How to get to Hua Hin

There are numerous ways to get to Hua Hin from Bangkok. The most common options are train, bus, or private car.

The train is a long yet scenic route, taking a minimum of four hours from Bangkok Railway Station. Tickets are priced according to carriage, with second-class starting at 400 baht and a third-class seat at only 44 baht.

The bus takes anywhere from three to five hours depending on the traffic, but is the cheapest option. Buses depart directly from Suvarnabhumi International Airport, making it incredibly convenient as well. If you’re already in downtown Bangkok, you can catch a bus from the Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai).

Lastly, a taxi or private transfer is an option to keep your journey as comfortable as possible and get you straight to your accommodation. Expect to pay anywhere between 3,000 and 5,000 baht, depending on the company.

What to expect in Hua Hin

Throughout Thailand, the currency used is Thai baht . The conversion rate often fluctuates slightly, but for reference, 1 USD is about 30 baht and 1 AUD is currently closer to 20 baht. Mrigadayavan Palace

As mentioned earlier, the Thai royal family embraced Hua Hin and had many summer vacation spots constructed in the area. 12 kilometres north of Hua Hin in Cha-am is Mrigadayavan Palace . This former holiday villa was once the residence of Rama VI, the country’s ruler from 1910 to 1925.

Two and a half hours south of Thailand's capital, Bangkok (and another world away), this small-town-turned-tourist hot spot is an exciting beach, dining, and shopping destination right on the Gulf of Thailand.

Before this small town of 60,000 people became a tourists' favorite, it was best known for being home to Klaikangwon Palace, the summer residence of one of Thailand's former kings back in the 1920s. Today, it's the perfect getaway to some of the country's best national parks and quietest beaches.

The clever design of the palace – which sits on pillars and is made up of several sections connected by long covered corridors – allows for perfect air circulation and keeps the place cool in the hot and humid Thai afternoons. There's even a corridor leading straight to the beach and the Queen's former bathing pavilion.

The King's living chambers are partially furnished with some of his original possessions. His study, where the king composed poetry when staying here, overlooks the ocean and houses his beloved desk and writing materials.

Night markets often have no rhyme or reason in Thailand, and Hua Hin's night market is no exception. Here, you'll find arts and crafts next to cheap snacks (don't be too shocked at the deep-fried insect snacks for sale) and stalls offering apparel.

Because Hua Hin's night market also attracts tourists, you'll find your share of stalls selling cheap souvenirs and beachwear, but also lots of street vendors selling authentic ware and fare for everyday life, Buddhist tokens, and traditional Thai crafts. Khao Takiab hill offers access to a quiet stretch of beach and impressive views over Hua Hin from up top. Some of the best seafood restaurants in town are located in this area, as well as some of the most colorful Buddhist temples you'll find in Hua Hin.

Khao Takiab temple, better known to locals as " Monkey Mountain ," is home to hundreds of wild macaques-a fun experience as long as you hang on to your bags and phone, since they have become quite good at stealing things from tourists.

An open-air weekend market that's all about arts and crafts , Cicada is popular with both Thai and foreign tourists and is particularly lively once the sun goes down. The market is divided into four sections that include decorative home items and fashion for sale, an art gallery, a massive outdoor food court, and an area dedicated to live music and shows featuring bands, dance groups, unique pantomime performances, and live DJs.

What makes Cicada different from other night markets is definitely its style. You won't find cheap plastic souvenirs here, but instead a lot of handmade items, original paintings and sculptures, contemporary art displays, and even artists working on glass blowing and live sketching. And while there's a lot of cool things you can take home and many chances for artsy retail therapy at Cicada, the focus doesn't fall heavily on shopping either because of the many opportunities to chill out and just enjoy the surroundings.

Thailand's first 4D Art Museum is a must-see for all ages. A quirky collection of fun murals painted by Thai artists, art installations, and sculptures, these are truly living images. Place yourself in the right spot, take a photo, and voila – you're automatically part of a 3D image where piano stairs come to life, you can jump into the mouth of a shark, and monsters almost get you in the Horror Zone. The 4D element is provided through music and sound effects that make each museum zone even more unique.

Just 15 minutes away in the neighboring town of Cha Am is Santorini Park, a themed shopping and attraction village that looks exactly like the name suggests. You might not get the sweeping views here of the ocean that you would at the real Santorini, but otherwise, Santorini Park does a very good job of bringing a picture-perfect Greek island to Hua Hin.

Rows of whitewashed buildings line up the stone-paved streets, winding around cafes, shops, and souvenir stores. There's even an outdoor performance space and a small amusement park here, complete with a Ferris wheel, a carousel, and a number of climbing and adrenaline rides for both kids and adults.

Thailand seems to have mastered the art of building themed shopping centers, where shops aren't the main attraction but instead just blend in with the incredible scenery. If visiting Santorini got you inspired and yearning for European lands, this place makes perfect sense as your next stop.

The Venezia is an impressive mini replica of magical Venice , complete with a reproduction of the San Marco's bell tower; a 200-meter-long canal (Gondolas included) that cuts through the shopping center; and plenty of attractions-including mini train rides; a 3D museum; and many photo opportunities around every corner.

While The Venezia is technically a shopping center, stores aren't the main attraction here. Still, you'll find plenty of local and international brands, as well as a chance to pick up some high-end local souvenirs.

The beach might be just a few steps away, but that doesn't mean visitors should skip a visit to Hua Hin's water park when in town. With nine slides (including an impressive 17-meter-high vertical slide tower with a heart-stopping straight double-drop) and six pools , Black Mountain has something for everybody.

Lounge around in the lazy river , try the giant pool especially dedicated to water games, or jump into the largest wave pool in Thailand-then have a bite or grab a beach chair for some relaxing time in the shade.

The largest national park in Thailand simply can't be explored in one day, so if that's all you have, you might want to start at Pala-U waterfall. Located near the border with Burma and about 1.5 hours from Hua Hin , the waterfall consists of 16 levels and is one of the highest in Thailand. Don't expect to climb it to the top, though. Anything beyond the third level requires an arduous trek meant only for expert hikers and climbers.

Still, you don't need to go beyond the third level to enjoy the magic here. Cool water, deep pools surrounded by a 1,000-year-old forest, and thousands of butterflies are just a little glimpse of what you'll find when you get to the falls. Keep your eyes open for lots of wildlife as well, including gibbons and rare birds.

Want to extend the trip? There are no accommodations available inside the park itself aside from two very rustic campgrounds, but you can overnight at Kaeng Krachan Town, just minutes away. Come back the next day for bird-watching and cave exploring – or hire a park ranger to take you deeper into the rainforest, where trails are trickier to find but wildlife is richer, and you might catch a glimpse of wild elephants, boars, and even leopards.

Twenty kilometers from Hua Hin and reachable by car or song-taew (an open, multi-passenger truck taxi), Pranburi Forest Park is home to the largest mangrove forest in Thailand . The highlight here is the two raised wooden boardwalks that twist and turn through thick mangrove growths, over the Pranburi River and all the way to the ocean-all along the way offering peeks of wildlife and even a small fishing village.

Once you're done walking the wooden trails, head to the park's pine-lined beach, just steps away. Because few tourists know about the park, chances are you'll have the beach all to yourself. This is a perfect day trip if you want to see some awe-inspiring scenery and escape the heat of town.

Location: Pak Nam Pran (Pranburi)

Thailand's largest freshwater marsh is located within Sam Roi National Park-a massive marine national park worth a visit on its own if you have the time to spare. The park is about 60 kilometers from Hua Hin and is home to massive caves, limestone islands, and over 300 different species of migratory birds.

If you can only visit one section of the park, however, the marsh-which is surrounded by limestone peaks and covered in lotuses-should be it. A wooden boardwalk extends across the marsh and leads to seven roofed pavilions that offer breaks from the heat and a chance to appreciate the mirror-like views in the distance. There's a great observation tower for bird-watchers at the entrance of the park, but you'll have a much better chance to see rare birds, such as purple swamphen and spoon-billed sandpipers, up close when walking through the marsh.

Hua Hin actually has two floating markets. The Hua Hin Floating Market , older and smaller, offers plenty of shopping opportunities, both as you travel around the market in a traditional boat or walk on the long wooden boardwalks that connect the shops. The newer Sam Pan Nam Floating Market offers plenty of shopping, too, with an impressive 200 shops, as well as plenty of boat vendors traveling the man-made lake and canals to offer their fare.

But Sam Pan Nam is also an entertainment venue. There's a miniature train, daily music and cultural shows, and plenty of "Instagram corners" – moored traditional fishing boats you can jump on for a picture, colorful benches, themed restaurants, and more.

If you've been to Plearn Wan, you'll find a similarity in the design: early 20th century-style buildings with traditional shophouses reminiscent of the King Rama VI period. While you can easily come here just for the fun merchandise and photo opportunities, the market also offers boat tours, mouthwatering treats, and a great way to discover what the old Hua Hin would have been like.

Located just a few miles from the energetic beaches is the quiet, tranquil oasis that is Hua Hin Artists Village, also known as Baan Sillapin. One of the original arts centers in Hua Hin, this vibrant collective sits shrouded in beautiful green plants, perched on the edge of a small canal.

The space includes several large galleries of art and antiques, as well as actual artists' studios, where projects are constantly being dreamt up and actualized. Classrooms are available for those who want to take painting and sculpture classes, and a beautiful art-decked café serves delicious coffees and pastries.

The community goes back more than two decades. The land was donated to a well-known local artist who was tasked with promoting art to the community. More than 20 other artists have joined the commune, and today showcase everything from painting and carving to masks, stonework, jewelry, and more.

Hua Hin is not short on shopping opportunities, but one of the newest to hit the beach town is the Bluport Hua Hin Resort Mall. The latest in luxury shopping, the massive mall is one of the best places to beat the heat in Hua Hin.

The mall has more than 1,000 different labels spanning fashion and beauty, as well as technology and dining. In fact, the Bluport Food Hall is a sprawling space serving cuisine from all over the world. You'll also find a Gourmet Market and standalone restaurants.

This is the department store in Hua Hin for fashion, as well as beauty treatments like haircuts, nail appointments, and a spa.

Hua Hin's food scene heats up on weekends with the addition of the new Tamarind Market. Right beside the popular Cicada Market, this night market opens on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays just a few blocks back from the beach.

Here, visitors will find more than a dozen stalls selling everything from local Thai dishes, like rich, fragrant Pad Thai, to wood-fired pizzas, sushi, Wagyu burgers, and more. A stage in the market plays host to a rotating calendar of live bands.

Prices here are certainly higher than at more resident-friendly night markets, but this is certainly an energetic and beloved place to grab a filling (and gourmet-level) meal, enjoy outdoor entertainment, and catch up with friends.

Luxury Hotels:

• V Villas Hua Hin, M Gallery Hotel Collection features luxurious villas with an Italian Villazzo design in a tropics style. All come with 24-hour butler service and large private pools. The property is right on the beach and is also family friendly. Amenities include a restaurant, spa, and workout room.
• Catering to families and couples alike, the Hyatt Regency Hua Hin is a 5-star resort right on a gorgeous stretch of white-sand beach. The property features lush landscaped gardens, multiple swimming pools, and a luxe spa. The hotel prides itself on being pet-friendly, so dogs and cats are welcome here. There is also a restaurant on-site.
• Anantara Hua Hin Resort boasts palatial architecture and luxe rooms and suites decorated in modern Thai style. The entire property is beautiful, with lotus-filled lagoons and manicured gardens facing the sea. There is a restaurant, swimming pool, tennis court, and a spa on-site.

Mid-Range Hotels:

• Anantasila Villa by the Sea is a top mid-range choice. The family-friendly hotel is right on the beach and offers a range of rooms and suites, including interconnecting options. Kid-focused amenities include a children's pool, mini golf course, babysitting services, and kids' meals at the restaurant. There is also a spa on-site.
• A trendy choice, Loligo Resort Hua Hin is also right on the beach. Rooms are spacious and comfortable with modern decor. The property is family-friendly and there are kid-focused activities on-site. Other amenities include a restaurant, workout room, and a complimentary breakfast.
• Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin has been serving tourists for more than 100 years now. The excellent value beachfront resort is set amid beautiful gardens. It offers spacious rooms and suites with period furnishings, polished wood floors, and high ceilings. There are also 42 villas that come with either a private hot tub or plunge pool.

Budget Hotels:

• My Way Hua Hin Music Hotel is a fun budget pick. It features music-themed design throughout its rooms and suites, including saxophone lamps and photos of Elvis and Michael Jackson. Some rooms even have pianos. Amenities include a swimming pool, coffee shop, and game room.
• The well-priced ibis Hua Hin is just a short walk from the beach. The rooms are tidy and modern. The hotel is family friendly. Kids stay free and there is a children's pool. The ibis is also pet friendly if you're traveling with a dog. Other amenities include a restaurant, free parking, and bike rental.

Where is Hua Hin

You’ll find Hua Hin located 199km south-southwest of Bangkok in the northern part of Thailand’s Malay Peninsula. It became the country’s first and most popular beach resort town after the Thai Royal Family built summer palaces there. Its close proximity to Bangkok makes it the perfect addition to any Thailand itinerary, especially for those keen to experience the seaside without having to catch a flight. The map below shows Hua Hin’s location in relation to Bangkok and Phuket.

How to get to Hua Hin

To get to Thailand we flew from Brisbane  to  Bangkok  direct with  Thai Airways , arriving at  Suvarnabhumi Airport . We spent five nights exploring Bangkok and Hua Hin before returning to Bangkok to catch a domestic flight from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Phuket International Airport for a few more days in the sunshine.

We had a fantastic experience with Thai Airways, especially as we had the opportunity to enjoy their Royal Silk Class (Business Class) from Brisbane to Bangkok. Our seats were incredibly comfortable, offering us loads of legroom to scooch down and get comfortable while watching movies and tv shows on our tv screens. The service was wonderful, with the staff members on board being attentive and thorough, taking excellent care of us the whole way. We’ve flown with Thai Airways on most of our visits to Thailand  and, I have to say, the airline always offers consistently great customer service, delicious food on-board and great entertainment. If you’re planning a visit and aren’t sure which airline to go with, we happily recommend Thai Airways.

To get from Bangkok to Hua Hin should take around 2 1/2 to 3 hours drive. Our private transfer was arranged for us by our incredible tour guide, Nam, from Absolutely Fantastic Holidays . Having our own guide took the stress out of managing our itinerary and allowed us to be present and enjoy each moment more. If a tour guide isn’t the right fit for you, you can definitely organise your own transfer to Hua Hin either via your hotel concierge or by finding a transfer service through a search engine.

Must-know tips for visiting Thailand

Planning a trip to Thailand? Here are some things you need to know before you go:

• It gets extremely hot and humid in Thailand so be sure to wear sunscreen , avoid being active and outdoors during the hottest parts of the day, wear a hat and drink plenty of water. I always carry an umbrella with me to shade me from the harsh sun when sightseeing. It looks dorky but it saves me from heatstroke and sunburn.
• Always have a little spare change and tissues on you as you may need to pay to use the toilet in some spots and toilet paper isn’t always guaranteed.
• If you’re planning on visiting temples, you’ll need to pack temple appropriate outfits that cover the midriff, shoulders and knees.
• The local currency in Thailand is the Thai Baht . Downloading a free currency conversion app that works offline, like XE Currency , will come in very useful!
• If you don’t speak Thai, don’t worry! English is widely spoken in Thailand, especially by those likely to come into contact with tourists. But brushing up on a few Thai phrases will go a long way with the locals!

• For those planning on visiting markets, be sure to brush up on your haggling skills as you’ll need to negotiate for the best prices.
• We love to encourage travellers to cut down on single-use plastic by refilling a water bottle when they travel. Unfortunately, this is a little hard in Thailand as you aren’t able to drink the tap water. That said, you can buy the biggest bottle water possible at each time and say no to those tiny bottles handed out at hotels or on planes.
• Be sure to educate yourself on animal tourism experiences and how to spot the good from the bad! You should read this.
• It’s important to show respect for the Thai Royal Family, especially His Majesty, The King.
• Street food is amazing so be sure to dive right into Thailand’s epic food scene, tastebuds first!
• Thai people are absolutely lovely! It’s a destination that lives up to its reference as, ‘The Land of Smiles.’ Be sure to treat everyone you meet with the same humility, kindness and respect.

The best time to visit Thailand

There are three main seasons in Thailand; hot, rainy and cool. You’ll find the hot season from March to June. The rainy season is from July to October and the cool season is between November and February. Your best bet is to plan your trip in the cool season if you can, but we’ve visited at all different times of the year and always had a fantastic time.

Here’s a look at where we stayed on our trip to Hua Hin…

Cape Nidhra Hotel 

Cape Nidhra Hotel offers luxury, beachfront accommodation and stellar customer service, perfect for your Hua Hin holiday. The hotel is located right in the heart of Hua Hin, making it an excellent base-point. You’ll find an abundance of restaurants and stores on the main street, out the front of the hotel, as well as within close walking distance. Importantly, the resort backs onto the beach so you don’t have to wander far from your room in either direction to find what you need.

The beach is absolutely gorgeous, offering sparkling clear water that fades into a brilliant shade of blue. It’s a popular spot for windsurfers and beachgoers as well as the perfect place to take a morning or afternoon stroll along the water’s edge. The hotel also offers a beachside pool with plenty of great seating options including shaded pergolas and sun loungers with umbrellas. What I love about the pool at Cape Nidhra is you can still see the beach, so you get to enjoy the privacy of the hotel pool and it’s poolside dining and cocktails while still soaking in the views of the beach. Rather than feeling like you could be anywhere in the world, you get to enjoy the beauty of Thailand.

We stayed in a Sky Pool Suite and loved every moment of our stay! At a generous 80 sqm, we found our suite to be incredibly spacious, with loads of room for us to spread out and get comfortable. Our suite featured a private pool and wooden deck, so we could hop in for a dip and make the most of room service too. The bathroom was absolutely huge, equipped with a generous bathtub, separate shower, toilet and double basins. The bed was also huge, larger than a standard King, I believe. We loved having a doona/blanket each so we didn’t have to worry about stealing the blankets!

In addition to all of this, Cape Nidhra also features an onsite spa where Matt and I indulged in a fantastic one-hour massage that sent us both to nirvana. You’ll also love the on-site gym which is really well-equipped with everything you need to get a good sweat going. There’s also a steam room and sauna, gift shop, awesome business centre and the on-site restaurant is fantastic too. We really enjoyed the buffet breakfast, complete with a traditional market-style fruit stall and fantastic coffee as well.

Most importantly, we found the staff at Cape Nidhra to be attentive, helpful and kind, going the extra mile to greet us with warm smiles and make us feel welcome and at ease. Particularly, one member of the ground staff would always greet us with the BIGGEST, happiest smile and a wave hello which just made our day, every single time we saw him. It’s little things like that, that make a good stay GREAT and make you want to come back time and time again.

Best things to do in Hua Hin

Planning your itinerary? Here are our tips on the best things to do in Hua Hin:

• Be sure to check out the Hua Hin Night Market , which comes alive in the centre of town from 6:30pm onwards. There’s no shortage of great food to try (including some truly heavenly mango sticky rice) and plenty of clothes, bags, shoes, jewellery, gifts and quirky items to peruse too.
• Windsurfing is incredibly popular in Hua Hin so, if you’ve ever thought of giving it a go, this is the spot to do it! Just be sure to leave a full day to the safety briefing and lesson. Matt had really wanted to do it but only had a few hours to spare, which wasn’t enough time.
• Take a wander through the streets of Hua Hin on a street art crawl. You’ll find vibrant artworks adorning walls of all shapes and sizes, reflecting different aspects of Thai culture and life as well as paying tribute to the beloved late King.

• 1d + Day Artist is a super cool, beachfront bar and restaurant that offers a gorgeous spot to sit and rest awhile in the warm Thai sunshine. It’s a popular spot among Instagrammers so be sure to pack your camera and work on your poses!
• For amazing views and an authentic Thai experience, head to Wat Khao Takiab , a gorgeous temple located up a steep set of stairs. Here, you’ll be treated to incredible views over the area. Just beware of the monkey’s!
• Another great temple worth visiting is Wat Huay Mongkol , famous for the enormous (it really is huge!) statue of Luang Phor Thuad, one of Thailand’s most beloved monks.
• Visit the Hua Hin Railway Station, a very charming and unique spot which blends traditional Thai architecture with Victorian. It’s a great spot for photo’s and you can glimpse the special building where the Thai Royal Family would wait for the train.
• On our way to Hua Hin, from Bangkok, we got the chance to stop at the Maeklong ‘Risky’ Railway Train Market . You’ll most likely recognise this famous spot as soon as you see the photo (above right). We also got to visit the Khao Luang Cave , another really beautiful spot worth stopping to see if you have the time.

What to pack for a trip to Hua Hin

As you pack for your trip to Hua Hin, I want you to repeat this phrase to yourself: “I  will  pack light.” That’s what’s wonderful about Thailand, you don’t have to pack everything you own! We found the weather to be deliciously warm during our visit which meant we dressed in very light clothing.

I mostly wore summer dresses or my swimsuit with a wrap over the top. Matt mostly wore shorts and a sweat-wicking t-shirt or his boardshorts. For footwear, I alternated between my sneakers and sandals while Matt mostly wore sneakers or slide-on sandals. Hua Hin is one of the most famous beach destinations among Thais thanks to its proximity to Bangkok. On weekdays, with no traffic, Hua Hin can be reached from Thailand’s capital in about two and a half hours . This means that many Bangkokians take weekend or multi-day weekend trips to Hua Hin and some even have their second home there. Hua Hin has also suffered a great construction boom in recent decades, but more controlled than in Pattaya. Unlike Pattaya and sex tourism, Hua Hin is reputed to be a more family-friendly and friendly destination , also thanks to its relationship with the Thai monarchy; Since several kings have frequented this beach city on a regular basis, the previous king Rama IX spent several years residing there. Also many expats, especially western retirees, have made Hua Hin their home.

Sam Rot Yod National Park , south of Hua Hin, is a phenomenal day trip from Hua Hin if you have your own vehicle . If not, another option is to easily rent a motorcycle or car in the city and drive to the park. One of its great attractions is the Phraya Nakhon cave with its small temple inside illuminated by a large opening in the ceiling of the cave. To get to the cave you must get to Laem Sala beach beach beforehand, either by boat or on foot for about 30 minutes from the nearest parking lot. You will have to pay 200 THB to access. Once on the beach you will have to walk again for 30 or 45 minutes until you reach the cave. It is all uphill, so bring enough water, but the effort is worth it.

Pa La-U Waterfall

Free Elephants at Kui Buri

One hour and a half by car from Hua Hin you will find the small Kui Buri National Parl, one of the few places in Thailand where you can see wild and free elephants . There you will find a project developed by the Kuiburi Wildlife Ecotourism Club in which local farmers act as drivers and guides for 2-3 hours to enter a restricted area of the park where elephants and other animals live freely. 🏨 Where to stay in Hua Hin

If you are looking for cheap accommodation, it will not be difficult to find it in the red light district of Hua Hin, near the beach and the Hilton Hotel. The cheapest rooms usually cost between THB 300-500 (€ 7.5-12.5).  If you want luxury in front of the beach, take a look at the Hilton or the Centara.

These are some of the most popular and beautifull beaches in hua hin, 1️⃣ hua hin main beach.

Hua Hin Beach changes quite a bit during the year. From the end of November to the end of March is the ideal season to enjoy it, since there is a pleasant wind and the sea usually offers a more bluish and more beautiful color. As a disadvantage, at this time the tide is usually higher and sometimes there is little sand in the morning. From April to October the color of the sea is grayer but the tide is usually lower and there are fewer people. In April, it is also very hot and few people go to the beach in the sunniest hours.

2️⃣ Suan Son Pradipat and Koh Tao Beach

It is the beach just after Hua Hin. It is a 6 km pine beach that is owned by the Thai army, but is open to the public. The army has a few resorts, but the beach is largely unspoiled. Locals take advantage of it, above all, in the afternoons for a picnic. It is also an ideal place to run. In the north (military) area of the beach there is a large parking area with a restaurant, a nice cafeteria and a small massage center. Khao Tao beach is actually the same as the previous one, Suan Son Pradipat, but it is its southern part. The only thing that since she does not belong to the military, they call her by a different name. In it, you will find some resorts and a restaurant facing the sea: Gusto Et Cozy. The resorts in this area are very quiet and have direct access to the sand, such as The Blue Sky Resort.

3️⃣ Pranburi Beach

Pranburi is about 26 km south of Hua Hin. In the Pranburi area we first come across Paknam Pran beach, which is smaller and quieter. Then we have the main beach of Pranburi, which is very long, about 8 kms. There is a hotel offer on both beaches, although quite limited. In general, it is a very quiet area and kitesurfing when the wind allows it.

4️⃣ Thao Ko Sa Forest Park Beach

The Thao Ko Sa Forest park is an area where you will find a small mangrove forest in which they have built a path with wooden boards. It can be covered in about twenty minutes and is a pleasant walk through the forest. In addition, in the same area you will find a very quiet beach area with some ideal tables for a picnic under the shade of a tree. There is also a cafeteria in the park itself.

5️⃣ Sam Rot Yod Beach

It is a fairly long beach where we have many resorts that are well priced and quiet. It is a good destination for those who want to disconnect and are simply looking for a small hotel in front of the sea (although a narrow road separates the hotels from the sand). One recommended to go with the family is the Dolphins Bay.

6️⃣ Laem Sala Beach

Probably the best beach in the area. It is a virgin beach with white sand and palm trees in the Sam Rot Yod National Park, which can only be accessed by walking along a mountain path of 30-40 minutes or by boat. On the beach near Hua Hin there are bungalows, shops and a national park restaurant. From this beach you can go up to the incredible Phraya Nakhon cave, to access it you have to pay 200 THB for adults and 100 THB for children.

• Taxi/Private Car: If you're not on a tight budget and want to fully relax on your journey, consider hiring a taxi or a private car with a driver. Depending on the company, prices can range from 2000 to 3000 baht.

Phuket —> Hua Hin There aren’t many options for hopping on a bus and heading directly to Hua Hin from the island. You'd need to take a flight or bus to Bangkok, then transfer to a bus, minivan, or opt for a taxi or private car heading to Hua Hin. The price for this will vary depending on the airline you choose and your preferred mode of ground transportation. 

Chiang Mai —> Hua Hin

• Flight + Car: Take a flight straight to Bangkok, then choose between a taxi, minivan, or private car.
• Train: While there isn't a direct train from Chiang Mai to Hua Hin, you can take a train to Bangkok first and then change trains or transportation modes. This option is ideal for those with plenty of time on their hands, as the journey will take around 10-12 hours.

Discover Hua Hin: Your Guide To A Thai Seaside Sojourn

A trip to Hua Hin is incomplete without sampling its seafood, soaking in the sunsets, and relaxing in your resort villa. (Image from Mövenpick Asara Resort & Spa Hua Hin .)

When I first visited Thailand many years ago (more than I care to remember), an experienced traveller to the kingdom suggested Hua Hin as an idyllic seaside resort far from the cares of the world.

After doing my due diligence on the destination, I gathered that Hua Hin was the Thai people’s ‘little secret’, kept as an exclusive holiday domain for the locals. Popular seaside destinations such as Pattaya and Phuket were for tourists, but Hua Hin was for Thais.

Now, Hua Hin is still very much a destination for local Thais, especially those from Bangkok. However, this is changing as more foreigners discover the charm of this historic seaside retreat.

Being just a three-hour drive south of Bangkok and without an airport catering to large aircraft means that Hua Hin isn’t as accessible as other Thai beachside destinations. Although visitors need to use land transport to travel to Hua Hin, once there, it’s a most agreeable destination with some excellent resorts, delicious Thai food – especially seafood, and a relaxed lifestyle that many will love.

Humble beginnings of a fishing village

Hua Hin has been a fishing village for centuries, and even today, the numerous flickering green lights at sea each evening indicate that fishing is still an important industry for many locals. However, these days, tourism forms the backbone of the economy.

Hua Hin was developed during an era of rapid regional rail expansion . The then-king was a rail enthusiast whose interest had been ignited after being given a rail set by Queen Victoria. Siam’s first significant railway headed south from Bangkok, down the eastern side of the Gulf of Thailand.

It first reached the coast of Hua Hin in 1922. The quiet fishing village and its beaches soon became popular with tourists who travelled there by train. Visionary railway administrators quickly appreciated the importance of Hua Hin as a holiday destination and constructed the aptly named Railway Hotel, immediately adjacent to the golden sands lining the Gulf of Thailand.

Historic seaside retreat

Thailand’s high society seized the opportunity to take a seaside holiday after the king established a royal residence just north of the town centre. As the king held court during the summer, those seeking favour had no choice but to travel there by train and stay in the Railway Hotel. This well-heeled clientele demanded the best, and the hotel delivered.

Since then, the hotel has developed a Raffles-like reputation for offering gracious hospitality in its beachside setting. The hotel has had a few make-overs and extensions over the years, but several sections remain very much as they have for the past century. These additions and renovations have preserved the hotel’s architectural integrity and the grounds, with their botanical topiary, encouraging guests to take a turn around the gardens.

Now operating as the Centara Grand Beach Resort and Villas Hua Hin, the hotel stands as the grand heritage property in the resort town. Guests can settle into a traditional English afternoon tea in the Museum Café and imagine just what it would have been like when the hotel first opened.

Budding resort town

Development followed the arrival of the railway as the line continued further south towards the Siam-Malaya border. Eventually, travellers could take a break in Hua Hin between their travels on an epic rail journey all the way from Singapore to Bangkok.

While the changes within the resort have been gradual and sympathetic to the original architecture, the same can’t be said for Hua Hin itself. Thailand’s ‘little secret’ is no more, as international hotel chains clamber for beachfront presence. However, all is not lost, as Hua Hin still retains much of its charm.

Horse rides were, and are still popular along the soft sand, with numerous handlers on hand to guide guests across the sands. This is indeed a rare sight in Asia and an iconic image of this holiday destination.

Resort time: Rest & relaxation

My accommodation in Hua Hin was the Mövenpick Asara Resort & Spa Hua Hin, a boutique property of 54 pool villas and 42 suites. It is located along the coast, just north of the town, and within lush gardens.

Mövenpick combines the Swiss efficiency of the brand’s heritage with caring Thai hospitality. All villas and suites are located in either beautiful gardens or overlooking serene lily-lined ponds. Its rooms are beautifully appointed to create an oasis of tranquil privacy.

My private pool villa was very spacious and enclosed within high walls and sheltering plants to ensure complete privacy. The villa featured a large turquoise-tiled pool, loungers, and an outdoor dining setting. Inside, the bedroom was separate from the living area, and the bathroom, featuring a stand-alone tub, was very spacious.

There are two resort pools, with the one at the rear of the resort, the less-used and thus the quietest. Asara Spa has six treatment rooms, with Yin Yang Chakra Therapy being one of its signature treatments. The adjoining compact gym is accessible around the clock, while children are cared for in the Little Birds Club.

Chocolate Hour is a signature Mövenpick activity, and the Hua Hin interpretation served in the afternoon in Kampu Restaurant included a chocolate fountain, beverages, cakes, and desserts.

Let’s Sea Hua Hin Al Fresco Resort is a boutique adult-only resort that lies to the south of the town centre near the Hyatt. Its restaurant here had been recommended to me, and before dinner, I looked around the suites lining a long pool and was most impressed.

Hua Hin’s seafood scene

While it’s possible to enjoy a latté to-go at Starbucks or a value meal at Burger King, Thai food such as the delicious gai yang and other delicacies are on offer too, especially in the evening open-air market in the centre of the town.

The popular Hua Hin Night Market is not the only market in town. The Cicada Market, just 7 kilometres south of the town, is within walking distance of the Let’s Sea Resort. Immediately adjacent to the Cicada Market is the Tamarind Market, so weekend visitors are spoilt for choice. The former is more for upmarket arts, crafts, and fashion, while the Tamarind Market is more food-oriented.

Baan Dum Oceanfront Seafood Restaurant, located beside the sea and the Mövenpick property, offers a relaxing seafront setting. I enjoyed several delicious dishes including prawns, fish, and tom yam .

Seaside tipple and dining

A very pleasant surprise was Let’s Sea Restaurant and the adjoining Beach Bar and Terrace. If you are not staying here, plan to drop by as the sun sets for the low-light romantic ambience; you won’t witness the sunset here as the terrace faces eastward. Choose a lounge on the decorative terrace or in the gardens and enjoy a pre-dinner beverage. The food and wines are taken very seriously here, with some contemporary Western, Thai, and Thai fusion dishes from which to choose. The wine list is superb; try the Austrian Grüner Veltliner to discover how this variety is the perfect pairing for many Thai dishes.

The recently opened Vana Nava Sky rooftop bar, at the Holiday Inn Resort Vana Nava to the south of the town centre, is an atmospheric bar that offers the best window on the Hua Hin landscape. Visit for more than the views as the cocktails and food are superb. Plan to visit just after it opens at 5pm to take in the sunset. There is a good selection of cocktails and wines, and the food is taken seriously with dishes such as Linguini Seafood, Wagyu Skewers, and Hokkaido Scallops.

For those who are prepared to travel a few extra kilometres to reach the resort town, Hua Hin is a delightful seaside resort destination with a comprehensive range of accommodation options and resort activities that make it perfect for relaxation.

Hua Hin travel tips

Getting there: AirAsia flies to Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport, and from here, land travel to Hua Hin can be arranged. The railway from Bangkok southward through Hua Hin is being progressively double-tracked and upgraded, and in the not-too-distant future, improved rail connections will be available. The current rail services are slow and not convenient for most visitors. Where to stay: Mövenpick Asara Resort & Spa Hua Hin or Let’s Sea Resort. When to visit: Thais visit year-round, but take note that the low season, in the middle of the year, coincides with the monsoon season.

The Hua Hin climate is divided into 2 distinct seasons, the rainy season lasts from November to April, the dry season from May to October. So, you should come here in the dry season. The weather in the dry season is less rainy, the sea is calm, you can go to the sea to participate in water activities conveniently such as swimming, scuba diving or boating to explore the surrounding nature as well as basking in the sun.

How much money do you need to bring to Hua Hin for 3 days 2 nights? (#hua hin itinerary 3 days)

In Thailand, the circulation money is Baht, it is recommended that you should exchange to Baht in Vietnam before going to Thailand at reputable money exchangers. From Vietnam, there is no direct flight to Hua Hin, Thailand, so to travel to Hua Hin itinerary for 3 days 2 nights as suggested below, you have to fly to Bangkok first then getting to Hua Hin later. According to our Hua Hin travel experience, we chose to take a flight of Vietjet Air to fly to Bangkok and then rent a private car round-trip from the airport in Bangkok to Hua Hin and vice versa at a cost of $65.67/person. Where is the cheapest place to stay for 3 days in Hua Hin? (#hua hin thailand itinerary)

If your purpose trip is mainly for experiences, you should choose to stay at a homestay or a 2-star, 3-star hotels, instead of a luxury hotel. One thing we learned is that our stay at the hotel is often very short, only about 7 hours a day, so we just need a comfortable place to sleep. Hostels in Hua Hin are many, extremely affordable. We booked a room at the 2-star Victor Guesthouse ( Agoda , Booking ), a 5-minute walk from Hua Hin beach, with a private swimming pool in the guesthouse, clean and comfortable rooms.

Hua Hin is famous for many 5 star hotels and very beautiful resorts. Hotels and restaurants in Hua Hin are more concentrated in the Soi 55 and Soi 69 areas. In addition there are many guesthouses with dorm rooms for over $10 per bed, two star Hua Hin hotels with prices from $20 / night.

Detailed Hua Hin itinerary 3 days 2 nights (#3 days in hua hin)

Day 1: sam phan nam floating market – black mountain water park (#hua hin itinerary).

Starting our Hua Hin 3 days 2 nights itinerary, we departed from Bangkok to arrive at Hua Hin from 6am after taking a flight to Suvarnabhumi airport. Traveling by private car that we rented before, it only takes us about 3 hours to go to Victor Guesthouse to check-in and go to the room to unpack, arrange our belongings and rest for about 30 minutes before going to explore this beautiful land.

The first day we took a tuk-tuk to Sam Phan Nam floating market, here you will be overwhelmed by the bustling bustle of buyers and sellers in the market. In this market, the price of items, especially fruits, is only from $2 to $5. We bought some delicious fresh fruit to eat on the way back to the guesthouse.

We chose to have a meal at the guesthouse with traditional Thai dishes such as Pad Thai and spicy hot pot, advice for believers who can’t eat spicy foods is that you should tell the waiter to inform the chef cooks not too spicy in advance, otherwise Thai dishes always have a lot of chili. After lunch we had a break at the guesthouse.

At exactly 1:30pm, we rented a taxi to the Black Mountain Hua Hin water park. This is one of the famous water parks across Thailand. It has 9 fun water slides to play with and six different zones. From a wave pool that produces the highest waves in Thailand, to a 17-meter tower for slides with spiral slides, this water park is for all ages. Admission for adults was around $18.72/ticket, for children was $9.36/ticket (from 110cm to 140cm).

After have fun at Black Mountain Hua Hin water park. We went back to the guesthouse to change clothes and shower and then hanging out at Hua Hin night market, the market is open from 5pm to 1pm. The night market in Hua Hin is not as large as in Bangkok but it is still full of stalls from the food area, clothing and souvenir area, stage area for local singers to perform on weekends, and below is the common dining area for visitors.

We enjoyed a lot of street food from seafood to unique local cakes such as grilled seafood, grilled fish with salt, grilled meat with vegetables, mango sticky rice, fried banana, Sang Kaya Fug Tong. Prices for these foods range from $1 to $5. We also bought one or two beautiful brocade clothes made by the locals here to give as gifts. The price of the shirt I bought was around $10 depending on your bargain ability, you can buy it at a cheaper price.

Day 2: Swim at Hua Hin beach and visit Pala-U Waterfall

After a long day of fun until 1pm, our Hua Hin itinerary 3 days 2 nights starts at 8am, we change clothes and walk for about 5 minutes to go to Hua Hin beach to swim. Some people in our group also participate in scuba diving which was quite interesting. In addition to the same activities as us did, you can also take a scenic walk at the beach with whispering waves, long white sand, and clear blue water. The wonderful scenery here will definitely make you feel that it is not a regret when traveling to Hua Hin!

Had lunch at the guesthouse.

We rented a tuk tuk to go to Pala – U Waterfall (Address: GFQ7+6CV, Huai Sat Yai, Hua Hin District, Prachuap Khiri Khan 77110, Thailand). This is a famous natural waterfall in Hua Hin with clear water, a pond full of fish. We followed the trail into the forest behind the waterfall. Hire a local to take you into the forest to explore the beautiful nature here, we encountered a lot of monkeys here. It will cost about $5 to hire someone to guide you through the jungle. According to my Hua Hin travel guide, you should wear forest shoes to avoid slipping and should apply insect repellent.

Join the camping organized by the guesthouse with a seafood buffet party at Hua Hin beach. Each buffer was around $10 per person.

Day 3: Explore Swiss Sheep Farm in Hua Hin and return to Bangkok

Continuing our Hua Hin itinerary 3 days 2 nights, on the third day we depart from the guesthouse at 7am, we go by private car rental from Bangkok to the Swiss sheep farm, the distance is about 32 km and it takes about 35 minutes for us to reach. Walk through a truly rural farm inspired by Switzerland’s picturesque farmlands and discover European architecture right here in Hua Hin. We bought entrance tickets first, so we didn’t have to wait in long lines outside the farm gate when we arrived. Here we participated for many activities such as horseback riding, feeding sheep, watching camels and rabbits and visiting the 3D library.

After visiting the Swiss sheep farm, we return to the guesthouse at 11am. Lunch at the hotel and then rest until 2pm and then check out of the guesthouse, we returned to Bangkok to fly back to Vietnam to end the trip to Hua Hin 3 days 2 nights.

Notes before you traveling to Hua Hin

Before you plan to travel to Hua Hin 3 days 2 nights, you should note a few things:

• You should exchange Thai baht first in Vietnam at reputable exchangers.
• If traveling by tuk tuk, you should bargain price in advance with the driver to avoid charge overprice.
• Bring sunscreen, mosquito repellent.

How to Easily Travel from Bangkok to Hua Hin

Hua Hin is one of Thailand’s most popular and laid back beach resorts. Approximately 3.8 million tourists visit Hua Hin every year. Luckily, if you want to visit Hua Hin, it’s very easy to travel from Bangkok to Hua Hin.

There are 5 ways you can travel from Bangkok to Hua Hin. You can take the bus, a train, a private transfer, a guided tour, or drive yourself. I think the bus is the best option. It’s quicker than the train and easier to purchase tickets online in advance.

Even though I think the bus is the best way to travel to Hua Hin from Bangkok, that doesn’t mean it’s the best option for you.

This post will cover all the different ways you can travel from Bangkok to Hua Hin, so you can choose the best option for you. Your budget, travel needs, and time constraints will all play a part in you deciding what transportation option is best for you.

All five ways to travel to Hua Hin from Bangkok have their pros and cons. You need to weigh the pros and cons and decide what the best option is for you. I’m here to help guide you in making the best decision for you and your travel needs.

Taking the Bus from Bangkok to Hua Hin

I think the bus is the best way to travel from Bangkok to Hua Hin. It’s reliable, comfortable, and there are 27 different departures from Bangkok each day. You can find a departure time that works perfectly with your travel plans.

When I talk about taking the bus to Hua Hin, I’m referring to both limousine buses and smaller vans. Whether you take a bus or a van depends on where you choose to depart from in Bangkok. We’ll talk about your options later on in this section.

Both the buses and the vans are comfortable. The buses are more comfortable. They have wider seats, and you’ll never be in squished in a middle seat.

The vans are slightly less comfortable. They have three seats in a row, so there will be one person per row who has to sit in the middle.

In the whole big scheme of things, it doesn’t really matter whether you take a bus or a van. You’ll get to Hua Hin safely and in relative comfort no matter what you ride in.

The only times where it really matters whether you take a bus vs a van is if you suffer from motion sickness or have a body shape or impairment that would make it more comfortable to sit in a larger seat on a bus rather than in a van.

How Long Does the Bus from Bangkok to Hua Hin Take?

The bus from Bangkok to Hua Hin takes between 3.5 hours and 4 hours.

The difference in driving time depends on the traffic and number of stops you make along the way. Half hour isn’t a huge time difference, so it shouldn’t be the deciding factor on what bus/van you choose to take.

Choose a departure/arrival time that suits your needs the most.

How Much Does the Bus Cost?

The price of the bus to Hua Hin depends on a few factors. What time of day you’re leaving, whether you’re taking a bus or a van, and where in the bus you sit. Tickets in the first two rows of the bus are more expensive than seats in the back of the bus.

You can expect to pay between 200 Baht and 400 Baht for your bus ticket from Bangkok to Hua Hin. That’s between $6 USD and $11 USD.

That’s a little bit more expensive than the bus prices in Northern Thailand, but everything near Bangkok tends to cost a little bit more than the rest of the country.

Overall, that’s a pretty fair price to pay for a 3.5 to 4 hour bus ride.

Do You Need to Purchase Bus Tickets in Advance?

Yes! I highly recommend you purchase your tickets in advance. When I was preparing for my first trip to Thailand, all the blogs I read said you didn’t need to purchase tickets in advance. You could just show up at the station and get a seat on the next bus out.

That may have worked in the past, but that doesn’t work anymore.

Hua Hin is quickly becoming more and more popular with tourists. Both domestic and foreign.

The buses are selling out quickly, and if you show up at the station the day you want to travel, there’s a very good chance you won’t be able to get on the bus you wanted to.

Especially if you’re taking a van that has significantly fewer seats than the bus.

Where to Purchase Bus Tickets in Advance

There are two places you can purchase bus tickets in advance. You can purchase them online or you can go to the bus station and purchase them.

Both options have their pros and cons.

You waste a lot of your precious time in Bangkok physically going to the bus station before your departure date and buying a ticket in advance. This costs not only extra money (you need to get there somehow- most likely by Grab) but also time.

The pro of purchasing your ticket in advance at the station is that it is slightly cheaper to purchase your ticket directly at the station with the bus operator.

I think purchasing your ticket online in advance is the best option.

You have to use a third-party website, and it costs a little bit more than purchasing your ticket at the station.

But the convenience outweighs the small fee for purchasing your ticket online. Plus when you consider the time and cost of going to the bus station to buy your ticket in person, it probably ends up being less expensive to purchase your ticket online.

12Go is the most reputable and reliable website to purchase bus and train tickets in Southeast Asia. If you’re purchasing tickets online, you should always use them.

They’re safe to use, sell legitimate tickets, and can help you if you run into any issues. I’ve used them lots of times during my time in Southeast Asia and have never had an issue with them.

If another website offers tickets at a much lower rate, there is a good chance they’re not selling legitimate tickets. It’s better to pay a small amount more and use a legitimate website than try to save a buck and likely get scammed.

Where Does the Bus Depart from in Bangkok?

Bangkok is a huge city, and there are multiple locations where the bus from Bangkok to Hua Hin departs from. They are:

• Ekkamai (van)
• Khao San Mama (van)
• Mochit New Van Terminal (van)
• Southern Terminal (bus)
• Khao San Tara (bus)
• Suvarnabhumi Airport (bus)

Be sure to look at where the bus/van is departing from before you purchase your ticket. Make sure you’re choosing a departure location that is convenient and easy for you to get to.

You don’t want to buy a ticket and then discover that it’s going to take you an hour on public transportation just to get to where your bus/van is departing from.

Where Does the Bus Arrive at in Hua Hin?

Just like where it departs from, there are a few different places that the bus/van arrives at in Hua Hin. They are:

• Hua Hin Minivan Station (van)
• Hua Hin Market Village (van)
• Hua Hin Alley 51 (van)
• New Hua Hin Bus Station (bus)
• Hua Hin Bus Station (bus)

Be sure to check where your bus/van is arriving at in Hua Hin, so you have an idea on where you’ll arrive in Hua Hin and plan how you’ll get to your hotel.

It’s more important to choose a convenient departure location in Bangkok than arrival location in Hua Hin in my opinion. Hua Hin is much smaller than Bangkok. No matter where you’re dropped off, it won’t be too difficult to get to wherever you’re staying.

Taking the Train from Bangkok to Hua Hin

The next best option is to take the train from Bangkok to Hua Hin. Trains in Thailand are comfortable, but they’re slow. They’re not the high-speed trains you’re used to in Europe or East Asia .

But they’re comfortable and reliable.

The train is a good option if you’re a train lover or staying super close to the train station in Bangkok.

How Long Does the Train from Bangkok to Hua Hin Take?

The train from Bangkok to Hua Hin takes 4.5 hours on average.

It may take longer if there is traffic on the railway line, but it shouldn’t take more than 5 hours.

The train is slightly slower than the bus, which is one of the reasons I prefer taking the bus over the train.

How Much Does the Train Cost?

The price of your train ticket depends on what seat you purchase. You can purchase a first-class sleeper seat or a second-class seat. The first-class seat is much larger, and you get a bed to sit or lie down on. The second-class seat is a normal train seat.

I find it a bit awkward to use a first-class sleeper seat when taking a daytime journey. I opt for a second-class seat if I’m travelling during daylight and don’t want to try to get some rest on the train.

If you’re travelling at night, it’s 100% in your best interest to purchase a first-class sleeper seat.

You can expect to pay 300 Baht for a first-class sleeper seat and 150 Baht for a second-class seat. That’s approximately $8 USD for first-class and $4 USD for second-class.

As you can see, the train prices are pretty similar to the bus prices. You’re not saving money by taking the train, but it takes longer.

The price of your ticket may not be exactly as listed above. Prices tend to change depending on the time of departure, time of year, and whenever the company decides to raise prices.

But it gives you a pretty good idea on how much you should budget for your train ticket from Bangkok to Hua Hin.

Do You Need to Purchase Train Tickets in Advance?

It’s a little bit more difficult to know whether or not you need to purchase your train ticket in advance.

Trains seat more people than the bus, and it’s less likely to sell out, but that doesn’t mean it won’t.

There have been multiple times when I’ve gone to purchase a same-day train ticket and not had any luck because it was already sold out.

That’s not necessarily the norm, but it happens more than you think. Especially on weekends and holidays.

I think it’s in your best interest to purchase your train ticket in advance, but it’s not always 100% necessary.

Where to Purchase Train Tickets in Advance

The best place to purchase your train tickets in advance is at the train station.

You used to be able to purchase train tickets to Hua Hin from Bangkok on 12Go , but it currently isn’t offered.

They may start offering train tickets again the future so be sure to check 12Go for tickets before you go all the way to the train station to purchase your ticket in advance.

Another thing to note about purchasing train tickets in advance with 12Go is that they apply a higher fee for train tickets than they do for bus tickets.

Bus tickets with 12Go are very similar to buying a ticket at the station. A train ticket on 12Go can have a fee that’s between 1/3 and 1/2 of the ticket price. I’m not sure why there is the difference in fees associated with the bus vs train tickets, but it’s something to keep in mind.

Where Does the Train Depart from in Bangkok?

All the trains from Bangkok to Hua Hin depart from Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal Station.

That makes it easy to make sure you know where you’re going and not accidentally go to the wrong departure station.

Where Does the Train Arrive at in Hua Hin?

All trains arrive in Hua Hin at the Hua Hin Railway Station.

The railway station is conveniently located less than 1km from the beach, so you’ll likely be able to walk to your hotel from the train station.

Taking a Private Transfer from Bangkok to Hua Hin

Your next option is to take a private transfer from Bangkok to Hua Hin.

This is definitely the most expensive option on this list, but it is also the most flexible. A private transfer picks you up directly at your hotel in Bangkok and drops you off at your hotel in Hua Hin.

You also have the ability to customize your trip. You can choose to stop along the way to Hua Hin and see things you’d never be able to see if you used public transportation.

If you have a larger group of people you’re travelling with, it might be the right decision to take a private transfer rather than the bus or train.

It can also be a great option for people with mobility issues or who tend to get motion sick. You can ask your driver to pull over and stop anytime you need. If you’re uncomfortable and need to stretch your feet or need some fresh air, your driver will happily pull over for you.

That’s a luxury you don’t get with public transportation.

While taking a private transfer isn’t for everybody, it’s definitely a great option for some people.

When I travelled through Vietnam for a month with my parents, they insisted on the convenience of having a private transfer between every city. It’s a luxury I wouldn’t indulge in as a solo traveller , but I’ll admit it was a very nice luxury when I was with them.

Taking a Guided Tour from Bangkok to Hua Hin

If you’re on a tight itinerary and don’t have multiple days to spend in Hua Hin, taking a guided tour is your best option.

It’s a one day tour from Bangkok. It picks you up at/near your hotel, shows you the highlight tourist attractions in Hua Hin, and drops you back in Bangkok in the evening.

It’s a very long day, but it’s the best way to see Hua Hin if you only have one day to explore the area.

You get a taste of Hua Hin, and you can decide if you want to spend more time in the area if you ever come back to Thailand.

The thing I love about the Hua Hin guided tour is that you have the option to join a guided tour or go on a private guided tour. You can save some money by spending the day exploring Hua Hin with strangers or you can spend a little bit more money and explore Hua Hin with just your group and a guide.

I love the flexibility. One of my least favourite things about guided tours is having to make small talk with strangers, and I love that you can opt out of that by taking a private guided tour to Hua Hin.

Even though it’s a long day, it’s worthwhile taking a day trip to Hua Hin. It’s one of the most popular tourist destinations in Thailand for a reason and worth seeing even if it’s just for one day.

Driving from Bangkok to Hua Hin

Your last option is to drive from Bangkok to Hua Hin.

I don’t recommend this option.

Most people who visit Southeast Asia say something along the lines that there are no rules of the road in the region. That’s false. There are definitely rules of the road. You just don’t know them as a tourist visiting the region.

And because you don’t know the unspoken rules of the road, you put yourself and everybody else on the road with you in danger when you drive as a foreigner.

Unless you’ve driven in Southeast Asia a lot and are very confident, I don’t think you should drive from Bangkok to Hua Hin.

Take public transportation or pay for a private transfer.

It’ll be safer and less stressful.

The Importance of Internet Safety

One of the most overlooked travel safety tips is to be internet safe. You rely on public wifi when you travel, and that puts you at a higher risk of having your personal and private online information stolen.

Even if you install an esim on your phone, you still rely on public wifi some of the time (like in your hotel). Even if the wifi network has a password associated with it, you’re still not safe. Anybody who has access to that password (e.g. everybody staying in the hotel) is able to access your private online information if they choose to. Including your banking information.

Trust me when I say that it’s no fun having to deal with your bank and cancel your bank cards while on holiday because you weren’t being internet safe.

The only way to stay safe when using public wifi is by installing a VPN on your devices.

A VPN essentially puts an invisible forcefield around your devices that keeps prying eyes out. It makes using public wifi just as safe as using your home wifi where you’re the only person who knows the password.

It’s one of the easiest ways to stay safe while travelling. I always say that if you can afford to travel, you can afford to install a VPN on your devices.

My Favourite VPN

As you can see, it’s super easy to travel from Bangkok to Hua Hin. You have lots of different transportation options, so you can choose the best one for you and your travel needs.

I personally prefer the bus , but you may prefer the train or a private transfer . If you’re short on time, a guided tour is probably the best option for you.

I love that there is a transportation method that suits everybody’s needs. No matter how you prefer to travel or what your budget it, you’ll have no trouble getting from Bangkok to Hua Hin.

And no matter how you choose to get there, you won’t regret going to Hua Hin. It’s one of the most beautiful and laid back areas of Thailand. Everybody who goes loves it, and it’s a nice break from the hustle and bustle of Bangkok.
