The Ultimate Guide: How to Plan a Group Ski Trip

In This Guide

What is a Group Ski Trip and Who Goes on Them

Ski travel terminology.

  • When To Start Planning and Booking
  • How To Pick a Ski Resort

Travel Considerations: Flights and Ground Transportation

  • Tips on Itinerary Planning
  • Selecting a Travel Agency

Communicating With Your Group

  • Collecting Payments From Group Members
  • Safety Tips

So what’s stopping you?

Oh maybe it’s the crazy amount of planning or organizing required to make the trip a success. Yeah, that can be pretty intimidating.

Group ski trips allow any group to get away for a few days and enjoy beautiful ski resorts together. Trips like these almost always result in a greater level of bonding between group members as each person creates lasting memories and experiences with one another.

Groups of all kinds can go on a ski trip, but common skiers include:

  • Youth Ministries
  • Church Groups (Men, Women, Families, Bible Studies)
  • College Fraternities or Sororities
  • Colleagues or Coworkers
  • Big Families

There’s really no rule on how big or small the group has to be, although groups of 20 or more can usually unlock some great wholesale pricing.

Benefits of a Group Ski Trip

Different groups utilize ski trips for different things, but the experience always brings friends, family, or team members together.

Ski resorts offer groups a unique opportunity to bond with one another. The wide-ranging accommodations make it easy to meet the wants and needs of various people. Plus there’s just something special about being out in nature, experiencing something you don’t get to do very often.

Life creates demands and difficulties for people of all ages. Ski trips offer the kind of break everyone needs from the troubles of normal life.

If you’ve never planned a group ski trip before, you might need a bit of help ironing out the terminology. Here’s a quick list of some of the most common words and phrases with a simple description.

Lodging is the term group travel agencies use for where your group will stay for the duration of the trip. This could include condominiums at the base of the mountain, houses and cabins across town, and traditional hotels. Pricing for lodging is primarily driven by distance from the slopes, but, of course, will be impacted by the number of beds, type of finishes and amenities.

Lift Tickets

Ski lifts get you on the slopes and you need tickets to get on them. Many resorts now use automatic RFID keycards while some still have attendants scanning barcodes.

Rental Equipment

Skis, poles, snowboards and boots. This equipment is very costly to purchase and since most people only go on one or two trips a year it makes more sense just to rent. Even if you have some equipment at home, transporting this stuff is a huge pain! When renting you just pick it up on your first day of skiing and turn it in on your last.

For more on what to bring on your trip, check out our ski trip packing list.

When to Start Planning and Booking

The majority of group ski trips in Colorado take place between December and March. There’s a certain weather quality that makes this a pretty natural conclusion. (It’s snow)

But this doesn’t mean you should wait to book your trip until you’re unpacking your winter clothes.

Most group leaders begin planning their trips in the summer to make sure they give themselves plenty of time to organize their group, gather the necessary payments, and ensure they have the best rates possible. Typically, the further ahead you plan, the cheaper the trip will be, though we know one group travel agency can get you a good deal no matter when you book.

Lastly, the most common and best value trip is usually one that stays for 3 nights and 4 days. Add your travel time to this to get your total trip time. Shorter or longer stays are still possible, depending on availability.

How to Pick a Ski Resort

Most resorts in Colorado are well run and have a lot to offer. Finding out which resort to go to is kind of like if someone asked you what 5 star steakhouse you want to eat at: you’re not going to make a wrong choice. However, there are a few things to consider to find a great fit for your group.

The Mountain

Look at skiable acres, number of runs and number of lifts. This can really help you get some perspective on the size differences between resorts. Higher quantity acreage, lifts and runs does not always mean higher quality but it is something to consider. See how they compare.

Lodging Options

When it comes to lodging you’ll want to think about proximity to base. “Ski in/Ski Out” means you’ll be within walking distance to the lifts. These are the priciest options by far but provide added convenience. The further out you go from the base the less expensive things will get. Large groups often have unique needs (i.e. meeting space, many rooms, etc) and some lodgings are better suited than others. Also most resort towns have great public shuttle systems that can transport thousands of skiers like a well oiled machine.

Location and Travel Time

Travel time to the resort is a big consideration because time off from work or school is usually in rare supply. We talk more about travel options later but for now, just keep in mind that travel costs (and time) is a big factor. A cheap resort in a distant location or a high end resort in a convenient location can come out to be similar in total cost when you factor in travel. If you’re flying to Denver, check out this chart to see how far each resort is from the airport.

An experienced ski travel agency can take all of these things into consideration and find the best value resort for your group’s specific needs.

Additional Activities Offered at Resorts

Got people in the group who don’t love the slopes? No problem. Most resorts offer tons of activities on and off the slopes. As a group leader you can help set up activities for your group or go a simpler route and let them handle it if they have the desire. Here are some examples of what you can find around most resorts.

  • Ice Skating
  • Snowcat Tours
  • Snowmobiling
  • Snowshoeing
  • Hot Springs
  • Sleigh Rides
  • Dog Sled Tours
  • Guided Ski Tours
  • Cross Country Skiing
  • Horseback Riding
  • Night Skiing

One of the most complicated parts of a group ski trip is actually getting to your destination. Most resorts make it easy to get around once you arrive, but the trip can be a challenge. We’ll help you sort through all that!

You have three options to consider:

Driving Yourself

  • Charter Bus

Many families and smaller groups prefer the option of driving themselves because it’s often the most economical. Especially if you have access to a van or bus already.  The flexibility of having your own vehicle once out in Colorado is nice, too.

One thing to consider if you are driving yourself is stopping along the way. If your drive is long, you may want to stay overnight as you are driving to Colorado. Picking a place that is a little more than half way allows you to have an easier second day. Most lodgings have check-ins similar to hotels, which is around 4pm.

Driving your own group can be cost effective and pretty flexible, but it can be difficult to fit everyone and all their luggage. It can also be hard on your driver who has to stay alert for a variety of mountain and wintery conditions.

Charter Buses

A charter bus is a huge bus that will take your group all the way from your city of origin to your resort. Charter bus companies utilize professional drivers with training and experience.

These buses also offer a high level of reliability, safety and comfort on the road. They are spacious and often have a bathroom on board. They can be especially nice if your group is driving overnight. They have room for luggage beneath the main area and overhead storage like an airplane.

Unfortunately, benefits like these do come at a pretty hefty cost. Plus, compared to flying, taking a charter bus or driving yourself can add to your total trip time which means more time off from work or school.

 Air Travel

Flying can be the right option for your group based on certain trip details.

Flying into a city like Denver and getting an airport shuttle bus may actually be more cost effective depending on your group size. Your total trip time could be a day or more shorter than driving, which can be a big cost saver.

Some travel agencies can even arrange your airport shuttle to take you to your resort. What we’re calling an “airport shuttle bus” is essentially a big charter bus, but just going to and from the airport.

The viability of flying also depends on which resort you have decided on. For example – if you are skiing Winter Park, Keystone, or Breckenridge, then flying into Denver makes sense. However, if you are skiing Crested Butte, you’ll want to fly into Gunnison airport. There are fewer flights each day to the smaller airports and more expensive, but since it is so much closer to the resort, you will save on ground travel in the end.

Airfare fluctuates greatly depending on the time of year. Airfare might be too high for your group if traveling during holidays, but if you are a group that is skiing during less busy dates, then you might find that flying not only saves you time but also money.

What About Getting Around at the Resort?

Most resorts have a free public shuttle bus system, so groups that have arrived on a bus or plane can still get around freely at their resort.

Telling your group travel agency your wants while deciding on the lodging location can help them direct you to locations that can accommodate for a lack of transportation at the resort.

Staying at the base, while the priciest option, will be the easiest since skiing, shopping, and restaurants will be within steps. A lot of options away from the base are still quite convenient, though, because of free shuttle access and can save on cost.

Tips for Itinerary Planning

Charter busses.

Charter buses seat around 50 passengers. They can drive overnight and usually have a bathroom on board. These can be great if your group is the right size but just be sure to compare all your options – driving yourself, charter busses, and flying.

Airport Pickup & Dropoff

If you fly into Denver you’ll need to think about transportation from the airport to the resort and back again. If you take an airport shuttle to the resort, pickup time should be determined after all flights are booked.

Check In & Check Out

Check in is usually at 4:00pm and checkout at 10:00am (mountain time). To prevent showing up too early at check in you might stop for lunch on the way. Showing up late to check-in is no problem.

There will be plenty of dining options on and off the mountain but this can get expensive if you’re eating out for every meal. Consider stopping at a grocery store in Denver to stock up for your week. You can focus just on breakfast and lunch, then plan to eat out at night. Or if you have a chef in the group, by all means, plan for dinner too!  With the exception of some hotels, most condos/cabins have kitchens.

Rental Pickup & Dropoff

Most resorts like big groups to all be fitted for rentals at the same time. You’ll be given your fitting times before arrival. Your fitting will be on your first day of skiing. Rentals must be turned in on your last ski day, by the end of the day.

Selecting a Ski Travel Agency

Have you ever tried to plan a ski trip for 20 or 30 people? Keeping up with names, rentals, logistics and countless other details can be a mess, even for the most experienced leaders. Because of the complexities of group ski trips, even the resorts don’t offer much support in this area.

Group ski trips are epic and so worth it! But we would not recommend going it alone.

That’s why groups turn to travel agencies. Agencies have established relationships and systems that make your trip as seamless as possible. Nailing down the right agency for you can feel a bit challenging, but here are a few simple questions to help you get started.

Do They Specialize in Group Travel?

Not every ski trip is a group trip, and some agencies focus most of their efforts on couples and small families. They might take on larger groups occasionally, but they don’t have the expertise that an agency specializing in groups would have.

How Long Have They Been Doing This?

Experience isn’t everything, but it sure does help. An agency that has worked with the same resorts or locations for 20+ years will know the best recommendations, tips, and tricks to ensure you have an excellent time.

What’s Included in the Package Price?

The bottom line is group travel done right should save your group time and money. The more people coming, the better deals you can get, and the top travel agencies can help you get access to wholesale pricing. Make sure you compare apples to apples in terms of what’s included and how much time you have to spend planning.

What Kind of Support Do They Offer?

Agencies make your life easier. That’s literally their entire job, so you want to make sure you choose one that will actually help alleviate your burdens. Top agencies should offer itinerary guidance, planning tips, and even a dedicated staff and website to help you manage your trip with sign-up pages, payment portals, and other features.

Finding the right group travel agency will reduce the burden of planning your trip. That means time you would have spent researching, standing in line, and sorting through everything can now be enjoyed on the slopes. Money you would have spent booking somewhere else can now be used in the pro shop (or the coffee shop? you know who you are).

Announcing, communicating and marketing your trip are critical if you want to gather the most amount of people possible. There are a few simple marketing tools you can easily apply to make your communication stand out a little bit.

As a rule of thumb, it’s much better to over-communicate than under-communicate when trying to reach a large number of people.

Use Email Templates

Wording is everything for gathering a group of people together. You want to make sure you communicate all the necessary information with the least amount of words while sparking the most amount of interest. It’s a pretty daunting task, actually.

You’ll probably want to send emails on at least three occasions:

  • Announce the trip and request registration
  • Reminders as the registration deadline approaches
  • Inform registrants of the itinerary and expectations

Spend some time on crafting your emails instead of just whipping ‘em up and sending ‘em out. Go back and check to make sure you covered everything.

You can also use our free email templates that outline every piece of information for these three occasions. All you have to do is fill in the specific information for your trip. Download the email templates here .

Image Assets

Posting some pictures with your email or social media announcements is very effective and highly recommended. Grab some photos of past trips if you’ve done them, or you can use sites like Unsplash to download free stock photos. A quick search for “ski” on Unsplash pulls up plenty of good options!

Graphic Design

Another powerful tool for marketing and announcing your trip comes with some simple graphic design. Text overlays on images are great, but simple well done graphics without images can do just as good.

Don’t freak out here. Even if you’re not a designer, or if you don’t have one on your team, you can easily make simple announcements using design templates from sites like Canva . The free service is incredibly easy to use, and a good design can go a long way, especially if you’re planning a youth group ski trip.

Collecting Payment

This is undoubtedly the least fun part of the trip-planning process, but it is absolutely necessary. Group leaders are responsible for collecting payment from each group member. Then, the leader will pay the agency in one payment or installments.

You can ask your group for one payment or allow them to pay you in installments. Either way, it’s a good idea to remind them early and often.

Here are 4 easy tools for payment collection. There’s not a significant difference between each one, so it comes down to the group leader’s preference. We’d recommend giving your group only one option, so you don’t have to keep track of multiple accounts.

Generally, these apps wont charge fees between family and friends. However, these are third party services so read their fine print before committing to one.

Safety Tips on the Trip

Group ski trips of any kind have the potential for danger, and it’s important to keep your people as safe as possible. We’ve listed a few common safety tips for skiers of all ages.

Be Aware of Slope Etiquette

The slopes are full of beginners and advanced skiers, and that mix doesn’t always go well. New skiers should get a basic understanding of slope etiquette before venturing out.

Find a Buddy

No one should ever ski alone. Not only is skiing in groups more fun, but if you get into a sticky situation having a friend around can be a life saver.

Stay Hydrated

Everyone in the group should drink plenty of water. The altitude alone can mess with people’s systems, and adding the strenuous activity of skiing into it only makes it more challenging. You should hydrate before, during and after a long day of skiing.

Don’t Overdo It

Skiing and snowboarding are technically extreme sports. That’s why lessons are such a good idea . Lesson or not, get your snow legs figured out before jumping into blues and blacks. You can get hurt or worse – you might end up walking down the mountain!

Well Worth the Effort

If you made it this far in the guide you’re going to do great! We know this can all sound like a lot, but it’s all worth the effort. Your group ski trip will be something everyone remembers and cherishes for a long time.

Working through a travel agency makes all this even easier, and Ski Daddy has been helping groups like yours plan, coordinate, and organize amazing group ski vacations for over 20 years.

Advice for Group leaders

Numbers >> confirm who’s coming.

When the idea is first mooted in the pub, literally everyone is “definitely in”, but then inevitably some let the group down when it comes time to book.  This means the poor group leader, who has found the perfect chalet for 20, must start their search all over again for smaller digs.

Confirm who’s skiing rather than who’s just talking the talk, by asking everyone to give the group leader their deposit and commit to a date, before you start shortlisting holidays.

This lets you narrow the holiday search, avoids wasted effort, and when a great deal comes along, it can be secured straight away - without you having to chase up each person to pay, risking missing out on the deal.

Needs >> know what people want

Get a good idea of everyone’s preferences when it comes to budget, accommodation, resort and dates. Set apart the major deal-breakers (i.e. the “must-haves”) from what would be great extras (the “nice to haves”).  Crucially, you MUST ask each person in Private, what is their max budget – one of the biggest causes of failed attempts to book a group trip, is the one or two people or families who don’t’ want to publicly say they can’t afford something the rest of you want to book.

Neige >> go for a big resort

Large ski groups have varied ability, stamina and desire for ski and après, so choose resorts which are huge, and so cater to all tastes.

Large, linked ski areas such as Espace Killy and the 3 Valleys have a good amount of runs for all levels, so in a mixed ability group everybody can enjoy slopes that suit their ability.

Tignes

Photo: Tignes in the Espace Killy has the infrastructure to support large groups.

They will be likely to have plenty of good meeting points, from picnic areas to pubs and restaurants, where everyone can gather together throughout the week.

The larger resorts also have lots of activities off the slopes, for anyone who doesn’t want to ski all day, or doesn’t want to ski at all.

You’ll find greater choice of accommodation too, so there will be more chance of finding something that suits as many people’s preferences as possible.

No Under-Occupancy >> group accommodation tips

A chalet with the same number of beds as members of your group means no under-occupancy costs, and gives you the whole place to yourselves. Catered chalets help make budgeting and planning simple as breakfasts, afternoon teas and supper with wine are included in the cost.

Chalet Pierre

Chalet Pierre in Merib e l

If there’s a good chance people might want to join the party later, opt for a chalet hotel or a hotel that’s likely to still have spare rooms later down the line. The added bonus of these is that they often have facilities like bars, games rooms and swimming pools for everyone to enjoy.

For the cheapest group ski trips, look at self-catering. Big apartments can sleep 8-10 in a mix of beds, bunks and sofa beds, and you can request nearby lodgings. With everyone taking turns to clean and cook, you can share the load and keep costs low.

Notes >> gather essential information

Now for the boring part! Make sure you have the following details for each person in the group:

-      Full name as it appears on their passport -      Date of birth -      Dietary requirements -      Any extras they wish to book e.g. ski pass, equipment hire, lessons.

Make sure everyone knows they are responsible for their own travel details and safety and get them to read the FCO advice pages.

Network >> keep everyone in the loop

Forward copies of documentation and make sure everyone knows when and how to pay the deposits and balance for the holiday. Find a way to communicate with everyone on one platform, so that you can share ideas and gather feedback.

Some people opt for a round robin email, or a WhatsApp group chat.  Sno have recently added a Facebook login to their section for booking group ski holidays, this allows organisers to share shortlists for other members to view and vote on.

Advice for group members

Make your preferences known.

Make the group leader aware of: -      How much you’re willing to spend. Do a bit of research to see how much similar packages on the week your looking at usually cost. -      What you definitely want and don’t want from the ski holiday, especially when it comes to accommodation, ski resort, extras like ski hire, ski carriage and lessons. -      Your dietary requirements and any other special requests -      Your full name (as on passport) and date of birth -      What you’d prefer to have, but don’t mind going without if it doesn’t suit everyone else, there will probably have to be some compromises on each member’s part to keep the whole group happy.

Support the organiser

Give them the nod to go ahead and book if they find something that suits the group’s requirements. If they have to wait for each person to approve each and every decision, they might end up losing a good deal.

If you’re required to provide details or make payments, do it as soon as possible.

Thoroughly check your booking docs and let the leader know immediately if there are any errors or anything raises concern as changes later will cost money or might not even be possible.

Group ski holidays can be the most fun kind of travel there is – read the top tips, avoid the pitfalls and have a great time with your snow mates!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is my $1000 deposit per bus used for.

Your $1000 deposit is used to secure your booking for both the accommodation provider and the bus company. Your deposit also acts as a damage deposit against any bus or accommodation charges that may arise. We reserve the right to use this $1000 against these costs if these situations arise. Hence, make sure to communicate to your group to take good care of the hotel you are staying in and the bus you are riding on.

WILL I GET MY DEPOSIT BACK? IF SO, WHEN?

This is a Refundable Deposit! You will get your deposit back within fourteen (14) days of the completion of your group ski trip provided there are no bus or accommodation damages. Backside will endeavor to settle and reconcile your group ski trip within one calendar week of your trip's end. Why does it take fourteen (14) days? We have to follow up with our hotel and bus partners to ensure there were no damages. If we can settle up more quickly, we sure will!  Should your trip get canceled your deposit will be held and can be transferred to a future trip.  If this deposit is not used on a future trip within 18 months then, at that time you will forfeit the deposit.

WHAT IS THE EMPTY SEAT CHARGE ALL ABOUT?

We pay for each seat on the bus, moreover, we contract you to pay for the contracted amount of people in your group. Hence, we spread the cost across your group, thus, larger contracted sizes = cheaper rates. Empty seat charges are necessary if you fall short of your numbers.

WHAT IF SOMEONE BACKS OUT AND WANTS TO CANCEL THEIR TRIP?

This does happen. What we ask is that anyone who wants to cancel their group ski trip must do so through you. This way, we can ensure you know someone has backed out. When someone cancels 31 days or more from the trip date they are subject to a $50 administrative fee. However, if they choose to cancel and not find a replacement, they will NOT receive a refund at or under the 30-day mark. If a replacement can be found for the cancelled traveler there subject to a $100 administrative fee. Replacements are not accepted within 7 days of departure. We recommend to all our organizers to ensure their crew knows the above info to both protect yourself and Backside.

WHAT IF I AM HAVING A HARD TIME SELLING SPOTS ON MY TRIP? CAN I CANCEL?

Make sure to review the "How To Sell Your Group Ski Trip" page as part of this package. We want to work with you to ensure your group ski trip planning and execution is successful. The best way to make this happen is to work with your account manager and get help from those people coming on your group ski trip with you! However, if you are unable to fulfill your contractual obligations, we can cancel your group ski trip outside the 45-day mark. All of your patrons who have signed up will be moved to our Weekend Trip option on the same weekend so they still get a group ski trip. From there, they can decide to go on the allocated weekend trip, take a credit to ride with us again, or request a refund, which will result in a $100 admin fee. Your initial $1000 deposit will remain with us and will be held in trust for 18 months for you to use toward a group ski trip later in the same season or the next season. If this deposit is not used in that period, it will no longer be valid nor refundable

DOES BACKSIDE OFFER RENTALS?

Backside Tours has partners that we refer to our patrons. In Edmonton, we work with Out of Bounds Ski and Snowboard (downstairs from our office) for rentals. On Hill rental options are also available.  Backside does not coordinate these rentals but we will gladly point your patrons in the right direction to get set up. Ask your account manager for details.

WHAT ABOUT THE USE OF PULLOUT COUCHES?

Most normal hotel rooms don’t have pullout couches and normally contain two queen or double beds. In condos, however, Backside often prices the condo rooms based on max occupancy, meaning the use of pullout couches. For example, if a room has two queen beds (4 people) and a queen pullout (2 people), the room sleeps up to 6 at max occupancy. For the best prices, max occupancy is the way to go. However, if you wish to get pricing without the use of pullout couches, please ask your Backside account manager for details.

My love of travel began when I was very young. I was fortunate enough to travel throughout my childhood and I like to say that I inherited the travel bug from my parents. I took my first high school ski trip in 1996, and immediately fell in love.

Who knew that just a few short years later I would begin a career that would combine two things I was so passionate about. After 20 years in the group travel industry, there is still nothing more rewarding than turning dreams into reality.

Best tip for the perfect ski vacation: Flexibility is key now more than ever!

Like most people in the ski industry, I began my career by teaching Middle School English and History for 16 years... Kidding aside, teaching would actually end up giving me an excellent toolkit for the job I never expected to have, later in life- working with ski groups. Think of all those transferable skills...organizing large groups, running lots of projects at once, good presentation and clear communication...

When, at the halfway point in my teaching career, I had that itch, that nagging what else? I decided to take a leap and enter the business world. First, I ran my own writing, marketing and PR company, and that was great.

However, a few years into it, I stumbled on an opportunity to join the Mt Bachelor ski resort Sales Team. As a deeply passionate, long-time snowboarder, I couldn't resist. My first sales task was getting the job. Turns out a healthy dose of passion and some useful skills go a long way, and within a year and a half I was promoted. I embraced my new mission: enhancing people's lives by connecting them with amazing outdoor experiences.

After years with Mt Bachelor, I hopped the fence, moving from the ski resort side to the tour side. So now the destination can be anywhere, but the mission remains the same: connecting people with unforgettable experiences in beautiful places.

Your group's best trip is a quick phone call or email away. Let's connect!

Best tip for the perfect ski vacation:

When you find yourself in a beautiful place, in a beautiful moment...pause... Breathe it in. The more you do that, the more of those moments you'll find!

Favorite ski resort:

There are so many amazing resorts out there!

A few favorites are Mt Bachelor , the home resort-so big, surfy and playful;

Kleine Scheidegg , Swiss magic- with such varied, cool terrain, views of endless Alps, and a "night sledding" adventure you'll have to ask me about...and Big Sky and Snowbird , both steep and deep

Favorite Après ski bar:

Palisades Tahoe- Le Chamois for the locals vibe and so many dogs...

Vail- Garfinkel's for being huge, close to the gondola and great food

Mt Bachelor- tailgating in the Sky lot !

Favorite lodging property:

Banff- Well, the Fairmont is a 125-year old Castle with jaw-dropping views...

Big Sky- The Huntley is a classic. You can't beat the location and those massive, massive hot tubs right at the base of the slopes...

Vail- The Sebastian has beautiful gathering spaces, art and a great vibe close to it all.

Favorite Resort Restaurant:

Park City- Tekila Mexican Grill

Vail- Sushi Thai

Whistler- Dubh Linn Gate Irish Pub

Best ski day in memory:

Heli-skiing in Revelstoke with a crew of great riders and hitting endless pillow lines like it was a playground build just for us.

Group Coordinator

My skiing "career" began at a young age when my family would drive the 4 hours from CT to VT to hit the slopes of Okemo, Killington, and Pico. As we got a little older, the family took a trip out west to Breckenridge, CO during a winter break at school, and although the ski day lasted 2 hours, it opened my eyes to a love of big, snowy mountains and powder skiing. After attending Colorado College, I moved to Crested Butte, CO, to work at Crested Butte Ski Resort as a Group Sales Representative.

I soon moved on to teaching at the local public school, but continued to work with Sandy Gaudette in the Ski Travel Industry as a group representative. My love of the mountains doesn't stop when the snow stops falling. I love running up and down mountains and trails, and have had the opportunity to run on mountains around the world.

When I need to slow down a little, I like to hit the links, and although I have some work to do on my skills. After 15 years, I am still in Crested Butte, working in the school, as well as at The Club at Crested Butte, which is the local golf course, and loving life with my 4 year-old son.

Best tip for the perfect ski vacation: Go with a group to a place that has great snow and apres.  Favorite ski resort: This is a toughy as I love exploring different ski resorts for the varying terrain, town, and community.  Favorite Après Ski bar: Now you're asking too much, you can't really go wrong as long as they have a great Bloody Mary.  Favorite Lodging property: As long as they have a fireplace, I love them all!  Favorite Resort Restaurant: Million Dollar Cowboy in Jackson, WY Best ski day in memory: Skiing with my 4 year-old as he cheers going down the hill.

Where I live, and why:

Boulder Colorado because of its incredible natural beauty, people, and access to all the outdoor activities I love while still being a modern city with amazing music and culinary scene. Oh, and the craft beer is the best! Being within a short driving time to over 15 world-class resorts is a pretty good deal too!

Experience in the ski travel business:

I've spent over 30 years in the mountain adventure travel industry as a sales manager, guide, and Director of Sales for 3 of the best Ski Tour Wholesalers including Moguls Mountain Travel, Any Mountain Tours, Lynx Vacations , and of course, SKIGROUP.NET.

Best tip for the perfect ski vacation: Get in ski shape prior to arrival, bring the fun crew, and have an adventurous open mind.

Too many favorites-all are unique and a few include Telluride for the steeps, beauty of the Juan's & friendly local vibe, Whistler & Jackson Hole for the radical terrain, Steamboat for the friends & powder, Mary Jane@Winterpark for the bumps, Vail for its massiveness & apres ski, Beaver Creek & Deer Valley for their amazing grooming and class, Copper for its natural terrain separating expert/intermediate/beginner.

Favorite Apres ski bar:

Garfinkel's, Slopeside Grill, DustyBoot Saloon, GLC, JJ's, Gold Pan.....& back of my truck bed with good friends & craft beer after a powder day.

Limelight in Aspen, The Peaks @ Telluride, and phat ski-in/out condos from any of our quality lodging partners.

Sushi Village (Whistler), Alpenglow Stube (Keystone), Montauk Seafood Grill (Vail)

Heli-skiing north of Whistler on a bluebird powder day, face shots & launching big air followed by amazing birthday sushi dinner with all my Whistler "girlfriends" and Cuzz. Woohoo!

Where do you live, and why

Golf Ambassador

I grew up one of six kids in the suburbs of north Denver learning to ice skate and ski at a young age. Ice hockey took me around the country, living in Dallas, TX for two years during high school to play for a AAA program called the Ice Jets Academy. Now that competitive ice hockey is finished, I spend my year skiing and golfing when/where the weather permits.

I’ve held nearly every position available at golf courses, beginning in maintenance at age 16 mowing fairways and greens, to the cart barn, to the pro shop, and now part-time caddying at both Cherry Hills Country Club and Castle Pines Golf Club.

Best tip for the perfect golf vacation:

Expedia Wants New Features With Amadeus NDC Partnership

Dennis Schaal , Skift

April 4th, 2024 at 1:59 PM EDT

Very slowly, the New Distribution Capability is enabling online travel agencies to catch up with the services that airlines offer on their own websites.

Dennis Schaal

It wasn’t too long ago that if you booked a flight through an online travel agency, you couldn’t pick your seat assignment in advance.

That’s because the technology from global distribution systems such as Sabre, Amadeus and Travelport, which connect airlines and online travel agencies, wasn’t capable of doing so.

Enter the New Distribution Capability (NDC) developed by IATA. It has enabled online travel agencies, such as Expedia, Booking.com, and MakeMyTrip to enable passengers to select their seats in advance for many airlines.

Expedia Expands Amadeus Partnership

Madrid-based Amadeus announced this week that it has an expanded partnership where Expedia will integrate Amadeus’ NDC tech, and deploy its aggregated NDC content solution. Expedia downgraded its distribution relationship with Amadeus rival Sabre , based in Texas, a couple of years ago.

An Expedia Group spokesperson said the Amadeus partnership will enable the online travel agency to accelerate its NDC-based services options.

“With that, travelers will benefit from more dynamic offers and a wider range of competitive fares including ancillaries, ultimately leading to richer traveler experiences,” the Expedia Group spokesperson said.

Potential Services That Expedia Might Introduce

Amadeus said the collaboration would also enable Expedia to further personalize services.

Expedia declined to detail which services it might be adding based on the expanded partnership.

There are a range of services that airline websites offer pre-flight that most online travel agencies don’t.

Among them are onboard Wi-Fi, meals and beverages, dedicated security, early boarding, lounge access, and overhead bin space.

Amadeus believes it can leverage its airline and online travel agency relationships — it already provides flight connectivity services to many online travel agencies — to push NDC.

“Building on our relationships with both airlines and travel sellers, we are in a strong position to foster cross-industry collaboration on NDC to the benefit of travelers everywhere,” Sam Abdou, Amadeus’ vice president of global sales airline IT, distribution and global online travel agencies, said in a statement.
