Blackpink’s Born Pink Tour Opens in Seoul With Surprise Performances, Unreleased Track

Global superstars Blackpink kicked off the Born Pink World Tour Saturday in the group’s home ground of Seoul, South Korea. The girls returned to the KSPO Dome, the same venue where they opened their first-ever tour “In Your Area.”

That was four years ago, when the venue was still called the Olympic Gymnastics Arena, and the tour concluded in late February 2020, right before Covid-19 lockdowns started happening around the world. Since then, the girls have shot up even higher into super-stardom: With The Album , the group’s Netflix documentary Blackpink: Light Up the Sky , and their livestream concert “The Show” all in 2020.

The group kicked off the show with “How You Like That” and “Pretty Savage,” dressed in custom ivory outfits with Asian-inspired silhouettes and prints. “It feels weird to perform in front of our Blinks after so long. I feel nervous and emotional and excited,” Rosé shared.

The KSPO Dome was flooded early in the day with fans eager to check out the merch tents and brand activations taking place. Vendors sold everything from Korean street food to binoculars so fans could get a better glimpse.

“It’s been so long since we performed in front of so many of our Blinks. I’m so happy to see not only our Korean Blinks but also Blinks from overseas,” Lisa said, tearing up. “It’s so meaningful to start our tour in Seoul. We made some mistakes due to nerves since it’s been four years, but I hope you still had fun,” added Jisoo.

As expected, Blackpink put on a stellar show with some surprises up their sleeves, and the girls’ efforts showed in their solo performance stages. Jisoo performed a cover of “Liar” by Camila Cabello, complete with a dance break routine she absolutely nailed.

Rather than performing hit track “Solo,” Jennie opted to perform an unreleased song reminiscent of her recent interpretative dance video for Tamburins . “I wanted to show you all something new, you might have been a bit surprised,” she said with a smile.

Rosé performed her newly released solo track “Hard to Love” before switching up the beat for “On the Ground,” and Lisa turned up the heat with a pole dance routine for her solo performance. “I watched her practice pole dancing through the pain. It’s much harder than it looks,” Jennie said of Lisa.

At the end of the show, there was a prepared event where the entire venue was echoing with fans singing a verse of “Forever Young.” Compared to the group’s first tour, Saturday’s show felt significantly more full than the last thanks to their expanded discography.

BLACKPINK live in Seoul: K-pop superstars bring power and playfulness as their massive ‘Born Pink’ world tour lifts off

KSPO Dome, October 16: The four-piece warm up and kick off the ‘Born Pink’ tour, billed as the largest of its kind for a girl group in K-pop history

As BLACKPINK ’s past music videos roll on the big screens at Seoul’s KSPO Dome, the mood inside the venue perfectly fits a late Sunday afternoon – quiet, chilled, laidback. When the volume suddenly gets turned up midway through ‘Shut Down’, though, the atmosphere quickly becomes electric. The last few people to enter the arena scurry to their seats, the heart-shaped lightsticks nearly everyone is carrying glow pink, and a crackle of pyrotechnics signals BLACKPINK’s arrival on stage.

Tonight (October 16) is the second of two Seoul concerts kicking off the superstar group’s ‘Born Pink’ world tour – billed as the largest of its kind for any girl group in K-pop history. From the off, it’s clear how much has been poured into the concert so it matches that grand tag. No expense has been spared on the VCRs, from the opening “enchanted garden” to later sci-fi-themed clips that could be scenes in the quartet’s own space-age movie. The constant explosion of fireworks and confetti cannons add peaks of drama and excitement to an already thrilling night, while the live instrumentation makes sure the songs hit just as hard as the visuals.

From the second they step on stage, it’s obvious BLACKPINK didn’t come to play either. They kick things off by recapping some of their older tracks, opening with an almighty version of ‘How You Like That’ and an intoxicating ‘Pretty Savage’. “ You better run, run, run ,” Jisoo sings at one point during the latter, a confident smirk etched on her face that suggests the group are here to take no prisoners.

For the most part, that’s true. A fierce rendition of ‘Kill This Love’ is heralded by flashing blue lights flickering on the stage and bleeping sounds you’d associate with spaceships, adding a sense of mystery and intrigue before the dramatic horns of its intro cut through like a shock to the system. ‘Don’t Know What To Do’ highlights the softer side of the group’s artistry but is no less arresting. ‘Tally’, the first new song to be aired tonight, shines bright as a genuinely empowering anthem, the women of BLACKPINK revelling in lines like: “ I say ‘fuck it’ when I feel it / Cos no one’s keeping tally, I do what I want with who I like .” ‘Pink Venom’, too, feels absolutely massive, its juddering experimentalism made larger than life by the band who join the four members on stage tonight.

But there are also moments throughout where the impact isn’t quite as powerful as it could be – some choreography, like the new dance break in ‘How You Like That’ or parts of ‘Crazy Over You’, feel a little rusty. Given that it’s been two and a half years since BLACKPINK stood on stage together for a full concert with an audience (and it’s been 20 months since their excellent virtual concert, THE SHOW ), it’s understandable that they might still be loosening up and working their way back to their very best. Later, in the show’s ending moments, the members acknowledge nervous mistakes but emphasise the fun they’re having instead of fixating on the imperfections.

In the middle of the setlist, each member gets a chance under the spotlight with a series of solo performances. Jisoo, the only member not to have worked on her own solo music yet, goes first with a cover of Camila Cabello ’s ‘Liar’, including an alluring dance break at the end of the song. Jennie follows, not with a rendition of 2018’s ‘Solo’ as might have been expected, but with a brand-new, unreleased song . Currently untitled, the dance-pop cut offers an exciting preview of what could come next in her solo arc. Jennie’s performance feels majestic and romantic, the singer and rapper elegantly lifted above the head of a male dancer as she sings: “ I loved you and me, dancing in the moonlight / Nobody can see, it’s just you and me tonight. ”

Moments later, Rosé takes her place on the stage for a pair of songs. First, she flawlessly recreates ‘Hard To Love’ – her individual track from ‘BORN PINK’ – singing its opening lines a cappella, before reminding the crowd of the brilliance of her 2021 single ‘On The Ground’. Lisa finishes off the solo performances with her own double-hitter – an abridged version of ‘Lalisa’ that segues into a smooth pole dancing section (which later earns her the nickname “Polisa” from her bandmates) before she shakes things up with a supremely confident version of ‘Money’.

Having the chance to step out on their own – or take a longer breather backstage – seems to have a reinvigorating effect on the rest of BLACKPINK’s performance. When they return to the stage as a four-piece, they feel more relaxed and fully in the swing of things. During ‘Ddu-du Ddu-du’, Jennie and Jisoo are in playful moods, goofing around with each other before switching back into power mode for the Stomp -like dance break. ‘Boombayah’ kicks off the final segment of the show and finds Jisoo light-heartedly showing off her rapping skills as she joins Lisa on the mic to “ go brrr, Rambo ”.

A lot of the visuals and production tonight position BLACKPINK in galaxies far, far away – whether that’s Rosé sitting on top of a planet in the final VCR or the pink Saturn illustration emblazoned on the back screen during ‘Playing With Fire’. The group have many months and shows all over the world to get their ‘Born Pink’ tour to the astronomical heights promised. It’s when they’re loose and having fun – which becomes clear when they jump around in a huddle with their dancers during set closer ‘As If It’s Your Last’ – that BLACKPINK’s magic really comes alive and they get closest to that out-of-this-world feeling.

BLACKPINK just held a two-night encore show at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul, South Korea, for the finale of its "Born Pink" world tour, which garnered thousands of fans — known as BLINKS — to the venue on both days over the weekend.

The internationally acclaimed K-Pop group first kicked off its second world tour in October 2022 at the KSPO Dome in Seoul before it jetted off to several countries across North America, Europe, Oceania and Asia. Interestingly, they gathered about 1.95 million spectators during the run.

Before the quartet went on a break following the success of the tour — now the biggest world tour by a female K-Pop act in history — it appeared that fans made sure to attend the event as well as several K-Pop idols, K-Pop groups, actors, actresses and Korean entertainment industry officials. The dome sold out instantly when tickets went on sale last month; hence, BLACKPINK was able to sell out 66 out of its 66 shows.

BLACKPINK's World Tour Finale in Seoul: Ticket Sales Begin on September 1

Girl group BLACKPINK has announced ticket sales for their grand finale concert. According to their agency, YG Entertainment, general ticket sales for BLACKPINK's World Tour encore performance in Seoul will begin at 7 PM on September 1 (KST), available on Interpark Tickets.

BLACKPINK is set to hold their 'BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK] FINALE IN SEOUL' at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on September 16th and 17th. This marks their reunion with domestic fans almost a year after their last performance in October 2022.

Drawing significant attention, this event not only marks the first time a K-pop female artist has performed at the Gocheok Dome but also serves as the grand conclusion to their world tour, which attracted approximately 1.75 million attendees, making it the largest scale for a K-pop girl group.

Unlike the previous pre-sales which were exclusive to BLINK MEMBERSHIP subscribers, the general ticket sales are open to everyone. This is expected to intensify the competition among global music fans vying for tickets.

YG Entertainment commented, "Both BLACKPINK and top-tier staff from Korea and abroad are pouring their utmost efforts to present the best stage fitting for the grand finale. We hope fans will join us on-site to experience the profound emotions and resonance of that moment."

Through a video message, BLACKPINK expressed, "It feels surreal to conclude the world tour we started last October in Seoul. As it's the finale, we're all preparing diligently. We ask for your continued support and enthusiasm until the end."

The 'BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK] FINALE IN SEOUL' will be conducted offline on the first day (September 16th) and both online and offline on the second day (September 17th). With the inclusion of an online live broadcast for the first time in this world tour, fans who can't attend in person can still enjoy the concert in real-time, sharing the same excitement.

BLACKPINK To Conclude ‘Born Pink’ World Tour With Two Gigs in Seoul 

K-pop stars BLACKPINK revealed the closing shows of their “Born Pink” world tour.

Kicking off in October 2022 in Seoul, South Korea, after the release of their second studio album Born Pink , the massive tour makes its finale with two acts at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul. again, on September 16 and 17. The latter will also be streamed online via Weverse .

Fans hoping to attend BLACKPINK shows in Seoul can register for presale tickets through the BLINK membership. Tickets will be available starting August 29 for members via Interpark or Weverse, whereas public onsale begins on September 1. Fans will be able to obtain online tickets for the September 17 show through the Weverse shop.

The famous girl band has been touring across Europe, North America, Asia and Ocenia with outstanding shows and sold-out runs for months. Seoul gigs in September will mark the end of a-66-show run. The tour’s last stop on the North American leg , on the other hand, will wrap-up on August 26 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

Consisting of members Jisoo (vocalist), Jennie (rapper, vocalist), Rosé (vocalist, dancer), and Lisa (dancer, rapper, vocalist), BLACKPINK rose to fame years before the release of The Album (2020), their debut full-length studio record. Their debut single album, Square Up , dropped in August 2016, with over 530,000 copies sold in Korea alone. They ranked No.  2 with their debut album on the Billboard 200 album chart.

The band’s latest studio album, Born Pink , of the same title with their ongoing world tour, went beyond the success of their first record, peaking as a chart-topper on the Korean, Canadian, UK, and Billboard 200 album charts. The album has also sold more than 2 million copies in South Korea alone.

The K-pop superstars’ distinctive achievements include the New Artist of the Year Award at the Golden Disc Awards, the MAMA Award for Best Female Group in 2020 and 2022, the first MTV Video Music Award won by a Korean girl group, the first Brit Award nomination for a Korean girl group, and recognition as Time’s 2022 Entertainer of the Year.

Who is Blackpink?

Blackpink is a four member K-pop girl group under YG Entertainment. Comprised of members Jennie, Jisoo, Lisa and Rosé, the group debuted in 2016 with the song “ Boombayah ." The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard world digital song sales chart. 

Throughout the years, Blackpink has released various albums and singles, including " Ddu-du Ddu-du " and " Kill This Love ," which helped push the girl group into international stardom.

At the time of release, " Ddu-du Ddu-du " became the most-viewed music video in its first 24 hours by a K-pop group. The music video was also the  first-ever song by a K-pop group to surpass 1 billion views on YouTube. After its release, " Kill This Love " was the the most-viewed music video in its first 24 hours, gaining 56.7 million views. 

In 2020, the group was the subject of Netflix's first K-pop documentary, " BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky ." 

Since debut, Blackpink has had many collaborations, including " Kiss and Make Up " with Dua Lipa, " Sour Candy " with Lady Gaga, " Bet You Wanna " with Cardi B and " Ice Cream " with Selena Gomez. 

Blackpink has toured across the globe. The group made stops in the U.S. during the "In Your Area" world tour in 2019 and the " Born Pink " world tour in 2022.

On April 16, it was announced Blackpink would return to the states for four stadiums shows.  During the " Born Pink Encore ," the group will perform in: 

• East Rutherford, New Jersey – MetLife Stadium (Saturday, Aug. 12) 
• Las Vegas – Allegiant Stadium (Friday, Aug. 18) 
• San Fransisco – Oracle Park (Tuesday, Aug. 22)

How many members are in Blackpink?

There are four members in Blackpink: 

• Jennie (Full name: Jennie Kim) Born Jan. 16, 1996 in Seoul, South Korea. 
• Jisoo (Full name: Kim Ji-soo) Born Jan. 3, 1995 in Gunpo, South Korea. 
• Lisa (Full name: Lalisa Manobal [also spelled Manoban]) Born March 27, 1997 in Buriram, Thailand. 
• Rosé (Full name: Roseanne Park, Korean name: Park Chae-young) Born Feb. 11, 1997 in Auckland, New Zealand. 

Originally, Blackpink was supposed to debut with nine members but this was later changed. 

Why are they called Blackpink? 

During an interview with Jimmy Kimmel in 2020, the group explained the reasoning behind its name.

It "kind of felt like those two colors represented us the most ‘cause we're very girly but at the same time we're very savage too," said Rosé in the interview. 

Initially, the group had the tentative name "Pink Punk," which was created by YG Entertainment founder Yang Hyun-suk. This was later changed to Blackpink, according to a 2017 radio interview .  

What are Blackpink fans called? 

The fandom name for Blackpink is called "Blink."

The name derives from Blackpink. The "BL" comes from black and "INK" from pink, meaning that the fans start and end with Blackpink. 

Blackpink makes history as Coachella headliners

Blackpink made history by becoming the first Korean act to headline Coachella after it was announced the group would perform  at the festival in 2023.

Alongside headliners Bad Bunny and Frank Ocean, Blackpink is one of three main headliners for the famous two-weekend festival, which took place April 14 through 16 and April 21 through 23 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California. 

This is the second time Blackpink performed at Coachella. In 2019, the group made history by becoming the first female K-pop idol group to perform at the festival .

Blackpink milestones

Blackpink has broke various records and has received many awards and accolades since its debut.

In 2016, Blackpink won the Rookie Singer Award at the Asia Artist Awards, Best of Next Female Artist at the MAMA Awards and Best New Artist at the Melon Music Awards. Blackpink won the award for Best Female Group at the MAMA Awards in 2020 and 2022, respectively. Additionally, the group won Artist of the Year at the 2023 Hanteo Music Awards. 

The group has released two studio albums, one compilation album, three EPs, four live albums and four single albums. The group's second studio album " Born Pink " debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart , marking the first No.1 for an all-female group since 2008 . Blackpink's first studio album " The Album " peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. 

Nine of Blackpink's songs have reached the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The group's collaboration with Selena Gomez "Ice Cream" peaked the highest at No. 13 . 

Blackpink holds the title of many "firsts" within the music industry. The group was the first girl group to top the Billboard Artist 100 chart. Blackpink is the first female Korean act to receive a certification from the Recording Industry Association of America with the 2018 single "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du," which was certified gold. 

The group is also the first Korean girl group to win a MTV Video Music Award, taking home the Song of Summer award for " How You Like That " in 2020. 

Additionally, in 2019 , Blackpink was the first female Korean group to be featured on Forbes' 30 Under 30 Asia. The group was also named Time's  Entertainer of the Year in 2022 .
