Alyson gave us the perfect honeymoon in Costa Rica, from properties which matched our every preference to all the special touches that made us feel like royalty.
I’m not sure how she managed to get a copy of our wedding photo and arrange for it to be displayed in our room when we arrived, but that was just one example of her thoughtfulness and ingenuity in designing an exceptional and highly personal experience!

Hwy 10 lane closures, delays begin east of St. Cloud April 15
Cable median barrier to prevent crossover crashes ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Motorists will encounter periodic lane closures on eastbound Highway 10 from St. Cloud to Clear Lake as crews install high-tension cable median barrier, reports the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
On Monday, April 15, motorists should begin to watch for roadwork signs, lane closures, lane shifts and reduced speeds. Expect multiple crews and equipment working at different locations within the nine-mile work zone. Work will occur on good weather days during daylight hours until mid-May. Both traffic lanes will be open on Sundays.
High-tension cable median barriers are made of three or four steel cables strung on posts. When a vehicle hits the barrier, the posts break and cables flex, absorbing much of a crash’s kinetic energy. This redirects the vehicle along the median, preventing a severe or fatal cross-median crash. When complete, the $2.8 million safety improvement project is intended to prevent crossover collisions with on-coming motorists and save lives. To learn more about the benefits of cable median barriers, visit MnDOT’s traffic engineering web page .

What Is Cloud Tourism – and Is It Here To Stay?
Commissioning Editor
“New normal”, “unprecedented times”, “social distancing” – these are phrases that have become all too familiar in recent months during the coronavirus pandemic. And in travel, “virtual tourism”, or “cloud tourism” as it’s known in China, is taking off. Culture Trip looks at the long-term effects on the industry.
Without much in the way of external stimulation during lockdown, in the UK, United States and Canada, the search volume for “virtual tourism” has spiked dramatically. Meanwhile China , which is going through a gradual loosening of its restrictions, has seen a continual interest in virtually exploring the world through what is known there as “cloud tourism”.
This kind of “at-home” tourism includes a whole host of experiences. Tuning into livestreams of entire trips – some as long as two weeks – has proven popular, as have city, museum and art exhibition tours . The term “virtual art museum tours” has seen exponential growth, mostly across the UK and US, with 14,800 searches in April up from zero in March.
A survey conducted by Culture Trip found that enhancing future in-person experiences was a reason for tuning into these virtual museum tours. It also found that Google Street View, which is particularly popular in China, has been utilised to inspire future travel to cities.
In the UK , where tourism spending is forecast to drop by about 54 percent this year – that’s a prospective £15.1bn loss to the economy – the British Tourist Authority have been busy encouraging potential visitors to see destinations through another lens. “Virtual tourism and the innovative use of technology have been important in keeping our tourism offer in the international spotlight while global travel is at a standstill due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” Tracey Edginton, of VisitBritain/VisitEngland, says. Virtual festivals, interactive whisky tastings and food tours have been among the organised events. “Our top priority is to ensure that tourism rebounds, to become once again one of the most successful sectors of the UK economy,” she says. “We are working across the industry and with the UK Government to ensure that the sector can recover as quickly as possible once restrictions are lifted.” Search trends show that cultural events have drawn virtual crowds from around the globe. “Online concert” has cropped up as a new term, jumping to 33,100 in April compared to zero in March. Artists including Diplo and Dillon Francis have been among those to perform from the comfort of home.
Expanding skillsets has also been a trend in online behaviours. “Online cooking classes” saw a 300 percent search increase from March to April, with 14,800 people searching for new dishes to learn virtually, up from 3,600.
Meanwhile, cloud tourism has become the driving force behind pre-sales. In China, the Suzhou Museum saw 5.8m viewers tune in for a single livestream, which encouraged a boost in pre-sales and museum souvenirs. And following a live tour of the Atlantis Sanya Hotel, ¥10 million (£1.15m) was generated in bookings in one hour.

News & features, winter center, total solar eclipse cloud forecast: will clouds spoil your view.
Clouds aren't the only concern for eclipse viewers. Severe weather could present problems for thousands traveling to and from viewing destinations.
Published Apr 1, 2024 9:23 AM PDT | Updated Apr 8, 2024 11:52 AM PDT
What will make this year’s eclipse different from the one in 2017? When will the next one be in the U.S.? We’re answering those questions and much more.
The final countdown is underway! In just a few hours, the moon's shadow casts part of the United States into darkness for a few fleeting moments, and the deciding factor of whether or not people in the path of totality see the event may boil down to one thing: clouds.
The eclipse takes place on Monday, April 8, and for areas in the path of totality, it will be an afternoon affair, with the exact timing varying depending on your location. People outside of the path of totality will still be able to see a partial solar eclipse as long as clouds don't spoil the show.
AccuWeather's latest total solar eclipse cloud forecast is looking promising for some but concerning for others, AccuWeather lead long-range forecaster Paul Pastelok said. Most places in the vicinity of the path of totality will have to deal with some level of clouds, whether high or low. But there are some areas with good viewing expected.
Where will the best weather be for viewing the eclipse?
The best viewing near the path of totality is from Missouri to Ohio and most of New England. Some high clouds will block the viewing at times from Dallas to Amarillo, but the skies will still offer a decent showing.
"The clearing zone is pushing quickly across Indiana and Ohio this morning. However, some high clouds will continue to streak south to north in this region," Pastelok said. "Viewing looks good for cities like Indianapolis, Detroit, Cleveland and possibly improving in Pittsburgh during the eclipse."
The best areas to watch with more sunshine will be eastern and northern New England, eastern Carolinas and Georgia, and a narrow band from southern New Mexico, central Plains and Ohio Valley. In addition, the viewing looks better in Florida and California, away from the path of totality.
"Major cities like Los Angeles, El Paso, New York City, Boston and Raleigh should all have nice views of the eclipse from start to finish," Pastelok said.
What areas face a cloudy forecast for Monday?
Places along or near the path of totality with more adverse viewing conditions due to low to mid-level clouds are from southeastern Texas to western and central Pennsylvania and parts of western and central New York state.
"Other areas with poor viewing conditions will be from Wisconsin westward through South Dakota and Nebraska to Washington and Oregon," AccuWeather long-range meteorologist Joe Lundberg explained.
Severe weather threat to eclipse viewers
In addition to the cloud forecast, there are a few factors involved in the weather pattern after the eclipse that could affect those traveling from viewing locations. Strong winds, dangerous lightning strikes, hail and perhaps a few tornadoes could threaten those traveling back home Monday night and Tuesday.
Showers and drenching thunderstorms can occur across east Texas and the lower Mississippi Valley on Monday and slowly move northward into southern Oklahoma later in the day and night. Strong winds, dangerous lightning strikes, hail and perhaps a few tornadoes could threaten those traveling home from eclipse viewing the night of April 8 and during the day of April 9. Areas along and north of Interstate 10 in Texas may have to deal with severe thunderstorms during this period.
AccuWeather Senior Director of Forecasting Operations, Dan DePodwin is urging eclipse travelers to be aware of their surroundings. “With so many people traveling to unfamiliar areas and camping or staying in an RV, it’s important to take a few minutes to locate your nearest storm shelter. It may be a sturdy restroom building, campground office, a nearby public storm shelter, or even a 24-hour retail store,” he said.
The slow-moving storms can lead to flooded roadways, especially along interstates 10, 20 and 30 from central Texas to the western Tennessee Valley during this period. Flooding downpours can impact interstates 20, 30 and 40 across northeastern Texas, southeastern Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Kentucky and Tennessee Monday night into Tuesday.

Total solar eclipse forecast shows who has best chance for clear skies on Monday
A clear sky is key to watching the april 8th total solar eclipse. the fox forecast center has put together a forecast showing areas more or less likely to be impacted by cloud cover during the eclipse..
Total solar eclipse forecast shows where clouds could interfere with viewing on Monday
America's Total Eclipse is happening today. Here's the latest outlook from the FOX Forecast Center showing which regions of the U.S. will have the best viewing conditions and which areas might have to contend with cloud cover.
Forecasts for the total solar eclipse show the best viewing conditions will likely be found in parts of New England and the Midwest , while clouds might obscure the view of the eclipse in portions of Texas and the interior Northeast .
On Monday, a total solar eclipse will be visible across parts of Mexico , Canada and the U.S. , from Texas to Maine . A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and the Earth , completely blocking the face of the Sun for several minutes. It will be the last time a total solar eclipse passes over a large part of the U.S. until 2044 .
LIVE COVERAGE: TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE APRIL 2024
To experience the full eclipse, you'll need a pair of solar glasses and to be located along the more than 100-mile-wide path during totality. A clear sky is also key to watching a total solar eclipse .
The FOX Forecast Center has put together the cloud cover forecast shown on the map below, showing areas predicted to have an overcast sky, many clouds or few clouds during the eclipse. This map will continue to be updated right up until the eclipse on Monday afternoon.
TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE LIVE TRACKER: CLOUD FORECASTS FOR CITIES, STATES IN PATH OF TOTALITY
The FOX Forecast Center said the trend for clearer skies is holding at the northeastern end of the path of totality in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont , but some clouds may still be floating around areas near and downwind of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario in northern Ohio , northwestern Pennsylvania and parts of western, central and upstate New York .
Buffalo , New York, is currently forecast to have clouds during the event, but less cloud cover is expected to the north and east. The forecast is looking favorable for Caribou , Maine, among the last cities to see the eclipse in the U.S. before the path of totality heads into Atlantic Canada.
For the Midwest, the forecast is looking better, with just a few clouds around Paducah , Kentucky , and near St. Louis , Missouri , but cloud cover will likely increase closer to the Great Lakes region from Indianapolis , Indiana , to Cleveland , Ohio .
AMERICA'S TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE TO PLUNGE MILLIONS INTO DARKNESS ACROSS U.S. MONDAY AFTERNOON
Severe thunderstorms possible in South on eclipse day
Many of the prime viewing spots in Texas, including Austin and San Antonio , are currently forecast to have overcast skies or many clouds on Monday.
In addition to the cloud cover, NOAA's Storm Prediction Center has highlighted portions of Texas, Oklahoma , Arkansas and Louisiana for a severe weather threat on Monday .
This risk zone includes Dallas , San Antonio , Austin , Waco and Texarkana in Texas, as well as other towns in the southern Plains and lower Mississippi Valley along the path of totality.
Severe storms expected in path of totality of Monday's solar eclipse
Nearly the entire eclipse's path of totality within Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas faces a severe weather risk beginning Monday afternoon. The hope is that the thunderstorms might hold off just long enough into the afternoon after the eclipse passes through the region. Even so, severe weather later in the afternoon and evening could catch travelers off guard in what is expected to be heavy traffic through the rest of the day as eclipse gazers head home.

Sneaker Expert Agrees: These On Cloud Shoes Are Perfect for Travel
If you're traveling, these slip-on sneakers are a must.
Share this:
As the weather continues to warm up and spring makes itself known, we know our readers are looking for the best shoes for travel . Once again Zappos’ Senior Running/Cycling Footwear Buyer Jewels Busenberg has come to the rescue! This time, she’s sharing what she considers to be the best sneaker for travel (but it’s also a great shoe to wear all spring and summer long)! Meet the On Cloud 5 Coast Slip-On Sneaker.
“ With warmer weather fast approaching, we’re seeing more people choosing slip-ons and flip-flops as their footwear of choice ,” Busenberg explains. “ And while these are fantastic choices for the spring or summer, there’s one stylish, lightweight, and packable shoe that’s perfect for anything happening this season — the On Cloud 5 Coast! “
We’ve talked about On’s sneakers before. Busenberg elaborates: “ On has several iterations in their Cloud series including the Cloud 5 , originally made for urban exploration, Cloud 5 Waterproof , and the Cloud 5 Terry , which features soft-touch fabrics. Known as On’s lightest shoe in the collection, the On Cloud 5 Coast guarantees you comfort and versatility. ”
But Busenberg’s preference? The On Cloud 5 Coast.
On Cloud 5 Coast: The Most Comfortable Slip-On Shoes for Travel
“ As a traveler, I’m often considering my mental checklist before packing an item ,” Busenberg shares. “ The On Cloud 5 Coast always passes as it’s comfortable enough to wear all day given the CloudTec cushioning, it’s easily packable only taking up as much space as a slim flip flop, and it’s versatile when it comes to style .”
On® Cloud 5 Coast Sneakers
Buy from Zappos, $150
“ What makes the On Cloud 5 Coast unique is that it has a shape-shifting form allowing the user to wear it as a regular shoe or as a slip-on thanks to its fully collapsible kick-down heel ,” Busenberg says.
More to Love
- Sweat-wicking sock liner allows you to forgo socks
- Rubber-reinforced outsole
- On’s Patented CloudTec cushioning
- Multiple colorways! Busenberg loves the white (pictured), but they also come in hay-ivory, heather-chambray, and ivory-acacia
Customers Agree : “ I love the pull on speed lace style, and these are incredibly light. I am traveling to Europe this summer so these will be a perfect packable set of comfy shoes for all the walking on cobblestones. The periwinkle color is absolutely gorgeous and different. It is subtle so can be worn with many different colors and styles .”
In addition to being the perfect shoe to wear when you travel, these sneakers have a bunch of other features you’ll love, including being super simple to style! “ On a recent trip, I styled three different outfits with this shoe ,” Busenberg says. “ It’s so easy to mix and match. Some reliable outfits that look great include leggings and a yoga tank, a bathing suit and a cover-up, and jeans shorts and a white tank . I often wear them to my kid’s sports practices or slip them on as I run out the door. “
Busenberg adds: “ Also, a hot tip when it comes to these shoes — they have a rubber-enforced outsole to help prevent against slipping if you happen to walk in water! “
If you’re looking for extremely comfortable sneakers this spring, Busenberg can’t recommend the On Cloud 5 Coast Sneakers enough. Get yours from Zappos today!

10 Unforgettable Rainforest Canopy Adventures – Soaring Above the Trees in 2024
Posted: February 22, 2024 | Last updated: February 22, 2024
Exploring rainforest canopies provides a unique perspective on some of the world’s most biodiverse environments. From zip-lining in Costa Rica to canopy walks in Malaysia, these treetop adventures offer an exhilarating way to experience the beauty and complexity of rainforests. This guide will take you through ten unforgettable destinations where you can embark on a thrilling journey above the forest floor.
1. Monteverde Cloud Forest, Costa Rica
In Costa Rica’s Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, you’ll find yourself engulfed in a misty, biodiverse haven. Here, you can embark on a variety of canopy tours, including zip-lining and traversing hanging bridges, to witness the rich array of flora and fauna from a bird’s-eye view. This area is a haven for birdwatchers, with the resplendent quetzal being a highlight. The unique ecosystem here, combining altitude with moisture, creates an environment where biodiversity thrives, offering an unparalleled opportunity to see a wide range of wildlife and exotic plants.
Insider’s Tip: Visit during the early morning hours for the best wildlife viewing opportunities.
When To Travel: The dry season from December to April offers clearer skies and less rain.
How To Get There: Monteverde is about a 3-hour drive from San José, Costa Rica’s capital.
2. Taman Negara, Malaysia
At Taman Negara in Malaysia, one of the world’s oldest rainforests, the canopy walkway stands as the world’s longest suspension bridge. BREAKING NEWS
Thursday is a Weather Authority Alert Day: Damaging wind gusts and strong to severe thunderstorms
2 warnings and 2 advisories in effect for 21 regions in the area, delta air lines posts a narrow q1 profit and says travel demand remains strong despite flight scares.
David Koenig
Associated Press
Delta Air Lines eked out a narrow first-quarter profit and said Wednesday that demand for travel is strong heading into the summer vacation season, with travelers seemingly unfazed by recent incidents in the industry that ranged from a panel blowing off a jetliner in flight to a tire falling off another plane during takeoff.
Delta reported the highest revenue for any first quarter in its history and a $37 million profit. It expects record-breaking revenue in the current quarter as well. The airline said that second-quarter earnings will likely beat Wall Street expectations.

CEO Ed Bastian said Delta's best 11 days ever for ticket sales occurred during the early weeks of 2024.
If travelers are worried about a spate of problem flights and increased scrutiny of plane maker Boeing , “I haven't seen it,” Bastian said in an interview. “I only look at my numbers. Demand is the healthiest I've ever seen.”
A slight majority of Delta's fleet of more than 950 planes are Boeing models, but in recent years it has bought primarily from Airbus , including a January order for 20 big Airbus A350s. As a result, Delta will avoid the dilemma facing rivals United Airlines and American Airlines, which can't get all the Boeing planes they ordered. United is even asking pilots to take unpaid time off in May because of a plane shortage.
“Airbus has been consistent throughout these last five years (at) meeting their delivery targets,” Bastian said.
Delta does not operate any Boeing 737 Max jets, the plane that was grounded worldwide after two fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019, and which suffered the panel blowout on an Alaska Airlines flight this year. However, the Atlanta-based airline has ordered a new, larger version of the Max that still hasn't been approved by regulators. Bastian said Delta will be happy to use the Max 10 when they arrive.
While Delta has largely dodged headaches caused by Boeing, it faces other obstacles in handling this summer's crowds.
Delta is lobbying the federal government to again allow it to operate fewer flights into the New York City area. Otherwise, Delta could lose valuable takeoff and landing slots.
The Federal Aviation Administration granted a similar request last summer and even extended it until late October . The FAA said the relief helped airlines reduce canceled flights at the region's busy three main airports by 40%.
Peter Carter, an executive vice president who oversees government affairs, said Delta and other airlines need another waiver permitting fewer flights this summer because the FAA still doesn't have enough air traffic controllers.
“Absent the waiver, I think we would have, as an industry, some real challenges in New York,” Carter said.
Airlines for America, a trade group of the major U.S. carriers, is also pushing for a waiver from rules on minimum flights in New York. The FAA said it would review the request.
Delta customers will see another change — a new system for boarding planes . Instead of boarding by groups with names such as Diamond Medallions, Delta Premium Select and Sky Priority, passengers will board in groups numbered one through eight. The airline says it will be less confusing.
“When you have a number and you're standing in line, we are all trained to know when it's our turn,” Bastian said.
The change won't alter the pecking order of when each type of customer gets to board. Those with the cheapest tickets, Basic Economy, will still board last.
Delta's first-quarter profit follows a $363 million loss a year ago, when the results were weighed down by spending on a new labor contract with pilots.
“We expect Delta to be one of the few airlines to report a profit in the March quarter,” TD Cowen analyst Helane Becker said even before Delta’s results were released.
Delta said that excluding special items, it earned 45 cents per share. Analysts were expecting 36 cents per share, according to a FactSet survey.
The airline forecast second-quarter earnings of $2.20 to $2.50 per share. The Wall Street consensus was $2.22 per share. The company stood by its forecast of full-year earnings between $6 and $7 per share.
First-quarter revenue rose 8%, to $13.75 billion. Putting Delta's Pennsylvania refinery aside, operating revenue was slightly more than analysts predicted. The airline said second-quarter revenue will be 5% to 7% higher than a year ago.
The airline reported that large corporate customers — who were slower than leisure travelers to resume flying after the coronavirus pandemic — are spending more on travel, including firms in technology and financial services.
Delta has boosted profit by focusing more on premium passengers who pay the highest fares, and raking in money from a credit-card partnership with American Express.
Costs could rise too, however. Jet fuel is higher than it was a year ago, following a run-up in oil prices, and Delta is spending more on aircraft maintenance this year.
Shares of Delta Air Lines Inc. fell 2.3% by the end of regular trading Wednesday.
