Hi Everyone,

' class=

Checking things out, some tours will say "you will see King John's Castle and The Treaty Stone". It doesn't mean you will actually get out and share the same airspace with them. It just means you pass by them.

Be careful of the different between "you will see" and "you will visit"

cosmos tours to ireland

I would recommend getting a map and guidebook and doing it yourself. There are a number of reviews from people who have used public transportation if you are not interested in driving.

My husband and I have discussed using tour companies for some of our travels and decided (because of the amount of ground that tours wish to cover) there was too much time driving and not enough time experiencing each destination.

If you are happy enough to "tick it off the list of sights" but not actually visit the sights then a tour is fine. However if you want to visit and enjoy the sights then self travel is better.

For most TA users, DIY travel is preferable to a coach tour. I have tried both, and long hours sitting on a bus and being herded about did not suite. I never seemed to have enough time at places I was interested in, but had to much at places I wasn't bothered about. So I decided that organising thingsmyself would be better.

The average age of tour passengers allotments to be relatively high. I was in my 50's when I took my most recent tours and most of the passengers were older.

The "cons" regimented time schedules, seat selection and age demographics will impact on bus experience. Many itineraries have 1 night stays, which limit ability to explore/enjoy a particular town. Cost will probably exceed that of a self planned tour

At your age a self drive/public transportation to most areas of Ireland would be preferable and far more enjoyable

cosmos tours to ireland

of course only you can decide but IMO it's too much time on the bus, too little time at some sites, too much at others....too little free time, and not being able to stop at sites that catch one's eye.....not sure it would be enjoyable for young folks in their 40s.....

If you are in your 40's then organise your own trip. Buy a good travel guide such as 'Lonely planet guide to Ireland', read it and work out your own personal itinerary based on the things you would like to see and do, not herded around on a bus full of pensioners to see things you may or may not like.

I booked the Irish Explorer for July with Cosmos..... I am also 40. Did a Contiki tour in my 30's... Yes it is a little rushed but you do see a lot and get a knowledgeable tour guide for the whole trip.

Reviews of this Operator

We have just returned from a cosmos….

We have just returned from a Cosmos tour- Gourmet Tuscany. We stayed in Montecatini Terme and traveled from there to many wonderful places, in towns and the fabulous Tuscan countryside. We visit Vineyards for wine tastings, farms for cooking lessons and lunches and dinners in authentic Italian restaurants. All assisted by a friendly, informative tour director. First class holiday

Excellent in every respect

I recently did a 2-week "best of Italy" tour with this company. Our guide, Daniella, was fantastic, the itinerary was excellent and they catered for my rather difficult dietary requirements really well. Really happy and will certainly book with them again

A wonderrful experience

WE saw so much. The tour director Mladin was very knowledgeable and made the experience so enjoyable. The bus driver Paul was so nice and helpful. A couple of the hotels had no refrigerators to keep the water cold. We had to carry our own luggage to and from the rooms. There should have been porters to help us. Over all we had a great time.

Old South &Florida tour

Great organisation, tour guide(Kris) and driver(Tony) who went extra mile and good group of people from all over world. The hotels were excellent in New Orleans and Nashville and very good in other cities. The itinerary was well thought out with visits to Gracelands and Grande ole Oprey topping the bill. We added 3extra nights in New Orleans (giving us 6nights) which was absolutely fab and would advise anyone doing this tour that they consider some extra nights to see and do as much as you can

The tour director expertise and…

The tour director expertise and personality made the trip all the more pleasant. No stress. The local guides as well added to the beauty of this trip. They were knowledgeable and personable. I also have to mention the travelers (the group of 21). The people were friendly an accommodating. This is my third trip with this tour company and I will continue to travel with this company due to excellent planning and customer service. Thank you
