Armenia, a Captivating Getaway

Just a brief three-hour flight from the UAE lies Armenia, an enchanting destination known for its snow-capped mountains and ancient archaeological wonders dating back to the first century AD. For UAE residents, the journey is easily accessible, with various airlines offering round-trip tickets starting at Dh500. However, the key question arises when it comes to the visa – an essential aspect for seamless travel.

Understanding Armenia Visa for UAE Residents. Over 40 nationalities enjoy visa-free travel to Armenia. Yet, for certain nationalities, particularly Indian, Filipino, or Egyptian residents in the UAE holding a valid Emirates ID, the option of a 21-day visa on arrival is available. Others may navigate the visa process through a travel agent or Armenia's online eVisa platform.

Visa on Arrival Eligibility. Armenia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs outlines specific eligibility criteria for visa on arrival. Notably, Indian, Filipino, or Egyptian nationals in the UAE, possessing a valid Emirates ID, can acquire a visa at Armenia's border. This is applicable when presenting either a valid visa (sticker) or a valid resident card issued by Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

Demand for Autumn and Winter Tours. Ryan Degombes, a travel consultant at Rio Travels, notes a surge in requests for Armenia tour packages during the autumn and winter seasons. With direct flights from major UAE cities provided by Emirates, Etihad, FlyDubai, Wizz Air, and Air Arabia, Armenia becomes an attractive destination for UAE residents seeking a unique travel experience.

Navigating Visa Options. Determining the visa that suits your travel needs involves considering factors such as nationality and residence permits. Armenia provides multiple avenues, including visa-free entry, visa on arrival, eVisa applications, or consulate-based processes. Unlocking the Convenience: Opting for Armenia Visa for UAE Residents

Learn more information about the Armenia Visa for UAE Residents:

Choosing Between Arrival Visa and eVisa

For UAE residents of certain nationalities, the decision between obtaining a visa on arrival at the airport or applying for an eVisa online holds significance. Ryan Degombes, a travel consultant at Rio Travels, emphasizes that considering the hassle-free nature of the process, an eVisa might be more beneficial.

Advantages of eVisa

While a visa on arrival entails potential delays due to queues and documentation, an eVisa proves advantageous. Degombes suggests that applying for an eVisa not only expedites the process but also streamlines entry at passport control. Presenting a printed eVisa and a valid passport is all that was required for smooth entry.

Cost and Duration Breakdown

Visa on arrival incurs an approximate fee of $8 (Dh29), allowing a stay of up to 21 days. Conversely, Armenia eVisa options include a short-term option, costing $7 (Dh25), valid for up to 21 days, and a long-term variant at $34 (Dh124), offering a stay of up to 120 days. It is crucial to note that the eVisa fee is non-refundable.

Documents Required for Visa on Arrival

If opting for a visa on arrival, certain additional documents are recommended beyond a valid passport and Emirates ID. Armenia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs suggests carrying a return ticket, hotel reservation details, travel insurance, and a bank statement, all valid for at least three months. This is very relevant for the Armenia Visa for UAE Residents!

Applying for Armenia eVisa

For an eVisa, the process is user-friendly:

Firstly, visit the official online visa platform: evisa.mfa.am

Later, select 'ordinary passport' and your nationality from the dropdown menu.

Also, enter your email address and confirm through the activation link received.

Therefore, complete the visa application form, including passport details, personal information, and purpose of the trip.

So, upload a recent passport-sized photo and a copy of your passport.

Additional supporting documents, such as air tickets, hotel reservation, resident permit, bank statements, or travel insurance, are recommended.

Also, select the purpose and duration of your trip.

Additionally, confirm application details, pay fees online through the portal using credit or debit cards.

Confirmation and Retrieval of eVisa

So, upon completion, a confirmation email with a transaction number is received for tracking purposes. After approval, the eVisa is sent via email. Therefore, travelers must print the digital visa, as it is required during passport control. Choosing the Armenia Visa for UAE Residents ensures a seamless travel experience, epitomizing convenience and efficiency.

Why Opting for an eVisa is Advantages for UAE Residents

Choosing between a visa on arrival and an eVisa is a critical decision for UAE residents. Ryan Degombes, a travel consultant at Rio Travels in Dubai, sheds light on the two options available. However, the conventional visa on arrival at the airport may present drawbacks, including lengthy queues, form completion, and document submission. So, this process, as Degombes highlights, can be time-consuming.

The eVisa Advantage: Time Efficiency

On the contrary, opting for an eVisa emerges as a preferable choice. In other words, it saves valuable time during passport control. As a result, the streamlined process ensures that the eVisa is issued promptly, usually within a few days. As Ryan Degombes succinctly puts it, "It is recommended to apply for an eVisa because it saves you time at passport control, and the visa is issued in a few days." Certainly, this advice emphasizes the efficiency and convenience offered by the eVisa route.

Visa on Arrival for UAE Residents:

For UAE residents holding Indian passports, Armenia offers multiple entry options. While over 40 nationalities can travel to Armenia visa-free, residents of certain countries, including India, the Philippines, and Egypt, with a valid Emirates ID, can obtain a 21-day visa on arrival. This streamlined process facilitates a hassle-free entry, allowing travelers to focus on enjoying their visit.

Flight Options and Accessibility:

Several airlines, including Emirates, Etihad, FlyDubai, Wizz Air, and Air Arabia, provide direct flights from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah to Armenia. With round-trip tickets starting from Dh500, exploring the snow-capped mountains and ancient archaeological sites in Armenia has never been more accessible for UAE residents.

Cost and Duration Considerations

When considering costs, the visa on arrival fee stands at approximately $8 (Dh29), allowing a stay of up to 21 days. Also, in comparison, the Armenia eVisa provides flexibility with short-term options for up to 21 days at a cost of $7 (Dh25) and long-term options spanning up to 120 days at $34 (Dh124). Most importantly, it is crucial to note that the eVisa fee is non-refundable, underscoring the importance of careful consideration before application.

Documentation for Visa on Arrival

For those leaning towards a Armenia Visa for UAE Residents-on-arrival approach, there is a need for additional documentation beyond the passport and Emirates ID. So, these should be valid for at least three months. Moreover, Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly recommends having the following documents:

A return ticket

For example, hotel reservation details

Travel insurance

For instance, bank statement

In other words, these prerequisites contribute to a smooth visa-on-arrival process.

Step-by-Step Guide for Armenia eVisa Application

For those choosing the eVisa route, a step-by-step guide ensures a seamless application process:

Visit the Official Website. Firstly, access the official online visa platform at evisa.mfa.am .

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Armenia have officially signed an agreement to facilitate visa-free travel for their respective citizens. This development was commemorated during an official visit by Ararat Mirzoyan, Armenia’s Foreign Minister, to the UAE.

Vahan Kostanyan, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, announced the significant move via social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), stating, “FM @AraratMirzoyan’s official visit to #UAE was marked with a signing ceremony to lift the visa regime for the citizens of #Armenia and #UAE.”

This agreement extends visa-free travel privileges to more than 40 nationalities, including citizens of the UAE. Under the updated regulations, Emirati nationals can now spend up to 180 days per year in Armenia without the need for a visa.

Prior to this agreement, only UAE citizens holding diplomatic passports were eligible to enter Armenia without a visa, based on bilateral and multilateral agreements between the two nations.

It’s important to note that while UAE citizens can now travel to Armenia visa-free, the Visit Dubai website highlights that citizens from Armenia still require a visa to enter the UAE.

Do UAE Residents Need a Visa to Visit Armenia?

As mentioned above, this depends on whether you are also classed as a citizen of the United Arab Emirates.

An Armenia visa from the UAE is not required for Emirates citizens who are visiting the country for tourism purposes for a stay up to 180 days.

The visa exemption applies to Emirati nationals and to citizens of around 60 other countries too. This includes Americans, Brits and Australians.

If you are a resident of one of the 7 Emirates, but not a citizen of the UAE or another visa-exempt country, then the situation is slightly different.

We look at this in more detail below in the “Armenia Visa Requirements for UAE Residents (Non-Nationals)” section.

Editor's note: This story was first published in September, 2022. It is being re-shared to help residents make Eid Al Fitr travel plans.

A dozen countries offer visa-free entry and visa-on-arrival to UAE residents including some highly popular tourist destinations.

Seven countries offer visa-free entry to residents while five countries provide visa-on-arrival facilities.

According to online travel agency Musafir.com, Georgia, Maldives, Seychelles, Kazakhstan, and Jordan provide visa-free entry to UAE residents while Armenia, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Thailand, and Albania offer visa-on-arrival to travellers from the UAE.

Raheesh Babu, COO of Musafir.com, said some of these countries may require additional documents to issue visas for a few nationalities.

Last week, Henley & Partners, a global investment migration consultancy, ranked the UAE passport 15th most powerful in the world with a visa-free or visa-on-arrival score of 176. The UAE passport remains the strongest in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region and the wider Arab World as well.

Declaring the UAE a pandemic winner, Henley & Partners said the UAE has made unprecedented achievements as it emerged as the biggest gainer on the index.

UAE’s strong passport and the high per capita income improve prospects for expatriates in the country to obtain visas from other advanced countries.

Popular visa-free destinations

Babu said Georgia is the most popular visa-free country amongst UAE residents due to affordability, short flying time, availability of halal food and its beautiful countryside.

“From a visa-free entry country’s perspective, Georgia is the most popular and economical destination to travel for UAE residents. Azerbaijan and Armenia, which provide visa-on-arrival, are the most economical countries to travel. The average cost to travel to these countries starts at Dh1,999 for three nights and four days holiday packages,” he said.

For mid-range packages, Babu added Kazakhstan and Jordan are popular for the variety of activities that these locations provide, making these locations popular amongst UAE residents.

Latest:  UAE officials clarify federal travel and testing rules for this summer

UAE residents whose visas expire on or after July 12 will have a month to renew their document or will face fines.

A senior official said regular pre-coronavirus visa rules have resumed as services reopened across the country on Sunday.

At the weekend, the UAE Cabinet announced a three-month grace period for GCC passport holders and UAE residents to renew their visa and residency documents. This applies to people with residency visas or Emirates ID cards that expired after March 1 and before July 12.

For Emiratis and GCC nationals, who do not require residence visas, the documents refer to the validity of their Emirates identity cards.

“The purpose of the amendments was for things to gradually return to normal,” Brig Gen Khamis Al Kaabi, spokesman for the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, said in a radio interview on Monday.

He said the new expiry dates for visas have yet to be updated on the ICA portal but will be soon.

The ICA resumed charging administrative fees for visa services on Sunday.

The announcement on Friday also covered residents outside the UAE who have not been able to return within 180 days.

The National  spoke to Haider Hussain, a partner at Fragomen, an immigration services company, to explain some of the changes.

Who is affected by this new update?

This covers people with existing UAE residence permits whose visas have expired after March 1 and those with visas expected to expire in the coming months.

For GCC nationals, it refers to non-sponsored GCC identity and emirates identity card.

For Emiratis it applies to their Emirates identity cards.

What does the new three-month grace period mean?

For people inside the UAE  whose residence permit expires from  March 1 until July 11, they now have a three-month grace period starting from Saturday. They must renew their visas by October 10.

All residence permit holders whose residency permits expires from July 12 onward will have a 30-day grace period to renew their documents.

Earlier residence permits expiring post March 1 were automatically renewed until the end of December to mitigate for the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. As of July 11, the residency extensions until the end of the year are no longer applicable.

This covers everybody who holds a UAE residence permit that expired after March 1. It covers dependents, employees and maids.

What do I need to do and will I be fined?

Dubai residence visa holders with permits that expired between March 1 to July 11 should begin their renewal. The residency visas should be renewed prior to October 10 to avoid any overstay fines.

For residence permit holders of other emirates, the submission schedule has been announced by ICA.

All residence permit holders whose residence permit expires from July 12 will face overstay fines if they do not renew their documents within the 30-day grace period.

Once government portals are updated, residents can log in and enter their visa details to check the updated expiry date.

To verify visa validity on the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship portal or ICA, visit this website .

Dubai residents can check on the General Directorate of Residence and Foreigners Affairs  portal .

For those in the country, breaking the residency visa rules incurs a fine of Dh25 a day. When leaving the country, the fine is Dh250 plus Dh25 a day.

There is also a daily Dh20 fine for failing to renew an Emirates identity card. This can go up to Dh1,000.

Those sponsoring dependents or housemaids should check the portals for the new expiry dates and renew before the grace period ends.

What about UAE residents outside the country?

If they have not  been out of UAE for more than 180 days, they have one month after they enter to renew their residency visa.

What happens to residents who have been out of the country for more than six months?

The implementation will be clear in the coming weeks for residents whose visas expired after March 1 and have been out of the country for more than 180 days. A specific grace period will be determined by the ICA.

Residents will be permitted to enter the UAE. Once flights resume between the country they are currently in and the UAE, they need to get ICA or GDRFA approval prior to their return.

The understanding is the grace period will be 30 days on entry to the UAE.

Do I need to take a medical test?

For those who renew their residency visas, the earlier renewal process remains. During stay home restrictions, residents received an electronic sticker online to show the visa was extended.

From now on, the renewed residency visa will be stamped on their passport.

When can you begin filing renewal applications?

Authorities have released a schedule for filling renewal applications. Dubai residence visa holders can begin submission of applications. People with residence visas in other emirates need to follow the submission schedule given by the ICA.

For residency visas and emirates identity cards that expired in March and April 2020, the date to resume acceptance of renewal requests is from July 12, 2020, as per the ICA.

I’m leaving on holiday for a few weeks, what should I do?

Residents should renew their residency visa before they travel out of the UAE. Despite the grace period, there could be issues at the airport if updates are not reflected in the system.

Before travelling, people leaving Dubai should also get General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs approval. This works as an entry permit for residents that they need to secure before they exit the UAE.

I have a residency visa, study in a college overseas but now I need to stay in the UAE because my college is closed. What are my options?

If your residency visa expires after March 1, you fall in the same category as those with residency visas and can follow the same process of renewal.

I’m a student of a college overseas. I have been living on a tourist visa with my family in the UAE since March just before international travel shut down. Can I remain in the UAE?

There is a provision to amend a tourist visa to a local residency visa. For children above 18 years and studying abroad, certain criteria must be met and it will be judged on a humanitarian, case by case basis. If the case is genuine and the person cannot exit the UAE, approval may be given by authorities.

This will require a local sponsor that includes a parent or legal guardian.

Students who came into the UAE on tourist visas because universities overseas shut down due to the coronavirus will need to renew if the renewal option exits on their visa.

There is a possibility to renew the tourist visa while remaining in the UAE.

In addition, based on their nationality, certain students can get visa on arrival and stay for 30, 60 or 90 days.

What about newborns of mothers who have delivered overseas?

If the main sponsor is in Dubai and the mother and newborn are overseas, they can file for an ‘out of country’ permit online through the Amer centre.

For Abu Dhabi and other emirates, they can file on the ICA portal for a newborn return, even if the child does not have a residency permit. They can then get a permit when in the country.

What about people who lost jobs or had visas cancelled after March 1?

They have 30 days to find an employer or find a new job. Failing this, they should exit the UAE within 30 days. They can also apply for an in-country 30 or 90-day tourist visa.

The overstay fines payable per day after one month grace is Dh225 for the first day and Dh25 for each subsequent day.

How about people whose visas were cancelled or expired before March 1?

As per the earlier guidance, they have until August 18 to leave. The updated notification does not cover people whose permits were cancelled before March.

What about people entering the UAE for fresh employment?

This applies to Dubai since it has opened up to international flights.

A company based inside a free zone can apply for an entry permit for people outside the UAE.

Such ‘out of country’ entry permits are being filed and approved so people can come into the UAE for a new relocation. 'Out of country' entry permits for dependents have also been reinstated.

The person will need to complete medical fitness tests as part of their residence application when inside Dubai.

What if I receive a fine although my residency visa falls under the grace period?

As you complete the renewal process, during the filing if there is an issue, you can check with the Tadbeer centres or Amer service centres to address such cases. People an also visit the GDRFA customer service centres.

UAE Digital Government issues advisory for expats on residence visa cancellation

  • Environment

Residency file must be closed properly to avoid issues in case you want to return someday

uae-visa-cancelled-stock-pic-1713957566856

Abu Dhabi: You must ensure your UAE residence visa is cancelled properly when you decide to leave the country permanently, as failure to close the residency status may result in complications in case you want to return to the UAE in the future.

The advisory has been shared on the website of the UAE Digital Government (u.ae).

Expats relocating to another country must also cancel the UAE visa of residents whom they have sponsored, such as family members.

The UAE Digital Government, through its website, states: “If you a have a [UAE] residence visa sponsored either by a family member or by your employer, and you decide to leave the country permanently, your residence visa must be cancelled officially.”

The website points out: “Normally, only the sponsor can cancel your residence visa. You cannot process the application on your own.”

What companies must do

If a company decides to cancel an employment visa of its employee, it must first approach Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) with an application to cancel the employee’s labour contract and labour card. The employee must also sign this application. Then, the employer should apply to ICP (Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security) for visa cancellation.

The company must also cancel the work permit. For this, it must submit a letter to MoHRE signed by the employee stating that he or she has already received all the dues, wages and end of services benefits from the employer.

What about individuals who are sponsors?

Individuals sponsoring their spouse, children and other dependents must cancel their dependents’ visas before they cancel their own visa. It normally costs around Dh110 to cancel the visa.

The UAE Digital Government explained that according to the procedures, only the sponsor or someone they delegate on their behalf (such as a PRO, for example, in the case of companies) can proceed with cancelling the residence visa of someone they have sponsored. The sponsored person cannot implement the request without the permission and signature of the sponsor.
