Guenevere Zara

What an emotional journey it has been with Kingston College! Being here for the last 5 years has changed my life completely and leaving this year will be a hard step as tutors have been a pleasure encouraging me to do well and get the good grades and I will absolutely miss them! Meeting new people has been my favourite moment because it has made me a different person and I gained confidence which I hope to use at University.

Winning ‘Student of the Year’ two years in a row has been a good achievement for me as well as pushing my boundaries to getting to where I want to be. The advice I would give for those that want to apply for my course to be passionate about travel and of course focusing on the goal you want to reach in the end.

I loved that I was able to go on so many trips. I have been to Barcelona and Rome as well as other smaller day trips to Chessington World of Adventures, Alton Towers, the V&A museum and many more.

I have enjoyed the opportunity of doing work experience with British Airways. I completed a week’s placement where I checked in passengers and boarded them. It helped me realise my interests in working for an airline.

I started at Kingston College on a Level 3 Travel and Tourism course and progressed through the levels to the HND. I have accepted a place at St Mary’s University to study a BA (Hons) Travel and Tourism Management to complete my degree and graduate.

More Gen Zs look to the hospitality and tourism industry for meaningful jobs

travel and tourism btec careers

SINGAPORE – Guest relations executive Elaine Chua works 9½-hour shifts five days a week at Swissotel The Stamford. Even though the 24-year-old’s schedule changes weekly, and some days start earlier and end later than others, she finds it easy to be motivated for work.

Beyond working the check-in counters, she also supports the teams handling foreign airline crew stays and assists with operations in the executive lounge. Part and parcel of the job is resolving guest complaints and offering service recovery options such as discounts or complimentary upgrades to keep customers happy, which can be stressful.
