Ratings Criteria
- Fun and informative
- Reasonably priced
- The tour can be longer
This is an early morning excursion to Chichen Itza, which is an ancient Mayan site.
The tour organized by Amigo Tours will last for 12 hours and you will be taken around the site and briefed of its history and culture.
Included in the tour is also a lunch buffet before and after which (preferably before, so you can work up an appetite) you can take a dip in the cenotes, a natural sinkhole formation that the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico is famous for.
Children younger than three years of age can join the tour for free though the ticket price for adults and children aged between 3 and 12 are different.
You can also book yourself tours to Chichen Itza at sunrise and can also make a trip to Tulum and Isla Mujeres with the same company.
Both Chichen Itza and Tulum are great sites to explore for history buffs.
2. Jungle Tour Cancún Adventure (from $45)
12.5, La Isla, Zona Hotelera 77500 Cancún, Q.R (998) 280-0872 Visit Website Social Media Open in Google Maps
- Breathtaking views
- Great tour for all ages
- Can get canceled or rescheduled due to the weather
You will be riding through canals overgrown with mangroves along the Punta Nizuc bay.
During the tour, you will also be able to snorkel and explore the coral reefs in the bay.
If you purchase tickets to the tour online, you may also get a cheaper deal and book a shared boat.
You also do not need any boating experience and can book any of the slots out of 9 am, 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm.
The tours happen every day.
3. Jungle Buggy Tour from Playa del Carmen, Including Cenote Swim
Calle 12 Norte, esquina con Av. 10 Norte, Col. Centro, Gonzalo Guerrero 77710 Playa del Carmen, Q.R., Mexico (984) 218-2973 Visit Website Social Media Open in Google Maps
- Exciting jungle adventure
- Safety equipment is provided
- The ride can be uncomfortable, especially for children
If you’re in for a thrilling yet relaxing adventure, you’ll want to consider joining this tour.
Aside from the scenic jungle, you can take a refreshing dip in a secluded cenote filled with pristine waters and greenery.
The cenote is so private that you’ll feel like you have the spot for yourselves.
Driving a two-seater buggy, you’ll pass through terrains, paths, and hills as you enjoy jungle and wildlife views.
The guides are also entertaining, knowledgeable, and experienced.
The tour is also more interactive since it’s done in small groups.
It’s recommended to bring a hat since dust can get into your hair while riding the buggy.
4. EcoColors Tours – Swim with Whale Shark Tour (from $167)
Calle Caucel Lt 2 Mz. 352 SM 307 Fracc. Lol-Beh, Alfredo V. Bonfil 77560 Cancún, Q.R (998) 884-3667 Visit Website Social Media Open in Google Maps
For a memorable experience of swimming with whale sharks, EcoColors Tours – Swim with Whale Shark Tour is an excellent alternative to Amigo Tours – Chichen Itza Plus and Jungle Tour Cancún Adventure.
Whale sharks are often called gentle giants of the ocean and truly remarkable creatures.
If you have seen photographs of these mammals, you know what I am talking about — magnificent, aren’t they?
Now, imagine being able to swim alongside these wonders of nature.
In Cancun, you can!
These tours are typically offered between May and mid-September and you can book them well in advance.
The tours will also last for 7 hours which will include breakfast and lunch.
I would highly recommend carrying some medicine to prevent motion sickness if you are prone to that.
You may also want to inquire about rash guards as the operators are likely to discourage you from wearing sunscreen in the water in order to protect the reefs and local marine life.
You will arrive at the dock by 7:30 am after being picked up from the hotel.
This is truly an experience of a lifetime!

This is a private tour offered by Cancun Adventure.
It takes only 12 people every day and the operators treat all their guests with the greatest amount of comfort and luxury.
This includes an air-conditioned bus or van that will pick you up from your local hotel and drive to Coba and Tulum, archaeological sites that are located slightly more than an hour’s drive from Cancun.
You will be given two hours at each of these sites and you can explore on your own within that stipulated time.
Of course, the tour guides are always available if you would like anything clarified.
The cost of the trip also includes a lunch buffet of traditional Mayan food.
You can ask for a hotel pickup as early 7 am and be on your way before other tourists start thronging these sites.

Carretera Chetúmal Puerto Juárez Kilómetro 282 Solidaridad, 77710 Playa del Carmen, Q.R (998) 883-3143 Visit Website Social Media Open in Google Maps
Xcaret is a theme park in Cancun that includes some of the most popular activities one can partake in when in Xcaret.
With this tour of Xcaret, you can explore four different kinds of cenotes and also try your hand at adventure sports like rappelling, zip lining, cliff jumping, etc.
This is a daylong tour and you can spend it kayaking and swimming in the underground rivers and exploring the natural as well as man-made wonders of the park.
The trip also includes a “jungle picnic” in which you can enjoy snacks, wine and beer.
Your transportation to and fro will also be taken care of.

4.1 Smz 86 Mz 9 Lote 4 77400 Cancún, Q.R (998) 295-1140 Visit Website Social Media Open in Google Maps
Contoy Eco-Adventure is one of the most amazing local tours and attractions.
Isla Contoy is an island you must make a trip to if you are in Cancun.
This is a protected natural reserve and not too many visitors are allowed per day.
If you make a reservation early on, you and your family can be one of the 200 people that are allowed to visit the island everyday.
This preserved area offers some of the most stunning sights that nature can provide.
You will be able to spot a variety of different birds and also a vibrant marine life if you decide to snorkel.
On the way back to Cancun, you will also make a stop at Isla Mujeres, another stunning slice of nature in the Carribean Sea.
From the preliminary research I have conducted, I find that the reviews indicate this is a good tour for young adults, couples and groups of friends.
If you are traveling with a baby or young kids, you may find the atmosphere a bit too boisterous.
The cost of the ticket also includes breakfast and lunch and the tour begins at 9:30 in the morning and goes on till 5 pm every day.
8. Nautik Adventours – Isla Mujeres Tour (from $607 per group)
Blvd. Kukulcan Km 16 Zona Hotelera, 77500 Cancún, Q.R (998) 147-8454 Visit Website Social Media Open in Google Maps
Isla Mujeres is a stunning island and is one of the best tours to do in Cancun, Mexico.
On this tour with Nautik Adventours, you can explore natural mangroves and other flora and fauna by boat.
Pack your swimsuit, because you can get off to swim and snorkel if you wish.
You can also spread out on the beautiful beach and soak in some sun.
There are two types of trips you can choose between — one that lasts six hours, another that lasts eight hours.
Both trips accommodate up to eight people.
The tour begins at 10 am and depending on the trip you have chosen, you will be back by either 4 pm or 6 pm.

The ruins of Tulum are a must visit if you are in Cancun.
This is a tour that will take you through Riviera Maya and packs in a variety of different treats for the senses in a single day.
This trip will include ancient ruins, coral reefs and a lot of nature.
Apart from the ancient Mayan ruins in Tulum, you can also visit the waterfalls that are one of the biggest attractions of Tulum.
You will also be able to swim in a cenote and also take a soothing walk through the jungle.
The tour will include a lunch buffet and also transportation to and from your resort, hotel, or accommodation.
The tour will last approximately 7 hours.
10. Private Isla Mujeres Catamaran Tour — Nal Gone Boat — For up to 13 people (from $165)
2.5, Kukulcan Boulevard Zona Hotelera, 77500 Cancún, Q.R (998) 980-3309 Visit Website Social Media Open in Google Maps
When you are traveling, it is always wonderful to travel in style (if your pockets allow it).
Book yourself on a luxury catamaran trip to Isla Mujeres where you can enjoy your day at a private beach club.
On the luxury tour, you can explore the island on your own sweet time and will practically feel like the whole island is for you.
The tour also includes lunch alongside an open bar.
The cost of the ticket also includes a pick up and drop off from your hotel.
If you are traveling with a large group, you can easily book the whole catamaran for you and your friends.
Even if you are not traveling with a large group, you are bound to meet some interesting people since the tour takes only 13.
11. Horseback Riding and Cenote Swim from Cancun (from $92)
Km 45 Carretera Federal, Carr Cancún – Tulum, 77710 Playa del Carmen, Q.R (998) 881-9414 Visit Website Social Media Open in Google Maps
If you are holidaying in Mexico, there is a way to experience your time here like you are in an old-school Western, Mexican style.
This tour allows you to go horseback riding through the jungle and then also go swimming in the cenotes.
You can also zipline through the tropical forest and take in the fresh air and beauty of all that surrounds you.
What is great about this tour is that all these adventures are packed into only a few hours.
If you are short on time but want to squeeze in as much fun as possible into your day, this is a great tour for you to pick.
You do not need to be an experienced horseback rider, nor do you need to have certification to dive in the cenotes.
You will also be provided with all the equipment and there will be transportation to and from your hotel.
12. Rio Secreto Underground River Tour with Crystal Caves (from $82)
Puerto Juárez Km 283.5, Ejido Sur 77712 Playa del Carmen, Q.R (984) 242-0074 Visit Website Social Media Open in Google Maps
The Rio Secreto Underground River Tour allows you to experience the nature reserve near Cancun.
This excursion will go on for the whole day and you will be able to swim in some of the most stunning and awe-inspiring underground cave complexes in Mexico.
The crystal caves of the Yucatan Peninsula are some of the most breathtaking sights in the part of the hemisphere and are truly a sight to behold.
Through this trip, you will be able to explore all these natural wonders.
If you pick the right package, you will also get a pickup and drop back to your hotel.
This is a full day’s excursion but is actually a very peaceful way to spend the day given that you will be exploring and swimming in underground caves the whole time.
You may work up an appetite from all that swimming so I would suggest you confirm about meals being provided by the tour operators or pack some snacks of your own.
13. Priority Access: Xplor Adventure Park from Cancun (from $134)
Carretera Chetumal, Puerto Juarez Km 282 77710 Playa del Carmen, Q.R (998) 883-3143 Visit Website Social Media Open in Google Maps
This priority access to Xplor Adventure Park is one of the most exciting ways to experience this park.
Xplor in the evening and after dark is when the forest is the most alive.
The Yucatanean jungle opens its arms to tourists who want to experience the wildlife in the darkness and observe (quietly and respectfully), animals in their natural habitat.
This is a 7-hour tour that takes you through the forest.
You can swim in the underground river systems, zipline through the tropical forest and enjoy the night sky in complete silence but for the sounds of the jungle.
The tour includes an all-you-can-eat buffet (though I would suggest you take it easy because you will have a long night of action ahead of you).

Traveler’s Guide
Comparing excursions: which one is right for you.
Choosing the ideal excursion for your Cancun getaway is child’s play.
Consider the pros and cons of each activity, and then think of your preferences, such as your budget.
For a reasonable price, you’ll have a fun and informative experience at Amigo Tours – Chichen Itza Plus.
But it would be better if the tour was longer.
Travelers of all ages will enjoy the views and adventure at Jungle Tour Cancún Adventure.
However, it’s dependent on the weather.
Jungle Buggy Tour from Playa del Carmen, Including Cenote Swim, is thrilling and safe.
Keep in mind that the ride can be bumpy.
EcoColors Tours – Swim with Whale Shark Tour is an excellent alternative for Amigo Tours – Chichen Itza Plus and Jungle Tour Cancún Adventure.
But other travelers mentioned that they didn’t see whale sharks or the wait can be long to see them.
If ancient wonders stir your soul, Chichen Itza Plus will be like stepping into a living history book.
For thrill-seekers, the Jungle Tour offers high-speed fun and breathtaking views.
If you’re more about off-beaten-track adventures, the Jungle Buggy Tour will feed your adventurous spirit.
And for ocean lovers, the Swim with Whale Shark Tour is a rare opportunity to connect with nature’s majestic giants.
How I Picked The Tours
Mexico is our family’s go-to vacation spot, and Cancun is the city we’ve most visited.
To ensure that my reviews, tips, and experiences were accurate and more detailed, I asked for insights from other travelers and researched the activities comprehensively.
Travel review sites and platforms did a lot of help for the excursions we have yet to try.

Your guide to Cancún
Where do locals hang out in cancun, parque urbano kabah.
This isn’t your typical city park. Here spider monkeys swing through the trees as iguanas get their daily sunning in — all while joggers enjoy a 1-mile loop and children run around a playground. Inside the park, you get to experience real Cancun, where locals on their day off enjoy the trails, a small zoo, the tiny Casa Mayan Museum, and a reprieve from the beach resorts and city center. On Sundays, it’s common to find families enjoying late afternoons and evenings in parks and plazas, and this is one of the best spots to experience it firsthand.
Museo Maya de Cancún
Locals enjoy beating the heat at Museo Maya de Cancún in the afternoon. While the architecture is modern, the history that lives within Museo Maya de Cancún y Zona Arqueológica de San Miguelito is ancient. It houses 3,500 artifacts (featuring roughly 400 on display at time) that showcase the ritual and domestic objects of the ancient Mayans who lived along Quintana Roo. Don’t miss the 12,000-year-old skeleton of La Mujer de las Palmas (The Woman of the Palms), a woman discovered in a cenote near Tulum. Afterward, head out to the quiet jungle-clad San Miguelito Ruins to imagine what Cancun looked like thousands of years ago.
Avenida Yaxchilan
This is the real-deal nightlife scene in Cancun. Situated in the heart of Cancun Centro, here is where you can find live mariachi music, hit the bars, and enjoy tacos, sopas, empanadas, and more of the best food in the city.
What do locals eat in Cancun?
There’s nothing like a home-cooked meal, especially in a place like Cancun. Families love to get together for tamales, sopa de lima, and other comfort foods; consider a cooking class to learn how to make some of these specialities. Tacos are a big deal here, and one of the best ways to eat like a local in Cancun is to join one on a walking tour to some of the best downtown taco spots.
For those who want more, head outside of Cancun on day trips to ancient ruins including Tulum, Chichen Itza, and Isla Mujeres and stop for lunch to try traditional Yucatan comfort food such as cochinita pibil (typically shredded pork wrapped in banana leaves) and huevos motuleños, as well as some of the region’s freshest seafood.
What are the best day trips from Cancun?
Culture and wonder in tulum and coba.
Tulum, once a walled city that served as the port of Coba, is known as one of the best preserved Mayan cities along coastal Yucatán. The Temple of the Frescoes is one of the major draws to Tulum, where you can see remains of once colorful murals and impressive faces and figures etched into the exterior of the two-story building. Most visitors descend a long, narrow staircase at the end of the guided portion to dip their toes in the warm waters of the Caribbean.
Experience Chichen Itza
Head into the jungle to visit Chichen Itza, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for the 79-foot (24-meter) step Kukulcan Pyramid—more commonly known as El Castillo—as well as the Temple of Warriors and the Great Ball Court. Chichen Itza is most famous for myths about figures such as Kukulkan, a feathered serpent god, who is believed to make an appearance as a long, slithering shadow cast upon El Castillo’s north-facing steps at sunrise and sunset during spring and fall equinoxes.
Scuba diving in Cozumel
Home to the National Reef Marine Park, Cozumel is an underwater museum. Take scuba tours to explore the colorful reefs. Within the park is Chankanaab which translates to “little sea” and it’s an otherworldly exploration into the region’s protected flora and fauna.
Relaxing in Isla Mujeres
Boat and catamaran tours to Isla Mujeres operate daily (always check schedules). On the island, stay on shore for local art, dining, and shopping. For those who want to get in the water, go snorkeling through coral reefs, or scuba diving at Museo Subacuático de Arte. It’s one of the largest underwater museums in the world, with more than 500 permanent life-size sculptures.

Wonders of the Maya
An excellent tour to appreciate and learn about the Mayan civilisation. Very happy to have done this. Miguel is a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic tour guide with a good sense of humour. We felt very safe in the hands of our driver, Edgar. All of the hotels were decent and centrally located. We had a minor issue with the airport transfer to the hotel as we didn’t see anyone holding out a sign with our name. The assistance contact number provided by Destination Services was useless, no one answered when we called. Luckily we had the number of the guide, he helped us find the right guy in the busy Cancun airport!
Mini Wonders of the Maya
Miguel was an excellent guide that took us through Valladolid, Chichen Itza, Merida, Izamal and Uxmal. He knew the history and was able to answer every question we asked of him and gave us many good recommendations. This tour group never pushed us to buy any products at any point, but only stopped at a predetermined point for lunch every day, while dinner was up to us. Breakfast was always included. The only low point was the hotel on the last night (Merida) where the shower only had lukewarm water and the staff at the breakfast table kept messing up orders. Overall: the mini wonders of the Maya tour was the perfect amount of time to get to know a little bit of Mayan history. You can do a longer tour but doing 4 days is the perfect length before you may be off to a resort. I would definitely recommend this tour to any of my friends or family.

Mexico Yucatán Experience
A brilliant trip with a great combination of activities and an excellent tour guide who was so fun and helpful along the way and who shared so much information with us about Mexican history and culture.
Mayan Sun Southbound: Boat Rides & Ruins
Itinerary was good, with appropriate stay time at each destination. Chris was an amazing guide who managed the group well. Homestay experience was average, would recommend changing for a lunch only, with more time at Panajachel or Casa del Mundo. Very basic accommodation at San Ignacio - uncomfortable beds.

Mayan Adventure
Extensive 6 day tour of Mexico and the history of the Mayans very good tour guides the hotels were good too! It was very enjoyable as on older couple it was quite a ‘full on’ tour with early starts and long drives but we still had a great time and it was the best way to get a real feel of the country.
The Mystical Mayan Trail: A Trip Through Mexico's Vibrant Culture and Natural Beauty
8 Days Tailor-Made Best Mexico Tour, Daily Start
Our guide Enrique and driver Riccardo we’re both very accomodating and provided great support making our trip stress free. At every stop Enrique checked accomodation, explained breakfast, meals and checked the room. His knowledge of each site and the historical context of significant events was exceptional. We would highly recommend this trip with this guide and driver

Merida City Break - 3 Days
The accomodations were great, the first tour guide was awesome. However, the second tour guide to Chichen Itza LOST me during the tour and I was traumatized in a sea of 4,000+ people...Stay close to the guide!

Best of Chiapas and Yucatan
The tour was excellent! Guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. The pace of the tour was great and I was very happy with the accomodation they booked for me. Highly recommend!
What people love about Cancun Tours
This tour was AMAZING. Daniel, our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable about all the Mayan sites we visited. He also did ALL THE WORK of securing admission tickets so that we did not have to wait in any long lines. Along the way, he took us to some wonderful & always delicious restaurants for lunch. He also advised us on good places to eat dinner in each of our hotel stays. What's more, he advised in several places to eat at the hotel since walking into the urban areas
Thoroughly enjoyed this tour, it was just what I was looking for. Daniel was a lovely guide. Lots of travelling but very well organised and sufficient time at each place, considering the itinerary. Very nice hotel in Valladolid. Hotel in Merida was in a good location but was noisy (though I was fine and slept well as I wore ear plugs ?).
Awesome trip, great way to see so much of Mexico in a short space of time. Top moments were the beach at Holbox, swimming in the 7 colours lagoon, experiencing the cenotes, all the guacamole, delicious breakfast recommendations, seeing Xichen Itsa and biking in Tulum. Our guide was Eve and she was THE BEST. We have done a bunch of other trips and she was by far the most personable, creative, fun, lovely person with a lot of experience and wonderful ability to share her knowledge with us. Highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants to party and catch a lot of culture all in one trip. I loved that the group was only 10 people, gave us a chance to meet everyone and there wasn’t a divide in the group nor too many people.

18 Best Things To Do in Cancun
Cancún, Mexico, is known for its white sand beaches, its adventure tours and the many must-see attractions you can visit nearby. For example, this region of Mexico earns praise for cultural landmarks like Chichén Itzá and the underwater art museum
- All Things To Do
Chichén Itzá Chichén Itzá
U.S. News Insider Tip: Visit El Mestizo, about 3.5 miles from Chichén Itzá, for an authentic Mexican lunch after touring the archeological site. I recommend ordering the pollo adobado, which remains one of my favorite chicken meals I've ever had abroad. – Leilani Osmundson
Chichén Itzá is a large Mayan archaeological site and one of the most notable and recognized landmarks on the Yucatán peninsula. The site itself was originally a main hub of Mayan civilization and has since been named a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The focal point of the ruins is the pyramid-like El Castillo that was once used by Mayans as a temple to the god Kukulkan.
Isla Mujeres Isla Mujeres
U.S. News Insider Tip: For close proximity to Isla Mujeres during your beach vacation, consider staying at the Grand Fiesta Americana Coral Beach Cancún hotel, located on the tip of Zona Hotelera. The ferry to Isla Mujeres departs from Playa Caracol, which is located just a few minutes' walk from the hotel. – Holly D. Johnson
To escape the frantic beat of Cancún's nightlife and beaches, head to Isla Mujeres ("Island of Women"). There is little to do on this 5-mile island just a 30-minute ferry ride from Cancún, but travelers like it that way.
Playa Tortugas Playa Tortugas free
Widely considered a beach spot for locals, Playa Tortugas is known for its relaxed atmosphere and clean sands. The area also boasts impressive views and travelers report several places nearby to grab a meal or drink. From here, daily ferries also depart for Isla Mujeres .
Some travelers enjoy Tortugas so much that they choose the area over their own hotel's beach. Visitors appreciated that the public beach is free to enjoy and the water is calm and relaxing (a particular highlight for those traveling with children). Others warned of pushy salespeople and crowded sands. Playa Tortugas is located in Cancún just northwest of the Hotel Zone and accessible by bus or rental car. Umbrella and chair rentals are also available.

El Rey Ruins El Rey Ruins
While they may not have the awe factor of Chichén Itzá , the El Rey Ruins have convenience on their side. Located in the heart of the Hotel Zone, these ruins are extremely accessible to visitors, and the site's small size makes it easy to see in a short time. Thought to be used as a royal retreat at one point, El Rey dates back to 1250.
But for many past visitors, the ruins themselves were not the primary attraction: people flock to El Rey to mingle with the hundreds of iguanas that have invaded the former Mayan town, saying the iguanas make for some unforgettable photo-ops.
Isla Contoy Isla Contoy
Isla Contoy National Park is a small island located off the coast of mainland Mexico, north of Cancún and Isla Mujeres . For the most part, this island is known for its stunning white sand beaches and spectacular nature views, and as a refuge for seabirds (more than 170 species) and other marine wildlife. The island is located alongside the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second longest reef in the world, which makes it an ideal spot for snorkeling or diving to see coral, tropical fish or both in some of the clearest waters in all of the Caribbean.
The only way to visit Isla Contoy is through a boat tour company, but the trip can be worth it since the small destination only allows up to 200 visitors per day. While some boat tours that visit Isla Contoy include snorkeling, lunch or both, many also combine the visit with a few hours at Isla Mujeres. Either way, most boat tours that visit the island start at around $130 per adult, with many costing upwards of $150.
Cancún Golf Courses Cancún Golf Courses
With tropical weather and luxury resorts luring tourists from around the globe, it's no surprise that a world-class golf scene has developed around Cancún. With numerous distinct options, the biggest issue facing golfers is where they should schedule a tee time. One memorable range is the 18-hole Playa Mujeres Golf Club, which players describe as a satisfying mix of challenging and scenic. However, reviewers do note that the course is expensive to play if you're not a guest at the Dreams or Secrets resorts. Alternatively, El Camaleón Mayakoba at the Fairmont Mayakoba, Riviera Maya offers 18 holes on a course that winds through natural features like cenotes, mangroves and jungles.
Past travelers praised the assortment of golf options associated with Cancún's numerous resorts. One favorite is the Iberostar Golf Club Cancún at the Iberostar Selection Cancún , which golfers commend for its excellent customer service. However, reviewers have said the course is expensive to play. Additionally, know there are crocodiles on the course so you should make sure to bring extra golf balls or buy some on-site so you don't have to retrieve a lost ball. Moon Palace Cancún also boasts a signature golf course, which provides 27 holes designed by Jack Nicklaus. Past visitors appreciated the inclusion of a driving range and practice green among the golf-related amenities.
Avenida Kukulkan Avenida Kukulkan free
Even if you don't seek out Avenida Kukulkan, you'll likely cross its path at least once during your Cancún vacation. That's because Avenida Kukulkan is Cancún's main artery, stretching from downtown through the hotel zone and running south toward the airport. The avenue is lined with pathways and an endless number of shops and eateries, along with hotels and resorts. If you're not strolling along the avenue, you'll likely be riding the bus along it since this is the main route for the buses most frequently used by tourists.
Recent travelers described Avenida Kukulkan as a safe, well-maintained and well-lit, place to walk or jog. In fact, the street is a great place to get in some exercise on your vacation since there are ample sidewalks the whole route. Still, some travelers say there isn't much to do here other than get from one place to another or see the towering hotels that occupy the area.
Playa Delfines Playa Delfines free
If you're tired of the standard beaches along the Hotel Zone, try heading to Playa Delfines, which is a largely undeveloped ribbon of sand located near the El Rey ruins . Likewise, the beach often lacks the heavy crowds found elsewhere throughout the Hotel Zone. This is also where you'll find the colorful "Cancún" sign featured on many of the city's postcards and brochures.
Travelers regard Playa Delfines as the quintessential escapist's beach as there is very little in terms of umbrellas or shade and few vendors hawking goods or services. Just be mindful of heavy currents and riptides, since the beach is known for its rough waters.

Avenida Tulum Avenida Tulum free
While Avenida Kukulkan provides the primary artery for Cancún's Hotel Zone, Avenida Tulum serves as the main thoroughfare through the mainland portion of Cancún. The boulevard cuts straight through downtown, providing an excellent avenue for people-watching and exploring. Between restaurants, hotels and other stores, visitors will find an assortment of landmarks along the avenue, including two well-known and oft-photographed statues, the Monumento a la Historia de México and the Fuente del Ceviche. Additionally, Palacio Municipal, headquarters of the municipal government, sits along Avenida Tulum and is sandwiched between a public park and a sculpture garden.
Past travelers enjoyed strolling around Palacio Municipal and the surrounding streets, which offers a unique and much less touristy atmosphere from Cancún's Hotel Zone. Many also rave about the affordable shopping here, as well as the inexpensive places to grab a bite to eat.
Playa Marlin Playa Marlin free
Situated in the Hotel Zone about a 5-minute walk from the Kukulkan Plaza shopping mall, Playa Marlin offers a broad stretch of sugar white sand. There's also lifeguards and beach supplies, such as chairs and umbrellas, for rent.
Recent travelers said that Playa Marlin is a beautiful public beach, perfect for those who aren't staying at a beachside resort . Still, some warn of powerful waves and strong undertow. Though the waters can be too rough for swimming, they're great for water sports like parasailing.
Nichupté Lagoon Nichupté Lagoon
Nichupté Lagoon is a vast tropical paradise that's located in between mainland Cancún and the strip of land that makes up the hotel zone. This region has become a natural reserve for the mangrove ecosystem, and it is made up of seven different lakes.
Not only is Nichupté Lagoon popular for fishing, but it sees a range of visitors that participate in activities like kayaking, canoeing and underwater activities like snorkeling throughout the year. The lagoon is also popular for its wildlife tours, which let eager visitors check out local animals like seabirds, migratory birds and crocodiles.
Museo Maya de Cancún Museo Maya de Cancún
Museo Maya de Cancún houses archeological pieces from significant historic sites across Mexico. Within its exhibit halls, the museum displays a range of archeological artifacts, many of which were found at Chichén Itzá , Palenque and Comalcalco. In addition to its memorable artifacts, Museo Maya de Cancún's architecture proves impressive. It boasts floor-to-ceiling, hurricane-resistant glass windows – a necessary design element following the original anthropology museum's closure in 2004 due to hurricane damage.
Past visitors appreciated the archeological site adjacent to the museum, which offers walking trails to explore. They also recommended visiting the museum on a rainy day, as most of Cancún's alternative attractions are outdoors. Many also remarked that some, but not all, of the information shared within the museum was offered in both English and Spanish.
El Parque de las Palapas El Parque de las Palapas free
This small plaza sits in downtown Cancún and blurs the lines between a local and tourist hot spot. Fans of street food will appreciate the assortment of vendors that line the park and offer delicious Mexican dishes. Past visitors praise the readily available churros and marquesitas (a crepe-like dessert). If you enjoy live music, the area also boasts a stage for performances, which generally occur on Friday evenings.
While the park is open 24/7, past travelers suggest visiting in the early evening when you can combine your trip with a fresh, local meal. El Parque de las Palapas sits in downtown Cancún, roughly 6 miles west of the northern end of the Hotel Zone. The plaza's position – a block off Avenida Tulum – makes it easily accessible for anyone staying in or exploring the downtown area.

Museo Subacuático de Arte (MUSA) Museo Subacuático de Arte (MUSA)
Unlike a traditional museum, Museo Subacuático de Arte (Underwater Museum of Art) is composed of concrete structures spread across the seafloor. The underwater museum sits somewhere between Isla Mujeres and the Hotel Zone and is divided into three areas: Manchones, Punta Nizuc and Punta Sam. The more than 470 sculptures found within Manchones are only accessible via scuba diving. Punta Nizuc houses 33 sculptures, which travelers can see while snorkeling in the area. The nine sculptures visible at Punta Sam sit in the shallowest water. Travelers who'd prefer to stay on land can swing by the MUSA's small gallery near downtown Cancún.
In general, past travelers praised the unique experience. Many reviewers also agreed the trip to the underwater museum is well worth it to see the colorful fish and the lifelike statues firsthand. Others were disappointed that they didn't see more statues during boat and snorkel trips.
Xavage Park by Xcaret Xavage Park by Xcaret
Xavage Park by Xcaret is a thrill park that offers activities the entire family can enjoy. Basic admission includes a ropes course, the chance to go kayaking and access to the park's splash zone. Meanwhile, the more robust package includes whitewater rafting, a jet boat ride, a ropes course, monster truck rides, zip lines, kayaking and splash zone access. Both packages include snacks, a buffet meal and nonalcoholic drinks. Note that some age and height restrictions apply to these activities, such as the fact that drivers must be at least 5.2 feet (and passengers must be 4 feet tall) to ride in the monster truck. Children younger than 12 but taller than 4.5 feet must be able to verify their age with a photo ID.
Past visitors seem to agree the park is clean and well run. Most say they had a great time and stayed active while enjoying the weather and scenery. Reviewers also said the food included in the package was tasty.
La Isla Shopping Village La Isla Shopping Village free
Travelers in search of a little retail therapy will appreciate the assortment of storefronts in La Isla Shopping Village, including options like Abercrombie & Fitch, Prada and Studio F. True to its name, the open-air shopping area is separated from the rest of Cancún's Hotel Zone by a small canal. It is also located just north of Playa Marlín .
Past visitors were delighted by the mall's offerings, which include a Ferris wheel and an interactive aquarium that hosts regular dolphin shows, in addition to numerous food options. Along with a selection of assorted eateries, the shopping village also houses clothing and souvenir stores in its collection of retail options.
Xoximilco Xoximilco
Xoximilco claims to be a "floating fiesta in Cancún," but it's much more than that. This Mexican theme park aims to explore and celebrate local culture through food, music and games. Visitors get the opportunity to learn and experience Mexican traditions and folklore throughout each visit. Essentially, Xoximilco is a cultural experience that includes a boat ride plus dinner and entertainment.
A ticket to Xoximilco comes with a range of included amenities and activities, such as a gondola ride through festive canals, a Mexican dinner and culinary experience, an open bar, a range of live music performances and a personal guide.
Coco Bongo Cancun Coco Bongo Cancun
Considered the spot for nightlife in Cancún, Coco Bongo isn't your traditional, DJ-controlled nightclub. Instead, thousands of travelers pack the house to witness nonstop performances from acrobats, conga lines, live bands and musician impersonators. A typical night at Coco Bongo involves projected videos, balloons, soap bubbles and confetti.
While Coco Bongo is a nonstop amalgam of cocktails and dancers, you can also dance the night away on the club's dance floor. If you're seeking some stage antics and endless performances, that's another reason Coco Bongo is definitely worth a try. Most travelers say that they had a great night at Coco Bongo, even if their seats offered poor views, there were long lines for drinks and the tickets were expensive.

Looking for the best Cancun zipline tours? There are plenty, as zipline parks abound and offer all kinds of adventures. Let’s check out the best zipline activities you can try!
Get ready for an adrenaline-pumping, heart-thumping experience as we take you on a journey through the best ziplines in Cancun. Soar high above the lush jungles and breathtaking landscapes , feeling the wind in your hair and the excitement in your soul.
There is no doubt that ziplining is one of the most popular Cancun activities and tours . Nothing quite beats the exhilaration of flying over the jungle. And while the city is mostly known for its beaches and nightlife, if you want to zipline in Yucatan Peninsula, Cancun is a great spot to do so.
I’ve ziplined in a few places around the world, but the two zipline tours I’ve done in Tulum and Cancun were the most memorable ones . Some of the zipline parks you’ll read about are just insane!
The height, the speed, the variety of ziplines… it’s really difficult to find such incredible zip lining in the world.
Whether you’re a first-time flyer or a seasoned zipline aficionado, we’ve got the lowdown on the top spots to unleash your inner adventurer. Strap in, hold tight, and let’s zip through the 10 very best Cancun zipline tours.
I personally trust and use Viator to book activities when I travel, and I especially recommend it because it offers an excellent free cancellation policy. For most activities, you can cancel up to 24 hours in advance and get a full refund.
Limited time? These are the ultimate options 👇

The Xplor Adventure Park offers all sorts of fun activities. From swimming in subterranean rivers to gliding on a raft through stalactite caves, there’s something for everyone. Even if you’re after driving an amphibious vehicle through jungle roads and flooded caverns!

Besides, you’ll have a full-day admission ticket, so you can enjoy the Xplor Cancun zipline and all the other thrilling adventures. Paddle through caves, get off-road on your ATV, and fly over the jungle canopy, getting a thrill from each activity.
You’ll also indulge in a spectacular buffet lunch, and enjoy the open bar.
👉 Why is this tour our pick? Xplor is the most visited zipline park in the world, and for good reason. This epic adventure park offers not just one, but 14 exhilarating ziplines in two circuits.
Making the best of the natural scenery, they have hammock rides that end with a splash on a natural pool. They also have the highest zipline in Cancun; it’s 49 meters high!
I had a blast at this park, and would definitely go back on my next visit the area. I also feel that Xplor’s commitment to safety makes it the ultimate choice for ziplining Cancun.
