The Bronx Brewery

The Bronx Brewery

  • price 2 of 4

New York state was once the largest producer of hops in the United States, but over the last century, the great beer-making tradition lost some steam. This brewery brought it back to the Bronx in 2011, where they’ve been doling out pours of their signature Bronx Pale Ale and seasonal varietals ever since. Stop by on Saturdays and Sundays for free tours at 1:30pm, 3:30pm and 5:30pm. When the weather’s warm, you can even sip your pint outside in the brewery’s backyard. Sounds like the ideal Sunday afternoon to us. Free

Brooklyn Brewery

Brooklyn Brewery

  • Williamsburg

It’s always beer-thirty at this stalwart New York brewery. Thirsty drinkers can drop in for one of its two-hour guided tasting tours on weekdays or gratis ten-minute walkthroughs on weekends. During the former, you’ll sip four beers—including seasonal and rare Brewmaster’s Reserve pours. Don’t worry, you can still imbibe during the freebie tour by nabbing a pint ($5, five for $20) in the tasting room. During your stroll, peep the eight fermentation tanks that were shipped over from Germany, each holding up to 45,000 pints at a time. The tasting room is currently undergoing a reservation, so all tours and tastings are on hold until May 23.  $18 for a Small Batch tour; basic tours are free

The Flagship Brewing Co.

The Flagship Brewing Co.

  • Staten Island
  • price 1 of 4

A hops' throw from the Ferry terminal, this Staten Island brewery run by Harpoon vet Patrick Morse and former Phoenix beer distributor Jay Sykes was the first to bring brewing back to the borough, which has been brewery-free since Piels closed its plant in the 1960s. Cool down after the ferry ride  with tall mugs of the award-winning IPA, full-bodied Metropolitan Lager and other seasonal suds in the taproom. On Saturdays, boozehounds can pay $5 for a tour and tasting at either 2:30 or 4pm. $5

Interboro Spirits & Ales

Interboro Spirits & Ales

Though this distillery-brewery combo doesn’t offer in-house tours, you can get VIP access to the production process on a City Brew Tour . Keep an eye out for collaborations with local breweries like Threes and Transmitter Brewing, as well as more unorthodox partners like rap duo Run the Jewels. On the spirits side, Interboro’s canned Goodwin Hill Gin and Tonic has already carved out a local following since its introduction early last year. $115 for the Original Brew Tour from City Brew Tours

Rockaway Brewing Company

Rockaway Brewing Company

  • Long Island City

Though this brewery was born as a homebrewing project in its namesake Rockaway Beach, owners Ethan Long and Marcus Burnett set up their professional digs in Long Island City in 2012. Drop by the Queens brewery and taproom (or their new Rockaway location) to try favorites like the Nitro Black Gold Stout or Original ESB Craft Ale. See how the sausage gets made on one of the many free tours: Fridays at 6pm, Saturdays at 2pm, 3pm, 4pm and 6pm, Sundays at 3pm and 5pm. And if you find something you love, you can always buy a growler ($25 for a 64-ounce growler, $12 for a 32-ounce growler) to take it to go. Free

SingleCut Beersmiths

SingleCut Beersmiths

Queens, a borough laden with beer makers before Prohibition, returns to its frothy roots with its first full-scale brewery in decades. The 30-barrel brew house has a taproom outfitted with lagering tanks, a stage for live music and refillable growlers for purchase ($8–$12 for an empty growler). SingleCut hosts free 30-minute tasting tours each Sunday at 5pm, when you can sample the solely-brewed-in-Astoria beers, including the 19-33 Pilsner and the Softly Spoken Magic Spells IIPA. Free

Transmitter Brewing

Transmitter Brewing

This six-barrel brewery and tasting room in Long Island City integrates unique strains of yeast from their brewery “library” into farmhouse-style suds, like Brett Pale Ale and Gin Barrel Golden Ale. It sells beer in bottles instead of on draft, so come with a group of friends and buy a few varieties to share in the production-facility-cum-bar. Tours here are a more casual affair—just ask an employee to show you the digs on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Casual tours only

Distilleries

Cacao Prieto

Cacao Prieto

  • Chocolate and candy

Listen up, chocoholics: This Red Hook chocolatier has a way for you to satisfy your sweet tooth and get your buzz on at the same time. Cacao Prieto applies the same single-origin, bean-to-bar philosophy it uses to make organic chocolate bars to its cacao rum and liqueur. Regular public tours—which include a tasting flight of both the chocolate and spirits—happen every Saturday and Sunday at noon, 2pm, 4pm and 6pm. $20

Greenhook Ginsmiths

Greenhook Ginsmiths

This isn’t the run-of-the-mill stuff you find doused with tonic in dive bars. Greenhook Ginsmiths relies on a custom-made copper still and unique vacuum distilling process to preserve the  delicate aromas of juniper, elderflower and chamomile . Reserve a spot in an hourlong tour any Saturday at 2:30pm to meet the ginsmiths and taste all three of the intriguing spirits: American Dry Gin, Beach Plum Gin Liqueur and Old Tom Gin. $20 for two people

Industry City Distillery

Industry City Distillery

Industry City, a group of repurposed waterfront warehouses that until 1974 was called Bush Terminal, houses this Brooklyn distillery built by five pals, all newbies in the alcohol industry. Plunk down $5 to join a tour every Saturday at 3pm. You will spot house-made items like a $3,000 yeast propagator tank that normally retails for more than $300,000 and a letterpress for bottle labels. Along with the golden Willy Wonka–inspired ticket you receive with your tour, you’ll also have a chance to taste the goods. $5

Kings County Distillery

Kings County Distillery

  • Brooklyn Navy Yard

This whiskey distillery pumps handcrafted, organic-corn-based moonshines and bourbons in the Brooklyn Navy Yard’s 119-year-old Paymaster Building. Using only New York grain, old-school distilling practices (for example, aging whiskey for at least 14 months in charred-oak barrels) and minimal packaging, Kings County Distillery harkens back to a pre-Prohibition NYC. The hourlong tour grants admission to the “Boozeum,” which displays old photos and newspaper clippings about NYC’s distilling history, and includes three slugs of the hard stuff. $14.84

New York Distilling Company

New York Distilling Company

  • Cocktail bars

Visitors to this Williamsburg craft distillery can enjoy a guided tasting of spirits like the Perry’s Tot 114-proof Navy Strength Gin (one of the few navy-strength gins produced in the country) and the Dorothy Parker American Gin (a contemporary-style gin infused with elderberry and dried hibiscus petals). Free tours happen every Saturday at 2:30pm, 3:30pm and 5pm, but boozehounds who don't want to fight the crowds can shell out an extra $30 for the VIP tours at 1:30pm on Saturdays and Sunday. Since your ticket comes with a complimentary cocktail and 200-millileter flask of rye, it's actually a pretty sweet deal. $30 for a VIP tour; basic tours are free

The Noble Experiment

The Noble Experiment

  • East Williamsburg

There’s a definite retro feel to this East Williamsburg rum distillery: "The Noble Experiment" was once a nickname for the 18th Amendment, while the name of the distillery's flagship rum honors Owen “Owney” Madden, a notorious bootlegger. That  white, unaged rum is the distillery's sole spirit, but it's an unusual one: Owney's is cold-fermented for a whole five days.  Join a one-hour tour each Friday at 3pm to learn about the production process and taste the distinctive rum straight up. $10

Port Morris Distillery

Port Morris Distillery

Adventurous drinkers must head up to the Bronx to taste this tiny distillery’s little known spirit: pitorro , a Puerto Rican moonshine made from sugar cane. This stuff is strong—92 proof—and comes from an old family recipe that master distiller (and tio to founder Ralph Barbosa) Rafael Rodriguez brought with him from Puerto Rico. Sample both the original pitorro and pitorro anejo aged in wooden barrels on a tour of the facilities. $12 for two people

Van Brunt Stillhouse

Van Brunt Stillhouse

  • Things to do
  • Sport events

This Red Hook spot brings spirits like New York grain whiskey, Due North rum and rye  moonshine back to the borough where they were once heavily produced. Investigate the process behind copper-pot distilling before concluding the tour with a taste of the good stuff. If you like what you taste, you're in luck: The tour ticket gets you a $10 discount on any bottle.  $10

Brooklyn Winery

Brooklyn Winery

The thorough behind-the-scenes tours at this Williamsburg winery also include a curated tasting of a variety of wines at the bar. Our tip? Ask about their award-winning vintages, like the 2013 Cabernet Franc made from grapes grown on the North Fork of Long Island and the Finger Lakes–grown 2014 Riesling, which the winemakers expect to continue to age well until at least 2024. $35

City Winery

City Winery

For 35 bones, embark on a tour and tasting at this Soho restaurant, bar and live music venue. Tours include a sneak peek of the barrel room as well as a taste of unfinished wine and a flight of three wines on tap paired with a seasonal cheese plate. Oenophiles will be happy to know that City Winery offers tours seven days a week at 4pm. $35

Red Hook Winery

Red Hook Winery

Red Hook has become a stronghold of the Brooklyn DIY food and drink movement, with artisanal chocolate, vermouth and other goodies spilling from the cobblestoned community. In 2008, the ’hood upped its quota of locally sourced fare with the opening of Red Hook Winery, which uses exclusively New York State grapes to make riesling, sauvignon blanc, cabernet franc and other wines. Stop by on weekends to enjoy a tasting ($15 for four pours) and a complimentary 15-minute tour of the facilities, or book a private barrel tasting and tour. $35 for a barrel tasting and tour

Rooftop Reds

Rooftop Reds

  • Event spaces
  • Downtown Brooklyn

As if you needed more proof of the city’s obsession with rooftops, consider Rooftop Reds, the first commercially viable rooftop vineyard in the world. The open-air bar in the Brooklyn Navy Yard boasts hammocks, skyline views and reasonably priced wines by the glass or bottle. Sign up for the weekly tour on Wednesdays at 7pm to find out how one makes wine on a roof and sample wine and cheese pairings. $25

Drunks of Antiquity: The Detroit Historic Bar Tour

It’s BACK! The most popular bar tour in Detroit’s history is on the road again. We’ll stop at some of Detroit’s oldest, most notorious and most interesting bars, sharing stories along the way- over a few pints, of course. Picks up in BOTH Ferndale and Detroit.

Runs 7:00PM on Fridays and 6:00PM on Saturdays.

What is this Madness?

Simply speaking, it’s a guided bus tour aboard a cool renovated hand-painted bus that hits three of Detroit’s oldest bars. It’s so much more than that though. It’s a way of life. Come and find out.

Ever since Detroit was a mere French missionary outpost, the city’s history has been entwined with the story of its citizens’ drinking habits.

Countless stories have been shared over a pint, and a majority of the city’s major moments featured alcohol front and center: the early frontier day’s wild revelry, through the bloody freewheeling days of the Purple Gang & National Prohibition and beyond. We’ll stop at some of Detroit’s oldest, most notorious and most interesting bars, sharing stories along the way- over a few pints, of course.

Detroit’s got some serious chops when it comes to drinking history. So let’s go to that bar that’s been around since 1874.

Or that one that predates World War One. Actually, loads of Detroit bars are older than your grandparents, and we’re visiting as many as we can in the limited time we have. Some of them are snazzy; one or two may be a little dive-y–but in the best way possible. We like to keep the stops a secret because we don’t wanna ruin the surprise, but we promise you’ll have a great time. Matter of fact, we guarantee it.

The Details:

This tour runs most Fridays and Saturdays now. The tour is approximately three hours long. Book your tickets using the fancy “book now” button near the top of the page.

Pickups: This tour boards both in Ferndale and Detroit. Choose your pickup location at checkout.

The Ferndale pickup is at 6:15PM on Friday and 5:15PM on Saturday in front of One Eyed Betty’s at 175 W Troy, Ferndale.

The Detroit pickup is at 7:00PM on Friday and 6:00PM on Saturday in front of Checker Bar at 124 Cadillac Square, Detroit.

READ THAT AGAIN:  The pickup time is different on Friday and Saturday tours.  🙂

Refund Policy: We’ll gladly refund your tickets in full 14 days prior to the day of the event. After that, there’s no refunds. Sorry to be so mean about it.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What happens if I miss the bus? Will the bus wait for me if I’m late? If you miss your pickup in Detroit, you can hustle and make the pickup in Ferndale. We can’t hold the bus for you if you’re late, though. Sorry to be so mean about that. There’s a schedule to keep and we want everyone to have a good time.

Can I drink on the bus? Yes, but with great power comes great responsibility. What we mean is take it easy and don’t wear the proverbial lampshade. This is a 21+ tour only. You’re on a starting and stopping bus. No, you can’t pee on the curb. Also, please only bring things with lids; no open cups. Small coolers only, since the big ones are a safety hazard. And it’s just plain illegal to take any open container on or off the bus. Drink on the bus? Sure. At the bar? Absolutely. But no drinks in the no-man’s-land in between the two. It’s the law, dude.

What about food? We are hitting some bars that don’t have a whole lot of food options. We recommend, then, that you fuel up ahead of time and/or bring lots of snacks. Drinking and learning is hard work.

Do the bars take credit cards? Some do, some don’t. It’s probably easiest for everyone if you bring some cash along. It’s quicker anyway, and who doesn’t love making it rain?

What if I can’t show up? Will my friend be able to go instead? Totally. Just let us know ahead of time via [email protected] and we’ll update your tickets with the new name or send them with your printed tickets.

Will you be selling extra seats at the bus? Nope. Sorry. All passes gotta be bought online. There’s a limited number of seats and we want you to have plenty of room – no roof riders no matter how badass that might sound.

What about weather SNAFUs? We live in Michigan. Sometimes Mother Nature likes to throw us a curveball. We keep safety as our highest priority. In case of gnarly weather, you’ll receive an email the day of the event with a raincheck/snowcheck date. If you cannot make the rescheduled date, you’ll get a voucher good for a future tour with us.

PSST! We also offer a  private tour  version of this experience. Reach out to us to book for your group.

This was an awesome time. We had a group of 6 , and will.definitely be doing it again. Our tour guide was great, and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend.

Curt Johnson – August 14, 2016

Kudos to Roland and Maurice! Had a blast! Great group of people. Even got my name on the buyers board

Julie Wilkie – September 25, 2016

14 of us did this last night. What a blast!!! Highly recommended. All the bars were fantastic, full of fun and history. Maurice and Roland were awesome.

Robert – October 2, 2016

We booked a tour with the Detroit bus Company. It was a rainy night but the tour and our guide Maurice made up for the weather. It was fun, informative and we had a blast with the folks on board. If you’re in Detroit, don’t miss this tour to see some of Detroits more interesting watering holes.

Gina – October 16, 2016

Who’s your driver? Roland! Who’s your tour guide? Karen! ❤️ Obey the house keeping rules! These two are just awesome! Karen is very informative and fun! Roland, you couldn’t ask for a better driver! Both of them are personable and friendly !Good times! Add this tour to your bucket list!

Darlene Lumma – November 20, 2016

Nov 19, 2016 first freezing cold night of the season. Had a great time with Justin and Roland. Would absolutely recommend it to everyone.

Katy – March 7, 2017

This was an amazing evening! Got to discover some hidden jems while taking a tour through the city.

hcancun – October 16, 2017

This bus company is phenomenal! We had a group outing for the Drunks of Antiquity tour and had an absolute blast. I honestly haven’t found anything quite as unique for team outings and found some new bars to take my friends to.

People who complain about it being a “party” bus instead of a history tour: It is well advertised that this is a drinking excursion, as well as a history tour. We definitely received a healthy balance of both.

People who complain who missed the bus: Don’t miss the bus. You’re not the only customers 🙂

I wish I could remember our tour guide and bus drivers’ names, but our tour was back in February 2017. We’re going on the one this Friday AGAIN because we had such a blast the first time around.

I highly recommend this company, especially for team outings! 5 five, 2 thumbs up, high five.

kkarwowska – December 27, 2017

Seriously, whether you are visiting or a local, you MUST take one of their tours!!!!! I did the “Drunks of Antiquity” tour with friends and it was AWESOME!!! The tour guide and driver were SO much fun! I can’t wait until my next visit “home” to try another of their tours.

Tiffany – December 30, 2017

Awesome time with Maurice and Gail! Can’t wait to do it again!

dandy – January 3, 2018

We’re so glad you had an awesome time! Please consider leaving your honest review on Yelp and TripAdvisor too! Honest reviews help our tiny company survive and thrive.

Denice Brown – January 18, 2018

As a lifelong Detroiter, I appreciate the chance to visit bars that have a history! It’s perfect for visitors to the city. And a chance to find a new hangout place! If you get a chance, take it. Fun!

Brenda – January 21, 2018

Our group of 15 had a fantastic time on this tour! The only thing that was problematic was finding parking in Ferndale as we got on at Rosie O’Grady’s (the meters are only for 2 hours…we finally just parked in the back of the Post Office lot and prayed our car wasn’t going to get towed…It didn’t). The tour was great though and we all thoroughly enjoyed the four bars that we went to (don’t want to list the names as I don’t want to ruin the surprise!). If you are looking for a fun night out and have a group of friends, mark this on your calendar to do!

Jon – April 8, 2018

We had a group of 40 and all had a fantastic time. I’ll be booking this again for my corporate event soon. Very, very cool.

Lori Mabee – April 8, 2018

Went on the tour last night and haven’t had that much fun in a long time!! Absolutely worth every cent…plus the mission of this company is outstanding with their Ride for Ride program. Our guide Monique King was phenomenal both informative and funny. Loved this event!

Jan Wellman – April 22, 2018

Six of us took the Drunk tour on Friday April 20, 2018. All of us agreed that it was a wonderfully fun time! Everyone on the bus was there to have fun and join in the party. Monique was our tour guide, and she was great! Histerically funny! Wonderful on the inside also, as we had the opportunity to speak privately with her. I highly recommend taking this tour. In fact, we are going to try to book a private bus in the future…and we will definitely request Monique! Well done, Detroit Bus Company!!

Dan – April 29, 2018

Excellent time.

Pam – May 20, 2018

Our group of 22 chartered a private Drunks of Antiquity Tour. We hit 4 fun, unique spots… definitely Detroit hidden gems. I won’t ruin the surprise by naming any bars here, but we ended the night at a place with some live music which was absolutely perfect for our dancing queens! Special thanks to Harvey, our driver, and Heather, our guide for helping make this night so much fun. I would highly recommended this bar crawl!

Christie – August 24, 2018

There were about 20 of us who did the tour for my birthday. Monique, our tour guide, was fantastic! Hilarious, helpful and informative! Definitely recommend the tour to anyone interested in getting buzzed up, while learning some Detroit history! Thanks again, Monique!!

Doreen M – November 5, 2018

Calvin was a fantastic guide, and fun was had by all. The bars were all staffed well expecting our arrival!

kwel2016 – November 6, 2018

This is the third time I’ve taken this tour and each time was just as much fun. Calvin our guide was very knowledgeable about the Bars and the city of Detroit. The whole experience was a ton of fun! Highly recommend for birthdays and just good group fun. Best Birthday so far!

larpjr – November 19, 2018

This tour was fun I saw 4 bars I would never know even existed. Tour guide was fun and informative all 4 bars were cool, and I like the amount of time we spent at each one! There was a fund raiser at one of the bars for the high school kids and a program for books, the one in Mexican town, and I won the 50/50 raffle, they were so appreciative when I returned the winnings to the charity I almost cried! That made the trip even more fun! There’s a big huge dog at the bar and he was so sweet and cute. The bar with the band was great too. Take this tour, its fun. The bus was really warm and we had bundled up thinking it would be cold but it was hot. Even on a really cold night, Bus driver did and excellent job and bus was in top condition. I think most people are into the ride and the bars, keep the stories very short.

Emma – February 17, 2019

The tour was so much fun! Our guide was Patrick, and he did an amazing job. He was very knowledgeable, fun, and professional. Will definitely do this tour again.

Kristi – March 11, 2019

Ok Debbie Downer here. Don’t get me wrong. This was a blast! Tons of fun! Loved our guide Monique and our fantastic driver (sorry. Forgot his name). Great bus! Great bars! Great history! I just can’t figure out why we needed to get on in Detroit, drive to Ferndale to pick up four people, then drive back to Detroit to finally hit the first bar an hour after the tour started. ??? Five stars otherwise!

Lisa – October 27, 2019

We had a great time Friday on our private Drunks of Antiquity tour to celebrate a milestone birthday with the fabulous Monique as our guide, and the kind Charlie Brown (Larry) as our driver. Great insight into history, great bar stops, lots of fun. And love the Ride for Ride mission that helps children get to school safely. Members of our group will be back for another ride!

Portland, Oregon is considered by many to be America's epicenter of craft beer, and the Brewvana Beer Bus offers proof. Taking its moniker from the city’s self-proclaimed nickname, Brewvana is an all-inclusive three-hour trip that visits both long-established breweries (Widmer Brothers) as well as newer kids on the block (StormBreaker Brewing). Customizable tours are also available; one group package lets you visit 2-5 breweries of your choice, so you can check out the fresh hop ale at Old Town Brewing, or the IPA at Breakside Brewing—both gold medal recipients at the recent Great American Beer Festival.

Boston Ames Hotel Beer Bike Tour

The only DIY adventure on this list is one as charming as it is irresistible, in a way that only Boston could deliver. Start off at Ames Boston Hotel, the city’s premiere boutique lodge, offering spacious rooms with historic views—and providing guests with free bicycles during their stay. From here it’s a flat, 10 minute pedal to the nearby Seaport District, home to Boston’s finest breweries and tasting rooms (ask the concierge for directions). Start off at Trillium, a family-run tasting room offering award-winning Fort Point Pale Ale and half a dozen more selections on draft every afternoon from Tuesday thru Saturday. Just a few blocks down the street is the Harpoon Brewery Beer Hall. More than two dozen beers on tap—including rarities only available here—are the perfect accompaniment to an array of warm pretzels, baked fresh from in-house beer grains and yeast. Overlook the harbor as you sip on their four glass samplers. Brewery tours are offered 7 days a week. Finish off the afternoon with a stop at Boston Beer Company’s hidden gem of a beer store in the neighboring Design Center. Here you’ll chose from an extensive selection of lesser-known Sam Adams bottles. Pack a few up to enjoy back in the room, after an easy, 15 minute sight-seeing cycle back to the hotel.

It’s one of three spots to which you’ll enjoy free entry and drink discounts.

Savor the famous caramelized crust at Pequod’s before sampling the Old World, Neapolitan-influenced pies at Pizzeria Serio. You'll have a choice of wine or craft beer at each of the four stops along the way. Oh, and did we mention that there's karaoke on Dough Force One?

15 Top Bars in the US, According to the Experts

Seek out world-class cocktails within the United States, from a speakeasy in D.C. to an omakase in Chicago.

Brad Japhe is a freelance journalist specializing in travel, outdoor adventure, craft mixology and gastronomy. His work appears in all major media markets across the United States. He is viewed as an expert in the beer and spirits space, frequently appearing as a host on various media platforms. He has interviewed a diverse array of talent, ranging from international superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, to Brooklyn Brewmaster Garrett Oliver. He prefers scotch to bourbon, IPAs to lagers, a premium hamburger over a prime cut of steak. His favorite breed of dog is the Siberian Husky and he suffers from an irrational, unrequited love for the New York Knicks.

Double Chicken Please

What makes a great bar? World-class cocktails are the most obvious answer, but that’s really just the start. There are hundreds, perhaps even thousands of venues assembling drinks worth trying across the U.S., and the ones taking it to the next level are adding a beautiful blend of ambiance, hospitality, and maybe even some notable pub grub into the mix.

There are some seriously vibey destinations to enjoy on the 2024 list of best domestic bars according to our panel of Global Tastemakers survey. You’ll find a lot of newcomers to admire, including a handful of venues that didn’t even exist as recently as 2021. A lot has changed in the industry since then,  and plenty of bar owners now understand the value of having signature food items to pair alongside terrific tipples. Bonus points, of course, if those pairings are pretty enough for an Instagram close-up.

Some things — like New York City’s role as the epicenter of bar culture in the U.S. — never change. The Big Apple secured all the top three spots on the list, but a wide range of regionality is to be appreciated amongst the rest of the entries. Wondrous watering holes from Old San Juan to Southern California; the nation’s capital to the capital of Texas.

Here are 15 standout bars around the country that take cocktail-making to a whole different dimension, and our plus one pick.

Superbueno (New York City)

John Shyloski

This convivial agave bar in Manhattan’s East Village has barely been open for a year and already has a reputation as an incomparable temple of tipples. “Nacho” Jimenez is the brains behind Superbueno and he’s something of a local legend, an expert at maintaining approachability while appealing to cocktail and spirits geeks. Enjoy a Mole Negroni with fat-washed mezcal or a slushy that combines tropical and Mexican flavors. It’s all reasonably priced by New York standards, with most drinks hovering around $18, especially if you arrive during the Monday to Friday happy hour from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Katana Kitten (New York City)

Highballs, Hinoki Martinis, and crinkle-cut nori fries, oh my! This playful interpretation of a traditional Japanese izakaya is always a treat to visit in Manhattan's West Village. Whether you visit Katana Kitten in the early afternoon or deep into the early morning hours, you will find a friendly waitstaff eager to serve you the simplest cocktails on draft or the most elaborate of preparations, involving crushed, deep-fried shrimp heads.

Double Chicken Please (New York City)

Double Chicken Please is actually two world-class bars in one. The front room is more of a casual affair, where over a dozen inventive drinks are piped out of a draft system. Walk through this space, and you’ll find the far more exclusive “Coop” with its collection of cocktails that represent foods like cold pizza, key lime pie, or even a Waldorf Salad. Whatever you order, you’re going to come away with something quite unlike anything you’ve ever tasted before. And you’re going to want to pair it alongside one of the best fried chicken sandwiches in all of New York.

Allegory (Washington, D.C.)

Creative director Deke Dunne has conceived a veritable wonderland hidden behind an unmarked door within the Eaton Hotel. The dimly lit, brooding interior contrasts with the brilliance of the cocktails coming together behind the stick. The cocktails are broken down in exhaustive detail throughout the menu. You can even read the ABV of each. Allegory bills itself as the “first bar to blend art, literature, social good, craft cocktails, and hospitality.” Inside, you’ll marvel at larger-than-life murals, imaginatively depicting the story of Ruby Bridges, the first Black child to attend an all-white public elementary school during the Civil Rights Movement.

Café La Trova (Miami)

Ranieri Cassuola

Trova is a style of acoustic music traditional to Cuba, but this vibrant cafe is nothing short of electric. It boasts a retro atmosphere that makes you feel almost as if you flew into Havana in the 1950s. Julio Cabrera and his talented team of tastemakers will whip you up one of the finest Mojitos or Daiquiris you’ve ever tried. Afterwards, you can navigate through iconic dishes crafted by James Beard Award-winning chef Michelle Bernstein.

Jewel of the South (New Orleans)

Jewel of the South

The modern reimagining of a classic 19th-century New Orleans tavern, Jewel of the South is everything you want from the Big Easy under one roof. Cocktails shift with the seasons but are always bold and boozy. There are also plenty of immovable classics to enjoy, like a French 75 or Sazerac dialed up to a compelling degree of excellence. Plus, you'll find the most expansive caviar menu in town.

Chez Zou (New York City)

Teddy Wolff

Hot nightlife and cool tropical flavors collide in this sleek lounge located just steps away from New York City’s Penn Station. Highlights include a Gibson fashioned with saffron-infused vermouth; a milk punch designed to taste like actual cheesecake; and a Fresh Prince colada, made with white rum, dill, cucumber, yogurt, and aloe. There’s nary a dull preparation on the whimsical menu at Chez Zou .

Martiny's (New York City)

Todd Coleman

Tokyo expat Takuma Watanabe fills up this three-story space with so much well-worn style and grace that it’s difficult to imagine it’s only been around for two years. You’ll want to order a Martini at Martiny's , but don’t pass up the matcha-infused Japanese whisky preparation.

Kumiko (Chicago)

This elegant bar has quickly become an anchor of Chicago’s formidable craft cocktail scene. Owner Julia Momosé uses both ingredients as well as techniques from Japan and weaves them seamlessly into a lengthy list of drinks that are often best experienced in omakase form. Be sure to book Kumiko reservations well in advance; this is one of the most sought-after seats in town.

La Factoria (San Juan, Puerto Rico)

La Factoria

La Factoria is the stuff of legends. It has existed as Puerto Rico’s ultimate drinks destination for more than a decade and helped pioneer the craft cocktail movement throughout Latin America. But the team hasn’t been resting on their laurels. Walk into this well-worn lounge on any given evening and you’ll be greeted by fun riffs on Daiquiris, Coladas, and more — all washed down with live entertainment nightly.

Julep (Houston, Texas)

At Julep , the cocktails rely on less-commonly found ingredients like marigold leaves and baked apples. The drinks are served with artful garnishes and priced for repeated consumption.

The Violet Hour (Chicago)

Kelly Sandos

Wicker Park’s original craft cocktail destination is still going strong after more than 15 years in the spotlight. Enter the polished interior through unmarked curtains and savor the Prohibition-era vibes. The Violet Hour's signature offerings are divided between shaken, stirred, and punch sections of the menu. The Fernet and rum-based Goof Juice is a favorite from the Shaken section; Bbwatdhy is a standout Stirred selection, made with dry sherry and a Nill-wafer infused bourbon.

Young Blood (San Diego)

Shannon Partrick

The most exclusive bar in San Diego is like a speakeasy within a speakeasy. You have to secure Young Blood reservations weeks in advance because there are only a handful of seats, and it’s well worth the effort once you’re seated in front of the stick, pouring out your dreams and desires to an attentive mixologist. They will respond, in turn, by whipping up a bespoke drink befitting your mood.

Andra Hem (Philadelphia)

Jason Varney

Andra Hem is a proper drinks lounge, pure and simple. The aesthetic is clean yet warm; formal yet approachable. The Lambhattan is a curious standout take on the classic American whiskey drink spiced up with lamb-washed bourbon. It sounds bizarre, yet works oh so well.

After (Chicago)

Michael Muser

Is it a chic dinner lounge or an elevated cocktail parlor? The answer is yes. After is the companion space to chef Curtis Duffy’s Michelin-starred restaurant, Ever. It’s the ideal atmosphere in which to sip an ice-cold Martini with caviar, but if you’re not feeling the classics, steer toward “food-inspired cocktails” such as the Garden of Gin, which jazzes up a Japanese expression of the namesake spirit with red onions and pickled tomatoes — an umami delight.

Plus One: WaterTrade (Austin, Texas)

Chad Wadsworth

WaterTrade is widely revered among Austin’s cocktail cognoscenti, and the Texas watering hole has garnered global significance. The intimate, Japanese-inspired tachinomi (Japanese-style standing bar) is adjacent to Otoko, one of the city’s premiere omakase destinations, and shares the same ownership. Like its neighbor, it offers up a transcendent tasting menu. Only here, of course, it’s all presented in liquid form.

Don't think, just book it!

My family had the best time on this tour with our guide, Mario! He was so much fun & super knowledgable about all things Rome. As a local, he had a unique perspective on the city and insights to all the hidden gems of Rome. It was clear Mario and his team had but a lot of thought into the cocktail tour, between the bars we stopped in & the historic sites we saw along the way. We were ready to add Mario to our family by the end of the tour -- don't think, just book this tour!!!

Tasty way to see the city at night!

My husband and I so enjoyed our evening eating and drinking and learning about life in Rome with our guide Mario. We didn’t realize it was a private tour which was really awesome. We didn’t just have great drinks, we had amazing food at two of the stops and Mario was so informative with tidbits of history, restaurants we should try during our holiday and what growing up in Rome was like. It was a great tour especially at the start of our trip to get acquainted with the area and find spots to go back to.

Drinking around Hollywood Studios (best bars, unique drinks, and more!)

By: Author Allyson Koerner

Published: August 21, 2023 Updated: August 21, 2023

Drinking around Hollywood Studios (best bars, unique drinks, and more!)

Let’s go drinking around the world — nope, just kidding. It’s time to spike things up and go drinking around Hollywood Studios !

Drinking around the World Showcase at Epcot has become a popular activity for those 21 and older when visiting Walt Disney World. We’ve even done it ourselves . But, Hollywood Studios is just as fun to drink around. There are so many places to grab tasty beverages, including delicious beer and specialty cocktails.

On Sunday, August 13, 2023, Felicia and I headed to Hollywood Studios to drink around the park. We hit up each land and tried many alcoholic delicacies along the way.

While we didn’t drink at every location (that just wouldn’t be smart or affordable) during this particular visit, we handpicked locations that we’ve never done before, felt were favorites, and offered unique options.

We mainly focused on bars and lounges, with a few exceptions. We also didn’t book any Table Service restaurants, but know you can order alcohol at each.

kahlua and bailey's milkshake at dockside diner in hollywood studios

Surprisingly, we didn’t visit Oga’s Cantina this trip because we’ve already done it so many times and wanted to try different options. Don’t get us wrong, Oga’s Cantina is fun. We suggest everyone try it at least once, even if you’re not a Star Wars fan. We just wanted to step outside of our drinking box and add some other stops that we don’t normally try at Hollywood Studios.

If Oga’s Cantina is a priority, we recommend making reservations immediately . You can also join the walk-up list, but reservations are usually your best bet.

Oga’s tip : try the Fuzzy Tauntaun! Your lips won’t know what’s happening, but, don’t worry, it’s tasty.

fuzzy tauntaun at oga's cantina

We also didn’t go to your typical Quick Service dining locations. Typically, most Quick Service places at Hollywood Studios offer standard beer and pre-mixed cocktails. These spots don’t really serve anything fancy, which is why we “ignored” them. But know that you can order an alcoholic drink with your Quick Service lunch or dinner.

Below are the 11 places we purchased alcohol on our drinking tour around Hollywood Studios, along with mentions of other locations where you can find libations at the park.

Keep in mind that menus change, along with pricing, but here’s what we were able to enjoy on August 13, 2023 from start to finish!

Drink Stop #1: Hollywood Scoops

hollywood scoops at hollywood studios

  • Location : Sunset Boulevard
  • Mobile Order : No

If you want to start your Hollywood Studios day with a beverage, might we recommend heading to Hollywood Scoops to enjoy a mimosa?

That’s right, at the popular ice cream stand you can purchase this breakfast/brunch cocktail — but only between 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

hollywood scoops menu

There is one choice of mimosa — orange juice with some type of Prosecco. This was the perfect mix of orange juice with bubbles.

We like more champagne than juice and Hollywood Scoops did it right.

mimosa at hollywood scoops in hollywood studios

It’s also nothing fancy. I mean, it costs $14.50 (without tax) and $15.40 (with tax), which is a lot of money for a simple mimosa that you can simply make at home.

But, if you don’t mind spending a little extra to enjoy a glass of bubbly (with juice) in front of Tower of Terror in the morning, you won’t see us judging you.

Drink Stop #2: Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge

hollywood brown derby lounge at hollywood studios

  • Location : Hollywood Boulevard
  • Reservations : No (join walk-up list in the My Disney Experience app or in person)

The Hollywood Brown Derby Lounge is a small outdoor lounge attached to the Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant.

Both get busy and are beloved for good reason. Not only can you order from the full restaurant menu at the lounge (Famous Cobb Salads all around!), but you can also enjoy some cocktails while you sit and people watch.

hollywood brown derby lounge tables and chairs

There is also a walk-up bar that you can order drinks to-go if a table isn’t available at the lounge, the wait is too long, or you’d rather walk around the park with a beverage.

hollywood brown derby lounge cocktail menu

We ordered the margarita flight, which costs $17.50. You can also order each flavor individually ($15.50 per glass). The flight is the better deal — and tastes amazing.

hollywood brown derby lounge margarita flight

The flight comes with: a Classic Margarita, a Blood Orange Margarita, and a Pomegranate Margarita. All are really good, but the Blood Orange was our favorite!

Drink Stop #3: Anaheim Produce

anaheim produce at hollywood studios

Anaheim Produce might not sound like a place you can order alcohol, but you can (in addition to snacks, including produce).

menu at anaheim produce

Here, you’ll find a variety of canned beverages, like beer, cider, and seltzers. There are also several frozen cocktails.

From a margarita, to a piña colada, to a frozen Coca-Cola (spiked with your choice of rum or whiskey), there’s a decent variety here. Plus, there usually isn’t too long of a line.

beers, cider, and seltzers at anaheim produce

As you can see below, we ordered the seasonal Mango Piña Colada with Cruzan Mango Rum, Mango Smoothie, and Piña Colada.

mango pina colada at anaheim produce

While a piña colada isn’t anything fancy, it was good and a nice size for $13.50. It also tasted pretty fantastic during the high temperatures we experienced during this trip.

Drink Stop #4: Sunshine Day Bar

sunshine day bar at hollywood studios

Sunshine Day Bar is always a must when walking down Sunset Boulevard. It has a full bar, a variety of beer, and a list of specialty cocktails to choose from.

sunshine day bar menu

We decided to try the Southside Fizz. It looked like a nice and refreshing option for all of the sweat our bodies were releasing (TMI?).

The drink costs $15.50 and features Hendrick’s Gin, Pure Cane Sugar, and Lemon Juice topped with Soda Water.

southside fizz at sunshine day bar

Admittedly, this wasn’t our favorite. We aren’t huge gin people and that’s really all you could taste. Once the ice started to melt, it watered down the drink making it a bit more drinkable.

But, if you’re a gin person, this is probably a good choice for you.

Drink Stop #5: Peevy’s Polar Pipeline

peevy's polar pipeline at hollywood studios

  • Location : Echo Lake
  • Menu (not posted online or in the My Disney Experience app)

Peevy’s Polar Pipeline is a small stand that’s somewhat hidden in Echo Lake. You can find it behind Keystone Clothiers and near Hollywood & Vine .

menu of frozen concoctions at peevy's polar pipeline

Both non-alcoholic and alcoholic frozen Coca-Cola beverages are served here.

The Blue Raspberry, Wild Cherry, or Minute Maid Lemonade can be made with a shot of Bacardi Superior Rum or Tito’s Handmade Vodka.

frozen coke with whiskey at peevy's polar pipeline

Or, you can get a frozen Coke with Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, which is what we got for $14.50.

This was more up Felicia’s alley, since she likes whiskey. Myself? Eh, not so much, but I can recognize why many would enjoy it.

Drink Stop #6: Dockside Diner

dockside diner at hollywood studios

  • Mobile Order : Yes

Who wants a chocolate or vanilla milkshake with Kahlúa and Baileys? Well, for a steep $17.50 you can get exactly that at Dockside Diner.

I’m just going to say it — don’t order this . It’s overpriced, melts way too fast in the heat, and all of the alcohol settles at the bottom making it extremely hard to get a good taste/bite of the milkshake and alcohol at the same time.

kahlua and bailey's milkshake at dockside diner

We’re not sure why they don’t make this a floater, which makes way more sense. It’s basically chocolate ice cream on top of shots of Kahlúa and Baileys.

I literally choked trying to drink this because all of the alcohol came through the straw at once. Felicia can attest that it took me a couple minutes to stop coughing.

dockside diner menu

Dockside Diner also serves beer, a margarita, and a spiked frozen lemonade.

Drink Stop #7: Tune-In Lounge

tune-in lounge at hollywood studios

  • Reservations : No

The Tune-In Lounge is a bar attached to the 50’s Prime Time Café. This space also serves as the waiting area for those who have reservations at the restaurant.

But, anyone can walk in and order a drink. You don’t need to join a walk-up list or make reservations for the lounge. If you’re lucky, you might even score a seat. You can also stand at the bar or take to-go drinks.

tune-in lounge bar

There are lots of choices, including a full bar, beer, wine, and specialty cocktails. Our favorite? The “Loaded” Schöfferhofer Grapefruit Hefeweizen.

tune-in lounge wine and beer menu

This is the famous Schöfferhofer Grapefruit Hefeweizen that is “loaded” with a shot of Deep Eddy Ruby Red Grapefruit Vodka for $12.75.

loaded schofferhofer grapefruit hefeweizen at tune-in lounge

Admittedly, I don’t like the Schöfferhofer Grapefruit Hefeweizen. But, the beer is somehow completely transformed with a shot of ruby red grapefruit vodka. It just tastes so much better and is absolutely delicious.

Drink Stop #8: Oasis Canteen

oasis canteen at hollywood studios

Near the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular you can find Oasis Canteen. Like many other spots at the park, this is a full bar that also serves specialty drinks.

oasis canteen menu

We went with the Frozen Rum Runner for $14.50. We’ve never had a Rum Runner frozen, so this was a really great choice! We both loved it.

It features Don Q Rum, Bols Crème de Banana Liqueur, Bols Blackberry Liqueur, Grenadine, and Orange and Pineapple Juice.

frozen rum runner at hollywood studios

This was a decent size, not too sweet, and embodied lovely tropical flavors. We definitely recommend trying this!

Drink Stop #9: BaseLine Tap House

baseline tap house at hollywood studios

  • Location : Grand Avenue

Welcome to BaseLine Tap House, aka our home away from home at Hollywood Studios. We love it here so much, especially the playlist . It’s one of the best places to grab a drink and a snack at the entire park.

baseline tap house drink menu

So, of course we had to stop here as we drank around Hollywood Studios. The tap house is known for California beers, but there is also a full bar, ciders, and some specialty cocktails served.

Beer flights are an option, as well.

sierra nevada hazy little thing at baseline tap house

We, of course, got a beer. We ordered the 22 oz. Sierra Nevada Hazy Little Thing IPA.

If you don’t want the 22 oz., you can order a 16 oz., but what fun is that? Just kidding, but a 22 oz. is only $11, whereas a 16 oz. is $9.75.

Drink Stop #10: Docking Bay 7 Food & Cargo

docking bay 7 food and cargo seating area

  • Location : Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

Inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge , we think Docking Bay 7 Food & Cargo is a top dining option. The food is really, really good for a Quick Service spot.

But, if you want a place to rest your feet and sip on a cold beverage, you can do that here, too!

counter at docking bay

Out of the small alcoholic drink menu, we decided to try the Surly Sarlacc (which you can also purchase at Ronto Roasters ) for $14.50.

It has Ketel One Botanical Grapefruit and Rose Vodka, Minute Maid Limeade, Raspberry, and Spicy Mango Flavors.

surly sarlacc at docking bay 7 food and cargo

The “spicy mango flavors” didn’t really come through, but the grapefruit did. If you’re not a fan of grapefruit, you might want to avoid.

We both thought it was refreshing and flavorful, without being overly sweet. We also loved being able to sit inside at Docking Bay to escape the heat.

Drink Stop #11: Woody’s Lunch Box

woody's lunch box at hollywood studios

  • Location : Toy Story Land

Woody’s Lunch Box is one of the top Quick Service locations at Hollywood Studios — and for good reason.

It’s perfectly themed, is located in an extremely popular land, and features delicious food. But, we came here for the Grown-Up’s Lemonade.

woody's lunch box menu

For $13.50, you can order the adult-friendly cocktail that comes with Cherry Vodka, Minute Maid Premium Lemonade, and Black Cherry Purée.

This definitely isn’t for everyone and can be on the sweeter side. There’s a lot of cherry flavor happening, so if that’s not your thing, you probably shouldn’t order.

grown-ups lemonade at woody's lunch box

But, overall, it’s a fine alcoholic beverage that pairs well with Woody’s Lunch Box’s famous “Totchos” (both regular and plant-based).

Other locations to find alcohol in Hollywood Studios

In addition to different carts stationed around the park that sell your standard beer and seltzer, here are other Quick Service spots you can find alcoholic beverages at Hollywood Studios.

Hollywood Boulevard

bar cart near hollywood brown derby and outside animation courtyard

  • Animation Bar (right outside Animation Courtyard and next to Hollywood Brown Derby): wine, beer, specialty cocktails

Sunset Boulevard

rosie's all-american cafe at hollywood studios

  • Catalina Eddie’s : beer, cider, Opici Family Selection Red Sangri, Frozen Rum Berry Lemonade
  • Rosie’s All American Cafe : beer, specialty cocktails, sangria
  • Fairfax Fare : variety of beer (not just Bud Light)
  • KRNR The Rock Station : beer, seltzer, spiked frozen Coca-Cola or lemonade

Taste of the Masters: Bringing Augusta National's food experience to patrons at home

Change Text Size

From start to finish, the Masters Tournament has an identity all its own. Whether it’s the drive up Magnolia Lane or the green jacket donned by the victor, the Masters is known for a multitude of things: azaleas in full bloom in early spring, Rae’s Creek, Butler Cabin and the quintessential selection of food and drinks enjoyed exclusively by patrons in attendance. Or rather, that used to be the case.

Insert "Taste of the Masters," a food and beverage initiative spearheaded by Augusta National in 2020 when the tournament took place at a non-traditional time, in November, with no patrons on-site due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The pandemic challenged the sports and entertainment industry to adjust and adapt, and the Masters was no different. It began with a simple question from the team at Augusta National: What are some ways to help bring the experience to fans and make this a memorable tournament?

Aside from opening an online patron shop that allowed ticketed patrons to purchase Masters merchandise from home (the Masters only sells official Masters merchandise on the grounds at Augusta National), the team also came up with the idea of selling Masters food and drink kits to those ticketed patrons, which they dubbed "Taste of the Masters."

The club and hospitality team spearheaded this initiative by identifying the items that represented the Masters best. Without hesitation, the answer was obvious: pimento cheese.

There may be no other concession item in sports that holds the weight or reputation of Augusta National’s pimento cheese sandwiches. With the perfect amount of spice paired with cheesy creaminess and jammed between two pieces of fresh white bread, the pimento cheese sandwich has been a staple on the menu board at Augusta since the 1950s.

Beyond pimento cheese, the team knew they needed to fill the kits with other options to satisfy the appetites of all who planned to enjoy the meals from home. Pork bar-b-que and egg salad were added as entree options, as were sides including Augusta’s signature chocolate chip cookies and potato chips.

When tasked with the challenge of replicating the on-site experience, however, a final few pieces were vital. While the food offerings satisfied the taste aspect, to really give it that Masters feel they added authentic plastic Masters cups and sheets of the iconic Masters checkerboard serving paper.

The "Taste of the Masters" was such a hit that the team brought it back for the 2021 Masters, which featured partial patron attendance. The kits were now available to everyone, not just ticketed patrons, and sold out even faster.

And that was a wrap on the kits, or so the team thought.

The kits were discontinued in 2022, as patrons on-site could once again enjoy the full offerings while strolling the grounds. But overwhelming fan feedback suggested that the kits were missed.

The team was not expecting "Taste of the Masters" to become a fan staple, but as folks expressed how important it was to have the kits, using them to create or enhance their traditions around watching the tournament together, it became clear it had. Augusta National recognized the opportunity for people to recreate the patron experience at home, and so, "Taste of the Masters" returned in 2023.

For 2024, the Augusta National team continued to look at ways to evolve and perfect the project. One enhancement for this year: Fans have had a say in what's included thanks to their feedback. Bar-b-que potato chips, Georgia pecan caramel popcorn and Masters coasters are included in the kit, with the popcorn’s inclusion a direct result of fan feedback. The team even added a smaller tasting kit as an option this year, also a direct result of fan feedback, which also includes fun accessories like food item placards and miniature Masters flag toothpicks to hold sandwiches together.

For Augusta National, the kits are yet another opportunity to go above and beyond for fans across the country while also paying homage to the tournament's roots in Augusta, Georgia. The food and beverage experience is part of Masters history, which started with the vision of Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts, who believed that food was key to the Masters’ evolution as an elite sporting experience for patrons. The two tournament pioneers wanted the menu to reflect a southern-style picnic, with sandwiches as an easy option that locals could create in their homes and bring to the course for the patrons.

The menu has come a long way since the Masters inception in 1934, with the Taste of the Masters as simply the next step in its evolution. What originally started as an almost regional, exclusive offering for ticketed fans in 2020 has now grown to a nationwide fan favorite in households across the country. As for whether the Masters pimento cheese sandwich has made its way to all 50 states, it’s hard to say, but 2024 is the first year where shipping to Alaska and Hawaii is available. And why stop there? Fan interest north of the border suggests that "Taste of the Masters" could be headed to Canada as well.

While nothing is guaranteed, "Taste of the Masters" looks to be around for the long haul.
