrace, which is a little more quiet and relaxing than the main pool.

There’s also the private veranda with cashmere blankets, perfect for sitting back and watching the world as you sail by.

With 800 crew members on board, there’s always someone around to help with your every need.

We had great service throughout our trip, something that might not be as easy to provide on larger ships.

With fewer passengers than some of the large cruise ships, we found we ran into friends that we made on the ship in some of our favorite spots like the Barista, the library, and the Terrace Café.

Things to Do Onboard Marina

On board the Marina, there are plenty of activities to keep you busy and places to explore.

Culinary Classes

A dedicated culinary center on deck 12 lets you try your hand at cooking works of art, from fresh pasta to traditional French cuisine. 

I didn't have time to do this and I regret it! Next time!

Artist Loft

Love to be creative? The Artist Loft on Deck 12 has an artist in residence program where professional artists teach classes about their skills.

It may be painting, drawing, photography, or sculpture, but this hands-on experience is a fantastic offering not found on many other cruise lines.

There’s nothing like curling up with a good book. The library on deck 14 contains more than 2,000 books and magazines, so there’s always something that you can enjoy.

The relaxing atmosphere of the library seating area is a great getaway for some cozy down time.

Guest Speaker s

Special guest speakers are on board every sailing, providing a unique insight into the history, culture, and people of the areas that your cruise will visit.

This sailing, it was a treat to listen to Graeme Payne as part of the OLife Enrichment Series.

Payne is a travel journalist and knew so much about the ports we were visiting. This is one of the activities you'll want to get to early or you'll be standing!

Upper Deck Sports

On the upper decks, you’ll find a putting green, bocce and croquet court, running/walking track, shuffleboard, and a pickleball court.

Make some new friends and enjoy some friendly competition!

Try your luck at the ship’s casino. With table games, video poker, slots, and more, there’s tons of fun and excitement on board.

Not a casino expert? No worries: Oceania offers free gaming lessons to help you make the most of your time. 

Onboard Shows

From upscale live music performances to dazzling stage shows, there’s a little something for everyone in the evening entertainment.

Some of the shows include a Broadway revue, sock hop style songs of the 50s and 60s, and ballroom dance shows that make you want to get up and move.

There is also a comedian on a couple of different nights. There really is something for everyone.

The Aquamar Spa + Vitality Center offers relaxing massages and spa treatments like facials and lifestyle consultations. The Aquamar Spa Terrace is lovely as well.

In addition, there’s a state-of-the-art fitness center that offers a great place to work out as well as free fitness classes to learn something new.

Duty-free shopping is a mainstay of the cruise industry, and you'll get the opportunity to shop on this cruise, too.

Oceania has a variety of boutique shops selling everything from watches and fine jewelry to fragrances, designer bags, and of course Oceania Cruise logo wear.

Bars and Lounges

Whether you’re looking for a cocktail lounge with a view for an afternoon cocktail or an upscale bar for a pre-dinner drink, there’s a variety of bars and lounges to enjoy on the ship.

Meals Onboard Oceania Marina

Cruise ships are known for their high quality and ample food, and the dining on Oceania Marina is no exception.

What's really remarkable about Oceania is that specialty dining is included! Many cruise lines upcharge for specialty restaurants, but you won't have to worry about that on Oceania.

Grand Dining Room

The Grand Dining Room is the main sit-down dining location, featuring daily menus with an upscale vibe in a leisurely dining experience.

This restaurant features Jacques Pépin's signature dishes, continental creations, and a new healthier menu called Aquamar Vitality Cuisine.

There's also a Chef's Tasting Menu. The menu changes daily, but if you had something you really loved earlier in the cruise, ask if they can do it again. Often, they will!

Seating is open in the Grand Dining Room, so no reservations are needed.

I ordered the Taste of Asia Hoisin Duck Salad and the Tamarind Braised Grouper, which were both wonderful.

The Grouper was cooked perfectly, the veggies were still crisp, and the sauce was lightly sweet. I ended with Mango Sticky Rice.

We paired our meal with a bottle of 2011 Cuvée Antique Hermitage.

TIP: The Bin End Wine List offers lower prices on bottles. My husband always compares prices with a wine app, and these wines are incredibly priced. Make sure to take a look as soon as your seated.

Featuring recipes from the mothers and grandmothers of the culinary staff, Tuscana is an Italian restaurant that provides elegant food in a more formal setting.

Signature dishes include octopus carpaccio and comforting lasagna alforno alla Bolognese. 

I went with the starter of beef carpaccio (one of my favorites) and it was seasoned well and delicious. The greens with fresh parmesan went perfectly with the beef.

Next was Linguine Cioppino; linguine pasta with a light white wine and cherry tomato sauce topped with a variety of fresh seafood.

The seafood was so tender and the sauce was the perfect accompaniment.

The setting at Polo Grill Steakhouse is reminiscent of a country club steakhouse.

This menu offers mouthwatering Black Angus steaks and succulent seafood dishes, such as grilled swordfish.

My husband started with the warm foie gras with mushrooms in a puff pastry crust.

I had the roasted beetroot and garlic goat cheese Napoleon and it was tasty and such a pretty dish.

For our main dishes, I had a ribeye steak and my husband had the below Polo Grill Surf and Turf.

To be honest, we both felt this was our least favorite restaurant.

Jacques is both a feast for the eyes, with the heirloom antique decor, and a feast for the senses with delicious French cuisine.

While the dishes are familiar, with things like rotisserie chicken and sea bass, each dish is reinterpreted by Master Chef Pépin.

The Maryland Lump Crabmeat Salad was a nice surprise in the preparation, and was delicious.

For my warm hors d'oeuvre I had the poached scallop gnocchi with lobster in a creamy white wine sauce.

The gnocchi was tender and the seafood perfectly cooked.

For my main dish, I ordered the scallops over fondant potatoes. It was so good, but this was a lot of rich food!

I did not have dessert that night!

The striking red and ebony interior gives a nod to aspects of feng shui.

The excellent food, a pan-Asian assortment, features equally stunning flavor blends.

From beef penang with coconut rice to Thai vegetable curry, this is an amazing option if you like carefully crafted blends of flavors.

We enjoyed the sashimi and sushi.

The watermelon and duck salad was insanely good.

The Miso Glazed Sea Bass was the best fish dish I've ever eaten, and I eat a lot of fish!

My husband and I both thought the culinary offerings at Red Ginger were incredible. This was our favorite restaurant on the ship.

Terrace Caf é

The Terrace Café is open for all meals and provides casual dining options throughout the day. This is the buffet on the ship, but if you're not a buffet person, don't write it off.

We actually really enjoyed Terrace Café. If you've been a reader for any length of time, you know how much I love appetizers.

Being able to have just a bite or two of several different dishes is so much more fun for me than sitting down to a big meal.

At Terrace Café, you can choose a plate full of appetizers for any meal as there are so many to choose from.

For lunch, my husband and I would head there for a table overlooking the sea, a glass of wine, and share the appetizers we had chosen.

One afternoon we had grilled lobster. Such a nice surprise.

We enjoyed the sushi, shrimp, crostini with different toppings, and bruschetta. The charcuterie section was also always delicious.

From a variety of breakfast options to pizza, sushi, and other international delights, along with stunning views, Terrace Cafe is one dining location you’ll love to come back to.

Waves Grill

Waves Grill is another one of the casual dining spots on the Marina, but the focus here is on American-inspired foods.

This is where to go when you're in the mood for a 100% Black Angus burger and fries.

Waves Grill also has a Surf and Turf Sandwich, as well as a Cuban and a Reuben. Stop by and take a look.

It's hard to eat everywhere with so many choices, especially if you're out on excursions every day.

Do make sure to save room for one of their incredible ice cream creations! 

You'll find Waves Grill and Waves Bar near the pool area.

Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea is served daily at four o’clock. It is everything you’d expect with finger sandwiches, scones, petits fours, and more.

Relax to the soothing sounds of a classical string quartet as you enjoy this time-honored tradition.

I'm sorry to say I didn't make it to the tea, and I just love formal teas. It's a great idea to make a list of the things you want to do on the first day so you don't miss your favorites. I'll have to do this next time!

Looking for coffee to help keep you going? Baristas provides illy lattes, cappuccinos, and espressos.

Even better? They’re complimentary. Make sure to grab a homemade biscotti while you are there.

Note: They do not serve regular coffee here. I saw people come in every day asking for it. Head to Terrace Café for that.

Privee & La Reserve

Marina offers two private dining experiences, Privee and La Reserve.

With exceptional food and wine pairings, including the Dom Perignon experience, these upcharge, small group meals have incredible food in an unforgettable experience.

We were able to attend La Reserve one evening. The first course was a Bay Scallop Teriyaki Seared right in front of us on a Riverstone served with a wonderful Rosé Champagne.

This preparation was another first for me, and the scallop was seared perfectly. La Reserve really is some of the finest cuisine you’ll find on the ship.

It not just a meal, but an experience! The wines were lovely, as well.

We were excited to see Châteauneuf-du-Pape on the menu, which we had visited years ago.

Room Service

Don't forget included room service! This is especially great for busy mornings when you have an early excursion.

We ordered coffee, muffins, and juice almost every day so we could take our time getting ready for the day.

Room Service is included in all fares, 24 hours per day.

Excursions on the Northern Islands and Gems Sailing

As amazing as the cruise ship is, a good part of the enjoyment of cruising is visiting new places each day.

Make sure you do your research before your booking window for shore excursions opens to make sure you get the best excursion for your interest.

Below is a list of the excursions we experienced.

Jarlshof & Scenic Mainland Drive

This tour took us all over the Shetland islands to explore some of the history of this quaint setting.

We were able to visit an archeological site where a Viking village was once located as well as a village history center.

A highlight of the trip was seeing the famous Shetland ponies and sheep.

North Orkney Exploration 

The highlight of this tour in Scotland was visiting the Standing Stones of Stenness, located in Stromness, the Heart of Neolithic Orkney, which is a UNESCO-listed region.

Only four of the original twelve are still standing.

These massive stones are a sight to see, and you have to wonder about the skill that got them upright in this field. 

You'll also see Boreray sheep at the Standing Stones site.

They take care of the grass with no worries about the possibility of damage to the stones.

They don't seem to mind their jobs and were happily playing while we were there.

There was a stop into the small town of Stromness included after the tour, and you must take time to try the homemade Orkney Ice Cream.

They have Highland Park Whiskey and Marmalade flavor. Just sayin'. It's important to support the locals, right?

Note: Another bonus to this day was that we were able to go into Kirkwall and explore before our excursion.

Definitely do this if you are on this cruise! There's a lot of history to see.

Dunrobin Castle 

Dunrobin Castle is stunning from the outside and equally as impressive on the inside with 189 rooms.

It has been continuously inhabited since the 1300s, and at times was a naval hospital and boarding school.

Dunrobin is the most northern of Scotland’s great houses and is also the largest of the great houses in the Northern Highlands.

One of the most popular things to do at Dunrobin is the falconry show. It is definitely worth seeing!

Note: The timing is a bit difficult as you won't be able to see the end of the show (unless it's changed) and will really have to hustle to get back to the bus.

Be at the show on time so you can at least see a good portion of it. And get ready to get your steps in because it is a long walk back!

Royal Mile  

The Royal Mile Walking Tour in Edinburgh gave us plenty of time to see how the historic sights of Scotland are melded in with everyday life.

The Royal Mile is a thoroughfare that connects Holyroodhouse with Edinburgh Castle and is home to historic buildings and plenty of shopping.

Newcastle On Your Own 

This tour provided transportation from the port, along the Tyne River, and over to the historic center of Newcastle.

We were able to explore the area on our own for about three hours and had so much fun.

I had read about The Old George, which is the oldest pub in Newcastle. That might not sound like a big deal until you realize we’re talking the year 1582! King Charles l was a frequent visitor! 

The staff was super friendly and welcoming, the food and beer were delicious, and the atmosphere was SO much fun.

We had a blast at the pub, but also enjoyed strolling the city and learning about the history of this beautiful area.

There were a lot of excursions at the Newcastle port on this Oceania Cruise, including  a Harry Potter tour, but we would choose this one all over again.

Best of Amsterdam 

There’s so much to see in Amsterdam that even a single-day best of tour can’t possibly cover it all.

Amsterdam is home to the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, the Anne Frank House, and so much more. 

We had been to the Van Gogh before, so we took a canal tour which we missed that last time we were there.

We had lunch in a cafe and explored for the rest of our time there.

Bruges Sights & Beer Tasting 

This was hands down our favorite excursion. The tour starts with a guided walk through the UNESCO-listed historic downtown city of Bruges.

The city is just stunning, with its medieval buildings and landmarks.

After all that walking, it was great to go for a beer tasting at the World of Beer Experience.

Belgium has a long history of beer brewing, and hearing the history and tasting the local beer was a wonderful way to spend the day.

Tips for Cruising with Oceania

Take Advantage of Laundry Services

My number one tip for sailing with Oceania is to take advantage of laundry services! Packing less is so much better!

This will help you to be able to carry on your luggage, which means your luggage won't get lost and you'll breeze through the airport. That's a win!

You can also do your own laundry at no cost, but I think it's worth every penny to send it out at least once, depending on the length of your trip.

If you upgrade to the Concierge level, you can send out laundry three times.

Use My Packing List

Use my cruise packing list to make sure you don't forget anything.

Bring a Backpack

Bring a backpack to carry with you on excursions. A small umbrella is a good idea, as well as tissues, hand sanitizer, and a couple of granola bars. 

Each guest is given a reusable Vero water bottle to use while on the ship which is great for taking with you on excursions. You can refill at the still and sparkling stations throughout the ship.

Bring along a carabiner clip (link) so you can attach your water bottle to your backpack.

If you’re planning to stay in London for a day or two after the cruise ends, it’s very easy to take a taxi to the train station and take the train into London.

We found London to be very walkable and saw quite a bit in our one day there.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re looking for a ship where you can run around in a bathing suit coverup all day and night, Oceania is not for you.

While the dress code on Oceania isn’t stuffy, the recommended attire is resort or country club casual. This means no jeans and t-shirts at dinner.

Although children are permitted on cruises if they are at least 6 months of age on the day of boarding (or 12 months if the cruise has three consecutive sea days), Oceania may not be the best bet for a cruise with kids.

Unlike some other cruise lines, there’s no dedicated kids’ club or child-focused entertainment area, and no onboard childcare is available.

On the other hand, if you have an older child who would be interested in the dining opportunities, cultural experiences, and ports of call, Oceania can be a good option. And if you’re specifically looking for a cruise without kids running around, Oceania is a great option.

Automatic gratuities are added to your stateroom folio at a current rate of $18 per guest per day for most staterooms. Gratuities for suites and above are $23 per guest per day.

Other automatic gratuities include things like beverage purchases, spa treatments, and specialty dining that has additional cost. You can always tip more, and many times you may want to given the high quality of service.

Overall, we thought the Oceania Cruises Northern Islands & Gems itinerary was a fantastic cruise, and one you can't go wrong booking.

With Oceania's fleet of ships, you can go just about anywhere in the world and unpack once.

Oceanias 6th ship, Insignia , was charted to Hapag-Lloyd of Germany for two years but rejoined the fleet in 2016.
