Which PGA Tour events give jackets or blazers to their winners?

pga tour golf jacket

Winning on the PGA Tour comes with plenty of rewards. Of course, there's the huge first-place payouts on the PGA Tour, going as high as $4.5 million.

Winners get a two-season exemption for taking a normal event, but that exemption can just to three seasons for certain invitationals, while winning a major or The Players earns a five-season exemption.

At some PGA Tour events, though, there's a sartorial prize for the champion. Some PGA Tour events give out a jacket to their winner.

PGA Tour events that award a jacket to winners

The masters.

The most recognizable jacket in golf is, of course, the green jacket the Masters champion gets. Dating back to the first green jacket awarded in 1949, Augusta National Golf Club gives the jacket to the winner, and they get to take it home with them to wear in their capacity as Masters champion for a whole year until they return to defend their title. After that, the Masters green jacket stays on club property until a player wins the Masters again. Multiple-time Masters winners do not get additional jackets for each Masters win. Instead, the multi-time Masters champion just has their original jacket put on them in the green jacket ceremonies in Butler Cabin and outside at the practice green.

RBC Heritage

The week after the Masters, another jacket is on the line. At Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina, the winner of the RBC Heritage receives a plaid jacket. In the first years of the event, those associated with the tournament wore canary yellow jackets. In the 1970s, though, organizers were inspired by the famous 1790 golf print of Sir William Innes, who was captain of the Society of Golfers at Blackheath in Scotland, playing in a Royal Stewart tartan jacket. The tournament removed a yellow strip from the print to make it their own, calling it Heritage Plaid. In the initial years, the winner received a red jacket at the trophy ceremony and was given their RBC Heritage plaid jacket the next year in a pre-tournament ceremony, but that's no longer the case.

Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial

There are two plaid jackets on the line on the PGA Tour, and the second in calendar order is in the PGA Tour's invitational event at Colonial Country Club. The Colonial plaid jacket has been worn by club members since 1952, after the first six years saw the club members wearing navy jackets. The idea was to pay tribute to the game's heritage, making the jackets available only to Colonial members and tournament winners. The club can award a jacket to volunteers, tournament committee members and others involved with the event, at their discretion. The plaid is unique to the tournament, featuring 10 colors.

the Memorial Tournament

While Jack Nicklaus and the membership of host club Muirfield Village Golf Club wear grey jackets all during the Memorial Tournament, the champion himself doesn't get to take a jacket home. The same emphasis isn't placed on giving the champion a jacket to remember their victory, but it's rather used to identify people involved with the tournament.

Arnold Palmer Invitational

For many years, the winner of Arnold Palmer's tournament at Bay Hill won a jacket and a trophy that was a sword. However, since Palmer's passing in 2016, the winners in 2017 and beyond have received a red cardigan similar to one Palmer himself wore in the 1960s. It's not a jacket or a blazer, but it's still a coveted piece of clothing.

Scottie Scheffler keeps “blinders on;” wins rain-delayed RBC Heritage with ease

Scottie Scheffler won on the PGA Tour for the fourth time in five tries, with his latest victory coming at the RBC Heritage.

Scottie Scheffler, RBC Heritage

Remember when people said Scottie Scheffler could not putt?

Since changing from a blade putter to a mallet putter ahead of the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March, Scheffler has gone on to win at Bay Hill, TPC Sawgrass, Augusta National , and most recently, the rain-delayed RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links.

Scheffler’s latest win marks his 10th victory in 51 career starts—a rate even better than Tiger Woods , who needed 59 starts to notch his 10th win.

His outlandish success has come about thanks to his otherworldly play from tee to green. Once again, Scheffler led the field at Harbour Town in strokes gained off the tee, strokes gained approaching the green, and strokes gained overall. However, he ranked 36th in strokes gained putting, yet he won by three shots with ease on Monday morning.

“It’s funny how quickly the narrative can change around here. I think a lot of people are just prisoners of the moment,” Scheffler said after his latest win.

Scottie Scheffler, RBC Heritage

“If I didn’t win this week, I’m sure it would be a lot different, but I’m the same guy I was two months ago, and I’ll be the same person two months from now no matter what happens. I’m not going to sit here and say I told you so or anything like that because I’ve just been keeping my head down and trying to do the best I can. Outside of that, I’ve got the blinders on for the most part.”

Scheffler has blocked out the outside noise like very few others in this game have been able to do. He has won four of the biggest events in the world in a 44-day span, a remarkable feat.

He came close to winning at the Texas Children’s Houston Open , too, but he misread a 6-footer for birdie on the 72nd hole. That resulted in Stephan Jaeger triumphing that week, leaving Scheffler in a tie for second—his only non-victory since Mar. 1.

Regardless, Scheffler’s current run has entered rare territory. The last player to win four times within five starts was Woods, who did so in 2007. Like Scheffler this year, that run in 2007 included a major championship—Woods won the PGA Championship at Southern Hills.

Tiger Woods, PGA Championship

Scheffler, of course, won The Masters in historic fashion and then trekked down to Hilton Head to win the RBC Heritage this past week. In doing so, he became the first player since Bernhard Langer in 1985 to win these tournaments in back-to-back weeks.

“I do have fairly high expectations for myself, and when I show up at tournaments, I try to do my best,” Scheffler said.

“I’ve talked a lot about preparation and what it takes for me to show up on the first tee ready to go. I feel like I’ve been putting in the work and playing some good golf, and it’s nice to be seeing some results with wins. At times last year, I felt like I was playing some good golf and wasn’t winning, so now it’s nice to be sitting here winning some tournaments.”

Some figured that Scheffler would not have his best stuff in Hilton Head this week, considering his emotional victory at The Masters and the fact that he will be a new father any time now. Understandably, his mind could have been elsewhere, but Scheffler still persevered.

“It was part of our plan to come here and play this week. I was able to go home for a couple of days and celebrate. I didn’t really put much thought into it. I had committed to playing in the tournament. That’s really all it was. There really wasn’t too much thought on that,” Scheffler explained.

Scottie Scheffler, RBC Heritage

“I committed to playing here; it was part of the plan, so we stuck to the plan. I talked about it at the beginning of the week; I didn’t show up here to have some sort of ceremony and have people tell me congratulations. I came here with a purpose. I got off to a slow start, but after that, I played some really nice golf.”

Scheffler opened with a 2-under 69 and then carded rounds of 66 and 63 to take a one-shot lead going into Sunday’s final round.

A substantial rain delay late Sunday afternoon forced Scheffler and others to wrap up their rounds on Monday morning, but the result was all but decided by Sunday evening.

Scheffler held a five-shot lead with three holes to play. He was never going to relinquish that, especially with the way in which he keeps his blinders on.

Now the question becomes, can he maintain his focus at Valhalla next month and win the PGA Championship? It should surprise nobody if he does.

PGA Tour awards $930 million to players in equity grants

2148429862

Andrew Redington

The PGA Tour informed players Wednesday of their individual grants in the tour’s new equity program and some of the game's biggest stars reportedly will get hefty checks.

The tour does not plan on publicly releasing the amounts, but the Telegraph reported earlier on Wednesday that Tiger Woods was set to receive a $100 million grant, with Rory McIlroy getting $50 million, and Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth receiving $30 million each.

The first $930 million of grants were distributed Wednesday, with players getting a note from PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan (who also holds the CEO title of PGA Tour Enterprises) detailing their award. Tyler Dennis, the PGA Tour’s chief competitions officer, later went on Golf Channel’s “Golf Today” to explain the process.

RELATED: Questions and Answers on the tour's new equity program

“There’s no other sports league in the world that has this significant number of their athletes as owners of their own sports organization,” Dennis said. “And we’re really excited about it because, ultimately, we want to do what’s right."

At the end of January the tour came to an agreement with the Strategic Sports Group for private investment, which coincided with the launch of PGA Tour Enterprises. The Enterprises division will house the PGA Tour’s commercial businesses and rights, as well as those of the DP World Tour. This will allow the tour to maximize revenue for itself and players while keeping the tour’s non-profit 501(c)(6) classification that carries tax exemptions for “business leagues, chambers of commerce, real estate boards, boards of trade, and professional football leagues” intact. SSG has pledged up to $3 billion to PGA Tour Enterprises with an initial $1.5 billion investment. Players were told they would receive equity into PGA Tour Enterprises, which the tour says has a valuation of $12 billion. The grants are based on playing accomplishments, future participation and tour status.

The grants were divided into four categories:

‱ Group 1 consists of $750 million in aggregate equity based on career performance, last 5-year performance, and Player Impact Program results. A total of 36 players were in this group.

‱ Group 2 consists of $75 million in aggregate equity and was granted to 64 players based on last 3-year performance.

‱ Group 3 consists of $30 million in aggregate equity and was granted to 57 players that have earned certain fully-exempt PGA Tour status categories.

‱ Group 4 consists of $75 million in aggregate equity and was granted to 36 players who were instrumental to building the modern PGA Tour, based on career performance.

There is an eight-year vesting period, where the grants will be worth 50 percent of their value after four years, 75 percent after six and the full amount at the end of eight. Not all players necessarily received a grant, although all—including young and future tour players—have the chance to receive grants down the line. An additional $600 million is earmarked towards these stakes. The $600 million will be awarded in recurring player grants of $100 million each year, starting in 2025.

“We want the players to be fully aligned with their organization,” Dennis said. “It’s something no other sport has done before and we’re seeing an incredible amount of excitement about that.”

The equity is essentially the tour’s answers to the opulent guaranteed payouts distributed by LIV Golf. Dennis did not say if LIV Golf members would get the chance to be a part of the equity should unification in the professional game ultimately come to fruition. The tour announced in January that the deal with SSG will allow for co-investment from PIF in the future, but there are antitrust regulations that need to be hurdled, and Congress has announced that its investigation into PIF and its investments in American businesses will continue.

How much is PGA Tour loyalty actually worth? Pros find out this week

The official word arrived on the last day of January, but it was not exactly news. The PGA Tour had finalized a deal with the Strategic Sports Group for an immediate investment of $1.5 billion into a new, for-profit entity named PGA Tour Enterprises. The names involved were not new — the likes of Steve Cohen, John Henry, Fenway Sports Group, etc., had been reportedly interested for months — but one major addendum was: an equity program.

Now, about three months after the announcement, PGA Tour players are about to find out what their loyalty has been worth. On Wednesday, Tour members will receive an email notifying them of the current value of award grants this program has earmarked for them, be it tens of millions of dollars, or none at all. The 193 eligible recipients will receive a letter from Tour commissioner Jay Monahan, who is the CEO of PGA Tour Enterprises, explaining the number of equity units they receive and the fair market value of said equity. The Tour intends to keep the list of award recipients confidential.

“It’s really about making sure that our players know the PGA Tour is the best place to compete and showing them how much the Tour appreciates them being loyal,” Jason Gore, the Tour’s chief player officer, said in one of six informational videos the Tour produced for the membership. The videos, which were shared internally with Tour pros and their representatives, were accompanied by infographics, all of which were reviewed by GOLF.com.

In the age of LIV Golf offering mega-millions in contracts to elite golfers, these figures matter, particularly for PGA Tour loyalists who passed on lucrative guaranteed contracts that would be worth more than PGA Tour Enterprises equity could ever offer them.

How much players decide to talk about their individual equity will be up to them, but as you will read below, the total value of each grant differ by player. On the day that specific criteria was announced, it was a hot topic among players.

Which equity group am I in? Wait, which equity group is he in?

So, how does it work?

The Tour has announced these equity grants under one specific word: opportunity. Xander Schauffele will not receive a life-size, $50 million check. Players will not see their bank account immediately increase. (In fact, as we’ll explain below, it will take quite some time before that happens.) They will strictly receive a capital interest award for a specific piece of PGA Tour Enterprises. Based on a myriad of factors, players will be ranked via a specific number of “membership units,” akin to stake in a company, the value of which will vest over a specific amount of time. High-performing players will receive a greater stake in PGA Tour Enterprises, which will be home to the Tour’s commercial operations. That’s where SSG’s money is going, which they hope will increase in value of over time.

How much value are we talking?

Even if 193 players receive grants, they will not be shared equally. Nick Taylor and Tiger Woods are not going to receive the same cut. The recipients are sectioned into four groups, with Group 1 seeing $750 million in value doled out to 36 players. That’s a little more than 80% of the prize going to just a few dozen pros, which grabbed headlines when it was first reported . In this group will be the kind of players who have rated well in the Player Impact Program, won many tournaments, and won important tournaments — like Signature Events or player-hosted invitationals — with an emphasis on the last five years.

Lacrosse player Paul Rabil and pro golfers Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy

Why should players own the PGA Tour? This guy knows better than most

A major factor in determining who is in Group 1 and who isn’t was a metric called Career Points, which emphasizes consistency as a Tour member and success throughout a player’s career. Players receive points based on the amount of years they were a PGA Tour member (playing in 15+ events), the amount of times they reached the Tour Championship, their amount of official Tour victories and even extra points for prominent victories (majors, Players Championships, WGCs, FedEx Cup titles, etc.).

For example, some back-of-the-envelope math tallies up 528 Career Points for Woods, and just 199 for Rory McIlroy. Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas have both accrued a similar number just shy of 100. All four players are expected to be part of Group 1 and will all receive significant awards, but the difference in Career Points is expected to derive some difference in the value. Bottom line: Woods will receive the greatest grant valuation (potentially by a wide margin) and McIlroy’s will be second.

What if you’re not a premier player?

The PGA Tour is successful because of those top 36 players, but it is rooted in the existence of many other members who back-fill the fields of the biggest stages in golf, week-in and week-out. An extra $75 million of value will be issued to a total of 64 players considered “steady performers and up-and-comers.” The individual totals of those grants will pale in comparison to the Group 1 grants, and will be based on FedEx Cup points earned over the last three years. Finally, Group 3 members, a total of 57 players, will earn from a pile of $30 million based on tournaments won, career money and number of times finishing in the top 125 of the FedEx Cup. And Group 4 members, who are considered “past legends,” will see 36 players receive their share of $75 million in equity based, again, on Career Points.

Recipients must be ELIGIBLE

This rules out LIV golfers from earning any of the initial grants, despite some of them helping build the Tour into what it is today. In an alternate universe, Phil Mickelson would have earned the second-highest award grant (behind only Woods), but he will receive nothing because he is not eligible. He is a lifetime member of the PGA Tour but has incurred hefty suspensions from his involvement with LIV Golf. (It is worth wondering: Does this injection of investment and new, for-profit company exist without Mickelson’s help forming LIV Golf? Probably not.)

Even in a world where the PGA Tour comes to an agreement with the Saudi PIF on further investment, this chunk of value will be earmarked for the 193 players who built the popularity of the Tour and continue deriving future value for it, all while remaining loyal. Does it include space for a grant for players like Chesson Hadley, who last June stated he would like to be rewarded for his decision to stay loyal? Hadley has won zero times in the last decade, so he would be hoping for one of the 57 Group 3 grants, which isn’t necessarily likely.

Another important point of eligibility is that recipients must be living. Thirty-six players will receive “Past legends” grants, which cannot be awarded posthumously. Jack Nicklaus is bound to receive a grant. Arnold Palmer cannot.

Players must WORK to receive their grant value

It’s going to be a long time before any Tour players receive the monetary value from these equity grants. The initial grants will vest on an eight-year timeline with multiple checkpoints: 50% of the grant value will vest after four years, with an extra 25% vesting after six years and the final 25% vesting after eight years, but only if players follow the rules. In a world where the PGA Tour and the Saudi PIF do not come to an agreement, Tour players who would leave for LIV (or other unauthorized events) will forfeit any unvested equity.

For the equity to vest, players must “provide services” each year of the vesting schedule. For most, those services are simple: just play PGA Tour events. Fully-exempt players who play 15 or more Tour events annually will meet that year’s requirement. Competing on the Korn Ferry and Champions tours also suffices, with DP World Tour events being approved on a case-by-case basis. In other words, if a fully-healthy McIlroy plays 14 Tour events and the BMW PGA Championship (a marquee event on the DP World Tour), he would need an approval for that final event to count as one of his 15. (It probably would.)

But what if, say, McIlroy strains an oblique before reaching his 15-event threshold in 2027? He (and players in similar situations battling injuries or lacking Tour status or being over the age of 60) could make up for an under-15-event total by performing a Service Event. Things such as meeting with Tour sponsors or filming a documentary with the Tour, all of which are approved by the Tour. (There is some slight wiggle room in these requirements, where a player could make up for falling just short one year by doing more in the following year.) Even if the nuts and bolts of this program can be complex, the Tour has tried to make it simple: play your golf, and your equity will vest. If life changes and circumstances arise, there are other ways to meet requirements.

Players cannot cash out for years (and they will be taxed)

Players can sell their equity only when it is vested, but they will also be taxed on those vesting dates.

Lance Stover, senior vice president of New Ventures at the Tour, explained a bit of the dollars and cents on the final educational video: “As with all forms of compensation … at each vesting milestone [years 4, 6 and 8 after the initial grants], players will be responsible for paying federal and state income taxes at ordinary income tax rates on the fair market value of the vested awards at the time of vesting.” So players will begin to be taxed on the value of their equity four years from now.

Importantly, the implication — of both the investment from SSG and from equity dished to players — is that PGA Tour Enterprises will continue to increase in value as the Tour moves forward. Almost all major sports leagues and franchises have seen their valuations skyrocket in recent years, and there’s little reason to suggest the PGA Tour would experience anything different, even if TV ratings have dipped in the first part of 2024.

The initial SSG investment valued the PGA Tour at $12.3 billion, and there is clearly still room for future investment from the Saudi PIF . The Tour’s television rights deal runs through 2030, but negotiations for the next deal will begin in just a few years. All of these things can impact the valuation of PGA Tour Enterprises at the point at which player equity would vest.

But wait! There’s more equity

Keen observers will note that these initial grants are devoted only to those who have made the Tour the best place for pros to compete in the world. But what about those who will continue making it the best place for competitive golf? More grants are on the way.

Beginning in 2025, each PGA Tour season will see additional grants awarded to the top performers on Tour — $100 million in grant value will be issued to roughly 20 players each year, based on Career Points (explained above) and Player Impact Program results that year. So someone like, say, Ludvig Aberg , who didn’t play on the PGA Tour during many of the years that formed this initial grant offering, will likely fare well with good performances in the years to come.

The OTHER big idea here

The PGA Tour wants players to be rewarded for their loyalty, to maintain that loyalty, but also to begin thinking like an owner. Like player-owners, who are focused on the Tour with the actions they make and the words they say. The Tour wants all its constituents rowing in the same direction, and they figure this program should help inspire that shared mindset.

“Owners are motivated to think beyond their personal performance week-to-week and year-to-year,” Gore said in one of the videos. “They have a broader perspective of how their actions can impact the long term health and performance of the Tour in a positive way. One that meets the needs of our fans at every turn. It’s no longer a what’s in it for me as much as it should be what’s in it for the growth of the Tour, which of course could bring more equity value to the players in the long run. It’s a virtuous cycle if we can get it right.”

The world’s top-ranked golfer is dominating the PGA Tour. Scottie Scheffler won the RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Monday morning following a weather delay and restart late Sunday—his fourth win in his last five starts. He added a tartan plaid jacket to his second green jacket at The Masters , which followed wins at The Players Championship and Arnold Palmer Invitational .

Scheffler carded an 8 under par 63 on Saturday to take a 1-stroke lead over Sepp Straka and 2 strokes ahead of his final round playing partner at The Masters, Collin Morikwa. Both those players shot a 1 over par 72 in the final round to fall back.

Scheffler entered Sunday’s final round as the -165 favorite on FanDuel Sportsbook to win the tournament with Straka and Morikawa both +650 and Masters runner-up Ludvig Aberg +1100 sitting 3 shots behind. Scottie was +450 to win at the start of the RBC Heritage .

Golf’s 27-year-old superstar was 3 under par through 11 holes Sunday and 19 under par with a 4-shot lead over six players when play was suspended before resuming 2 1/2 hours later at 7 p.m. ET. Scheffler played three more holes and took a 5-stroke lead into Sunday evening as play was suspended for darkness.

Early Monday he finished off the $20 million signature event with a 3-shot victory at 19 under par to earn another $3.6 million and take his season total to over $18 million. His bogey on the 18th hole ended a streak of 68 consecutive holes at par or better. Sahith Theegala finished second while Patrick Cantlay and Wyndham Clark T3 and Justin Thomas part of a 4-way tie for fifth.

Justin Ray, golf Lead Data Analyst, added a number of posts on X to show Scheffler’s run of dominance. Beyond Scottie being the last player since Tiger Woods in 2008 to win four times in a five-start stretch on the PGA Tour, this post about Scheffler holding the lead following a round 31 times on Tour the past three seasons speaks to Scottie’s spectacular play and dominance. The next closest player to have led or co-led following a round is 16 times.

Scheffler ramains the No. 1 ranked player in the Official World Golf Rankings for the 49th consecutive week. His win at Harbour Town was also the 10th of his career on Tour. It took him 51 tournaments to win his 10th PGA Tour title following his first win. Tiger Woods did it in 59 events with David Duval the fastest from wins 1 to 10 at 33 starts.

Scheffler’s strokes gained stats are simply staggering. Scheffler ranks No. 1 in SG: Total, Tee to Green, Approach, No. 2 Off the Tee and top-10 Around the Green. He’s continued to win despite ranking outside the top 150 in SG: Putting. Scheffler gained more than a stroke both off the tee and on approach shots in his first three rounds at Harbour Town. He has done this in 27.2% of his rounds over the last three seasons. The rest of the PGA Tour has done it 4.7% of the time.

Scheffler then finished off another victory with a strong performance on Sunday at Harbour Town that included this chip-in for eagle from 53 feet off the front right short rough on the Par 5 at hole No. 2.

He’s now played 40 rounds in 2024 and has yet to shoot a round over par. It’s 44 in a row dating back to last year’s Tour Championship in August. Tiger Woods currently holds the Tour record at 52 rounds shooting par or better, which he set during the 2000-01 season.

Scheffler’s desire to win and determination to be the best is shining through despite any pressure that may mount. He’s nearly locked up 2024 PGA Tour Player of the Year honors before the end of April, and commented on his play and performances following rounds 3 and 4 while dealing with any added pressure.

Internally, do you feel less pressure compared to a few months ago when you're out there playing?

SCOTTIE SCHEFFLER: It's tough to answer. I mean, I talked about it a bit at the end of last week. I really love winning, and I don't really like losing at all. It's one of those things where I try to manage the expectations of myself, kind of get that stuff out of the way and then go out there and compete.

Scheffler also added 700 FedEx Cup Playoffs Points to his total by winning the Signature Event at the RBC Heritage. He tops the points list with 3,915 - more than double Wyndham Clark (1,892) with Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Aberg and Sahith Theegala next at more than 1,500 points.

Scheffler is scheduled to compete in the Wells Fargo Championship May 9-12 at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, NC - another $20 million Signature Event. He should be a first-time father by then with wife Meredith expecting their child very soon.

“I definitely will enjoy the birth of my first child, and my priorities will change very soon, so golf will be fourth in line, but I still love competing,” he said last Sunday in the Butler Cabin at The Masters .

He competed at the highest level again without a letdown to win the RBC Heritage. Scheffler will enter the next major as the +450 favorite at the PGA Championship May 16-19 at Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville, KY. FanDuel Sportsbook also has Scheffler at +6500 odds to win the Grand Slam and all four majors this year.

Scottie Scheffler is showing no signs of letdown and fans and bettors continue to support him despite ultra-low odds to win not seen since Tiger Wood’s dominance.

You can bet on it.

Golfbet Recap: Scottie Scheffler ‘dialed in like nobody’s business’ after cruising to RBC Heritage win

Golfbet News

Change Text Size

The golf world is witnessing something extremely special. It took until Monday morning but Scottie Scheffler put the finishing touches on a three-shot win at the RBC Heritage, giving him four tournament victories in his last five starts.

While all the records, milestones and rarities continue to build with seemingly every shot he hits, we are at the same time running out of superlatives to describe this truly magical run he is experiencing.

About the only thing that slowed Scheffler down on Sunday was a 2.5-hour rain delay that forced the Monday finish, where Scheffler returned to play his final three holes of the tournament along with a handful of players who didn’t complete play before sunset. The logjam race for second place was ultimately claimed by Sahith Theegala, whose 16-under total beat everyone not named Scheffler.

Not even a wife with their first child due to be born any day now and a major championship victory last week were enough to flap Mr. Unflappable, as Scheffler’s only bogey of the final round came on the 72 nd hole when the outcome was no longer in doubt. It was only bogey of the tournament, as his lone other blemish was a double bogey on No. 3 that briefly derailed his opening round.

  • Pre-tournament: +400
  • Entering Round 2 (trailed by 6): +850
  • Entering Round 3 (trailed by 4): +450
  • Entering Round 4 (led by 1): -150

Among those celebrating Scheffler’s recent run: Las Vegas oddsmakers, who continue to price Scheffler at shorter and shorter prices amid his torrid stretch.

"He's dialed in like nobody's business," said Hall of Fame bookmaker, Nick Bogdanovich, who said Scheffler winning this week was actually a good result for him.

Scottie Scheffler's interview after winning RBC Heritage

These sentiments were shared by another revered bookmaker in Las Vegas, Jeff Sherman. "Scheffler is a great result for us. We didn't get many takers this week at his short price." Sherman went on to note that he has already adjusted Scheffler's numbers down for the remaining three major championships as well as the prop bet on Scheffler completing the single-season Grand Slam.

At BetMGM, Scheffler is now down to +350 to win the PGA Championship next month at Valhalla and +5000 to sweep the four majors in 2024.

  • Ben Everill: Xander Schauffele (+1400) T18
  • Will Gray: Collin Morikawa (+2000) T5
  • Chris Breece: Patrick Cantlay (+1600) T3
  • Matt DelVecchio: Will Zalatoris (+2500) T44
  • Rob Bolton: Matt Fitzpatrick (+2000) T28
  • Mike Glasscott: Scottie Scheffler (+400) WIN

If you remember our Prop Farm column from earlier this week, the Scheffler picture was not as rosy for Tristan Davis, senior manager at Mandalay Bay in Last Vegas, who let us know that, "Scottie is the best-backed player this week. He has over 20 percent of the handle at +400."

Director of Race and Sports at The Borgata in New Jersey, Thomas Gable, was not necessarily rooting for Scheffler on Sunday, either. "Sepp Straka winning would be a good result for us," said Gable, but he also lent this interesting perspective. "But when someone is playing as well as Scheffler is, I'm always curious to see just how dominant of a run he can have."

Before Sunday's round, Scheffler had a one-shot lead over Straka and was listed at -150 at BetMGM. With an eagle on the par-5 second, he suddenly had a three-shot lead and was now -350 to win. By the time Scheffler successfully reached the green in regulation on the sixth hole, he was -1000 to win the golf tournament and once again, this had quickly become a contest for second place.

Clark, who seems to be making a frustrating habit of finishing second to Scheffler, was seven shots off the lead and was listed at +50000 before teeing off on Sunday. At 4-under through four holes, Clark was down to +3300. He ended up shooting a 29 on the outward nine and his odds got to as low as +1200. The incredible run ended for Clark at No. 12, the third hardest hole on the course on Sunday, when he made double bogey and ballooned to +8000 to win the tournament. By the time Clark teed off on No. 15, he was four shots off the lead and +75000 to win.

Scheffler returned to the course Monday with a five-shot lead, and his combination of two pars and a bogey were more than enough to slip into the plaid jacket to go along with the green jacket he won last week at Augusta National. It’s his 10 th PGA TOUR win in 121 career starts, and he becomes the first player since Bernhard Langer in 1985 to win the very week after winning the Masters.

A wonderful phenomenon that existed for many years for sports bettors, was being able to bet on boxer Floyd Mayweather - who never lost as a pro. I asked professional sports bettor Rufus Peabody if betting on Scheffler is becoming like betting on Mayweather. "Haha," laughed Peabody. "He's just playing really, really well."

If we are going to bet on other golfers besides Scheffler, maybe we need to change our approach and just focus on top-20, top-10 or top-five finishes. VSiN host of "A Numbers Game" Gill Alexander recalled a time a while back when he told me he felt Scheffler was built differently. "He sure has narrowed what you can bet, for sure," Alexander said.

With their first child on the way and another win secured, it is a special time for the Schefflers. It is incredible, too, for golf fans – and absolutely a very interesting time for golf bettors.

The best golf clubs in moscow: luxury, exclusivity, and entertainment.

  • The Best Golf Clubs in…

In Russia, the western concept of building architecturally beautiful golf courses filled with modern and luxurious amenities has found fertile ground. What was considered a frivolous pastime during the time of the Soviets has become the latest trend for the stylish set. These days, there are countless options around Moscow to practice golf, polo, ski, yachting, and other sports alongside 5-star hotels, luxurious country houses, and magnificent villas.

The game of golf is a sport that requires passion and expertise. It is also part of a culture that considers this pastime a synonym of social prestige and exclusivity. In recent years, the new Russian elite has turned to golf as a vehicle of integration in the era of globalization. Golf courses are also meeting and socializing spaces where Muscovite tycoons can relax and also seal business deals.

Golf Courses in Russia

The Moscow Country Club, Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club, Tseleevo Golf & Polo Club, and Zavidovo Golf Club, PGA National Russia are some of the most exclusive and elegant golf courses in Russia. Some of them have made it to the list of Top 15 golf clubs in the world, a source of great prestige for the country.

The Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club is 18 miles from the heart of Moscow, close to historical monuments from the 17th and 18th centuries. Designed by famed architects Paul and Dave Thomas , this 18-hole course is part of a complex that includes a yacht club, an equestrian center, and a health and wellness facility. Pestovo Golf & Yacht Club is Russia’s version of a classic country club with multiple attractions.

This park is among the best in Eastern Europe and was awarded the 2014 World Golf Award as the best golf course in Russia. Less than 60 miles from Moscow, this golf course with a definite Scottish design is the only one in Russia recognized as a PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association) from Britain and Ireland. Located in an ecologically pristine area on the banks of the Volga River, the Zavidovo Golf Club embodies the spirit and appearance of the legendary Scottish golf courses. Its many springs and streams, hills, forests, swamps and lakes justify its reputation as a very demanding circuit. Last year, it entered the exclusive club of the 15 best golf courses in the world.   ■

Wolstenholme ready to take on Moscow

August 16, 2018.

Gary Wolstenholme is preparing himself for ‘a test of golf' at Moscow Country Club with the VTB Russian Open Golf Championship (Senior) set to get under way on Friday.

And Wolstenhome, a three-time winner on the Staysure Tour, has played Moscow Country Club on two previous occasions and he is relishing the chance to tackle a course which he believes is in better condition than ever.

“This is the third time I've been here and I've become more impressed with the golf course as I've played it,” said Wolstenholme. “I think the golf course is definitely in a lot better condition than when we were here three or four years ago.

“The weather's been very difficult, so the green staff have had to work very hard to make this such a good venue. The design of the golf course is an extremely good test.

“It's long and it creates a test for players to play both right-to-left and left-to-right shots which, if you're a golfer, you appreciate that creates more of a test in itself.

“I think the course lends itself to long hitting, especially with the weather that we had last night as the course is pretty long anyway.

“Magnus P Atlevi, Stephen Dodd, Phil Price, from Wales, and Phil Golding, who won at London Golf Club recently, all stand out to me as having a chance to do well, but golf being golf, who knows? I might even do well! It's such a good test, I think only a very good player will do well here.”

Golf is an emerging sport in Russia and Moscow Country Club is at the forefront of the quest to encourage more of the country's natives to start playing.

Wolstenhome, GB&I's record points scorer at the Walker Cup who also received an MBE in 2007 for services to golf, has outlined both what he thinks is needed to grow the game, and some of the benefits which accompany it.

“To me, I think driving ranges are the future as far as giving people an opportunity to play the game,” he said.

“Short golf is the future, as are par three tournaments and things like that. To me, that's where we can get golf going in the future.

“Golf has the opportunity to be able to cross dividing lines, whether it's social or cultural. The great thing about golf is wherever you go in the world – and there are golf courses everywhere – from war-torn areas to the most affluent areas in the world, you transcend that.

“You can have somebody who is the lowest of the low from the point of view of not earning a great amount of money to multi-millionaires. You share that enjoyment of what is actually an incredibly difficult sport.”

Joining Wolstenholme in Russia this week is Staysure PGA Seniors Championship winner Philip Golding, Order of Merit Number Five Phillip Price, WINSTONgolf Senior Open champion Stephen Dodd and 1989 European Tour Number One Ronan Rafferty

The action begins in Russia on Friday August 17, with José Manuel Carriles and Jean Pierre Sallat the first group to tee off at 8.00am local time (BST+2).
