Tenacious D Announce Summer 2023 U.S. Tour

Tenacious D have been more active on the road of late — the comedy rock duo of actor  Jack Black and his foil, Kyle Gass , have now added a group of U.S. shows to their summer 2023 "Spicy Meatball Tour."

The dates come on the heels of the recently re-recorded version of Tenacious D's fan-favorite live cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game." The  hilarious music video  features the D in a romp by the sea.

Tenacious D Drops ‘The Spicy Meatball Tour’ Dates 

The comedy-rock duo behind Tenacious D is heading out on tour this September.

Tenacious D, fronted by Jack Black and Kyle Glass, shared the news on Instagram in a nearly naked photo where both men donned acoustic guitars, noting “the spicy meatball is rolling into town.”

The Spicy Meatball Tour will make just seven stops, kicking-off on September 6 at Charlotte’s PNC Music Pavilion. From there, they’ll hit the Firstbank Amphitheatre in Tennessee, appear at Indianapolis’ All In Music Festival, the Walmart Amp in Arkansas, and Houston’s White Oak Music Hall. The limited run wraps-up with a gig at the Texas Trust CU Theatre, followed by the Germania Insurance Amphitheatre in Austin on September 15.

Previously, the duo toured in parts of the U.S. over the spring, followed by a European leg.

Since their inception in the late ’90s, Tenacious D has made some noise in the scene, releasing four studio albums and garnering attention with tracks like “The Metal,” “Tribute,” and “Wonderboy.” They last released Post-Apocalypto in 2018, followed by singles “Time Warp” and “Video Games.”

Comedy Rock Gods Ride Again: Tenacious D Plot Summer 2022 Tour

Tenacious D will ride once more, hitting the road for a run of West Coast shows next summer.

The rock-comedy duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass will kick off the trek June 16 with a previously announced set at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival in Telluride, Colorado. From there, the group will play shows in Utah, Oregon, and Washington before wrapping June 24 at the Cal Coast Credit Union Amphitheater in San Diego.  

Tickets for most shows will go on sale this Friday, Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. local time. Tickets for the Telluride Bluegrass Festival will go on sale Dec. 9 at 10 .m. MT, while on-sale dates for Tenacious D’s June 19 show in Portland, Oregon, and June 21 gig in Woodinville, Washington, will be announced later (venues for both gigs are still being determined as well). Tenacious D’s summer 2022 gigs come after the band celebrated the 20th anniversary of their self-titled debut album earlier this year. Back in September, the group marked the occasion by launching an advent calendar that featured an array of goodies, from rare behind-the-scenes footage to recreations of the album’s skits and interviews with the album’s producers, the Dust Brothers. They also reissued Tenacious D as a “Super Power party Pack” with old demos and other rarities.  

“It’s been rad to do a little doff of our cap to our first album,” Black told Rolling Stone at the time. “It was such a huge moment in our lives. So we knew we had to mark the occasion. It’d be weird not to. When you say, was it fun for us to do it? It’s not really for us. It’s for the fans. It’s only for the fans!”

Tenacious D Announce 2022 U.S. Tour Dates

Tenacious D have announced a handful of 2022 tour dates. Jack Black and Kyle Gass will play shows between June 16 and 22, and Puddles Pity Party is joining Tenacious D on tour. According to a press release, Tenacious D’s upcoming shows are 20th anniversary celebrations of the band’s 2001 self-titled debut. Find the duo’s schedule below.

Tenacious D have added a fall U.S. leg to their 2023 tour schedule. Jack Black and Kyle Gass will kick off the newly added Spicy Meatball Tour dates on September 15 in Austin, Texas. The group's last documented performance took place on June 7 in Berlin (see the setlist here ). They're currently on tour for the European leg of the Spicy Meatball Tour through 6/18.

Tenacious D have been active lately. Last month, the comedy hard-rock duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass dropped their first new original song since 2019, "Video Games," and just this last week they released an officially recorded version of their fan-favorite cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game." 

Now, they're plotting a fall tour. Following a few European festival appearances throughout June, as well as a gig at the Video Game Awards in Los Angeles on June 25th, Tenacious D will be venturing out on a short U.S. tour throughout the first half of September. 

The journey begins September 6th in Charlotte, North Carolina, and will travel throughout the South and Midwest before wrapping up September 15th in Austin, Texas.

Tenacious D have added a fall US leg to their 2023 tour itinerary. The comedic rock duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass will hit the road for a brief jaunt in September.

The band’s new “Spicy Meatball Tour” dates kick off September 6th in Charlotte, North Carolina, and continue through a September 15th gig in Austin, Texas.

An artist presale has already begun via Ticketmaster using the code SPICY , while a Live Nation pre-sale starts Thursday (June 7th) at 10 a.m. ET using the code DISCO . General tickets sales launch on Friday (June 9th).

Fans can also check for deals or pick up tickets to sold-out shows via StubHub , where your purchase is 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s Fan Protect program.

Tenacious D recently completed a spring US run, and are in the midst of a European/UK outing that wraps up June 18th with an appearance at France’s Hellfest. When they return to the States later this month, they’ll play the Video Game Awards at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on June 25th.

The new tour announcement comes as Tenacious D have recently blessed fans with new music. Last week, they released a cover of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game” (accompanied by an amusing music video depicting Black and Gass romping on a beach), and in May they unveiled the tune “Video Games,” the duo’s first original song in five years.

Black also went viral with his recent song  “Peaches” from The Super Mario Bros. Movie .

It's amazing how high energy and amazing those guys still are!

Full two hours of an amazing show!

Started with apocalypto video + songs and "ended" with almost hour and a half of the greatest hits.

This band is amazing, this venue is amazing, the night was perfect. I can wish for drinks to be cheaper, to not have to drop $40 to feel buzzed, but that's how concerts are... We got some merch before the show, the line kept moving. Nice that it wasn't as big a venue as last time I saw Tenacious D at CalJam. The opening act was ok, I get that their founding member is part of Tenacious D so they want to support him, but it really wasn't everyone's jam. I was surprised Tenacious D played almost the entirety of Apocalypto straight through. Then, of course, their greatest hits afterward. The projection storytelling was awesome.

Good news for Tenacious D fans unable to catch their comedy rock stylings this summer: The duo of Jack Black  and  Kyle Gass have added a 10-date fall leg to their 2022 US tour.

Expanding upon their seven-date run in June, the new string of shows kicks off on September 9th in Wilmington, North Carolina, and includes stops in Philadelphia, Milwaukee, and Minneapolis. It will wrap with an appearance at the just-announced Louder Than Life Festival on September 22nd.

Puddles Pity Party remains the opening act for the June dates, with DJ Douggpound taking over in the fall. See Tenacious D’s full itinerary below. Tickets for the new shows go on sale to the general public this Friday (March 11th) via Ticketmaster , with pre-sales happening now using the code: CLASSICS.

The tour serves as a belated 20th anniversary celebration of Tenacious D’s 2001 self-titled debut. Black and Gass caught up with Heavy Consequence at the time of the anniversary to discuss the album, their friendship and working relationship with Dave Grohl, the importance of Bob Odenkirk and David Cross to their career, and much more — as seen in the video interview segments below.

Tenacious D have recorded a 30-song cover album – and you’re never going to hear it

Tenacious D guitarist Kyle Gass has revealed that he and Jack Black have a 30-song cover album in their vault, but that they’re unlikely to ever release the collection to the public.

Gass, who co-founded The D with Black in 1994, explained in a new interview with Loudwire Nights that issues with copyright led to the project being scrapped.

“I was really pushing for a covers project,” said Gass, “and we started going crazy because we have so many ready.

“We went into the studio and just knocked off, no exaggeration, 30, but kind of short versions just to see how we liked them.”

However, he added, “We had some trouble getting the rights to one or two and then we got frustrated and said the hell with it. We’ll just do our own thing.”

It seems that snippets of this aborted LP have been heard, as The D released an abridged cover of Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game in 2023.

The band also put out a cover of Britney Spears’ …Baby One More Time earlier this year as part of the soundtrack to Kung Fu Panda 4 , which starred Black.

In more promising news, Gass also said that The D are hoping to release their long-awaited fifth album this year.

It will be their first full-length studio release since Post-Apocalypto in 2018.

“We have to finish the new record,” said Gass.

“We’ve been working on it, we have a very strict six-year cycle.”

He continued: “We gotta do it this year. We can feel the heat, but you know, it’s gotta percolate. We got to fit in between Jack’s very busy film schedule.

“But we’re going to do it. We’re going to get it. Publish or perish.”

Until then, Tenacious D plan to tour prolifically in 2024. Dates and tickets are available via the band’s website .
