Indiana golf’s 2022 junior schedule.
- Comments Off
By Mike May
One of the major focal points of emphasis for Indiana Golf is junior golf. For Indiana’s junior golfers, there will be a multitude of competitive tournament-playing opportunities in 2022. The Howard Bailey Junior Golf Tour features more than 50 tournaments that begin on April 9-10 with the Covered Bridge Junior Spring Series, held at Fuzzy Zoeller’s Covered Bridge Golf Club in Sellersburg. The final event of the year will also be played in southern Indiana, on October 22-23 at the Champions Pointe Golf Club in Henryville.
With this being January, now is a great time to give you sneak preview of three of the major tournament destinations on the Howard Bailey Junior Golf Tour. In some small way, this will give the players an idea of what to expect when they step foot on the first tee at these great venues.
Girls-Indiana Junior PGA Championship
Plum Creek is an impressive 18-hole championship layout, but the golf course truly comes to life on the back nine. From the 10 th tee to the 18 th green, golfers will find water on six holes. The back nine also features five creatively designed doglegs, plus the two par threes, the 11 th and 16 th , are terrific one-shot opportunities. These two holes rival any par three’s in Indiana.
Boys-Indiana Junior PGA Championship
Hoosier Junior Championship
Otter Creek will reward you with the chance of a good score if you are accurate off the tee. There are no funny bounces or bad hops at Otter Creek, which increases this course’s level of fairness. There are few blind shots at Otter Creek, golfers are able to have a good idea of how every hole should play, when standing on the tee. It’s worth noting that the Indiana State Amateur Golf Tournament was held at Otter Creek from 1965 – 1990. Otter Creek is the ultimate proving ground for any promising Hoosier golfer.
The Youth Partners supporting junior golf in Indiana include Fluid Waste Services Inc. , Gainbridge , Baker Utility Partners , PGA Tour Superstore , Bindley Capital , Golf Galaxy , Goodman Campbell , Howard Bailey Financial , Talk to Tucker , Taft Law , Browning Day , Katz Sapper & Miller , Arni’s Restaurant , Lucas Oil Products Inc. , First Bank Richmond , Valparaiso First Insurance , STAR , Indiana State Seniors Golf Association , and Hogan Transfer & Storage .

Experience Jr Golf in Indiana with the HJGT
Indiana is in the very heart of the Midwest and features the sprawling and rustic charm of nature throughout many of its golf courses. There is nothing quite like a good breezy summer day by the lakes or a crisp fall afternoon on the course just outside the hustle and bustle of a city like Indianapolis.
The HJGT hosts open events across the state as well as a College Prep Series at Purdue, making this a great challenge for aspiring, college-bound junior golfers.
Find Upcoming HJGT Tournaments in Indiana
It’s easy to find upcoming HJGT events happening in Indiana. Choose from Open-type events, Invitation-only, Major Championships, and College Prep events. Click on an event to learn more and register participants.
Hurricane Junior Golf has events happening all over the continental United States. From Invitationals to Open to the College Prep Series, see what is happening in your state below so you don’t miss out on a tournament or registration date.

Absolutely! More collegiate golfers got their start on the Hurricane Tour than with any other junior golf tour in the nation.
You can research “College Golf Programs in Indiana,” locate contact information for the coaches at these institutions, and then contact them directly to inquire about their college golf programs. If you are interested in receiving assistance with the college recruiting process, HJGT recommends multiple free and fee-based college recruiting tools such as Junior Golf Hub , RecruitMe , and Junior Golf Guides , which offers a national email directory of every active college golf coach in the US.
Colleges are not affiliated with the HJGT, however, over the years, HJGT alumni have attended Indiana schools such as: Purdue , University of Notre Dame , Ball State University , Bulter University , Indiana State University , and many more.
Yes, a majority of our events are ranked by Junior Golf Scoreboard (JGS) and Global Junior Golf Rankings (GJGR). Many of our premium tournaments also qualify for AJGA stars, GolfWeek, and World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR).
The HJGT is a wonderful opportunity for both seasoned veterans and kids who are new to competitive tournament play. While most of our events feature some of the top juniors in the country, our fields also feature boys & girls who are just getting started in competitive golf. If you are unsure about whether your child is ready for an HJGT event, feel free to call us at 407-614-2962 and a staff member will guide you through it.
The Hurricane Tour annual membership is the best value in junior golf! Whether you are brand new to competitive junior golf or a seasoned veteran hoping to impress college coaches, HJGT’s exclusive membership will enhance your tour experience.

About the Tour
A developmental golf tour in indiana.
PGA Pro Sean Bolduc Founded the Mizuno Junior Golf Tour so Central Indiana Golfers could have affordable but competitive opportunities to play close to home. Sean passed unexpectedly in the spring of 2021. The Seitz family and Reinhardt family took over the Tournament series to continue Sean’s passion of providing golf to everyone regardless of ability to pay. This is possible because of our sponsors Mizuno Golf North America.

Miles Russell, 15, wows with 20th-place finish in first pro start on Korn Ferry Tour
Fifteen-year-old Miles Russell made a hard push up the leaderboard at the Korn Ferry Tour’s LECOM Suncoast Classic, rising to as high as tied for third place.
Russell shot a final-round 66 and was 14-under-par for the week at the event at Lakewood National in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. After a bogey on 18 he was tied for 15th as he walked off the course. He finished in a 10-way tie for 20th place.

Russell, who is 15 years, five months and 19 days old, became the youngest player to make the cut in a Korn Ferry Tour event after shooting first- and second-round scores of 68 and 66, including a front-nine 31 on Thursday.
The left-handed Russell followed that up with a 70 on Saturday, well within his stated goal of a top 25 in his first professional start (he’s playing on a sponsor exemption). He did far better than that, grabbing an early birdie on the par-4 4th, then going birdie-birdie-bogey-birdie-birdie-par-birdie-birdie over the next eight holes. That’s 6 birdies, one par and one bogey against two par 3s, three par 4s and three par 5s.

With a top-25 finish, Russell is automatically eligible for next week’s Veritex Bank Championship in Arlington, Texas.
Russell and Guan Tian Liang are the only players younger than 16 to make a cut in a PGA Tour or Korn Ferry Tour event. Russell drew praise from Phil Mickelson on X , the latter giving a fellow left-handed golfer praise for “playing such incredible golf.”
He broke one of Tiger Woods’ records last year, becoming the youngest player to be named the AJGA Player of the Year. Russell, who is from Jacksonville Beach, Fla., is a high school freshman who has also won the Junior PGA and Junior Players Championship events. He shot a 66 at TPC Sawgrass in the latter. Russell said that he began playing golf at age 2 and broke par by age 6.
Russell told reporters Friday that he has a sponsor exemption into the PGA Tour’s Butterfield Bermuda Championship in November. In the meantime, he expects to continue to play AJGA events as well as elite amateur tournaments.
