Tour content varies according to which tour option you select:

• A half day, afternoon wine tasting tour
• A full day wine tasting tour that includes lunch

The Full Day Martinborough Tour can include an olive oil tasting, two lunch courses and maybe a hands-on experience at a vineyard.

The Ultimate Wine and Food Tour can include olive oil, cheese, gin, beer and wine tastings with a 3 course lunch.

The Pinot to Palliser Tour goes to Cape Palliser and Ngawi fishing village as well as to the fantastic seal colony and Cape Palliser Lighthouse. Guests also pop into Lake Ferry Hotel for lunch and enjoy a wine tasting back in Martinborough.

We will contact you in advance of your tour if an amended pick-up time is required. All tours include a pick-up either from a central city hotel or from the Wellington iSite.

Cruise Ship Passenger bookings: Your pick-up will be from the Port and is 45 minutes after the ship has docked (even if your ship has been delayed or arrives early) with 8.45am being the earliest pick-up time.

• After picking you up from your location of choice at 9.30am, we travel leisurely through the Hutt Valley and on to the Rimutaka Ranges. 
• Passing through the quiet town of Featherston, we head east to Martinborough in the Wairarapa through typical rural New Zealand countryside so you'll see plenty of sheep, cattle and deer.

That’s why I’ve put together this guide on the best Martinborough wine tours so you can explore the Martinborough wineries without the transport hassles or anyone missing out!

Martinborough winery tours make life easier by picking you up from central Martinborough, or even from your Wellington hotel, taking you straight to the best wineries in the area and returning you safely home. Some even include gourmet lunches.

If you do have your own car for getting to Martinborough and are happy finding your own way around then I’d still recommend doing a self-guided Martinborough tour by bike.

This tour is the best Wairarapa wine tour from Wellington if you are looking for a proper wine-focused day out.

While some of the other tours from Zozo travel are more rounded foodie experiences, this one is a straight-up wine tour so you can expect to spend most of your day at the Martinborough cellar doors, learning about the wines that are made and of course tasting them.

Zozo Travel is a very experienced operator who knows the Wairarapa wine region well so you can bet they’ve picked the best Martinborough wineries o take you to and they’ll make sure you have a good time.

This would be a great option for a girls’ trip to Martinborough .

From Wellington: Half-Day Foodie Tour of the Wairarapa

This is 100% the best Martinborough gourmet wine tour we would recommend for foodies, because not only do you get wine tastings, but you also stop at the best cheese shop in the Wairarapa, the best chocolate shop in the whole Wellington region and more delicious foodie destinations along the way.

While this tour isn’t specifically wine-focused you absolutely will get that glass of Martinborough pinot.

However, if you aren’t a huge wine drinker and want a more balanced Wairarapa day tour from Wellington then this is ideal for you because it really does include a bit of everything.

This could even suit non-drinkers who can swap their wine tasting for an extra chocolate tasting!

Lunch is not included in this one, although you can buy your own and to be honest if you go hard at the included food tastings you might not need it.

Martinborough Wine and Food Tour with Lunch from Wellington

This tour is very similar to the above and run by the same company, the difference, and the reason you might want to consider it is that there are quite a bit more inclusions.

With this tour, you get a Martinborough vineyard lunch with a matched drink plus craft beer tastings at the Martinborough Brewery. That’s on top of cheese, chocolate and olive oil tastings too.

Because the wineries in Martinborough are relatively close together and its mostly quiet country roads around the town, bike tours really are the perfect way to see the area and get around.

With this tour, not only do you get bike and helmet hire for the day, but Green Jersey will collect any bottles of wine you buy throughout the day to save you from lugging them around in the basket of your bike.

Pinot to Palliser is the only wine tour from Martinborough that includes some of the broader Wairarapa region.

Not only do you get to try the pinot noirs that Martinborough vineyards are known for, but you get to explore the stunning Cape Palliser, the southernmost point on the north island.

You can climb the stairs to the lighthouse and look out to the South Island in the distance, step back into history at the Māori fishing village of Ngawi and spot some seals along the way.

This tour really does what it says on the tin, it’ll show you the best of Martinborough in a day.

The best part of this tour and what distinguishes it from some of the other Martinborough wineries tours is that it goes behind the scenes, rather than just dropping in for a wine tasting, you get a full vineyard tour.

Likewise, when you visit an olive oil producer, you get to explore the whole grove.

This Martinborough tour is accessible from Wellington too as while they don’t offer transfers to the city, they will pick you up from the Featherston train station, so you just have to jump on the Wairarapa line and you’ll get there without any trouble.

This takes away the most difficult part of visiting Martinborough on your own which is transport from Featherston to Martinborough.

This tour also has one of the best lunch inclusions with two courses and matched wine available, perfect for foodies wanting a real gourmet experience.

Martinborough Wine Tours has been owned and operated by Martinborough locals since it began in 2006. Initially started by Jill Fraser it is now owned and operated by Matthew Finn and Linden Clark. They have been on food and wine tours through NZ and around the world and know what they can do to make these tours unique and special to you. Specialising in relaxed yet luxury tour experiences of the best Martinborough wineries and the unique features of the region, Matthew and the other friendly guides, Trinity, Karen and Lee, will ensure your memories of Martinborough, its people and the local wines will be pleasurable and lasting.

Martinborough Wine Tours offer an intimate experience with the wine industry. Some of the opportunities that may arise are behind the scenes visits in wineries, hands-on experiences at vintage and chatting with winemakers and vineyard owners.

Tours can encompass wine, olive oil and food tasting and barrel tastings in local wineries. Our exclusive tours include either a focused look at all that Martinborough has to offer in the way of food and wine, gin, beer etc; or a trip to Cape Palliser to enjoy the rugged Wairarapa coastline, lighthouse and fur seal colony - with lunch at Lake Ferry and a wine tasting back in Martinborough..
