The Original Vintage Trailer and Camper Club
Manufacturer Information
Red Guthrie and Dale Martfeld began RV manufacturing in a building previously used as a chicken house. The first Recreational Vehicle they built was a fold-down camping trailer. Later they added camper tops for pick ups followed by slide-in pickup campers. As camping in RV’s increased in popularity they expanded and began building Travel Trailers, 5th Wheel Trailers, Chassis Mount Campers, Mini Motorhomes and finally full sized Class A Motorhomes. The business changed hands several times until Red Dale RVs were no longer produced!
Founded by Dale Martfeld and Red Guthrie in an old poultry shed in Longmont in 1958, Red Dale Travel Trailers became a phenomenon in the ’60s as families searched for a way comfortably explore the country with their young families.
“It was an easy way for families to get together for an adventure,” Kristy Meining said. “Even mom could go if you had a camper because you could bring all the modern conveniences with you. Back in that time, this was luxury.”
Just a few years after its founding, Red Dale Travel Trailers moved from the poultry shed to proper factory on Boston Avenue and Bowen Street. A few years after that, Red Dale campers were sold at over 200 dealerships in 27 states and operated factories in Longmont, Woodland, California, and Mansfield, Texas.
There was even a Red Dale fan club created called the Longmont Drifters that would get together each summer to show off their campers and enjoy the outdoors together. In 1968, according to an old edition of the Longmont Times-Call, the Drifters’ annual roundup gathered over 300 campers carrying 1,000 people from 14 different states around Roosevelt Park.
Nevertheless, despite the camper’s popularity, once President Jimmy Carter threatened to institute gas rationing in 1979, Martfield and Guthrie decided to shut down the plants and close Red Dale campers for good.
Closing the factories, however, made the campers even more popular and today they’re considered a collector’s item. Several Red Dale Campers groups still exist today.

Restored red dale camper brings back fond memories old longmont.
Editor’s note: An earlier version of this story misspelled Dale Martfeld’s surname. The story has been corrected.
Driving onto the Meining’s property off Yellowstone Road in Longmont, you’d swear you just stumbled into a Norman Rockwell painting.
Surrounding the idyllic farmhouse are vintage cars from the ’50s and ’60s painted in bright orange, red and turquoise. But what really completes the picture is a perfectly refurbished 1967 Red Dale Travel Trailer named Middie.

“It just brings back a lot of fond memories,” Meining said. “My parents had a red and white camper with a matching station wagon and each summer they would pack my three sisters and I in the back and drive to Yellowstone.”
Having lived in Longmont for over 20 years, when Kristy found a Red Dale camper for sale just outside Colorado Springs, she knew she had to have it.
“It’s like being in a time machine,” she said. “It’s so much fun.”
Her husband Ron Meining, who founded and served as the sole mechanic of Meining Automotive for many years, restored the paint job, polished the chrome accents, and refurbished the original floors, paneling, cabinets, light fixtures, and even fixed the old stove and icebox.
Kristy took on the job of collecting vintage knick knacks to decorate the 14-foot camper in a mid-century modern style. There’s an old transistor radio, funky curtains with cushions to match and even an old tea pot.
Outside the camper is a long teal awning, with lawn chairs, an old water cooler and even some plastic flamingos.
While Kristy said she plans to take it out next summer, towed by a turquoise 1964 Mercury Monterey, for now, it functions as her “she-shed.”
“I had to throw two different parties to let everyone see it,” she said. “Altogether I’d say we had about 50 people show up. I’m so pleased with how it turned out. I can’t wait to get it out, I can’t imagine the look’s we’ll get.”

Information
I've set up this group because we've just purchased a 1969 Red Dale Camper and we haven't found much information about them.
We also want to connect with Red Dale owners (present or past).
Anyway, we want to encourage Red Dales owners to share photos (new or old), stories, and details (true or not) about the Red Dale Coach Company that was originally based out of Longmont, Colorado, USA.

Right, I am familiar with the external tank you speak of, I have one. Just never had a pickup camper before so wanted to make sure I set it up right. Right now, I have 4 separate drains. I suppose I need to run all 4 to 1, correct? Now the shower drain seems to be different, and I believe that just runs to the ground. Any more insight would be great. I can take a picture if needed.
I think some folks use a portable waste tank and as such, don't have grey water tanks or the like. Also when your at a site with hookups you just run a 3" line with some slope to the waste hookup that they provide. With the portable tanks, you set them on the ground near your waste outlet, with a hose of course, and when you're done camping you carry them back home, or to a dump site and empty them there. They are designed for this. some even have wheels so you can tow them to the dump site
Well, LPG door is secured now and I have taken the number off the plate, by the door. Tried looking it up but nothing really comes up. The number is 0572923 That last digit is hard to read but pretty sure it is a 3. Thanks for any help, that can be provided.
I have added some pictures now, if anyone is interested. All I need to do now is secure the LPG door, fill the system with water and test it, figure out what I need as far as gray water tank. All my plumbing just runs out to the back and down. It attaches to nothing, no tank just piping straight down.
Hello everyone, I have recently purchase a Red Dale cabover camper, early 80's model I guess. It has been redone and I have slowly finished the job that was started. It is in great shape on the inside and the outside just needs paint and a LPG door, mine blew off. Will add a photo soon, just wanted to say hello.
Julie Mitchell.
I'm in the process of renovating and restoring my '64 and it's been pretty involved. To get to the electrical in mine I had to take out the cabinets, counter (sink, icebox, everything) so if you don't have to it's best to keep it intact if it's serviceable. If it's not then you have a project on your hands! =)

Iam looking for tailights for our 1982 Travelmate motorhome. They have 3 lenses and are surface mount. They were very common in the 70 and 80 not made anymore. Looking to purchase a pair.

2017 Tiffin Allegro RED 38QRA
Brandon, Florida
Make Tiffin Allegro RED
Model 38QRA
Category Class A
Posted 1 Month Ago
This coach appears to be in very good condition and well-maintained. The coach is kept in a shaded area, and it shows the paint is beautiful and shows very little signs of age. There is some mold under the clear protective coat in front of the coach, but it's not bad (and can be removed if desired). Inside the coach, everything also appears to be in very good condition. Everything works on the coach per the seller, except for the macerator. Of course, we always recommend that any buyer inspect the unit or have it independently surveyed to confirm its condition before purchase. Stock #354213 THE 2017 ALLEGRO RED 38QRA BY TIFFIN IS THE PERFECT BLEND OF QUALITY AND COMFORT! If you're looking for higher-end Class A Diesel Pusher, you likely know the reputation and popularity of the Allegro Red Series from Tiffin. This 2015 Allegro 38QBA lives up to that pedigree and will be a very nice coach for its new owner for years. Built on the Freightliner XC series chassis and powered by a Cummins I6 diesel motor mated to a 6-speed automatic overdrive Allison transmission, rest easy knowing this coach is built to last. It also includes an Rv Garmin and a tire pressure warning system. for your added convenience and safety! Rated at 360 HP and 660 ft-lbs of torque and equipped with a receiver hitch, the coach can add a towed vehicle or trailer out back. Stepping into the coach's interior, you'll immediately notice the roomy and spacious feel afforded by the two main opposing slides (4 total slides), with the kitchen and a jackknife love seat on the left and the extra large dinette/sofa on the opposite side. The kitchen rivals most residential ones with a three burner propane cooktop, double well sink, hood-mounted convection oven/microwave combo, and a traditional propane RV-style oven. This includes ample cabinet space for all your provisions and a full-size refrigerator/freezer. There is a half bathroom on the opposite side which features a toilet, sink, and vanity, along with more storage. The main bedroom can be completely closed off from the rest of the coach and has a full ensuite bathroom with a standup shower, an integrated skylight cover with LED light, a toilet, a sink, and a vanity. There's also a separate washer and dryer in the master bedroom for your convenience. The large powered awning gives you plenty of patio space to relax camp side and to keep up on your favorite team or show with the exterior TV. Plenty of basement storage, including a convenient slide-out tray accessible from either side. Also worth noting are the slide toppers on all four slide-outs! See this beauty for yourself today, and prepare for your next adventures! Reason for selling is downsizing.

This heavily used old trailer won't win a beauty contest, but it is leak-free, cozy, self-contained, and has everything you need for immediate occupation. I've had several small old trailers, and this one is by far my favorite. This trailer has been in nearly constant use for the last 3 years, and surely has some other maintenance and/or repair issues that I haven't mentioned here, but is essentially ready to go right now. Hook it up to your truck, take it to the woods, and be cozy and warm. I've even left dishes in the cupboards, clean sheets in the cabinet, and silverware in the drawer. I use a handyman jack and jack stands for leveling; you can have the jack stands. General Notes The heating system is custom and is the best you've ever seen in a camper. The new (2013) axle has less than 5000 miles on it, and the tires are also fairly new and in great shape. There's a full-size spare in the rear compartment. The main bunk has a futon on it which is thick and great for keeping the cold out from below. There is new (2013) linoleum throughout the main living area. It's easy to keep clean and looks nice. All of the cabinets are in pretty rough shape, but serviceable. At least two of them have broken latches. The galley countertops and the table have heavy scratches and wear marks, but are intact and not structurally damaged. There is no refrigerator, only an ice box. It is original and also shows signs of heavy wear, but is not broken or damaged. The 3-burner propane stove is clean and trouble free. The oven looks like heck but works great and doesn't smoke. There is a large impromptu shelf above the bunk made from plywood. It's ugly but holds your gear. The roof was re-sealed in 2012 and is still perfectly water-tight. The windows are in pretty rough shape, one of them has been boarded up and all of them are drafty, but they open and close and have curtains. The door has trouble closing and is also drafty, and the doorknob is junk but works. There is no toilet. Thank goodness for that, if you ask me. The galley faucet does not work. I don't use the original water tank, because water in it freezes during the winter. There is a 10-gallon galvanized portable tank that I keep on the counter top with its spigot sticking out over the sink. The sink drains directly to the outside, I usually put a bucket under the drain. The 110V system is intact but has unusable because the plug on the outside is broken. I never replaced the plug because I don't use 110V. There are places to plug in your car chargers for phone and laptop, so the solar panel can power everything you need. Heating System Excellent and economical heat! A 4-gallon propane-fired boiler heats a glycol mixture to 170 degrees F, which is then circulated by a 12V high-efficiency pump through 3 independently controllable loops: 1 large double radiator under the galley table, 1 small single radiator in the center on the right side, and a foot-warming loop at the foot of the bed. There are two 7-gallon propane tanks (replaced the small tanks you see in the photos), which is enough fuel to run the heat and do your cooking for 4 weeks in zero-degree weather, and for up to 2 months in weather near freezing. The glycol mixture is currently 15%, I think, so you may need to adjust it if you're going to be in seriously cold weather. When the windows are sealed with plastic (I usually wrap the window screens in saran-wrap during the winter), this system can keep you warm in nearly any weather, compensating adequately for the poor insulation that these campers unfortunately have. The state-of-the-art European radiators provide clean, dry heat. The one under the galley table will warm you up fast when you come back from a long day in the blustery weather, and the little one in the middle is a great place to dry your socks. The foot-warming loop at the foot of the bed is directly above the boiler, and circulates by convection even without the pump. Enjoy a cozy night's sleep with warm toes, no matter what the weather is doing outside! The radiators have bleed valves you can use to purge air from the system. This is often necessary when the camper experiences big changes in altitude. Electrical System There are 2 marine-grade deep-cycle batteries, each of which will run the high-efficiency low-draw circulation pump for the heater for 2 weeks without re-charging. A top-of-the-line 60W solar panel and 6A charge controller keep your main battery fully charged, even in overcast weather. The panel's 90% efficiency means you don't have to worry about how much sun you're getting, just keep the panel free of snow. There are 12V lights inside, but I usually use the propane lantern above the galley table. The electric light over the galley is useful for cooking, though. LED tail lights are bright and safe, and won't change the blink speed even on older trucks using the old thermo-flasher. One of them is damaged from backing into a post, but it's just cosmetic. The light still works and since it's LED it's still red, so you won't get pulled over for it. There is no 110V power, but all it needs is an external plug to get that system working again. Note on the Photos The photos here are recent and representative, but they don't show the damage to the tail light and rear left corner or the broken front window and damaged awning. They show small propane tanks which have now been replaced with big ones. You are responsible for inspecting the trailer before you agree to buy it. My opinion about the worthiness of the trailer for occupation may differ from yours. I've been living in it and I find it comfortable, but I'm used to living a bit rough, so I don't guarantee it won't offend more delicate sensibilities. Please be sure before you commit to buy.

American Hauler Utility Trailer 2011 Almost Pristine Condition, Little Used, Red
Boalsburg, Pennsylvania
Make American Hauler
Hello and thanks for your interest in my item! I purchased this utility trailer new to help us to move my mother into an assisted living facility. We moved some light furniture that she needed, i.e., recliner, end table, coffee table, personal items, etc. Once she was settled in, we began carrying miscellaneous items from her house to Good Will and other charity organizations and some light furniture to the kids' homes, etc. Overall, I'd be surprised if the trailer has traveled more than 1000 miles total! When I purchased the trailer, I also purchased the larger of two tire and wheel options above and beyond the cost of the standard trailer. The tire specs are also listed in the pictures section. I was impressed with the quality construction of this trailer. The frame is made from "C-channel" steel members. This is significantly better than the typical home improvement center el-cheapo trailers that use simple right angle stock for their frames. The frame was undercoated when built. Be sure to check out the detailed photos. This trailer has never been overloaded, has been used to carry light loads relative to its true capabilities and I had a carpet on its floor to protect the plywood from abrasion and other damage. Therefore, the condition both inside and out, is almost pristine. It is very, very clean and would be a wise purchase for anyone needing a sturdy utility trailer.
