travel talk egypt tour review

An honest review of Travel Talk Tours; Egypt and Jordan

Hello friends! It’s been a while. We’ve been some busy little travelers this past year that we’ve been away. We have a quite a bit to catch up on, that’s for sure! We’re gonna make this first blog post fairly simple. We’ll get into the nitty gritty details in the next few posts about our recent trip to Egypt, Jordan, and Israel. For today, I just want to get started on a little review of the company we chose for that trip – Travel Talk Tours .

We ended up choosing to do a tour of Egypt and Jordan, then traveled through Israel on our own. We’ve never done a tour before, but it seemed like an easy choice for this trip since there is SO much to see. Visiting Egypt has been a childhood dream of mine. It just seemed like such a daunting task trying to fit everything. There is a lot to do and see in these countries. Since it is a much different type of trip than visiting somewhere like Europe, it gave us peace of mind having the transportation and planning figured out for us.

We’re very glad we ended up doing a tour and 100% recommend seeing this part of the world in this way. We brought along two friends on this trip and I think we all agree that this was the trip of a freaking lifetime ! It was so fun to experience it all with each other! If you’re on the fence about visiting any of these 3 countries, I can confidently say that you should definitely GO!

Since I couldn’t find a ton of resources on this specific tour, I’ll breakdown what we did, how much it cost us, and all the things I wish we would have known ahead of time. I hope this is helpful and I hope one day you all make it to see this part of our world!

Travel Talk

We chose Travel Talk Tours for our Egypt and Jordan adventures. We ended up going with them for a couple of reasons.

They offered the most options when it came to itineraries and the routes that they followed throughout Egypt and Jordan.

They cater to a younger, more adventurous crowd which appealed to us since we love meeting other likeminded travelers. Their demographic is 18-39, although we did have a couple travelers who went over this age range. They got along just fine, so if you happen to not meet that age criteria, don’t let it deter you!

The other reason is their price point. Travel Talk’s base price is pretty cheap for what is offered. They basically cover all hotel rooms, breakfasts, and the transportation between stops. Compared to a few other tour companies this is the best bang for your buck. We’ll get more into the pricing in a bit.

Egyptian Hieroglyphics

We chose the 15 day Egypt and Jordan discovered by Nile Cruise . We were choosing between the Nile Cruise and the Felucca tour and we’re VERY grateful we went with the cruise. I’ll definitely go in to more detail in the next post about our actual days spent in Egypt, but lets just say that when we were all needing a toilet every 15 minutes, it was really nice to retreat to our own room to do so. 🙂 The felucca is basically a sailboat that they turn into a big bed that sleeps 10-15 people. A lot of our group went with the felucca and loved it, although it was a bit more of a rugged experience. The bathroom is located on a little motor boat that follows the felucca and will come close when you need it. The felucca group did get to swim in the Nile and have beach bonfires, so it just really depends on what kind of experience you want.

Egypt Cruise

The accommodations of Travel Talk are exceptionally nice and most of them are 3-5 star hotels. A few of the places we stayed were the nicest hotels we had ever been to. Which was a nice surprise because I’ll be honest – I didn’t expect that in Egypt. A lot of our preconceived ideas about the country were shattered, in the best way!

We started in Cairo and ended in Amman, Jordan. We spent 11 days in Egypt – about 9 days on the Africa side and 2 days on the Asia side on the Sinai Peninsula. Then we journeyed to Jordan for the last 4 days. Although there’s always places you wish you had a little extra time in, I think this amount of time in each place was really adequate for all the major sites and monuments. Here’s a look at how our route went with the number of days we spent at each stop.

Along with that, they do a great job of showing you all the touristy and famous sites, along with experiences you wouldn’t normally know about or see online. They mix the tourist and local stuff really well to make it still feel like you’re getting a unique experience instead of a super generic tour. For example, we went to a lot of local bazaars and had dinner with local families. For the price, we felt like we got the most convenient and compre hensive tour of Egypt and Jordan.

Price Breakdown

Travel Talk actually does a decent amount of discounted pricing throughout the year and it’s worth it to wait for that. We bought our tour when they were doing a 2 for 1 sale, which gave us a significant discount. I recommend signing up for their email subscription so you know when their next sale is coming. We got our tours for $1260 per person, saving us almost $500 on each tour. On top of this price we paid $250 per person in cash when we checked into Cairo. I’m still unsure what this totally went to, although it was described online as a local payment.

The pricing of our same tour is currently $1700, but now includes the local payment. The biggest thing to note is that the tour is not all inclusive. It doesn’t include any of your entrance tickets, meals outside of breakfast, tips, visa, or transportation to the airport. This isn’t the case for all of the tours, so look into the fine print when deciding on which suits you best. We didn’t have to figure out our transportation from the Cairo airport to our first hotel, but did find transportation out of Jordan. Make sure to factor a taxi price into your budget as well.

I’ll be completely honest, there was a lot of extras that we paid for on our own. There was about 6 optional activities in Egypt and 4 in Jordan. We knew we probably wouldn’t be back to this area for a while so we partook in everything! This added to the feeling that everything was a “once in a lifetime” thing. We did almost every single activity and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend you do the same! Be prepared to pay a decent amount on top of your base tour price and budget for the extra expense. If you’re a single person, it won’t be as bad. As a couple we paid quite a bit more than we had initially anticipated – but still recommend doing everything extra!

Hot Air Balloon Ride

We paid for all of our lunches and most of our dinners, averaging about $10-12 per person per meal. Breakfasts were almost always provided and they were always a large spread. Our cruise meals were included, so for 3 days we didn’t worry about buying any meals.

Another thing we didn’t initially realize we were paying for was our entrance tickets to the monuments. This ended up being a pretty significant amount of money. Again, if you know how much to budget for it, it doesn’t have to seem like so much. That’s why we’re here to help, since we had literally no idea what we needed to save!

On our first night in Cairo, we were given a list of the optional activities that we paid for in advance that night. As well as paying for the activities, Travel Talk also collects a mandatory tip for the hotel staff and the drivers. This goes for Egypt and Jordan. At the end of our time in Egypt, we gave a cash tip to our guide Mo and another cash tip to our guide in Jordan. Although this is technically optional to tip your tour guide, we recommend budgeting this in because your guide is well deserving! It’s up to you how much to tip, although Travel Talk recommends $3-5 a day as a fair price.

Backsheesh In Egypt, NOTHING is free. Culturally, there is a tipping system called the backsheesh. You will hear it for just about everything. Someone opens the door for you, tip. Someone offers to take your photo in front of a monument, tip. It can be really overwhelming and at times pretty annoying, but it’s part of the Egyptian culture! We just made sure to ask Mo when it was actually appropriate and when we should give someone a backsheesh. Make sure to keep some small bills and coins on you when the backsheesh occasion occurs.

Price  Breakdown Per Person Tour: $1260 Local Payment: $250 Travel Insurance: $182

Egypt   Visas: $25  Entrance Fees: $140 Optional Activities: $360 Meals : $60 Snacks/Alcohol: $68 Souvenirs: $55 Tips: $80 Approximate Egypt Total: $758

* Approximate Total per person : $2,802 – this will depend on the extras you choose, souvenirs, etc. and doesn’t include your flights!

Having a guide

This one doesn’t need too much explaining. A guide felt essential, especially in Egypt and was also nice in Jordan. We just couldn’t have gotten the same background history on our own. Our experience in Egypt really wouldn’t have been the same without our tour guide, Mo. He was local to the area, born and raised in Aswan and had studied immensely to be a tour guide. We got to explore a lot more on our own in Jordan but our guide Osama was very helpful when it came to the history of the country and the attractions we visited.

Tour size vs. group size

This one is a little hard to explain but I’ll try my best. Since there are so many different options for tours, Travel Talk breaks people up in to smaller groups based on your itinerary. Lets say there was 100 of us that started our journey in Cairo all together. We got broken up into 3 groups – A, B, and C – of around 30 people. Most of our group (B) was on the same tour through Egypt, but some split up before we headed to Jordan. Some people from group C ended up on our Jordan tour – so we got new friends for that leg of the trip. This smaller size group ensured none of us could really get lost and we got a more intimate experience with our guide and each other.

Having the itinerary taken care of/ease of travel

I mentioned this above already, but it cannot be understated. Egypt was a daunting place to plan and the fact there was an itinerary that felt just for us was amazing. Our itinerary hit everything I wanted to see and even things I didn’t know I would’ve missed seeing. The fact that all of our inner city and inner country transportation was taken care of gave us total peace of mind. Especially since the public transportation is basically non existent. Having a nice air conditioned bus in 100 degree weather was the cherry on top.

We felt very safe

This could have been due to the fact we had a really nice bus (the nicest out of all 3 groups!) or maybe that we had a security guard on board with us at all times. Either way, Egypt and Jordan were both 10 times more safe than we anticipated. Cairo was probably the place we felt most unsafe – but in a city of 21 million people, I think that’s normal. We also had a full blown police escort when the 3 tour groups caravanned to southern Egypt and back. The Egyptian Tourism Board actually requires this for tour groups. They are definitely taking precautions to make tourists feel safe!

Meeting new people while still getting privacy

You guys know we are big proponents of hostels, we love them. We love the experience that hostels bring us getting to meet new people. This tour gave us the luxury of having our own room but still getting that hostel style experience with our group mates. This was probably one our favorite elements of the tour. If you’re a single on this tour, Travel Talk will bunk you up with another single, most of the time. Maybe you’ll get lucky and get your own room for a night or two! Either way, everyone will be meeting up in the common areas to hang out so you’ll get a chance to meet new people no matter what.

The extra expenses

This can be avoided when you know ahead of time how much to budget or at least a ballpark range. You also don’t have to partake in every optional activity and can save money by not doing lunches with the group. We recommend not doing that, but if you’re really on a tight budget it might help.

The time spent traveling between places

This just comes with the type of trip this is. I’m not sure there’s a way to avoid this unless you have an unlimited amount of time to visit these countries. Even then, you’re probably not interested in doing a tour if that was the case.

Not enough time in some of the monuments

This one comes with the territory too. It’s already hard to herd a group of 30 or so people through a monument. Then add the time explaining to them the vast history and then also giving them free time to explore on their own. We spent extra time in some places we wish we didn’t and didn’t get enough in the places we really wanted. Sometimes it just works like that. Our guide was really gracious to our group and let us go off on our own if we didn’t want to listen to his explanation. He always gave us a time to be back at the bus and let us make our own decisions.

Final Thoughts

Go in with an open mind! Like I mentioned above, sometimes we can’t get the best of both worlds. Yes we spend a lot more time in the bus than we initially anticipated, but your options are seeing the most you can or spending an extended amount of time in Egypt. Given the timeframe, we had to maximize our time the best we could. This also goes with your preconceived ideas about the country of Egypt itself. We had our own ideas about its safety, culture, people, religion, etc. We learned a LOT and we’re really grateful we had a local guide to show us the good, bad, and ugly of his country. He really changed our view of the Egyptian people.

Egypt and Jordan are both Muslim countries. If you’ve followed this blog or know Kenny and I at all, you know we love to find the best local beer when we travel. This was probably the biggest culture shock we experienced – alcohol is almost NON EXISTENT. Egyptians smoke like its a national pastime, but you won’t find a corner bar anywhere in the country. Now, they know that most tourists aren’t Muslim. There are duty free stores to buy booze, open at very specific times. For certain times, like the cruise or felucca, your guide will get a list of alcohol you want and bring it for your convenience to enjoy. Don’t plan on finding anything you’re used to in the States, and to be honest, don’t even plan on liking what you’re drinking. But if you really have a hankering for a beer or liquor, there will be at least one option from the duty free stores. Just something to be aware of, since it was very different than anywhere we’d ever been. We’re gonna talk a lot more about this in our podcast episode on Egypt, coming soon!

If you’re on the fence between the Nile Cruise and the Felucca, I’d still say go with the Cruise. Most of our group went with the Felucca and had a great time, but we loved our intimate and relaxing time on the river boat. The felucca is definitely a very unique activity, but if having a bathroom close by is important to you, go with the cruise. We might have missed the beach bonfires but I think we got just as fun of an experience with the cruise staff and small group activities.

Do all the optional activities! A lot of them are things you might not ever get to do again in your life so why not live it up while you’re here!

At some point during your time in Egypt, you will probably get sick. Almost everyone on our tour got sick. Drink only bottled water and for the first couple days try not to eat anything raw or uncooked. Travel insurance was mandatory on our tour but I’m so glad we had it just in case. We went with World Nomads and definitely recommend having insurance for this trip!

Traveling to Egypt with Travel Talk Tours: A Review

Egypt: an ancient land of mystery and monuments dating back thousands of years. I have always dreamed of seeing the pyramids and the mummies that once resided inside burial chambers, so when I saw a deal for a tour on TourRadar  for a ‘Felucca Odyssey' tour through Travel Talk Tours, I immediately jumped at the chance to finally jet off to see what would prove to be an amazing country.

Egypt Travel Talk

Travel Talk Tours

The tour I found on TourRadar was through a company called Travel Talk . Travel Talk operates tours in many countries throughout the world and happened to be having a sale during the time I was looking to go to Egypt. After reading numerous positive reviews, I booked a trip and eagerly counted down the days until my departure.

I had never before traveled to a country with a tour group. Usually, I spend a lot of time carefully researching what to do, where to stay and how to travel between the destinations and sights I would like to see. I must admit, I was a little excited to leave all the planning in someone else's hands, knowing from reviews that I would be covering a lot of ground during my trip, which included all of the places I wanted to see (mainly the pyramids) and some I did not know much about (ever heard of Edfu Temple?).

Egypt Travel Talk

Travel Talk did a great job of answering any questions I had prior to my departure. They secured my arrival details in order to provide me complimentary pick up at the airport (yessssss no haggling with a taxi driver!?!) and sent me a pre-departure brochure that detailed aspects of the trip such as the culture I could expect to encounter, the food I would be eating, as well as how much money to bring with me for shopping and paying for entrance fees to various monuments.

Travel Talk Tours has a unique payment option in order to help younger people and travelers on a budget afford to travel by splitting the payments into several parts: a deposit to hold the spot on the tour, a second part prior to arrival and a third part open arrival in the destination. This was a great option for me as it provided a way for me to raise the funds over time as opposed to paying for everything up front. They also had optional activities throughout the trip that I could choose to pay for once I arrived if they interested me, but were in no way required (though I opted to take part in almost all of them – who knows when I will be back in Egypt!).

The Schedule

Once I arrived in Egypt with my boyfriend (the trip was a surprise birthday gift for him… I know, I know I am the best), a Travel Talk representative met us at the arrivals gate. He brought us to the parking lot where a driver was there ready to bring us to the hotel. At the hotel, we paid the rest of our payment and received the schedule for the next 9 days. Below is the basic outline of Travel Talk's Felucca Odyssey Tour:

Egypt Travel Talk

Day 1: Arrival and Group info meeting. Optional Dinner Cruise on the Nile with a Belly Dancing Show and Buffet Dinner.

Day 2: Sakkarra Step Pyramid Tour & a visit to the Pyramids of Giza. Optional choice to ride a camel. Visit to a traditional Egyptian Essence & Perfume Gallery. Drive to Luxor.

Day 3: Visit to the Valley of the Kings and Queen Hatshepsut Temple. Visit to traditional Alabaster Factory. Drive to Aswan. Optional Diner in a Nubian Village.

Day 4: Optional trip to Abu Simbel (my whole tour group went! Recommended!), Sight seeing of High Dam and Philae Temple. Get on board Felucca boat!

Day 5: All day sailing down the Nile! Super chill and relaxed. Bonfire on the beach with the crew and African drumming at night!

Day 6: Say goodbye to Felucca and its crew. Visit Kolombo and Edfu Temple during drive north to Luxor. Luxor Temple by Night.

Traveling with a Group: The Pros

This was my first trip on a group tour, so I was a little nervous at first about how it would go. Below I list some of the positive aspects of group travel.

Ease & Convenience:

Numerous Activities:

Transport & Accommodation:

Not having to thing about how we were getting form point A to point B might have been another one of my favorite things about traveling in the tour. When visiting certain countries in the past, I have had to sometimes be on my guard about taxi drivers trying to rip me off or spending a long time going back and forth due to a language barrier. Having a driver to drop us off and pick us up from each spot was really convenient.  It was also nice not thinking about where we would stay every night. All of the hotels on the tour were either 4 or 5 star accommodations and very comfortable. It made it one less thing to think about prior to leaving for the trip!

Traveling with a Group: The Cons

While my first experience traveling on a group tour was mostly positive, it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows. Here are a few from the negative side.

Final Thoughts

While I did, at times, wish I had more freedom during the trip and fell into bed exhausted each night after busy days, overall I would highly recommend this tour! It was a unique experience and an adventure that I will not soon forget! Travel Talk took very good care of everyone throughout the duration of our time in the country. We were all able to see, do, and learn so much about the incredible country of Egypt!

Nice article. Im concerned about toilets and specially on the sail boat, do they have one? Is toilet a big problem on having a tour?

There was no toilet on the sailboat, but we had another boat traveling with us that did have a toilet and showers. When we had to use the restroom during the sail, we could change over to that one. It wasn’t an issue at all.

Loved your post! Egypt is certainly a fascinating country, so much history and interesting places to visit. I also did a tour with Travel Talk Tours and my experience was incredible, I found the itinerary, visits and accommodation top-notch, glad to see that you enjoyed your visit as well!

I’ve actually written a post on my own blog about my recent experience, if you’d like to check it out:

TREKwithBECK

An Honest Travel Talk Tours Review

Are you looking to book a tour with Travel Talk Tours ? Read this first.

I am not one to usually book a tour and would much rather explore a country at my own pace and to my own itinerary. However, with the desire to go to Egypt and Jordan, I decided it was best to book a tour. Based on what I had heard about safety concerns from other travellers.

After much research I stumbled across Travel Talk tours, which offered a great range of tours travelling through both areas. I also read a few reviews online, which gave me confidence in the company. After reading the itineraries, I decided this was the company for me.

This blog post will contain my full review on my experience with Travel Talk tours, and whether I would recommend them to others. I am not being paid or sponsored to write this post.

Travel Talk Tours

Table of Contents

Who are Travel Talk Tours?

Travel Talk tours are a UK based company, offering unique experiences all around the world. They have a large range of itineraries for most countries, meaning there is plenty to suit any traveller. They also use local guides, to offer a more authentic experience.

They cater to the ages of 18+ with their tours ranging from adventure to laid back. The group size is usually around 10-30 people. And from what I experienced; they are not a party tour company like Contiki!

When and Where did I go?

I booked the “Fantastic Jordan and Egypt” tour, which was an 18-day tour, travelling through Jordan and Egypt. I went on this tour on the off season, during the months of May and early June.

How Were the Guides?

Our guide for Jordan was simply fantastic. Omar was full of knowledge, had a great sense of humour but was also very caring of everyone on the tour. One person got sick, and another had blisters on their feet, he made sure they were well looked after and had everything they needed to get better.

Sometimes it’s hard to make history interesting, but he managed to do this! He also made the handling of payments for extras, tipping and much more very easy. Which takes a lot of stress out of a holiday.

Adham was our guide for Egypt, and he has some incredible knowledge! It was great having a guide you could ask almost any question and they would have an answer for you. Although he cared about the group, it was a little less than the Jordan side. This I can understand as the group for Egypt was twice the size of Jordans.

Adham did do an excellent job of accommodating for my friend and I when it came to vegetarian meals, which was very appreciated! Sometimes meaning searching for some falafel sandwiches when we couldn’t eat much at buffets. He also did help with extra things like helping plan transport outside the tour, which is always helpful! Overall, he too was a fantastic guide.

Travel Talk Tours

Was the Price Reasonable?

Overall, I thought the price was very reasonable for what I was getting. I essentially explored all of Jordan and Egypt in one tour, and we packed a lot in! Could of I gotten it cheaper if I did I by myself? Most likely. But I wouldn’t of the got the information I got on this tour.

The entry fees and extra activities are not included in the price, which did end up making this a bit more costly. The entry fees for Egypt are quite pricey and unfortunately you don’t get a choice if you’d like to visit a spot or not.

I paid $3673 AUD for the whole tour. This included:

  • All accommodation, in 4& 5-star resorts
  • Airport transfers
  • 2 internal flights: Amman to Jordan and Dahab to Cairo
  • All transport: buses, trains and a felucca
  • 17 breakfasts, 3 lunches and 4 dinners

What was the Transport like?

Transport was perfectly fine in both countries. Both buses had A/C, charging points and the bus in Jordan even had free WIFI! The buses were very comfortable, even for the 4am starts or overnight trips.

The overnight trains were well overnight trains! They were clean and had good service, it was an efficient way to get from one place to another. The airline used was Air Cairo, which is your basic internal airline. We got 23kg of luggage for these internal flights.

My only negative with the transport was there a lack in communication with when my internal flights were. I had to email Traveltalk multiple times to get my flight information. For my final flight I was told it wasn’t included during my tour, which set me into a panic to try and organise. Later being told that it was. So, the communication part, may need a little more work.

What was the Accommodation like?

The accommodation all round was very nice! If you are used to travelling as a backpacker and staying in hostels, this will be very luxe for you. Some of the hotels had incredible views and facilities. They were all in pretty good locations, had good security and comfortable beds. All of the hotels had AC and private bathrooms.

The best accommodation was in Luxor.  This was luxe . There are also several amazing restaurants in the complex, the Thai food was mouth-watering.

travel talk egypt tour review

  • Everything is organised for your, which is actually a nice way to travel. Just make sure you are on the bus on time!
  • You get very knowledgeable guides.
  • Cultural experiences. You will get to experience some things and places which you probably wouldn’t if you travelled by yourself.
  • Ease of transport and comfort.
  • You get the chance to meet some incredible people from all over the world. I actually made some of the best friends on this trip and created some incredible friends!
  • You don’t have to organise ticket entries, as the guides do this for you. They also handle all of the tipping with a tipping kitty paid at the start of the tour.
  • SIM cards were organised for us in Egypt, which made life so much easier.
  • Long bus rides, this is going to happen regardless, as the travel times are long.
  • You don’t get a choice whether you want to visit somewhere or not. Some days you just want to stay in a hotel room and relax, you don’t get this option.
  • Long days. You see a lot on this tour, which means there is little down time.
  • Early morning starts. If you enjoy a sleep in, you won’t get many on this tour!
  • Not much choice on where to eat. Most nights you can choose where you want dinner, but if it’s during the day – you will go where the tour goes. This is usually a buffet which is at ‘tourist prices’.
  • The tour is very fast paced. You also don’t get an option on how long you want to spend at a place. For the pyramids we only had 1hr, which wasn’t enough time.

Overall Opinion?

I would book a tour with Travel Talk again and I am not a tour person! It does help with comfort and ease, especially in a country where there may be safety concerns or a language barrier.

You do need to weigh up the positives and negatives. I personally wouldn’t choose a tour over travelling independently, but I would choose travel talk tours if I was going to go on a tour again. The guides, accommodation, transport, and overall service was very good. They also regularly have sales, so you can get tours at great prices! This was by far one of the better tour companies I have used.

In short, I would recommend Traveltalk tours to a friend.

It’s the perfect choice if you want to see all of the top attractions in Egypt for a budget price in just over one week in Egypt.

I had the best time on this trip and definitely left feeling like I had thoroughly explored a new country and made new friends and new memories along the way, so here’s what I got up to and here’s my Felucca Odyssey Talk Talk Tour Egypt Review!

Felucca Odyssey Talk Talk Tour Egypt Review

Felucca Odyssey Talk Talk Tour Egypt Review

Technically I arrived on Day 0 as I left the UK early Friday morning and arrived Friday evening 24 hours before the official tour started on Saturday.

I knew we would be met by a Travel Talks representative but I thought they would be waiting for us once we had collected our bags etc, instead they were waiting before the immigration section to take the money for our visa, go to the counter for us and come back with the visa in our passport.. super easy and helpful!

After collecting our bags we started the 45 minute journey to the hotel. We cruised a long the highway (except for when we were stuck in traffic) and marvelled at all of the glitzy shopping malls with Western brands and advertisements that surrounded us and in between these were huge amount of half built, abandoned looking flat blocks, I wasn’t sure what I expected of Cairo but I don’t think it was this.

Of course, the other thing that made us realise straight away that we were no longer in the ‘West’ was the driving! Whole families were crammed into small cars and vans and switching between lanes like mad. (I was later told that lines on the road were put on because they looked nice but no one followed them and red lights are seen only as a suggestion in Egypt! haha)

Olivia who I was travelling with and I arrived at the Pyramids Park Resort Hotel and straight away we knew that we wouldn’t be staying in our usual budget, backpacker level accommodation and instead would feel very much like flash packers, even holidaymakers! We were met by another Travel Talk Representative and then taken to our room, we had dinner in the hotel restaurant and then after a full day of travel got into our comfy beds!

Everything You Need to Know to Prep for Travel Talk’s Felucca Odyssey Tour in Egypt!

Day 1

Because myself an my friend had arrived early we spent the day in Cairo with a friend who lived there, this extra day on our Egypt itinerary was actually so valuable and I’m so glad we got to see Cairo for the day on our own before the tour started.

As 18:00 approached the hotel lobby became very full with all of our fellow travellers ready to start our Felucca Odyssey Tour with Travel Talk Tours. We got to view which group we would be in. Our overall group was huge with 100 people in total split into 3 groups, when I heard this I was a little worried there would be too many of us but the 3 groups were doing slightly different trips so it was ok.

We then had a 30 minute briefing where we met the tour guides (my guide was Zizo who was nothing short of incredible!) and they explained what would be happening over the next week and gave us some tips on Egypt which got us very excited!

Afterwards there was an optional extra to go to a buffet dinner on a boat on the river nile with belly dancers. I was super tired after a busy day in Cairo and with an early start approaching decided to get some rest instead.

After a full buffet breakfast, checking out and having left our luggage in the store room of the hotel we boarded our bus nice and early at 7:00am! The Travel Talk hotel is super close to the Pyramids so we got a great view of them but they were our second stop of the day, the first was to Sakkara and to the world-famous Step Pyramid of Djoser , the first Pyramid made in Egypt about 4700 years ago!

Due to leaving the hotel early we were the first tour group there, this is something that Travel Talk tries really hard to do throughout the trip and I quickly realised I’d rather get up an hour early and have these places to ourselves than not.

We had plenty of time for photos and we even got to go inside one Pyramid! Here however, we also got our first taste of the people who work around the sights trying to get us to take photos with them for money, buy trinkets and offering horse, camel and donkey rides.

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

The next stop was the Great Pyramids of Giza ! First though we had to get there, the drive is about an hour from Sakkara and a long the way we started to see the real Cairo.

Rubbish is a huge issue here and our guide explained that primarily its due to a lack of education. Locals can be told not to just throw rubbish on the floor but they need to first understand why this is not right and the consequences, knowledge that we take for granted in our Western educated Countries I think.

Working donkeys and horses are a common thing in Cairo and in Egypt in general, being a horse lover I found this hard to see and a couple of us on the bus also saw 2 dead horses on the side of the road. But to me, as sad and helpless as you feel this is what travel is all about, it’s seeing what really happens in day to day life in other countries and cultures and although part of me was surprised that the government hadn’t at least cleaned up the road that leads to the Pyramids which all tourists are guaranteed to travel up I’m glad that they hadn’t just to ‘impress’ tourists as this would have been a fake view of Cairo.

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

The Pyramids were pretty busy when we arrived but definitely not as busy as I’m sure they get. We had 5 minutes at the base of the Pyramids where Zizo talked us through some history but unfortunately we didn’t get any photo or exploring time (the only thing I was dissapointed about), instead we drove straight to the viewpoint where we could take photos with all 3 Pyramids and gave us a great panoramic view.

There was also the option to do a 20 minute camel ride for an extra cost and a row of stalls selling the usual tourist bits. After this we drove straight to the Sphinx and again after a quick bit of history we were able to have a look around and get that oh so famous kissing the Sphinx photo with the Pyramids in the background.

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

Lunch is not included in the Felucca Odyssey Tour cost on most days but a stop is included, we had lunch a restaurant close by which included dips, pitta, salads and BBQ meat.

Before heading back to the hotel we visited the first of a few government shops that are included in the Egypt itinerary, the first being a perfume shop. I’ve been to a few places like this in other countries and they can be pretty boring however the owner was very funny and kept us entertained whilst also selling a few people some scents.

We made our way back to the hotel where we paid for our optional extras for the upcoming week, had the chance to buy a local sim as the wifi isn’t that great and also get changed into some comfy clothes for the 10 hour journey to Luxor that was ahead of us!

Our journey included some chip and falafel pitta’s, a police convey to (thankfully) shorten the journey, a half way stop at a random gas station and a bit of sleep, we arrived in Luxor at 1:30am and after checking into the Steigenberger Nile Palace hotel which was very nice sleep was the first thing on the agenda.

Meeting at 7:30am in the hotel lobby having had a few hours sleep, breakfast and checked out was an insight as to how our sleep patterns would carry on for the rest of the week but there was no time to complain as after an hour drive we were arriving at the Valley of the Kings .

No photos are allowed here but we spent 2 hours exploring incredible tombs which had been found and wondering how the hell the Egyptians managed to do this, seeing inside the tombs is actually when I had my first real realisation of ‘wow I’m in Egypt!’.

We then had our second government stop which was an Alabaster store where they made vases and other items, the guys gave us another funny intro about what they made and then we had time to look around without being too pressurised.

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

Our next stop was Hatshepsut Temple (pronounced as either Hat Sheep Suit quickly or mispronounced as Hot Chicken Soup haha), this temple was built for one of the few female rulers and is rated one of the most striking monuments in Ancient Egypt. By now my phone was showing temperatures of 36° so an hour walking around was more than enough.

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

We had another good buffet lunch out on the deck of a restaurant and afterwards we started the journey further south to Aswan.

Zizo had told us that there was a quick route to Aswan- 3-4 hours or a longer route. The quick route however depended on the police not realising that our coach was a tourist coach so we had to close all the curtains and hope they didn’t see on one of the checks, if they did then we’d have to re-route onto another road which would take longer.

Luckily we were fine, the journey took 4 hours and we arrived as the sun was going down which provided a pretty spectacular view from our rooms at our 3rd lovely hotel – the Helnan Hotel.

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

We had the chance to book onto a Nubian Dinner experience this evening on the Travel Talk Tour. Nubian people are an ethic group that originated in Sudan and Egypt so an evening with them is a good way to see an example of a family home, some local food and hear a bit more about them so after an hour relaxing in the hotel most of us in the group were boarding a boat down the River Nile with a beer in our hand.

The climate was very different to our evening in Cairo, it was a lot more tropical and getting off the boat onto the sand roads leading to the dinner actually felt like I was in South East Asia or on a Caribbean Island!

We had a good evening, I had some henna done (which lasted a week!) and at the end the family played some music and it suddenly turned into a party! I personally I wasn’t a huge fan of the food and we were told that we would get back to the hotel at 9:00pm ish however didn’t get back until 10:00pm but I’m still glad I went.

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

The reason I wanted to get back earlier the night before was because my alarm went off at 3:45am ready to meet the group all checked out at 4:15am(!!) to make the 4 hour journey even further south (we pretty much covered the length of Egypt on this trip) to Abu Simbel Temple , only 50km away from the Sudan border.

Although the Pyramids are the most famous attraction in Egypt if you’ve seen a photo of somewhere else in Egypt then it’s most likely to have been from Abu Simbel. There are 2 temples, the Great Temple and the Small Temple which were reportedly founded by Johann Ludwig Burckhardt the same person to discover Petra in Jordan!

What I found more interesting than the discovery is that in 1960 the government decided to build a dam and there were fears that the lake close to the temples would flood the temples, therefore a huge undertaking started to move both temples further up the mountain whilst keeping them in tact! The outside of the temples are huge but the inside’s are even bigger so this must have been incredibly hard!

We only spent 2 hours at Abu Simbel but it was enough, in my opinion Abu Simbel is the best Egypt Attraction and the early wake up call and extra cost was well worth it. (However the packed breakfast we were given which included about 8 bread rolls was not ha!)

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

After a sleepy 4 hour drive back to Aswan THIS IS WHEN THE EGYPT HOLIDAY PART OF THE TRIP STARTED! Up until this point as you can probably tell the trip had been very full on, not in the sense of moving from sight to sight quickly but just the overall travel and lack of sleep.

On arrival back in Aswan we had an hour to change into swimwear, have a quick chill by the pool and then board our Felucca boats which we would stay on for the next 2 nights.

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

A Felucca is a traditional wooden sailing boat which doesn’t have an engine and relies on the wind and the current. We had 11 of us per boat and the seating/ lying area is where we chilled during the day, ate and slept at night which sounds pretty intense although it wasn’t too bad.

The other thing that it doesn’t have is a toilet, I was pretty worried about this as I thought we would be sailing for long distances at a time and when you add a few beers into that equation that didn’t sound too fun, however after sailing for a short time whilst watching the sun go down we pulled up at the side of a sand dune where we spent the night. Our first priority was to find covered bushes and then to have another few beers as well as dinner.

We had 5 boats on our overall trip so it gave everyone time to mingle and have fun followed by a surprisingly comfy night on the boat.

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

If you’re already ready to check prices and availability head to the Travel Talk Website here !

I was woken up by the strong sunlight and a warming in temperature, thankfully I didn’t wake up to a huge amount of mosquito bites but some people on my boat did wake up to a lot! We were cooked breakfast by the lovely 2 local guys who worked on the boats and after one last slightly stressed toilet stop (the locals who live near by kept walking past us whenever we thought we’d found a covered spot) we were off again sailing down the nile.

This is the main day on the trip to catch a tan so we suncreamed up and chilled on the back and on the front of the boat soaking in that Vitamin D that we had been missing after the British Winter.

We stopped again after a couple of hours where we stayed for another few hours with the chance to get off the boat and chat to people on other boats as well as have some lunch and a swim in the river. After another sail we were pulling up to our spot for the night which was a long side a field with some donkeys and cows in.

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

Due to having such a chilled day everyone seemed up for chatting and drinking this night so as the night wore on a bonfire was made, some local people joined and played some music and the drinking went on into the night.

During this evening we had a lot of big cruise ships pass us by and as much I wasn’t looking forward to the basic-ness of the Felucca boat, us sitting on the side of the river with about 60 other people all having fun and being at one with nature (in more ways than one) made me realise that I was glad I chose a tour which included a Felucca ride instead of a cruise down the river which seemed rather boring and too serious for my liking.

Our wake up call was quite early this morning at about 6:30 as the crew made us breakfast and soon we were sailing to the other side of the river to meet our coach drivers and we were looking forward to the promise of a real toilet pretty soon.

Our morning stop was to Edfu Temple , to be honest before visiting I felt I could have done without visiting this temple as I was still covered in layers of sunscreen and bug spray and wearing a dress from 2 days ago but the stop was fairly quick and actually the temple was pretty good as its the best kept temple there is.

Before we knew it we were back on the bus for another 4 hour journey to Luxor as our boat ride had only taken us a short way up the Nile from Aswan.

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

This afternoon and evening was one that we had all been waiting for after a busy schedule. We checked back into the Steigenberger Nile Palace in Luxor where we actually had chance to enjoy it, we spent few hours having lunch and chilling by the pool followed by an evening in an Irish bar opposite where we had dinner and a few more beers and some rounds of pool!

Luxor temple was on our itinerary to visit the next day however the guides wanted to take advantage of the night show they do and offered us the chance to visit that evening before the Irish Bar instead. I didn’t go as I was looking forward to a relaxed evening without getting back on the coach but I did hear good things from the people who went who said it was very impressive at night with all the lights.

The optional activity this morning was a hot air balloon ride over Luxor. This is an extra cost of £80.00 and includes a 4:30am wake up call, because I had done a few hot air balloon rides before I gave it a miss but for the people who went and hadn’t done a hot air balloon ride before they seemed glad they did it, despite the landscape not being hugely impressive.

Us non-hot ballooners thought we might get a lie in this day but oh no, we were meeting in the hotel lobby after breakfast and checking out at 8:15am and then continued to Karnak Temple , one of the largest religious sites in the world. This was actually one of my favourites as it’s huge and a real example of how clever the Egyptians were, Zizo reminded us that they knew more than we know now! The colours on the walls are still in tact from 1250bc and it has the tallest surviving ancient obelisk on Earth.. pretty impressive!

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

Our third government stop was to a place where they made bamboo paper with prints on them, we were shown how they make them which was pretty interesting and we had chance to have a look around, this was probably the best shop we went to and prices started from $14 USD for a small print.

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

But of course as we were still in the South in Luxor and we were staying in Cairo that night so after lunch the 10 hour journey back up North began! This was actually one of the best bus journeys of the trip, by this point everyone in the group knew each other so we just chatted the whole way, one of the other buses broke down which added a bit of time onto the journey but apart from this it went fine and we arrived back at the Pyramid Park Resort Hotel at 11:30pm.

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

Our last full day of the trip and my last day in Egypt started with breakfast and meeting in the lobby at 8:30am where we drove into Cairo for our city tour . We got to the Egyptian museum for 9:00am as it opened, we spent 2 hours having a guided walk and a look round areas recommended to us by Zizo. I kind of wish we’d seen this at the beginning of the trip as it made a lot of the history come together and again made me realise just how clever the Egyptians were. We saw the famous Tutankhamen’s tombs which were so impressive and there was a range of jewellery which looked just like what we wear now, however no photos were allowed unless you paid, which I didn’t.

It also made me really want to go to the British Museum in London and see the artefacts they have in there!

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

After the museum we went to the Mosque of Amr ibn al-As, it isn’t the most impressive mosque in the city but it was a good chance for Zizo to give us some informtion on Islam which I had been looking forward to. Us girls were told to cover up for our day in Cairo however we still had to wear a robe in the mosque which sounded pretty normal until we realised they were bright green!

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

The next stop was the Hanging Church which is a coptic orthodox church and one of the oldest churches in Egypt followed by our last buffet lunch of the trip!

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

In the afternoon we had an hour to explore 2 of the main tourist shopping streets in Cairo which consisted of being called the Spice Girls, Shakira and so much more by the shop owners! This was followed by a visit to our last government shop which was a cotton shop however the prices were high and our attention span low so we left pretty quickly.

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

Back at the hotel in Cairo we said our goodbyes to Zizo who had been such an amazing guide! He is so knowledgable, approachable and some how he always remained upbeat and happy even on those early mornings! He 100% made the trip!

We did have the option of going to the Sound and Night show at the Pyramids this night which I initially signed up for however upon realising I had to leave for the airport at 8:30pm for my flight I decided to not rush my evening and instead have a few beers and dinner by the pool with the group.

Felucca Odyssey Tour Travel Talk Tours

This day purely includes breakfast hence why I said above that there’s no need to stay for it if you don’t have to however if you’re leaving later in the day you could enjoy a day by the hotel pool or head back into Cairo.

Should you take this Travel Talk Tour?

Yes! It’s a jam packed week but all of the major sights are included and as a person who usually travels independently I quickly realised that travelling Egypt on my own would have been hard and there would have been no way I could have seen all of this without travelling in an organised tour!

Why choose Travel Talk Tours?

Travel Talk Tours is a brilliant tour company, I had great service from the team based in the UK as well as from everyone who worked for them in Egypt. They hire local people which I think is great as it is not taking money away from the local economy and is instead providing jobs, it also means we get told local knowledge by the guides.

Travel Talk is extremely popular with Aussie and Kiwi expats and travellers but there was a number of American, Canadian and British people on the trip too, generally all in their 20’s and living in London so you know that you’ll meet some great people!

Travel Talk is also so popular because of their competitive prices. The Felucca Odyssey tour is the cheapest tour they do, on certain dates you can get it for £249.00! And the tour runs from every Saturday!

How to book the Felucca Odyssey Tour with Travel Talk Tours?

Loooooove this post! Sounds like you had a great time (I loved your vlog too)! But I feel tired just reading about all of the things you got up to, I need my sleep! ;-)

Egyptian history is so interesting - I can't believe they moved the temples up the mountains! And I really want to go to the British Museum to see the Egyptian artefacts too, I only work round the corner so I don't know why I haven't yet! Give me a shout if you need a museum buddy! :-)

April | April Everyday

The tour looks amazing! I used to be so obsessed with Egypt as a kid and it was my dream to go there one day. I've still never been, but I guess it's just been pushed to the back of my travel bucket list recently, but the tour looks so good! My parents did a cruise through egypt years ago and they got to visit quite a few of the places on this tour, and they always go on about how amazing it all was. I can't believe that they moved those temples up the mountain! That's insane! xo April | April Everyday

Travel talk tours: ‘ultimate jordan & egypt’ review.

DCIM100GOPROGOPR1834.JPG

Save this post for later? Why not share it or pin it!

The Travel Talk ‘Ultimate Jordan & Egypt’ tour is an epic 18 day adventure – it will truly blow your mind as you uncover the mysteries of many ancient civilisations. The tour explores so many wonders of the world, from the archaeological city of Petra in Jordan to the insanely anticipated ancient pyramids of Giza in the heart of Cairo.

Travel Talk is a UK based tour company targeting 18 – 39 year olds and particularly marketing their adventures to Australian and Kiwi expats living in London. Well their marketing worked well! Within our first week of living in London we had already found ourselves at a Travel Talk sale show which featured up to 70% off some of their tours (ps. these sales happen quite regularly so never book a full price tour from them). There will most likely be Aussies and Kiwis on these tours as well as people from all over the world are jumping on the bandwagon too!

Please note that some of the links in this post are affiliate links. At no additional cost to you, we earn a commission if you make a purchase .

First 7 days in Jordan

We were keen to widen our horizons and head to the Middle East and Africa for a change. After doing quite some research about females travelling in countries such as Jordan and Egypt, we decided that a tour would be a better option for us. This is not at all to say that solo female travel in these countries isn’t possible, because it definitely is, we just thought we would get more enjoyment and feel more comfortable in a group setting. It was also a nice change to experience having everything sorted and organised for us as this was our very first tour together (we have always planned our own travels).

Travel Talk have plenty of tour options in Jordan and Egypt so our next step was choosing the right tour for our needs. The main reasons we chose the 18 day ‘Ultimate Jordan & Egypt’ tour was that it covered the two countries we wanted to go to, it finished in Dahab in Egypt which has great scuba diving in the red sea, and lastly the price was just way too appealing to say no to. Especially as all it took was a 10 pound deposit to secure our spot!

Next 11 Days in Egypt

About the Tour – ‘Ultimate Jordan & Egypt

We would spend the first 6 nights in Jordan, followed by the next 11 nights in Egypt. I’m not going to go through the day by day itinerary as you can find that right here on the travel talk website, but I will point out the absolute highlights that this tour has to offer.

travel talk egypt tour review

This includes, but is definitely not limited to:

  • The ancient ruin city of Jerash in Amman

  • The Step Pyramid of Djoser
  • The Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx
  • Valley of the Kings (option to go into King Tutankhamun’s tomb)

Our Honest Review…

The nature of this tour, as well as other Travel Talk tours, is action packed, adventurous,  and quite fast paced. We found that starting the tour in Jordan was the perfect way to ease you into a big 18 day tour due to the slower pace for the first few days. We have been asked what we preferred out of the Jordan side of the tour versus the Egyptian side. I honestly can’t choose as both won my heart in their own unique ways, but I would definitely recommend this 18 day tour (if you have the time) as it was the perfect amount of days to cover both countries. For us, the highlights of this tour have to be the Jeep safari in Wadi Rum, exploring Petra and the big, sweaty walk up to the monastery, getting lathered in mud and floating in the Dead Sea, entering the Great Pyramid of Giza, and sailing on the Felucca up the Nile river. I wanted to have a top 3 highlights… but I seriously can’t narrow it down any further.

Travel Talk Guides:

Travel Talk pride themselves on the quality of their tour leaders as well as the fact that they are all local tour guides (from the country you are travelling in). This was super helpful! Over our 18 days, Issa was our guide through Jordan, and Moustafa was our guide for majority of Egypt. Roshi was our final tour guide for the last few days in Dahab. All 3 guides were great, and I cannot fault any of them. Their organisation, communication and knowledge were all on point as well as also being approachable and happy to help with any issues.

travel talk egypt tour review

The Accommodation:

This tour will have you staying in a variety of 3 – 5 star hotels. To me they all felt like 5 star hotels as they were very different to the budget accommodation we normally stay in. The only comment I would make about the accommodation is that there are times when you really don’t get much time to actually enjoy the hotels facilities due to the busy schedule you are on. As we went in Summer, we always made an effort to go for a dip in the hotel pool before the next adventure would begin – but beware, many of the hotel pools close when the sun sets.

Buffet after buffet, plenty of food options to choose from (some better than others). They are all great but when it comes to the 18th day of buffets you can find yourself getting a little bit over them. Breakfast is included every morning of the tour as well as a few lunches and dinners. There are also many group lunches at restaurants too, which again is a buffet style lunch. We always opted in for every local lunch/dinner food experience, and overall we preferred the food in Jordan compared to Egypt and it was so great experiencing the culture that comes along with the different specialties of each country. The food on the felucca is freshly cooked right on the boat and it was also delicious!

travel talk egypt tour review

We had a few hesitations about visiting these parts of the world, particularly Egypt due to ongoing terrorist threats and overall safety of the country, and the Government travel advice telling us to only visit if it was absolutely necessary. To be honest, we felt well supported by our tour and not once did we feel unsafe. We had a police officer travel onboard the bus with us and at certain times our bus was escorted by police cars through dodgier areas to safe checkpoints. Overall, Travel Talk assure their guests that all possible security measures are in place to prevent serious disturbances. Historic sites and tourist routes are protected and patrolled by the army and police and due to this deterrence are rarely affected by the unrest in other areas. Ultimately it’s good to have your wits about you and do your research, but don’t let opinions or anything stop you from travelling to these amazing destinations!

travel talk egypt tour review

In Egypt, the tour covers quite a lot of distance and this means a few loooong bus rides and early starts. Be prepared for this, both mentally and equipment wise eg. earphones, tablet for movies, use your towel as a blanket, a small travel pillow and if you a very lucky you may possibly get two seats to yourself! Also be aware that you are entering another culture which may be completely different to what you are used to. For example, different dress codes. We found that in Jordan we had to be a bit more dress conscious compared to Egypt which has become so accustomed to tourists. We tried to stick to the conservative dress codes of covering shoulders, chest and knees. Having loose cotton clothing with good coverage is a winner in the Egyptian summer sun anyway! Speaking of summer, we went on this tour in July, and the average day temperature was about 40 degrees Celsius. Due to this make sure you have plenty of water, a hat, sunnies and sunscreen! Slip, Slop, Slap, Slide (sunnies) and Seek (shade) are no joke! Seeking out shade will just become a way of life.

Why We Recommend This Tour

  • The very friendly price tag (especially when you purchase the tour at 60% off) is so good considering the quality accommodation and organisation.
  • The group of other travellers on every Travel Talk tour we have been on have been such like minded people and always so friendly, fun and relatable.
  • The itinerary really covers a lot of ground. At the end of the tour you will feel a little exhausted but it is completely worth the fast pace!
  • The tour finishes with 4 relaxing days in the sea side ‘resort like’ town of Dahab. I would highly recommend spending a few extra days in Dahab just to unwind and scuba dive in the Red Sea. It is a really cool town with heaps of waterfront restaurants.
  • Literally anyone we have met who has done a Travel Talk tour always recommends it – a truly reliable and trustworthy company.

travel talk egypt tour review

Recommended Changes

We had to carry around 230 pounds in cash each for the local payment (you pay for the tour but there is also a sneaky local cash payment). This gets a bit annoying if you are travelling around before the tour as you risk the possibility of having it stolen. BUT, Travel Talk have already slashed the local payment off all of their 2020 tours – so not to worry about this anymore!

The last 4 days in Dahab isn’t much of a guided tour. When it came to what to do in Dahab every activity was an optional activity which meant we had to pay to do it and it was less organised than the rest of the Egypt tour. We would prefer that at least the snorkelling experience at the Blue Hole be an inclusion of the tour rather than an optional activity, then it would be spot on!

All in all, we can’t recommend the ‘Ultimate Jordan & Egypt’ tour enough! We had an absolutely unbelievable time and made some amazing memories that won’t be fading any time soon!

Editoral Review of Travel Talk

British company, Travel Talk, strives to provide top notch travel experiences at reasonable prices.

What Makes Travel Talk Stand Out?

Travel Talk was born out of the desire to make extraordinary experiences accessible to ordinary people.

They have many niche tours such that finding a tour suited to your interests is easy, and you’re guaranteed to meet like minded friends along the way! All tours are led by local experts who are there to make your experience unforgettable.

Who Will Enjoy Traveling with Travel Talk?

In their own words, travelers on their tours “ have a desire to get off the beaten track, experience the culture and tradition all while having a little fun.” Single travelers are more than welcome, and provided you don’t mind sharing a room, no single supplement is required (with the occasional exception on sailing tours).

However, unlike their commonly compared counterparts, Contiki and Topdeck, Travel Talk presents itself as less of a constant ongoing party and more of a cultural experiences tour. Not to say there is not the occasional night out on the town - only that the more introverted may enjoy Travel Talk more than Contiki or Topdeck.

Top Destinations

Travel Talk’s most popular tour destinations include Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Greece. Travel Talk also offer a range of tours to The Balkans, Africa, Ski Bansko, Croatia, Asia and plenty more.

Travel Talk Style

Travel Talks travel style is all about cultural discovery and having a good time. Accommodations are chosen within a variety of comfort levels, and Travel Talk strives to choose where you stay and how as it’s own experience - not just as an afterthought.

Travel Talk tours are budget conscious, but depending on the destination, you may experience anything from a 5 star resort to riding aboard a traditional felucca on the Nile.

Why Choose a Tour with Travel Talk?

They are committed to providing a real, adventurous, cultural, and above all local experience. Yet they are careful to not force the comfort zone too far. You will receive outstanding service, accommodation, transportation, and attention from your tour guides. Itineraries cover the must see tourist spots as well as hidden gems. It’s the perfect travel experience that won’t break the bank.

Highly recommend this ANZAC tour through Turkey!

I attended the ten day ANZAC tour in Turkey and had an amazing time. The tour was very well organised and covered many sights of Turkey, from bustling Istanbul, to the hot air balloon experience in Cappadocia and the moving experience of the ANZAC day services in Gallipoli. Our tour guide Mustafa was incredibly knowledgeable, organised and friendly and made the whole experience very enjoyable. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone who wants to experience Turkey.

Highly recommend

Had a fantastic tour. The hotels were good, the food each day was filling and good quality. the sailing part was one of my favourite parts it was so much fun and super relaxing which was really nice in the middle of the tour. The hot air balloons were amazing, definitely could’ve spent a few more days there. We were unable to go up in the balloons although it is an optional extra it wasn’t stated that there was a possibility that we wouldn’t be able to do it at all, but the photos from the ground were amazing so it was still a fantastic experience. Edit: not being able to go up in the balloons was not due to the weather. Our tour guide told us when everyone had said yes to the optional extra that the operators of the balloons can say no to us for no reason. It was only stated that the optional extra was weather permitted not operator permitted.

Thanks for sharing your review, Amalie-Jean! Sounds like you had a great time exploring Turkey. The 3-night Sailing leg on the traditional Gulet is definitely a highlight of the tour. Unfortunately hot air ballooning is largely dependant upon weather. On the rare occasion that it is too windy or weather conditions aren't acceptable, the balloon operators must cancel due to safety precautions. We're sorry to hear you missed out because of this, but all the more reason to come back and visit Cappadocia again!

Loving Turkey

This has been by far the best tour I’ve ever taken! I took The 9 days in Turkey Tour and Mustafa our guide was amazing! He’s passion and knowledge was definitely one of the things that made it so special. He’s very organized and patient! I can do this tour over and over again!

Egypt Travel talk

Egypt is one of my favourite countries I have visited due to travel talk. The tour guide was knowledgable and friendly, the other staff involved were helpful and overall the experiences and sightseeing was amazing. Would highly recommend

Cheers for the recommendation Courtney!

Disappointing to not have an experienced guide

I travelled to Bansko, in Bulgaria, for a ski holiday with Travel Talk over Christmas. Customer service were helpful in answering my Covid related queries. The trip moved fairly smoothly, although this was not aided by the fact that we lacked an experienced guide for the tour. Our eventual guide, Rebecca, made absolutely stellar efforts to fill this gap. We had excellent excursions arranged for us, such as a transfer to thermal baths and a traditional Bulgarian meal. She was also great fun, and particularly beneficial to the group dynamic. However, Rebecca had never been to Bansko previously, nor was she a tour guide. It felt that she had been rather thrown in at the deep end by her employer. This meant that Travel Talk had rather neglected and short changed their tour participants, in my opinion. This was not addressed. When I travelled with Travel Talk previously, it was our fantastic guide who really set the tour apart from what could be offered by competitors. By not providing an experienced guide, as promised in the tour description, my faith in Travel Talk has been diminished.

We did the 10 day ANZAC tour and it was absolutely brilliant. Breathtaking locations, the best guide we’ve ever had in Mustafa, and a powerful Gallipoli experience. The travel between destinations was comfortable, and the accommodation fit for purpose. This tour exceeded my expectations!

Travel Talk - Best of the Balkans Trip Review

I went on the "Best of the Balkans" tour and it was amazing. Saw a lot in a short amount of time. The only drawback for me was that the coach toilet was not in use, and there was a lot of time spent on the coach. Would recommend for travellers looking to see a lot in a short amount of time, and especially those not particularly good at organising things for themselves.

Date of experience : February 26, 2021

Thanks for sharing your review, Lindsay! Our guides and drivers always do their best to plan for frequent breaks on long drives, so our travellers can stretch their legs and use the bathroom. However, we'll be sure to share your feedback with the operations team for review. We appreciate your recommendation!

I used Travel Talk Tours to see Morocco …

I used Travel Talk Tours to see Morocco, it was the most easiest trip I’ve ever done and both the Trip Manager and Coach driver were so lovely. I would 100% use this company again as it took the hassle out of organising a trip and it’s super affordable. -Lyndella Micol

Amazing 12 days

It was incredibly well planned, the guide was wonderful, i felt like we were immersed in the culture. 12 days of continuous laughter, great food and enjoying each country. Laura Rocha

Awesome to hear - Thanks for your review Laura! Can't wait to welcome you back one day in the future.

Discovering Morocco

I had a tour with Travel Talk Tours in 2019. The 8 days in Morocco was such an amazing trip. Everything was carefully organised and perfect for this trip. The guide we had for the all 8 days is an amazing guy, Abdoul Moussali. He is knowledgeable and funny and we had a fab time together. Look forward to the next adventure with Travel Talk Tours.

Much Fun in Morocco!

First of all - our guide and bus driver were AWESOME. LOVED all the sites we went to. (The Sahara experience was so so good!!) The only thing that I didn't love was that we didn't always get as much time to explore places as I would've liked because by the time we finished getting a meal, our free-time would be all used up. My top tip for this would be to try to avoid sit-down restaurants when you can when you are on a tighter schedule. We learned this the hard way in Essaouira. That being said, we appreciated our guide's advice on safe places to eat to avoid food poisoning! Also, with regards to Chefchaouen, stop catering to the divas. As long as it is made clear in the tour description that the accommodations will be more rustic in Chefchaouen, staying there instead of driving to another city for the night would've been better. Overall, though, I always felt very safe on this tour, we saw TONS in a very small space of time, and I would highly recommend!

Cheers for the review, Raelyn! As you would have experienced, the itineraries can sometimes be fast-paced to ensure our travellers get to experience the most they can in a short period of time. This being said, we always appreciate honest feedback to help us continue to better our service! Thanks for the recommendation and hope to see you back on tour someday soon.

Highly recommend the sail Turkey trip

Highly recommend the sail Turkey trip, had some absolute amazing sites. The guide was great and it was well organised. My only downside is that I didn’t find it clear that on the boats the cabins are only double beds. So as a single traveller I had to share a bed with a stranger which I did not feel was clear when I booked.

Scammers and thieves

Scammers and thieves. Stay well away. Refusing to refund after cancelling tour which is contrary to UK law. They stall, send generic emails and do anything to not pay back your money. Will never travel with them again. Your money is not safe with Travel Talk.

Split to Dubrovnik Sail

I did the boat tour from Split to Dubrovnik in late June/early July. It was without doubt the highlight of my Europe trip, every day was so much fun, and I would recommend it to anyone that wants to see Croatia and enjoys some good nightlife. Our tour manager, Dora, was the best! Dora is Croatian and was highly knowledgeable about the best activities, restaurants, clubs, history etc. and always provided us with heaps of options to do each day and made sure to give us different options for restaurants to cater for everyone’s budget. The white water rafting was amazing, and also the pub crawl on Hvar! Every day you moor up for swim stops in the bluest water and there’s always some free time for relaxing on a beach or on the boat which is much needed as most nights go late partying. The ratio was pretty evenly split and the range of ages was maybe 20-35 which was good. Everyone except the crew was from Australia. Most people came with a couple friends, but as a solo traveller it is really easy to meet people and you get to know everyone really quickly! The karaoke in Split on night one was the BEST and the perfect ice breaker!! The crew were great, I felt safe all the time. Blaz was the most attentive waiter, whenever you needed a drink he was there! Also the food was the best - really good mix of local Croatian cuisine and some Western foods too. The cabins were small but exactly what you would expect in size for a boat. Everything was really clean and well maintained by the crew, Slavko, Ivan and Roko. It had a good deck on the top for sunbathing. All in all this trip was amazing value and I would do it again!

One of the best holidays I’ve had

We went on a tour of the Balkans and it was above our expectations. Bojan was the best tour leader gave us so much information about the places we were visiting but also a great laugh! The tour ran so smoothly and was the perfect way to see the area in a little amount of time. It was one of the best holidays I have been on, I loved every minute of it and I can’t wait to book another tour with travel talk. They are great value for money!

Hi Scarlett, thanks for sharing a review of your tour through the Balkans! Bojan is a great Tour Leader and we're so happy to hear you agree. Can't wait to see you travelling with us again someday soon.

Best of Balkans

This was my second Holiday with Travel Talk Tours and won’t be the last! Have done Egypt Jewels of the Nile and now Best of Balkans. Everything was organized from airport transfers, hotels, transportation and so on so I didn’t have to worry about anything and just enjoy the trip. With this tour we got to visit Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, Albania and Macedonia. Each country rich in history, culture and cuisine. Our guide Bojan was a great tour guide with so much knowledge and did everything in his power to make everyone happy and made sure we were taken care of and he made the experience so much better. A job well done. Other than the fact that we saw so many beautiful places, tried great food, Rajika, the people I met on this tour was the highlight for me. Going as a solo traveler, I was a bit nervous In the beginning but people were so friendly and easy to talk too and made friends from all over the world. We became a family! So get out there and get ready to explore, you won’t be disappointed, I Would highly recommend this tour for anyone.

Thanks for travelling with us, Diego! We're so happy to hear any worries you may have had as a solo traveller disappeared as soon as you joined the tour! We appreciate you recommending us and hope to see you again one day soon on another trip.
