2022 Disc Golf Pro Tour and PDGA Majors – Season Recap

The 2022 season was one of the most competitive and captivating years in DGPT and PDGA history. The FPO had more unique winners at DGPT and PDGA Major events than any year prior, showing how deep the women’s field has become. The MPO saw new names in the hunt at almost every event as well, often coming out on top of players who have been ruling the sport for years.

We saw the best and most prolific season of media coverage yet, with the entire DGPT schedule streamed live on Disc Golf Network as well as post-produced content released from countless media outlets.

Year after year the Pro Tour tops itself, hosting more events, making each event more professional, and securing bigger payouts to properly compensate the amazing talent in our sport. This year’s DGPT finals had the largest tournament purse in disc golf history with a total payout of $302,000! The 2023 season promises to have even more tournaments, a more competitive field, and the biggest payouts we have seen yet.

Team Innova Rules the Podium

Team Innova had an amazing year in 2022, with 44 podium finishes and seven wins at DGPT Silver Series, Elite Series, and PDGA Major events. We took home 16 age-protected Major titles, won both MPO and FPO in the inaugural DGPT Match Play Championship, took first place in MPO at the Jarva Open on the European Pro Tour, and won countless A-tier tournaments across the country and world. We had players with breakthrough seasons who may not have made a Pro Tour podium this year, but proved that they have the potential to achieve that goal in the years to come.

Top MPO Performances of 2022

A few of our players had truly sensational seasons. Calvin Heimburg finished on the podium of 7 Elite Series and Major events, securing two victories, and earning 3rd place in the DGPT Point Standings for the year. In perhaps the most electrifying moment of the season, Calvin beat Paul McBeth at the Jonesboro Open in a playoff by throwing a 470-foot, uphill park job for the win. Calvin Heimburg also just took home the largest payout for a win in disc golf history, $50,000 dollars for winning the Big Money Skins Match at Eagle’s Crossing. We were thrilled to announce earlier this month that Calvin Heimburg has signed a five-year extension with Team Innova . As amazing as his season this year was, Calvin’s greatest accomplishments in the sport are still to come!

Joel Freeman proved this year that he has what it takes to maintain composure under final-round pressure and close out big events for the win. He finished on the podium of four DGPT events, won the 2022 Butler County Classic , and won the first edition of the DGPT Match Play Championship. At the 2022 Butler County Classic, Freeman went into the final round with a four stroke deficit and ended the round with a nine stroke lead over 2nd place. That was the largest margin of victory of any Pro Tour event this year.

Top FPO Performances of 2022

For the FPO, Ohn Scoggins had one of the most consistent, best-played seasons in recent Innova history. Ohn finished on the podium of eight DGPT events and Majors this year, landing herself in 4th place in the DGPT Point Standings for 2022. Ohn also took down the inaugural DGPT Match Play Championship for the women.  Ohn Scoggins has widely become a fan favorite, not just for her amazing play, but for the confidence and joy she embodies on the course. It is great to see such an amazing personality find so much success in a single season.

The crowning achievement of Team Innova for the 2022 season has to be Hailey King ’s victory at the United States Women’s Disc Golf Championship. To win a PDGA Major title in the Open division is the highest aspiration most players can hope to achieve. When a player like Hailey accomplishes such a lofty goal at such a young age, the sky’s the limit for what they can achieve in a long career to come.

Top Player Stats from DGPT 2022

In addition to taking home a whole bunch of trophies, Team Innova led the field in a number of important statistics for the 2022 DGPT season. Calvin Heimburg led the MPO for Precise Power Index , a measure designed to help understand which players can throw most accurately at elite level distances. Ohn Scoggins handily led the FPO division in C1 and C2 putting for the 2022 season and in fact led all of Team Innova, FPO and MPO, in combined putting percentages for the year. She also led the FPO field in Scramble percentage. Eveliina Salonen led the field for the FPO in Fairway Hit percentage, and C1 and C2 Hits in Regulation. 5x World Champion, Juliana Korver , had the lowest OB rate of any FPO player on tour. And Innova Crew member Emily Beach is likely to receive the DGPT Rookie of the Year award for her outstanding performance in her first full season on tour.

Age-Protected PDGA Major Titles

Team Innova’s Masters and Juniors Team members had a remarkable season, taking home more PDGA Major titles in 2022 than all of the other company’s teams combined! Out of over 1100 competitors at the 2022 Masters and Juniors Disc Golf World Championships , eight Innova Team members brought home world titles. At the 2022 Tim Selinske Masters , Team Innova took home another seven Major titles with an absolutely commanding performance. Through the four-round event, the average margin of victory for Team Innova winners was 16 strokes! And at the 2022 United States Women’s Disc Golf Championship, Jennifer Allen won a Major title in the FP40+ division. Ohn Scoggins won both the Masters World Championship and the Tim Selinske US Masters in the FP40+ division this year, one of the most impressive accomplishments a Masters player can achieve. This will go down as one of the most dominant seasons from a single team in Age-Protected PDGA Major history.

The Off-Season

The off-season is always bitter-sweet. As the athletes rest, recover, and tweak their games to get ready for 2023, we at home start digging through the Youtube archives, watching old USDGC footage , and counting the days until February and the Las Vegas Challenge. This off-season, Team Innova has an amazing lineup of stories, videos, and social media content to help you tune your bag and improve your skills while awaiting the start of 2023. Each week, we will release a new article to help you find discs, refine your game, or to keep you informed about what’s new in the sport. By the time next spring comes around, you will be better practiced and prepared to get back on the course than ever. A few stories to look forward to include Building and Improving Your Bag, Pro Tips for Winter Disc Golf, our Top 10 Most Common Throwing Errors, and many more. Check in each week on Innovadiscs.com and visit our Youtube , Facebook , and Instagram accounts to fill your off-season with tips, highlights, and all the latest news from Innova!

The end of June brings the 2022 disc golf season to the virtual midway point, and it’s time for a power rankings update. Here’s my updated top-10 selections in MPO and FPO (players had to be in the top 25 in the  DGPT season points standings  to be considered).

Disc Golf Pro Tour 2022 MPO and FPO TOP 10 Rankings – June UPDATE

___________________________

2022 April UPDATE

About one-third of the 2022 Disc Golf Pro Tour season is in the books as we enter May, and it seems like a good time to take stock of what has happened thus far, and try to figure out who the top 10 MPO and FPO players have been so far this season.

The DGPT points standings don’t tell everything. Several players have played a partial schedule and produced strong results, and got a “bump” up my rankings as a result.

Female Professional Open TOP 10 Rankings

(Note: From the seventh spot on, this got pretty tricky — definitely trickier than the MPO rankings. A number of players have played top-10 quality disc golf but haven’t played as many events as those ahead of them in the standings. How you weigh quality vs. quantity will make a significant difference in how you’d rank them. I generally valued quality over quantity. Also, a handful of players are not signed up for the next several DGPT events, so these rankings could get a big shakeup in the next couple months.)

Honorable mention (in order): Ella Hansen, Holyn Handley, Lisa Fajkus, Jessica Weese, Alexis Mandujano, Sarah Hokom, Emily Beach, Maria Oliva, Eveliina Salonen.

Pro Disc Golf's Best Rounds & Tournament Performances: 2022

Alex Williamson avatar

As in previous years , UDisc is using the first few weeks of pro disc golf's offseason to dig into the stats from the world's most prestigious tournaments and shine a light on the most impressive and interesting takeaways. Since all of the world's top pro tournaments were scored with UDisc Live in 2022, there's a lot to talk about, and it'll take a series of posts throughout the next few weeks to cover it all.

If you're interested in learning who played the best rounds and tournaments in pro disc golf in 2022 , this is the right place.

Understanding the Best Rounds & Tournament Performances of 2022

We figured out which pro disc golf rounds and tournaments from 2022 were most impressive by seeing who most exceeded the expectations of UDisc's recently unveiled Win Probability model .

The model accounts for differences in player skill and course difficulty. Any time a pro with a UDisc Live history competes at an event scored on the platform, the model assesses that player's past performance on holes that are similar in length and difficulty to the course(s) at hand as well as how previous fields of competitors did on the course(s). It then predicts a player's likeliest score, which is used to inform winning percentages. The model also suggests a range over and under the predicted score that's fairly likely for that player on that course. The pros who most defied our model's expectations (in a good way) got the nod for best rounds and tournaments of 2022.

Terms Explained

You'll see some lingo and logic in the ranking tables that are probably unfamiliar. Here's some clarification:

  • Expected Score The score our Win Probability model projected for a player (see "Understanding the Best Rounds..." for how that works). Up until now, these numbers have not been published.
  • Expected Deviation The number of strokes a player could shoot over or under their Expected Score that our model would consider fairly normal for that player on that course. This is what the math world calls a standard deviation . Generally, the more consistently players score within a certain range, the lower their Expected Deviation will be. Players who have a history of high highs and low lows will have higher Expected Deviation. The history of score deviations at particular courses can also alter Expected Deviation.
  • Z Score The higher the Z Score, the more impressive a performance is. In technical terms, the Z Score is the number of Expected Deviations a player's Actual Score is from an Expected Score. If you want to do the math, subtract Expected Score from Actual Score, divide that sum by Expected Deviation, and you'll get Z Score.
  • Why does Z Score trump the difference in Expected and Actual Score? Z Score is a better measure of how unusually well a player did. An amateur shooting 12-under on the local pitch-and-putt isn't the same as a pro shooting 12-under on an already hard course jacked to the max for tournament time, right? Though the differences among courses and players are smaller at the sport's upper echelons, they're still significant. Z Score is a fairer way to judge how impressive performances were than simply "Who was most under par?"
  • Why do some rounds/tournaments have the same Z Score but different ranks? Excluding Actual Score, no values used to create these rankings were whole numbers. In the interest of readability, we rounded these values to a single decimal point in the tables you'll see below. However, the rankings are still based on the more precise stats produced by our model.

The Best Rounds in Pro Disc Golf: 2022

For some sports, it's easy to tell which performances were most outstanding in any given year. In indoor swimming, for example, everyone is measured against the clock. Conditions are consistent enough that it's not outrageous to compare the time someone swam a 100-meter freestyle in Australia versus someone in Mexico or France.

No matter where they were, whoever did it fastest did it best.

We all know disc golf is different. To identify the best rounds from pro disc golf this year, we needed our version of indoor swimming's clock – a single benchmark of quality that we could measure all players against. So we looked to the highest standard we could think of: The predicted performances of the world's current #1 disc golfers in FPO and MPO, Kristin Tattar and Ricky Wysocki.

This means that, for FPO, we pretended that we expected world-leading, Tattar-level performances out of every player during every round and found out who most outperformed that lofty standard. In MPO we looked at how everyone fared when asked to live up to our sky-high predictions for Wysocki. No matter who they were, if they most outperformed our expectations of Tattar or Wysocki, they did it best. Brief Notes About Rankings

Rounds were ranked by Z Score (see last column in any table).

(Player Actual Score - Division #1 Expected Score) / Division #1 Expected Deviation = Z Score As we mentioned earlier, though some Z Scores are the same, the rounds are ranked according to more exact numbers not shown in the tables.

See ' Terms Explained' for further explanation.

The Five Best FPO Rounds in Pro Disc Golf: 2022

Estonian Kristin Tattar put on an almost unprecedented show of dominance in FPO in 2022. In all, she completed 16 events scored with UDisc Live in 2022. She won 50% of those (including claiming her first world title) and never placed lower than third. The three rounds above where she leaped well over her own very high bar are particularly prominent milestones in a historic season.

But Tattar didn't produce 2022's most impressive round. That honor goes to Paige Pierce, who's tied with two other players for the most all-time World Championships in FPO .

Pierce's 2022 season ended in a slump. But back in May, when she shot her spectacular second round at the OTB Open, she wasn't far past two big wins at March's Texas State Disc Golf Championship (a DGPT Elite event) and April's Champions Cup (a PDGA Major ) – seemingly on the road to a typically outstanding year. Take a look at Pierce sinking a C2 putt for birdie during the best FPO round of the year:

The Five Best MPO Rounds in Pro Disc Golf: 2022

Joel Freeman's 14-under par during the soggy final round of the DGPT Silver event the Butler County Disc Golf Classic made a splash when it happened in early September 2022. Freeman started the round four behind the leader and ended up winning by nine. In case you're not impressed yet, know that the average score of all competitors for that round was more than 2- over par. It was such a feat that fellow pro competitor and popular disc golf media personality Jeremy 'Big Jerm' Koling took to social media to praise it. In his post, Koling even said that "his [Freeman's] round will never receive the historical recognition it deserves." Well, we don't know if this is exactly the recognition Koling was thinking of, but it seems like recognizing it as the best pro disc golf round in 2022 is a good place to start.

Take in the last throws – and loads of commentator praise – of Freeman's historic round in these two clips from the par 4 hole 18:

The Five Best Tournament Performances in Pro Disc Golf: 2022

Here we used the same math that went into determining 2022's best rounds to pinpoint the year's best full tournament showings. Read the intro to the section about the best rounds , sub in "tournament" for "round," and you'll understand the rankings in this section.

Best FPO Tournament Performances in Pro Disc Golf: 2022

Tattar won the most prestigious event in disc golf – the World Championship – by eight strokes, so we weren't too surprised when that result popped up as the best tournament showing of the year. Check out one of the many incredible shots from Tattar's Worlds triumph in the clip below, where she launches a prayer of a birdie shot from outside Circle 2 during the fourth round:

Best MPO Tournament Performances in Pro Disc Golf: 2022

Due to battling an injury that forced him to stop throwing one of the most powerful and accurate sidearms in the game, Eagle McMahon played just two Elite and three Major tournaments in 2022. That's compared to most top competitors playing all four Majors and over 10 Elite events.

Still, when McMahon showed up at the European Open, he didn't fail to live up to his reputation as one of the best disc golfers in the world. He smashed our expectations for Wysocki by not just exceeding our expected score for his fellow top pro but outdoing it by a whopping 16 strokes (and change).

If McBeth hadn't also churned out one of the year's best tournaments (see #3 in the rankings above), McMahon would have left every competitor light years behind. He and McBeth were, respectively, 17 and 16 strokes clear of third place...at a Major .

Now, take a few seconds to watch the righthanded, sidearm-less McMahon coolly birdie a 381-foot/116-meter hole throwing lefthanded. Lefty drive:

Righty putt:

The Biggest Overachievers in Pro Disc Golf - Single Rounds & Full Tournaments: 2022

Whereas we needed a single standard to measure all players against to objectively say who played the best rounds and tournaments of 2022, figuring out the biggest overachievers was simpler. All we had to do was check which players most outperformed our model's predictions for them .

For example, the biggest overachiever at a tournament in MPO outperformed our model's predicted score for him by about 38 strokes. He shot a 42-under when our model predicted he would finish around 4-under. Again, we use Z Score and not the difference in Actual and Expected Score for the rankings here. If you haven't taken a look at what those terms mean yet, you can find explanations here.

Biggest FPO Overachievers in 2022 Pro Disc Golf - Single Rounds

Paige Pierce's round at OTB comes in as not just the best FPO round of 2022 but also the biggest overachievement.

Biggest MPO Overachievers in 2022 Pro Disc Golf - Single Rounds

*These round numbers reflect where you'll find the scores on UDisc Live, which matches the Worlds A Pool schedule. These players were in the Worlds B Pool and played courses in a different order.

Freeman, like Pierce, claims the top spot for best and most overachieving round of the year in his division, and he said in a social media post that it was the "best round of disc golf [he] had ever played" and made it clear he knew it was something truly extraordinary. Here's another telling snippet from his post:

I was playing well, but I was also getting lucky. On 11, 12, and 13 I got lucky breaks three holes in a row, which ended up extending my lead. It made me feel weird, but luck will always inevitably be a part of this game, especially when playing in the woods. It's a rare combination to play really well and get lucky in the same day, which is part of what made yesterday's round so special.

Biggest FPO Overachievers in 2022 Pro Disc Golf - Full Tournaments

With four FPO players producing the most unexpected performances of the year at Worlds, it seems quite a few competitors really brought their A-games to the sport's biggest stage.

Biggest MPO Overachievers in 2022 Pro Disc Golf - Full Tournaments

Like in FPO, 2022's Worlds saw some players reaching deep and coming up with showings that were hard to believe. It's still crazy to think that the #2 performance above put little-known Aaron Gossage into a playoff with superstar Paul McBeth for the title of MPO World Champion. And it's maybe even crazier that at the same tournament another dark horse, Tristan Tanner, overachieved more than Gossage.

Thanks to Everyone!

Disc Golf Pro Tour event receives threat of violence as trans athlete participates

Trans competitor Natalie Ryan later confirmed on Instagram that she was targeted by a threat sent to the Music City Open in Nashville.

disc golf pro tour winners 2022

This weekend’s Disc Golf Pro Tour event in Nashville, Tenn., the Music City Open, saw play suspended for nearly two hours during second-round play Saturday while Nashville police investigated a threat against the event.

A statement from the DGPT said that a call came into the site of the event that stated there would be “a threat of potential violence against a competitor at this weekend’s tournament.”

“Threats of violence at DGPT events are utterly unacceptable and are treated with the utmost seriousness by our entire staff,”  Jeff Spring, DGPT CEO and Tour Director said in an official statement.  “We have deployed additional security resources to enhance the safety measures in place for all individuals on-site. Those measures will be in place for the remainder of the weekend.”

The second round was completed but with a higher level of security on the grounds. Among those who received additional security was Natalie Ryan, a transgender woman who is a tour regular who fought a year-long legal battle over her eligibility to compete.

Her fight has been a subject of pride for some, and an object of derision for others online and in public since the DGPT tried to change the rules to disallow her playing in pro women’s competition in 2023.

Ryan later confirmed via Instagram that she was one of those threatened along with the entire tournament.

“I’ve dealt with threats to myself through my career, but today was different. Today someone called in a threat of violence against myself and potentially the other players, staff, and spectators,” she said .

“This threat is a perfect example of what happens when extreme views are tolerated in a community. Tolerating and including folks with extreme views, like today’s caller, breed these threats. Continuing to use language that makes these people feel comfortable and valid will only make our situation worse.”

An LGBTQIA+ advocacy group within the sport, Throw Proud, also issued a statement.

“It is one thing to disagree, and for something as new to public debate as trans women competing against cis women, it is understandable that people will disagree,” the group stated.

“What is more important than whether you disagree is how you do so. Hate and violence have no place anywhere. Everyone deserves better — do better.”

Estonian Kristin Tattar, who has been dominant on the tour for the last two years, won the tournament. Ryan was 13-over par for the weekend and finished 15th.

Here's the prize money payout for each golfer at the 2024 Corales Puntacana Championship

B illy Horschel jumped out to an early scorching start with four birdies on the first five holes Sunday to quickly take the lead, one he would never relinquish. Horschel then added another four birdies and an eagle to his scorecard to shoot a final-round 63 and win the Corales Puntacana Championship for his eighth PGA Tour title. The 63 also matched a course record at the Corales course at Puntacana Resort in the Dominican Republic.

Horschel, 37, followed 67-69 with 66-63 over the weekend to end at 23-under-total, two shots ahead of Wesley Bryan, who was looking to go wire-to-wire while playing on a sponsor exemption this week. It was his best finish on tour since 2017.

This marks the sixth time in the previous seven playings of the event that the winner has been in his 30s. Horschel also earned $720,000 from the overall $4 million purse. Bryan earned $436,000.

For Horschel, it was his first victory since the Memorial in 2022, where he topped Aaron Wise by four shots that week.

"This game of golf's so fickle, I think you can put a lot into it and get everything you want out of it," Horschel said. "But I knew in my 14 years, 13 years previously on the PGA Tour that I had the ability, I had the talent, I just needed to continue to work hard and do the right things and continue to believe that good stuff was going to come to the forefront at some point in time."

Horschel was asked about winning an opposite field event for the first time in his career. He was not in the signature events as he finished last season ranked No. 90 in FedEx Cup standings. He entered this week ranked 83rd in the World Ranking, having missed the cut at his last start, the Valero Texas Open two weeks ago.

"The PGA Tour has a lot of tournaments and it's tough for every tournament to get their due," he said. "Opposite field events have been crucial for a lot of players coming up the ranks. Look at Tony Finau, Viktor Hovland winning in Puerto Rico, Matt Wallace won this. So listen, it's another opportunity to play, it's another opportunity to become a better player, to get that win on the PGA Tour.

Also of note, twin brothers Parker and Pierceson Coody both finished inside the top 20. Parker opened with a first-round 66 and ended tied for sixth place at 16 under par. Pierceson opened with consecutive rounds of 67 and tied for 18th place at 12 under par, four shots behind his brother.

2024 RBC Heritage purse, prize money: Payout for Scottie Scheffler, golfers from $20M signature event pool

Another signature event means another big winner's check was up for grabs in south carolina.

rbc-heritage-trophy-2023-g.png

Another week, another monstrous purse on the PGA Tour (taken home by Scottie Scheffler). The first signature event to be played following the 2024 Masters took place in Hilton Head, South Carolina, with the RBC Heritage hosting the best golfers on Tour -- and the best golfer in the world came out on top once again

With $20 million on the line in totality, Scottie Scheffler won for the fourth time in his last five starts , cashing a cool $3.6 million winner's share.

There was not a cut in place this week, so everyone in the field was guaranteed at least $41,000 no matter how many crooked numbers they posted. This is the new way of life for Tour pros as this is one of eight big-money signature events, only three of which have a cut.

Your first four winners from signature events this season ...

  • The Sentry: Chris Kirk ($3.6 million)
  • Pebble Beach Pro Am: Wyndham Clark ($3.6 million)
  • Genesis Invitational: Hideki Matsuyama ($4 million)
  • Arnold Palmer Invitational: Scottie Scheffler ($4 million)
  • RBC Heritage: Scottie Scheffler ($3.6 million)

Scheffler has now won $16.25 million over his last five starts, including $3.6 million for taking the 2024 Masters, $4.5 million for winning The Players Championship and $554,000 for finishing second at the Houston Open.

The Wells Fargo Championship, Memorial and Travelers Championship will round out the eight signature events for 2024. Only the Memorial will have a cut. Add it all up, and there is nearly $200 million at stake between those eight tournaments plus The Players Championship, which Scheffler won in early March.

Let's take a look at the payout list for the 2024 RBC Heritage for the 69 players who are playing this event.

2024 RBC Heritage prize money, purse

2024 PDGA Champions Cup: Top Storylines + How to Watch

In the know: your guide to watching the 2024 pdga champions cup with top storylines & stats.

The 2024 PDGA Champions Cup at Northwood Park brings together top disc golf talents in a gripping contest of skill and determination. In the MPO division, veterans like Ricky Wysocki and Paul McBeth vie for major redemption and a record-tying win, while rising stars Anthony Barela and Gannon Buhr aim to upset the status quo. On the FPO side, Kristin Tattar seeks to extend her major win streak, with challengers like Missy Gannon and Ohn Scoggins not far behind. The shift to Northwood Park (that’s right, don’t call it Northwood Black – it’s a new layout) adds unpredictability, promising a thrilling event where legends are tested and new stars may rise.

FPO LOOKAHEAD – 5 Storylines to Watch This Weekend

FPO round 1 feature card: Kristin Tattar, Paige Pierce, Missy Gannon, & Ohn Scoggins FPO round 1 feature card: Eveliina Salonen, Holyn Handley, Jennifer Allen, & Eliezra Midtlyng

1. Kristin Tattar’s Dominance on Display

Kristin Tattar enters the 2024 PDGA Champions Cup as the player to beat. With back-to-back Elite wins this season and a record of five straight FPO Major victories from 2022-2023, Tattar’s form is impeccable. Notably, Tattar hasn’t missed the top 10 at a Major in her career, and her event ratings have been on a steady climb, peaking at 1017 during the Music City Open last weekend, signaling her readiness to extend her streak. Will the Champions Cup be the event to put Tattar into the long-awaited 1000-rated club?

2. Missy Gannon’s Mastery in Peoria

Missy Gannon has proven nearly unbeatable at Northwood Park, capturing the Ledgestone title two years running. With a recent major win at the 2024 US Women’s Disc Golf Championships last month, Gannon’s high average rating of 986 at this course under Major/Elite conditions makes her a top contender. A win here would make Gannon the first player to win their first two FPO Majors back-to-back since Sarah Cunningham, ‘09 USW – ‘10 Worlds.

3. Ohn Scoggins Chases Maiden Major Win

Veteran disc golfer Ohn Scoggins is eyeing her first FPO Major win, having secured five FP40 Major titles previously. Her consistent performance, with back-to-back second-place finishes at Ledgestone and a never-miss record in top 10 Major/Elite Series finishes since this time last year (minus a DNF at Worlds last year) positions her as a dark horse in this championship.

4. The Shift to Northwood Park

The relocation of this PDGA Pro Major event to Northwood Park due to a beetle infestation at the WR Jackson course adds an element of unpredictability. Players will need to quickly adapt to the new layout.

5. Paige Pierce’s Major Drought

Paige Pierce, a dominant force with the second-most FPO Major podiums and wins, faces her longest major win drought of 644 days (her last win was the 2022 European Open). As she gears up for the Champions Cup, all eyes will be on Pierce to see if she can reclaim her top form and end the dry spell. A win this weekend would put Pierce at 18 PDGA Pro Major wins.

MPO LOOKAHEAD – 5 Storylines to Watch This Weekend

MPO round 1 feature card: Isaac Robinson, Paul McBeth, Eagle McMahon, & Anthony Barela MPO round 1 feature card: Chris Dickerson, Ricky Wysocki, Niklas Antilla, & Calvin Heimburg

1. The Quest for Redemption and Records

Ricky Wysocki, a veteran seeking to end a major drought that dates back to 2017, boasts the highest career average rating at a Northwood layout (1048 on Black). With a reputation as a three-time Ledgestone champion and a strong past performance at the course, Wysocki’s pursuit of major redemption remains a top storyline. Meanwhile, Paul McBeth eyes history, sitting just one major win away from tying Ken Climo’s record of 18 MPO Major wins. McBeth, known for his high win rate, could achieve a historic tie at the Champions Cup. After a solid weekend in Nashville, Paul just might do it.

2. The Rising Stars

Anthony Barela , who is currently leading the DGPT World Standings , and Gannon Buhr , right behind him, represent the new wave in professional disc golf. Despite their strong seasonal performances, both have shown vulnerabilities in past majors, adding intrigue to their potential breakthroughs at Northwood Park.

3. International Challengers

Niklas Anttila , third in DGPT points , will be playing in Illinois for the first time, introducing an unknown element among top contenders. His performance could either shake up the leaderboard or expose the challenges newcomers face at such a prestigious event.

4. Calvin Heimburgh: Consistency vs. Major Victory

Calvin Heimburg, despite holding nine Elite Series wins and sharing the course record at the previously played Northwood Black, has yet to secure a Major win. Actually, he’s tied for most E-wins without a Major to accompany them. The monkey very much remains on his back, and this weekend is his first opportunity to shake it off this season. Heimburg’s consistent performances have kept him in the conversation, but converting this into a major victory remains his next big hurdle.

5. Return from Recovery

Eagle McMahon returns to Major competition this weekend after a shoulder injury. His past successes following recovery periods hint at the potential for a strong comeback. Given his history of strong returns, this storyline will be closely watched by fans and competitors alike. How will the Young Bird handle a new bag at a newly designed layout? You’ll have to tune in to find out.

Lena, our guide in Moscow was excellent. She was very knowledgable and could answer any question we had for her. We liked that she could pick up on our interests and take us places we might not have thought of to go. When we realized that one of the places we had chosen to see would probably not be that interesting to us, she was able to arrange entry to the Diamond Fund and the Armoury for us. Riding the Metro with Lena was a real adventure and a lot of fun. In Saint Petersburg we found Anna well versed in the history of the Tsars and in the Hermitage collection. Arkady in Veliky Novgorod was a very good guide and answered all of our questions with ease. Novgorod was perhaps a long way to go for a day trip, but we did enjoy it. Vasily was a great driver to have and kept us safe with good humour and skill. We enjoyed ourselves so much, my daughter says she is already planning to return. We would both have no hesistation to recommend ExpresstoRussia to anyone we know.

Just wanted to let you know that My grandson Bruno and I couldn´t have been more pleased with our week in Moscow (6/15 - 6/21). We were absolutely enchanted with the whole experience, including getting lost a couple of times in the Metro during our free time. Although both our guides (both Eleanas) were excellent, I would particularly commend the first one (she took us to the Tatiakov, the KGB tour, and to that beautiful cemetery where so many great Russian artists, authors, composers, musicians, militarists, and politicians are buried). Her knowledge is encyclopedic; and her understanding of today´s Russia as a product of its past was, for us, truly enlightening. I will be taking another tour in Russia, with my wife, within the next two or three years. I will be in touch with you when the time comes. Meanwhile, I will refer you to other potential visitors to Russia as I meet them.

Moscow, a City Like No Other

Moscow is Russia’s largest city with a population of between 12 and 13 million. It is also Europe’s largest city and when you visit Moscow, you can feel it. The layout and architecture of the city is eclectic, ranging from crooked, ancient streets and alleyways to wide, bustling boulevards, from medieval churches to Stalin skyscrapers and to modern, glass buildings towering over everything and of course in the center of it all is the Kremlin and the magnificent Red Square. Moscow is also home to a fantastic, efficient and very beautiful metro system – each station having its own special design. In fact, Express to Russia’s Moscow metro tours and excursions are some of our most popular attractions that we offer. On our Moscow tours, you will see this and more.

Moscow Tours centering on Russian History

Moscow has a long and interesting history and has been the capital of Russia in many of its different iterations – capital of the Grand Duchy of Moscow , the Russian Empire and of course the Soviet Union (who could ever forget the Soviet Union?). Moscow, was founded in the 12th century by Prince Yuri Dolgaruki (Yuri of the long arms – he really did have long arms!). From that time on, it was home to the Russian Tsars until Peter the Great moved the capital to St. Petersburg in 1703. The city has survived invasions and sieges from the Mongols, the Tartars, the Poles, Lithuanians and Napoleon but has always persevered. Our Moscow tours will enlighten you on this great history and give you insights into Muscovites and their unique culture. Our Moscow tours show you what the city is like today but also brings to life the past. Moscow never seems to sleep and is bursting with energy. A Moscow tour with Express to Russia is truly the best way of getting to know Russia’s largest and most vibrant city.

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers

What is the best time to visit moscow.

Any time of year is fine depending on what you plan to do. Summertime is pleasantly warm, ideal for exploring the city and its vibrant atmosphere, but Moscow will be much busier and accommodation is more expensive. Winter can be quite cold but beautiful nonetheless, and this is unproblematic if you intend to spend most of your trip in museums and galleries. There are also various festivals and events organised throughout the year. For more information about the best time to visit, read our guide

How many days are enough in Moscow?

If you plan your itinerary strategically and aren’t averse to a packed schedule, you can cover Moscow’s main sights over a long weekend. Most popular attractions are in the city centre, and the Moscow Metro allows you to cover much ground in a small amount of time. Ensure that your accommodation is fairly central and book tickets in advance, so that you can make the most of your days. For an informative and well-organised day out, check out our Moscow day tours with options to suit all interests.

Do they speak English in Moscow?

As Russia’s capital city, tourists are well accommodated in Moscow. There should be English-speaking staff in restaurants, bars, hotels, shops and attractions in tourist hotspots, and there are also English-speaking tourist police. Transport services have English translations on their maps and English announcements via intercom; alternatively, order taxis from the Yandex Taxi app (Russian Uber), though it’s unlikely that your taxi driver will speak English. If you get stuck and cannot communicate, it’s fine to use Google Translate.

Is it safe to travel to Moscow?

It is no less safe to travel to Moscow than to any European city if you exercise common sense and look after your belongings. As with every city some regions can be more unsavoury than others, but no tourist attractions are located there. The traffic in Moscow is notorious, so exercise caution when crossing roads. Do not take unlicensed taxis; book in advance or take public transport, which is widespread and perfectly safe. If you encounter any problems, look for the special tourist police who can help you.
