With so much of Australia to see, don’t waste time setting up and packing up camp – make it easy with a reliable and easy-pitch Safari 260 Tent from Darche.

The Safari 260 has just one internal alloy trigger lock pole for simplicity, and the compact design makes it easy to transport. This tent is made from Darche’s high quality, proofed, 260gsm polycotton ripstop canvas which will shelter you from the harsh Australian landscape.

It also has a 2000mm waterhead rating and sealed seams to provide protection against rainy weather, and a heavy duty 320gsm PVC bucket floor to guard against the ground up. When the weather is warm, you can just open up one of the three water shedding zip up gusset windows. Or if you’re dealing with drizzly conditions, the three gusset vents allow you to still ventilate.

If you’d like some extra shade and wind protection, you can purchase zip on awnings walls separately. Or if you prefer a little more room inside the tent, you can get an optional alternative internal trigger lock A-frame. A great size for the travelling couple, or small group – the Safari 260 Tent from Darche is a fast and easy pitch tent for all your touring adventures.

Q&a's (23), snow 1 answer.

Would this be suitable for snow use? Doesn't seem like it'll retain snow in the rear section like thr 350. If not, what other tent would you recommend?

G'day Tom, I reckon this would be a great choice - snow load is generally the main concern and you would have too many issue with the safari 260 at all. The main considerations would be making sure the snow isnt too deep so that you have access to the ground to get your pegs it, and make sure all the guy ropes are out so the tent is tensioned well which will shed the snow fall easily. If you get a fair bit of snow, you'd probably just want to check the levels arent high enough to have snow sitting against the canvas full time. Other than that I think it's one of the best, most underated choices for a tent that gives you decent room and head height, but sets up quick, and packs away nice and flat.

Hi, was just wondering how far out does the awning extend and what width it covers with the walls, cheers.

G'day Cameron, Thanks for your patience whilst we tracked this info down! The awning attachment that comes with the Darche Safari 260 is 2.5m wide at the front of the awning, and is 2.8m long.

Carry bag waterproof? 1 answer

Hello does this item come in a waterproof carry bag? Wanting to transport it on the roof racks but don't want a drenched tent to set up. Thank you

G'day Gerald, The bag is made from material that has a waterproof coating, but it hasn't been tested or claims to be fully waterproof.  I'd say to be on the safe side I'd wrap it up with a tarp just incase.  I think you'd be ok if the rain is light, but anything else I'd go for the tarp.

Leaking tent 1 answer

Just recently our tent has started leaking from around roof frame how can we stop this ? Do we need to treat the seams around the roof ? If so what should we use ? We have been camping in FNQ and there have been some heavy showers but nothing extreme

G'day Russell, Theres a few things that immediately come to mind - canvas tents/swags do need to be seasoned well before camping in rainy weather, even if seam sealed.  If your tent wasnt able to be seasoned, it may be that any leaks will sort themselves out now the tent has been properly wet. Secondly, is there any possibility it could be condensation?  Generally the roof is the first area to get covered in water if condensation is the issue, and with any tent leaking issues, its generally the first thing that needs to be eliminated. If neither of the above are applicable, and your tent is still within its warranty period, jump onto our  Warranty Page and fill out a claim for the team to look at. If its out of warranty, & just need a revamp, check out  Gear Aid's Seam Sealer

Is it recommended to get a ground sheet underneath this, what size would be needed to cover up until the ned of the awning and do you stock one with the right dimensions? Also, any any chance of a video showing set up, pack down and a features by Snowy's? Thanks

G'day Jess, Groundsheets seem to be a personal preference type thing.  I've never personally used one with standard camping tents, as I've not seen the need, but other people swear by them. They can help to protect your tent floor if camping on rough ground with lots of rocks, and low level debris, and make it easier to clean the bottom of your tent floor for pack up. If you wanted a ground sheet, the tent itself is 2.6m square, with the awning adding around and extra 2-2.5m of length. A groundsheet close to the 2.6m x 4.5-5m mark would be a good size.  There isn't a specific one made, however, you can look at the Ultramesh Tarps , or the  C-Gear Mats . If you can't find one with those dimensions, you could consider getting 2 - one to go under the tent, and one for the awning space.  This may be worth considering if you plan to get the awning walls, as the undercover area would be much wider than the tent itself.

How can the awning be configured (with the supplied poles etc) to effectively drain rain water?

G'day Greg,

Water pooling on awnings is just part and parcel of tent camping, regardless of the model, unless your awning is specifically designed with a peak. The only way to really prevent this from happening on the Safari tent is to either have the front edge of the awning lowered below the height of the awning/tent connection, or to pick up a third pole and utilise the extra central eyelet to try and create a peak. Hope that gives you some ideas!

How long does this tent take to set up? Does it take any longer with the A frame?

G'day Greg, Couldnt tell you the exact time, as I havent done it myself for a fair while, but not long. You just have to peg out to 4 corners, stick the pole in the middle and peg out all the guy ropes. I'm thinking 5-10 minutes, and with the a-frame it's probably an extra 5 mins cause it can be abit fiddly to get that up.

Can this fit a 180 or 270 awning? 1 answer

Can this connect to a 180 or 270 awning? If not can you advise a tent set up that will fit on the outer or back wall rather than the middle which you have an option for?

No the Safari tent range isn't compatible to be connected to the Eclipse awning. Unfortunately, Darche do not have any compatible tent / awning crossovers like Oztent have with their Foxwing and RV series. The only option is the tents you mentioned, that connect in the centre.

Are they the standard Single Easy Fold stretchers that you have? If so you'll have plenty of room width-wise, but it'll be a close fit length-wise. The Single Jumbo stretchers are too big, unfortunately!

Hi would a Double Self-Inflating Mattress fit or would I need to purchase a A frame kit ?

The max space you'll have for a mattress is 125 x 250 cm, so if you're mattress is going to be larger than this we recommend the A-Frame. Hope that helps!

Can the window cover be used as an awning with poles or pegged out? Thanks

There are eyelets on each of the window flaps, so in theory, they can be pegged out like an awning. Something to consider though, is due to the taper of the walls and the size of the flaps themselves, you'll probably only get them to extend a foot out from the base of the tent. Hope that makes sense.

Would two stretchers fit with the A-Frame set up or would the tapered side cause issues. If so is there a two person canvas tent you can recommend for a two stretcher set up?

Yes, you can fit two single stretchers in the Safari 260 when using the A-frame Kit.

The floor of the Safari is sewn to the main body of the tent, therefore is not removable.

The Safari 260 is fully seam-sealed, so you shouldn't need to weather/season it before use.

Are the insect screens midgee proof?

Darche doesn't specify whether or not their mesh insect screens are midge proof, however, it does feel/look fairly fine to me.

Are the packed dimensions generous? ie if packed away tightly could the dimensions be less than 90x90x15?

The 90 x 90cm is pretty accurate due to the internal frame at the top, so while you might be able to shave a cm or two off in the height direction, we'd say you'll need to account for 90cm in the width and length directions.

Can the square frame in the roof be removed and disassembled to allow for a smaller packed dimension?

Thanks for your enquiry. The square frame in the roof cannot be removed from within the tent, I'm sorry to say. The poles are sewn into the canvas and are integral to hold up the structure.

Can a stretcher fit 1 answer

What size stretcher would fit once up? Are they designed for only sleeping bags? Would say a stretcher of length 200cm and say width 90 fit? I would purchase the A frame to eliminate the centre pole.

It's a little hard to say really. It would depend a bit on the height of your stretcher as the tent tapers in the higher it goes. To be safe a mattress on the ground would work fine but a stretcher might be a little touch and go. 

Would this be considered a 3 or 4 season tent? 1 answer

I’m seeking a easy tent that can withstand rain for say a week outdoors. Will this eventually saturate and let water in?

The Safari 260 tent from Darche a durable 3 season tent that is as waterproof as it gets, but everything has its limitations. If you use any tent for a week in continuous rain, then there is a small chance you might have a leak - but it is unlikely.

We offer free shipping the contiguous US for order over $199!  This obviously excludes super heavy and freight items. Alaska and Hawaii are sometimes difficult, so you most likely will receive a call from us, as we may incur extra shipping fees.

All Items will be shipped as the customer chooses at checkout, and a tracking number will be provided. If there are special delivery instructions, please leave them in the notes.

All items will be properly padded and packed to minimize the risk of damage in transit. However, if a product does arrive damaged, it is up to the buyer to contact the shipper and file a claim, as all products are insured for the amount of purchase.

Any delivery date or time specified by us is a guideline or estimate only and Charles Parsons Group will not be held liable for any loss or damage suffered as a result of any delay in delivery. You agree that you will still accept delivery of the products even if they are delivered on a different date and time. However, if a Product is not delivered within a reasonable time after the estimated date, please contact us.

All orders will be delivered within usual business hours and cannot be delivered to a P.O. box address.

Please ensure your delivery address is accurate, as we do not accept any liability for non-delivery or delayed parcels due to incorrect details and you may incur a re-delivery fee.

1.1 Delivery within The United States of America

Except for pre-orders, we aim to deliver orders within The USA between 2 to 7 business days from receipt of order, subject to stock availability.

Depending on where you live, we use either UPS, USPS, FedEx or an alternative carrier(s).

1.3 Other international deliveries

Darche USA is happy to offer a 30-day refund from the purchase date. Any returned product must be in new condition, in original packaging, for full refund. If a product is defective, we will defer to the manufacturer's warranty, and reach out to them on behalf of our customers. The warranty of any product purchased can be found in the product owner's manual or online.

• Buyer must supply the original sales receipt. 
• All returned products must be in new condition, and in original packaging
• It is the buyer's responsibility to either bring or ship the product back to us at their cost before a refund is issued.
• We do not offer refunds on Gift cards.
• There are no refunds on sale items.

WARRANTY: For products that are being returned due to a warranty claim, Darche will in some cases, replace the product out of local dealer stock, or ship directly to the consumer, at our discretion. Please refer to your owner's card with your product for specifics on your warranty.

ORDER CANCELLATIONS

You are free to cancel your order at any time and for any reason before it is dispatched. We do not take payment until the moment of dispatch and so refunds are not normally necessary when an order is cancelled. To cancel your order we need explicit instructions from the person who placed the order either by Email or by phone.

An order may not be cancelled after it has been dispatched or while it is in transit, but must be treated as a return. In this eventuality a refund will be provided when the goods are returned to us.

ORDER RETURNS

The vast majority of returns fall into one of four categories, each of which must be treated in a slightly different manner:

• Unwanted or otherwise unsuitable goods
• Damaged or defective goods
• Broken goods under warranty
• Incorrect goods dispatched

Unwanted or unsuitable goods:

You are free to return unwanted goods in new & unused condition for 30 days after delivery. You will be entitled to your choice of an exchange or a full refund to the original payment card. The customer must meet the cost of returns postage for unwanted goods. We cannot accept responsibility for goods in returns transit, and so we recommend that you use registered post or an otherwise insured method.

Damaged or defective goods:

You are free to return defective goods in new & unused condition for 30 days after delivery. You will be entitled to your choice of an exchange or a full refund to the original payment card. Trek Overland will meet the cost of returns postage for defective goods. We can arrange for a courier pickup of the goods or we can refund your postage expenses (within reasonable limits) upon return delivery. Please note that the warranty given by both Trek Overland and the manufacturers of our products will only cover parts. Labour charges and other costs are not covered.

Broken goods under warranty:

You are free to return broken goods under a warranty claim for the full warranty period after delivery. Your goods may be repaired or replaced, or you may be offered a refund depending on the decision of the manufacturer. We will send the goods to the manufacturer for assessment but the final decision lies with the manufacturer and you may have to wait for their tests to be completed. The customer must meet the cost of returns postage for warranty claims. We cannot accept responsibility for goods in returns transit, and so we recommend that you use registered post or an otherwise insured method. Please note that the warranty given by both Trek Overland and the manufacturers of our products will only cover parts. Labour charges and other costs are not covered.

Incorrect goods dispatched:

Occasionally the wrong item is sent to a customer. You are free to return these goods in new & unused condition for 30 days after delivery. You will be entitled to your choice of an exchange for the correct item or a full refund. If you have been mischarged, we will correct the discrepancy. Trek Overland will meet the cost of returns postage for defective goods. We can arrange for a courier pickup of the goods or we can refund your postage expenses (within reasonable limits) upon return delivery.

Exchanges will only be made where the same item is available in stock at the same price as the original. Items bought at special offer prices cannot be subsequently exchanged for identical items on sale at higher prices. If an item is not available a full refund may be the only option.

All goods must be returned in new & unused condition unless a warranty claim is being made. We reserve the right to refuse returned goods if necessary. Reasons may include:

Where a full refund is the suitable course of action we have a statutory obligation to refund payment to the card used to pay originally within 30 days of the return of the goods. However we do not believe it is right to hold your money for longer than necessary and so a refund will be provided as soon as possible.

IMPORTANT: Refunds are processed by credit & debit card companies less quickly than sales. A refund may take up to 10 days to appear on your statement after it has been authorised.

EXCHANGES PROCEDURE

If you are returning goods for an exchange we would normally have to wait for the goods to arrive with us and inspect them before we can send out the replacement. However we recognise that sometimes and exchange must be made quickly and so we can send out a replacement immediately. We must take payment for the replacement but as soon as the return arrives we will give you a refund on that cost.

• Goods have been used
• Goods are soiled
• Goods have an odour i.e. smoke
• Goods are damaged as a result of misuse or ill-treatment

REFUND POLICY

We want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase. If for any reason, you are not satisfied, you may request a refund. Our refund policy is designed to make the process as easy as possible for you.

Refunds can be initiated immediately upon a succesful request, but due to payment providers, it may take a few days for the money to arrive back into your bank account, please be patient and if you have any issues please don't hesitate to contact us. We will do our best to process your refund as quickly as possible.

If you’re after an old school canvas tent with plenty of head room and an uncomplicated setup, the Safari 260 is perfect for your next outdoor adventure.

• Description

This compact touring tent packs up flat so you’ll have plenty of space for all your gear when you hit the road. Set up is an absolute breeze, you simply peg it out and then use the single internal trigger-lock pole to lift the ceiling frame in the pitch of the tent.   

Built for ease and comfort, this roomy tent has sleeping quarters for 2-4 people. There is a large zippered front entry and two large zippered windows on either side that can be gusseted in rainy weather. With low level gusseted air vents on three sides you’ll get plenty of constant air flow through your sleeping area, plus the rear window storm flap includes eyelets and can be converted to an awning for great cross-ventilation. The Safari is designed to keep you cool on those hot summer nights, while the super-fine mesh on all doors and windows will keep the mozzies away.

The Safari also includes a large zip-on awning with twist-lock awning poles, giving you plenty of shade or added shelter in all weather conditions (2.5 x 2.8m). Add the Safari awning wall kit (sold separately) to extend your shade and shelter.

The Safari is made from tough 260gsm ripstop polycotton canvas and has an impressive PU 2000mm water rating with seam sealing that will keep you dry in extended rainy conditions. The PVC bucket floor will keep your internal floor area dry and protected from the elements all year round. 

The optional Safari A-frame kit (sold separately) can be used to replace the internal pole and create more sleeping room in this already spacious tent.

WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

In 1991, Darche revolutionised the traditional swag market with the introduction of the Dome style swag. DARREN O’DWYER, the founder of Darche with his wife CHERYL (DAR-CHE), embarked on an eastern Australia journey. Wanting a shelter arrangement that was quick, practical and easy to stow, Darren used his imagination and created a canvas shell with fibreglass poles and the dome style swag was born. Darren realised he required a suitable and purpose-built factory arrangement in order to suffice demand. Using Australian supply chain partners, Darche became the leading swag and canvas converter in Australia

Today Darche is proudly owned by the Charles Parsons Group who have been actively involved for over 20 years in supplying textile and trim componentry to Darche. Charles Parsons are the largest textile wholesaler in the Southern Hemisphere with offices in every capital city of Australia, including offices in Fiji, Auckland and Shanghai. The day-to-day running of Darche occurs in a warehouse facility based in Thomastown, Victoria with a site area of more than 40,000m2. Darche is overseen by experienced textile product developers, business strategists and passionate staff who are keen outdoor enthusiasts with sound knowledge and experience to match.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT?

Darche’s growth and shortage of experienced canvas converters and local machinists, has seen Darche establish reputable off shore assembly and supply chain partners. Operating from four major plants purposely selected and audited by Darche. Machinists, assemblers, finishers, tool makers and QA/QC supervisors are included in our required workforce of over 180 people over our four plants. It is vitally important to note Darche do not use Trading Houses or vertical arrangements off shore to source product. We at Darche develop all product prototypes in Australia and are involved from concept through to market release. Utilising Charles Parsons accredited laboratories and leading processes, all developments are then vigorously tested at the Thomastown facility and again in real life situations by developers.

The Strelka Institute for Architecture, Media and Design has launched the enrollment campaign for the postgraduate education program. The theme of the 7th academic year at Strelka is entitled  The New Normal . Research will focus on the new contemporary condition, which has emerged because of the rapid development of technology—including machine intelligence, biotechnology, automation, alternative spaces created in VR and AR—and define new paths for urban design and development.

This Moscow Circus School Proposal is Composed of a Series of Domes and Undulating Waves

A team comprised of Chinese architects Hang Guo and Shanshan Li have used the history of theatre and circus to drive their proposal for a new Moscow Circus School. The design, dubbed Dome and Circus , was developed for the recent Architectural Competition Concours d'Architecture (AC-CA) competition , which encouraged participants to consider the ways in which their design could generate discussion about the relationship between architecture and culture.
