Katie Holmes recently shared how proud she is of her daughter Suri Cruise , who shows off her vocal skills in the opening credits of Holmes' new movie, "Alone Together."

In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment about the new film, which Holmes directed, the " Dawson's Creek " star said that her 16-year-old daughter sings "Blue Moon" during the credits and called her "very talented."

"I always want the highest level of talent," Holmes said. "So I asked her! She's very, very talented. She said she would do it and she recorded it, and I let her do her thing. That's the way I direct in general: It's like, 'This is what I think we all want -- go do your thing.'"

"Alone Together" isn't the first film in which Suri has showcased her voice. Holmes said that her daughter also sang in the film "Rare Objects," a period drama based on the novel by author Kathleen Tessaro, which Holmes also directed.

When Suri isn't busy making music, Holmes said her daughter enjoys just being a teen.

Holmes, who was 27 years old when she welcomed her daughter in 2006 with ex-husband Tom Cruise , doesn't often post photos of her daughter in order to keep her private life private.

In 2019, she spoke about "growing up" with her daughter in an interview with Elle UK .

"It's been nice that our ages fit," she said. "Every age that my child has been and my age at that time has been a good match. We kind of grew up together."

Katie Holmes is endlessly proud of her little girl.

During a discussion about her new film Alone Together , the Dawson's Creek alum, 43, told Yahoo! Entertainment that she wanted "the highest level of talent" for her new film, which is how daughter Suri became involved.

Holmes shares that she asked her 16-year-old daughter to record the cover of "Blue Moon" that appears in the film's opening credits. "I always want the highest level of talent, so I asked her!"

"She's very, very talented. She said she would do it and she recorded it, and I let her do her thing," Holmes — who wrote, directed and stars in the film — says. "That's the way I direct in general: It's like, 'This is what I think we all want — go do your thing.' "

That's not the only project Suri is involved in, either. "She actually did sing in Rare Objects , which is the film we did last fall," Holmes says, referring to the period drama based on the 2016 bestseller by Kathleen Tessaro.

While Suri's having fun participating in her mom's projects, she's not launching a singing career quite yet. "Other than that, she's a 16-year-old kid doing high school," Holmes says, laughing.

Holmes also explains that she and Suri have a special connection to "Blue Moon." Holmes was inspired to write Alone Together , in part, by the 1987 Diane Keaton comedy Baby Boom . Keaton sings "Blue Moon" in the 2014 Rob Reiner film, And So It Goes .

"Diane met my daughter when she was a year old," Holmes tells Yahoo! Entertainment, noting that it made her daughter singing the classic 1934 ballad in her film a full-circle moment for Holmes, a devoted Keaton fan.

In November 2020, Holmes wrote a piece for Vogue Australia's November issue about how the COVID-19 pandemic — which Alone Together focuses on — allowed for more introspection and quality time with her daughter.

"Hobbies such as sewing, painting and writing became new hallmarks of satisfaction and having had time at home to just be. To listen," she wrote at the time. "To live for a moment in time without the pressure of results and instead appreciate the natural rhythms of mother and daughter was the most precious gift ."

The Batman Begins actress went on to recall how she reinforced her mantra to be more present in her daily life during isolation.

"During this time of uncertainty, remembering to be creative and positive has been something I have tried to keep at the forefront of my mind," said Holmes. "Throughout this experience the through-line for me has been a heightened awareness of each moment and really taking it in and appreciating it."

Is Suri Cruise considering a musical career? Not quite, but the daughter of Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise is indeed honing her singing chops with the help of her mom.

In a new interview with Yahoo! Entertainment , Holmes reveals that her 16-year-old daughter recorded a cover of the classic song "Blue Moon" for the opening credits of Holmes' latest film, "Alone Together."

“I always want the highest level of talent, so I asked her! She’s very, very talented,” the 43-year-old explained.

Holmes pulled triple duty for the recently released film, which she wrote, directed and starred in. The proud mom gushed about her daughter's skills and said she gave her plenty of creative space to explore her passion.

“She said she would do it and she recorded it, and I let her do her thing,” she said. “That’s the way I direct in general: It’s like, ‘This is what I think we all want — go do your thing.'"

Holmes, who recently explained why there will not be a reboot of her classic TV show “Dawson’s Creek,” said she and Suri are particularly fond of the song "Blue Moon" for a few reasons. For starters, Diane Keaton's 1987 film "Baby Boom" was one of the influences on "Alone Together," and Keaton happened to cover the song in the 2014 film "And So It Goes."

“Diane met my daughter when she was a year old,” Holmes explained.

The actor is notoriously private and only rarely shares photos of Suri, so her fans might be surprised to hear that the teenager sings in her new film. But as it turns out, this isn’t the first time Suri has contributed to one of her mom's projects.

“She actually did sing in 'Rare Objects,' which is the film we did last fall,” Holmes said. That movie has yet to be released.

Suri clearly has a budding interest in music, but Holmes is very much focused on giving her daughter a normal childhood.

“Other than that, she’s a 16-year-old kid doing high school,” she said with a laugh.

Over the years, Holmes has sporadically shared photos of her daughter. She posted a video of the teenager running and jumping in an empty street in 2020.

The same year, she also shared a photo of the back of Suri's head to celebrate her 14th birthday.

In 2021, the mom posted a few black-and-white throwback photos of her pride and joy as she turned 15.

“Happy 15th Birthday Sweetheart! I love you!!!!!!!!” she captioned the post. “I can’t believe you are already 15!”

According to Yahoo, the 16-year-old sings a cover of "Blue Moon" that plays at the beginning of the romantic comedy during the opening credits. "Alone Together" follows two people (played by Holmes and costar Jim Sturgess) in failing relationships who end up at the same Airbnb during the coronavirus lockdown.

Suri and Holmes now live together in New York City.

Katie Holmes was looking for the “highest level of talent” for her COVID-era Airbnb rom-com, Alone Together . That's why she reached out to her very own daughter , 16-year-old Suri Cruise .

Holmes , who wrote, directed, and starred in the film, brought in Suri to record a cover of “Blue Moon” for the opening credits. “I always want the highest level of talent,” Holmes told Yahoo Entertainment . “So I asked her! She's very, very talented. She said she would do it and she recorded it, and I let her do her thing. That's the way I direct in general: It's like, ‘This is what I think we all want—go do your thing.’”

The song holds significant sentimental value for the mother-daughter pair. According to Holmes, she was inspired by Diane Keaton's own rendition of “Blue Moon” for Rob Reiner's 2014 film And So It Goes . “Diane met my daughter when she was a year old,” Holmes told Yahoo.

This isn't the first time Suri has been featured in one of her mother's films. “She actually did sing in Rare Objects , which is the film we did last fall,” the proud mom shared. “Other than that, she's a 16-year-old kid doing high school.”

Katie Holmes and her former husband Tom Cruise welcomed Suri in 2006; six years later, the Dawson's Creek star was awarded primary custody . “I like to keep her out of my interviews, but I will say that this time of quarantine has been such a lesson,” she said during an interview with The Daily Telegraph back in 2020. “Just really looking at everything you have and celebrating the simplicity of making dinner and [spending] that time together.”

As Suri gets older, it seems Holmes is becoming more comfortable gushing about her daughter to the press. “I love her so much. Hollywood movie star Katie Holmes is promoting her new film, Alone Together . She stars as the protagonist who shares a house with a stranger ( Jim Sturgess ) with whom she falls for romantically, during the pandemic. It is the second film Holmes has directed. See trailer below.

During a recent interview , Katie confirmed that her 16-year-old daughter Suri Cruise (daughter of Top Gun star Tom Cruise ) sings a cover of the famous 1934 song ‘Blue Moon’ in the opening credits of Alone Together . (Fans will have to watch the film in order to hear Suri singing!)

Katie also confirmed that she was (and continues to be) inspired by Diane Keaton , who sang the song in Rob Reiner’s 2014 film And So It Goes .

Katie Holmes  doesn't want to wait to show off her daughter Suri Cruise 's musical prowess.

The Dawson's Creek alum revealed that she recruited the 16-year-old to sing a cover of "Blue Moon" in the opening credits of  Alone Together , a COVID-19 pandemic-inspired romantic comedy she wrote, directed and stars in. Explaining her decision to include Suri—who she shares with ex-husband Tom Cruise —in the project, Katie told  Yahoo! Entertainment , "I always want the highest level of talent, so I asked her."

"She's very, very talented. She said she would do it and she recorded it, and I let her do her thing," she continued. "That's the way I direct in general: It's like, 'This is what I think we all want—go do your thing.'"

Katie added that Suri's singing will also be featured in her upcoming flick Rare Objects , which she shot last year, though "other than that, she's a 16-year-old kid doing high school."

In a full circle moment, Katie shared that Suri also has a special connection to the classic ballad, which was famously covered by Diane Keaton   in the 2014's  And So It Goes . She noted, "Diane met my daughter when she was a year old."

For her part, Suri has largely  stayed out of the public spotlight  since entering her teenage years. In November 2020, Katie reflected on how the pandemic provided an opportunity to "live for a moment in time without the pressure of results," adding that the "natural rhythms of mother and daughter was the most precious gift."

Suri Cruise, daughter of Hollywood actors Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, made her onscreen singing debut in the recent film Alone Together, which Katie wrote, directed, and starred in. Suri, 16, performed a cover of Blue Moon, which plays in the film’s opening credits. In a new interview, Katie discussed her daughter’s musical talents and how she ended up getting involved in her latest film. The romantic drama released in the US on July 22. Suri is the only daughter of Katie and Tom, who was recently seen in the blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick. The couple first met in 2005, and Suri was born in 2006. Later that same year, Tom and Katie married in Italy. However, after five years of marriage, Katie filed for divorce from Tom in 2012. Days later, the couple reached a settlement, which gave Katie primary custody of Suri. The mother-daughter duo lives in New York City.

Katie praised Suri in a new interview with Fox News as she spoke about her daughter’s artistic prowess. “I always want the highest level of talent. So, I asked her. She's very, very talented. She said she would do it, and she recorded it, and I let her do her thing. That's the way I direct in general. It's like, 'This is what I think we all want – go do your thing.'"

Katie clarified that while Suri might be musically-gifted and featured in the soundtrack of her film, she was still a student. She also said this was not be her daughter’s only onscreen singing gig. Katie said, “She actually did sing in Rare Objects, which is the film we did last year. Other than that, she’s a 16-year-old kid doing high school.”

In Alone Together, Katie stars alongside Jim Sturgess. The romantic comedy is set during the Covid-19 pandemic. It follows a man and woman fleeing New York City during the first wave of the pandemic in 2020.

Katie Holmes Reveals Her "Very Talented" Daughter, Suri, Sings in Her New Film

Suri Cruise is stepping into the spotlight. In a July 26 interview with Yahoo! Entertainment , Katie Holmes revealed her daughter, Suri, whom she shares with Tom Cruise, sings in the actor's new film, "Alone Together."

"I always want the highest level of talent, so I asked her," Holmes said, sharing that Suri sings a cover of "Blue Moon" that appears in the opening credits of "Alone Together," a movie about two strangers forced to live together during the first weeks of Covid-19 lockdowns. Holmes wrote, directed, and stars in the film. "Blue Moon," originally written by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart in 1934, was famously covered by Diane Keaton in the 2014 movie "And So It Goes," and Holmes added that Suri has a connection to the song because Keaton "met my daughter when she was a year old." It also doesn't hurt that Holmes has long been a fan of the "Baby Boom" actor.

She also revealed that 16-year-old Suri sang in her film "Rare Objects," which came out last fall, and praised her daughter's vocal prowess. "She's very, very talented," Holmes said. "She said she would do it, and she recorded it — and I let her do her thing. That's the way I direct in general: it's like, 'This is what I think we all want — go do your thing.'" Still, she emphasized that Suri still lives an ordinary life despite her Hollywood credentials, adding that "other than that, she's a 16-year-old kid doing high school."

Over the years, Holmes has kept her private life quiet, but in 2019, she opened up to Elle UK about why she's glad she became a mom in her 20s. "It's been nice that our ages fit," she told the publication. "How do I put this? Every age that my child has been and my age at that time has been a good match. We kind of grew up together."

And now it seems they might just take Hollywood by storm together, too.

WASHINGTON: Hollywood stars Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' daughter, Suri Cruise, made her on-screen singing debut with the newly released movie 'Alone Together', which has been directed by her mother.

According to Fox News, in an interview with an entertainment news outlet, Holmes said, "I always want the highest level of talent. So, I asked her. She's very, very talented. She said she would do it, and she recorded it, and I let her do her thing. That's the way I direct in general. It's like, 'This is what I think we all want -- go do your thing.'"

In 'Alone Together', Suri has sung a cover of 'Blue Moon', which plays during the opening credits of the film. Holmes told the outlet this will not be her daughter's only on-screen singing gig.

"She actually did sing in 'Rare Objects,' which is the film we did last fall. Other than that, she's a 16-year-old kid doing high school," Holmes explained.

Cruise and Holmes were married from 2006 to 2012. Suri is their only child together, and Suri's parents opted to keep her out of the public eye for the majority of her childhood, reported Fox News.

A romantic comedy set during the coronavirus pandemic, 'Alone Together' has been written and directed by Holmes, also starring Jim Sturgess.

The movie follows a man and woman fleeing New York City during the first wave of the pandemic in 2020. The duo ends up booking the same Airbnb and ultimately decide to stay at the upstate property together.

As per Fox News, Sturgess praised Holmes' directing style and shared that she gives actors wide latitude when they are in front of the camera. "She gives you this incredible space between action and cut," Sturgess said of his co-star.

He added, "She very rarely shouted, 'Cut!' actually. You'd think the scene had ended and she just kind of left it hanging. I love that she was always searching for those little nuggets of authenticity." (ANI)

That’s the way I direct in general: It’s like, ‘This is what I think we all want — go do your thing.’“ And while Cruise is musically gifted and will be featured in the soundtrack of Holmes’ upcoming film, Holmes makes it clear that her daughter is still a student. “She actually did sing in ‘ Rare Objects ,’ which is the film we did last fall,” she said. “Other than that, she’s a 16-year-old kid doing high school.”

Holmes also discussed why the song “Blue Moon,” explaining that it’s featured in “ Baby Boom ” a movie starring Diane Keaton that’s one of the inspirations behind her own film. “Diane met my daughter when she was a year old,” Holmes shared.

“Alone Together” is Holmes’ latest film, following a love story between two people who end up quarantined in the same Airbnb during the start of the pandemic. “It feels very satisfying. It’s my second film that I directed and I feel like I learn every single time. And with this, I have a special sense of pride because it’s all of our film and there was so much collaboration,” she said of the experience in an interview with Reuters .

“Alone Together” is currently screening in select theaters and will be available to stream starting July 29th.

Katie Holmes is a true mama bear! Inside the latest issue of Glamour magazine , the 44-year-old opens up about raising her and Tom Cruise's 16-year-old daughter, Suri Cruise.

When speaking about being a mother of a teenager, the Dawson's Creek alum gives rare insight on the key part of her role. 

"What has been really important for me with my daughter, because she was so visible at a young age, is I really like to protect her," she tells the magazine. "I’m very grateful to be a parent, to be her parent. She’s an incredible person."

Holmes is about to celebrate Suri's 17th birthday on April 18, and couldn't be prouder of her daughter. The teenager is already making a name for herself and carving out a little bit of a path in entertainment, thanks to her mother. Suri sings a cover of "Blue Moon" in Holmes' film, Alone Together , and she can also be heard in Holmes' other project,  Rare Objects .

When it comes to working with her daughter, Holmes says that she is happy to create the opportunity.

"I hope she always does something on my films," she gushes. "I always ask her. But both of those experiences came out of the same sense of what I love about our industry, which is, you have these projects and you become a family with people. And it's this safe, beautiful, creative space. So it comes out of love for me to include someone who I love dearly. That's how I like to work. I like to have that kind of feeling. It was very meaningful to me to have her there, because she's my heart."

And when it comes to one regret she has about raising her daughter, it has to do with fashion -- and not saving some of her iconic 90s' pieces for her.

"I think the ’90s style is exactly back. Makes me feel old," Holmes admits. "We lived through that already. My mom says she should have saved things. I should have saved things."

Suri Cruise was photographed celebrating her 18th birthday in New York City while her estranged father, Tom Cruise, worked abroad in London.

According to pictures obtained by Page Six, the birthday girl stepped out in the rainy weather with a friend on Thursday. The pals chatted as Suri held a pink umbrella over their heads.

The teen, who is also the daughter of Katie Holmes, wore jeans, a denim jacket over a brown shirt and black shoes. She carried a blue backpack and held what looked like a birthday gift in her hand.

A day before Suri’s big day, her father, Tom, was spotted overseas in London filming a new project.

The “Mission Impossible” star, 61, flashed a wide grin as he arrived at a helipad and piloted a jet.

Tom and his youngest daughter have not had a close relationship over the past years. In fact, a source exclusively told Page Six earlier this month that the movie star has not seen Suri since 2012 (they were last seen together at Disney World that summer).

“Katie has safeguarded Suri and she’s a devoted mom,” the insider told us. “This is a girl who is a private citizen. She hasn’t lived her life in public.”

Holmes, who filed for divorce from Tom when Suri was only 6 years old in June 2012, previously told Glamour that she wanted to keep her daughter out of the public eye “because she was so visible at a young age.”

The 45-year-old also revealed in November 2013 court docs that she filed for divorce from Tom “to protect Suri from Scientology ,” a religion that is often referred to as a cult.

While it is believed that Holmes signed several non-disclosure agreements to prevent her from speaking about her marriage to Tom and the Church of Scientology, Suri will be free to discuss the religion and her father now that she is legally an adult.

Though it’s unclear whether the teen will publicly speak about her father, she won’t be joining Scientology anytime soon.

“Suri is not a Scientologist and never will be … she deserves love and sympathy,” former Scientology spokesperson Mike Rinder told Page Six.

On Thursday, April 18, the daughter of Tom Cruise and his ex-wife Katie Holmes was spotted out and about with a friend in New York City as she enjoyed some fresh air on her special day.

In photos obtained by a news publication, Suri could be seen keeping herself dry with a pink umbrella while sporting a denim jacket, a brown shirt and black shoes.

The teenager seemed to be in great spirits as she carried a blue backpack while holding on to an apparent birthday present.

Just one day before Suri's birthday, Tom jetted across the pond to film a new project in London — though his absence likely didn't matter much, as the Top Gun star reportedly hasn't seen his daughter since 2012, the very same year his divorce from Katie was finalized.

The Mission: Impossible star was last spotted publicly with Suri at Disney World that summer.

"Katie has safeguarded Suri and she’s a devoted mom. This is a girl who is a private citizen. She hasn’t lived her life in public," an insider claimed to the news outlet earlier this month, seemingly insinuating the Dawnson's Creek actress could be partly to blame for Suri's lack of a relationship with her father.

The Batman Begins star filed for divorce from Tom when their daughter was only 6 years old and previously called the situation "intense."

"It was a lot of attention, and I had a little child on top of it. We had some funny moments out and about in public. So many people I didn't know became my friends and helped us out, and that's what I love about the city ," Katie — who relocated to NYC with Suri after ending her marriage — explained to InStyle in July 2022.

As for why the First Daughter actress tried shielding Suri from the world as much as she could, Katie told Glamour it was "because she was so visible at a young age."

Although it is believed Katie hardly provides insight on her former marriage to Tom and his involvement in the Church fo Scientology because of several non-disclosure agreements, Suri officially becoming an adult may give her free rein to discuss the religion and her father, if she pleases.
