We hope your holiday goes to plan but take out a travel insurance policy with us so we can be there if something does go wrong.
Our holiday insurance covers everything from lost luggage to treatment for accident or injury. No matter how often or how long you plan to be away, we have the cover for you.
Multi-trip Travel Insurance
If you’re one of those lucky people planning more than one trip in the next year, we’re very jealous, but we should also let you know that AA Annual Travel Insurance is the best option. It covers you before, during and after your holiday.
Single Trip Travel Insurance
If you’re only planning one trip this year, our Single Trip Travel Insurance is specifically tailored for any one trip, up to 60 days in length.
Backpacker Travel Insurance
Whether you’re planning a gap year or just some time to get away from it all, our Backpacker Travel Insurance is specifically tailored to cover trips up to 365 days in length.
Compare Holiday Insurance Cover
AA offers three levels of cover; Value, Essential and Extra. If you’re looking for cheap holiday insurance covering just the basics then our Value Travel Insurance is for you. Our Essential Travel Insurance has all the basics but with a higher level of cover, while the Extra Travel Insurance provides our most comprehensive cover.
We’ve got you covered. We’ve done up a comparison of each of our policies here .
AA Members get more
We take particular pride in looking after our AA Members. That’s why AA Members get extra benefits when they buy an AA Extra Travel Insurance Policy. If you’re an AA Member at the time you take out Annual Travel Insurance, as well as the usual benefits, you can enjoy unlimited medical cover and no excess on any claim.
Whether you’re hitting the Blue Run or braving the Black Run, it’s important to make sure you have AA Winter Sports Cover on your Essential or Extra Travel Insurance policy. As well as the great benefits of AA Travel Insurance, adding Winter Sports covers you for things like your ski pass, lessons and equipment.
Make sure to add it to your Travel Insurance policy when you get a quote.
European Breakdown Cover
Imagine the panic when you’re driving through the French countryside, with the kids in the back and a boot full of luggage and the car dies. You can always rely on the AA to help you out, just make sure you’re covered.
With AA European Breakdown Cover, local garages across our European road network will be on standby should you experience any bumps on the road.
Car Hire Excess Cover
When you rent a car, it usually includes insurance but it’s worth noting that if the car is damaged or stolen an excess would still need to be paid. Reducing this excess will add a considerable cost to your car rental and can often come as a surprise when you get to the rental desk. For a small price, AA Car Hire Excess can be included in your AA Travel Insurance policy and will cover your excess costs in the event of a claim.
Making a Claim
Hopefully your holiday will go by without a hitch but if you need us we’re always here. To make a claim simply call claims assistance on 01 431 1204 from Ireland or +353 143 11204 if you are outside of Ireland, and quote AA Travel Insurance. Our claims team is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. To find out more about claims and what you should do in the event of an accident click on the link below.

Frequently asked questions
What countries does my selected cover^ for epidemic and pandemic diseases (including Covid-19) cover?
All countries that do not appear on the Level 4 warning “Do not travel” advisory listed on SafeTravel.
SafeTravel houses all warnings inclusive of non-Covid-19 advisories which are issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT).
If I contract Covid-19 prior to travelling do I have selected cover^ for epidemic and pandemic diseases?
Cover is in place, providing that the country you are travelling to does not have a MFAT, SafeTravel or New Zealand Government Level 4 warning “Do not travel” in place.
If I contract Covid-19 in transit to my destination country do I have selected cover^ for epidemic and pandemic diseases?
Cover is in place, providing that the countries you are travelling to do not have a MFAT, SafeTravel or New Zealand Government Level 4 warning “Do not travel” in place.
Does selected cover^ for epidemic and pandemic diseases still apply if I am unvaccinated?
Cover is in place as there is no requirement to be vaccinated/boosted under our policy. However, if the destination country requires an inbound traveller to be vaccinated, then the traveller must be able to meet these entry requirements. This also applies to the condition of carriage for example of the airline they are travelling. There is no cover if denied boarding or entry to a country due to not meeting the carrier or country vaccination requirements.
Are there any mandatory epidemic and pandemic insurance requirements to enter certain countries?
Many countries, even before the pandemic, had compulsory health and travel insurance requirements, but many more have since added rules – typically around Covid-19 medical expenses and the associated costs. The coverage type and amount varies by vaccination status and country. Prior to travelling, check with the nearest embassy, consulate or immigration department of the destination.
If I had Covid-19, should I declare this as a Pre-existing Medical Condition?
At the time of purchasing your policy if you have previously had Covid-19 and are now testing negative, are feeling well with no symptoms at all, then you do not need to declare this as a Pre-existing Medical Condition. A Covid-19 positive test result at a later date would be considered a new infection.
However, if you are:
- still testing positive; or
- still displaying Covid-19 signs and symptoms; or
- have been diagnosed with 'long Covid';
and you wish to have cover, you need to disclose the condition as a Pre-existing Medical Condition and an additional premium may be payable.

Experts are urging drivers to make sure they have the correct insurance before travelling abroad or they could face huge charges.
As the summer approaches, motorhome owners and campervan owners need to ensure their vehicle has significant insurance cover to allow them to drive in the EU, as without this, they can risk hefty fines.
While some owners may have a comprehensive policy, some insurers don’t cover as extensively for travel abroad with drivers urged to check their cover before hitting the road.
Insurance should not only include costs of a collision or damage to another vehicle, but also cover damage or even total write-off costs to the motorhome itself.
Do you have a story you'd like to share? Get in touch by emailing [email protected]
Motorhomes must have at least third party insurance to travel across Europe
Owners must manually extend their policy to include comprehensive cover for damage sustained abroad with drivers warned to not assume it is included.
The average cost of a new motorhome in the UK is around £60,000, but the average cost of a motorhome damage claim is roughly £10,150.
Dan Dawson, underwriting manager at Ripe Motorhome Insurance, said: “For motorhome and campervan owners, confusion around this particular policy detail is all too common – and it can be financially devastating in the event of an accident.
“Many of us will be excited to take a well-earned break this year but discovering that your policy doesn’t adequately cover you for damage can be very upsetting.”
Dawson warned that comprehensive doesn’t always mean comprehensive, which can leave motorhome owners stranded and paying for damage themselves.
He added: “We would therefore urge all motorhome and campervan owners to carefully check the small print of their documents or reach out to their provider for clarity.”
Before travelling abroad with a motorhome, drivers must register commercial trailers over 750kg and all trailers over 3,500kg gross weight before towing them through some European countries.
Depending on which country is travelled to, drivers may be required to get a separate green for motorhomes and anything towed by a motorised vehicle, including caravans and trailers.
These cards are usually issued by the vehicle insurer for a small fee to cover administration costs but drivers should double-check the rules and whether the policy covers this before travelling.
From September 2021, motorhomes alongside other vehicles are required to display a UK sticker on vehicles.
As for insurance cover, drivers are encouraged to check they are protected for breakdown roadside assistance, vehicle and passenger repatriation, continuation of holiday travel or accommodation.
Drivers should also have extensive medical cover and ski cover if they are going to mountainous areas for an adventure holiday.

Motorhomes generally cost around £60,000
According to the Caravan Club, motorhome insurance can provide cover towards the cost of repairs or replacements if a motorhome is damaged in an accident, fire or is stolen.
It detailed: “It must always provide cover for your legal liability towards third parties, so you're covered if you have an accident causing damage or injury to any other person, vehicle, animal or property.
“Third-party insurance is a minimum legal requirement if you have a motorhome that is being stored or used on the road.”

RV Rental Insurance: Why You Need it And What It Covers | Money
R enting a recreational vehicle remains popular, not least due to the trends to higher hotel costs and lower gas prices compared with the pandemic levels for both expenses. (Gas prices really count for RVs, since they can travel as little as 4 miles on a gallon of gas, according to rental site RVShare.)
But before you get the keys to one of these hotel-rooms-on-wheels, be aware that RV rental insurance can be more complicated – and a lot pricier – to get than coverage for a rental car. Insurance can add upwards of $20 per day to your RV rental costs if you find you aren’t covered by your car insurance at home. And some strategies to eliminate or reduce the cost of insurance for rental cars don’t work for rental RVs; for example, it’s very unlikely you can rely on free coverage through using a particular credit card.
Here’s what you need to know about insuring your mobile home-away-from-home, including tips on finding and buying from the best RV insurance companies.

How does RV Rental Insurance Work?
Like rental car insurance, RV rental insurance offers temporary insurance coverage while driving an RV, camper van or travel trailer. You can buy RV insurance through your RV rental company if your regular auto insurance doesn’t already cover it, at least in part.
Some rental companies let you choose your level of coverage. They then bundle the cost of your insurance policy with your daily rental cost, so you don’t have to worry about making multiple payments.
Because RVs are generally larger and come with more hazards than standard cars, comprehensive coverage is typically more expensive for these vehicles than for a rental car —$70 per day or more, in some cases. Still, renting a small RV is one of the cheapest ways to take a road trip , so that extra insurance cost may be well worth it in the long run.
What does RV Rental Insurance Cover?
RV rental insurance policies cover physical damage to the vehicle while you’re renting it. They also cover your liability if you get into an accident while driving — meaning you won’t have to pay out of pocket for damage caused to another driver’s vehicle. Here’s an overview of what to expect from your RV insurance coverage:
Basic liability coverage is required whenever you rent a car or RV. Each state has its own minimum liability coverage requirements, so you’ll need at least the amount of coverage required in the state where you rent your RV.
The most basic coverage could leave you vulnerable
The most basic RV insurance, whether added by the RV agency or bought by you, generally provides only the state minimum levels of liability. Those levels likely offer less protection than your auto insurance policy and less than experts such as Consumer Reports and the Insurance Information Institute recommend.
An RV has more components that you could damage than a typical car. If you pay for comprehensive coverage on top of collision and liability protection, confirm that it will cover you for, say, fire and smoke damage should you start a fire with the RV’s stove.
To avoid being underinsured, consider increasing the liability you carry on the RV, despite the additional cost. Moving up from the state minimums to a more-than-ample $1,000,000 in liability costs an extra $14.95 a day with MBA Insurance. RVshare’s basic coverage is included in its rentals but only to state liability minimums of up to $100,000, according to the insurer’s website. Stepping up to the Preferred package triples the liability coverage to $300,000 (an amount many experts recommend) but requires you to pay an additional $21 and up a day in premiums.
Your home insurance should cover your personal possessions
As when renting a car, the items you bring from home to the RV should be protected by your homeowners or renters insurance . So you should be made whole if items are stolen or damaged while in the vehicle.
Some caveats do apply to such protection under your home insurance. For starters, the same deductible — likely of $500 or more — applies just as it would as for any other claim under your policy. That means you’ll get little or nothing back unless the value of what’s stolen is substantial.
Also, keep in mind that as with a claim for a loss at home, making a claim for personal items lost during an RV rental could risk an increase in your home insurance premium when you renew. Also, you might face limits on the coverage of valuable items such as jewelry under your home policy, unless you’ve added extra-cost policy “floaters” or “endorsements” for those items.
You can also protect yourself by buying a stand-alone travel insurance policy, which will cover theft of your belongings together with other perils, such as trip cancellation due to accident or illness. A policy typically costs 5% to 12% of the trip’s cost, according to travel expert Rick Steves. He recommends considering if you really require coverage and, if so, making sure that the policy you buy covers your most valuable possessions.
How to get RV Rental Insurance
There are a few different ways to get RV rental insurance: through the rental company, through your auto insurance company or through a third-party insurer. Here’s what’s involved with each.
1. Through the rental company
If you aren’t covered by your own car insurance, you can buy a policy for the RV as an add-on during the rental process. Chances are you will rent your RV from either a commercial rental business or through sharing sites such as RVshare or Outdoorsy. Either way, if you lack your own insurance, you will likely be offered it as part of the transaction. Rental platforms like RVshare can bundle your insurance cost with the daily cost of your rental.
2. Through your auto insurance provider
Before you buy an RV insurance policy from your rental company, check that you aren’t already covered by your auto insurance. Car renters benefit from their auto insurer extending much of the same coverage to the cars they rent as to the vehicles they own. While not all companies allow such coverage for an RV, it’s worth a call to your insurance company to find out.
Even companies that allow it may not do so in all states or for especially long rentals — say, of more than a month. Companies that generally extend coverage include USAA, according to a spokesperson, and State Farm, which allows coverage of an RV in most states under your auto insurance for up to 30 days with no advance notice required, according to public affairs senior specialist Anna Bryant.
However, you should confirm that your collision coverage will extend to the full value of the RV, which will very likely be more than the value of your own car. State Farm is among the insurers that offer this extension, says Bryant. “We understand there may be times we could end up settling a claim on a rented vehicle for more than we would for an owned vehicle.”
3. Through a third-party insurance provider
Some agencies and sharing sites simply arrange to send their renters over to an RV insurance company with whom they contract, such as MBA Insurance. There, the renter selects and pays for the level of coverage they want.
If you’re renting your RV from an individual RV owner on Outdoorsy or another site, they might offer temporary coverage and roadside assistance through a platform like Roamly, which covers the renter and owner together.
What to consider before choosing RV Rental Insurance
Before you start shopping for RV insurance, here are a few important considerations to keep in mind.
1. Insurance requirements
Ensure you’re clear on the insurance requirements in the state in which you’re renting the RV. These requirements might be different from those in your home state. The basic insurance plan offered by your RV rental company should meet local bodily injury liability and property damage liability requirements.
2. The value of the RV
If you get into an accident and your insurance coverage is lower than the cost of damages to your RV, you might be liable to pay the difference. That’s why it’s essential to know your vehicle’s value and insure yourself accordingly.
If you’re renting a pop-up trailer or fifth wheel, the value of your rental is probably lower than a Class C RV or camper van. Talk to your rental company about the value of your RV before committing to a plan.
3. Deductibles
Along with choosing your level of coverage, you must select your deductible. A higher deductible can sometimes mean a lower premium. However, you will have to pay that higher amount in case of an accident, so you shouldn’t consider a low deductible as an easy way to cut costs without giving through to how much you could actually afford to pay if the worst were to happen.
4. Additional coverage options
Your RV rental company or third-party insurer might offer additional coverage options, such as towing and labor, roadside assistance, glass replacement and more. Additional coverage isn’t required to rent your RV, but it might provide more peace of mind as you set out on your road trip.
What is the average cost of RV Rental Insurance?
On average, RV rental insurance costs between $15 and $30 per day, but it could be many times higher than that, depending on the extent of coverage and the value of your RV.
Factors that affect RV insurance cost
Determining the cost of your RV insurance policy are a number of considerations, including:
- The type of RV (Class A, B or C, or a travel trailer). Class A motorhomes generally have the highest insurance premiums, while a policy on a tent trailer or fifth wheel is generally more affordable.
- The age of the RV
- State minimum liability requirements
- Your driving record
- Any add-on coverage you choose
- The deductible you select
5 tips for finding the right RV Rental Insurance
You can’t skip the need for insurance if you’re renting an RV. But you can take some time to compare your options and ensure you’re getting the best coverage for your trip, experience and budget.
1. Check with your auto insurer first
Before you buy an insurance policy from your RV rental company, check with your auto insurer. Chances are high that you’re covered under your normal auto insurance, although the odds drop significantly if you’re renting a larger RV (that weighs more than 12,000 lbs) or for a period of 30 days or more. Your insurance company might also offer additional temporary coverage for the length of your trip.
2. Know the value of your RV
Even if you haven’t picked out the exact RV you want to rent, you should know your vehicle’s class and estimated value before you start comparing policies.
3. Consider your priorities
If you need to pay for coverage, are you prepared to pay a higher deductible for a lower premium? What add-on coverage, if any, do you want for your trip? Review your options and ensure you know the type of coverage you’re looking for before requesting a quote.
4. Get quotes from multiple providers
Whether you’re buying insurance from a rental company or a third-party provider, ask for an insurance quote before you buy your policy. Comparing quotes can help you get the best deal for the coverage you’re looking for.
5. Make sure your personal possessions are covered by your home insurance
Adequate coverage is about more than the RV itself. Check whether your homeowners or renters insurance provider will cover loss or damage to your personal items while you’re on the road.
What are the Best RV Rental Insurance Companies?
Plenty of companies that offer auto, home and travel insurance also offer RV rental insurance. Here’s a quick breakdown of three popular RV insurance providers.
Keep in mind that these are third-party providers. You should compare quotes from these companies with your rental company’s policy to make sure you’re getting the best deal.
- Nationwide: Multiple discount options available, optional towing coverage, and the option to bundle with your auto or renters insurance
- Progressive: Flexible deductibles, offers accident forgiveness, optional roof malfunction and pet injury coverage
- Good Sam: RV-specific insurance agency that’s ideal for full-time RVers

The 2024 Irish House Insurance Landscape: A Comprehensive Guide to Home Protection Rates
Published 18th April 2024 Read Time 6 min
In addition to offering financial protection against unanticipated circumstances home insurance also offers peace of mind. It is the silent protector of domestic tranquillity. Every year the price of this insurance varies leaving many homeowners unsure of what is fair and what is too expensive in their area. In Ireland as 2024 progresses the average cost of home insurance reflects a combination of factors related to property personal risk profiles and economic conditions. With the help of this comprehensive analysis you as the homeowner should be able to protect your house without going over budget.
Understanding the Significance of Home Insurance Ireland
It’s vital to emphasize the importance of home insurance before getting into the numbers. The weather in Ireland, a busy island nation, is notoriously erratic and unpredictable. Natural disasters pose a constant challenge to residential buildings ranging from strong coastal storms to moist conditions that lead to mildew growth. The typical home is extremely vulnerable to dangers such as fire burglary and many others.
As a safeguard against severe financial hardship that may arise from such incidents home insurance kicks in. Homeowners can rest easy knowing that their houses are safe from disasters when they have a comprehensive policy in place. However, how much does this assurance cost and what conditions must be met?.
Key Influences on Home Insurance Premiums
Home insurance Ireland rates are not set in stone, rather they are carefully determined by taking into account a number of essential factors related to both the homeowners circumstances and the property. To calculate the premium insurers, evaluate the degree of risk involved in covering a property. Important influences consist of:
Type of Home
Your home’s age and architecture are important. Because of the potential risks associated with outdated systems older structures may be more expensive. The quote you receive may also vary depending on the materials used in the construction.
Property Location
More than anything else location determines the degree of risk. Is the location of your house near a known burglary hotspot or prone to flooding? Each of these factors is given a vulnerability score and your premium is changed appropriately.
Personal Circumstances
Important factors are your credit score and claims history. Your rates may increase if you have a recent history of large-scale claims or if your credit score isn’t the best. However lowering your risk profile can be achieved by adopting preventative measures like installing a home security system.
Strategies to Manage and Reduce Your Home Insurance Costs
The good news is that insurance companies don’t have complete control over you. You can use the following techniques to control or even lower the cost of your home insurance :
Shop Around
Never accept the first estimate you are given. Comparing at least three quotes can be enlightening as different insurance companies offer different deals.
Bundle Your Policies
Think about using the same insurance company to insure your vehicles and other assets. Insurance discounts known as the multi-line discount are frequently obtained by bundling policies.
Increase Your Excess
Lower premiums may result from choosing a larger excess but you must be ready to cover the increased out-of-pocket expenses in the event that you need to file a claim.
Maintain Good Security
Putting money into security features for your home like CCTV alarms and locks can lower your premium by a lot and lower the risk.
Professional Advice on Procuring the Right Coverage
Expert financial advisors can offer customized advice on how to get the best house insurance policy . They’ll evaluate your complete financial portfolio to find coverage that fits both your needs and your budget. The correct balance between being over- and under-insured is ensured by wise advice from these experts.
Assessing Your Home Insurance Needs
The last phase is introspection. It’s important to assess where you are now and where you want your coverage to be whether you live in a high-crime or flood-prone area, renovated your kitchen or made investments in risk mitigation. The Irish home insurance market for 2024 sheds light on all these factors which should help you make an informed decision when buying a policy.
Understanding the cost dynamics in your area is essential to managing the financial security of your property. Home insurance is a fundamental aspect of responsible homeownership. You can reasonably protect your home at a reasonable cost by taking charge of the variables that are within your control and getting knowledgeable advice for those that aren’t. Recall that insurance protects not only against loss but also the invaluable feeling of home in the unpredictably changing world.
Homeowners can potentially lower premiums by taking proactive steps like improving home security and reducing risks in addition to investigating coverage options and customizing policies to meet their needs. Eventually thorough study, honest dialogue with insurers and a proactive strategy for protecting one’s most precious asset the home itself are the keys to finding peace of mind.
