Kathy is the absolute best!! She helped book my honeymoon and she led us in all the right directions. From helping us book the best cruise experience EVER to being super easy to contact. Kathy really was not kidding when she said call her at anytime of day and she will answer lol. Best prices, best services and she is very passionate about what she does. Hands down best travel agent you will ever hire. Beware!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Planned a cruise for me and my wife's 25th wedding anniversary with Somerset Tours and Travel on February 19th. Cruise was for September 10th, 2019. I gave the owner (Kathleen) a personal check for $1,927.00 on that day. Received a confirmation receipt that day from Kathleen showing a balance of $100.88. I wanted to pay the whole thing off at that time, but Kathleen told me to leave a hundred dollar balance in case the price went down before the sail date. I thought that was awesome that we could still see some savings and take advantage of that savings by not paying the whole thing off early. Fast forward to June 7th, 2019. On that day, I received a booking confirmation email from Royal Caribbean. The trip had actually decreased from $2,027.88 to $1,689.88. WOW. NOW BEING THAT I ALREADY GAVE HER A CHECK FOR $1,927.00. I'm saving $237.12. AWESOME!!!!!!! Not so fast. According to Royal Caribbean's booking confirmation email, I had a Balance Due of $1,189.88 due by June 12, 2019. Couldn't help but notice that the booking only had $500.00 applied to it. Called Kathleen and she said that she paid for my cruise and that Royal Caribbean's accounting department was wrong and that she would get to the bottom of it. She also agreed that I was due a refund of $237.12. She offered to pay me in the form of Visa gift card or a check. I opted for the check. August 31, 2019 went with my wife to get our check. Went to the office and met with Kathleen. She gave me all sorts of trinkets for the cruise. I asked about the check, she said, "What check"? She pulled out the paperwork and her notes. She even had $237.00 difference written on her notes. She told me that she deposited my check and used her business credit card to pay for the deposit because she didn't want to wait until the check cleared. Really???? It would only have been 2 days. Then she said that when the check cleared, she forgot to take out the $500.00 she paid using her credit card. Now she won't give me the amount I over paid because she says she is losing money on the deal. I don't know what she did with my original payment but according Royal Caribbean, it was not applied to my booking on June 12th. This all seems very shady to me. Now I know it's only $237.12. But who in their right mind would just give that kind of money away. So now I'll spend the $30 filing fee to bring her to small claims court. At this point it's just the principle. I've used the same person for years to book my travel without a problem. Unfortunately this time, family and friends booked through Somerset Tours and Travel with us jumping into the group. I can not and will not ever recommend anyone dealing with this business. Got copies of all the receipts from her and Royal Caribbean along with a copy of the personal check endorsed by her. Will post an update once the small claims action is filed and heard in court.

In my defense, I left the account open and did not pay in full for the reason Mr Aguiar is upset about. I saved him $237.12 by waiting.I went over and beyond for him in saving him money. He would never had known about the savings had I not told him. Had he paid in full when he wanted to he would not have been eligible for the price drop. His check, which I never accept (I did in this case because of mutual friends)  was deposited into my NO INTEREST clients account. I waited until final payment to see if the cost of the cruise went down, it did. I was very happy for him. I regretfully made an accounting error with his rebate. When it was brought to my attention I sent him the funds in full.  I did this all in his favor as I do for all my clients. This is something I don't have to do. I always pay the cruise line directly at time of purchase. This was all done with good intentions. I did not have to keep an eye on a price drop. My intentions was honorable.Read this complaint over, you will see nothing was done with intention to fraud but to help my client save money.  Respectfully, Kathleen Scallon owner Somerset Tours & Travel

Very very very very. Poor service the owner is very unprofessional 13 people booked in March to go to Punta Cana resort for January 9 of 2016 and never in my life I ever had to go thru what. This women made us go thru. Today is December 28 of2015 and we still don't have our tickets to leave in one week from today and not just that we all had paid in full and this women toke our money and didn't paid the airlines until us 13 ppl had to go to a police station ...I will never ever go. To this travel again in my life and I don't recommend NONE to go. It was a hell of booking with. This women always lying to all of us very sad of businesses & very LOW CLASS OF A WOMEN swearing constantly in front of her client on text and on phone face to face and many more. I will leave it to the other 13 people to. Leave there experience with this place. DONT EVER GO !!!! Let's make something clear here please!!! This woman says that because of another person that worked for her business took her money and the files but OK on November this woman paid everything that The 13 people had given her which was only 2300 and change something like that and this lady. Had to go to the police station to pay so she could have copy's and proves that she paid !!! So. 3 weeks later Apple airline still was t paid the owner kept saying it was because the other lady didn't paid but it wasn't true because she had paid comes to find out the owner kept saying it was only $383 dollars. That she owned to Apple airline and it was a BIG lie she really owned $3830 she always has to blame someone in the end it was the owner her self that. Made this. A hell of a booking !!!! To who ever reads this in the future I have PROVES of everything I'm saying is true. Text massages. And all. Please massage me if you need proves in the future ....

I am very sorry Miss Adelia feels this way. I do not speak in such a manner. This trip was professionally booked until a friend of the groups went upon herself to collect final payment w/o my consent. (She stole the file from my desk) This was done in Sept. Final payment was in November, that's when I found out final payment was collected from some of the clients and never given to me to apply to booking. I took money from my own funds to ensure this party was not cancelled. I had to make a criminal complaint against the person who collected the funds. I have receipts, I have proof. We are currently in litigation as I have to protect the integrity of my office. . We had not had any problem at all until this file was stolen and money collected behind my back. Further, this client Adelia, cancelled her trip due to her boyfriend being unable to get a legal passport. I called Apple Vacations in front of client and cancelled booking. Apple Vacation had an extra $200. fee which I fought to get back to client. Apple Vacation also paid said client in 3 installments. Because this client does not have a debit or credit card the refund went to my business account. Let me remind everyone. this was all during December. I gave this client $1303. 12/5, (that's when Apple Vacation deposited funds to me) They immediately came to the office and cashed it . The second refund was for $587. They were in such a hurry for this refund I had no chance to deposit into my clients only account therefore I wrote the check from my expense account. just to stop them from being so upset. The 3rd refund of $277.00 came in the day I closed at 3:00 as I had a Dentist appointment.(The day before Christmas eve) Miss Adelia insisted I leave my appointment , she was threatening to "ruin" me, she was going to the police, etc... so I informed her, at this point her check would be bank certified and mailed certified via U.S.P.S.. I am sorry they are all upset. However, had their friend not taken their file , their final payment would have been made in September thus all the parties would have received all their documents in September. Documents are not sent until ALL final payments are made within a group. Also, Adelia and her boyfriend, if they were able to get a passport they wouldn't have had a refund problem. They would be packing for the wedding I planned for them on the beach in Punta Cana. (btw, I did not charge a service fee for them) I also want to mention, all documents were in my office for pick up at least a week before someone came by to retrieve them. I called, texted, and messaged everyone individually that the paper documents from Apple Vacations was delivered to me and ready for pick up. I am sorry it came to this. I love all my clients and treat them all with the utmost respect. I go up and beyond to make sure their vacation is PERFECT! Even as far as driving them to the airport ! Thank you for your feedback, it's a pleasure to have worked with you even though we had a few rough spots. I wish you and your family all the best.

Deposit at first. She had lied to me. And said there was no money so my husband had to go on the phone and she end up paying our first refund second refund she paid with no problems 4 days later now. Our 3rd refund she has been holding for the last two week what kind of business is this ?? I had text her asking for the rest of my money so my husband & I could stop this Night mare of so called business women her text to me was. She had to pay her. Bills first. Before she paid me. !!!! And the best. Part. Was. BE NICE or I would make you wait of course I had to put her on her place and remind her I was still a customer not her kid or husband who also had disrespected me on the phone and in her business while there was a class going on well her answer was BITE ME!!!! This women shouldn't be open for businesses on my opinion I had called her yesterday to found out we're was my last refund she had called me. A stupid fucking greenhorn....REALLY so my husband & I had enough with this women Kathy and we went and filed a police report on her. For holding our money & our friends tickets for this long !!! PLEASE THINK 100TIMES BEFORE WALKING IN TO THIS SO CALLED BUSINESS WOMEN!! CORRETION !!! To the Returned massage It's mrs. Rocha to you! First of all the women that you say toke money or toke your" files "from you is NOT PART of the GROUP or friends of my Husband & I last time I recall she worked for your business contract or not contracted hired or not hired by you it is not our problem!!! Whatever happen with your & her ... If we want to be technical we only dealt with you only u the so-called owner of the business from day one I went and put down CASH MONEY thru the whole Time in your hands & paid in full my tickets & my brother and his girlfriend tickets to YOU ONLY there was no other party involve it was YOU & I from day ONE You say you fixed fee of $200 from Apple let's be HoMESt here on my recall I remember very well the mistake was made by you Apple was going to charge my husband and I both $450 each. For cancellation in the correct amount is $245 each there was a mistake made by you on changed dates booked a different day that is why Apple was charging us $200 more so you fixed the fee that you did wrong!!!!!! DID YOU FORGET? Or is it the bottle of caramel ballys getting to you Which you say no such thing ever occur that you never talked or disrespect me well I'm sorry I recall you drinking from the bottle behind your desk while my husband and I and my boss and my children were present DID YOU FORGET ? Maybe I should just POST all my massages with you. Where your swearing and disrespecting me and playing around with my money and yes you have paid us $1300 yes you have PS the $587 and if my husband and I rush to get it it's because we want to and the nightmare which it's the new year we are in 2016 and we still haven't received a $277 which you're making us wait what woman in the mine that has a business make their customers wait for their money they're working hard money yeah my husband couldn't make it to this vacation because he couldn't get his passport yes but it's still our money will you tell us that you can't pay us because you need to pay your business first that is funny !! It's 2016 and I still haven't received my $277 that you so-called said that you send it certified mail lies after lies SMH!

It's a pleasure for me to write this review to a business who took the best care of my travel needs not once but, multiple times. I'm well aware that I'm not always the easiest to work with... Example: Me: "Kate! I need a non-stop to LA tomorrow to wrap up some unforeseen business before I can take the cruise you booked for me". Make it happen! Kate: "Absolutely Adam! Don't worry about a thing, I'll handle everything & you have my word I won't sleep until your entire itinerary is revised & to your satisfaction." I was amazed at how much effort the agency put into taking my needs into consideration & never making me feel pressured, or that I was a pain in the ass for constantly trying to cut costs, and make last minute changes! My travels were always perfect, my accommodations beautiful, & best part of all... The feeling of truly being taken car of! Even my follow up calls to make sure I arrived home safely & enjoyed my trip. Superb!

I had an opportunity to open my own Agency. I proved, with hard work and no matter what age your dreams can come true. Then my building burned down on Palm Sunday 2017, it was tough but, out of the ashes we rose, I reopened, got keys to my new office on Christmas Eve, thus the adventure continues.

I know you are probably thinking “A travel agency?” Yes, a travel agency! Sure, they are as ubiquitous as coffee chains, gas stations, cell phone stores and pajama pants – but, lend me your ear…er…eyes.

Commonplace is a good thing. We live in a capitalist society and that means, for any business to survive when the services they offer can be found readily, they must competitively price these services and products. Recently, a travel agency made headlines for taking a number of people’s down payments for trips, and high-tailing it, so it’s good to let people know which businesses take theses things seriously. And it’s even better to recognize businesses and business owners who consistently offer affordable prices, professional, warm service, and have integrity and pride in doing what it is they do.

One of these businesses is Somerset Tours & Travels, owned and operated by Kathleen Scallon. Kathleen retired from the U.S.P.S. as a letter carrier in 2007 and was in a position where she had to decide on a new career path. She thought to herself “If I had hit the lottery and didn’t need to work for money, what would I do?” The answer was an instantaneous one: Kathleen’s fondest memories in life revolve around travel. In fact, before becoming a letter carrier straight out of high school, she attended and graduated from Johnson & Wales with a Travel & Tourism Marketing Degree. Life just seemed to take her into another direction.

Now, she could reconnect with that passion that she had put on the back-burner for decades. She started to rekindle this passion by taking a gig at a travel agency in Rhode Island for a few years. She attended every class she could from here to Florida, with the goal to stay current in the industry, learn about the newest technology and hottest destinations. In spite of amassing a number of certificates along the way, her eagerness to learn has never waned and she continues attending these seminars and courses.

She is assisted by a number of independent travel advisors. Susan LePage and Wendy Roberge who are veterans with more than 40 years combined in the industry. Wendy is a special needs teacher in New Bedford, is studying and actively training to be a travel adviser. Susan Lepage is a 30 year experienced travel agent and very knowledgeable in many areas. Her daughter, Kayla Freeborn who has first-hand experience having traveled all over the world, first with Royal Caribbean Cruise ships as a principle Figure Skater, now as a Flight Attendant for American Airlines. There is even a Disney specialist, Deanna Whitten, a golf specialist Connie Palagi, who has golfed in the most beautiful golf courses in the US and Europe. They have all the angles covered!

She recently added to her team world renowned traveler, Bryce “Catch me if you can!” Gruwell, who spent 6 years touring with “Holiday On Ice” throughout Europe AND Asia, Bryce is also an American Airline’s flight attendant. This guy knows everything there is to know about every major city in Europe, the best places to eat, where NOT to go eat, where you simply have to visit, all the “must dos” and “must don’ts.”

Kathleen and the staff at Somerset Tours & Travel simply want to reach those people who have the same love for traveling, especially those who incorrectly think that it can’t be done affordably.
