Showjumping is here, bemer riders tour: a grand finale & exciting new season of the championship series.

Hagen, Germany – April 21, 2022 – For jumping fans, Horses & Dreams Meets Canada CSI 4* & 2* from April 20–24, holds double the excitement. On Thursday and Friday with the glittering conclusion of the 2021/22 Bemer Riders Tour , when a champion will be crowned. However, due to the pandemic and the fact that several legs of the circuit were forced to be either cancelled or postponed, it will be followed by the start of a new, exciting season Saturday and Sunday, with many opportunities, extension of the series concept and new stages.

“Consistency” is the decisive word for success in the Bemer Riders Tour . As nice as a big win is, being really good just once is not enough in the international series. In order for consistency to develop, not only exceptional riders and horses are needed, but also a tried and tested set of rules. The tour has:

Eligible to Start: in 5 of the 7 stages of the series are:

1.) The Best 25 riders in the world ranking list (Longines Ranking) status: 2 months before the start of the event)

2.) The Top 3 riders of the current 2021/22 Bemer Riders Tour Ranking – for the first leg applies: The best 3 riders of the final classification of the 2019/20 Bemer Riders Tour

3.) Other riders who are entitled to start at the respective tournament.

Bemer Riders Tour Evaluation Test

The Bemer Riders Tour competition is advertised as an international world ranking competition with two rounds. Regarding the starting order in the 1st round the following applies: Reverse order of the qualification result. This means that the best in qualifying has secured pole position and is the last to start in the special stage.

The best 25 percent of the first round go into the second round, but at least all zero-fault rides. In the 2nd round everyone starts again from zero. Penalty points from the first round are therefore not taken.

The start sequence in the 2nd round is in reverse order of the penalty points from the 1st round (participants with the most penalty points start first). If there is a tie in penalty points, the participants start in the same order as in the 1st round.

There is an exception at the Hamburg Derby, because there are 2 qualifications (penalties/time) to ride, and only the 32 best make it into the Bemer Riders Tour evaluation test, the German Jumping Derby, which is advertised with a one-time jump-off.

Bemer Riders Tour Rating Points are awarded to the riders as follows for the placements in the respective evaluation tests:

If several riders occupy the same place, they will receive the same number of points. Example: two riders in 3rd place: 15 points each. The next rider would then be 5th and gets 11th points.

Overall winner of the BEMER Riders Tour: “Rider of the Year”

Prizes: The top 3 in the final classification will each receive a Land Rover car. For the overall ranking of the Bemer Riders Tour , the 4 best results are counted.

For a rider to be considered in the final classification, a start in the final stage, the 2022 “VR Classics” Neumünster , is mandatory.

Whoever has collected the most points in the Bemer Riders Tour is “Rider of the Year”.

In the case of a tie, most victories or 2nd places, etc. decide. If there is still a tie, the better result in the evaluation test of the final stage decides.

See you again in Ommen: The BEMER Riders Tour is entering its third round

(Ommen/NED) Top-class sport, show and hospitality, that is the recipe for success of the CSI Ommen. For the second time, the BEMER Riders Tour is a guest at the Schuttert family's equestrian center in Stegeren, Netherlands. The international horse show at three-star level will take place from July 5th to 9th and promises an exciting third stage with a top cast.

Organizer Hendrik Jan Schuttert cannot hide his anticipation: "After last year went so well, the riders are very enthusiastic about this season of the Riders Tour. We experienced two great stages in Hagen and Munich and are very happy The field is even stronger than last year with almost a quarter in the top 100 in the world and many good riders from different countries including Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Ireland or the UK It's a really strong, international one Field." Table leaders meet international top competition Athletes from 15 nations fill the entry list for the CSI3*, including five well-known faces from the current BEMER Riders Tour ranking list. "Rider of the Year 2021" Patrick Stühlmeyer, who already has 20 points to his credit after winning the first stage in Hagen, will try to further expand his record. His German compatriot Michael Kölz leads the ranking with the same number of points as Stühlmeyer. After his first stage win in Munich in May, Kölz got a taste for Rider's Tour successes. Japanese Olympian Eiken Sato scored 15 points in Hagen and is always a tough opponent, especially when saddled with top performer Chacanno JRA. With the Dutchman Vincent Dings (9 points) and the former European champion of young riders Thibeau Spits (2 points) from Belgium, they face strong competition. The latter just proved his top form with second place in the international young riders competition at the CHIO Aachen. The top starters also include Bertram Allen and Shane Breen from Ireland, Sophie Hinners, Rene Dittmer, David Will and Holger Wulschner from Germany, Briton William Funnell and Belgians Koen Vereecke, Niels Bruynseels and Jos Verlooy. From the Dutch frontrunners, Marc Houtzager and Willem Greve, the newly crowned winner of the prestigious Grand Prix over 1.60 m at the CHIO Rotterdam, are also at the start. Not to forget the Grand Prix winner of 2022, Remco Been (NED), who won his victory on the stallion Holland v.d. Bisshop can defend. Young Rider of the Year gets involved with the seniors Matthis Westendarp (GER) was able to jump into four stages of the Senior Riders Tour by winning the first BEMER Young Riders Tour last year. The 22-year-old announced early in the season that he wanted to start in Ommen and is saddled with his top partner Chillert Blue NRW. The BEMER Riders Tour is held in the Netherlands in two tests: Firstly, there is the qualification, an international competition with a jump-off and the day's highlight of the big tour on Friday. The best 50 couples of this qualification then start in reverse order in the BEMER Riders Tour special test on Sunday, the Grand Prix van het Vechtdal powered by Handelshuis Schuttert & Provincie Overijssel with two rounds. The makers of the Riders Tour GmbH, Paul Schockemöhle and Ullrich Kasselmann, want to award young riders new opportunities to test themselves in the “senior sport” and prove their potential. Promoting young talent has always been part of the Riders Tour concept, but is now taking on real shape with the Young Riders Tour.

The aim of the Young Rider series is to give good European riders in the U21 age group extended opportunities to compete on the established Riders Tour platform in the future.

The Mode of the Young Riders Tour

Rules & points system.

“Consistency” is the key word for success in the Young Riders Tour. As nice as a big victory is – being really good once is not enough in the international series. In order for consistency to unfold, it takes not only exceptional riders and horses, but also a tried and tested set of rules

Eligibility & Qualification:  Eligible are riders of the age group U21 = 18 – 21 years. There will be a points system, similar to that of the Riders Tour: Participants will first start in an entry or qualification test for the Grand Prix. The qualifying competition will then be the Young Rider Grand Prix

Young Riders Tour Ranking & Points System:

The ranking will be permanently updated during the current series to determine the ‘Young Rider of the Year’ at the end of the series final. If more than one rider places in the same position, they will receive the same number of points, e.g. two riders in 3rd place: 15 points each. The next placed rider would then be 5th and get 11 points.

Overall winner Young Riders Tour: Young Rider of the Year

The three first-placed riders of the final ranking will receive starting places at international events as a non-cash prize. The rider who has collected the most points in the Young Riders Tour is the “Young Rider of the Year”.

The Young Rider of the Year will receive a starting places at four shows in the following season. The runner-up will receive a starting place at two events in the following season. The third-placed rider can look forward to one starting place at a selected event in the following season.

In the event of a tie in points, the most wins or second places, etc. will decide. Should there still be a tie, the better result in the rating competition of the final station will decide.

(Gorla Minore) The BEMER Young Riders Tour is poised for a new season, once again supporting the best and most successful European young riders in the U21 age group as they make the leap into the senior camp. The show jumping series for young riders will first stop off in Gorla Minore, Italy, from 5 – 9 April 2023. Already on Thursday, the qualification will be decided, on Sunday in the Grand Prix of the Young Riders, tour points will be at stake. Valuable points for the overall ranking and the season’s goal ‘Young Rider of the Year’ can be collected at a further seven stages throughout Europe. The top performers will receive starting places in the BEMER Riders Tour for seniors, an event that has been a success for the past 21 years, according to their results this season.

Last year, the Italian U21 contingent already proved to be strong competition: no less than three riders were able to place among the top ten competitors in the overall ranking, the young Amazon Elena Datti even achieved second place. The first overall winner of the BEMER Young Riders Tour 2022 was the German show jumper Matthis Westendarp (Wallenhorst). He proved to be an outstanding young rider who was able to collect points in Zuidwolde as well as in Hagen a.T.W.. His reward: four starting places in the BEMER Riders Tour 2023/24, the first of which he will use at the opening leg in Hagen a.T.W. from 19 – 23 April. Due to his age, Matthis will not be able to defend his title, but he has a message for all participants this year: “The BEMER Young Riders Tour opens up a great opportunity to get into the big sport. I believe that the series will continue to grow in popularity in the near future and more and more Young Riders will set goals for themselves in the Tour. In the end it’s ‘Consistency is key’, you have to score points at as many shows as possible to be in front.”  

Title sponsor BEMER has supported the youth show jumping series since its inception. The aim is to develop horses and riders and thus, in the long term, also to increase the talent pool for the classic Riders Tour of the seniors.
