Bodrum’s Voyage Torba Hotel is a calm counterpoint to Turkey’s mega resorts

The narrow streets and stone-paved courtyards of the local area all inform the architecture of this Bodrum hotel, laid out as an alternative to the ‘standard patterns of tourism’.

Baraka Architects designed the minimalist Voyage Torba Hotel, which comprises a cluster of separate villas located not far from the seafront. The practice told ArchDaily  it wanted to ‘avoid the typical hotel scheme’, in favour of something that spoke to the architectural features of the surrounding area.

The villas are laid out like a miniature neighbourhood, linked by narrow pathways that are shaded by the apartments’ whitewashed walls. Citrus trees and lavender plants surround the hotel, with rooms designed to open easily onto the outdoors on one side, and frame sea views on the other. Voyage Torba opens later this summer, with rooms starting at £1152 for four nights.
