Dog Travel to Australia From India

Can you bring your dog from india to australia.

Dear PetRelocation,

As per the latest Australian pet import policies, are dogs from India allowed to relocate there? What is the quarantine period, and where can I quarantine my St. Bernard? Thanks,

Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. Navigating the complexities of pet relocation, especially across continents, can be challenging. We understand the importance of keeping your beloved St. Bernard safe and comfortable during this process.

The Challenge of Relocating Pets from Non-Approved Countries

As per the latest Australian pet import regulations , India is classified as a 'non-approved country' for direct pet travel. This means that pets from India, including dogs, are not allowed to be directly relocated to Australia. However, this doesn't mark the end of your journey.

Transit Through a Third Country

Your St. Bernard can still travel to Australia, which requires transiting through a third country. This involves adhering to specific protocols, including vaccination and health requirements. We advise reviewing the official Australia Department of Agriculture website for a comprehensive step-by-step guide for pets traveling from non-approved countries via a Category 3 country.

Quarantine Measures and Considerations

All pets entering Australia are subject to a mandatory 10-day quarantine period. This measure is in place to protect local fauna and maintain the country's stringent biosecurity standards. The quarantine facilities are located in Melbourne, and it's essential to plan this phase meticulously for your pet's well-being.

How We Can Help

If you'd like to tackle this two-step move to Australia from India and want to discuss your options with a Specialist, please contact us for a pet travel consultation . You may also choose to reconsider -- sometimes pet owners decide to cancel or delay a relocation in favor of prioritizing their pet's comfort and safety. We've even had clients who chose to move to different countries than originally planned so that they could bring their pets along (meet Stan the Pit Bull , for example).

Hopefully, this information is helpful, and you're welcome to let us know if you think we can assist you in the future.

Good luck with everything!

What Pet Travel Documents Are Needed to Travel to Australia?

**As of March 1, 2023 , the Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry has implemented changes to the import requirements for cats and dogs . These changes have been reflected in this guide.

The Australian Department of Agriculture provides step-by-step guides to help you, but you’ll find all the basics below.

One exciting fact is that Australia mandates that all imported pets must arrive as manifest cargo, under the care of a professional animal transporter . That's where we come in! We will be your reliable companion throughout the entire process, starting from our initial conversation, providing guidance and assurance, handling Australian customs, and ensuring a smooth quarantine experience. Say goodbye to worries about making mistakes or overlooking important details and say hello to a delightful and tail-wagging journey.

Please note that all required vaccinations, treatments, and blood testing must be completed by a USDA-Accredited Veterinarian.

All pets are required to have an ISO-compatible microchip before completing any other requirements for Australia. A government-approved veterinarian (USDA Accredited) must scan the microchip at every visit and it must be reported accurately on all of your pet's paperwork.

**Microchips that begin with 999 are not acceptable.

AS OF MARCH 1, 2023 : Your pet's identity must be verified by the competent authority (the USDA in the United States) in the country of export. This must be completed BEFORE the blood draw for the rabies titer test. This is a multi-step process that is outlined on the USDA website . Starwood also offers assistance with this step, to ensure it is done properly.

Pets who have had their identity verified with the USDA will be eligible for a 10-day quarantine period. If your pet's identity is NOT verified by the USDA, then they will require a 30-day quarantine period.

Cats and dogs must be immunized with an inactivated rabies vaccine in an approved country when they are at least 84 days old. Three-year rabies vaccines are acceptable, as long as they are given according to the manufacturer's guidelines. The vaccine must be kept continuously up to date from the time of vaccination until export - don't let it expire!

Cats and dogs must complete a Rabies neutralizing antibody titer (RNAT) blood test at least 3-4 weeks after the rabies vaccination. A passing result is >/= 0.5 IU/mL.

The RNAT blood draw must be completed by a government-approved veterinarian (USDA-Accredited) and the blood samples must be sent to an approved laboratory (The Rabies Laboratory at Kansas State University in the USA). The testing laboratory must complete a fluorescent antibody virus neutralization ( FAVN ) test or a rapid fluorescent focus inhibition test (RFFIT).

The RNAT test is valid for 12 months from the date of the blood draw.

Cats and dogs cannot enter Australia until at least 180 days after the blood sample arrives in the lab. There is no exception to this rule.

There are NO exceptions to the 180-day waiting period.

If you don't want to do a blood test, dogs must be vaccinated for Leptospirosis in a series of two shots following manufacturer guidelines - with the second vaccine or annual booster given at least 14 days before travel. Unvaccinated dogs must be tested for Leptospirosis (see other blood tests).

Dogs coming from the US must receive full canine influenza virus (CIV) immunization, at least 14 days before departure. You must follow manufacturer guidelines with a primary vaccination + booster given 3 weeks later.  All boosters thereafter are valid for 1 year.

If your pet will be boarding at all prior to or after travel, then they will still require these additional vaccinations:

  • FVRCP (Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus & Panleukopenia)
  • CIV (Canine Influenza Virus)
  • Leptospirosis
  • DHPP (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Parainfluenza)
  • Bordetella (kennel cough)

Dogs and cats entering Australia must have an import permit unless you are coming from New Zealand or Norfolk Island. You can only apply for the Import Permit after you have received the USDA-endorsed RNATT Declaration, Rabies Titer Results (FAVN), current rabies vaccination certificate, and identity verification details.  It's recommended that you apply for the import permit at least 42 days prior to export, but the earlier, the better. You can apply and pay online via the Biosecurity Import Conditions System .  If you hire Starwood to assist with your pet's travels, we can handle this on your behalf.

The import permit is valid until the RNAT test expires.

Once you have received the import permit, then you can arrange your pet's quarantine reservation.

Kindly note that quarantine space is limited and they process applications in the order they are received. Quarantine has been booked at capacity lately and may not be able to accommodate the date you request. It's possible your pet will be approved to arrive at a later date, depending on quarantine availability.

Dogs are required to complete additional blood tests and the blood draw must be done by a USDA Accredited Veterinarian and submitted to an approved lab. It is NOT recommended that your vet use an intermediary lab as they are not all approved for export testing and this may cause problems or delays.  We strongly recommend that you use Protatek Reference Lab .  The below tests are solely for dogs; cats only require the Rabies Titer Test (FAVN). All of the results for these tests must be negative or your dog cannot travel to Australia.

These tests must be completed within 45 days prior to travel:

  • Leishmania Infantum : Using  either an indirect fluorescent antibody test (IFAT) or an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)
  • Leptospira interrogans serovar Canicola (only required if the dog is not fully vaccinated for Leptospirosis): A Microscopic Agglutination Test (MAT) is required. The result must be negative at a serum dilution of 1:100.
  • Brucella Canis (for intact dogs only - if your pet is spayed or neutered, this is not required): Any of the following test types are accepted - rapid slide agglutination test (RSAT), a tube agglutination test (TAT) or an indirect fluorescent antibody test (IFAT) . If your dog is intact, they cannot be mated from 14 days prior to Brucella testing until export.

Both cats and dogs must be treated for internal and external parasites prior to travel.  These treatments can only be administered in-office by a USDA Accredited Vet using an approved product .  Failure to follow these requirements or letting the treatments expire can result in a delay in your pet's travels and/or non-compliance issues with the USDA or Australian Government.

External Parasites

  • Dogs must be treated for external parasites ( fleas and ticks) at least 30 days prior to export.
  • Cats must be treated for external parasites ( fleas and ticks) at least 21 days prior to export.
  • The treatment must be kept up to date according to manufacturer guidelines through the time of export.
  • The USDA-Accredited vet should examine your pet for fleas/ticks at every visit. If any fleas or ticks are found, they must be removed and the treatments started over.

You can find a list of approved products here .

Internal Parasites

Dogs and cats must also be treated for internal parasites (both nematodes and cestodes) twice prior to travel. The first treatment must be completed within 45 days prior to travel and at least 14 days prior to the second treatment. The final treatment must be given within 5 days of travel. You can find a list of approved products here .

Starwood typically handles the final exam, health certificate, and final parasite treatment on your behalf.

Pets arriving to Australia must travel with the following documents:

  • Microchip verification documents
  • Rabies vaccination certificate(s)
  • General vaccination certificates
  • Endorsed RNATT Declaration
  • Parasite treatment letters
  • Rabies titer test results
  • Other required blood test results
  • Copy of the import permit
  • Endorsed Australian health certificate

If your pet requires medication, special food, or special care while in quarantine, then additional forms must be completed by you and your veterinarian.

Health Certificate for Dogs

If you hire Starwood to assist with your pet's relocation, we will take care of the final exam, paperwork, and USDA endorsement on your behalf.

What Are the Pet Restrictions for Australia?

Australia does not allow the import of domestic/non-domestic animal hybrids.

Hybrid cats include, but are not limited to:

  • Savannah cat - domestic cat ( Felis catus ) + Serval cat ( Felis serval )
  • Safari cat - domestic cat + Geoffroy cat ( Oncifelis geoffroyi )
  • Chausie - domestic cat + Jungle cat ( Felis chaus )
  • Bengal cat - domestic cat + Asian Leopard cat ( Prionailurus bengalensis ).

**In some cases, Australia may permit the import of Bengal cats if they are five generations or more removed and proper documentation is provided.

The following dog hybrids and pure breeds cannot be imported to Australia:

  • Czechoslovakian wolfdog / Czechoslovakian Vlcak
  • Saarloos wolfdog / Saarloos wolfhound
  • Lupo Italiano / Italian wolfdog
  • Kunming wolfdog / Kunming dog
  • Dogo Argentino
  • Fila Brasiliero
  • Japanese Tosa
  • American Pit Bull Terrier / Pit Bull Terrier
  • Perro de Presa Canario / Presa Canario

Dogs and cats may not be more than 30 days pregnant or have suckling young at the time of travel.

Do I Need a Microchip for My Pet to Travel to Australia?

Yes. All pets must have a microchip that is ISO-compatible. If your dog or cat already has a non-ISO microchip (or a number that starts with 999) your vet can implant a second one. Microchips must be implanted & scanned before any other treatments are completed. The correct microchip number MUST be reported on all of your pet's paperwork.

As mentioned above, Australia now requires your pet's identity/microchip to be verified prior to any other treatments in order to qualify for a 10-day quarantine.

What Are the Quarantine Requirements for a Pet Traveling to Australia?

All pets arriving to Australia must spend at least 10 days at the Mickleham quarantine facility in Melbourne upon entering the country. This is why your pet must fly into Melbourne airport, rather than arriving at some other city in Australia. A PEQ staff member will meet your pet from the plane and escort them directly to the quarantine facility.

You must reserve quarantine space in advance, and it is first-come, first-serve. Post Entry Quarantine (PEQ) has been fully booked months in advance, so you may not get the date you are hoping for.

As of March 1, 2023 : Pets who have had their identification verified by an official government veterinarian in the country of export, or have originated in Australia are eligible for a 10-day quarantine period. All other pets are eligible for a 30-day quarantine period.

Your pet’s import permit must be received before you can reserve quarantine space. And proof of full payment for quarantine is required to book your pet’s flight to Melbourne.

Starwood can take care of the quarantine reservation and payments on your behalf.

Are There Any Area Specific Pet Requirements in Australia?

You must use a kennel that is IATA-compliant to ship your dog or cat to Australia. To make your furry companion feel as calm and comfortable on their journey, get the crate early so they have plenty of time to become familiar with it . Keep in mind that any bedding that arrives with pets in Australia will be destroyed for biosecurity reasons.

If you have a service dog, they may ride with you in the passenger cabin, provided they meet the country’s eligibility criteria for assistance dogs . The dog must be clean and well-behaved in public and must have been trained to assist persons with disabilities by alleviating the effects of the disability. Training facilities outside Australia must be a member of the International Guide Dog Federation or Assistance Dogs International. You must provide:

  • The handler’s medical history form (completed by your doctor)
  • The assistance dog training form (completed by a representative of the dog training institution)
  • Proof of the dog's certification/accreditation from the dog training institution

We noted above that Australia requires you to use a professional pet transport company because all animals entering the country must arrive as manifest cargo. Starwood is extremely well-versed in moving pets to Australia, so we're here to help!

Taking Pets to Australia

Relocating to Australia to experience the wonderful culture and famed friendliness of its diverse population is now very popular. If you’re planning to move to Australia, you probably have all the information you need with respect to housing, culture, food, etc. But what about your pets? If you adore your pet and don’t want to leave them behind, you are not alone. Plenty of people move to Australia along with their pets and you can too.

With almost 101 pets per 100 people and nearly 62% of all Aussie households having pets, Australia is a very pet-friendly country. Pets are allowed and welcomed in most public places such as parks and beaches. Pet import to Australia requires a significant amount of preparation and planning. Cats and dogs can be imported to Australia under the following conditions:

  • India is currently not on Australia’s approved list for direct pet import, and so pets must be imported to Australia via an approved country.
  • The first step to prepare your pet to enter Australia is microchipping with an ISO 11784/11785 compliant microchip.
  • Your pet must have all vaccinations done. After waiting a minimum of 30 days after the Rabies vaccination, a rabies titer test must be administered.
  • The titer test blood sample must be processed in an OIE-approved laboratory in China, France, South Korea, Mexico, United Kingdom or South Africa. Before applying for the import permit, your pet must have another rabies titer test once it is moved to an approved country. The sample from the second test can be processed in an approved lab in that country.
  • An import permit is required and must be filed at least 42 days ahead of import.
  • Pets coming to Australia must spend a minimum of 10 days at an official post-entry quarantine facility in Melbourne.
  • When entering Australia from another country through New Zealand, pets must be quarantined in New Zealand, then remain on the island for 90 days after quarantine prior to entering Australia.

Keeping in mind the strict regulations of importing pets to Australia, it is recommended to take the assistance of an accredited pet travel agency to help with the relocation. Jake’s Big Move from India to Australia

by Tara Barbaglia | Jan 9, 2019 | Featured Testimonials , Testimonials | 0 comments

india to australia pet travel

“Being an expat family has a very unique set of challenges – new cultures, new friends, new schools, to name a few – but one of the most stressful challenges happens when you have a pet. All of the documentation, all of the vaccinations , tests, and red tape we have to navigate for our pet is more than we have to go through ourselves; especially when you’re moving from India (one of the more lax locations) to Australia (the most strict location). Factor in being VERY pregnant  and I knew I couldn’t do it alone.

Our experience with the service from India to the US (for Jake’s first leg of the journey) was, quite frankly, a nightmare. Jake had a massive ear infection that was not detected before boarding the flight in Mumbai, so ended up staying in London for an extra week for treatment before finally making his way to Texas. The company we hired out of Mumbai was unprofessional and uncommunicative about where our dog was, how he was doing and when he would be released to travel.

THANK GOODNESS for World Pet Travel! Angela, Laura and the rest of the team took it upon themselves to call London for updates, to update me and to proactively communicate with the Indian company to ensure Jake made it to Texas in one piece.

The team then spent the next several months walking us through every step of getting Jake tested and cleared for his trip to Australia. These types of trips are rarely without hiccups, but the World Pet Travel team is well educated and prepared so they can handle almost anything thrown their way.

Jake is now happy, healthy and home with his two boys and we are so thankful for all the help! I was so impressed with the level of personal interest the team at World Pet Travel took to get Jake home – they truly understand these pets are family.”

Frequently Asked Questions About Our International Pet Travel

Q: how much does it cost to fly a pet internationally.

There are several factors to consider with international pet transport prices, including flight routes, destinations, size, weight of your pet, level of service provided and more. All our quotes can be made all-inclusive with no hidden costs or surprises. Our pet transport prices already include full-service provisions such as organising comfort stops for your pet along their journey and collecting your pet from the airport should there be a flight delay or cancellation.

Q: How Do You Transport Pets Overseas?

We work with our trusted airline partners to help you find the most direct flight option for your pet. We will work with you to ensure all airline pet regulations are met for international pet transport (e.g making sure that your pet travel crate is airline-approved).

Q: Is It Safe To Fly My Pets In Cargo?

The pets’ cabin is dimly lit and the temperature is set to approximately 18 degrees for comfort. The captain of the aircraft is also aware that your furbaby is on board their flight. What your pet will experience in the cabin is very similar to what we feel and hear in the passenger cabin.

Q: Should I Sedate My Dog When Flying?

Sedating your pet can be harmful to them during the flight. It can lower their blood pressure and cause dehydration. Our resident vets recommend Adaptil collars for dogs as an alternative way to make pets feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible during travel. Our pet travel consultant can arrange this for you.

Q: How Do I Keep My Dog Calm On A Plane?

We recommend putting a blanket or soft toy into your pet’s travel crate to help comfort your pet, but please be aware that if your pet messes their travel crate this will be removed. In the lead up to their travel, you can also help them associate the crate with positive things such as play and treats by going through the travel crate familiarisation steps .

All you need to know about international pet transport to India

Pet travel to India is a long process and involves extensive documentation. There are several steps to the process, and it is crucial to follow every step for your pet to fly to India. Since the pet import process to India is long and complicated, partnering with an experienced pet travel partner can help make it easier and less stressful.

Indian pet import regulations state that only two pets can travel per pet parent. If you are planning to travel to India with your pet dog or cat, here are the pet import regulations you must follow:

All pet dogs and cats travelling to India need a 15-digit ISO-compliant non-encrypted microchip implanted under the skin. The microchip has a unique identification number used by airlines and customs officials to identify your pet. The microchip number has to be recorded on all your pet’s documents. Make sure the microchip is implanted before your pet receives their vaccinations and other health tests.

Vaccinations

Pet dogs and cats travelling to India must be fully vaccinated against rabies and other common pet diseases. The vaccinations must be administered more than 30 days and less than 365 days from the date of the journey. They must be valid and given according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

  • Dogs – Pet dogs travelling to India must be vaccinated against rabies, canine distemper, parvovirus, Leishmaniasis and leptospirosis .
  • Cats – Pet cats travelling to India must have valid vaccinations against rabies, distemper, feline enteritis, feline panleukopenia and FVRCP.

All vaccinations must be recorded in the pet’s official health certificate with the microchip number and other information such as date of immunisation, batch number, manufacturer, etc. Pet dogs and cats travelling to India do not need a rabies neutralising antibody test (RNATT).

Documentation for pet travel to India

International pet travel to India is complex because of the amount of documentation involved in the process. An experienced pet relocation agent can help ensure you have all the correct documentation to transport your pet to India. These are the required documents for your pet to fly to India:

  • No objection certificate (NOC) – The NOC is issued by the quarantine officer at the Animal quarantine station in India.
  • Veterinary health certificate – The certificate must be in the prescribed format with the following details: pet parent information, pet description including breed, colour, age and microchip number, country of origin, and health treatment and vaccination details.
  • Pet pictures – Three photos of your pet from the front, side and full body
  • Pet vaccination record – Original vaccination records of your pet dog or cat.
  • Pet parent and spouse passport – Cover to cover scan.
  • Marriage certificate – If the pet is travelling in the spouse’s name
  • Short visit stay record – A spreadsheet listing all countries visited in the last two years with arrival date, departure date and the total number of days of travel.
  • Employee contract – Both from the country of origin and India on the company letterhead
  • Utility bills – Electric, water or telephone bills for the last two years
  • Work visa letter request from the employer – A copy of the letter
  • Work visa or OCI card .
  • Quarantine declaration form
  • FRRO permit for foreigners
  • Employment start date letter – A letter on the company letterhead stating when the employee commences work in India.
  • Bill of lading – Copy of the airway bill for your household goods provided by your moving company
  • Proof of residence in India – Rental/lease or hotel information
  • Airline reservation – A copy of your flight ticket
  • Boarding pass and India entry immigration stamp – A copy of your boarding pass and a copy of the stamp to show you have entered India for the customs clearance of your pet.

Arriving in India with your pet

Flying into India with your pet is not as simple as booking a flight into the country. A pet travel agent can help with the customs clearance of your pet and make the process easy and stress-free. Here’s what you need to remember when your pets arrive in India:

  • Only two pets are allowed to travel into the country per family. If you want to travel with other pets, you will have to apply for an exception ruling before travel.
  • Pet ownership is determined by the name in the pet parent’s passport, and the same name must appear on all the pet’s documents.
  • Pets must arrive after 30 days of the pet parent’s arrival in India.
  • Foreigners need an FRRO permit upon arrival, which is required to apply for the NOC for the pet. The pet parent’s passport is also required to apply for the NOC, which is the first permission to bring the pet to India.
  • Pet dogs and cats must arrive at New Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad or Kolkata. Pets must fly in only on weekdays between 5 am and 12 noon. Do not book your pets on a weekend flight, as pets might be held at the airport until the following Monday. Arriving on public holidays is not recommended for the same reason.

Pet quarantine in India

The quarantine officer will examine all pet dogs and cats as they enter the country. If the pet’s documentation is in order and the pet does not show any sign of illness, they will not be quarantined.

If the pet dog or cat shows signs of illness, they will be moved into a quarantine centre for further testing at the pet parent’s expense. It is rare for a pet to be quarantined upon arrival in India; pets arriving into the country are usually advised home quarantine for 30 days.

Pet transport to India

International pet transport to India is complicated, especially since the pet parent must submit a considerable amount of documentation before the pet can travel to the country. The rules are many, and the procedure is lengthy; therefore, it is advisable to partner with an IPATA-accredited pet transport agent to help with the relocation.

If you plan to travel to India with your pet dog or cat, reach out to Petraveller for a free pet travel quote and a stress-free , door-to-door pet relocation experience.

Australia-India five-Test blockbuster to start in Perth in late November

P erth Stadium has dethroned the Gabba as Australia's preferred first Test venue with the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy to begin in Perth on November 22 this year before the series moves to Adelaide for the day-night Test, Brisbane, Melbourne for Boxing Day and Sydney for the New Year's Test.

Cricket Australia unveiled their international schedule for next summer with the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as the summer's showpiece event. After Perth, the second Test will be a day-night pink-ball encounter played at Adelaide Oval from December 6-10. The third Test will be in Brisbane from December 14-18. The fourth Test will be at the MCG in the traditional Boxing Day slot on December 26 and the fifth Test will be at the SCG starting January 3.

Australia has an unblemished record at Perth's newest venue having won four out of four Tests there including the first one against India in December 2018 , although India went on to claim the series. Perth did not host a Test between Australia and India in the 2020-21 series, which India also won when the final Test was held in Brisbane.

Peter Roach, CA's head of scheduling, said the decision to award Perth the first Test over Brisbane was due to a range of factors with the friendly broadcast timezone for both Australian east coast audiences and India viewers being the final tipping point.

"The clear advice from our national team is that there is a preference to start series strongly at venues where they're really comfortable and Perth and Brisbane they believe are somewhat comparable in terms of the advantage they get out of that," Roach said. "They're the hardest and bounciest pitches in Australia. They also believe that playing day-night Tests in Adelaide is a significant advantage and the stats there are pretty conclusive too.

"So they will look at this schedule and some will say Gabba first would have been better than Perth. Others will say Perth then Gabba. I think that gap has really closed in recent times and the way our players think about that, and having Adelaide as the day-night Test, they'll be really buoyed about that again. So we're really comfortable that this gives us a great opportunity to compete with a really strong Indian team."

Outgoing WA Cricket CEO Christina Matthews is hopeful of a big crowd in Perth after disappointing attendances in recent years, although her preference was to host the pre-Christmas Test.

"I would be looking at crowds of 30-35,000 on day one [for India]," Matthews told ESPNcricinfo as part of an interview to be published later this week. "Getting a space in the calendar is really important. Our preference is the last Test before Christmas. But if it's the first Test, as we've had [the past two years], if we know that's when it's going to be then it makes it easier for everybody to plan. If we can know if it's the first Test of every summer or the third Test every summer, that's the important thing."

While Australia hope to maximise their advantage by starting with Perth and Adelaide, a nine-day gap has been scheduled between the first two Tests. It is understood the BCCI are keen to use that period for India's players to get some specific pink-ball practice and options are being explored as to whether some form of match practice will be scheduled. A Prime Minister's XI match in Canberra is on the cards but whether it is before or after the first Test remains to be seen.

BBL window, but availability issues to remain

The decision to start with Perth and then the day-night Test also means there is a clear window for the BBL to begin after December 10, as those matches are played at night while the Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney Tests are played during the day. CA had to halt the BBL for five days early in the season last summer while the Perth Test between Australia and Pakistan was played in late December. Then the Adelaide Test against West Indies was a day game in mid-January before the day-night Test was held in Brisbane after the BBL had been completed.

The BBL will likely start during the three-day break between the Adelaide and Brisbane Tests and will run through until Australia Day on January 26, with Australia's Test players set to be available for a few weeks after the Sydney Test is completed on January 7.

However, Australia have a two-Test tour of Sri Lanka scheduled for late January and early February which could mean some players are withdrawn from the BBL finals as there is a preference for a seven to 10-day build-up for that series to acclimatise to conditions. The dates for the Sri Lanka tour are yet to be announced. Australia's ODI players will likely head straight to the Champions Trophy after the Sri Lanka tour, with the tournament likely to start on February 19.

Pakistan return for white-ball cricket

Australia will host Pakistan in three ODIs and three T20Is in early November before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy begins. The ODIs will be part of both teams' preparation for the Champions Trophy and is likely to be Australia's last official ODI series before that tournament begins in Pakistan.

The ODI series will start at the MCG on Monday, November 4, the night before the Melbourne Cup public holiday in Victoria. The series will then move to Adelaide on November 8 and finish in Perth on November 10.

The T20I series will run close to the Test series against India and will likely mean that none of Australia's Test players will feature. There is set to be significant turnover in Australia's T20I side by the time the November series starts following the T20 World Cup in June and Australia will likely use the series to develop younger T20I specialists for future World Cups.

The final match of the series takes place in Hobart on November 18 with the first Test against India starting in Perth just four days later.

There is no men's international match in Canberra next summer although there will be a women's T20I during the multiformat Ashes in the lead-up to a historic day-night four-day Test at the MCG between Australia and England starting on January 30, which will celebrate the 90-year anniversary of women's Test cricket.
