Adaptive Cruise Control

ACC is configured to help you drive at a set speed or a set time interval to the vehicle in front of you.  It is mainly designed for use on long straight roads in steady traffic, such as on highways and other main roadways. To engage the function, first put it in standby mode by pressing the ACC button on the steering wheel (the speedometer with the car behind it on the left hand side of the steering wheel):

You'll see that same symbol appear on the instrument panel. Next, press the + or - buttons on the steering wheel to set the speed.  The color of the speed changes from white to green to indicate the speed has been set.  To adjust the speed, use those same buttons.  Each press increases the vehicle's speed by 1 mph. To set a time interval to the vehicle ahead, press the long arrow button to increase the time or the short arrow button to decrease the time. If you apply the brakes and want to resume the set speed, use the circular arrow button on the steering wheel. Note:   ACC is not a collision avoidance system!   It does not sense pedestrians, animals, bicycles, or motorcycles.  You, as the driver, are always responsible for braking the vehicle!

2016 Volvo XC60 Review

Keith Buglewicz

Updated December 23, 2019

The 2016 Volvo XC60 luxury SUV offers advanced safety features, fuel-efficient engines, handsome styling that you don’t see everywhere, a luxurious interior, and a reasonable price. If you’re shopping for a premium luxury SUV, what’s not to like?

We wish the Drive-E 4-cylinder engines were available across the board, but unfortunately, they’re only available in front-wheel-drive (FWD) models, handing the all-wheel-drive (AWD) economy crown to the Acura RDX, Audi Q5 and others.

What's New?

Two years ago the XC60 got new skin. Last year, it got two new 4-cylinder engines. This year it loses the old naturally aspirated 3.2-liter 6-cylinder.

Luxurious, fun to drive and distinctly Swedish, the 2016 Volvo XC60 luxury SUV competes in a crowded and tough segment of the market. Up the luxury of the Lexus RX, the agility and power of the BMW X3 and Audi Q5, but priced like the Acura RDX, this Volvo delivers. On top of that, it follows its own lead on styling, and leads the pack when it comes to safety innovations, as one would expect. The new 4-cylinder engines introduced last year offer plenty of power without sacrificing fuel economy, and its all-wheel-drive system provides assurance on slick roads. Then there’s the XC60’s best-in-class 5-star crash-test ratings, making the XC60 a top pick for buyers who have children.

Used 2016 Volvo XC60 Pricing

Used 2016 Volvo XC60 pricing starts at $9,215 for the XC60 T5 Sport Utility 4D, which had a starting MSRP of $38,120 when new. The range-topping 2016 XC60 T6 Drive-E R-Design Platinum Sport Utility 4D starts at $18,205 today, originally priced from $52,295.

The Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price for any individual used vehicle can vary greatly according to mileage, condition, location, and other factors. The prices here reflect what buyers are currently paying for used 2016 Volvo XC60 models in typical condition when purchasing from a dealership. These prices are updated weekly.

Driving the Used 2016 Volvo XC60

Feel the Drive-E 4-cylinder engine in a front-wheel drive 2016 XC60 T5 or XC60 T6 smoothly deliver its excess of power, and you’ll be hooked. The FWD XC60 T5 handily outpaces the 2.5-liter 5-cylinder in the all-wheel-drive XC60 T5, even though it makes the same amount of power. The supercharged AND turbocharged version in the 2016 XC60 T6 is even better, although the torque steer in FWD models isn’t very fun. AWD models of the XC60 T6 get the old turbocharged inline-6 engine, and while its fuel economy suffers compared to newer engines, this 300-horsepower powerplant will make you smile every time you have to pass someone on the freeway. The steering feels good in your hands, and the XC60’s suspension is tuned with just the right amount of bite so that taking a corner briskly doesn’t feel scary, but without any ride harshness.

Interior Comfort

The Volvo XC60 interior benefits from Swedish elegance. The dash includes an available TFT adaptable digital instrument cluster, allowing the driver to select different settings and colors. We love Volvo’s clever ventilation control, which uses a seated human silhouette to indicate where you want airflow to go; tap the head for your upper body, legs for foot-wells, etc. The contrasting colors on the doors and seats are attractive, and the seats themselves are extremely comfortable, and perfect for long road trips. That is, once you’ve got the awkwardly placed lumbar support positioned better; the manual control is hard to operate.

Exterior Styling

Volvo design has been sleek and stylish so long that we’ve nearly forgotten those old boxy shapes. The 2016 Volvo XC60 embodies that aesthetic, with a wonderfully graceful profile and proportions that keep looking good even if the basic shape has been on sale for nearly 10 years. It all hides a functional vehicle, though, with low roof rails to reduce wind noise, and an optional crossbar system to carry bikes, kayaks, skis and more. R-Design models eschew off-road ability for on-pavement performance, with stylish 20-inch wheels. Stick with non-R-Design models if you regularly churn through snow or mud.

Favorite Features

DRIVE-E We’ve driven a couple different Volvos with the new Drive-E engines, and they’re for real. The Volvo XC60 T5 gets 24 mpg in the city, but with enough power to get from a standstill to 60 mph in just under seven seconds. And remember, the T5 is the "slow" one.

CITY SAFE Volvo’s City Safe system acts like an extra pair of eyes and feet. At speeds of 19 mph or less, the system detects stopped or slow-moving objects – cars or pedestrians – and automatically applies the brakes if the driver does not, avoiding or reducing the severity of accidents.

Standard Features

The basic FWD 2015 Volvo XC60 T5 model comes with Volvo’s new Drive-E 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder, an 8-speed Aisin automatic transmission, skidplates on the front and rear, the City Safety system, and a 5-year/50,000-mile warranty that includes complimentary factory scheduled maintenance for five years and five years of roadside assistance. The standard 2016 XC60 also comes with steering-wheel-mounted audio controls, power windows, Bluetooth phone and music interface, 18-inch wheels, a 160-watt, 8-speaker sound system, and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel. AWD models get the old 2.5-liter 5-cylinder (T5) or the turbocharged 3.0-liter 6-cylinder (T6), both with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Factory Options

Safety features top the options list, with a Tech Package bundling things like, Lane Departure Warning, Collision Warning, Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Adaptive Cruise Control and the new Road Sign Information system, which can read important road signs approaching, displaying them on the driver-information screen. In-dash navigation, dual-screen rear-entertainment system, 12-speaker premium sound system, integrated rear child safety seats, panoramic roof with power sunshade, and a walnut steering wheel are available for the XC60. A Climate Package adds heated front and rear seats, windshield and steering wheel, while a Sport Package dresses up the appearance and stiffens the suspension.

Engine & Transmission

The base front-wheel-drive 2016 Volvo XC60 T5 comes with a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Drive-E engine making 240 horsepower; front-wheel-drive XC60 T6 models get a supercharged and turbocharged version that makes a solid 302 horsepower. Both Drive-E engines come connected to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The all-wheel-drive XC60 T5 uses the old-school 2.5-liter inline-5 with 250 horsepower, while the AWD XC60 T6 gets a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline 6-cylinder engine with 300 horsepower. R-Design models give a further boost to the turbo 6-cylinder, raising output to 325 horsepower. AWD XC60 models are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and can run on regular unleaded gasoline. Towing capacity for all models is limited to 3,300 pounds.

KBB Vehicle Review and Rating Methodology

Our Expert Ratings come from hours of both driving and number crunching to make sure that you choose the best car for you. We comprehensively experience and analyze every new SUV, car, truck, or minivan for sale in the U.S. and compare it to its competitors. When all that dust settles, we have our ratings.

We require new ratings every time an all-new vehicle or a new generation of an existing vehicle comes out. Additionally, we reassess those ratings when a new-generation vehicle receives a mid-cycle refresh — basically, sprucing up a car in the middle of its product cycle (typically, around the 2-3 years mark) with a minor facelift, often with updates to features and technology.

Rather than pulling random numbers out of the air or off some meaningless checklist, KBB’s editors rank a vehicle to where it belongs in its class. Before any car earns its KBB rating, it must prove itself to be better (or worse) than the other cars it’s competing against as it tries to get you to spend your money buying or leasing.

Our editors drive and live with a given vehicle. We ask all the right questions about the interior, the exterior, the engine and powertrain, the ride and handling, the features, the comfort, and of course, about the price. Does it serve the purpose for which it was built? (Whether that purpose is commuting efficiently to and from work in the city, keeping your family safe, making you feel like you’ve made it to the top — or that you’re on your way — or making you feel like you’ve finally found just the right partner for your lifestyle.)

We take each vehicle we test through the mundane — parking, lane-changing, backing up, cargo space and loading — as well as the essential — acceleration, braking, handling, interior quiet and comfort, build quality, materials quality, reliability.

IntelliSafe Assist

IntelliSafe Assist

Workshop installation recommended

Excl. AM, AR, PE

Op. No.: 36513

"IntelliSafe Assist" makes it easier and safer to drive where you want the road to take you. "IntelliSafe Assist" consists of "Adaptive Cruise Control" (ACC), "Pilot Assist" and "Distance Alert".

This offer is only aimed at customers without "IntelliSafe Assist".

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)

This is cruise control with an additional function that adapts the speed to a slower vehicle in front. If the vehicle in front slows down, the adaptive cruise control ensures that your vehicle follows the vehicle's speed and if necessary stops it. If the vehicle in front is stationary for less than three seconds, your vehicle will follow the vehicle as soon as it starts again.

The driver can at any time choose to switch off the Adaptive Cruise Control and instead engage the normal cruise control. The system uses a radar unit in the window. When the vehicle is following another vehicle at a speed above 70 km/h, and the driver indicates an imminent overtake using the vehicle's turn signals, the adaptive cruise control assists. The adaptive cruise control allows you to follow another vehicle at speeds from stationary up to 200 km/h.

Pilot Assist generation 2

"Pilot Assist" not only assists the driver to maintain a certain distance and speed in relation to the vehicle ahead but also, via steering assistance, helps keep the vehicle in the middle of the lane. 1 This is made possible by the camera and radar unit in the window reading off the vehicle's position in relation to the visible road markings and the vehicle ahead. "Pilot Assist" can provide steering assistance from stationary and up to 130 km/h.

Distance Alert

"Distance Alert" alerts you if the time interval to the vehicle ahead is too short. The function is active at speeds above 30 km/h and only reacts to vehicles in front of your vehicle driving in the same direction as you.

Application 2

Facts and advantages

Convenient, relaxing and safe because you do not have to constantly adapt your speed to vehicles in front.

Convenient thanks to automatic support, even when overtaking.

Steering assistance helps the driver stay in the lane during monotonous driving situations.

Technical data

Only suitable for vehicles with automatic gearbox.

Vehicles with Twin Engine or Mild Hybrid do not need to order the hydraulic unit since it comes with the vehicle as standard.

Only for countries with radar approval.

Important information about "IntelliSafe Assist" and its functions and restrictions can be found in the instruction manual and the vehicle's owner's manual.

The driver must always be observant of current traffic conditions and be prepared to intervene if necessary. It is always the driver who is responsible for how the vehicle is controlled and that the correct time interval and speed are maintained, even when "IntelliSafe Assist" is used.

The instructions for replacing the hydraulic unit state that the VDDM RELOAD software must be downloaded. This step is not necessary if the unit has been replaced in order to activate IntelliSafe Assist and it should therefore be skipped.

  • If the driver lets go of the steering wheel, steering assistance disengages.
  • Ordered according to separate procedures and downloaded using VIDA.

2016 Volvo XC60 Expert Review

Stefan ogbac.

The 2016 Volvo XC60 is essentially unchanged except for the removal of the standard digital compass on trims that come standard with navigation.

Vehicle Summary

The 2016 Volvo XC60 is a two-row luxury crossover available in front- or all-wheel-drive configurations.

Four engines are available in the 2016 Volvo XC60 and they're paired to either an eight- or six-speed automatic transmission

XC60 T5 Drive-E

  • Engine and Transmission: Turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 - eight-speed automatic
  • Power: 240 hp/258 lb-ft of torque
  • EPA-Rated Fuel Economy: 23/31 mpg city/highway
  • Towing Capacity: 3,500 pounds

XC60 T5 AWD

  • Engine and Transmission: Turbocharged 2.5-liter I-5 - six-speed automatic
  • Power: 250 hp/266 lb-ft
  • EPA-Rated Fuel Economy: 19/26 mpg

XC60 T6 Drive-E

  • Engine and Transmission: Super- and turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4 - eight-speed automatic
  • Power: 302 hp/295 lb-ft
  • EPA-Rated Fuel Economy: 22/29 mpg

XC60 T6 AWD and XC60 T6 AWD R-Design

  • Engine and Transmission: Turbocharged 3.0-liter I-6 - six-speed automatic
  • Power: 300 hp/325 lb-ft (XC60 T6 AWD), 325 hp/354 lb-ft (XC60 T6 AWD R-Design)
  • EPA-Rated Fuel Economy: 17/23 mpg

Cargo capacity in the 2016 XC60 is generous despite its sexy exterior, with up to 30.8 cubic feet behind the second row and 67.4 cubic with the 40/20/40 split-folding rear seats folded. Passenger space for four adults is generous, making the XC60 a decent choice as a family vehicle and for hauling large items.

Standard safety features include dual front, front-side and side curtain airbags for both rows of seating. A standout safety feature that's standard in all Volvos is City Safety, an automatic emergency braking system that uses radar to detect if there's an obstacle in front of the car and applies full braking power at speeds below 30 mph if the driver fails to react. As part of the Technology package and a standard feature in the range topping Platinum trim, the City Safety system is upgraded and is able to detect pedestrians and cyclists, and apply the brakes. Additional safety and driver assistance features included in the Technology package and the Platinum trim include adaptive cruise control with queue assist and distance control, and lane departure warning. Blind spot warning is a standalone option bundled together with front and rear park assist.

Trims, Packages, and What's Standard

Standard features on the base 2016 XC60s include City Safety autonomous emergency braking, Bluetooth connectivity, Sensus infotainment system with a seven-inch screen, 18-inch alloy wheels, dynamic chassis calibration, power front seats with driver's side memory, leatherette upholstery, and LED daytime running lights. The T6 and Premier models add an active digital display, keyless entry and start, auto dimming inner and outer mirrors, navigation, paddle shifters, silver roof rails, leather upholstery, and a laminated panoramic moonroof. Those wanting a sportier driver experience should consider the XC60 T6 AWD R-Design, which comes with 20-inch alloy wheels, and a more aggressive sports chassis calibration.

Range-topping Platinum models add a rearview camera, active HID headlights, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control with queue assist and distance control, and a Harman/Kardon premium audio system. An upgraded version of City Safety featuring pedestrian and cyclist detection with full auto brake also comes standard on the Platinum trim.

What We Think

In a comparison test that also included the Lexus NX 200t, BMW X3, Lincoln MKC, and Land Rover Range Rover Evoque, the front-drive Volvo XC60 T6 placed last as a result of its stiff ride, and heavy, torque-steer-prone steering. However, when it comes to space, the XC60 proved to be one of the roomiest, offering more space than its competitors. We found the infotainment system fussy to use and the screen to be on the small side.

Although it's not as athletic as the Lexus NX 200t or the BMW X3, the XC60 handles decently, while acceleration from the T6 variants are strong. In a 2015 First Test review, we said that the XC60 T6 fares well against the category-leading Lexus RX 350. However, we also noted that the turbo-six-equipped XC60s perform even better than its front-drive counterparts thanks to their standard all-wheel drive systems and

Adding Adaptive Cruise Control

  • Add to quote

Hi Anyone know if Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) can be added at some point after vehicle manufacturing/delivery? The camera/radar is present for Lane Keep Assist and City Safe so I am wondering what else would be needed beyond a software upgrade. I have emailed Volvo USA to see what they say given the dealership was pretty dismissive of my request. The back story is we bought the T8 a week ago as a CPO. 2017 with 17k miles on it. Inscription trim level but for some reason the original owner didn't select the Convenience Package. What was odd was the dealer advertisement clearly stated it had the Convenience Package so I just assumed all was good in terms of Pilot Assist, etc. I know, big mistake on my part. It only dawned on me when we got the car home and I went to program the Homelink and discovered the rear view mirror was missing the compass and Homelink buttons. The dealer was happy to install the Homelink rear view mirror free of charge so that solved that but we are still missing the Pilot Assist features. While it would be great to have all of that installed the piece we really want is the ACC. So, anyone have any experience in this regard or advice? Looking on the web I can see that outside of the USA a Pilot Assist retrofit looks like a possibility. Thanks

cruise control volvo xc60 2016

I'm pretty sure the answer is a no. If it was sold to you with convenience package and you have proof they advertised it with that package, I'd push to get out of the vehicle. Different states have different laws regarding this, but if it was just a few days ago I would think the dealer should be willing to unwind the deal. A week is a long time in the paperwork world, it would have been better if this was all just yesterday. That being said, are you sure the website didn't say "Convenience features"? Volvo hands down the website design with a few variation options and I find the used car portion to be inadequate with listing features and the very top "detailed specifications" drop down says "Convenience features" and that could be mistaken as "convenience package" by a customer who knew to look for that package. As for not being added, it's truly amazing to me how many people don't care about ACC and PA in this segment. I am very much a driver, and still consider these must haves in today's luxury cars. But I've greatly toned down my pitch on them with customers as many view it as an unnecessary expense. To be fair, I found the same resistance with back up cameras when they first started coming out.

Thanks for the response. Volvo USA just came back with a 'no' as well. So I am dead in the water I think. I brought it all to the attention of the dealer the very day after delivery and they admitted fault in the advertisement, hence getting the Homelink/compass rear view mirror added for free. I had saved both their website ad and the Edmunds page so had good proof. We could have returned the car (three day limit) but my wife was already completely in love with it. She actually doesn't care about PA and ACC but I have a Model S and I absolutely love Autopilot. It is a game changer for road trips in my opinion. I was really hoping it was possible to retro fit....

Technically it would be possible as there is Pilot Assist accessory listed. And for T8 all hardware could be on the car already and it could be just software update to get PA. The dealer should install it for you if it is advertised as including PA. Sent from my Z978 using Tapatalk

If they don't install it, maybe return this one and look for another T8 CPO national wide. Should be able to find some. Sent from my Z978 using Tapatalk

I think (not 100% sure, but I am 100% guessing) the pilot assist accessory is to upgrade the '16s that had a 25 mph speed limit up to the highway speed version. These cars still had full ACC so it was just a software upgrade to increase the top speed of pilot assist.

The upgrade from 25mph limit to Pilot Assist 2 with 80mph limit is only $200 upgrade, and many people get it for free. The "Intellisafe Assist" accessory (it is an installation, not upgrade) is this one (for 2016, 2017): https://accessories.volvocars.com/en-us/XC90(16-)/Accessories/Document/VCC-515663/2017/all/all/all https://accessories.volvocars.com/en-us/XC90(16-)/Accessories/Document/VCC-515670/2016/all/all/all For T8, it is just software. No hydro unit is needed. Price seems to be around $1k or so. IntelliSafe Assist Op. No.: 36513 "IntelliSafe Assist" makes it easier and safer to drive where you want. The function is active at speeds above 30 km/h and only reacts to vehicles in front of your vehicle, driving in the same direction as you. Application2 Part. No. Description 31650423 17-, AUT, Excl. I think you are right as found this after looking a little harder. https://forums.swedespeed.com/showt...-to-have-adaptive-cruise-control-retro-fitted His is a '16.

But is this available in the US?

Yeh, the link above is from volvo US website.

cruise control volvo xc60 2016

I checked it in my 2016 and it didn't have the hydro pump, so it was expensive, but it can certainly be done as you can see in the link above.

I don't think so. The US site has a link that looks like: https://usparts.volvocars.com/Volvo_2017_XC90-20l-4-cylinder-Turbo.html Yet the link from FusionRedXC60 looks like: https://accessories.volvocars.com/en-us/XC90(16-)/Accessories/Document/VCC-515663/2017/all/all/all Given the dealer here in CO said no and I got the below from Volvo USA this morning I think it isn't possible. Thank you for contacting Volvo! The adaptive cruise control cannot be added once the vehicle has been manufactured, we apologize for any inconvenience that may have been caused in this matter. I have attached a 30% mail in rebate coupon which is valid for six months. The rebate coupon can be used towards any genuine Volvo parts or accessories and has a maximum rebate of $200.00! If you have any additional questions feel free to contact us. Med vänliga hälsningar! Yours Sincerely, Paris Volvo Customer Care Perhaps I need to drive down to the dealership and show them the website that FusionRedXC60 linked me to.

Well, I have an update. Went down to the dealer who is close to me on the way home from work. Asked the service desk to see if #31650470 was available. She came back 5min later saying 'yep'. $1620.03. Only a software update for the T8 since the hydraulic pump is installed already (gave her my VIN as well). None of the techs were still there to verify but I am booked in for this Sat @9am so will update after that to see if it will actually happen. Promising progress so call me 8/10 in terms of this actually working.

Update. Software part #31650470 installed and working. Now have Adaptive Cruise Control and Pilot Assist. Talked to the tech who did the work and he had to try four times before the car/system took the software update. But it all works. $1799 lighter in the pocket but glad to have it installed.

Congrats! Hope you enjoy the fun T8. PA is great help on long trips if you use it with cautions. The dealer doesn't compensate anything as the ad said it has PA/ACC? You can ask Volvo customer support for a coupon of up to $200 off future accessory purchase.

Yeah, using it on the way home from the dealer was fun if not a little different to what I was expecting. Given I normally drive a Tesla with Autopilot I am completely at ease with that system so PA was very different I have to say. I ended up using a different dealer to do the PA/ACC install since they are closer, and as it turns out, not as lazy. The dealer we bought the car off said it wasn't even possible. The same answer I got from the Volvo USA support rep via email. I plan on emailing Volvo USA to give them some feedback. I would imagine >50% of the folks who got the 'no' answer from Volvo USA would have stopped there which means Volvo USA are missing out on extremely high margin sales opportunities. In terms of 'comp' from the dealer we bought it from...they installed the Homelink/Compass rear view mirror for no charge so I am good with that. We are almost three weeks in now and still have over half a tank of gas and are sitting at 45.2 mpg. Electrician is coming back next week to put 240v NEMA 6-20 outlet on the ceiling above the car so we can juice it up faster.

cruise control volvo xc60 2016

Hi guys, I’ve just read this topic and I need to add congrats to vpblur for his perseverance. I’m in a similar situation, I’m a new ower of a xc60 t6 plugin inscription, manufactured in dec2020, it was a showroom car. I’ve noticed too late that this car doesn’t have adaptive cruise control, only a simple cruise control, even if there are buttons on the steering wheel for adjusting distance between the car and another car in front (which are useless in my case). From your experience, is there a chance to upgrade my car with this intellisafe assist accessory? I’ve already asked a volvo dealer about adding ACC, whitout mention of this intellisafe assist (didn’t know before read the topic). Overall I’m very disappointed about this ‘volvo experience’ due to this lack of basic feature for a premium car. Adaptive cruise control I have on my skoda octavia since 2014, 6 year later, a car which it costs double than a skoda octavia, doesn’t have a basic feature.

I asked 2 Volvo dealers, and they confirmed my worries that I can’t have a retrofit for ACC or Pilot assist or intellisafe assit package. Volvo dealer conclusion was my car software is not compatible with this software upgrade. It confuses me because my logic thinking is if you can made a car in the factory with this ACC software, why can you rewrite the software after the car is built. My car is a Volvo xc60 T6 plug in, manufactured in middle of 2020. I’m hopping that maybe after few years this option can be available to my car model.

Anyhow this is the accessory for 2020 T8 in US. You can ask the dealer to search for the parts number in their system. Hydro unit is not needed for a phev so the cost will be much lower, maybe $1500 and totally worthy it. But it is true that I can't find this accessory for MY2021 T8. Not sure why Volvo don't offer it. The car should be almost same as MY2020. https://accessories.volvocars.com/en-us/XC60(18-)/Accessories/Document/VCC-516550/2020/T8%20(Twin%20Engine)/Automatic Sent from my moto g power (XT2041DL) using Tapatalk

IntelliSafe Assist - S60 2019 - Volvo Cars Accessories

Yes, its possible. First you have to buy from D5T5 company obd cable to connect your laptop with the car. Then you have to install Vdash (its free) and then send me a message and I'll explain rest of the process. Its very easy.

This is what you have to buy, and later you can always use it for diagnostic. Its very useful.

vpblur said: Hi Speed Test Anyone know if Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) can be added at some point after vehicle manufacturing/delivery? Thanks Click to expand...

Not yet. Vida won’t connect to my car. Another forum member has the same issue since the 2.5 google update.

10 Key Safety Features To Explore As A New Volvo Owner

W hen it comes to safety, Volvo is one of the brands that first comes to mind, and the reasons for this are not far-fetched. The Swedish automaker invented some of the most important car safety features like the three-point safety belts , built-in booster cushion, Side Impact Protection System, inflatable curtain, and lots more. Volvo is not only interested in building safe cars, but also in making its customers imbibe a culture of safety. This is why, after collecting real-world data for over 40 years, Volvo launched the E.V.A. Initiative in 2019. This initiative makes Volvo’s decades of research work on what happens during a collision—regardless of gender, size, or age, publicly available.

Volvo now has a safety suite called IntelliSafe, and it features a bunch of forward-thinking driver assistance systems like Adaptive Cruise Control, Driver Alert Control, Blind Spot Information System, and Pedestrian Airbag. With these standard and optional safety features , new drivers can confidently get behind the wheel of a Volvo car or SUV.

The safety features and data cited in this list were sourced from Volvo, IIHS, and NHTSA.

Driver Understanding System

Applicable model: ex90.

You can be distracted, tired, or feel drowsy, and even if you don’t want to admit it, you might sometimes need some help. This is why Volvo is introducing the Driver Understanding System, which will be featured for the first time in the upcoming all-electric EX90 .

While most driver assistance technologies focus more on understanding what is going on around the vehicle, the Driver Understanding System will try to understand the state of the driver . For instance, two interior cameras in the EX90 are mounted in such a way that they observe the eye-gaze patterns of the driver. The system measures how long you keep your eyes on the road, and if it’s too little, it can be a sign of distraction. In that case, the system will send warning signals to draw your attention back to the road. If you don’t respond after repeated warnings, the vehicle will safely stop by the side of the road and send warnings to other drivers via the hazard lights.

Run-Off Road Protection

Applicable models: 2014 xc90.

The Run-off Road Protection or Run-Off Road Mitigation technology was introduced in Volvo vehicles in 2014 to prevent run-off road accidents, which accounts for a significant rate of single-vehicle crashes in the U.S. , according to a report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

You can think of Run-off Road Protection as a more active version of the lane-keeping assist. It helps to keep occupants firmly in their sitting position by tightening the seat belts. This will prevent spine injuries if your car runs off the road unexpectedly or perhaps due to loss of concentration while driving , fatigue, or poor weather conditions. The 2014 XC90 was the first Volvo to feature this safety technology.

Connected Safety

Applicable models: 2016-present xc90, 2017-2021 s90, v90 and v90 cross country.

Volvo introduced Connected Safety in 2016 to do two things: alert a driver about slippery road conditions or whether the hazard lights of another vehicle ahead are on. When activated, it connects with another Volvo car further ahead on the same road via the internet and sends out warnings, which gives the driver enough time to slow down or change route.

The Connected Safety technology is available on Volvos like the 2016-present XC90, 2017-2021 S90, V90 and V90 Cross Country, and 2018-2021 XC60, and XC60 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid. However, the technology detects slippery surfaces or activates hazard warning flashers on only selected roads.

City Safety

Applicable models: 2014-present xc90, s90, and v90 cross country.

City Safety is an autonomous emergency braking technology that helps to avoid or reduce the risk and effect of rear-end collisions at speeds up to 31 mph. If this technology determines that a collision is inevitable, it activates your car’s brakes and turns off the throttle. When this happens, the brake lights flash to let drivers behind know about emergency braking .

The first generation City Safety was introduced in 2008 in the Volvo XC60. Volvo later launched the City Safety Generation II, which reduces the impact of traffic accidents at speeds up to 31 mph. All Volvo vehicles from 2014 upwards come with City Safety Generation II.

Applicable Models: XC90, EX90

Volvo is always setting safety and technology standards and this time, it teamed up with Luminar Technologies to equip its next-generation cars with Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) technology starting with the EX90 and XC90 luxury SUVs. This makes Volvo one of the few automakers that have made LiDAR a standard feature.

With LiDAR, Volvo aims to improve the accuracy of its self-driving vehicles . LiDAR works just like radar, it however uses a pulsed laser rather than radio waves to detect nearby vehicles and other objects.

Pilot Assist

Applicable models: 2016-present, s90, v90, v90 cross country, xc60, xc90, xc40, ex90, and ex30.

Sometimes driving can be a chore and you just feel like relaxing a bit. That’s where Volvo’s enhanced driver assistance Pilot Assist comes in. It helps you control the steering and maintain a safe, preset distance between the vehicle ahead of you.

However, for Pilot Assist to work, you have to enable the function via the steering wheel button. You must also be wearing your seatbelt keep your hands on the steering wheel, and ensure that the driver’s door is shut. In addition, the lane’s edge markings must be clear; otherwise the system may not be able to detect them. Lastly, speed shouldn’t go above 87 mph. The Pilot Assist is available in 2016 and newer model years of the EX90, EX30, S90, V90, V90 Cross Country, XC60, XC90, and XC40.

Whiplash Protection System

Applicable models: 2010 volvo xc60.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), neck sprains and strains account for one-third of insurance claims for car accidents . This is why Volvo introduced the Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS).

A study by the Swedish automaker’s Accident Research Commission shows that WHIPS helps to reduce the impact of short-term injuries by 33 percent, and long-term injuries (above one year) by 54 percent. Apart from the Volvo XC60, vehicles like the Opel Vauxhall Astra, Mazda CX-5, and Volkswagen Golf feature WHIPS.

Oncoming Mitigation With Braking

Applicable models: 2019 volvo v60.

Unlike Forward Collision Warning Systems which help you to keep an eye on the vehicle in front of you, Volvo’s Oncoming Mitigation with Braking helps to prevent or reduce the severity of head-on collisions. This technology doesn’t recognize pedestrians, cyclists, and big animals—only vehicles with four wheels.

For the Oncoming Mitigation with Braking technology to work, Volvo says your car must be traveling at above 3 mph in a straight lane with clear side lane markings. And the oncoming has to be in the same lane as yours with its headlights switched on.

Door Opening Alert

Applicable models: 2023 ex30.

Volvo has no plans of lowering its safety standards, even for the 2023 EX30, which is its smallest SUV . The EX30 will feature Volvo’s Door Opening Alert system, which warns you via audio and visual cues if you are about to open the doors in front of another road user.

The warnings are on two levels. The first one comes from the center display and the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), which displays a steady light for some seconds. When the cyclist is about to collide with the door, another warning sound is triggered and the BLIS light will flash. The Door Opening Alert system will come in handy on busy city roads, where opening a car door blocks the path of a cyclist. It will help to prevent the injuries and sometimes fatal outcomes of door-opening accidents.

Cross-Traffic Alert With Auto-Brake

Applicable models: xc40, xc60, xc90, s90.

Sometimes, backing out of a parking space is a chore because of poor rear visibility. Thanks to Volvo’s Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) with Auto-brake function, you don’t have to worry about this problem in your XC40, XC60, XC90, or S90.

The CTA supplements the BLIS by helping you to detect traffic crossing behind your car. The Auto-brake function helps you to stop the Volvo before a collision with an unobserved vehicle occurs. The CTA with Auto-brake function is only triggered if the vehicle rolls backward or if you select reverse gear.

Cruise control

The cruise control (CC 1 ) helps the driver maintain an even speed, which can result in more relaxed driving on motorways and long, straight roads in regular traffic flows.

Using engine braking instead of the foot brake

With Cruise Control, speed is regulated with less frequent application of the foot brake. On a downhill gradient, it may sometimes be desirable to start moving a little faster and instead limit the acceleration by engine braking. In this case the driver can temporarily disable foot brake application by Cruise Control.

To do so, proceed as follows: Depress the accelerator pedal about halfway down and release. Cruise Control will disengage its automatic foot braking and then uses engine braking only.

  • The function is supplementary driver support intended to facilitate driving and make it safer – it cannot handle all situations in all traffic, weather and road conditions.
  • The driver is advised to read all sections in the Owner's Manual that relate to this function to learn about factors such as its limitations and what the driver should be aware of before using the system.
  • Driver support functions are not a substitute for the driver's attention and judgement. The driver is always responsible for ensuring the car is driven in a safe manner, at the appropriate speed, with an appropriate distance to other vehicles, and in accordance with current traffic rules and regulations.

Vehicle information, went online and found the camaro that i was interested in.

Went online and found the Camaro that I was interested in , called the dealership asked if it was still available. they said it was still available. I then talked to the salesman Abe Ramzy great guy, help out getting financing online . The dealership was 280 miles away from home . Told them that I would drive over the next day to test drive the Camaro. No problem, it was everything they said it was. The dealership and its Sales Manager and Salesman were the best I have ever dealt within buying a car. If ever I need another vehicle, i will try them again. Gary H. Carson City, Nv

Great Car! We love it. 130k miles and counting.

Love our gently used 2015 Volvo XC60 T6 Turbo wagon. 130k miles on it and we have only had to replace the alternator and battery. Does not burn oil, does not leak oil. Has been a very reliable car. If you do the maintenance and change the oil every 5 thousand miles it will last a long time. Regular oil changes are very important as with any car. Most people don’t do this. The 6 cylinder is one the best engines they have made. Timing chain will last a long time as long as you put new clean oil in the engine every 5k miles. No transmission problems and no differential problems for us. No one likes to spend $2,000 for the 90k service but it’s a big one. Important preventative maintenance will take this car to 200,000 miles. Read the owners manual and follow the service schedule.

Great Buying Experience from 1900 Miles Away

Jeff Gipson & his team were a tremendous help in our purchase of a used car for our daughter at CSU. Jeff eased the challenge of buying a car cross country with all his experience in working with parents & students. He was proactive & responsive, identifying a fantastic & safe used car of high quality while staying within our budget, all over the July 4th weekend. The team's coordination of inspecting & servicing the car, processing paperwork, & final delivery of the car minimized the stress of the buying process. We had peace of mind knowing that such an important decision all the way from Connecticut was handled by a knowledgeable, trustworthy team. We highly recommend Jeff Gipson to any student or parent looking for a car.

Dealership was superior in customer service, greeted us to pick up the car & had it full of gas & ready to help with any questions or concerns.

Love my Volvo SUV

This is my second XC60. I totaled my first in a rear end accident. The car I hit looked terrible. My airbag deployed, but my car actually looked fine and drove fin, but the cost of repair was too high with the airbag. I ended up finding this model with added a few nice extra safety features to the 2013 I had. The car is comfortable with plenty of luggage space for a mid size SUV. The turbo 6 really makes the car scoot, and the AWD system is hardy I've take it for mild off road driving (well, my last 2103 I did at least) and it handles well.

It’s probably not common to be writing a positive review when a purchase was not completed, but here it is. With a little background information first. I am battling an incurable cancer, although the doctors believe it is manageable. But to arrive at my affordability numbers I obviously needed to consider future medical costs, cost of living and even life expectancy. Once I decided what price would work for me, the vehicle (2021 Sonata) I hoped it would be reasonable to Fitzway. Unfortunately, they were unwilling or unable to lower the sticker price listed. But, here is the positive. Marie Tsillas was outstanding with her efforts in the whole process. She answered every question, offered other vehicles all in an extremely quick manner, all via the internet. Fitzway can be proud of her and I would highly recommend contacting her for a purchase. The only reason I did not give Fitzway a 5 star rating is because we were not able to complete the purchase as close as I believe the numbers were. Otherwise, Fitzway and Marie are worthy of 5 stars.

Great experience buying a car from PJ's

John Cappello, my salesman at PJ's did a fantastic job answering my (many) questions, and much help getting me a 69 Corvette. It was shipped up to Canada and there were no surprises. A great experience. I hope to deal with John and PJ's again and have referred a couple of friends to them as well. Kevin Tait

The passenger compartment of the XC60 remained stable in the frontal offset test.  Dummy readings indicated good protection for all critical body areas of the passenger and of the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger.  Volvo showed that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and to those sat in different positions.  In the full-width rigid-barrier test, protection of both dummies was good except for the chest of the rear passenger, protection of which was rated as marginal.  In both the side barrier test and the more severe side pole impact, protection of critical body areas was good and the XC60 scored maximum points.  Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision.  A geometric assessment of the rear seats also indicated good whiplash protection.  The standard-fit autonomous emergency braking system scored maximum points in tests of its functionality at the low-speeds typical of city driving, with collisions avoided at all test speeds.

In the frontal offset test, protection of both the 6 year and 10 year dummies was good or adequate.  In the side barrier test, protection was good for all critical parts of the body.  The front passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward-facing child restraint to be used in that seating position.  Clear information is provided to the driver regarding the status of the airbag and the system was rewarded.  All of the restraint types for which the XC60 is designed could be properly installed and accommodated.

VRU Impact Protection

Head Impact 17.3 Pts

Pelvis Impact 2.6 Pts

Leg Impact 6.0 Pts

The bonnet provided predominantly good or adequate protection to the head of a struck pedestrian with some poor results recorded only at the base of the windscreen and on the stiff windscreen pillars.  The bumper scored maximum points for its protection of pedestrians' legs, with good results at all test points.  Protection of the pelvis was mixed.  The autonomous emergency braking system scored maximum points in tests of its pedestrian detection, with good results in all test scenarios and at all speeds.

A seatbelt reminder is standard equipment for the front and rear seats.  The speed assistance system uses a camera to recognise the local speed limits and to inform the driver, who can then choose to set the limiter appropriately.  Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keeping Aid is also standard and alerts the driver when the car is drifting out of lane and helps to steer away from the lane edge.  The autonomous emergency braking system scored maximum points when tested at highway speeds, with collisions avoided at all test speeds and in all scenarios.
