Taiwan island tour

We like the round the island tour in Taiwan. However, we suggest to evenly spread the daily activities and local visits. Because there were days we had 4-5 local visits but only 2 local visits in a particular day making such day with too much leisure time. In addition, I would also suggest more coverage on the second day (only half day tour) please add 陽明山,士林官邸, 貓空和淡水。 Add additional day to cover 野柳,九份 或阿里山

Wonderful Greece & Aegean Sea Cruise…

Our tour to Greece & Aegean Sea Cruise exceeded the expectation! The tour guide Ann Tsao was very thoughtful & organized to manage the large group well. She was energetic and shared her rich Greek myth knowledge throughout the entire trip. Ann also worked well with those enthusiastic professional local guides to make the whole local visits so wonderful. The hotels all have excellent facilities with tasty local cuisines for dining enjoyments! Wish we could have one or two more days in Kalambaka Meteora or Delphi for more local exposure!

Amazing Trip to Japan

The eight days Japan Discovery tour package offered by Peony Tours exceeded our expectations! We had such a wonderful time in various Japan cities and is looking forward to joining the Peony Japan tour again next year. The tour cost was very reasonable, and the tour program was also well-organized. The whole journey was full of joys from seeing cherry blossoms to tasting delicious soba and udon noodles in Kyoto. The tour guide (Ms. Wong) was excellent and attentive. We also appreciated the excellent customer service provided by Bobo Fung.

Peony Provided the Best Services .…

The Peony company picked the best places to visit for our tight tour. It strives to provide the best services to its customers. One example, we didn’t get the tickets to the Palace Alhambra before the beginning of the tour, but Peony tried hard to get the tickets for us and we made it. Tour guide, Mr. Ocean Hu, is excellent. He is knowledgeable, responsible and considerable. He is an excellent guide I have for the many tours I attended with Peony and others. Overall, I give the highest mark to the Peony Tours.

Thank you for your glowing review, Ni! We are ecstatic to hear you had a perfect trip. We cannot wait to see you again soon!

Loved our tour guide!

I have participated in several tours organized by other travel agencies, and I deeply feel that the tour guide plays a very important role in the success of a tour group. This time I participated in the Peony Tours Eastern Europe tour, and I was lucky enough to have Nathan as my tour guide. During the 10-day tour, Nathan explained with clear articulation and knowledge of every site we visited. It made us feel like we were listening to stories every day. After listening to the stories, people inevitably asked questions, and Nathan also answered the questions one by one. When traveling, it was inevitable that unexpected situations would arise. Nathan solved the problems one by one with a calm and rational attitude which made me want to say: "I have never encountered such an amazing tour guide before." I will definitely consider Peony Tours first for my future tours.

A great tour company

This was our very first tour with Peony Tours also our first trip to Europe. The overall experience was wonderful. We really enjoyed the food, accommodation and itinerary. We learned a lot from our tour guide Juliette. She is super experienced and knowledgeable. Even though our group has 8 people with ages from 9 yrs to 83 yrs, she made this 12-day trip a memorable event for everybody. We would definitely love to go on another trip with Peony Tours in the near future.

Good value trip - Spain/Portugal

The tour guide (Caro Hsu) was energetic and experienced, she guided well and took good care of the group. This tour itinerary covers a lot of places, and food & restaurant selections are mostly nice. Few areas can be improved: 1) Pretty busy and tight schedule with long road trip time which made a bit rush and tired...maybe can cut out some small scenery spots and give a bit more free time for us to enjoy the local experiences. 2) a few hotels seem not like a 4 star hotel quality, maybe can change to other better ones. Ex: Granada Palace - food, service, room amenities Hotel Silken Puerta Madrid - service, room amenities

Date of experience : October 16, 2023

Dear Bear, We appreciate your detailed feedback on your recent tour experience, and we're pleased to hear your positive comments about our tour guide, Caro Hsu. Her energetic and experienced guidance, along with her care for the group, is invaluable in creating memorable journeys for our customers. We understand your feedback on the itinerary and the areas where improvements can be made. Your input is highly valuable to us, and we always aim to enhance our travel experiences: We understand that the tight schedule and long road trip times can be tiring. We appreciate your suggestion to potentially cut out some smaller scenery spots and provide more free time for a more leisurely local experience. We'll certainly consider this for future itineraries to strike a better balance between sightseeing and relaxation. Your feedback regarding a few hotels not meeting the expected 4-star quality is duly noted. We aim to provide comfortable and high-quality accommodations, and we'll review the hotels mentioned to ensure they meet our standards or consider better alternatives. Your comments inspire us to continuously improve our tours, and we thank you for bringing these areas to our attention. If you have any additional suggestions or would like to discuss your experiences further, please feel free to reach out. We look forward to serving you on your future adventures and providing you with even better travel experiences. Thank you for choosing us as your travel partner, and we're committed to making each trip more enjoyable and comfortable.

3 Days Luoyang Tour with Peony Festival

Encounter with Beautiful Peonies

Luoyang Peony Culture Festival Tour

In China, peony has long been highly appreciated since Tang Dynasty (618 ~ 907 AD), when the flowers were cultivated in the imperial gardens and gradually spread across the whole country. Luoyang, once served as the capital city in Tang Dynasty, becomes the city of peonies and also the best place to see peony flowers.

This tour is specially made for peony enthusiasts. You will visit Luoyang in its most beautiful time - Peony Culture Festival which usually starts from early April to early May . You are able to be immersed in the beauty of various kinds of Peony flowers as well as visit historical and cultural sites of Luoyang in one go.

Highlights of this tour

  • Take part in the annual Peony Culture Festival to appreciate the beauty of thousands of peony flowers in the city of peonies;
  • Witness splendid Buddha statues and inscriptions in Longmen Grottoes, the man-made wonder of ancient Chinese people;
  • Visit two of China's most important Buddhist temples - Shaolin Temple and White Horse Temple to explore Shaolin Kung Fu and the origin of Chinese Buddhism.

Basic Trip Information

Full Itinerary Day by day

Welcome to Luoyang , one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China! Your local guide and driver will meet you at the train station or the airport and take you to visit Longmen Grottoes , a UNESCO World Heritage site boasting the largest and most impressive collection of Chinese art from the late Northern Wei and Tang Dynasties (316-907). Take an electric car to the West Tourist Center to begin your exploration from there. You'll marvel at the remarkable Buddhist caves scattered across the West Hill from north to south. The Bingyang Middle Cave, the first royal cave, was excavated to immortalize Emperor Xiaowen's historical achievements in moving the capital to Luoyang and initiating Chineseization reforms. In the Wanfo Cave, adorned with 15,000 small seated Buddhas, you'll witness a harmonious depiction of the Western Pure Land. Undoubtedly, the highlight of the Longmen Grottoes awaits you at the Fengxian Temple , where the majestic Vairocana Buddha stands 17.14-meter tall, showcasing unparalleled carving skills through its diverse statues. After immersing yourself in the beauty of the grottoes, take a leisurely stroll to the opposite side of the river for a panoramic view, particularly of the magnificent Vairocana Buddha. Conclude your visit by exiting the scenic area aboard an electric car.

Lastly, go to take a stroll through the ancient streets of Luoyang Old City (Lijing Gate & Shizi Street). Teeming with old residential buildings, food streets, and quaint shops, it offers a vibrant glimpse into the splendor of old Luoyang. Indulge in local snacks or shop for unique souvenirs at your leisure. After the trip, drive back to your hotel.

After sightseeing, transfer to check in your hotel in Luoyang.

Tips for Today: Comfortable footwear is essential for your visit to the Longmen Grottoes, as exploring the scattered grottoes across the hill involves walking several steps up and down.

How to Get to Luoyang? It is available to take a flight to Luoyang from Beijing (2 hrs), Shanghai (2 hrs), Chengdu (2 hrs), Chongqing (2 hrs), Guangzhou (2.5 hrs), etc., or take a high speed train to Luoyang from Xian (1.5 hrs), Zhengzhou (40 mins), Beijing (3.5 hrs), Shanghai (5.5 hrs), Nanjing (3.5 ~ 4 hrs), Hangzhou (about 5.5 hrs), Chengdu (5.5 ~ 6.5 hrs)

Longmen Grottoes - Art of Chinese Buddhism

You will start today's trip with a visit to Luoyang Museum , which offers a comprehensive insight into ancient Luoyang from various perspectives. With over 1,000 exhibits spanning different dynasties that once established their capitals in Luoyang, a stroll through the exhibition halls on the first floor will transport you through 13 dynasties of history. The Ancient Treasures of Luoyang exhibition on the second floor features prized artifacts, including the Black Glazed Pottery Horse (AD 618-907), Facial Part of the Clay Buddha Figurine (AD 386-557), White Jade Cup (AD 220-225), Gilt Bronze Figurine of A Winged Man (AD 25-220), Bronze Ding Intertwined with Gold and Silver Patterns (BC 475-221), and more. For enthusiasts of peony flowers, the Wangxiu Peony Art Hall houses exquisite paintings and embroideries depicting these beautiful blooms.

Then, pay a visit to Luoyang National Peony Garden , which is grown with more than 600 varieties of domestic peony and 100 varieties of foreign varieties. Strolling in the garden provides you with a visual feast of a sea of flowers. You must be surprised to witness so many stunning peonies in so many colors. Apart from red and pink peonies, you are also able to see some rare colors, like white, yellow, orange, lilac and purple.

Please Note: There are various peony gardens in Luoyang. Every peony garden has different peony flowers with different flowering phase. Usually, the full-blossom period of peony flowers in Luoyang National Peony Garden is April 10th ~ 25th and in Luoyang International Peony Garden is April 20th ~ May 5th. In order to offer you the best sightseeing of peony flowers, the itinerary may be changed according to your travel time.

Exquisite tri-colored glazed potteries in Luoyang Museum

After breakfast, start today's trip with a visit to White Horse Temple , located approximately 50 minutes' drive from downtown. Established in AD 68 during the Eastern Han dynasty, White Horse Temple holds the distinction of being China's first Buddhist temple, boasting a history spanning over 1900 years. Since its establishment, it has played a pivotal role in spreading Buddhism throughout China and is revered as the cradle of Chinese Buddhism. A visit to White Horse Temple offers the opportunity to admire the ancient architecture of the main temple and explore other temples in the International Zone, each featuring distinct exotic styles such as the Indian Temple, Burmese Temple, and Thai Temple.

After sightseeing in White Horse Temple, drive about 1.5 hrs to Shaolin Temple , renowned as the birthplace of Zen Buddhism and the birthplace of Kung Fu. Here, you'll have the chance to tour grand temples and halls, marvel at stone carving art, immerse yourself in Buddhist culture, and perhaps witness the daily lives and meditation practices of the temple's monks. Be sure not to overlook the famous Pagoda Forest, the largest of its kind in China. When a revered monk passes away, their remains or skeleton are interred in an underground palace, and a pagoda is erected atop it. The pagoda's height, size, and number of layers are determined by the monk's knowledge of Buddhism, reputation, and merits and virtues accumulated during their lifetime.

Later, you'll be treated to a spectacular Kung Fu Show at the Shaolin Wushu Hall, typically lasting around half an hour. On occasion, several audience members may even be invited to learn a few Shaolin Kungfu techniques.

Optional Activities: For an additional fee of CNY 30, you can also opt to witness a Kung Fu Show performed by martial monks of the Shaolin Temple within the temple grounds. This performance showcases some of the "72 Arts of Shaolin," including Diamond Finger, Iron Head, and Golden Bell techniques. Let your tour guide know in advance if you are interested in it.

After the Kung Fu show, drive back to Luoyang or Zhengzhou to catch your train or flight to your next destination.

  • Frost Damaged Peonies 2020, May 4th Spring in the north almost always brings the challenges of frost damaged peonies.  Often damage by light freezes is visible through wilting stems in the morning and plants bounce back later in the day.  Occasionally colder nights produce lasting damage exemplified by dead shoots, which do not recover.  Generally temperatures which fall below 25 F […]

  • Squirrels and Roses, Blue Jays and beeches 2012, August 27th It seems the squirrels were reading this blog; a day after I wrote the previous entry they were hard at work eating the rose hips off the other clumps of R rugosa, and not wasting any time about it either! Within 3 days there wasn't a rose hip to be seen anywhere on the property. […]
  • When Rose Hips Go All Squirrelly 2012, August 16th A few days ago I was surprised to see some nicely emptied-out hips from Rosa rugosa, a species having large fleshy hips and originally from Japan but very adaptable and salt-tolerant and so now widely naturalized along many sea coasts. Lots of it in Nova Scotia too (but mine were deliberately planted). I had never seen […]
  • Curious Seeds 2012, August 13th I haven't had much to post about this season, or maybe just lacked the motivation. Today's break from habit is due to a mystery or curiosity of sorts. A bit of background: over the past couple of years I have finally had two plants of Paeonia anomala f. alba flower (mind you, not from seed […]
  • Variants, and something cute 2011, June 10th Paeonia peregrina, usually deep red but varying towards salmon/coral in some populations in the wild. Its foliage is the arrowhead shaped stuff in the next photo down. The genus name […]
  • More of White Anomala 2011, June 6th As hoped, a better photo of the flower. And a close-up of the reproductive parts. The stigmas seem very small. My report of the possibility of a few more coming into bloom shortly was premature. Along the lines of "don't count your peonies until they flower"; all the others were the normal pink/rose. The relative paleness of […]
  • An Anomaly of the Anomaous Peony 2011, June 1st After years of waiting, and from the wrong seed batch!, blooms of a Paeonia anomala forma alba: the white-flowered form of Paeonia anomala. One bloomed after a fashion last year, but the flower was stunted and damaged by weather and insects, so this year's is really my first. There is again some insect damage to […]
  • A Sudden Outburst of Sun-- and Peonies 2011, May 31st The cold and grey of most of May was good for one thing: watching the Giro d'Italia (Tour of Italy) bike race on tv. • The 2011 Peony Season Commmences 2011, May 21st Shockingly, an update to this blog. Spring has been wet, and cold until just recently, but plants are either ahead of normal or somewhat behind: no consistent trend that I can figure out.Last year I finally planted a Paeonia mairei in a bed, so I now know that it blooms about at the same time […]
  • Not about Plants this time-- Jan Lisiecki Recital 2010, September 22nd This is worth writing about (and it fits into here better than any of the other blogs I do.)Last Friday night after a recital (good but not outstanding) in Wolfville by soprano Wendy Nielson I found out by accident that the young (15 now) Calgary pianist Jan Lisiecki was performing there the next night. • Ep. 470 - Rethinking Water Lettuce 2024, April 21st Water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) has long been maligned for its invasive tendencies. This floating aquatic aroid grows fast and responds well to poor water quality, and because of this, states like Florida spend lots of time and money on trying to eradicate it. However, a combination of fossil end recent genetic evidence suggests that we […]

  • Ep. 468 - Plants, Structure, and Habitat 2024, April 7th I have said it before, and I will say it again: plants ARE habitat. Join me and Wildlife Ecologist Dr. Chris Moorman as we look at why […]
  • Ep. 467 - Roots & the Struggle for Nutrients 2024, March 31st Competition for nutrients is a major driver of plant evolution, especially in nutrient-poor soils. As such, plants have evolved myriad ways of getting a "root up" on the competition. Dr. Jim Dalling joins us to discuss two recent discoveries related to two species with distinct and incredible root adaptations aimed at maximizing nutrient capture in […]

  • Ep. 464 - Back from the Brink 2024, March 10th Good news is hard to come by in the world of plant conservation, but it is out there! • Ep. 463 - Digitizing an Extinct Tree 2024, March 3rd How does one breath life into an extinct tree only known from fossils? Their anatomy is such that they collect everything from dead leaves to bird droppings. A diverse community of soil microbes and […]

The meal was not delicious.

The meal was not delicious. Especially the French dinner was bad test and too salty. We paid $200 for two people, it was not worth. We were walking almost 20000 steps every day, all hotels we stayed located in the suburban. For senior travelers, we are looking for a pleasant and good quality trip. We are really disappointed. Sorry about !

My first trip with Peony and the entire…

My first trip with Peony and the entire experience was very hassle-free and clear. There were some unexpected things happened like having an extra day not planned in the itinerary due to the available flight was in the early morning the next day. The tour guide arranged additional activities (without additional cost) which were really amazing. Really appreciate the efforts and professionalism of the the team. I definitely will book another trip with Peony next year.

It was a wonderful trip

It was a wonderful trip. The tour guide is very attentive and thoughtful. I love all the services were provided before our trip. We have so many questions and Angel from Los Angeles office answered every little question we had. Thank you very much for all you do. We will book future trip with Peony again. BTW, we also book the flight through Peony. It looks like more expensive then self book, but with local taxi, transport luggage, may even extra day of hotel and airport pick up, it is less cost and less stress in a foreign country.

Date of experience : September 19, 2023

We're thrilled to hear that you had an excellent trip and that your tour guide was attentive and thoughtful, making your journey even more enjoyable. More English

Good excursions and places to visit. One hotel room was questionable in that it had an interior stairway to an upper loft making it difficult to maneuver. The Barcelona hotel was too far from the City center, although on the way to the airport. Not enough English was spoken on the tour bus. I understand this was a Mandarin language tour, but even some Cantonese travelers didn't always get the Mandarin.

Date of experience : June 12, 2023

Dear Buddy, Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that hotels didn't live up to your expectations. We have shared your feedback with our local partners. We notify that our tour programs are conducted primarily in Mandarin Chinese with some English translations however, we will use your feedback to better convey this message. We are happy that you enjoyed the trip overall.

Tour of Italy

My husband and I had an awesome vacation with Peony Tour to Tour of Italy. Mr. Jame Wang was our tour leader. He is an excellent tour leader, he made everything smooth and perfect even during some rough weather days. He is well organized and very knowledgeable. I don’t think we can ask for more. We went with Peony Tour company to China, Portugal and Spain and this time Italy. Each trip is better than the one before. We are looking forward to be in their Greece Tour in 2024.

Date of experience : November 06, 2023

Thank you for your glowing review, Tina! We are thrilled to hear that you had an awesome experience during each of your vacations with us! We're delighted that Jame provided you with such excellent service. We cannot wait to welcome you to Greece soon and other parts of the world!

Eastern European Tour

We went on the Eastern European Tour and had a great tour guide (Ann) who was very knowledgeable about the different city histories! She was also helpful and considerate. The only downside to the trip was that we had to walk without stopping for long periods of time, so it was very tiring, especially for older members of the group.

We are delighted to hear that you had a great experience and that our tour guide, Ann, impressed you with her knowledge and helpfulness. Once again, we sincerely appreciate your feedback and thank you for choosing our tour. We hope to have the opportunity to serve you again on another exciting journey.

Happy trip and good services

Our tourguide Jeffrey Liu is very responsible and considerate.I’m in bus C.There is an American in our bus who doesn’t know Manderin well and a guy who is disabled, so he had to give up some parts of the whole trip. Mr.Liu had to explain in both English and Manderin. He also had to consider what and how to do is the best way for the disabled person. Besides the tour guide, the driver, the bus you provide or the hotel we stayed are all good in general speaking.I’m satisfied with the travel we joined.Thank you for your good services.

Date of experience : October 02, 2023

Dear Mei, Thank you for your thoughtful feedback regarding your recent travel experience with us. We're delighted to hear that you had a satisfying journey and that our tour guide, Jeffrey Liu, played a crucial role in ensuring that everyone in the group had a great experience. Jeffrey's ability to accommodate travelers with varying language abilities and specific needs is truly commendable. Your satisfaction is our ultimate goal, and we're grateful for your kind words about our services. We look forward to the possibility of serving you again on future travels and continuing to provide exceptional experiences.

Hello Spain and Portugal

It was a very enjoyable tour! The itinerary was planned out well, fitting in many wonderful places/sites (cathedrals, museums, palaces and coastal areas) for sightseeing and many locations to tour. I got to visit and see a lot of Spain and Portugal. One of my favorite parts was to learn about their history or fun facts. Our tour guide Nathan Xue was truly excellent - he was professional, knowledgeable, organized, nice and understanding. Most of the hotels were good and all had continental breakfast. I also appreciate the pre-travel information packet that Peony provided us to help us prepare for the trip. I look forward to joining another Peony tour in the future :)

Renee! Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us this amazing review. We are so grateful for your kind words. We look forward to having you on another one of our tours!

A great trip. Everyone has to go. Brazil & Peru

First, I would like say thanks to our talented, helpful, friendly tour guide Juliette, Thank you Juliette, Hope we will meet again in the future tours. Second, This trip was my 4th time with Peony tours. I love everything thing I saw, every place I visited while on this trip. The hotels beautifully wonderful. the food amazingly tasty. It's been a great experience. Thank you Peony tours. However there is one thing I have to complain about it's the "audio device" personally, I don't like it at all. It's too noisy when we were in clouded places. Perhaps could use Bluetooth synchronize to one master audio device, instead of everyone has to carry one device. Finally, it's a great trip, wonderful vacation. love it, everyone has to go.

My wife and I just came back from the Spain and Portugal tour with Peony Tours. It was a great tour, and all the places we visited are great. The tour guide Wei Chen is very knowledgeable, nice and funny. He told us many vivid and interesting Europe historical stories throughout the trip. Customer service representative

1. PSP0816, Customer service representatives was not good. I did not receive the packages prior to my trip. I end up went to Alhambra office to pick it up. It made me think, because of I did not book the airline ticket through your company so the service representative did not bother to mail me the package. I checked all other guests in this trip, they all booked the airline tickets through your company, and they all received the preparation package in the mail prior to the trip.

Date of experience : August 17, 2023

Dear Ning, Thank you for your review. We are sorry for any dissatisfaction you experienced with our customer service team. Please be assured that we take your feedback seriously and have shared it with our management team. Regarding the package, we mail packages to all Land + Air and Land Only travelers. Our records indicate that the package was mailed to you on July 24, 2023. We are happy that you were able to visit our office and collect it in person as well. We hope you had a wonderful trip and look forward to seeing you again soon!

Gem of Europe tour

Overall it was a great tour. We love it, even though it was physically demanding. Our tour guide Caro did her best to make the trip enjoyable. The Moulin Rouge show was truly the highlight, which we would have missed without her special arrangement. Many thanks to her. On the other hand, the meals could be better. The days could be a bit shorter, making it easier for the elderly.

We hope to have the opportunity to serve you on future journeys and provide even more enjoyable experiences.

We joined the 8 days tour to Taiwan

We joined the 8 days tour to Taiwan, but there was only 5 days with itinerary. The first 2 days and the last day just were flying from our hometown to Taiwan and the last day flying from Taiwan to our home. I did not get a chance to see our tour guide until the third day and we were NOT provided any information about the guide. We felt so lost!!! This is the worse arrangement I have never had since joining tours for many many times. Plus the cost of this tour is several hundred more than other tour mates paid. Very disappointed. This MUST be changed.

We regret that you had an unpleasant travel experience, and we have conducted an investigation into the issues you mentioned: Regarding itinerary arrangements: After contacting you, you mentioned that you were already aware of our itinerary, including free time on the first and last days in Taipei with only airport transfers, before making the reservation. Regarding pricing: We contacted local in Taiwan to confirm, and it appears you may have compared the price of our 8-day itinerary with a local 5-day itinerary, overlooking the additional 3 nights of hotel accommodation in Taipei. After completing our investigation, we made multiple attempts to reach out to you, but unfortunately, we have been unable to connect over the phone. We hope you can get in touch with us to provide an opportunity for us to explain and address any misunderstandings. Peony Tours has been dedicated to providing high-quality travel products for customers for over 40 years. Our itinerary arrangements and prices are transparently disclosed on our website, and we do not intentionally mislead or hide any costs. We welcome your valuable feedback at any time, and we will promptly investigate and make improvements.
