"I’m so excited to go back out on tour again in 2011! The 'Fearless Tour' was so much fun and even more unforgettable than I ever imagined, and I can't wait to get back out and play my new music from Speak Now! The fans have been so amazing and I'm thrilled to play in new cities around the world and meet even more of my fans in 2011!" [3]

While promoting her current album, Swift mentioned her excitement for her upcoming tour. She stated the tour was going to be "big" and "extensive". [4] On November 23, 2010, various media outlets—including Billboard Magazine announced the second tour by Swift. [5] It follows her successful Fearless Tour which played for over 100 dates in over five countries. The tour marked the singer's first tour to perform in stadiums. Before the tour commenced, Swift performed "The Allure of Taylor Swift" aboard the MS Allure of the Seas at the Allure of the Seas Aquatheater, as apart Royal Caribbean Cruises in January 2011. [6]

Speak Now World Tour 2011-2012 The “Speak Now World Tour” was Taylor’s second concert tour, launched in support of her third studio album, Speak Now (2010). It ran from February 2011 to March 2012 and grossed over $123 million. The show’s production was very theatrical and incorporated elements of Broadway musicals.

Looking back at Taylor Swift's 'Speak Now' ahead of re-recording's release

This is the story of "Speak Now."

"Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" is almost ours.

Just as "Speak Now" was Taylor Swift's third album released in her career, this new version is the singer's third re-recorded album. It drops on July 7, following in the footsteps of "Fearless (Taylor's Version)" and "Red (Taylor's Version)," both of which Swift released in 2021.

While "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" will put a twist on what fans loved about the original -- as well as delight them with new offerings -- it's time we went back to 2010 to revisit Swift's iconic album nearly 13 years later.

This is the story of "Speak Now."

Why the album was titled "Speak Now"

Despite "Speak Now" not being a single, Swift clearly felt a strong connection to it.

"I just kept going back to 'Speak Now,' because I think it's a metaphor for so many things we go through in life, that moment where it's almost too late, and you've gotta either say what it is you are feeling or deal with the consequences forever," she told New York Magazine in 2010 about settling on a title for the album.

In the booklet that accompanied the album, Swift elaborated on what the phrase meant to her and how that related to the theme of the album.

"These songs are made up of words I didn't say when the moment was right in front of me," she wrote. "These songs are open letters. Each is written with a specific person in mind, telling them what I meant to tell them in person."

What Swift said about the songs on "Speak Now"

Swift also said she considers the songs on "Speak Now" to be different "emotions."

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in 2010, she explained, "There are some that are about infatuation and adoration and the positive, magical feelings of love. But then there are the ones that deal with when it goes wrong, which it oftentimes does, and all the different ways that it can go wrong, and all the different ways it can make you feel, and all the different phases of that you go through."

As for why it was important for her to write all the songs herself, Swift said it was about proving those who doubt her wrong.

"When I was 18, they were like, 'She doesn't really write those songs.' So my third album I wrote by myself as a reaction to that," she told Rolling Stone in 2019 when reflecting on "Speak Now."

What awards "Speak Now" won

"Speak Now" received album of the year nominations from the Academy of Country Music Awards and the Country Music Association Awards, winning top country album at the Billboard Music Awards.

In terms of the Grammys, the album was nominated for best country album and ultimately took home two trophies for the song "Mean": best country solo performance and best country song.

How the album -- and its songs -- performed on the charts

When "Speak Now" debuted, 11 songs from the album made the Billboard Hot 100 -- the most ever by a female artist at the time.

No songs hit No. 1 on the chart, but "Mine" reached the highest spot at No. 3, followed closely behind by "Back to December," which topped out at No. 6, and the title track, which peaked at No. 8.

"If This Was a Movie," one of the songs off the deluxe version that was left off the tracklist for the re-release, climbed to No. 10.

The album "Speak Now" spent six weeks in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart and 186 weeks on the chart in total.

What Swift has said about the "Speak Now" re-release

Swift announced "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" when performing in Nashville during her Eras Tour back in May.

"I always looked at this album as my album, and the lump in my throat expands to a quivering voice as I say this. Thanks to you, dear reader, it finally will be," she wrote in a statement posted to Instagram.

Also in the Instagram post, Swift opened up about her experience writing the album between the ages of 18 and 20, saying, "The songs that came from this time in my life were marked by their brutal honesty, unfiltered diaristic confessions and wild wistfulness."

"I love this album because it tells a tale of growing up, flailing, flying and crashing … and living to speak about it," she added.

Swift unveiled the tracklist for "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)" in June, revealing that it will feature six songs from the vault in addition to the songs we already know and love.

Better yet, these new tunes will also feature some emo vibes as Fall Out Boy is featured on "Electric Touch" and Paramore's Hayley Williams is featured on "Castles Crumbling."

Of collaborating with these artists, Swift said she felt they "influenced me most powerfully as a lyricist" at the time of the original "Speak Now" release," calling them "cool and generous" for supporting her on this new version of the album.

The other songs from the vault include "When Emma Falls in Love," "I Can See You," "Foolish One" and "Timeless."

The Eras Tour Was Taylor Swift’s Biggest Outing Yet, But It Was Far From Her First

City by city, song by song, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has quickly become of the highest-grossing (and buzziest) tours in music history. Spanning the entire length of Swift’s discography, Taylor honors each of her previous musical/aesthetic “eras” with a dedicated section on her setlist, allowing fans to relive the feeling of each album, if only for a moment.

But while the Eras Tour brings each album together on one mega-tour, it’s hardly the first time Taylor has been around, or even the first time she’s embarked on a stadium tour. From humble beginnings to sold-out shows across the globe, here’s a breakdown of all of Taylor Swift’s tours, in chronological order.

Fearless Tour

As most Swifties know, Taylor’s first album was a self-titled country pop record with singles like “Teardrops on My Guitar,” “Our Song,” and “Tim McGraw.” Taylor did tour during the release of Taylor Swift, but not as a headliner—she supported her first album by performing as an opening act for larger artists at the time like Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Faith Hill, and Keith Urban.

But while Taylor Swift was her first album, it wasn’t her first tour—that honor belongs to the Fearless Tour, which kicked off in April 2009 and ran through July 2010. The tour played a total of 105 shows (mostly across North America) including limited stops in Asia, Europe, and Australia. Kellie Pickler joined Taylor as an opening act, with artists like then-boyfriend John Mayer, Katy Perry, and Faith Hill appearing at certain performances as surprise guests. Though the tour didn’t get a concert film, Taylor Swift: Journey to Fearless was released as a 3-episode docuseries, documenting the behind-the-scenes of the tour.

Speak Now World Tour

Taylor’s first proper world tour, the Speak Now World Tour , began in February 2011 and featured a total of 111 performances, including seven in Asia and 12 in Europe. In addition to being her first world tour, Speak Now was also Taylor’s first stadium tour and featured more extensive set pieces, choreography, and costuming than the Fearless tour. Speak Now ‘s openers included NeedToBreathe, Hunter Hayes, and Hot Chelle Rae, and it was the first Taylor tour attended by yours truly. A concert film, Taylor Swift: Speak Now World Tour Live , was recorded to accompany the tour.

The Red Tour

Two years later, Taylor was back on the road with the Red Tour, which kicked off in March of 2013 and ran through June of 2014, with a total of 86 performances across the globe. In addition to continuing to bump up the tour’s production value through costuming, choreography, and set design, the Red tour also featured the introduction of surprise songs, which changed night-to-night. Certain Red tour dates also featured Taylor bringing out a surprise guest and singing one of their songs as a duet. Highlights of Red tour guests included Taylor singing “Jenny From the Block” with Jennifer Lopez, “You’re So Vain” with Carly Simon, and “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark” with Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump.

Unlike previous installments, there was no concert film version of the Red tour.

The 1989 World Tour

Following Red was the 1989 World Tour, beginning in May 2015 and ending December of the same year for a total of 85 shows. The 1989 World Tour featured the return of the Surprise Songs mechanic, and hosted Vance Joy, Shawn Mendes, Rae Morris, and Haim as opening acts. Haim would also go on to return as an opening act for the Eras Tour, as well as guest star in the Bejeweled music video and feature on an evermore track.

One of the tour stops in Sydney was recorded for a concert film version of the tour called The 1989 World Tour Live —prior to the Eras Tour, that Sydney performance held the record for Swift’s most-attended performance, with 75,980 Swifties in attendance.

Reputation Stadium Tour

Though Taylor had previously performed at plenty of stadiums on tour, the Reputation Stadium Tour was Swift’s first all-stadium tour, playing May through November of 2018 for a total of 53 shows—her shortest tour to date. Openers for reputation included Camila Cabello, Charli XCX, and Broods, some of whom would join Taylor during the set for “Shake it Off.” As with her previous tours, reputation featured surprise songs at each show and a number of surprise guests at certain performances, this time including Troye Sivan, Selena Gomez, and Niall Horan.

A performance in Arlington was recorded for a concert film called Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour , which was released by (but recently taken off of) Netflix. Fans speculate that reputation leaving Netflix could be related to the fact that Taylor has yet to re-record her masters for reputation .

A sixth tour, Lover Fest, was originally scheduled for April through August of 2020, but was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The tour would’ve featured Swift’s then-first performance in Brazil, and would also have been the first time Swift’s tour dates included stops at previously organized festivals. Because there was no tour, there’s no Lover concert film, but Swift did release City of Lover , a recording of a one-off concert in Paris, as a tv special in May of 2020.

The Eras Tour

Last but certainly not least is, of course, The Eras Tour , which is currently ongoing and kicked off in March of 2023. We’ve previously done a full breakdown of the Eras setlist, which features glimpses into all of Swift’s previous albums, but focuses most heavily on those she was unable to tour because of COVID— Lover, folklore, evermore, and Midnights. A concert film, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour , was released in theaters and is currently available to rent on streaming.
