Here Is The Walkmen’s ‘2023 Revenge Tour’ Setlist

Who knew that a surprise performance, after a 10-year hiatus, on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in April would turn into a full-fledged The Walkmen tour ? Well, the rockers indeed did. The Walkmen’s 2023 Revenge Tour kicked off Wednesday, September 13, at Lincoln Theatre in Washington, DC.

Unlike their past festival appearances , the 2023 Revenge Tour gives The Walkmen free creative reign to play their massive discography, almost unrestricted by time. So, what did the band settle on? View the setlist, according to Setlist.Fm , as well as the remaining tour dates, are posted below.

After The Walkmen played a few shows before their tour, Peter Matthew Bauer released a statement outlining his joy to reunite with his bandmates. “The last few weeks have been an absolute blast. Honestly, when we decided to get back together to play these shows, we had no idea if anyone would even show up. It’s been an incredible joy seeing all these people out there, playing these shows, getting to run into old friends from all over the world,” said Bauer.

Are the Walkmen finally back together, or did they never break up?

Members of the beloved early-'00s rock band talk about their first tour in a decade, and why they hit pause.

WESTERLY, R.I. — Let’s get one thing straight: The Walkmen never broke up.

You’d be forgiven if you thought they had. The New York-via-D. C. rockers — consisting of first cousins Hamilton Leithauser and Walter Martin and their childhood friends Paul Maroon, Peter Bauer and Matt Barrick — did stop playing shows and releasing new music in early 2014. But they’re adamant they never broke up. Would that even really be possible for a group of guys who played music together and apart in various iterations and various bands (Jonathan Fire*Eater, the Ignobles, the Recoys) since they were teens bumming around the original 9:30 Club in Washington?

So, no, they never broke up. But, in a 2013 interview with Express , The Washington Post’s now-shuttered commuter paper, Bauer said the band had “no future plans whatsoever. I’d call it a pretty extreme hiatus.” It led to a slew of headlines like AltWire’s “The Walkmen Pretty Much Just Broke Up.” “Slow Burn, Slow Fade: Inside The Walkmen’s Final Days” offered Stereogum.

“Pete spilled the beans to The Washington Post. I never thought we were breaking up,” says Leithauser. “It turned into one of those viral news stories.”

Whatever it was, it’s over. On April 18, the band roared back to life playing their hit song “The Rat” on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” its first public performance in almost a decade.

Now the Walkmen are touring the United States and abroad, but it’s not a reunion tour. Pick a different seven-letter word beginning with R. It’s called the Revenge Tour. Whom are they getting revenge on? Who knows. Maybe us, for printing Bauer’s words so long ago.

“We never meant to break up! I wish that story would catch fire,” says Leithauser. “It started in The Washington Post. Maybe it can end there.”

O n a chilly Friday morning a few days after the Colbert performance, the quaint, quiet streets of Westerly fill with the sudden, pummeling and potent sound of “The Rat,” thundering from the United Theatre a few blocks away. “The hell? …” says an old man walking up the steps of the YMCA building as he whips his head around.

“We’re loud,” Leithauser later says. “We’re still loud. We’re one of the loudest bands going.”

The Walkmen, whose members mostly trace their beginnings to their time spent as students at Washington’s elite St. Albans School (one went to Maret), formed in 2000, amid the New York rock revival that produced the Strokes, Interpol, the National, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Hold Steady and seemingly a thousand other guitar-and-drum-driven groups.

“They were the greatest band to come out of that new wave of rock-and-roll,” says the National’s Aaron Dessner, citing the Walkmen as the biggest influence on his band. “We were always the Midwestern, uncool, turtle version of the Walkmen, in a way.”

Their song titles (“Little House of Savages,” “Woe Is Me” and the aforementioned “The Rat,” which was named the 20th best song of the 2000s by Pitchfork) suggest a kind of music best listened to when 2 a.m. gets a little fuzzy and the edges begin to blur. Leithauser’s signature howl and Barrick’s insistent drumming often contrasted with Martin’s and Bauer’s warm organs and plinking pianos, while Maroon’s jangly guitars could attack and comfort in equal measure. They make earsplitting rockers alongside atmospheric dirges and follow their muse anywhere, such as re-creating, in full, Harry Nilsson and John Lennon’s “Pussy Cats.”

In 2012, they released “Heaven,” arguably their warmest album, filled with songs about finding, well, heaven in friends and family and bandmates. No throat-scorching fury here, just a collection of pretty songs to listen to by daylight.

They lived across the country at the time — New Orleans, New York, Philly — had wives and kids and were growing wary of life on the road. “When we were really doing it, we struggled. Always. From the beginning through the highest parts,” Martin says. “Just to keep it going. It’s five people. A lot of time five people living in New York City. A lot of time with families. It was hard, carrying our own stuff and being in the van.”

“Being in a band definitely does a lot of problematic stuff to your psychology. Makes you a mess in like 90 different ways,” Bauer adds. “I think that was one thing for us as adults. Like, why are these five guys driving around in a van? It’s f---ing weird.”

After releasing “Heaven,” they were finally out of fuel and ready for something new, hinted at by the first lines on the record: “I was the Duke of Earl, but it couldn’t last. I was the Pony Express, but I ran out of gas.”

“We just felt like we didn’t need to make another record at that point. We just reached a very logical place to stop,” says Maroon. “We were just exhausted. We were about to turn 40, all of us. We all had little kids, and we didn’t want to be touring so much.”

“We didn’t want the Walkmen to be our entire lives,” he adds.

Bauer started a management company and put out a few records. Barrick tried photography and video work for a while, but soon returned to music as a session drummer for artists like Fleet Foxes, Sharon Van Etten and Craig Finn. “Eventually I wanted to travel less and keep making music, so I decided to build my own studio in Philly,” he says.

Martin, who says he “doesn’t fancy myself a singer,” wanted to write music he could sing (perhaps in the vein of Randy Newman) and found a niche making children’s music. After the death of his friend and Jonathan Fire*Eater bandmate Stewart Lupton, he made contemplative adult music often infused with childlike wonder.

Maroon began writing scores, including the one for the Oscar-winning documentary “Heaven Is a Traffic Jam on the 405,” and classical music, first focusing on piano compositions with pianist Jenny Lin and moving on to string quartets. “It wasn’t satisfying to write rock-and-roll anymore. I wanted something I’d be comfortable doing when I’m 75 or 80,” he says. “I wanted something I could sit down and do on my own schedule until I drop dead.”

Leithauser, meanwhile, began scoring movies and podcasts but mostly continued down the rock-and-roll path — often with collaborator, fellow D.C. native and former Vampire Weekend member Rostam Batmanglij — though it wasn’t always an easy road, partially thanks to that whole “extreme hiatus” quote coming out right as he released his first solo album. “Then the whole breakup story became a bigger story than my solo record that I’d been working on for so long,” he says, adding that it overshadowed “everything I was doing for at least two years.”

All anyone asked him about was the band. During his first European tour, “people would say, ‘Oh you’re the guy from the Walkmen! I didn’t know your name, but then I heard your voice.’ I got that message over and over. Nobody knew my name, but they sort of knew the sound of my voice. It was a lot more like starting over than I ever thought it would be.”

Y ears piled up, and the band’s manager regularly floated the idea of a tour, but no one was particularly interested. “I don’t want to be negative, but no, I honestly didn’t really miss it,” Martin says of the band during those years, a sentiment every member echoed in one way or another.

But as time went on, a pull began forming, and a decade felt like a good time to revisit the band, or reunite, or doing whatever this is. About a year ago, Leithauser’s mom died. “The first time the five of us had ever been in the same room was at her funeral,” he says. “I had the guys come over afterward, and we were all sort of standing there. And then it was funny, we were like ‘Oh my God, it’s the Walkmen.’ We hadn’t even thought of it until it happened. It was just nice to see everybody.”

It sparked something. “Everything changes when something like that happens in your life,” he says. “I remember thinking, ‘I know that my mom would have been really psyched to hear the Walkmen.’ I sort of suggested it to my dad and sister and stuff, and they were like, ‘That’d be great! We’d love to see the Walkmen.’ And my little nieces and my daughters, they don’t even know what the Walkmen is, really. I was just thinking about my family and I thought it would be really fun for them to all see it. I think that’s what changed my attitude, to be honest.”

One by one, every member of the Walkmen — planted firmly in middle age, 40 in the rearview — agreed to a tour, though in typical Walkmen fashion, they never discussed it among themselves. “We have a text chain where we send dumb jokes to each other, and we continued to not talk about it,” Bauer says. “Eventually we had a Zoom meeting or something dumb like that.”

Which soon brought them to Westerly.

T hat late-morning surprise of “The Rat” ringing throughout Westerly like an air-raid siren was perhaps the band’s first-ever true rehearsal. Certainly the first in nearly 10 years. Which might strike you as odd, given that they played the song on national television only three days earlier, but that’s pretty much what you need to know about the band. They insist they never plan.

So, before the Colbert appearance, “We did not rehearse,” Bauer says. “We had dinner.” Backstage, they just went through their catalogue and named their worst songs. “I didn’t remember half of them,” says Barrick.

The performance went off without a hitch. “We walked right in there. And it was a little messy,” says Maroon. “But I feel like that’s who we are. It’s nice to see a mess every now and then.” Days later, they decided to rehearse. Why not? There’s a first time for everything.

It’s hard not to think it’s all a bit, but that lack of planning becomes obvious while I’m interviewing them. A couple of guys have a camera crew set up to film the interviews for a short documentary about the band (kind of but not really) reuniting. There’s a spotlight and a tripod and everything. It’s very “60 Minutes,” and leads to a version of this convo with the band members:

“Is The Washington Post filming this?”

“Uh, no … those are your guys.”

“Really?! I wonder what for!”

That lack of planning is partially the reason they chose to hold their first show in nearly a decade in this charming, quiet beach town with signs everywhere announcing the following weekend’s rubber-duck race. It’s where Taylor Swift bought that giant seaside house and wrote her umpteenth hit “The Last Great American Dynasty” about it .

Westerly offers a nice juxtaposition to the Walkmen in that it was actually planned, at least somewhat, by a wealth manager named Chuck Royce, the chairman of the board at Royce Funds, who has a passion for revitalizing small towns. “I very much believe a downtown is critical to the success of the entire town,” he says. Though investment, donations and leadership, he’s brought to Westerly restored hotels, independent bookstores, bespoke cocktail bars, high-end restaurants and an enormous education center.

At the heart of the revitalization is the United Theatre, the movie theater and events space where the band’s Revenge Tour begins. Attached to the venue is a cafe named the Café that serves dishes like plump baked oysters under a bed of crusty parmesan and breadcrumbs, well-balanced smash burgers and toastettes topped with chicken liver mousse and pink ribbons of pickled red onions. The kind of place where a Leithauser song pops on, moments after I’ve interviewed him in a corner booth.

T he band begins Saturday’s show with “They’re Winning,” the first track on their first album and closed the encore with “We’ve Been Had,” the first song they ever wrote, one of their more recognizable tunes. Onstage, Leithauser still banshee-screams like a wolverine is clawing its way out of his throat. Barrick’s drums still boom louder than the march of an encroaching army. Maroon’s guitars still batter the audience.

“It’s fun. We sound exactly the same,” says Maroon. “I didn’t know what to expect. Honestly, I thought it would be a little bit strange. But being back with the guys is just so comfortable.” The others agree. “It’s like a time capsule,” says Martin. “It’s like I suddenly have my pizza delivery job that I had when I was in college again.”

After Westerly, the band played five nights at Manhattan’s Webster Hall before heading south. Will there be new music? Maroon: “I think this is what it is.” Martin: “I think it’s ‘We’ll see.’ We don’t really plan, and we’ve never talked about doing new music.” Barrick: “There has been no talk of new music. … Who knows what will happen?” Leithauser sidesteps the question. Off-the-record? Bauer: “I don’t care about off-the-record at all. I think probably all four of them would say no, and I would keep it cagey.”

Let the record show that the Walkmen also know when to keep things quiet.

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Aerosmith announces rescheduled 2024-25 farewell tour dates. Get tickets

No need to “Dream On” much longer.

Aerosmith has finally announced the rescheduled dates of their ‘Peace Out’ farewell tour with special guests The Black Crowes and Teddy Swims on select dates.

The 40-concert jaunt will take the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers to arenas all over North America from September 2024 up until February 2025.

Notable shows include stops at Newark, NJ’s Prudential Center on Saturday, Dec. 28 and New York’s Madison Square Garden on Feb. 23, 2025.

Their last gig is scheduled for Feb. 26, 2025 at Buffalo’s KeyBank Center .

This upcoming trek will be the second attempt at rescheduling the tour; Steven Tyler sustained vocal cord damage at a Sept. 9, 2023 concert in Long Island — just three shows into their run — and the band had to postpone indefinitely.

“All previously purchased tickets will be honored for the rescheduled shows,” Aerosmith shared on Instagram .

If you haven’t gotten tickets yet and want to sing along to “Sweet Emotion,” “Walk This Way,” “Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” and so many more hits one last time, tickets can be scooped up for all ‘Peace Out’ concerts as soon as today.

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Friday, April 12, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before tickets are officially on sale.

The original Aerosmtih lineup won’t be fully intact on this run of concerts.

Yes, lead singer Steven Tyler, guitarist Joe Perry, bassist Tom Hamilton and rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford are slated to perform at all shows.

However, drummer Joey Kramer will be sitting this run of shows out to “focus his attention on his family and health” according to  AP News .

Kramer, 72, will be replaced by John Douglas who has drummed with the band since 2019.

On all dates except their opener when they’ll perform with Teddy Swims, Aerosmith will be joined by  The Black Crowes aka Rolling Stone’s “best new band of 1990.”

The band, known for mega hits “Hard To Handle” and “She Talks To Angels,” is also conducting a solo tour of their own this year including a show at New York’s Radio City Music Hall on April 27.

In 1973, the 25-year-old Tyler was given guardianship of 16-year-old Julia Holcomb so the two could live together.

After a tumultuous three-year relationship, the two broke up.

Nearly 50 years later, Holcomb — who now goes by Julia Misley — filed a lawsuit in December 2022. In the suit, she claimed Tyler sexually assaulted her, forced her to abort their child, and convinced her to drink and take drugs after he promised to serve as her guardian.

In the trial, Tyler alleged the relationship was consensual and had immunity because of his guardian status.

Legal experts have since said “caregiver immunity” does not exist if you sexually abuse the person you’ve taken in.

“The lawsuit came in the final days of California’s Child Victims Act, which temporarily lifted the statute of limitations for survivors of childhood sexual abuse to come forward with their allegations,” Consequence of Sound reported.

Jeanne Bellino, another minor that was sexually abused by Tyler in the 1970s, also filed a lawsuit against him; US District Judge Lewis Kaplan threw the case out this February because she “had waited too long to sue Tyler under a New York City law protecting victims of gender-motivated violence,” Reuters wrote.

“(Kaplan) said Bellino did not qualify for a two-year window to pursue claims that would otherwise extend beyond statutes of limitations, because she did not allege that Tyler’s conduct posed a “serious risk of physical injury.”

On Thursday night (April 11), the Barclays Center in New York City was electrified by the presence of Bad Bunny . The arena, filled to its 19,000-person capacity, buzzed with anticipation as the Puerto Rican superstar kicked off the first show of his three-night stint in the city.

“New York has been very important in my career, where dreams come true,” Benito told his fans in his native Spanish during the performance. “Being on the tour feels really amazing, going to each place and seeing it, all the cities, but New York, it’s something else. It feels more amazing than usual. Seeing all those PR and DR flags makes it even more special. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for being here, it means a lot to me.”

Bad Bunny — who wore Prada sunglasses, a velour suit, and a gold cross necklace — delivered a dynamic performance that was an amalgamation of music and spectacle. It included a grand orchestra, an equestrian entrance, a surprise appearance by Bryant Myers to perform “Seda,” a jigsaw-like stage that transformed into the Brooklyn Bridge, and, of course, a repertoire of his biggest hits. This was part of his Most Wanted Tour — in support of his Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana album — which kicked off on Feb. 21 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Live Nation-promoted tour is halfway through its schedule, with forthcoming performances in cities including Austin, Texas (Apr. 26-27), Atlanta, Ga. (May 14-15), and Miami, Fla. (May 24-26). According to Billboard Boxscore, the tour has already been a commercial success, grossing $84.2M and selling 282K tickets over its first 18 shows. It has consistently sold out venues, demonstrating Bad Bunny’s continued widespread appeal.

Here are five standout moments from the first night of Bad Bunny’s Most Wanted Tour at the Barclays Center:

The Grandeur of an Orchestra

Bad Bunny’s grand entrance was enhanced by the stirring symphonic sounds of a grand orchestra. Setting a triumphant tone reminiscent of a championship bout or a cinematic Rocky Balboa moment, the orchestra filled the arena with melodious harmony for 10 minutes as the show commenced at 9:30 p.m. Adding to the immersive experience, orchestra members made surprise appearances throughout the audience, accompanying Bad Bunny’s rhythms, particularly during the opening numbers, “Nadie Sabe” and “Monaco.”

An Equestrian Entrance

The concert’s midway moment was marked by Bad Bunny’s dramatic arrival on a horse , embodying a masked cowboy in a fuschia outfit with fringes. Despite previous criticism from PETA, the superstar displayed gentleness towards the horse, who was also accompanied by a trainer. As arguably the first reggaetón artist to incorporate a horse into his act, he joins the ranks of regional Mexican icons like Joan Sebastian, Vicente Fernández, and Pepe Aguilar, who uphold this tradition.

Playing 'Amorfoda' on a Piano Upside Down

Displaying his entertainment abilities in unconventional ways, Bad Bunny played the first keys of “Amorfoda” on the piano — notably, upside down atop the instrument — to the astonishment of the audience. He also delivered a soulful rendition of “un x100to” accompanied solely by the piano, marking a poignant moment in the two-and-a-half-hour concert.

Surprise Guest Performance by Bryant Myers

The concert was further enlivened by a surprise performance from Bryant Myers, who joined Bunny on stage to perform “Seda” from Bunny’s latest album, Nadie Sabe . Their collaboration stretches back to 2017 with the hit “Pa Ti.” Previously, Myers had also made a surprise appearance at BB’s Los Angeles show in March. Their joy in their longstanding musical partnership was evident in their performances.

A Jigsaw-Like Stage Morphing into the Brooklyn Bridge

The stage was a dynamic piece of artwork, constantly shifting forms throughout the concert. With two stages positioned at opposite ends of the arena, and a bridge-like catwalk in between, the stage at one point transformed into an impressive replica of the Brooklyn Bridge, made possible by intricate light work. This captivating visual element added a unique dimension to the concert experience.

Paul McCartney celebrated Jimmy Buffett during a tribute concert at the Hollywood Bowl last night, sharing memories of the musician and performing the Beatles ‘ “Let It Be” with the Eagles.

“I had the great pleasure of knowing Jimmy,” McCartney told the audience. “And like everyone else on the bill tonight has said, this is one great man. He was generous, he was funny, he’d done just about everything in his life.”

He added, “I was on holiday with him and I forgot to bring my guitar, so he had his own guitar strung left-handed for me. And then the next time I saw him he’d had one custom made left-handed for me.”

He explained that he sang several songs for Buffett during the last week of his life and wanted to perform one of them for the concert. McCartney, who was introduced by Dave Grohl , showcased the 1970 song at a grand piano while backed by the Eagles.

Elsewhere during the tribute concert, Coral Reefer Band, Brown, and Grohl teamed up for a cover of Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl,” while Sheryl Crow showcased “Fins.”

Buffett died on Sept. 1, 2023, at the age of 76. At the time, McCartney wrote , “He had a most amazing lust for life and a beautiful sense of humour. When we swapped tales about the past his were so exotic and lush and involved sailing trips and surfing and so many exciting stories that it was hard for me to keep up with him. Right up to the last minute his eyes still twinkled with a humour that said, ‘I love this world and I’m going to enjoy every minute of it’.  So many of us will miss Jimmy and his tremendous personality. His love for us all, and for mankind as a whole.”

Fujii Kaze: Tiny Desk Concert

In the corner of a busy office at the NHK Broadcasting Center in Shibuya, Tokyo, a staffer rearranged books, vinyl records and tchotchkes on a bright red shelving unit. The production crew double-checked equipment settings and made small adjustments to the lighting. Another worker added a few more posters to the tall white file cabinets. Cameras were set and microphones were ready because Fujii Kaze and his band had just rehearsed the night before. Everyone in the room — including a few of us from NPR that were there to help — was eager and excited because the very first performance for Tiny Desk Concerts JAPAN was about to start.

Popular around the world, the talented Fujii Kaze is a Japanese singer and pianist known for his sultry R&B grooves and catchy songwriting. His adventurous spirit was strong as he settled into the Tiny Desk way — a concert that's intimate, mostly acoustic and recorded without reverb, effects, in-ear monitors or wedges. During the rehearsal, the band quickly acclimated to the environment and adjusted instrument volumes to hear each other better. The end result was a beautiful 30-minute set, captured without pause and with no stops, restarts or retakes.

This video is part of the second international version of Tiny Desk, a joint venture between NPR and The Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) — the sole public media organization in Japan that is operated with the purpose of providing the latest news, education and culture both domestically and internationally. This new series will spotlight emerging and established Japanese artists with the same engaged performances, look and feel of the original Tiny Desk Concerts series.

Paul McCartney toasts Jimmy Buffett with margarita at tribute concert with all-star lineup

LOS ANGELES − In a night filled with wildly eclectic musicians honoring Jimmy Buffett at the Hollywood Bowl Thursday, Paul McCartney captured the range of the "Margaritaville" bard's impossibly wide web of global friendships and joy of living.

Entering the stage late in the "Keep The Party Going" tribute concert, McCartney, 81, spoke about being invited to Buffett's home a week before the party-loving singer/songwriter died of skin cancer in September at age 76.

"He was in a pretty bad way, but he still had a twinkle in his eye," said McCartney, who sat behind the piano to perform the song he had played for his dying friend − the classic ballad "Let It Be." In Thursday's performance, McCartney jammed along with the Eagles and Don Henley .

For the next and final song, McCartney joined music stars − as diverse as Sheryl Crow and Pitbull − for Buffett's signature "Margaritaville," with Sir Paul proudly hoisting a Las Vegas-sized margarita onstage.

"This is a man with a margarita right here," said Mac McAnally, the longtime guitarist from Buffett's Coral Reefer Band, who served as "musical captain" for the evening.

Here's who else kept the Buffett party going in the star-studded concert attended by fans including Al Pacino, Courteney Cox, Larry David and Sean Penn.

Honorary Coral Reefer Sheryl Crow and Brandi Carlile rocked

Crow said she was "an absolute nobody" when Buffett hired her in 1989 to join his Coral Reefer Band.

"I know Jimmy is laughing his ass off," the singer said before breaking into "Fins."

"I need to see some fins!" Crow said, instructing the crowd to put up their “land shark” fins during the song. There were fins on stage, fins to the left and fins to the right.

Carlile spoke of bonding with Buffett over their mutual love of fishing ("that was our language") before belting soulful versions of two classics, "Tin Cup Chalice" and "Come Monday."

Snoop Dogg blows smoke at 'My main man Jimmy B' with 'Doggystyle' classic

Stage presenter Judd Apatow thought it might have been the suspicious smoking going on backstage that was making him hallucinate what he had seen on stage.

"I swear to God I just saw Snoop Dogg sing 'Gin and Juice' with the Coral Reefer Band," Apatow said.

It's true. The rapper and Buffett friend Snoop Dogg performed the classic song from his 1993 "Doggystyle" album in tribute to "my main man Jimmy B," singing the familiar words with the audience in between onstage puffs.

"Last time I saw you we smoked like there was no tomorrow," Snoop Dogg said from the stage before clearing out, leaving a cloud of smoke.

During the wide-ranging musical section that followed, ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro wowed with a solo version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and rapper Pitbull performed his classic "Don't Stop the Party" with four backup dancers.

"He’s the definition of what it means to unite, not divide," Pitbull said of his friend before belting the song he wrote, "Thank God & Jimmy Buffett," along with Jon Bon Jovi.

"He gave me fashion advice and hair tips," Bon Jovi said. “We all think we’re rock stars, but he flew his own plane to his own show. That’s a rock star.”

Friends who were not able to make the concert paid tribute over video, including Dolly Parton, Alan Jackson, James Taylor and surfer Kelly Slater. NBA coaching legend Pat Riley laughingly recalled when Buffett was ejected from a Miami Heat game for calling a referee "a Parrothead."

Many friends spoke in person from the stage, including tennis legend John McEnroe, who talked about Buffett watching him play during his hotheaded prime.

"He told me, 'Relax, man,'" McEnroe said. "Of course he was right."

Harrison Ford spoke about "long boozy lunch" with Buffett and "60 Minutes" newsman Ed Bradley.

"I saw both of them had earrings, so right after lunch I got my ear pierced," Ford said. "That's how infectious Jimmy's coolness was. Enough for a then 40-year-old man to get his ear pierced spontaneously and infectious enough to create this world around his music. There's no other way to say it, there will never be another Jimmy."

Of course, the Jimmy Buffett tribute ended with 'Margaritaville'

Naturally, the night's final song brought the entire cast onstage to sing Buffett's national anthem of "Margaritaville."

"Jimmy Buffett would get a big kick out of this deal," McAnally said as the sprawling crew of musicians, friends and Hollywood stars took spots at various microphones. It was like a superstar karaoke, with Crow, Bon Jovi and Henley sharing the microphone for one of the signature "wasted away again in Margaritaville" verses.

By the end of the song, McCartney's margarita was nearly drained. But he was in no hurry to put down the glass as he walked offstage with a smile.
