A41 traffic today as crash near Chesham and Berkhamsted leaves road closed

Hertfordshire Police is advising motorists to avoid the area following the crash on Friday afternoon

A major road is closed following a crash on the Buckinghamshire/Hertfordshire border today (Friday, February 4).

The westbound A41 is shut to traffic following a crash involving a number of vehicles on the Berkhamsted bypass near Chesham Turn Off.

The collision and closure were first reported at around 3.30pm - with traffic travelling from Hertfordshire and London towards Aylesbury affected.

Inrix, the traffic data company, said: "A41 Westbound closed, very slow traffic due to accident between A416 Chesham Road (Chesham Turn Off, Berkhamsted) and A4251 (Tring / Northchurch Turn Off, Tring)."

A Hertfordshire Police spokesperson said: "We are currently at the scene of a collision on the A41 Berkhamsted By Pass, involving multiple vehicles. Only slight injuries have been reported at this time. Road closures are in place and we advise motorists to avoid the area."

The School is easily accessible using both public or private transport links.

We offer 2 chaperoned routes, on our network of coach routes,  for pupils in Year 3 and up on our morning and evening services.

Pupils in Year 5 and Year 6 may join older siblings on the other routes within our network upon gaining permission from the Prep Headteacher.

Berkhamsted 

Berkhamsted town is a historic market town with a family environment. Its traditional High Street is bustling with both well-known brands and independent shops. Its great location provides easy links to London (direct trains 30 minutes from Euston) and Heathrow (40 minutes by car) making it easily accessible for both national and international families looking for a day or boarding school. The School is easily accessible using both public or private transport links.

By coach – Prep

We currently offer 2 chaperoned routes for pupils in Year 3 and up.  Our chaperone registers the children onto the bus in the morning and helps to ensure they are seated safely. Upon arrival at Kings Campus the chaperone will walk the children across to the Prep school.  After school, the children are collected from the Prep and escorted back to the coach.  During each journey parents will be provided with an app on which they can track their child’s progress to school.

Those in Year 5/6 with siblings in our Senior Schools may also take other routes subject to permission from the Prep Headteacher.

The train station is easy walking distance from all our campuses with the Pre-Prep a longer up-hill walk out of town. You may prefer to take a local taxi for the short journey.

There is limited visitor parking at Berkhamsted Day Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep, however, there is no on-site parking at our Senior Schools.  We recommend using local public car parks, the closest being behind Tesco and Waitrose – both on the High Street.  For more locations please see the map below.

The A41 is currently closed on the westbound carriageway at Berkhamsted following a multi-vehicle collision.

The accident happened between the A146 Chesham Road and the A4251 just before 3.30pm this afternoon (February 4).

According to police, only slight injuries have been reported so far.

A road closure is currently in place while the vehicles involved are recovered. Motorists are advised to avoid the area at this time.

An update from police

A spokesperson for Hertfordshire Police said: "Police were called at 3.09pm today (Friday 4 February) to reports of a collision on the A41 Berkhamsted By Pass northbound.

"Multiple vehicles are involved and slight injuries have been reported. Those injured are being taken to hospital.

"Officers remain at the scene and road closures are currently in place.

"Motorists are kindly advised to avoid the area."

It is unclear yet as to how many vehicles were involved and how many people were injured.

Heavy congestion in the area

There is congestion all the wya to the Bourne End turn off and through the centre of Berkhamsted as motorists seek alternative routes.

The road is closed and traffic is heavy with 19 minute delays being reported.

FAA lifts temporary ground stop of Alaska Airlines flights after technical issue is resolved

The Federal Aviation Administration lifted a ground stop for all Alaska Airlines flights Wednesday after grounding the planes earlier as a result of a computer problem at the carrier.

The Seattle-based airline said in a statement that an issue arose “while performing an upgrade to the system that calculates our weight and balance.”

The FAA initially approved a ground stop for all Alaska and Horizon flights starting at approximately 10:50 a.m. ET.

It was lifted just before 11:45 a.m. ET.

It wasn't immediately clear how many flights were affected. An Alaska spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

During the said period commuters are advised to avoid following roads and use alternative routes."

Multiple People Are Stabbed on a Party Boat in Brooklyn

Three people were hospitalized and more than 1,000 passengers were evacuated, the authorities said.

Two men were stabbed and another was hit in the head with a bottle on a crowded party boat in Brooklyn on Saturday evening, the authorities said.

The men were all hospitalized with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, police and fire officials said. The attacks forced the evacuation of more than 1,000 passengers from the boat, the police said, a white cruise ship called the Cornucopia Majesty , which was docked at Pier 4 at the Brooklyn Army Terminal.

A 32-year-old man was stabbed in the torso, a 40-year-old man was stabbed several times in the chest and abdomen and a 28-year-old man was hit in the head with a bottle, the police said. All three men were taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn.

The stabbings happened just after 5 p.m., the police said. No arrests had been made as of Saturday evening, and it was unclear how many attackers had been involved.

The police said they believed that a dispute had escalated into a physical altercation, but that the events leading up to the stabbings were still under investigation.
