Ringo Starr’s All Starr Band Announces Fall 2023 Tour

Ringo Starr 's All Starr Band will hit the road this fall for a U.S. tour throughout September and October.

The monthlong trek will begin on Sept. 17 in Ontario, California, and run through Oct. 13 in Thackerville, Oklahoma. You can see the full list of dates below.

The current All Starr Band lineup features  Steve Lukather , Colin Hay , Edgar Winter , Warren Ham, Hamish Stuart and Gregg Bissonette. The band had to postpone and cancel several 2022 dates due to various COVID infections — including two for Starr — but the drummer is adamant about keeping the show on the road whenever possible.

"I was in Atlanta in bed with the flu once and had to cancel two gigs, that's the only time," the former Beatle told Pollstar . "I love to play. I love an audience. This is a known fact. I keep telling the band, If only three people turn up, we're playing."

Before the fall trek, Starr will kick off his  spring tour on May 19 in Temecula, California.

Ringo Starr announces 2023 North American tour dates with All Starr Band

“I love playing with the All Starrs and can’t wait to be back out on the road again," the Beatles drummer said

ringo all starr tour 2023

Ringo Starr has announced new dates for a 2023 North American tour accompanied by his All Starr band.

The former Beatles drummer will perform mostly at West Coast venues throughout May and June, including a three-night stint at the Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas. He’ll be joined on the 19-date tour by his All Starr bandmates Steve Lukather, Colin Hay, Edgar Winter, Warren Ham, Hamish Stuart and Gregg Bissonette.

Starr’s tour begins in California on May 19, with two successive dates in Phoenix following after. He will perform his Vegas residency after that, before a two-night outing in San Diego from May 28. The remaining itinerary consists of shows in Seattle, Denver and San Francisco, with the final date slated for California’s San Jose Civic venue on June 17. See the full list of tour dates below, and head here for tickets.

“It’s a new year and here are some new tour dates,” Starr said in a statement. “I love playing with the All Starrs and can’t wait to be back out on the road again with this band.”

The new tour comes after Starr was forced to cancel — on two occasions — a slew of dates for his 2022 tour after contracting COVID-19 . Prior to that, 12 dates of the same tour were postponed when Winter and Lukafather likewise tested positive for the virus. “[Ringo] hopes to resume [touring] as soon as possible”, a statement said at the time.

Starr’s most recent project, an EP titled ‘EP3’, arrived in September of last year. Before that, Starr put out his latest solo album, ‘What’s My Name’, in 2019. He shared two EPs in 2021: ‘Zoom In’ and ‘Change The World’ . In a three-star review upon its release, NME described ‘Zoom In’ as “the sort of upbeat, unrelenting jollity we expect from Ringo”.

Ringo Starr and All Starr Band’s 2023 North American tour dates are:

Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band Are “Ready to Rock” on Spring 2023 Tour

by Cillea Houghton May 24, 2023, 12:40 pm

Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band are ready to rock.

Videos by American Songwriter

The iconic Beatles’ drummer and the current members of his All-Starr Band – Steve Lukather, Colin Hay, Edgar Winter, Warren Ham, Hamish Stuart, Gregg Bissonette – recently launched their spring 2023 tour in the U.S. Ahead of the tour, Starr and his bandmates shared their excitement with American Songwriter and other media during a press conference at rehearsals.

“The rehearsals are going great,” Starr said at the time. “I feel ready to rock.”

“[I’m] having the time of my life in this band,” added Lukather. “Love everybody, it’s going to be a great tour. We’re really excited to be here.”

“I love touring, but there’s no touring like touring with Ringo,” praises Stuart.

One of the trademarks of the All-Starr band that makes it unique is that each of the members gets to perform songs from their individual careers, alongside Starr’s hits. Collectively, the musicians have also played for Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Toto and many more iconic acts. Among the songs that have made the setlist include Starr’s “It Don’t Come Easy,” the Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends,” a cover of Toto’s “Africa” led by Toto founder Lukather, “Pick Up the Pieces” by Average White Band of which Stuart is an original member and Men at Work’s hit “Overkill” that was founded by frontman Hay.

The bandmates agree that the sense of freedom they have onstage when it comes to reimagining their songs is part of what makes the live experience so enjoyable. “It’s such an interesting variety of material,” Winter explains. “I think that the chemistry of a band is a very unique and personal thing. I try to find a place to really listen and fit into what everybody else is doing. Then it becomes a whole new experience and a whole new thing. I think we do a lot of these songs in a very unique way that you will never have heard before.”

“It’s great playing with this band and for the freedom of…that we may change it a little,” shares Starr. “It’s not actually what was on the record, and that’s fine by me.”

“We put our own imprint into it,” adds Ham. “That’s what makes it unique and so much fun.”

The tour launched on May 19 in Temecula, California, and makes stops in San Diego and San Francisco; Seattle, Washington; Denver, Colorado; and Salt Lake City, Utah. The band will play three shows at the Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas, Nevada; and appear at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, California, before the tour wraps on June 17 in San Jose, California.

They’ll then embark on a fall tour in 2023 that runs from September 17 until October 13.

Ringo Starr reflects on All-Starr Band tour, the Beatles and more: 'I had a dream at 13'

ringo all starr tour 2023

Ringo Starr and his bandmates have taken a break from rehearsals for their first show of the year to field reporters’ questions in a Zoom call, doing all they can to crack each other up while interacting more like old friends than a member of the world's most famous rock band and his latest batch of hired guns.

Rehearsals have been going great as they get reacquainted with the staples of an All-Starr Band performance, from the drummer’s own material to Edgar Winter singing “Free Ride” or Colin Hay dusting off Men at Work’s “Who Can It Be Now?”

“Yesterday, we ran the whole show and I feel ready to rock,” Starr says.

Toto guitarist Steve Lukather says he’s been “having the time of my life in this band, always have.”

Second drummer Gregg Bissonette says they’ve been “having the greatest time playing the greatest songs with the greatest — my drum hero, my dear pal. What a ball. What an honor."

Don't miss out: A Beatle and great restaurant deals are among this weekend's best happenings in Phoenix

'I don't want to sit in the hotel and relax,' Ringo Starr says

Starr is especially pleased to be heading back out on the road after being forced to cancel dates last year because of COVID-19.

“Last year was a bit awkward because the first tour went down, the second tour went down but we have great confidence we're gonna do all the gigs,” he says.

The drummer dismissed a question about how he stays healthy given such a grueling schedule.

“It's not grueling,” he says. “Playing has never been grueling. I love to play. I love to play with these guys. We are the best band in this room. It's not tiring. Nobody wants to tour, but you've gotta tour to play.”

He even had their booking agent add more dates to their initial tour plans.

“Dave Hart, who put the tour together, gave us too many days off,” Starr recalls. “So I complained. And he's filled in some of them now, because if I'm on the road, I want to play. I don't want to sit in the hotel and relax for three days. I want to get out there and play. It's just how I am. I just love to do it.”

Why Ringo Starr can play more shows a week than Paul McCartney

It's easier to go out there and do shows every night in this band “because everybody takes the weight,” he says, compared with how his former bandmate Paul McCartney tours, where’s he the focus of the show.

“ He has to have time off, you know, to get himself back together,” Starr says. “But because we're this crowd, we could play every night. I promise you, we could play every night.”

Then with the expert comic timing that became the stuff of legends at those early Beatles press conferences, he deadpans, “But Edgar needs a day off."

This, of course, inspired laughter all around.

What Ringo Starr has learned about doing the All-Starr Band

The legendary drummer launched his All-Starr Band in 1989. He’s had a bit of a rotating lineup through the years, especially at first.

Past members have included Joe Walsh, Nils Lofgren, Dr. John, Billy Preston, Rick Danko, Levon Helm, Clarence Clemons, Todd Rundgren, Dave Edmunds, Burton Cummings, Timothy B. Schmit, Randy Bachman, Mark Farner, Felix Cavaliere, John Entwistle, Jack Bruce, Peter Frampton and Mr. Mister’s Richard Page and Pat Mastelotto.

This year’s lineup features several familiar faces. Bissonnette has been on board since 2008, Lukather joined in 2012 and saxophonist Warren Ham has been an All-Starr since 2014. Winter, Hay and Hamish Stuart (Average White Band) have done several tours of duty.

“Well, I think I'm learning,” Starr explains. “When I first started putting All-Starr Bands together, we would change the band completely. We did that for 20 years ... because I thought that's what I had to do. Change the band. But this band is good for me. I'm ready.”

At an All-Starr Band performance works each musician gets a turn in the spotlight to perform their own hits in addition to backing the man of the hour on crowd-pleasing classics as timeless like "It Don't Come Easy," "I'm the Greatest," "Photograph" and "Octopus' Garden."

Lukather loves that aspect of these tours.

“I was sort of born and trained to be a studio musician since I was a teenager, so I love the challenge of playing other people's music,” he says.

“I have more fun playing their stuff than mine, I can tell you that. Plus playing all the great Ringo hits and Beatles stuff never gets old. It’s just a joy. This is not work. This is a vacation as far as I'm concerned.”

Starr on the Beatles: 'I played in the greatest band in my world with three brothers'

It’s been 34 years since the drummer launched his first tour with the All-Starr Band and Starr sounds like he has no plans on slowing down.

“It's what I do,” he says. “I love to play. I love to play with great musicians. I love to play great songs. And I get all of that from these guys.”

It’s been that way since Liverpool, when he was playing skiffle with a group called Eddie Clayton and the Clayton Squares before grabbing the Beatles’ attention with his command of the beat and undeniable charisma as the drummer for another great Liverpool group, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes.

“I've played with a couple of good bands,” Starr says. “And I played in the greatest band in my world with three brothers. You know, I just love playing live, and it's difficult being a drummer and playing live because if I come on stage tonight just me and the kit, 'Hey, how you doing?'”

Starr begins to sing the chorus to the Beatles’ “Yellow Submarine” while playing air drums, much to his bandmates’ amusement.

Had he followed his dream of singing in bars while accompanying himself on piano, he figures he would be playing even more shows.

"But I need all these great guys behind me to play with me,” Starr says. “It's a band thing. I love being in a band. I may have my name but I'm in this band.”

As the conversation turns to favorite gigs, Starr says the best are always “last night and 1964.”

Why Ringo Starr has switched from making albums to EPs

The drummer also talks about the string of EPs he’s released since his last full-length effort, “What’s My Name,” arrived in late 2019.

“I just felt an EP, you can sort of look at it in a serious way and you can do it in a month,” he says. “An album does take longer. So that's what I've been doing.”

The third of those EPs, “EP3,” hit the streets in September. He just finished recording another before rehearsals started for this tour.

There’s another EP in the works with Linda Perry, who’s writing all the songs. As Ringo says, “The only thing I'll be doing on that EP is playing drums and singing.

He’s also working on a country music EP. “But that won’t be out until next year,” he says.

'I had a dream at 13. I wanted to be a drummer'

In the meantime, he’s got shows to play.

“I had a dream at 13. I wanted to be a drummer,” Starr says. “And that dream is still going on. So my life is easy.”

Playing music is “something I do and that I love to do,” he says. “I've never once not loved doing it.”

Ringo Starr announces fall 2024 fall tour, Radio City concert. Get tickets

Over 60 years have passed since The Beatles’ historic Ed Sullivan Show performance in February 1964.

Still, at 83 years young, Sir Ringo Starr shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

In addition to releasing the four-song EP “Crooked Boy” on April 20, the former Beatle just announced a fall 2024 North American tour with his All Starr Band which includes Edgar Winter, Colin Hay from Men At Work and Toto singer Steve Lukather among others.

The eight-show jaunt wraps at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall on Wednesday, Sept. 25.

Prior to the tour, Starr and co. will put on a brief spring Las Vegas residency with a few West Coast gigs in California and Texas sprinkled in for good measure.

For fans that can’t wait to sing along with Starr to “Yellow Submarine,” “Octopus’s Garden,” “With A Little Help From My Friends” and so many timeless classic hits live, tickets for all shows can be yours as soon as today.

Although inventory for the newly announced tour dates aren’t available on Ticketmaster until Friday, April 26, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before tickets are officially on sale.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

A complete calendar including all U.S. and Canada tour dates, venues and links to buy tickets can be found below.

With way more than a half century’s worth of music under his belt, it’s likely not easy for Starr to compile a set list with such a large catalog.

In any event, here’s what he plays at most shows on the road these days, based on our findings at  Set List FM .

01.) “Matchbox” (Carl Perkins cover)

02.) “It Don’t Come Easy” (Ringo Starr song)

03.) “What Goes On” (The Beatles cover)

04.) “Free Ride” (The Edgar Winter Group cover) (with Edgar Winter)

05.) “Rosanna” (Toto cover) (with Steve Lukather)

06.) “Pick Up the Pieces” (Average White Band cover) (with Hamish Stuart)

07.) “Down Under” (Men at Work cover) (with Colin Hay)

08.) “Boys” (The Shirelles cover)

09.) “I’m the Greatest” (Ringo Starr song)

10.) “Yellow Submarine” (The Beatles cover)

Set Without Ringo

11.) “Cut the Cake” (Average White Band cover) (with Hamish Stuart)

12.) “Frankenstein” (The Edgar Winter Group cover) (with Edgar Winter)

Ringo Returns

13.) “Octopus’s Garden” (The Beatles cover)

14.) “Back Off Boogaloo” (Ringo Starr song)

15.) “Overkill” (Men at Work cover) (with Colin Hay)

16.) “Africa” (Toto cover) (with Steve Lukather)

17.) “Work to Do” (The Isley Brothers cover) (with Hamish Stuart)

18.) “I Wanna Be Your Man” (The Beatles cover)

19.) “Johnny B. Goode” (Chuck Berry cover) (with Edgar Winter)

20.) “Who Can It Be Now?” (Men at Work cover) (with Colin Hay)

21.) “Hold the Line” (Toto cover) (with Steve Lukather)

22.) “Photograph” (Ringo Starr song)

23.) “Act Naturally” (Johnny Russell cover)

24.) “With a Little Help From My Friends” (The Beatles cover)

Even at his advanced age, Ringo is still doing the dang thing and putting in work.

In October 2022, the former Fab Four drummer dropped the  four-song “EP3”  with his All-Starr Band.

Composed of feel-good anthems and sing-a-longs, somehow the lad from Liverpool is still bringing the goods.

Ultimate Classic Rock  called the short offering “genuine and infectious.”

You can listen to the four tracks here .

In 2023, he released three singles including a new version of “Let It Be” with Dolly Parton and Paul McCartney.

Next up, he’s putting out his “Crooked Boy” EP. The rock-y lead single “February Sky” shows Starr’s memorable voice sounds just as potent as it did back in his Beatles days.
