Pefkos or Pefki,  Greek : Πεύκος (Πεύκοι), is a well known beach resort located on eastern coast of  Rhodes , just 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) southwest of  Lindos , and 43 kilometres (27 mi) from the capital city  Rhodes . The island of  Rhodes  is the largest of the Dodecanese islands, on the eastern Aegean Sea, just a few miles from the coast of the  Asia Minor . Pefkos was once known as a fishermen's hamlet located along the coastal road that connects the villages of  Lindos  and  Lardos . Originally Pefkos was mainly used as a summer temporary residence for those who lived further inland but grew crops such as grapes, olives, tomatoes, figs and corn. They couldn't return home daily due to the heat and distance, so had small very basic houses in Pefkos. Visiting Pefkos by day will leave one with the impression of a quiet and relaxed holiday resort; however when the lights come on the resort is bustling with warm, friendly activity.

The main Pefkos beach (Lee beach) is a pure sand beach and is a  Blue Flag status  awarded beach for 2008. The beach is busy with tourists during the day, currently there are 3 restaurants on the waterfront. The beach is quiet, with no motorised watersports. 

Pefkos, until recently was under developed, but is now swiftly evolving in an important tourist resort, mostly offering self-catering holiday accommodation (villas and apartments) while its commercial center has many amenities and a large range of restaurants, tavernas and bars. The resort is set against a hill which is surrounded by  Pine  trees from which the town gets its name

Frequently Asked

How long is the transfer from the airport to resort?

The airport is approx. 55km from Pefkos. A private taxi transfer will take approx. 45 mins - 1 hour depending on day/time of arrival.

A coach transfer (tour operator coach) will vary from between 1-2 and half hrs depending on how many drop offs they might have.

How much is a private taxi transfer from the airport?

Approx. 80 Euros but dependant on who you book with or if you simply take a taxi upon arrival.

I arrive late in the evening, will anywhere be open?

Most restaurants serve food until around 10:30pm. However most fast food establishments remain open well into the night. Supermarkets typically close between 11pm - midnight.

All bars are open well into the night and there is no set "last orders" time.

Music is stopped between 12-1pm unless the establishment is soundproof/enclosed.

Can I order groceries to be available in my room when I arrive?

Depending on where you stay this may be possible. For example Matina offer this service via ABC supermarket. Other hotels (Linda Thalassa, Pefkos Beach, Pefki Island, Island Blue, Stella, Finas) have a supermarket as part of their facilities and may be able to offer this service if you contact them directly. If you are not staying at any of the above properties then ABC supermarket might be able to help. Please go to www.abconline.gr where they may be able to deliver to you accommodation. If in doubt, contact your tour operator or the accommodation directly to enquire.

When can I swim in the sea?

The sea here in resort is extremely clean and the beach is sandy and has a low slope gradient making swimming conditions perfect.

Will I need Air Conditioning?

This is down to personal preference, Almost certainly in July and August you will need AC. However some people prefer to open windows or use a fan if provided (please check that your accommodation allow the use of fans). It is unlikely that you will need AC in May or October as the weather is much more bearable and we experience some breezes which help to cool things down but again this is personal preferences.

Is there an ATM in resort?

Will I be charged for withdrawing cash in resort?

Almost certainly but the best advice would be to check with your own bank before you travel. They may not charge but offer a very low exchange rate - always best to check first to avoid a nasty surprise when you get back home. You will probably NOT be able to obtain a balance from the ATM's in resort.

Where can I pay by card?

All restaurants and supermarkets will accept car payments although some may have a minimum amount and not all accept American Express. Some bars will accept card payments but most bars only accept payment in cash.

Where is the nearest bank?

The nearest bank is Alpha bank just off the main square in Lindos. there are no banks in Pefkos.

Things to do...

Is there a local bus service?

Yes, there is a good bus service which goes to both the North and South of the Island and offers several bus stops along the main Pefkos road. Bus timetables are available in resort at the bus stops. There is also a free bus service daily to the Waterpark. Timetable is outside Pefkos By Night bar, Enigma Restaurant and Finas bus stops.

Can I book a day trip in resort?

Yes, there are several local travel offices which offer fantastic day trips. Examples of some of the trips are: Rhodes by Day, Rhodes by Night, Symi, Island Tour, Waterpark, Butterflies, Jungle Tour. All travel offices offer a brochure with trip descriptions and prices.

Are there any local festivals?

Yes, there is a regular “Greek Night” in Lardos which is usually every 2 weeks during the season (see the FOP main page for dates). There are also other local festivals organised by Mypefkos which are advertised locally in resort and on the Fop page. There is an annual beach party in Pefkos and Lindos. Lindos also hosts an annual medieval festival and Music Week. Please keep an eye on our FOP facebook page as all local events are advertised on there.

What activities can I do in resort?

Of course most hotels/studios offer swimming pools which are free to use for all visitors (even people not staying there) on the basis that you purchase food and drink from them.

There are also 4 beaches in Pefkos (Kavos, Pefkos main beach (Lee Beach), St. Thomas and Plakia).

Scuba diving is available and advertised locally.

Water sports are available on Pefkos main beach (in front of flyers beach bar) and in Lothiarika.

Fishing trips are available, enquiries at the waterspouts on the main beach.

The glass bottom boat trip is a firm favourite, prices and booking details are available on several signs located around the resort. Due to high demand we recommend you pre-book a seat on the trip during high season. Hippo submarine is another experience which is worth exploring, this is located in Pefkos but do find their Facebook page to book and see the sea from a different view.

Beer and burgers is another firm favourite and they will pick you up from resort. We also recommend booking this in advanced for high season, it is a fun day out for all ages with some water slides and amazing burgers.

Does anywhere offer live entertainment?

Several bars offer live entertainment shows throughout the season. They are all advertised outside on the boards. There are also several bars which offer Karaoke night and Elia restaurant also do a weekly Greek night which can be booked directly at Elia restaurant. Palm Bay hotel also offer greek nights too.

Can I watch sports?

Lots of bars offer sports and most are advertised on boards outside. If you can’t find what you’re looking for please do go inside and speak to the owner, they are usually more than happy to find what you’re looking for.

Are there any childrens play areas?

Several bars offer good childrens play areas (Angel, Harmony, Jasmine to name a few). Some restaurants offer a childrens play area.

Car hire is available in resort and can be pre-booked prior to arrival or booked in resort. Car hire is only available for drivers who are over 21 years old and hold a full uk driving licence which you will be required to present. If you wish to hire a car during high season you may wish to book in advance due to high demand. Quad’s are not available to hire in the resort of Pefkos.

    restaurants but it is advisable to visit the restaurant to discuss your specific requirement prior to eating there.

The following facilities for Children are available:

•  High chairs available in all restaurants.
•  Cot beds/high chairs available in rooms free of charge but must be arranged via tour

     operator or directly with owner prior to arrival.

•  Kids Club (available only at specific Hotels and only available for guests at Hotel –

     check with your Tour Operator)

•  Nappies, baby wipes and baby food (cow and gate etc.) can be purchased in most supermarkets.
• Baby milk (powdered) is available from some supermarkets and the pharmacy (this will be a Greek brand and not SMA or UK brand).
•  Baby bottles/dummies are available from some supermarkets and the pharmacy.
•  Most restaurants serve childrens meals and will heat up baby food and bottles.
•  Most bars and restaurants offer baby change.....but not all!
•  Child car seats are available with car hire, may be chargeable and should be requested in advance. Taxis and coaches do NOT have car seats.

Miscellaneous

There are several cat feeding stations in Pefkos where you can feed the stray cats or leave water. These are provided by the local Hotels and mypefkos and the aim is not only to keep the cat population healthy but also to ensure that cats don’t congregate around bins or in restaurants and cause a nuisance. Guests are encouraged NOT to feed cats in their rooms or on balconies (as tempting as this may be) as cats will return after you have left and the next guest may not be a cat lover. There are also several cat money donation tins in resort for any spare change that you may have. These donations go towards the neutering programme and the winter feeding programme.

We do have mosquitoes and they are more prevalent in May, June, September and October. You can buy mosquito spray repellent and plug in repellent in the local supermarkets along with bite treatments. Plug in repellents are recommended as few rooms offer mosquito nets or door/window nets.

The nearest hospital is just outside Rhodes Town. There is also a medical drop in centre in Lindos (next to Ampitheatre) and Archangelos.

The Emergency service number is 112.

The nearest police station is in Lindos (short walk from Lindos Reception – follow signpost). The local Town Hall is in Lindos (St. Pauls Bay).

The nearest dentist is in Kalathos (approx. 10 km). The nearest Post Office is in Lindos.

Villa rental can be found if requested on the FOP page or via homeaway or owners direct webpage.

Flights from the UK to Rhodes are mainly Wednesday and Saturday but new flights and days are being introduced every year.

Check out for most rooms is between 10 – 12 noon on day of departure. Late check out can usually be organised with the Hotel/Owner and is subject to a charge. Some hotels will offer free luggage storage and a room to change/shower for your last day.

--> --> --> I recently had the pleasure of visiting Pefkos Beach in Rhodes, and I must say it left a lasting impression. This stunning sandy beach offers warm, crystal-clear waters that invite you to take a refreshing dip. The natural beauty of the surroundings truly adds to the charm of the place. When it comes to sunbathing and relaxation there is an abundance of sun beds available for hire for all preferences and budgets. Some sun beds come equipped with cool boxes and lockable safes to ensure the safety of your valuables, although they tend to be slightly pricier. One of the highlights of Pefkos Beach is its convenient proximity to a variety of dining options. You'll find numerous eateries nearby, allowing you to indulge in delicious meals just steps away from the shoreline. Additionally, there are friendly beach vendors who stroll along the beach, offering refreshing fruits for sale - a nice treat on a sunny warm day. Note that Pefkos Beach can get quite breezy, particularly as the day progresses. However, this breeze can provide a welcome respite from the heat, creating a pleasant and comfortable atmosphere for sunbathers and beachgoers.

I really loved it because it’s possible to stay in the water and swim for long times and still be in shallow waters. There is an abundance of sun beds available for hire. Some sunbeds are equipped with a lockable safe box for your valuables, but they are priced higher. There are plenty of eating options close by. You can hire a boat if you like. There are also some watersport options available like Jet Skis. The breeze can be a little strong at times, but it's rather a welcome relief during the hottest part of the day.

--> --> --> Pefkos is a beautiful place to visit, the sun, sea and the relaxed feeling, I have been to Pefkos twice and loved it both times. I really cannot wait to go back. It's a lovely walk down to the beach, I love the beach, the views and the shopping area. there is plenty of bars and Restaurants. the people are very friendly. Traveling from Pefkos to other parts of the island is easy because the bus stops are not far from the hotels. You can easily visit Rhodes town, Lindos, and Lardos and other places in between. I love it!

We get lots of lovely welcomes when we go into any place the Pefkos by night bar is the best place to go at night as they have air conditioning to keep you cool at night and the staff are friendly and funny cant wait to see them all again!

--> --> --> Went to Pefkos first time in Oct 2008 and loved it.Went back in Oct 2011.Stayed in the Matina apts, basic but clean. It was alomost like we had never been away, everyone remembered us and we got a great welcome.Weather was great, as it had been the last time we were there. Everyone was so friendly, all the resturants we visited had a wide choice of great food but our favourite was DAMA DAMA on the beach road,Sam was a great host. In the morning we went to the FUSE BAR also on the beach road for breakfast and at night for drinks Keriakos AKA Jack was a fantastic host as was his brother Costas. We can recommend Pefkos as a holiday to remember. we will be going back this year.

--> --> --> First went to Pefkos in 2006. We stayed at the Finas. This year (July 2011) stayed at the Zakis, right ata the top of the hill. Good exercise only put on 2 lbs in a fortnight. Had a great time, lovely family at the Zakis and the restaurants in Pefkos were great. Rock Garden is a great place to be, we joined Yani and the boss each night, for shots and complimentary Jaeger bombs and great music, untill the early hours. We certainly wont wait another 5 years before we return.

Lindos has the Market, The Bars, The Dancing, The Water Sports, The Boat Trips, The Fun is in Lindos, The Explorer Has Lots to do in Perfki... And a CHEAP BUS RIDE to Rhodes town is a must, costs around £2.80 return, and the Harbour is a lovely sight, The Cats are in there 100's But are all cared for and well kept... all being Nursed now too! Great places to eat, Lovely beach. I have recommended Pefkos to friends and family and all return after visiting. Its a true Gem of a holiday so much so i`m due to fly out for two glorious weeks on the 21st May 2011. By the way its 10 degrees hotter than Rhodes Town.

--> --> --> Just returned from Pefkos, our second visit there. We normally holiday in June/July so October was late for us, and we were unsure how the weather would be and whether the resort would be still up and running as they all wind down for the winter months. We stayed at the Pefkos Beach Hotel (2nd time) and had a fab time again. The Hotel was as we remebered ..very welcoming, nothing too much trouble and the staff great. It is nice to find a Hotel which is still run by a family offering a very simple laid back holiday for all. The staff turnover at the Hotel is virtually nil and it was nice to see familiar faces all around. The resort was in winding down mode but that did not mean everywhere was closed, in fact most restaurants, bars and shops in resort were all open if a little quiet, however that suited us fine. The weather was mixed although we had our fair share of sunny days and the one heavy storm was a welcome relief and over very quickly. Don't go in October if you want wall to wall sunshine and it did get chilly some nights but during the day it was very pleasant indeed. We will be going back to Pefkos and the Pefkos Beach Hotel I am sure. Knowing that we will have a great time.

--> --> --> Stayed in Lardos last year, and after a visit to Pefkos decided it was the place to stay this year. Had a fantastic 10 days staying at the Island Blue which was one of the nicest holiday resort hotels I've ever stayed in. Three pools, great bar and pool bar and really nice restaurant. Brilliant friendly staff for who nothing was too much trouble. Spoiled for choice at night but we particularly liked The Rock Garden bar. As for eating, take your pick. We had a couple of fabulous meals in Enigma, and also enjoyed Annexis, Zorbas and Spitaki.If there wern't so many posts saying how good it is I would keep quiet about it , but the words out, so if you're undecided where to go, try Pefkos. I doubt you'll be disappointed. Finally although a little expensive An evening meal on a roof top restaurant in Lindos is a must. Can see us retuning many more times.

--> --> --> Went last year for 1st time and returning again in 3 days!! just cant wait as its all you could possibly want from a holiday, great apartments (pefki islands) great restaurants, lovely people and sun every day! We have never booked the same resort twice but think we've found somewhere we definately want to return to again and again, and as for Lindos, the most charming beautiful place ever, you will not be disappointed

--> --> --> For all the people i've been reading about this being their first ime in Pefkos you will love it, this will be our 5th year in a trot in Pefkos, staying in various places. you must try Terpsis restaurant, fantastic food. for an afternoon snack Flyers Beach Bar is the best place to go, Nikos is probably the friendliest person in the town and has his own plane which he can take you around the bays for a small charge. We can't wait for August so as we can relax in this great, friendly place again, if you are staying at the Stella Apartments see you by the pool.

--> --> --> We went to Pefkos last year after falling in love with Rhodes on a days cruise stop over the previous year. To 'Honest Ben' - Hire a car and take the road to Falaraki- about half an hour along the road there is a sign to the right saying 'three lovely beaches'. This leads you to three separate coves, each unique and interesting - with a great taverna on each. One in particular has several rock pools you have to walk across (deep enough to sit in to cool down) to the edge of the pools where ther are steps into cold , deep. Wonderful, quiet,and idyllic.

--> --> --> Well after about a 4 year break decided it's time to go back to Pefki, booked for 15th Sept 2010.can't wait to see how it's changed, went 5 yeras on the trot at least twice a year. This is one of the most friendly places we have ever being to, I'm hoping it' still the same, the people were great, food good and the weather always seemed to be hot, staying at Apostolis Studios again and can't wait to see how everyone has grown, Alexandra's great place for an afternoon drink and snack if your hungry, then back up to Anixis to watch the sun go down while having another drink, lets hope it's still as good as I remember it.

--> --> --> Going to pefkos tomorrow, this will be my 13th time - almost feel like ive grown up there! There are loads of amazing places to eat and drink but my top 5 would be; armetis, nostalgia, enigma, terpsis, smiles. Wild west bar is a must, eclipse and pefkos by night are also good for some music and drinks at night. Locals are so friendly, never been anywhere else and felt so welcome. Kids are well looked after, there is very little crime. Also, take a visit to the glistra beach in lardos - beautiful!

--> --> --> We first visited in August 2007 and completely fell in love with the place, we stayed at the Karpathios, basic but very clean, good breakfast, nice pool, some fun greek dancing nights, a little downhill walk to the beach but we enjoyed the exercise. We are going back in 6 days time and taking our daughters with us this time. I don't tend to go back to places I have been to, as there are so many places to see in the world, however I am going back to Pefkos and know for sure it won't be the last time. --> --> --> Pefki was a beautiful unspoilt place when my sister and i visited it in 2001 we have not been back for financial reasons. The people we met, both greek and euopean were absolutely wonderful, the Nostalgia restaurant was very friendly, and very good food. We tried all the restaurants in the area,but settled on the Nostalgia as our favourite. I hope Pefki has not been spoiled, as there were building projects in progress when we were there. We stayed at the Finas appts, and found it basic but very clean and friendly We have been back to Rhodos and stayed in Trianda and although BLUE NOTE beach bar was a brilliant live music bar and Michalis is an excellent saxophonist, and his son a lovely man, we found it a litttle too out of the way, as we had to walk for a good 20 mins to reach them from our TREE TOPS app. Visit Pefki it is in easy reach of Lindos, a magical place!!! it gave me goose bumps as i have never felt before!!!!!! There's lots of restuaraunts and bars we never had a bad meal but our favorite's were Terpsis were we had a lovely meal for our annivarsary and Enigma both good food and good service, bars were Buddies nice owners and great music and Ell Mesaa. Pefkos is perfect for couples and families and has lovely beaches in other words Pefkos is perfect.

--> --> --> Returning for our fourth visit to Pefkos and the Matina Appts Sept 07. As a family resort, Pefkos is perfect - friendly people, an abudance of fantastic restaurants and lots of child-friendly bars. If you're looking for a wild time, then Pefkos is not for you - head to Faliraki instead. Although not typically Greek (name me one tourist resort in Greece that is these days!!), it is geared to the British tourist, but travel just a few miles outside Pefkos to Lardos or Archangelos and you get a feel for the real Greece. The main beach in Pefkos is perfect for kids and the resort has a very safe feel to it. The Greeks love children and our daughter has always been treated like royalty in every restaurant. Make the effort to walk up the steep hill to Tsambikos Restaurant above the bakery - in our opinion it is the best in Pefkos. Learn a few words of Greek and the locals will love it! We recommend Pefkos to anyone looking for a relaxing family holiday and can't wait to go back.

Unfortunately my husband was taken seriously ill whilst there and we couldn't have received better treatment from the locals or the brand new hospital. Already booked for 08 and can't wait! Stayed in kaiphos apartments, met some lovely people out there greeks are great, will definetly go there again next year. Loved every minute off it. So if you go or are going go to the eclipse bar its great there have a pool in there and you can jump from the edge into the pool great place. Loved it

I would wait now until you arrive in Pefkos and find out if any boat trips are being offered by the usual travel outlets in the centre. If not, maybe get the bus into Lindos (only 4km away) and see if any boat trips are running there.

Pefkos is a nice resort. I am quite sure not everywhere will be closing up next week and there will still be a selection of restaurants etc open for a little while yet.

I'm really surprised that places aren't staying open for half term. Surely there will be an influx of holiday makers now that restrictions have been lifted on travel.

People may be put off coming this late in the year. The weather cannot be guarnteed.

Justine, there will certainly be some restaurants that have decided to stay open for the coming week’s visitors. Staffing costs, electricity, all these things need to be taken into account when deciding whether or not to close up. Margins must be tight anyway this year, just like last season, so I’m sure if businesses thought they could still draw in enough customers to make a profit, they would definitely stay open. Clearly, some do not. It will be interesting to hear how busy Pefkos actually turns out to be and how full the restaurants are.

As an aside, we were in Pefkos during part of the May half-term week, about three years ago, and I was surprised at how many restaurants were almost empty. Maybe some people prefer to opt for half board with children 🤷🏽‍♀️.

Either way, I wish all those heading for Pefkos lots of sunshine and a great holiday!! 😊

Greek Story and Harmony are closed and our bar at Summer Memories shuts at 6 each day which is a bit of a bummer but I can understand why as only 10 rooms are occupied.

Other than that everything appears open as usual 🙂
