Unclear if winter sports is covered

I requested cover for winter sports insurance. However, it is not clear from my certificate if this is covered on the policy Update: This was resolved quickly and positively with a phone call

Avoid this fraudulent company

Avoid this fraudulent company. They work with Reactive Claims and the insurance they sell you is not worth the paper it's written on. Disgusted with their service and with the tactics they use to decline legitimate claims. One star is too much - I wish there was an option for 0

Customer service is very friendly and helpful

I booked with Insurefor policies for several travels of mine so far, and I was always happy and content with the service. I had a question regarding a booking of mine and phoned up the customer service who was super super friendly and helpful!

Beware the Insurers….

Well where do i start …. The underwriter for my Insurefor policy is AXA so really not sure who’s to blame here but im dealing directly with Axa on the phone and having filled in the 8 page document at the resort in Spain and sending it along with all requested documents Doctors report receipts copies of passports tickets etc every time i ring a different answer Oh its gone past our usual payout timeframe il look into it Oh I’ll escalate it should take 48 Hours Oh ill escalate it again 5-10 working days Beyond a joke and this is how insurance companies treat good faith customers. Avoid Insurefor for using Axa and Axa shame on you for treating your customers this way I used to hold the Axa brand as right up there as a top no nonsense insurer but now would never use you again

Inforsure fraud

Book travel insurance with inforsure realise I'd put wrong start day. Got them to amend date to right start date and they removed all medical evidence making policy null and void. Rang again asking them to cancel policy because they'd made it not fit for purpose and was told there is no refund, basically been conned out of £113.27. For their mistake. After them seeing the review they rang me stating there was a mistake and refunded full amount, I think it was more to do with review.

I am currently in Tenerife my child has an ear infection I have tried to call every phone line and not one of them works, not even the medical emergency line!!! you just get a message saying ‘this option is not available please contact our customer care helpline’…..which has the same message. Is this company a scam? I tried the Doctor app and there is no appointment until 11pm tonight. Tried love chat on the website, nobody responds. Will be complaining and telling people never to use

Worst travel insurance ever

Worst travel insurance ever. If I could give 0 stars I would. Our flight cancelled and we had to rebook our flight for a lot more and they said we cannot pay out as your rebooked flight came back earlier than your original flight. It was either get the early flight which was a few hours before original flight that got cancelled or come back 3 days later. Such a scam, better off not having travel insurance

Absolutely joke ( Avoid )

Absolutely joke ( Avoid ) - I purchased this insurance cover for my trip, lost one of my belongings on flight & couldn't be found. However i was refused a claim because my loss was worth below £195. Which doesn't make sense. won't buy this or anyone i know will.

Date of experience : February 04, 2023

Thank you for leaving a review. As the excess on your insurance is £195, if you make a claim you would pay the excess, as the value was below the excess amount the claim would not be processed. I have also contact you directly in relation to this matter. If you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us. The Insurefor Team .

Worthless policy

Worthless policy. Make sure you read the policy wording because despite purchasing their 'Premier Policy' it's practically worthless. We had an evening flight canceled forcing us to pay for hotel accommodation for an additional night which seemingly isn't covered by the policy. Instead, they offer just £20 per 12 hours of delay which is completely pathetic. Half of our party was insured with another big-name insurance company and they had no issue paying out for our hotel costs, so definitely avoid this company if you can.

Injury claim

As a result of me suffering an accident shortly prior to boarding a plane for a holiday, I submitted a claim for a refund. Within 2 weeks I had been offered a full settlement. Extremely professional service and compassion.

Confusing and slow to answer phones

This company only got three stars because of the friendly way the staff delt with my call. I used Confused.com and insurefor.com were the cheapest for single trip travel insurance. When I went ahead with the purchase and was directed to insurefor website, I noticed that only my pre existing medical condition was noted. I added a pre existing condition for my wife but It wasn't listed. So I decided to call the company to ask why. I tried three times during the day, the first two attemps, I hung up after nearly half our waiting. On the third attempt and after a similar length of time the call was answered. The person couldn't explain why my wife's pre existing condition was left out, but we agreed that I would re apply over the phone to ensure that all conditions were noted. On completion the person read back my details, and I pointed out that the house number was wrong. They said that they corrected it, but it was still wrong in the conformation email. So I had to spend another half hour on the phone to correct it. I did try an email, but got no reply.

Don’t buy insurance from this company .. !! Your cover will be virtually zilch .. I claimed for lost prescription glasses £300 plus - claimed max allowed £250. It was declined as I did not report my loss to the Police !!! They are not cheap as you get nothing !!

Do not buy travel insurance

Do not buy travel insurance, they use a 3rd party company 'Reactive' for claims who are useless, no contact or payment despite all documents being provided. Avoid at all costs.

Date of experience : July 18, 2023

Fine until you actually need to claim!

I put in a travel insurance claim in February and the only contact I have had in relation to this are 2 emails both asking for evidence that they already have. I am now having all of my emails ignored and it’s impossible to get through on the phone. I paid a premium fee for having an excess-free policy but now realise this was a complete waste of time and money. I wouldn’t recommend insure for or their underwriters, Reactive Claims, to anyone.

Good morning, Thank you for your review. Unfortunately, we aren't the claim handlers. However, we have passed your matter to the relevant body for you to receive the assistance you require. Kind regards, Insurefor Team

Utterly horrendous experience

Utterly horrendous experience from start to finish. After I bought the insurance I was not sent any details of my insurance policy - only a generic one? I therefore chose to cancel. Tried emailing and was ignored. Finally spoke to someone who said they’d cancelled it, but refused to confirm in writing. Made me give bank details, rather than refunding to original credit card. Over 2 weeks later, no refund. After numerous emails of being told they won’t discuss anything with me due to me using ‘hide my email’ with Apple, the refund looks to be pending. If I could give 0 stars I would have. Your company is a disgrace and I am lodging a formal complaint.

Just about to take an annual travel insurance with insurefor but decided to look at the reviews first. I am very happy I did. I will not go ahead and cancelled the policy now after reading all the reviews. Travel insurance is about providing help, security and assistance if and when it’s needed. This company seem to let down most of its customers. Thank you to all who provided the reviews.

Just bought travel insurance to find…

I just bought travel insurance to find out that expenses relating to private health treatment are not covered unless agreed by our emergency assistance company. I tried to call their emergency 24/7 number, and no one answered it. So how do I get private emergency treatment?

Gave up waiting for the phone to be answered

I believe that my policy includes winter sports cover, but it is very unclear from the documentation I have received. I rang the number suggested for queries. After 43 minutes I gave up. Despite the repeated messages "thank you for holding our agents do know that you are on the line and will be with you as quickly as possible" It would be useful to have an estimate of hold times or queue position when calling.

Wished I'd checked Trustpilot before…

Wished id checked Trustpilot before buying! So when i booked my travel insurance with them i realised that i had made a mistake by 1 day in terms of cover. So simple, phoned them up and asked this to be corrected - thinking not a particularly difficult thing to sort out. To be fair, the guy on the phone was helpful and was polite etc hence the reason why i gave 2 stars instead of 1. After answering some of the questions again i was told i would have to pay £16.23 extra for 1 extra day! Keeping in mind i had been looking around for a deal, i would have picked another company as there were other companies providing an equal or greater provision for less. Apparently i was told the automated system gave this figure and couldn't be altered. So here I am placing a review about them as i feel this was an unreasonable increase. Looking at some of the reviews im also thinking maybe i should of considered another provider?! So, tale of the story, careful of minor errors and check Trustpilot always - don't get rushed! PS i will update as and when as, as ive noticed a default response from this company on many replies from them. Im sure people would be interested in the outcome.

Date of experience : May 30, 2023

Good morning, Thank you for your review. We are unable to waive the premiums quoted for amendments, as the system calculates the premium based on the total risk score generated from all travel details entered. The system has generated the additional premium of £16.23, as the risk score is being calculated using the new total amount of days, rather than calculating the one day that is being added. The risk score will also re calculate the destination, number of travellers, each traveller's age and more. Kind regards, Insurefor Team

Terrible company to deal with, avoid at all costs!

wanted to add cruise cover to my annual policy, was told this was not possible and advised to take out a completely new policy. No refund on my existing policy was offered even though it had over 9 months to run. No refunds after 14 days on a cancelled policy. Premium rate contact numbers are used if you can get through by phone!

Insurefor is underwritten by Axa

Insurefor is underwritten by Axa. Left us stranded in Spain after having emergency operation. We had to pay for everything on our credit card, arrange our flights home, arrange additional accommodation. It took 5 months to get any settlement, only then I didn't receive all that was due. I had to email CEO of Axa as a last resort. Never use any company underwritten by Axa.

Fall at Be Live Hotel Costa Teguise. Policy No:AIF19358201

When I ended up in hospital after a fall in Lanzarote, having to get a hip replacement, Insurefor.com were really good. They authorised the payment for the operation the day after I went into hospital and also refunded the €2000 I had to pay before I was allowed to stay in the hospital. I am still awaiting settlement of the other out of pocket expenses I had to pay but I have forwarded receipts to them. Being in hospital for 8 days in a foreign country was a very frightening experience for me but I was so pleased with the service from Insurefor.com

Do you ever pay out on TopCashBack?

Do you ever pay out on TopCashBack @Insurefortravel? In May 2021, TopCashBack paid the claim for you, for the policy I purchased and left in place in Jan 2020. Purchased another policy in Jan 2023, forgetting the slow payout, and no signs of anything happening other than the usual "pending". So after coming here to write this, I read the other reviews, and sent myself an email reminder to never to purchase from you again. Ah well.

AVOID AT ALL COST

This insurance company FAILED us whilst on holiday! Left us at a hospital for over 8 hours and never returned any of our calls!!! 13 HOURS later they returned our calls!! You need a case reference number before a hospital in Tenerife admit you, and this company did not provide it!!!! NO duty of care given whatsoever!! Totally abandoned us in our hour of need!! Serious blood infection that could have turned sepsis!!! They did nothing, and I still await a managers call regarding my complaint!! Avoid this company all ALL costs!!

Slow to look at claims

Every time I chase my claim status I get told to call back in 5 days even though it's been 'escalated' after a month. I finally got a settlement but they'd missed the hotel part of the claim so I'm back to square one. I originally tried to make my claim online but the submission page stopped working so I completed it over the phone. 2 weeks later I discovered the lady hadn't submitted any of the claim!

I booked travel insurance as I booked…

I booked travel insurance as I booked surprise holiday for my elderly mum. I spoke to someone and explained the situation and they said details can be changed if I got something wrong. Turns out that she already has travel insurance so asked if she could be taken off the policy as it would affect her travel insurance. First they responded no, so I asked again as it affects mums policy and nothing. As they took so long to get back it’s out of the cooling off period, which they could have mentioned. Get a refund and re-buy but I would not use this company again!!!

Appalling Support for Disabled Customers

I purchased Travel Insurance with InsureFor, paying for their more expensive tier, hoping for good treatment. On my trip, a flight delay on a connecting flight disrupted my return journey and I had to arrange accommodation and book a new flight. I put a lot of time and effort into gathering the information needed to make the claim to recover the costs before submitting it. After well over two weeks, an agent phoned and, in a quiet, mumbling voice, said the claim was being rejected. I told the agent that I could not hear them clearly and said I would not be able to remember the details well because of a disability. I asked her to email me with the information including why it was being rejected. She agreed and ended the call. I never received an email and the company has been silent since. I sorely regret purchasing insurance with InsureFor and regret not having searched for an insurer with better customer reviews. I advise you to look for a better insurer, particularly if you want one who cares for customers' needs.

Not great, better insurers out there

Travel insurance customer for a number of years with them. Policy renewal advice received. Be cautious they have changed underwriter in the last year and also policy names, booklet and some benefits. My renewal quote seemed ok on top of range Premier policy, used to be Ultimate21policy.I take a annual policy that will cover up to 50 or 60 days away on any one trip usually But on checking the policy book whilst it mentioned you are covered up to 60 days in one section, two other sections indicated a maximum of only 32 days cover!! Emailed insurefor for clarification initially told sorry it's only 32 days, then on writing another person says 60 days, another then 32 and so on. Phoned and a helpful lady had to go away and check and confirmed 60 days but couldn't clarify discrepancies in policy book. Emailed rock insurance who do their admin and claims who said it's 60 days. Sorry I have not renewed with them. If they can't get the basics right and give you incorrect or conflicting info 're the policy I have little confidence in making a claim. Now switched to a better known 5star insurer who's processe s and info were clear.

Contactless Robbery

I bought them online by mistake last year and contacted them for cancellation within 14 days by email. someone replied by asking me more personal details, I gave them, and that was it! No refund or emails... Until this year, I received Auto Renewal, and a transaction record on my bank statement. I don't event know what type of insurance did I buy. All the documents are universal lines to keep their ass clean. Customer service is a chat robot maybe who doesn't solve any problem.

Emergency Assistance and Claims Process is Abysmal

My husband was admitted to hospital in Italy in June 2022. We had a travel insurance policy with Insurefor. Emergency assistance was covered by Mayday, and claims were covered by Reactive Claims, aka Rock. We received no emergency assistance from Mayday, and I had to find and pay for accommodation and flights home myself. On our return, I submitted my claim and made a complaint to Mayday. Nothing happened and I went to the ombudsman. As a result of this, Mayday eventually apologised and paid me compensation. After a very long time, with intervention from the ombudsman, Reactive Claims paid my costs. However, they refused to pay me the compensation that the ombudsman had recommended. This was escalated to a higher level by the ombudsman and they finally, 20 months later, paid me some compensation. They had no choice, as they were bound by law to accept the ombudsman's decision. I will never use this company again. They have glowing reviews from people about their purchase experiences, but their claims process is abysmal. NB. If anyone reading this has never heard of a Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC), it is free to apply for on the NHS website. It entitles you (in most European countries) to the equivalent medical treatment that their citizens receive. The Italian healthcare system was outstanding and we didn't have to pay anything to the hospital because we had a GHIC card.

Once again, please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience and any frustration caused. Kind Regards Michelle

Policy 'Wording document' (details of insurance cover) not available before booking

Just went on gocompare and this came up for cheapest travel insurance. Was going to book but the 'policy wording' document link will not open up. Phoned the number given and asked if they could email me a copy before I book, as I want to ensure nothing is missed in any small print. Was told this wasn't possible. I am sure anyone booking travel insurance wants to see in writing exactly what they are and aren't covered for. Am going to therefore go with the next provider on the list

I bought travel insurance online and as soon as the confirmation email arrived I realised that I had made a mistake on my details. From the drop down box I had clicked on June instead of July for my date of birth. A stupid mistake I admit. The policy booklet said amendments could be made for a £10 fee. I called and spoke to an agent who said I had to pay £126 to make the change. The policy had only cost £78 in the first place so this was ridiculous. I cancelled immediately. This was by far the cheapest insurance on comparison sites but as other people have said 'if it seems too good to be true it probably is'

Dear Mrs J B, Thank you for your review, I am sorry you are unhappy with your recent encounter with InsureFor. I am sorry to hear that you were the increase in price was so high just by changing the month of birth. There are multiple factors that can affect the cost of a travel insurance policy. These include for example the age of a traveller, their medical conditions, the medical treatment costs in the country of travel and the type of policy i.e. basic or comprehensive. We take all feedback regarding our products and services very seriously and thank you for raising your concerns. Your comments will be passed on to the relevant department. Unable to make submit claim online due to broken website

I'm looking to make a claim online but the form to submit a claim is broken - after entering all details and being asked to review my answers, clicking the 'Continue' button doesn't do anything. From looking at other reviews I do not seem to be the only experiencing this issue. This is a glaring oversight and seems to be an intentional way of making the submission of a claim as difficult as possible.

Totally Rubbish-Our holiday got cut…

Totally Rubbish-Our holiday got cut short by the ferry company as it was taking the boat out of service on the day we were supposed to be coming home. So we had to come home on the Tuesday instead of Friday , we put a claim in for the lost days for the accommodation ( a bungalow ) but it was declined. When we telephoned them (and eventually got through after being cut off numerous times) they kept going on about its not covered on a cruise (we didn’t even go on a cruise) they just didn’t listen. We definitely not be using these again.

BEWARE DONT BUY.. ITS A CON.. DONT BUY..

I took out insurance for a month long family trip to NZ and I had the date wrong by 1 day due to travel back over the date line (leave NZ on 29th Feb arrive UK 1st March). The initial insurance cost me £134 and the cost to change the date by one day is £165 LOL !!! Absolute joke, don't buy anything from these con merchants, I called twice because I thought there must be an error but no they both quoted an extra £165 for an extra day. No help on the phone, just kept on referring to "the computer tells me what to say". Scroll on past this company if your taking our insurance.

Medical Assistance line unavailable

The medical assistance line did not answer the phone and didn't call back. This is provided by Mayday Assistance rather than InsureFor but they need to know how bad the medical assistance line is. InsureFor did however pay up my expenses otherwise the rating would be far worse. If my condition had been very serious this could have caused real problems. Mayday should really have other methods of contact for when the phone fails.

Easy to navigate through to purchase

It's difficult to rate a product I've only just bought for my holiday in May! Holiday insurance, like most insurances, are taken out and paid for with the extreme hope you never need to use them. In that vein my 5 stars is based on ease of purchase and prompt delivery of policy number details!

Helpful Customer Service

I got my quote from Compare The Market. Quote was cheap and covered the entirety of our family trip to Morocco. The customer service team was also incredibly helpful. I accidentally deleted all my Gmail emails, this resulted in losing my quote. I contacted the team and they were able to resend the policy! No doubt I'd book again, fingers crossed that we don't ever need to file a claim, but it's a good reassurance to have!

Medical cover anomaly

I am a current customer. I had cancer a few years ago that I do not need covering. I was told that the disclosure has been registered but if I don't want it covering then I won't be covered for medical. I wanted to clarify what I was being told, so gave a scenario of breaking my leg on holiday and I was told that, no, I would not be covered for ANY medical if I didn't want my cancer, that has gone, and treatment finished, covered. Also, when calling and queuing, it would be helpful to know what number in the queue you are in.

Do not use this company

Do not use this company. I would give zero stars if I could. This company will find any reason not to honour your claim. If you have used them read every page of every document and ask for a copy of the the IPID (insurance policy information document) to be sent to you as they do not send this routinely as an attachment. It is sneakily hidden as a link. Rather than complain here (which serves no real purpose) I encourage anyone who has had a bad experience to register your claim with the FCA directly - they have to respond to this: Google "Financial Ombudsman, make a complaint"

My claim wasn't covered.

My claim wasn't covered. I missed a flight due to long security checking times, I did everything I was supposed to do - leaving more than the suggested time; but everything just took so long to get through. It was the day before half term. I spoke with a claims adviser through reactive. They explain that I was only covered with breakdown/delays getting the the airport - not in the airport. It feels a little unfair as the circumstances were out of my control. The claim handler was patient and went through the detail of the wording, so main problem for me was the product itself.

Date of experience : 31 October 2023

Terrible, awful, appalling- I could go on. My husband had a heart attack so we were unable to travel - we were only asking for the accommodation to be refunded (approx £450) as EasyJet were able to give us a voucher for the flights. We provided everything necessary but have refused to pay us out. Additionally we said we would like to cancel the annual policy and receive a refund as we were very unimpressed by them. We were told as we had tried to make a claim we couldn’t receive a refund even though they had rejected it. The policy is not worth anything don’t bother wasting your time and money on this very unprofessional company.

Careful using this company as policy wording is very misleading

Tried to claim for a cancellation of a Deutsch Bahn train from Brussels to Cologne which inevitably made us miss our connection to Berlin. The next available journey wasn't until 4 hours later and would've got us into Berlin gone midnight. We had to buy a new ticket to go via Amsterdam as we had to get to Berlin by midnight that night or we would've lost our hotel booking, costing us even more money. My advice to anyone is don't use InsureFor. They told us we can't claim because under section 3 of the policy wording, "travel disruption isn't actually listed" - although it is listed in the subheading of section 3 but then not in the list below - which is highly misleading and I'll be making a formal complaint and reporting to the ombudsman for misinformation. It seems like a tactic so they don't have to pay you. I would warn people not to use them and to use a more reputable company who uses clearer policy terms that doesn't involve misdirection. Quite shameful really.

Please Avoid At All Costs

"If a deal is too good to be true, then it probably is" Due to holiday cancellation, I contacted Insurefor to process a (partial) refund. This is the timeline - 8/1 request refund and promised funds within 7 days. 18/1 still no funds, so chased and told the operator had failed to process correctly, so this would now be process and I'd receive an email with refunds amounts and confirmation. 30/1 STILL no refund, so chased again, only to be told I actually have to wait 14 working days for my funds to land. 7/2 YET AGAIN, NO FUNDS. Chased and told the refund was processed, so escalating. Once is a mistake, twice is really unfortunate, three times is a choice. I have been lied to and had efforts made to delay with, I suspect, deliberate intentions to avoid giving me my money back (as entitled). If this is how the company do business at a simple point, I shudder to think what they are like in the event of a claim or support. Honestly, please, please avoid this company for your own peace of mind.

Dear Terry, Thank you for your review, I am sorry you are unhappy with your recent encounter with InsureFor. I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the refund of a cancelled policy. I have checked the account and can see that you did indeed cancel the policy on 08/01/2024 and due to the agent missing an email it was not processed. The refund was then done on the 19/01/2024 after you spoke to another agent on the 18/01/2024, the agent should have then advised 10 to 14 working days for refund. I can also see that you have spoken to a manager today (07/02/2024) and that they have arranged to call you back to sort this matter out. Please be assured that the relevant feedback will be passed on to the agents manager in order to provide them with the relevant training and support to improve the customer experience they are providing. Once again, please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience and any frustration caused. Kind Regards Michelle

Terrible from the beginnning

Tried to download my policy documents after payment had cleared. Keeps coming up with an error404 message for any and all PDF's on their website. When called, the agent was very helpful in saying they'd send out PDF's within the hour to my email, but six hours later, they are MIA. Having read the other similar reviews, I've given them notice to cancel my policy. They seem useless, and don't want the hassle of trying to claim via them. I'll go with Admiral or someone else with a half decent reputation

Not fit for purpose

We were left stranded in France because the airline cancelled our flights with less than 48 hours notice. We had no choice but to rebook with another airline. Tried to claim for costs but was rejected. The most pointless travel insurance policy. The cover is so limited and extremely difficult to understand the wording compared to other insurers like AMEX for example. Will never use this company again.

Date of experience : 06 June 2023

Absolutely shocking

Absolutely shocking, we first contacted them on the 16th June and we are still to receive a penny off them. We ended up paying for hospital bills, extra days accommodation and flights as my husband wasn't allowed to fly home on our original flights or dates. They had 11 daya to try and sort something for us but they didnt organise anything. They haven't got a clue what they are doing. I swear they are running this company from a spare bedroom somewhere. AVOID at all costs!!!!!

Annual insurance purchase

I came to the site through confused.com. I looked at a few providers but I picked this one because it was 5 stars, the price was competitive and offered the insurance cover that I wished. I wanted wintersports too and clicked the box. On site it said I had winter sports but it wasn't at the end when I was paying, so I backtracked twice. However, on paying and receiving the email, there was no mention of wintersports. Therefore, I phoned the next morning to check. It wasn't on the policy, so the lady amended by cancelling the previous payment and putting a new one through, at the exact same price (!) to include wintersports. I think there must be an upgrade glich in the system but I'm glad I got it sorted before I travel at new year! Hence, I've only given you 3 stars but your operator was very helpful.

Good morning, Thank you for leaving a review. I am sorry for the issues you faced when the policy was set up, we are aware there has been some issues with upgrades on the site and this is being fixed. We are pleased this was resolved by the agent. If you require any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us. Kind Regards, Insurefor Team.

I went onto the internet to compare…

I went onto the internet to compare travel insurance prices for a single trip. It can be quite mind boggling for want of a better word, but after trying a couple of travel insurance sites I found INFORSURE.CO, and completed their form. It was really easy. As long as you are completely honest about any health problems that you have.... I found their form easy to complete and at a price that was reasonable to pay for a single trip. It covered everything we needed, in case of lost luggage, cancellation of flight etc. I was nervous of having to do this, never having done it before, but it was extremely easy. I would definitely go with INFORSURE.CO again and I recommend them 100%.

I got a travel insurance from them and it was useless

I got an insurance from them for an upcoming trip. They promised to send me the certificate that I need for my visa application. After one week I got no certificate and I had to pay for another insurance at the Visa Application Center. I won't recommend anyone to go near them. They have even refused to refund the money I paid for the policy.

Dear Pius, Thank you for your review, I am sorry you are unhappy with your recent encounter with InsureFor. Thank you for speaking with me today, as discussed I have asked that someone contact you to arrange cancellation of your policy as the certificate did not arrive in time for your visa application. Just to confirm we have at no time refused to cancel and refund the policy, we have twice replied to your email request to cancel with the relevant cancellation questions and we have not had a reply to them. Once again, please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience and any frustration caused. Kind Regards Michelle

You Get What You Pay For

I have to give 1 star because 0 star is not accepted. Found this company on a comparison site but unfortunately never read the reviews before I started the quote. Their website was unstable so I got no confirmation of payment, which did show on my credit card account. I never received any policy documents. Insurefor said they would cancel and refund so I could start with a new policy. The amount refunded was less than the payment taken. It then took weeks of constant emailing to get the outstanding amount back. Constantly getting automatic replies and then different agents handling the case. Terrible customer service in trying to get my own money returned. I will not be using them again.

Feels like a scam

I need to make a claim due to the passing of my sister, but the claims website doesn't work and afywr calling I was given an email address. Tried sending the relevant paperw to them and they say they're not my provider and can't help either. I can't speak to a person on the phone, and the only other email address I have said they are admin only and can't help me either.

Insurefor - just awful

My annual travel insurance didn’t renew halfway through my recent holiday despite an email to say they would. When I phoned the Company to discuss prior to my flight home they refused to renew it even though it wasn’t my fault. I complained and they escalated it and agreed to refer it to their underwriters. I’m now home from my holiday and still waiting on a response. Awful service and would not use again.

Awful, I doubt they’re actually a real company

Awful customer service and just general cluelessness as a company. Submitted my claim on 27/03 for a pair of Christian Dior sunglasses which broke whilst on holiday. Nothing else. Just a pair of sunglasses. On 01/04 I received an email from the claims dept asking me to provide ‘a repair estimate from a reputable dry cleaner’. I’m not an optician or a sunglasses expert by any means, I just wear them, but I’m 99.9% sure that dry cleaners aren’t the experts either? Happy to be proven wrong though. On 02/04 I phoned them because I’d received yet another email from them, this time asking for my bank details, which were already provided at the initial point of claim. The employee whom I spoke to apologised and said that no further information was needed, he’d checked everything and confirmed they now had everything required for a claims assessor to review the claim and I would have an update within 7 days. Today, 11/04, I called back for an update as it’s been more than 7 days to be told that there’s information missing, which was provided at initial point of claim but ‘they can’t open the document’. So even though the last person I spoke to told me they had everything, they’ve now wasted 7 days of my time but also not got in contact again to tell me there’s an issue. Seems to be like they’re just a really unprofessional company who think that dry cleaners are optical experts and who lie to you just to get you off the phone. Do yourself a favour and insure your travels with a reputable company.

Dear Amy, Thank you for your review, I am sorry you are unhappy with your recent encounter with InsureFor. I am sorry to hear of the issue you have had when making a claim. I would agree with all the one star…

I would agree with all the one star reviews I'd give zero stars if it were possible. Communication is diabolical, nobody seems to know what they're talking about. As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Update - I had a lovely conversation with Michelle last week, what a nice lady. I was assured somebody would be contacting me to process a refund, I so wanted to be proved wrong - well surprise surprise, I'm still waiting!!! Please do not call me again, I won't be answering the call.

Good Customer Service

I took out travel cover for 10 days and decided to alter our plans, so rang number on policy and asked to cancel as well within cooling off period. When I didnt get a connfirmation email, I set email to the admin team who replied within minutes. They sent confirmation of cancellation and I got premium refunded today. Couldnt ask for better service.

Would give 0 stars if I could

In January 2024 I took out a travel policy with them for a holiday in May 2024, but we then had to cancel our holiday, but had no need to make a claim on our policy. I called insurefor to cancel our travel policy. They agreed we were due a 65% refund (being just over £177) and promised to pay it to me within 10-14 days. They did not. I have made several phone calls to them again over a few more weeks, only to be told each time that they had not made the refund (refusing to give me a reason why), promising each time to take care of it as a priority. I've received nothing from them, so I have had to initiate a court claim against them.

Don't BUY

Don't BUY! the site offers false reviews and they use AXA as provider and they are awful! Got stranded without any ferry, flights or any other transport in el nido and lost my jon refundable accommodation. In Addition had to buy new accommodation for 2 days last minute costing me in total £900. For my surprise AXA only covers 20£ per 12h of delay and say that trip cancellation is only for trips to and from the uk. They thieves and liars!

Wanted to save money but ended up costing me a lot!!!

I used to have travel insurance with LV but when it was time to renew I decided to find a cheaper alternative and went with Insure.com - what a mistake! Flights were cancelled because of air controller strike in France. I had to be back in the UK that day so drove a car to Paris to take the Eurostar and the claim was refused because I managed to make it home less than 12 hours after my original arrival. If I could have waited to travel the next day I would have just rebook the flights with the airline! When with LV I claimed flights that I didn’t take because of weather warning in Sydney and they refunded me with no question. I’ve been patiently waiting for my insurance to expire so I can go back to a decent insurance company.

Booked single trip policy for Italy and…

Booked single trip policy for Italy and Switzerland. Policy details came through with Sicily and Switzerland on it. Phoned to rectify- lady said she would change it. When no updated documents came through , phoned to check. Not changed, would be charged £18 to rectify even though it was their mistake ( policy had only cost £22 so £18 to amend?) Had to cancel and then will only receive partial refund. Avoid.

No complaints from me, all good

I bought a single trip policy for a week in Egypt and unfortunately had a fall on a slippery tiled floor resulting in a dislocated shoulder I had to go to hospital for my shoulder to be put back in and after X-rays and MRI showed an unstable fracture also to the head of my humerus which needed surgery to repair. The hospital were able to lease with my insurers (AXA) directly and after the necessary information was provided settled my medical bills quickly before I was discharged. I’ve seen some people have been critical of this company but for my own experience I have nothing but praise. My £20 policy paid out over £10k with only £195 excess for me to pay.

A good experience

After reading a lot of negative reviews I can only speak as I found.Unfortunately my wife took ill and we had to cancel our holiday.I followed the instructions to claim and we received a full refund within a month of starting our claim.I am a pensioner and not full tech savvy so I rang the number provided and I received a claim form in the post the next day.so I must say the service was excellent and as my wife is now recovered we will use this company next time we need insurance

Shocking increase in premium

Purchased a family policy. Ten days prior to travel I fractured my wrist. The dr and holiday provider were both happy for me to travel as my cast had been on for more than 48 hours. I called insurefor to declare my wrist injury just incase I needed medical assistance whilst abroad. They wanted over £115 extra to declare it. I ended out buying a separate policy elsewhere for myself. Declaring ALL my medical conditions I was able to buy the new policy for less than £50. Will I use insurefor again? Absolutely NOT

Date of experience : 01 February 2024

Dear Tina, Thank you for your review, I am sorry you are unhappy with your recent encounter with InsureFor. As I am sure you will appreciate, there are multiple factors that can affect the cost of a travel insurance policy. These include for example the age of a traveller, their medical conditions, the medical treatment costs in the country of travel and the type of policy i.e. basic or comprehensive. InsureFor is priced competitively within the travel insurance marketplace and we continuously review our products and pricing to ensure that the company remains competitive at all times. We take all feedback regarding our products and services very seriously and thank you for raising your concerns. Your comments will be passed on to the relevant department. Once again, please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience and any frustration caused. Kind Regards Michelle

Good, professional service, but a bit slow to keep us updated on our claim

Reactive Claims, who handled our claim, were easy to contact online, but needed a few prompts to keep us informed of progress. However, they handled our claim very professionally and paid out on the policy in full, including reimbursement for a prescription which I had overlooked in my original claim and forwarded to them several weeks later, after the initial claim had been settled. Everything takes time, but I found them thorough and efficient.

Hopeless admin

Wish I'd seen others' reviews before signing up with them. Shocking admin. Policy didn't auto-renew because of a card change. Couldn't change it online, because my policy wasn't showing in my online account. Telephoned in instead, through to renewals, but the agent didn't have the facility to take payment, or update card details. Said I'd have to start again from scratch.

Date of experience : 22 January 2024

Dear Skipper, Thank you for your review, I am sorry you are unhappy with your recent encounter with Rock Insurance. I am sorry to hear that your policy was not renewed automatically. When the card that was previously used to pay has expired we are unable to just update the card details. A new quote has to be done, I can see that this was offered to you and that you declined this. I will certainly pass on your comments regarding the online service and that you weren't able to update the card details online. Once again, please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience and any frustration caused. Kind Regards Michelle

Terrible site that makes it impossible to claim anything

Got insurance with them through a comparison site. When I had to cancel my holiday due to sickness, I tried to make a claim online. I filled out the basic details but couldn't get any further because when I clicked 'continue' the button didn't work. Tried it on my phone and laptop and nope, it's just a broken link. Why has that not been fixed?

Good cover at great prices

Found this through moneysupermarket.com. Great price, with policy upgrades available if required. Health conditions covered without exorbitant fees and good levels of cover even on the basic policy. Very clear information on the prices and level of cover for each type of policy. Easy purchase and instant email confirmation. Would recommend.

11 Best Travel Insurance Companies in April 2024

Sean Cudahy

Many or all of the products featured here are from our partners who compensate us. This influences which products we write about and where and how the product appears on a page. However, this does not influence our evaluations. Our opinions are our own. Here is a list of our partners and here's how we make money .

If the past few years have shown us anything, it’s that travelers need to be prepared for the unexpected — from a pandemic to flight troubles to the crowded airport terminals so many of us have encountered.

Whether you’re looking for an international travel insurance plan, emergency medical care or a policy that includes extreme sports, these are the best travel insurance providers to get you covered.

How we found the best travel insurance

We looked at quotes from various companies for a 10-day trip to Mexico in September 2024. The traveler was a 55-year-old woman from Florida who spent $3,000 total on the trip, including airfare.

On average, the price of each company’s most basic coverage plan was $126.53. The costs displayed below do not include optional add-ons, such as Cancel For Any Reason coverage or pre-existing medical condition coverage.

Read our full analysis about the average cost of travel insurance so you can budget better for your next trip.

However, depending on the plan, you may be able to customize at an added cost.

As we continue to evaluate more travel insurance companies and receive fresh market data, this collection of best travel insurance companies is likely to change. See our full methodology for more details.

Many travel insurance plans contain exclusions for adventure sports activities. If you plan to ski, bungee jump, windsurf or parasail, this might be a plan to consider.

Note that the Standard plan ($72 for our sample trip), while the most affordable, provides less coverage than other plans. But it can be a good choice for travelers who are satisfied with trip cancellation and interruption coverage of $2,500 or less, do not need rental car damage protection, find the limits to be sufficient and do not need coverage for certain more adventurous activities.

What else makes World Nomads great:

Comprehensive international travel insurance plans.

Coverage available for adventure activities, such as trekking, mountain biking and scuba diving.

However, travelers will want to be aware that IMG’s iTravelInsured Travel Lite is expensive. Coming in at $149.85, it’s the costliest plan on our list.

  • In addition Cancel For Any Reason, some plans offer cancel for work reason coverage.
  • Adventure sports-specific coverage is available.
  • Plans have overlap that can be hard to distinguish.
  • Only one plan includes Rental Car Damage coverage available as an add-on.

Tin Leg’s Basic plan came in at $134 for our sample trip, adding about $8 onto the average basic policy cost. Note that you’ll pay a lot more if you shop for the most comprehensive coverage, and there are eight plans to choose from for trips abroad.

The multitude of plans can help you find coverage that fits your needs, but with so many to choose from, deciding can be daunting.

The only real way to figure out your ideal plan is to compare them all, look at the plan details and decide which features and coverage suit you and your travel style best.

However, at $136, the Basic plan was among the more expensive for our trip to Mexico.

What else makes TravelSafe great:

As you shop for travel insurance, you’ll find many of the same coverage categories across numerous plans.

Trip cancellation

This covers the prepaid costs you make for your trip in cases when you need to cancel for a covered reason. This coverage helps you recoup upfront costs paid for flights and nonrefundable hotel reservations.

Trip interruption

Trip interruption benefits generally involve disruptions after you depart. It helps reimburse costs incurred for flight delays, cancellations and plenty of other covered disruptions you might encounter during your travels.

This coverage can cover the costs for you to return home or reimburse unexpected expenses like an extra hotel stay, meals and ground transportation.

Trip delay coverage helps cover unexpected costs when your trip is delayed. This is another coverage that helps offset the costs of flight trouble or other travel disruptions.

Note that many policies have a total amount a traveler can claim, with caps on per diem benefits, too.

Cancel For Any Reason

Cancel For Any Reason coverage allows you to recoup some of the upfront costs you paid for a trip even if you’re canceling for a reason not otherwise covered by your standard travel insurance policy.

Typically, adding this protection to your plan costs extra.

Baggage delay

This coverage helps cover the costs of essential items you might need when your luggage is delayed. Think toiletries, clothing and other immediate items you might need if your luggage didn’t make it on your flight.

Many travel insurance plans with baggage delay protection will specify how long (six, 12, 24 hours, etc.) your luggage must be delayed before you can make a claim.

Lost baggage

Used for travelers whose luggage is lost or stolen, this helps recoup the lost value of the items in your bag.

You’ll want to make sure you closely follow the correct procedures for your plan. Many plans include a maximum total amount you can claim under this coverage and a per-item cap.

Travel medical insurance

This covers out-of-pocket medical costs when travelers run into an emergency.

Because many travelers’ health insurance plans don’t cover medical care overseas, travel medical insurance can help offset out-of-pocket health care costs.

In addition to emergency medical coverage, many plans have medical evacuation or repatriation coverage for costs incurred when you must be taken to a hospital or return to your home country because of a medical situation.

Most travel insurance plans cover many trip protections that can help you be prepared for unexpected travel disruptions and expenses.

These coverages are generally aimed at protecting the money you put into your trip, expenses you incur because of travel trouble and costs incurred if you have a medical emergency overseas.

On top of core coverages like trip cancellation and interruption and travel medical coverage, some plans offer add-on options like waivers for pre-existing conditions, rental car collision damage waivers or adventure sports riders. These usually cost extra or must be added within a specified timeframe.

Typical travel insurance policies offer coverage for many unforeseen events, but as you research to select a plan, consider your needs. Though every plan differs, there are some commonly excluded coverages.

For instance, you typically can’t get coverage for a named storm if you bought the coverage after the storm was named. In other words, if you have a trip to the Caribbean booked for Sept. 25 and on Sept. 20 a hurricane develops and is named, you generally won’t be able to buy a travel insurance plan Sept. 21 in hopes of getting your money back.

Many plans also don’t cover activities performed under the influence of drugs or alcohol or any extreme sports. If the latter applies to you, you might want to consider a plan with specific coverages for adventure-seekers.

For numerous plans, a few other situations don’t qualify as an acceptable reason to cancel and make a claim, such as fear of travel, medical tourism or pregnancies (unless you booked a trip and bought insurance before you became pregnant or there are complications with the pregnancy). This is where a Cancel For Any Reason add-on to your coverage can be helpful.

You can also run into trouble if you give up on a trip too soon: a minor (or even multihour) flight delay likely isn’t sufficient to cancel your entire trip and get reimbursed through your plan. Be sure to review what requirements your specific plan has when it comes to canceling a trip, claiming trip interruption, etc.

Travel insurance costs vary widely. The final price of your plan will fluctuate based on your age, length of trip and destination.

It will also depend on how much coverage you need, whether you add on specialized policies (like Cancel For Any Reason or pre-existing conditions coverage), whether you plan to participate in extreme sports and other factors.

In our examples above, for instance, the 35-year-old traveler taking a $2,000 trip to Italy would have spent an average $76 for a basic plan to get coverage for things like trip cancellation and interruption, baggage protection, etc. That’s a little less than 4% of the total trip cost — lower than average.

If there were multiple members in a traveling party or if they were going on, say, a rock-climbing or bungee-jumping excursion, the costs would go up.

On average, travel insurance comes to about 5% to 10% of the trip cost. However, considering many of the plans reimburse up to 100% of the trip cost (or more) for disruptions like trip cancellation or interruption, it can be a worthwhile expense if something goes wrong.

It depends. Consider the following factors that might affect your decision: You’re young and healthy, all your bookings are refundable or cancelable without a penalty, your flights are nonstop, you’re not checking bags and a credit card you carry offers some travel protections . In that case, travel insurance might not be necessary.

On the other hand, if you prepaid a large chunk of money for a nonrefundable African safari, you’re going on a Caribbean cruise in the middle of a hurricane season or you’re going somewhere where the cost of health care is high, it’s not a bad idea to buy a travel insurance plan. Here’s how to find the best travel insurance coverage for you.

If you’re thinking of booking a trip and not planning to buy travel insurance, you may want to consider at least booking refundable airfare and not prepaying for hotel, rental car and activity reservations. That way, if something goes wrong, you can cancel without losing any money.

Selecting the best travel insurance policy comes down to your needs, concerns, preferences and budget.

As you book, take a few minutes to consider what most concerns you. Is it getting stranded because of flight trouble? Having the ability to cancel for any reason you see fit without losing money? Getting sick or injured right before departure and needing to postpone the trip? Injuring yourself or falling ill while overseas?

Ultimately, you want a plan that protects you, your money and the large investment in your trip — but doesn’t cost too much, either.

Medical coverage. If your priority is having adequate medical coverage abroad, you might want to look for plans with high limits for medical emergencies and medical evacuation.

Complex travel itinerary. If your itinerary has lots of flight connections, prepaid hotels and deposits for activities you can’t get back, prioritizing a plan with the best coverage for trip cancellations or interruptions may land at the top of your list.

Travel uncertainty. If you’re on the fence about a trip and have nonrefundable reservations, you may want to select a plan with a Cancel For Any Reason coverage option, which can help you recoup about 50% to 75% of the costs. This helps provide peace of mind, placing the decision on whether to travel entirely in your hands.

Car rentals. If you’re renting a car, a collision damage waiver is often worth looking into.

10 credit cards that provide travel insurance.

Here is the list of travel cards offered by Chase that include various forms of travel insurance.

Having one of these in your wallet is a good start to protecting your travel investments and preventing expensive accidents; however, savvy travelers check card terms closely and sometimes supplement with a third-party policy, like from one of the companies above, to better protect themselves.

We used the following factors to choose insurance providers to highlight:

Breadth of coverage: We looked at how many plans each company offered plus the range of their standard plans.

Depth of coverage: We considered two data points to get a sense of how much each company pays out for common travel issues — the maximum caps for trip cancellation and trip interruption claims.

Cost: By looking at the costs for basic coverage across multiple companies, we determined an average cost for shoppers to benchmark plan prices against.

Customizability: While standard plans can cover a lot of ground, sometimes you need something a little more personal.

Customer satisfaction. Using data from Squaremouth when available, and Google Reviews as a backup, we can give kudos to companies with better track records from their clients.

No, it doesn’t necessarily get more expensive the longer you wait to purchase. However, as you put off buying insurance, you may lose access to potential plans and coverage options.

In general, buying travel insurance within a few days to two weeks of prepaying or making an initial deposit for your trip is your best bet. Assuming you’re not booking last-minute, this will provide you with access to the widest possible range of coverage options. It also helps prevent any medical conditions or storms that pop up between booking and buying a plan from ending up as excluded situations, which won’t be covered by your plan.

But, generally, many plans do allow you to buy coverage quite close to your departure date.

To get the most out of your travel insurance plan, buy it soon after making your initial prepayment or deposit to ensure you have access to the biggest menu of plans possible.

Select a plan that’s comprehensive enough to cover the travel scenarios you’re most concerned about or likely to encounter but not too expensive or laden with protections you’d never likely need.

Whatever your coverage, thoroughly review the plan so you understand what’s covered and what’s not, plus how to adhere to the plan’s rules for making a claim.

Travelers frequently use phrases like “trip insurance” and “travel insurance,” as well as “trip protection,” interchangeably, but they do mean different things, according to Stan Sandberg, founder of insurance comparison site TravelInsurance.com.

Trip insurance, or trip protection, generally refers to predeparture (or preevent) coverage if you need to cancel. You may see these plans sold by airlines, online travel agencies or even ticketed event sellers.

“You could refer to it as the portion that protects the investment in the trip,” Sandberg says.

A travel insurance plan typically includes that — plus more comprehensive benefits to protect you during your trip, from medical coverage to trip delay and lost baggage protections, and many more elements, depending on the plan.

Though travel insurance is typically not required for international trips, your personal circumstances will play a key role in whether it’s a good investment.

For instance, young, healthy travelers with few prepaid trip expenses embarking on a relatively risk-free trip may not see a need to buy a plan.

Older travelers with complicated itineraries who are visiting destinations where they could potentially fall ill or get injured — or who could encounter bad weather or some other disrupting factor along the way — may want to buy coverage.

Consider a few key questions:

How well would your health insurance plan cover you if you needed to visit a hospital overseas?

How much did you prepay for a hotel or rental car?

How much money would you be out if weather or some other flight issue derailed your itinerary?

Could you afford an unexpected night in a city where you have a connecting flight?

Do you already have a credit card that provides some travel protections?

Your answers to these questions can help you decide whether you need travel insurance for your international trip.

In general, buying travel insurance

within a few days to two weeks of prepaying or making an initial deposit

for your trip is your best bet. Assuming you’re not booking last-minute, this will provide you with access to the widest possible range of coverage options. It also helps prevent any medical conditions or storms that pop up between booking and buying a plan from ending up as excluded situations, which won’t be covered by your plan.

Another year of excellent service.

Another year of excellent service. We have been insuring with “Insure for Travel” for several years, always receiving good service. We both have medical conditions and these have been covered. Sergio has explained everything clearly, carefully and slowly (good for those of advancing years !) always finding the best price. Many thanks.

Super Service

First contacted Insure for travel with an undiagnosed medical condition earlier this year and the service I received from Sergio was great. Had such a good experience that I had no hesitation in contacting them again now I have a diagnosis. The service from both Sergio and Trish has been again been very helpful, courteous and efficient.Thank you both very much

Super efficient and helpful Company.

Super efficient and helpful Company. Proved this after my own computer mishap, whereby I had purchased the same travel Insurance 3 times. Within a very short time a member of staff from Insurefortravel (Sergio) got in touch, Informed me of the Error and rectified the Mistake. Thanks again for Great customer Service, would not hesitate too recommend or use again.

terrible service - avoid

My father was admitted to hospital over Christmas and transferred to ICU 3 days before we were due to travel, on advice of the hospital we cancelled the holiday and had a letter explaining the reasons why. Despite my father passing away on the day we were due to travel, no compassion was shown by Insurefor and although we had his death certificate they still insisted on us getting a form completed by his GP (£40 cost for them to complete) before they’d agree to pay out. After much chasing due to no feedback my wife discovered they’d approved our claim on the 24th without the doctors letter, yet we only received email confirmation of the payout yesterday - 6th Feb. The email was dated 24th and said payment would be in 5-10 working days - from when....? They’d also deducted APD which I’d not spotted in the small print and for some reason a £5 ATOL fee. Terrible communication, zero compassion, sneaky small print and bad customer service.
