Wallows Will Celebrate Album ‘Model’ With Their ‘Biggest and Best’ Tour Yet
- By Tomás Mier
The boys of Wallows promised arena rock on their new album Model — and they are sticking to their word. On Monday, the alt-rock band announced tour dates in the United States and Europe for their upcoming Model World Tour, which includes stops at NYC’s Madison Square Garden and LA’s Kia Forum.
“I can confidently say this is the first time that I’m really anticipating a tour announcement ,” Dylan Minnette told Variety as they announced their tour dates, which include stops in Las Vegas, Boston, and San Diego. “I’m more nervous than ever — but not in a negative way. I know it’s going to go well. I know our fans show up but I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it every day.”
Wallows announced their album Model in an interview with Rolling Stone earlier this month, describing it as “very honest and authentic” and “imperfectly perfect.”
“We want this to be the most approachable album we’ve made. I want people to put this on if they’re not really a fan of us, and be gripped immediately,” Dylan Minnette said. “We don’t want to take too much of their attention, but we want to keep it. We keep them the whole time and make them want to come back.”
Joining the band on the road in the United States will be Benee, the Kiwi pop star responsible for “ Supalonely ,” “Glitter,” and “ Green Honda .”
Tickets for the shows go on sale to the general public on March 15 at 10 a.m. local time, while Wallows newsletter subscribers get first access to a presale starting on March 12 at 10 a.m.

Catchy, whip-smart and unabashedly cool, Wallows make rock music on their own terms — but everyone is invited to the party. The trio caught global attention when their single “Pictures of Girls” hit the Billboard Top 40 in 2018, bolstered by singer/guitarist/actor Dylan Minnette’s starring role in the Netflix breakout drama 13 Reasons Why. On the heels of their 2019 full-length release, Nothing Happens on Atlantic Records, Wallows embarked on a UK tour after kicking things off at The Fonda in their hometown of Los Angeles. Although the band have been playing live shows in various incarnations for years, including a 2011 Warped Tour slot when the guys were literally just kids, Wallows is their calling card to the world. As witnessed at Coachella 2019, Wallows bring their spiky, synth-laden odes to millennial ennui and conflicted romance to life with fuzzy guitars, boundless energy and the strength to find joy in turbulent times.

MORE ON WALLOWS:
Wallows (composed of Dylan Minnette, Braeden Lemasters and Cole Preston) have been best friends since the age of 11. They began playing music together in the LA music program Join the Band almost two decades ago and haven’t stopped since. In March 2022, the band released their Sophomore album, Tell Me That It’s Over, produced by 3x GRAMMY Award-winner Ariel Rechtshaid (Vampire Weekend, Haim, Adele). TMTIO saw Wallows continuing on their ever-evolving journey of sonic exploration, fusing a vast array of musical ideas – from lo-fi post-punk and indie-folk to early ’90s dance-pop psychedelia – into their own one-of-a-kind creative vision.
TMTIO marked the full-length follow-up to Wallows’ hugely popular 2019 debut album, Nothing Happens, produced by GRAMMY Award-winner John Congleton (St. Vincent, Sharon Van Etten). The album proved to be one of that year’s highest streamed debuts. In the live space, Wallows have headlined sold out shows around the globe and have performed at marquee festivals such as Coachella, Lollapalooza, Reading and Leeds, and more.

Relive the Utah Concert Experience!
Wallows w/ Empath•October 1, 2022• The Union
Reviewed and Photographed by Josillyn Wakkuri Lybbert
The Union hosted Wallows, along with Empath, on Saturday, October 1st. The sold out show drew in a full crowd of excited fans ready to enjoy some of their favorite music! It was Wallows’ first time playing Utah, so there was an extra sense of anticipation for the concert!
I, unfortunately, missed the first part of Empath’s set. By the time I got in, they already had the crowd having a great time! Everyone was jumping up and down, loving the show! The American punk band from Pennsylvania is composed of members Catherine Elicson, Jem Shanahan, Randall Coon, and Garrett Koloski. Every band member in Empath had an energy level that I could only dream of and was so impressed by! Their energy level reflected into the audience throughout the entire set. That, along with the constantly flashing, color changing lights and their upbeat, rocking songs, made them a wonderful band to kick off the night!
In between Empath and Wallows, security guards went through at least a handful of cases of water bottles to pass out to the crowd. Which I always find to be a very thoughtful gesture. Once they got through the people closest to the front, they started tossing them further back. Almost everyone started cheering! There’s nothing like free water at a concert to keep a person going, especially when it’s warm and crowded. While we were all waiting for the show to begin, there was a lot of chatter from fans about how excited they were! I asked one group of girls that were at the front of the crowd how long they’d waited to be able to get to the front. They said that they got there three and a half hours early!
Not long after, Wallows were on stage and the crowd was absolutely thrilled! The stage glowed light green, and then the lights turned a bright white. They and then continued to flash, almost like a strobe light at times while flashing different colors during others. The lead singer, Dylan Minnette not only had a great, clear voice, but he was also a great performer, too! Each band member also did an incredible job with their respective instrument(s). They were very interactive with the crowd, which was of course well received!
It was immediately obvious that Wallows was well loved. Everyone seemed to know every word to every song, and they sang along loud and proud! While there were a variety of people in attendance, the majority of the audience were teenage girls. That made for an extra fun energy throughout the night! They can always be counted on to be enthusiastic which has to be rewarding for the band to see! Right off the bat, one could hear a multitude of, “I love you!”s being shouted. People were joyfully freaking out after they made eye contact with someone in the band.
After the first few songs, the band thanked the audience for such a warm welcome. They said that it was their first time performing in the state of Utah. Wallows expressed that they were happy to be there! They also did a great job by reminding people to give each other space, allow people to easily get out of the crowd for water or air if needed, and not to crush the people in the front. I thought that was really kind of them!
While Wallows played through songs like, “Pleaser,” “Treacherous Doctor,” and, “Marvelous,” the venue was filled with happy, dancing people! Some were dancing in the thick of the crowd. While others were dancing on their own or with a partner in the back with a little more space! Later on, they announced that they had been a band since 2017. Wallows would be playing a song from back then! They played the song, “Sun Tan,” and people were jumping so much that the whole venue was shaking! They ended that one with a little bit of One Direction’s song, “What Makes You Beautiful,” which was a personal highlight of the show for me and seemed to be loved by many others there, too! Following, “Sun Tan,” they played, “These Days.” The song was finished up by the audience singing it beautifully a capella!
As the show went on, fans enjoyed songs like, “Quarterback,” “Scrawny,” and, “Remember When.” The band and the audience both impressively continued to not miss a beat and were all just as energetic as the first song! It was like both parties could’ve kept it up all night! After singing, “Guitar Romantic Search Adventure,” they said, “We’ll be right back!” The lights went down and Wallows exited the stage. The crowd began to chant, “One more song!” over and over until Wallows came back on for the encore to end their stop in Salt Lake City. A crowd favorite during the encore was an a capella mashup of Journey’s, “Don’t Stop Believing,” and, “Mr. Brightside,” by The Killers!
The Wallows’ and Empath’s stop in Salt Lake was a night filled with singing, dancing, and great music and performances by everyone who took the stage! Fans that poured out from The Union after the show could be heard chatting so happily about what they were just a part of. One person said, “I haven’t been this hyped about a concert in a long time!” I think many people felt that way and left the show on cloud nine!

WOW! Absolutely blown away by Wallows. They were super friendly at the meet and greet and the entire VIP experience was fantastic and definitely memorable. During the show, Wallows made the audience feel very connected. Their performance was so energetic and engaging. They definitely incorporated a lot of humor into the performance. At one point they played the Drake and Josh theme song. There was a little girl in the audience who must have been 4 or 5 years old, and they asked the girl her name and let her come on stage. She gave them toy dinosaurs and Dylan let her use the mic to talk into the audience! Braedan even made a picture of the Dino his new profile picture. I would definitely recommend seeing Wallows and even going VIP.

The concert was so fun. When my friend and I got there, we didn’t know about the signing, but i. was such a nice surprise and we ended up just spending a few more bucks to meet the band, which was a great experience. As for the actual concert, the opening act was fun to watch, but when the Wallows came on stage, the whole vibe of the room changed to a great exciting feeling. The venue was the perfect size for the type of audience that follows this band and overall, I had a great experience, and i would definitely go back to that venue when I get the opportunity.
it was so much fun!!! i screamed so much i couldn’t talk after wards and i could hear out of my left ear for a whole day!! my feet and legs hurt from jumping up and down and my arms hurt from being extended so much! i know all of this sounds like negative things but in the context of a concert, these are the outcomes i’m looking for. at some point i did disassociate and kind of just stand there and stare not know where i was or what i was doing but i got over that quick and that seems to be more a problem with me and less with the concert itself.
I took my two 15 year old daughters and their friend to the Wallows concert on February 23, 2018 and all 4 of us had a great time! The venue was really cool and I appreciated being able to "stay in the back" yet still keep an eye on my kids. I was also happy that the sound level was perfect, you could hear the music and understand the lyrics without each being over-powering. I would definitely take them or let them go see another concert at Third Man Records. They have been fans of the Wallows for quite some time and are bigger fans now!
Recommend this concert greatly. I love the Wallows. They are so friendly and their music is so catchy. I cried when they came out because I absolutely love them. There was a lot of mashing, singing along, and just an overall great community of people. The tickets were easy to scan at The Fonda Theater. If they come again, I will go see them. They are amazing and their stage presence is absolutely incredible. Don't miss when they have meet and greets or they are in your town.
You said you, you don’t want me
And I said, I don’t mind at all
I just want you to go
'Cause I don’t need to know
IIIIFFFF IF THIS LIFE DON'T WORK OUT FOR ME
IIII, II WILL BE ON MY WAY
I DON'T WANT TO GO
IF YOU ARE GONNA STAYY
I'M STANDING OUTSIDE OF YOUR HOUSE
IT'S PRETTY DARK OUT
GOOD THING THERE'S LIGHTS
IT'S PRETTY COLD THOUGH
I JUST NEED YOU RIGHT HERE
TO WARM ME UP THIS TIMEEE
It was so amazing! They played pretty much their whole discography, there wasn't much of that stop and talk stuff many bands tend to do, they know you're there for the music and they give it to you. They had such high energy and are just as good, if not better, live. I would 100% recommend, this was a bucket list concert for me and I had the time of my life!
This concert was truly amazing! From the atmosphere to the people and music itself it was a night I didn’t want to end and could stay forever . The band were amazing keeping the flow of music going and atmosphere alive even coping with technical problems with the drum which were fixed quickly. I would definitely recommend and want to go again
The show was held in a smaller club, but I never once felt crowded or like the music was too loud. The sound quality was great. The whole show was just incredible and I had such a great time! I can't wait to be able to see Wallows perform again. I would rate the concert with the highest rating possible! Such a great show and band!
I’m a new fan every since I finished watching 13 reasons why and I feel like clay so I decided to look up the cast but I found the person who played clay and I play all of the songs on repeat I love love this Music so much I love you wallows you are amazing I feel very good when I’m listening to you’re music! : )

Olympic officials visit Utah to tour potential 2034 Olympic venues
Olympic officials are visiting Utah this week to tour venues in the Wasatch Back and beyond for a potential 2034 Games here.
The International Olympic Committee Future Host Commission is visiting sites in Salt Lake, Summit, Wasatch and Weber counties to check out potential 2034 Olympic venues. The trip begins Wednesday, April 10 in Salt Lake, moves to the Wasatch Back Thursday, April 11, hits northern Utah’s Weber County Friday, April 12, and wraps up Saturday, April 13, back in Salt Lake.
First up on the tour, the University of Utah’s Rice-Eccles Stadium followed by a ride on Utah Transit Authority’s TRAX train to the Delta Center downtown.
Tom Kelly, a spokesperson for Utah’s Olympic Committee, said the 2002 Olympics were the catalyst for the construction of TRAX light rail and Frontrunner. Utah’s bid committee wanted to showcase the rails to highlight the importance of transportation options and sustainability.
“Now that system is thriving, we have great light rail down in the valley. We also have a great regional transportation network with Frontrunner," Kelly said. "So we thought that we would give the IOC a little ride on a TRAX train.”
Thursday, April 11, the commission starts with a forum on Utah’s Olympic journey from 2002 to 2034. Next is the Wasatch Back for the Utah Olympic Park ski jumps and the 2002 Olympic Winter Games Museum. The group ends the day touring Park City Mountain and Soldier Hollow.
“Down at Soldier Hollow in Midway, the IOC will have an opportunity to actually try the biathlon shooting range using laser rifles, so that should be a fun stop,” Kelly said.
Friday, April 12, starts in Weber County where the commission will ride Snowbasin’s John Paul chairlift to see the men’s and women’s downhill tracks. After that, it’s the Utah Olympic Oval for skating facilities.
The visit ends Saturday, April 13, with a news conference in Salt Lake where the IOC future host commission and Utah’s bid committee will share observations and discuss the venue options. Kelly noted this is more of a business discussion as Salt Lake City has already been selected as the preferred host for the 2034 Games and is the only official host being considered.
The IOC will select a host for the 2034 Games on July 24 or Pioneer Day in Utah.
Taylorsville Utah Temple opens to media, guests and public
Tuesday’s media day comes just 2 days after the april 2024 general conference included messages about temples and covenants..
Two days after President Russell M. Nelson announced 15 new temple locations and spoke of the importance of the ordinances, covenants and blessings available through temple work and worship , The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints opened the doors to its new Taylorsville Utah Temple on Tuesday, April 9.
“The temple is the gateway to the greatest blessings God has in store for each of us. The temple is the only place on earth where we may receive all of the blessings promised to Abraham,” said President Nelson, with the 15 announced temples bringing the Church’s total to 350 temples dedicated, under construction and announced.
“This is why we are doing all without our power, under the direction of the Lord, to make temple blessings more accessible to members of the Church.”
The Taylorsville Utah Temple will become the Church’s 192nd dedicated temple in early June.
And on Tuesday morning, April 9, the new house of the Lord had its first visitors at the start of a seven-week open-house period for the media, invited guests and the general public.
Welcoming the media for a news briefing and tour of the new temple on Tuesday were three Church leaders — Elder Kevin W. Pearson , a General Authority Seventy and president of the Utah Area; Elder James R. Rasband , a General Authority Seventy and assistant executive director of the Temple Department; and Sister Tracy Y. Browning , second counselor in the Primary general presidency.
Exterior and interior images of the Taylorsville Utah Temple were first published Tuesday, April 9 , on ChurchofJesusChrist.org .
Temple milestone events
Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will dedicate the Taylorsville Utah Temple on Sunday, June 2, in two sessions scheduled at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. MDT. The sessions will be broadcast to all units within the temple district. Elder Gong will dedicate the Church’s 191st house of the Lord — the Puebla Mexico Temple — two weeks earlier, on May 19.
After Tuesday’s media day events, tours for invited guests will continue through Friday, April 12, with a public open house is scheduled for Saturday, April 13, through Saturday, May 18, excluding Sundays.
The Taylorsville temple was announced by President Nelson during the women’s session of the October 2019 general conference. Less than 10 weeks later, the First Presidency identified the site location , centrally located within the Salt Lake Valley just west of Interstate 215 and southwest of the Belt Route’s 4700 South interchange.
The house of the Lord is a three-story, 73,492-square-foot building with a center spire, on a 7.5-acre site at 2603 W. 4700 South. Previously on the site sat a Church meetinghouse and a recreational field.
Elder Gong presided over the temple’s groundbreaking services Oct. 31, 2020.
The Taylorsville temple’s features
Built of structural steel and stone cladding, the temple features a pioneer-era Gothic architectural style, with the arches and motifs inspired by local pioneer-era tabernacles in communities along Utah’s Wasatch Front.
The temple’s exterior art glass and design underscore that pioneer heritage and the west Salt Lake Valley’s natural colors with stylized versions of local Utah wildflowers — bird’s foot trefoil, “Red Beauty” Bergenia cordifolia and broad-leaved gilia — as well as the colors of deep burgundy, lavender and gold.
The landscaping includes annuals, shrub beds, evergreens and deciduous trees.
Gold and lavender broadloom carpets are found in the general areas, with white carved carpets in the sealing rooms and wall-to-wall wool rugs in the bride’s room and dressing rooms.
General stone flooring throughout the interior is Perlatino from Italy, with Cream Ella in the sealing and celestial rooms.
The interior art glass features a range of yellows, greens and purples, with red accent jewels.
Temples in Utah
The Taylorsville temple is one of 30 total temples in operation, under construction, under renovation or announced in Utah, home to nearly 2.2 million Latter-day Saints spread throughout more than 5,400 congregations.
Houses of the Lord in Utah that are operating are the Bountiful , Brigham City , Cedar City , Draper , Jordan River, Logan , Monticello , Mount Timpanogos , Ogden , Oquirrh Mountain , Orem , Payson , Provo City Center , Red Cliffs, Saratoga Springs , St. George and Vernal temples.
The renovated Manti Utah Temple is scheduled for rededication on April 2 1 and the Layton Utah Temple for dedication on June 16 .
Two dedicated temples are under renovation — the Salt Lake and Provo Utah Rock Canyon temples.
Other houses of the Lord under construction are the Deseret Peak , Ephraim , Heber Valley , Lindon , Smithfield and Syracuse temples. Two additional temples for Utah — for West Jordan and Lehi — were among the 15 new locations announced by President Nelson on Sunday.

Taylorsville Utah Temple open house begins Saturday: See the first photos
Reservations are available to the public to tour the temple for free during an open house that runs from april 13-may 18, excluding sundays.
By Tad Walch
TAYLORSVILLE, Utah — As they dug a garden for her new home here in 1985, Mariá Luisa Torres explained to her father that the was once called the Church Farm, a place where early pioneers settled to farm so they could feed themselves and other Latter-day Saints as they arrived in the Salt Lake Valley.
The city was named for John Taylor, the third president and prophet of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, because some of the settlers were baptized by him in England. And the area near where they dug had been owned by Joseph F. Smith, the sixth church president.
Jesus Raul Quesada had asked Torres to explain the area’s history while he knelt in the soil and thoughtfully sifted it in his hands.
“This place is sacred,” he told his daughter when she finished. “I feel that one day, there will be a temple here.”
This Saturday, the doors of the new Taylorsville Utah Temple, two blocks from that garden on the site once owned by President Smith, will open for free public tours, and area residents are looking forward to sharing the sacred nature of the temple with visitors.
Reservations are available here . The open house is scheduled to run from Saturday, April 13, through Saturday, May 18, 2024, excluding Sundays. The first photos of the temple were released to coincide with a media tour on Tuesday morning.
Latter-day Saint temples point people to Jesus Christ, Torres and others said as they led journalists on the preview tour.
“We are thrilled with the opportunity to welcome the public to tour this temple,” said Elder Kevin W. Pearson, the Utah Area president and a General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. “In coming weeks, tens of thousands or even several hundred thousand people will come and tour this beautiful temple.”
He said many will be interested to see what the inside of the temple looks like after watching its construction on the I-215 interchange with 4700 South on the west side of the Salt Lake Valley.
“People are always interested in what the temple looks like on the outside, the architecture, how it’s furnished on the inside, but what we hope is that you’ll pay particular attention to what happens inside of the temple, because that makes all the difference,” he said. “We don’t come for the furnishings. We come for the blessings and the spiritual power, the hope, the reassurance, the confidence, the increase in our faith that comes as we come to the house of the Lord and worship our Heavenly Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”
One of those who has watched the construction on her daily commute is Sister Tracy Y. Browning, second counselor in the church’s Primary general presidency. She noted that the Taylorsville temple, like all Latter-day Saint temples, have words etched in the stone above its doors:
- “Holiness to the Lord.
- “The House of the Lord.”
“I hope as people tour the temple, they’ll see how the temple expresses the name branded on the front,” she said.
She called the completion of a temple a joyful event, and said each comes with “a joyful invitation to His children to come and come in and be in His presence here. ... Everything about it is a celebration, and we celebrate with a joyful welcoming, from the open house all the way to the dedication.”
The temple’s exterior stone cladding has a soft tan color. Inside, woodwork and metalwork are a deep brown, and furnishings follow a deep burgundy, lavender and gold color palette, according to a church news release.
There also are original paintings, including one of Jesus Christ standing in a golden archway and a pair on opposite sides of the temple’s chapel that depict Christ’s birth and Zacharias holding his eight-day-old son, John the Baptist, and prophesying about him going before Christ “ to prepare his ways .”
All of the artwork, like the architecture, is “designed to help us remember as we come into this space, that the blessings in life flow from Jesus Christ,” said Elder James R. Rasband, a General Authority Seventy who serves as an assistant executive director of the church’s Temple Department.
Elder Rasband noted that some of the building’s features are related to the Wasatch Mountains on the east side of the Salt Lake Valley and the Oquirrh Mountains on the west side, including stylized versions of local wildflowers.
“I love this beautiful pioneer-era, Gothic architecture that reminds us of buildings throughout Utah and the valley,” he said. “I love that there are wildflower motifs that remind us of the beautiful summer wildflowers in the Oquirrhs, but that’s not for us what it’s about. Those beautiful expressions are just ways of saying how much we want to honor the Lord.
“For us, more than the physical beauty, the temple bears witness for us of Jesus Christ, and that through him and through his resurrection, each of us will overcome death and live again, and that we can live (eternally) not just individually but as part of families.”
Sister Browning said temples are expressions of what Jesus Christ called the two great commandments in the New Testament. First, church members show their love for God when they first attend the temple by making covenants — or promises and commitments — with him to follow him. Second, they attend temples to love others by doing temple ordinances for deceased ancestors as a free-will offering those ancestors may accept or reject.
“Once the temple is dedicated, then those who will enter the temple will be church members who are striving to live a Christlike life and have been certified by their leaders that that’s what they’re trying to do. And so it’s not open to the general public. And what this does for this next period is give us an opportunity to show the public what the house of the Lord looks like and here’s what we do here.” President Russell M. Nelson announced the Taylorsville temple in October 2019.
The temple is the first in Taylorsville and will be the 21st in Utah, where a total of 30 temples now are scheduled to be built.
The temple will be dedicated on June 2 by Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles. Elder Gong presided over the groundbreaking service in October 2020.
The Gongs have a special connection to the Taylorsville temple location. Sister Susan Gong’s father was bishop of the local Latter-day Saint ward when a chapel opened on the site. That chapel was razed in 2020 to make room for the temple.
“It’s a very special blessing to participate in any temple groundbreaking and site dedication,” Elder Gong said at the groundbreaking. “All of us feel connected in each of those, but for us here particularly with the multiple generations in our own family, it is a special privilege. ... Our father and grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather all had served as bishops here in Taylorsville. So many of those that we love have been associated here over many generations, so it’s a very special blessing.”
The Taylorsville Utah Temple is the the fifth in the Salt Lake Valley, following the Salt Lake Temple (1893), the Jordan River Utah Temple (1981), the Draper Utah Temple (2009) and the Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple (2009).
The temple is located at 2603 West 4700 South in Taylorsville. It is 70,000 square feet and includes a center spire. It was built on a 7.5-acre site that included a field and a Latter-day Saint meetinghouse that serves as a stake center, the headquarters for a group of congregations.
Elder Pearson grew up in the valley and visited his grandparents every Sunday in their home near where the temple is now.
Torres raised five children in the home where her father helped build her garden, two blocks from the temple site. When she sold the home and moved, she and her husband bought another across town. Now she has grandchildren graduating from Taylorsville High School the way her children did before them.

When is the next total solar eclipse in the US after 2024 and what is its path? What to know
The highly anticipated 2024 total solar eclipse will cross North America on Monday , giving millions of sky-gazers the chance to see a rare cosmic event that won't be viewable again for 20 years.
The eclipse's path of totality will travel over a portion of northern Mexico before entering the U.S. It then it will cross 13 states from Texas to Maine, where the spectacle is expected to attract huge crowds.
If you aren't lucky enough to be in the path of totality this time around, you will have another chance - you'll just have to wait until the 2040s.
Here's what we know about the next total solar eclipse to cross over the U.S.
Eclipse playlist: Fans return to Bonnie Tyler's 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' ahead of total solar eclipse
When is the next total solar eclipse visible from the U.S.?
It will be 20 years before there's a chance to witness a total solar eclipse in the United States again.
According to NASA, after Monday's total solar eclipse , the next one viewable from the contiguous U.S. will be on Aug. 23, 2044.
2044 total solar eclipse path of totality
Unfortunately, the 2044 total solar eclipse won't have the broad reach across the U.S. as the 2024 eclipse.
The path of totality during the 2044 eclipse will only touch three states, according to the Planetary Society, a nonprofit involved in research, public outreach, and political space advocacy.
The eclipse will begin in Greenland, sweep through Canada and end around sunset in Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota.
Pets and the eclipse: Will my pets be safe during the April 2024 solar eclipse? What experts say.
2045 solar eclipse
While the 2044 total eclipse will only touch three states, a 2045 eclipse will have a more robust path across the U.S.
Expected to occur on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2045, this solar eclipse will trace a path of totality over California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, and Georgia.
A partial solar eclipse will also be viewable in 35 other states, according to National Eclipse.com
What is a total solar eclipse?
Any celestial object like a moon or a planet that passes between two other bodies can create an eclipse by obscuring the view of objects like the sun.
In the event of a solar eclipse, the moon comes in between the Earth and the sun, blocking its light from reaching a small part of our planet. Partial eclipses, when some part of the sun remains visible, are the most common, making total eclipses a rare sight to behold.
Total eclipses can lead to a period of darkness lasting for several minutes, during which time nocturnal animals stir while confused birds and insects may fall silent, NASA says.
When a solar eclipse reaches totality, people are able to see the sun’s outer atmosphere called the corona, which is usually obscured by the sun's bright surface. This offers scientists an uncommon opportunity to study the corona .
Totality also offers spectators a chance to gaze upon the spectacular sight with the naked eye, though proper safety glasses are still required for the rest of the time.
What states are on the 2024 eclipse path of totality?
Mexico's Pacific coast will be the first location in continental North America to experience totality, which is expected to occur at about 11:07 a.m. PDT, according to NASA .
As the moon's shadow will northeast, totality in the U.S. will begin in Texas at 1:27 p.m. CDT. The path will then cut diagonally across the country, traveling through Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont and New Hampshire.
The eclipse's path is expected to end in Maine at 3:35 p.m. EDT before visiting the maritime provinces of Canada, according to estimates.
See interactive maps of the 2024 path .
