We travel 3/4 of the year in our RV. So, it's important to us that it feels like home, just as much as our sticks-and-bricks home.

When you travel for a long time (or even just a weekend), it's surprising how easy it is to feel homesick. This is especially true if you're transitioning to a full-time RV lifestyle.

For those folks, making your rig feel more like home is essential! That way, you can live or travel as much as you want in your RV but still feel safe and comfortable.

We've broken our top tips for making your RV feel like home into 4 categories: Decorating, Extending to Outdoors, Organizing, and Remodeling.

Decorating Tips

Decorating your RV to feel like home is the most obvious way to make your travels more comfortable and enjoyable. However, it's not easy with limited wall space and shelf space. Not to mention weight limits!

Personalization is key while making sure it's functional and space-efficient to accommodate your on-the-road lifestyle.

Here are some tips and ideas to help you achieve a cozy and personalized RV interior.

1. Choose a Color Scheme

Start by selecting a color scheme that you love and that reflects your style. Depending on your preferences, earthy tones, soft pastels, or bright, vibrant colors can all work well.

2. Maximize Storage

RVs often have limited storage space, so invest in storage solutions like under-bed bins, hanging organizers, and collapsible containers to keep your belongings organized and out of sight.

We'll go into this tip in more depth later. But, by maximizing storage, you free up space for personalized decorations.

3. Cozy Seating Areas

One of the biggest reasons an RV doesn't feel like home is it's not as comfortable. So, add RV throw pillows and blankets to create a cozy atmosphere.

4. Window Treatments

Install curtains, blinds, or shades to add privacy and control the amount of natural light that enters your RV. This also adds a touch of home decor to the space.

By adding privacy products to your RV , you won't feel like you're camping neighbors are encroaching on your personal space.

5. Add Photos and Art

Hang family photos, artwork, or other personal items on the walls to give your RV a more homey feel. Adhesive hooks or strips can help you avoid damaging the walls.

Even sticking family photos and grandkid drawings on your RV goes a long way. We have used Mixtiles and can recommend them.

6. Flooring

If you prefer something else to the RV's existing flooring, consider adding rugs or removable floor tiles to make it more comfortable and visually appealing.

As an added bonus, it'll help protect your RV flooring. We also recommend using RV outdoor rugs and patio mats to further protect your RV flooring from excess dirt coming in.

7. Lighting

Replace harsh overhead lights with softer, warmer LED lights, or add table and floor lamps to create a cozy ambiance. String lights or fairy lights can also add a touch of magic to your RV.

8. Decorate the Kitchen

Enhance your RV kitchen with practical and stylish accessories. Replace cabinet hardware, add a backsplash, and include attractive kitchen utensils and RV-safe dishes .

Incorporate small indoor plants or succulents to bring a bit of nature inside and improve air quality. This may seem difficult to do in an RV, but it's not!

Temporary wall decals or removable wallpaper can add patterns or designs to your RV's walls, giving it a more homey and personalized look.

12. Curtains or Room Dividers

Use curtains or room dividers to separate different areas of your RV, such as the bedroom from the living area, to create distinct spaces and added privacy.

Listen to live music

8 Ways to Make an Extended Hotel Stay Feel More Like Home

A stay in a luxurious hotel is an indulgent experience: the beds are fluffy , the pillows are plentiful, and you can order ice cream right to your room and eat it in bed as you flip through the TV channels. But after a long trip, you’re often ready to get home and sleep in your own bed .

For some business travelers, however, hotels become a home away from home where you can stay for weeks — or even months — on end. And there’s only so many times you can eat crème brûlée in bed before it becomes less of a luxury and more like straight excess.

An extended stay at a hotel will never feel exactly like home, but when you’re living on the road, there are a few things you can do to bring a bit of coziness to the space.

Rob Burgess, the founder of the air miles blog Head for Points , told Business Insider that when he travels he puts away all the leaflets and information cards to make the room feel more like home.

"All of those brochures, leaflets, and stand-up cards on the desk, TV, side table etc. — put them in a drawer," said Burgess.

Amy Bradley-Hole, who has worked in the hotel industry for years, penned a column that appeared on NBC News and suggested that people ask for things like a DVD player or an extra lamp.

“Your room may not come standard with certain amenities, but it doesn’t hurt to ask for them,” Bradley-Hole wrote. “Just speak to a manager about any special requests. There may be a small charge for some of these items, but it will most likely be worth it.”

You can bring something from home to make the space feel like your own (hello luxury soap ) or even bring your best furry friend along. Use these tips to make your hotel room feel a bit less like a hotel room and more like home.

Utilize the hotel’s services.

Hotels like Hyatt House tend to be set up apartment-style, with separate spaces to sleep, hang out, eat, or work. Fully equipped kitchens mean that you don’t have to eat out — which is good for your waistline, wallet, and schedule — and 24/7 on-site laundry means you’ll be able to establish a routine even if you’re far from home.

Bring something from home to decorate with.

One of the best parts about being home is living amongst your personal touches — photographs of family and friends, decor you’ve picked out, or your favorite scented candle. These are all things that can come with you when you move into a hotel. We don’t suggest bringing your couch, of course, but a few personal touches can make a hotel room feel a little less stark.

Take your technology with you.

We often rely on certain tech items and when we don’t have them it can feel like something is missing. For example, I like to ask my Google Home Mini for the news every morning and use it to check the weather forecast while I’m getting ready. When I’m in a hotel, however, I often start to ask it something only to realize it’s not there. But so many of these devices are portable and can be used anywhere with a Wi-Fi connection, making your hotel feel a bit more like home.

Opt for your own pillow.

A good pillow is crucial for a good night’s sleep, and when you travel, you probably miss the comfort of your own bed. While you can’t bring your whole mattress with you, you can bring a pillow or two to mimic that feeling of home when you’re on the road.

De-clutter the room.

Like Burgess recommended, this simple step can make a world of difference. Hotels often put in their rooms pamphlets and cards that tell you everything from how things work to where you can go to get food nearby. While all of this information is good to have, simply putting these loose papers away can go a long way in making an extended-stay property look more like an apartment.

Unpack immediately.

No one likes living out of a suitcase — it’s cumbersome to keep tidy and things are hard to find. One of the first things you should do when you get to a hotel is unpack your clothes and put them away just like you would at home. Then, stow away your suitcase so you don’t have to constantly stare at it.

Maintain your routine.

Just because you’re in a hotel room doesn’t mean your routine has to go out the window. If you really like to hit the gym at 5 p.m. every day, then you should continue to do just that. And if you spend one evening a week at home watching “Jeopardy” with a bowl of mac and cheese, then find a way to make that your hotel routine too. It will help you feel less like you’re traveling if you establish a routine while you’re away.

Bring your dog along.

Many of Hyatt House’s properties are pet-friendly , so there’s no reason to leave your best furry friend at home. Having a dog to come home to is one of the things that makes a house a home, and there’s no quicker way to make your extended stay feel homier than by having your dog there to greet you. But keep in mind there is often a pet cleaning fee and be sure to check for size restrictions.

One of the true joys of traveling around in an RV is that it feels as if it is a ‘home away from home’.

Even if you are exploring the roads of this fabulous country, you are always going to be within arm’s reach of those home comforts.

Of course, there are always things that you can do to make your RV seem a little bit more homely, and I hope that the tips in this article will give you an idea or two about how to go about this.

1. Get yourself a mattress topper

It is fair to say that mattresses on RV beds are hardly the most comfortable. If you want something to feel like a home, then you need to have a comfortable night of rest.

Purchase a mattress topper. Sleep on that. Obviously, one of the major benefits of a topper is that you should be able to wash it a whole lot easier too.

This means that you are less likely to get dirt and grime on your mattress, which will probably cause it to look a bit tacky after a few weeks out on the road.

If you want to improve your sleeping situation even more, then you may want to bring yourself a blanket or a pillow from home.

It just makes everything seem a lot more comfortable when you are out there on the road. You could even bring your favorite slippers or a dressing gown. It is so much more comfortable.

2. Decorate the RV

No. You are probably not going to be carrying out a complete renovating here. It is an RV, after all. However, add a few hints of home into your space.

This is especially important if you are bringing your kids along for the trip. Being able to put up some posters, or even a few photo frames, here, and there is going to work wonders.

Obviously, you will want to make sure that you do not decorate with ‘loose’ items such as ornaments. They are going to be flying about everywhere once you start to vehicle up, which is going to lead to a lot of breakages. Never a good thing!

3. Put Rug on the RV floor

The problem with most RVs is that they tend to have the most hideous of floors. Laminate just does not feel good under the feet.

Picking up a rug and putting it on the floor of your RV or travel trailer is going to go a long way towards making everything feel more comfortable.

You will also find that the rug traps heat in the RV a little bit better, which means that it is going to be warmer inside. Perfect if you are in the midst of nowhere on a cold night.

4. Paint the cabinets

Again, the cabinets in an RV or travel trailer never look that brilliant. They are often constructed from the cheapest wood imaginable. Unless offcorse, you own a luxurious Class A motorhome, which by the way can cost you thousands of dollars.

While some people are fine with not so good cabinets, if you want to give the RV a bit more of a ‘home like’ feel on a budget, then a lick of paint on the cabinets will work absolute wonders.

It will really make the interior of your RV nice and unique. You will get a smile on your face when you head into the back after a long day on the road.

5. Install Mirrors

These actually serve several purposes in your RV. The main is that they are going to make the place look better. They are going to serve a practical purpose too.

In addition to this, the mirrors can help bring more light into your RV, and they can even make the space that you are living in feel a lot bigger. This is great if you have a smaller RV. It does help ensure that you feel a lot less ‘claustrophobic’.

Remember; if you are going to be installing mirrors into your RV, you need to make sure that they are fixed to the wall perfectly.

They shouldn’t be able to budge. Flying pots and pans when you are driving is bad. Flying glass is even worse.

6. Use proper pots and pans

One thing that we can never understand is people who pick up an RV, but use cheap cooking equipment in it. It is not fuel efficient, and the food never tastes quite as good.

A good suggestion is to bring your favorite pans along with you. It will make cooking in a small room like this that much more pleasurable, and I bet you are going to end up liking the food you cook a whole lot more!

7. Bring some music

This is probably something that you already had in mind anyway. However, bring some music. It adds a bit of atmosphere to the RV at night, and it is going to help you get through your driving too.

DVDs will also help. If you have a ‘portable’ power supply that you can switch on while driving and you have some kids, putting on a DVD is going to keep them occupied.

This means less complaining about whether you are there yet, or whatever annoying things your kids end up saying when they get bored.

8. Make use of Oil Diffusers

With an RV or travel trailer, you typically have a lot of people forced into a small space for long periods of time.

No matter how often you lot shower, there is going to be a bit of a smell in there. So, pick yourself up an oil diffuser. This will deodorize the place.

It won’t be able to completely get rid of the ‘stale’ smell, but that is why you should be leaving your windows open on occasion. Of course, the oil diffuser will also help the RV smell a bit more like home. Don’t forget to regularly clean to ensure it looks like home too!

9. Use Awning and outdoor camping chairs

You shouldn’t stay cooped up inside your RV at all times. When you park up, maybe you could try to extend your space outside?

Purchase an awning . Maybe a windbreaker.

You could also get some outdoor chairs that you can rest on. Even a BBQ wouldn’t go amiss. Since you probably have a garden at home, stuff like this is really going to help when it comes to making things homely.

10. Get a Generator

Obviously, for many of us, our favorite thing about being at home is having access to electrical appliances. Being able to watch TV. Being able to use our laptop to access the internet.

Cooking foods at the stove. Refrigerating food. There is nothing that says you won’t be able to do this on the road. You just need to have a generator ‘in tow’.

Now, obviously, many of the sites that you end up camping at will have electrical hook-ups, which means you won’t need to be using the generator all of the time.

However, having your own power supply will give you a great deal more leeway about where you end up camping.

You could take your RV out into the middle of nowhere. Not a person in sight. As long as you have a generator , you will still be able to enjoy what it is like to be at home.

11. Buy some plants

Originally, it was tough for me to recommend plants in an RV. This is because you are going to be putting them away whenever you head out on the road again.

However, I have seen countless other people share this tip, and in the grand scheme of things, it probably isn’t going to take too long to put plants away.

You can purchase real or fake ones. I tend to prefer fake. There is less that can go wrong with them, plus the air in an RV is not always the fresh which probably isn’t that good when it comes to the life of a plant. Purchasing real also means that you have another thing to look after on your trip.

12. Bring your pets

Seriously. Cat. Dog. Bring them. They are part of the family, so why shouldn’t they be enjoying ‘life on the road’ just as much as you are?

13. Don’t bring too much with you

Your RV is not as big as your home. Remember that. If you bring too much with you, then it isn’t a good thing.

Your RV will appear cluttered. I am sure that your home doesn’t look cluttered, so why would you want your RV to appear like that?

If you can, bring storage boxes and the like which you can place into the cupboards of your RV. It will help when it comes to organizing and ensure that everything stays looking neat and tidy.

14. Upgrade the RV interiors

An RV can be used for many years. It can stay usable for as many as 20 years or even more. But, that does not mean you continue with the same interior. Obviously the interiors wouldn’t remain as good as they were during initial years.

Renovating the RV interiors can add a lot of life. It can make a lot more livable. Small things like changing curtains, painting, and getting some new appliances can make a lot of difference.

Its just like how you would treat your home. If you RV often then getting this done can be really worthy.

15. Replace lights

RV lights may not give you a home like feel. Try getting lights that are better and give you a home like feel. Lights can make a lot of difference, it can change your mood.

Just like how you would pay special attention to lights for your home bedroom, give it a try for your RV as well.

In-fact try to change things to personalize. Its all about you and your family. Getting or changing even minors things can make a lot of difference. I am sure you will have several such ideas that will personalize the experience for you.

16. Bring slipper and other comfort items

Try to get items like slipper or other cozy items that will make you feel like home. Especially when the weather is cool your feet will feel cold. Any type of slipper that you prefer to wear in the home will make it.

17. Get books

Reading a book or two during your RV trip shouldn’t be considered boring. Especially when you love reading, it can give you a home like feeling. So, get a book or two that you wanted to finish. Its all about making things as normal as home and reading a book while resting can be a great thing for sure.

For me, getting to read can be super comfortable and home like. So, yes this can be great while camping in the campsite.

18. Prepare your favorite meals

One of the things that you can do to make it like home is to simply prepare the meal that you like the most. Good food can lighten anybody mood. Imagine about just the meal that you love most.

Having all the things in motorhome or camper can be difficult due to space problems. But, if you can do a thing like this it can really make it feel like home. In fact you can surprise your wife, or husband, or kids by preparing their favorite meal in the RV.

Some tips to decorate a new or used RV

Decoration as we saw above can really make it feel like home. After all doing what we do at home is all we need to do in RV to make it feel like home. Here are some tips to decorate the RV.

• Paint the RV walls as per your personality. Getting it painted with some cool designs and patterns can change your mood.
• Replace the curtain to match your lifestyle and mood.
• Make use of artwork to decorate the interior. No need to go for a very high budget artwork. Find things that are within budget and do not take up extra space.
• Change Bathroom accesories once in while to give a fresh look and feel
• Make use of space-saver items.

Obviously, you will never be able to get your RV looking 100% like home. You probably don’t want it like that. Heading out in an RV is going to be a little bit of a vacation, after all. However, follow the tips that I have mentioned in this article. Make your RV as comfortable as you possibly can. You will enjoy your trip along the road a whole lot better. I promise you.

If your RV has a lot of windows, you may not want curtains on every window. Reupholstering the valences with your choice of fabric and a staple gun might be a better option for some windows.

Make it Cozy with Throw Pillows and Blankets

Nothing says “cozy” like throw pillows and blankets and having a comfortable area where you can relax is what home is all about. Consider your couch and bed to be naked without some pillows and a throw blanket. This is also a great way to add some color and patterns to the design.

Since most RV interiors are shades of brown, adding color in small ways can make a huge difference to the overall appearance of items within your RV bedroom . If you already have throw pillows but don’t like the fabric, consider purchasing a pillow cover or recovering them yourself.

Again, you can use hem tape and an iron if you don’t want to sew! For small trailers, make the most of your space with savvy teardrop camper additions and accessories .

Paint the Walls and/or Cabinets

This is a bigger project, but one that can completely transform the interior of your RV . White walls and cabinets can make a space feel much larger than it is. Painting allows you to add a pop of color to make the interior match your personality and style.

If you don’t want to deal with the hassle of painting, simply removing the wallpaper border that comes in many RVs can also help. Then you can come into a Camping World Design Center to pick out new paint or interior decor!

One final pro tip for making your RV feel more like home is keeping it neat and organized. It can be tough to know how to fit all your belongings in such a small space, but avoiding clutter is crucial. Be sure to read our tips for organizing the inside of your RV for helpful products and hacks for maximizing the storage space.

They say, “home is where you park it” but your RV or travel trailer will feel more like home with the tips we shared. A welcoming interior and fully outfitted RV patio make things feel comfortable for you and your guests.

It doesn’t take much to do a makeover, but it can make a world of difference in how it feels. The only thing better than RVing is having a little piece of home away from home wherever you go!

We have purchased a 30 foot C class motorhome (new) and it has the most uncomfortable foldout couch ever. Would love to find one that is comfortable to set on to watch TV and then make a bed for the night..

I would also like to know how to replace my couch in my slide with recliners. I don’t believe it can be done in my Shadow Cruiser. Slide seems too flimsy to anchor a love seat that reclines or 2 recliners. Anyone? I can’t see myself moving the furniture every time we put the slide in or out.

I have had recliners in two of my past 5th wheels. They were never anchored down and no problem traveling. We have been back and forth accross the country several times. And, on many different roads.

I would like to replace the chairs at ur dining set with storage benches. Be alot easier and dont have to tie them down. Is there a place we can trade 4 chairs for 2 storage benches ???

How do you go about removing the boarder

well I have done 4out of 5 can’t bare rge thought of painting! Plus our Tiffin has beautiful tile onost of the walls. We went with Wayfair(“has just what I need” ), Pier I ,Amazon and Walmart. This expense should figured into the cost of initial ownership just like the taxes!

I agree with removing the valances. I’ve taken mine down and am in the process of putting up curtains with matching valances. I’m going to install the curtain rods higher than the window and wider to create the illusion of larger windows. That method will eliminate the need to hem the curtains. Walmart has the double curtain rods for the valance and curtain to be installed together.

Our ‘new’ prep wed rv has mirrors mirrors and more mirrors backspace wall is mirrors.dont want to get into a mess removing them but would like to cover them with something mor homey any suggestions.

To make it more homey, I have problems with microwave ovens place so high I see the bottom of the oven – on the outside not the bottom where the turntable is. My question then is “will the manufacturer pay for the emergency room when I get burned by trying to take something hot out of the microwave where I am not sure where the floor of the oven is?

My husband tore out the awful bench seat around the dining table and the awful sofa. We bought a leather futon-style sofa at Costco to sit on or lay flat for a bed. He trimmed the dining table a couple of inches and we bought a chair to sit in at the table. That’s where I sit when I’m using my laptop.

We took out the U-shaped dining room table from our Winnebago travel trailer and replaced with 2 recliners, purchased from on-line source, RecPro. Much better seating option for us, minus the table, which works better for us (and seeing the tv is better too). We eat outside most always, or use tv trays to eat off when inclement weather – we don’t miss the U-shaped dinette at all! (it’s just the two (adults) traveling).

Yes. We did exactly what you described. The recliners are comfy. However, it was a project to get the recliners through the door of the RV. Don’t buy chairs that are too large! Also, we sold the couch on fb. It helped with the cost of the 2 recliners. And btw, we hook the seatbelts from the couch to the chairs when driving, to keep them from rolling around. You have probably made changes already, since your post was 3 years ago.

The RV recliners typically run $650 apiece

We just replaced our couch with two wall hugger recliners from Walmart. They sit great.

We just received a double reclining sofa with center console from RecPro. Very comfortable. We had the same problem with our Thor Vegas. Couch was awfully uncomfortable.

RecPro makes a loveseat recliner that looks like it will work nicely. We’re planning on replacing ours sometime soon. It will be around $779.00, delivered to our home within the week of ordering. (RecPro.com)

Hi, we took our leather couch out and put in two nice lazy boy recliner chairs that we found on sale!! We love it so much, more comfortable and we put the couch in our spare room which has a queen bed in it for when my grandkids come to stay the night. We also changed out the gold bedspread with a pretty color spread, looks so much more like home!! I use place mats for meals and have flowers on the table and by my sink, make it pretty!

We replaced an old uncomfortable couch in our first fifth wheel and took out two worn out ugly recliners. We did not replace the couch with a couch instead since it is just myself and my husband we put in two glider-rocker recliners. We put one where the couch was with a small narrow end table with a drawer,. And put the other one in the end section where the two other recliners came out of and another small narrow end table with a drawer. Thus giving us our own space. Last Oct. we upgraded from a 32′ fifth wheel to a 36′. The couch in this one is nicer and therefore it is staying. But the two recliners in it were not comfortable at all. So out they went and Lazy Boys came in. Good to go !!

For the second time in two years my shade came apart.To much Hassel to re string them.They will wrought out again in the hot Nv sun.So went to Walmart and bought spring rods.Works perfect to hang new blackout curtains.Extend the rod inside the valance boxes.Makes my home even more “homey”.

How hard is it to remove 5he valances in order to paint them? Where did you find the paint for fabric?

We just put 2 new lazy-boy recliners in our RV and we love them. Just measure and be aware of the size you need. We bought 2 for our house and 2 for the RV and of course the ones for the RV are slightly smaller.

In my motorhome my recliner isn’t anchored down. It’s heavy enough that it doesn’t move.

Try Big Lots.

I replaced my sofa with a reclining loveseat. I paid $450 for mine from Wayfair. My brother wanted the same one for his travel trailer and I lucked up and caught it on sale for $384 on Amazon. Look for “Bill reclining loveseat” It comes in a box in 5 pieces which simply slide together for easy assembly. Will easily fit through an RV door. I think the info says it will fit through a 26.6 inch door. Very comfortable and great quality. Has excellent online reviews.

Lazy boy has RV recliners with fabric

We ordered 2 recliners online for both was less than $300 . a was a bundle of 2. They are also wall huggers are whatever you call them. You can recline them out even though they are sitting close to wall. Make sure and measure your area you are wanting to put them. The shipping was free also.

We just purchased 2 small lazy boy recliners for our camper and love them! They come in 2 pieces are are easy to get through the door.

Walmart online sells short queen mattress. It has a 2″ gel top…love it!! It coves in a box, and expands when you open it,so you want to open the box in the motorhome.

Check out the peel an apply wall coverings you can find even on Amazon and Wayfair. I have seen it in RVs alreayd and it looked great. I am wondering if I should try it.

You can use an oul based primer over the wallpaper

Try Glidden Gripper. It not only paints over wallpaper, it will also paint over fabric if you have ugly fabric valances. I’m using it as a primer while restoring our ’88 Gulfstream.

If it’s metal Walmart has magnetic ones

WalMart us them. I covered our valences with bright colored material. Different material for the bedroom. I also took a heavy indoor outdoor material in one solid color and sewed it to the curtain for the front of the RV. I call it my accent wall.

We used a dowel rod and command hooks

I am thinking of stapling one over my door. It already has that material on a board thing, afraid to pull that off, so just put new fabric on it ?!

We found our curtain rods at Walmart! Amazon is always a great place to check too!

HD has rolls of 2 sided adhesive for putting up tile

Will a spring tension rod work? I have used them with great results.

You can also find the self-adhesive backsplashes online. Much bigger selection.

You can get thin metal sheets we put a piece next to fridge and stove is awesome got it at Lowe’s or Home Depot can’t remember

I found that comand hooks make tje wall bubble, so be careful, for light stuff use strength pins.

70+ World Travel Themed Home Decor Ideas

Pretty soon, I’ll have my first place of my own (I’ve moved out before, but I was always in some sort of dorm), and I’m super excited to buy all the furniture, decor, and everything else that goes with getting your own place. Given my very obvious travel addiction, I thought it would make sense for a lot of the home decor in my new apartment to be travel themed. I can’t make EVERYTHING travel themed (my boyfriend would kick me out before we even moved in), but let’s just say people won’t have to guess what I had in mind when decorating our new place. So, if you are moving into a new place, or just looking to do some redecorating, check out these world travel themed home decor ideas!

Travel Inspired Living Room Decorations

Travel throw pillows.

Pillows are a great way to add just a touch of travel decor to a living room. They’re not overly obnoxious, but still obvious. Plus, since they come in so many different colors, it’s not too terribly difficult to find one that would match your couch!

Stacked Travel Chests

I found out real fast when looking at furniture that end tables are surprisingly expensive. So, when I saw these on Amazon, I thought it was a really cool idea. Instead of the traditional end table (that may or may not have a small drawer to put things in), why not get suitcase styled chests? They’re stack-able and can store way more than your traditional end table.

Suitcase Shelves

I found these in one of the home decor stores I had visited and thought it was a cute idea. Instead of the traditional wooden shelves, get creative and use shelves that were decorated to look like suitcases. They’ll match your suitcase end tables!

Travel Coasters

If you don’t already have some souvenir drink coasters from your various trips around the world, you can get some world map drink coasters to make sure your new, nice tables don’t get ruined by condensation from drinking glasses.

World Map Tissue Box Cover

I don’t think too many people use tissue box covers anymore, but I thought it was one of the more unique travel decor ideas. If nothing else, it’s a conversation piece!

Traditional Globes

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of travel decor? A globe of course! You can’t decorate your new place with a travel theme and not have at least one globe around.

Travel Themed Dining Room Decor

Like I mentioned above, once you get that nice, new table, you don’t want it to be ruined from moisture from cold drinks or hot plates. Placemats are an easy and common fix to that problem. If you’re going to be buying placemats anyway, might as well make them travel themed, right?

If dinner placemats aren’t enough, why not complete the look with a matching table runner?

World Travel Bedroom Decor

Looking for something cool and unique to show off to all of your friends? Then you have to check out this floating globe lamp! It uses magnets to make the globe levitate and it even spins around like a traditional globe! It has LEDs built into the frame to make it light up and look even cooler! Of course, you can always go with the more traditional travel home decor too…

Do you dream of traveling the world? I thought so! Why not go to sleep surrounded by a map of all the places you dream of visiting?

Travel Pillow Cases

Of course, you can’t have a world map bed comforter and not have matching pillow cases. You just can’t do it.

Travel Themed Bathroom Decor

Travel inspired shower curtains.

Since most showers require some sort of shower curtain (unless you don’t mind lots of water getting all over the floor), having a travel themed shower curtain is an easy way to add a touch of travel to your home life. It’s simple, and separate from the rest of the rooms in the house (in case you don’t want your guests overwhelmed by travel decor the moment they walk into your new place).

If you are looking to make the entire bathroom travel themed (instead of just having a touch of it), you can also get bath towels that are travel themed. It’s especially nice if you have a rack where you can sort of hang them on display when not in use.

Travel Inspired Kitchen Items

Even if you’re not into the “travel decor” thing, you can still add a bit of travel to your home life. You can break out these glasses when you’ve brought home some souvenir drinks from your most recent destination.

If you don’t have a big dinning room table, or aren’t really the type of person to use placemats and a table runner, you can still add a bit of travel decor to meal time with these cool looking plates!

Travel Inspired Napkins

My mom always gives me a hard time because I have a bad habit of wiping my hands on my jeans instead of using a napkin (especially when eating greasy or salty foods), but if I had these napkins, I might be a little more inclined to use them (hint-hint mom: these would make a good moving gift).

World Map Cutting Board

Cutting boards are another one of those more subtle items that don’t necessarily get put on display. Since most traditional cutting boards are typically pretty bland, you can spice yours up by getting a travel decorated one.

Travel Themed Office Decor

Push pin cork globe.

My boyfriend and I are to turning our second bedroom into an office since both of us have computer desks. It’s the perfect place to put a tiny globe like this one. Plus, it’s exciting being able to put a new pin in it every time we go someplace new.

Globe Book Ends

I LOVE books. Unfortunately I don’t have as much time to read as I used to (which I think is a shame given how much I really loved it), but I’m really proud of my bookshelves and all the books that sit on them. Plus, I’ve always loved the feel of sitting in a library (especially those rustic ones you see in movies). I figured why not combine some of my biggest passions and add a little travel decor to my bookshelves?

Book Box Covers

If you’ve never heard of book boxes, don’t feel guilty. I hadn’t heard of them either until I started shopping for home decor! Book boxes are great for those book lovers (like me) that want their books to remain in mint condition. You can put your favorite books in book boxes to protect them from dust and moisture. Plus you can give your bookshelves more of a universal look (like the rustic library I mentioned above).

Because no desk would be complete without a pencil or pen holder.

Travel Wall Decor

This is what usually comes to mind when you think of travel decor (and usually some of the first results when looking online). You can always go with the traditional, school-like world map, but there are some really cool looking world maps out there if you’re looking for something a little more unique.

Scratch Off World Maps

In more recent years, scratch off world maps have become more popular. They’re a great way to showcase all of the different places you’ve been! My mom got me one for Christmas and I absolutely love it. However, all of the places I’ve been are pretty small, so it doesn’t look like I’ve scratched anything off, but I’m working on it!

Wall Clocks

This is another one of more simple travel decor ideas. It’s a common household decoration and easy to customize to your style. Plus, there are lots of different options out there, so it isn’t too difficult to find one you like.

Word Art and Hangings

You can find all sorts of quotes that have been turned into travel decor. I feel like almost every home decor store that I’ve walked into has had some sort of wall piece with an inspiration adventure quote on it. Even if you’re not looking to go all out with the travel theme, they’re something small and nice you can hang on the wall to express your passion for travel.

What better way to welcome guests than to welcome them to your adventures? No better way to set the travel theme than to have it be the first thing you see!

Light Switch Covers

I don’t know if I would replace every light switch cover in my new place with a travel inspired one, but I thought it was a unique way to incorporate travel into home decor. At this point though, the rest of the place is already travel themed, might as well make the light switches travel themed too.

Outlet Covers

If you’ve got travel themes lights switch covers, it only makes sense that you have travel inspired outlet covers too. If you have one, you just have to have the other!

There's been some discussion around the internets about why tiny homes are not the same as recreational vehicles and trailers . But the line dividing them isn't always very clear, given there are some trailers that are so well-built that they seem more like a tiny home than a mass-manufactured trailer or RV. And then there is a segment of tiny homes that are built with RVIA (Recreation Vehicle Industry Association) certification.

Wyoming-based builder Wheelhaus is one of these builders that previously showed how the careful and clever design ideals behind the tiny house movement might be integrated into the creation of park model RVs, also known as recreational park trailers (RPTs). Their 400-square-foot Wedge model—which was certified as an RV and could be towed and parked in any RV park or campground, is one of these tiny-house-RV-hybrids, which the company touts as the "the next generation of RPTs." More recently, Wheelhaus introduced a smaller version of this popular model, dubbed the Roadhaus Wedge RV.

A Mobile House Hybrid

Coming in at 10.5 feet wide and 38 feet long, it's a gorgeous design that looks familiar , but is also reminiscent of early Modernism or something Eames-like.

It's well-lit and topped with a roof that seems to float, letting even more light in, while offering more privacy.

The main draw in the living room is the glass-wrapped corner on one end; part of it is actually a huge glass door that swings out, extending the interior space out over the included wooden deck.

Fitting the Amenities

The kitchen is beyond; it's not too big but has a bigger sink, a very small stovetop and an adjustable storage option with the pegboard.

A small closet/cabinet reveals a mirror and is clad with pegboard, creating a flexible storage system for kitchenware.

The kitchen runs along one side, with wonderful windows to look out of.

The bathroom is designed as a wet room; it's covered with silver tiles and there doesn't appear to be any separation between the shower and the rest of the space.

The bedroom is all the way in the back, with enough space to fit a queen-sized bed.

That "floating" roof means clerestory windows bring ample light into the bedroom.

The whole thing is on wheels, so it can be moved easily, more so than its larger predecessor, The Wedge. It comes in sizes from 160 to 240 square feet and is cheaper too, but not by much with a base price of USD $76,000. The clear advantage here though is that like The Wedge, the Roadhaus Wedge RV tiny house can be towed and parked in RV and trailer parks.

But, as we've speculated before, this crossing-over between the two worlds may be the future of the tiny house movement, as regulations change and appetites for better designs emerge, possibly opening the door to more tiny houses certified as RVs, making their appearance in more RV and trailer parks. Sights of Elektrostal, Moscow region

In the Moscow region there is a small cozy town Elektrostal. Its sights for the most part have no historical value due to the fact that the city has a relatively small history. But for a visiting tourist or city dweller, they will be of interest. There is something to see, where to go to have an exciting leisure time.

Today the population of the city is 158 thousand people. Until the beginning of the 20th century there were several small workers' settlements here. After the opening of the electrometallurgical and equipment factories, the place began to be called the natural boundary of Calm. The construction of the railway made this settlement accessible, and workers and families flocked here to earn money. In 1925, the station was named Elektrostal, and the rapid increase in population allowed the village to receive the status of a city.

The founder of the city is a prominent Russian industrialist Nikolai Vtorov. It was he who opened the plant here, creating, in fact, a city-forming enterprise that is still operating. In Soviet times, it was a closed facility, and it was not easy to get to work here.

Today Elektrostal is a promising industrial city with a great future and a heroic past. It bears the proud name "City of Military and Labor Glory".

Those who come to the city by train are met by a monument to the metallurgist. It was installed in November 2017 for the 100th anniversary of the Elektrostal plant. The attraction is made in the style of constructivism. The monument quickly won the love of the townspeople, because this city is supported by ordinary workers.

Elektrost altsy and the founding father of the plant, Nikolai Vtorov, are honored. In 2002, a monument was opened in honor of him, which became a landmark of the city of Elektrostal. The bronze sculpture is installed on the site where once stood a monument to the leader of the world proletariat, V. I. Lenin. Times change, characters change. Today, the plant, founded a century ago, is the largest in Russia. Vtorov himself, whose fortune was estimated at 60 million rubles in gold, according to Forbes magazine, was the owner of the largest capital at the beginning of the century. He was a banker, an industrialist, an entrepreneur, a man of action.

The monument was erected byinitiative of the townspeople who wished to perpetuate the monument to the great man.

One of the popular places for spending weekends and evenings among citizens and guests of the city is the Park of Culture and Leisure. Here you can ride attractions for children and adults, play slot machines, rollerblade or bike. The park is divided into two zones. Fans of unhurried walks in the fresh air make a promenade on the Quiet Alley, and those who prefer outdoor activities flock to the Entertainment Alley. The park has a summer stage, where concerts and cafes are regularly held.

Until 1999, there was no central museum among the attractions of Elektrostal in the Moscow Region. The expositions were exhibited in schools, the house of culture, in factory museums. The city was closed, so there was no large influx of tourists and visitors. The appearance of the historical and art museum made it possible for residents and guests of the city to learn a lot of useful information about their native land, the formation of the production process, and the difficult years of the war. The exposition consists of paintings by local artists, historical artifacts, household items, documents, books and much more. The collection is updated regularly. It also hosts outdoor exhibitions, which are always popular with the townspeople.

One of the main attractions of Elektrostal, the photo of which is available to almost every resident or visitor, is the Main Alley. On herpassers-by like to stroll along shady paths, townspeople rest by the fountain after a hard shift at the plant. Flower beds are the decoration of the alley. In 2006, a flower festival was held here for the first time, which has become traditional. Each enterprise of the city and private individuals give residents a real composition of fresh flowers, which pleases with bright colors all summer long. A riot of colors, aromas and a flight of fantasy reigns here. Walking through the park, you can see Snow White with a basket, a bright well, a multi-tiered cake made from fresh flowers, hearts of lovers or a fabulous house. It is almost impossible not to take a photo against the background of these compositions.

There is a cultural center in the city. It hosts performances by local creative teams and visiting stars, performances and circus performances.

In 1971, the ice palace "Crystal" was opened in the city. Almost immediately, a children's and youth hockey team was organized, which gained sports fame. This is the home sports arena for the Elektrostal hockey team. Matches of different levels are held on the ice.

There are sections for children who go in for hockey or figure skating. Citizens come here with their families to cheer for their favorite team or go ice skating.

Elektrostal is a city with a heroic past. During the war years, more than 12 thousand citizens came to the recruiting station and went to the front to defend their homeland. Almost 4 thousand of them did not return from the battle. To these heroesdedicated to the memorial complex with the inextinguishable Eternal Flame, opened in 1968

But the electricians took part in the war in Afghanistan and Chechnya. By decision of the city authorities, their memory is also immortalized in the memorial complex.

It has become a good tradition for newlyweds to lay flowers at this monument.

In 1999, a museum and exhibition complex was opened in the city, where, in addition to the exhibition hall, there are numerous circles for children, classes for young people, and a creative workshop. Various festivals, exhibitions, city holidays and other events are held within the walls and on the territory of the complex, which attract many spectators.

Listing the sights of Elektrostal, it is impossible not to mention the temples. There are several of them in the city: the church of St. John of Kronstadt, St. Andrew's Church, the hospital church of St. Panteleimon. Another new church is being built. In appearance, the temples look ancient, monumental, in the Novgorod style. But they were all built at the end of the 20th century.

Let there be no ancient artifacts among the sights of Elektrostal. But on the other hand, all of them are connected with the history of the city, with everyday work and military exploits of ordinary residents.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

Moscow subways are very clean

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

8. Mayakovskaya Metro Station built in 1938. It was named after Russian poet Vladmir Mayakovsky. This is one of the most beautiful metro stations in the world with 34 mosaics painted by Alexander Deyneka.

9. Belorusskaya Metro Station is named after the people of Belarus. In the picture below, there are statues of 3 members of the Partisan Resistance in Belarus during World War II. The statues were sculpted by Sergei Orlov, S. Rabinovich and I. Slonim.

Like a scene straight out of the movie “Eloise at the Plaza,” sip on afternoon tea under the soaring stained-glass dome of The Palm Court in New York City’s iconic Plaza Hotel. The historic hotel has been serving afternoon tea for more than 115 years in an elegant affair that requires formal attire.

Kids are welcome, and there’s even a specific version of the menu with an Eloise theme available to children under 13.

Tea is a classy affair at Claridge’s, a British landmark that began operations in 1856. Tea is served in The Foyer & Reading Room alongside a classic combination of finger sandwiches, scones and pastries. It’s all served on fine bone china and silverware, made specifically for Claridge’s.

On weekends, the H Tasting Lounge at The Westin Bayshore, Vancouver transforms into the Hundred Acre Wood. And though Westin is Marriott’s wellness-focused brand , this particular hotel equates wellness with whimsy thanks to its Winnie the Pooh-inspired afternoon tea.

You might channel your inner bear and drizzle honey in your cup, and much of the food is honey-infused, too. That includes a snack tray dubbed “Pooh’s Pot of Gold” featuring cotton candy with honey crystals. Savory dishes include honey-smoked salmon and salad with honey-poached chicken. One of the desserts is a meringue whipped to resemble a beehive, served with — what else? — honey mousse.

The Oberoi Udaivilas sits on the banks of Lake Pichola, in Udaipur, India, a destination that ranks as one of American Express Travel's 2024 Trending Destinations . Afternoon tea at the opulent hotel is reminiscent of an English tea experience while embracing local cuisine, including shufta (a sweet dish of dry fruit, sugar and saffron) and Anjeer badam ladoo (fig and almond sweet dumplings).

The tea party at Baccarat Hotel offers another option for afternoon tea in NYC. And some of the packages — which are named for historical, royal personalities — are ultra-luxurious.

The “Princess of Monaco - Grace Kelly” package goes for $125. Meanwhile, bigger spenders might splurge on the “King Louis XV Caviar Tea,” which costs as much as $450, depending on the type of caviar you choose.

The cheapest package is designed for kids and inspired by “The Little Prince.” For $85, the tea service includes chicken and waffles, apple cider doughnuts and a mini-lobster roll.

The Marriott-owned Ballantyne touts its classic Southern hospitality, but its tea service embraces Western Europe. You sip tea from London-based Rare Tea Co. and nosh on French macarons.

Plus, the Ballantyne occasionally hosts themed tea service, like the “Bridgerton” afternoon tea party inspired by the Netflix hit series. There, English Regency attire is encouraged.

In a city known for alcoholic beverages, Las Vegas offers a fair amount of tea. That’s particularly relevant as more young people cut back on alcohol. Just 62% of Americans ages 18 to 34 say they drink, according to a Gallup Consumptions Habits survey of 1,015 adults conducted in July 2023. That’s down from 72% two decades ago.

For tea on the Las Vegas Strip, visit Petrossian Bar at Bellagio Hotel & Casino, which features a live pianist tickling the ivories on a grand piano.

For a whimsical experience, head to the Sanderson hotel in London. Inspired by “Alice in Wonderland,” the menu includes a sandwich filled with smoked carrots and seaweed creme mousse called “The Cheshire Cat.” There’s also a White Rabbit-inspired carrot cake on the menu.

Unlike many of the other hoity-toity tea parties on this list, afternoon tea here is a more casual affair, with no fancy dress required.

While delightful, splurging on a fancy hotel tea party is typically not cheap. Here are some ways to save:

In a Rare Interview, a Former Royal Aide Opens Up About Life at the Palace

Samantha Cohen worked closely with royals including Queen Elizabeth, Prince Harry, and Meghan Markle, for almost 20 years.

For starters, Cohen spoke highly of the late Queen Elizabeth as an employer, and even even revealed that she had her own room at the royal residence. “I was away working a lot with a young family but the Queen made it easy, if there was an evening function I’d stay over and sleep in my own bedroom at Windsor so I didn’t have to drive back to London at night," she said told the publication. "Both my grandparents love [when things go wrong]," William said, "because you can imagine they live a life where everything has to go right the whole time, so when things go wrong, they both chuckle an awful lot. Everyone else gets mortally embarrassed, but they love it."

Cohen was so close with the late queen, that she was often photographed traveling with the royal. She later worked on a team for Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, before they stepped back from their roles as working royals, and even accompanied them on their 2019 royal tour of South Africa.

Of course, it wasn't all laughs managing the royal goings-on. In fact, Cohen was once dubbed "Samantha the Panther" by the media for rejecting a celebrity would-be-guest. “The name came about when I was in a junior position at Buckingham Palace and overseeing an event with high profile celebrities when an agent called asking if someone was on the guest list and I said ‘sorry they’re not’," she explained, "They kept phoning back and I said ‘I’m sorry we can’t invite everyone’. The next day I was in the press. I hadn’t shouted. If anything I was new and trying hard to be nice.”
