Singer James Taylor gives it his all onstage.

We’ve seen fire and we’ve seen rain, but we’re happiest to see James Taylor on the road in 2023.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee is taking off on a 33-concert tour to go along with a few previously scheduled tour dates, a Las Vegas residency and, of course, his annual Tanglewood Music Festival in Lenox, MA on July 3 and July 4 .

Plus, Taylor and his All Star Band be stopping into New York and New Jersey for huge gigs at Bethel, NY’s Bethel Wood Center For the Arts on June 29, Wantagh, NY’s Northwell Health at Jones Beach on Sept. 3 and Holmdel, NJ’s PNC Bank Arts Center on Sept. 4.

Taylor’s upcoming tour comes on the heels of his sprawling 2022 jaunt across the globe — clearly, the 74-year-old soft rocker has quite a bit of gas left in the tank.

And if you want to secure tickets to hear “You’ve Got A Friend,” ‘Carolina In My Mind,” and “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” live this year, we’re happy to report that you can for cheap.

At the time of publication, we found some Taylor tickets going for as low as $18 before fees on Vivid Seats.

Not a bad price to see a legend live.

Want to know more about the tour before it launches?

We’ve got all the info you need and more below.

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

James Taylor 2023 tour schedule

The “Your Smiling Face” singer’s official 2023 tour will begin with back to back concerts at Woodinville, WA’s Chateau Ste Michelle on May 25 and May 26 .

From there, the legendary vocalist will take his talents to notable locales like Santa Barbara (May 31), Atlanta (June 16), Cincinnati (June 21), Milwaukee (June 24) and Philadelphia (July 1).

As noted earlier, Taylor’s tour comes to a close at Lenox, MA’s Koussevitzky Music Shed at Tanglewood on July 3 and July 4 .

A complete calendar including all tour dates, venues, show start times and links to buy tickets can be found here .

James Taylor Las Vegas residency

Midway through the trek, Taylor and co. will stop into Las Vegas for five concerts at The Cosmopolitan from June 3 through June 10 as part of his “Exclusive Las Vegas Engagement.”

Can’t decide which show to go to?

No problem.

We’ve found the cheapest tickets available for each show below.

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

James Taylor new music

Taylor has stayed fresh over the past few years releasing a number of unique singles like a collaboration with 86-year-old Buddy Guy , a tribute to Leonard Cohen and two stand-alones: “There She Goes” and “Pop.”

His last full-length album, 2020’s “American Standard,” sees the crooner put his spin on classics like “My Blue Heaven,” “Moon River” and “Pennies From Heaven.”

You can hear the 14-track record in its entirety here .

James Taylor set list

While Taylor often plays the hits you know and love at his live shows, he’s known for mixing in a few off the beaten path covers as well.

If you want to see which Carole King, Dinah Washington and Marvin Gaye covers he peppers into his sets, we recommend checking out Set List FM for a complete picture of what he’s played at recent live shows.

Want to go back further?

You can see what Taylor played at his very first show in 1969 at Boston, MA’s Unicorn Coffee House here .

Legendary singer-songwriter and R&R Hall of Fame inductee James Taylor and His All-Star Band will head out on the An Evening With James Taylor and His All-Star Band North American tour for summer 2023.

Shop the best of James Taylor’s discography on vinyl and more.

The run kicks off in May in Woodinville, WA, and wraps up on July 1 in Philadelphia in support of his latest release, American Standard (2020).

The summer trek is different than the Las Vegas residency Taylor and his band already announced for June 2023 at The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. That announcement arrived in January. The five-night, exclusive engagement will take over Sin City on June 3, 4, 7, 9, and 10.

In December,   Taylor shared a video of a 2018 performance of a lesser-known gem in his peerless songbook. “Nothing Like A Hundred Miles,” featured on his gold-certified 1976 album In The Pocket , comes from his show with his band on June 3 that year at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, CA.

The show came during Taylor’s North American summer tour of 2018, which came ahead of July dates in the UK and Europe including his appearance on a stellar bill with Paul Simon and Bonnie Raitt in London’s Hyde Park. Raitt had been scheduled to be the special guest on the first leg of the North American run, but had to miss the start due to an unexpected medical situation that required immediate attention. She joined the tour later that June, after Sheryl Crow had guested at three shows including the two at the Hollywood Bowl that immediately preceded the Sacramento concert.

James Taylor 2023 Tour Announcement – US Tour Schedule

James Taylor is touring again in spring and summer 2023, taking the acclaimed singer-songwriter to dozens of US cities! He’ll kick off on May 25th in Woodinville, WA, continuing through July 4th in Lenox, MA.

From playing alongside his good friend Jackson Browne to hitting the road last summer with his All-Star Band, Taylor has been performing practically nonstop over the past few years. His ever-present guitar and smooth-as-silk voice are just as strong at age 74 as they were decades ago, and you’ll have the time of your life at a James Taylor concert. From his calming ballads to more upbeat rockers, his vast catalog of hits appeals to people of all ages and musical styles.

Blending folk and soft rock with blues and occasional pop, songs like “Fire and Rain,” “You’ve Got a Friend,” “Carolina in My Mind,” and “New Tune” are gorgeous anthems for every generation. Powered by Taylor’s expert strumming and serene vocals, you’ll be both bursting with energy and unexplainably tranquil as you sway along in the crowd. Taylor’s music has touched the hearts of millions over the years, and you’ll never see these tracks the same way again after hearing them live for the first (or second, or even tenth!) time.  In addition to the classics, Taylor also continues to release new projects semi-regularly. His 20th album, 2020’s American Standard , is an assortment of jazz, pop, and theatrical covers that the singer made entirely his own! After winning a Grammy for “Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album” and embarking on several top-selling tours in the 2020s, you may think that James Taylor would want to start slowing down… but nope! He’s ready to get back on the road in all his glory and can’t wait to see you in the crowd. Get your James Taylor tickets now!

Watching a James Taylor concert at the Bowl is a lot like having dinner with an old friend when you haven’t seen each other in a while. The first few moments of playing catch-up are a bit awkward: neither of you is as young as you used to be, and it can be jarring to see when those changes hit you all at once, rather than gradually as they do with the people you see all the time. But within a few minutes you’re back to laughing and smiling the way you used to, and it doesn’t take long to remember why you loved this person so much.

Songs like his opener, “Something in the Way She Moves,” from his 1968 debut album James Taylor for Apple Records, about which he said was “the earliest song I’m willing to play in public,” are great reminders of the enduring charms of Taylor’s earnest melodies. “This was my audition piece for Apple Records. George Harrison and Paul McCartney signed me after I played it,” said Taylor. He noted rather cheekily that they liked it so much that, “afterward George went home and wrote it himself,” a reference to Harrison liking the song so much that he began with the words “Something in the way she moves” as the first line of his 1969 song “Something” from the Beatles album Abbey Road .

Up next was another old ditty, “Rainy Day Man,” followed by “Copperline,” which Taylor lyrically described as “a musical landscape painting about where I grew up in North Carolina.” The beautiful “Mona” (which previously unbeknownst to me is “about a pig and cold-hearted, cold-blooded, premeditated murder”) and a cover of the Chicks’ “Some Days You’ve Gotta Dance,” were early highlights of the show, as was the lullaby “Sweet Baby James,” an ode to Taylor’s then newborn nephew and namesake. “Shower the People,” Carole King’s “You’ve Got a Friend,” and “Fire and Rain” were among the other highlights of a lovely, heartfelt show.

The voice quality of a 75-year-old man, however spry he may be, is different than that of the 22-year-old he was when he wrote “Sweet Baby James” and many of his other hits — but what Taylor lacks in vocal range he more than makes up for in wit, charm, perspective, and the ability to put together a hell of a great band to work with. They all were exceptional, particularly Lou Marini (Blood Sweat & Tears, the original Saturday Night Live band) on sax, Andrea Zonn on vocals and fiddle, Larry Goldings on piano, and Michael Landau on guitar. And the sound mix was also notably terrific (something I usually only notice when it doesn’t work).

My only complaint about the whole lovely evening is that the band was so good, and Taylor was so charming, I wish they had trusted the music a bit more — show us more close-ups of these amazing musicians — and leaned a little less on the cheesy and unnecessarily distracting background videos. But that’s a minor matter in a show that was so memorable. It even had the perfect last two songs for the encore: the aptly reflective “Secret ‘o Life,” (“the secret of life is enjoying the things you have …”) followed by a beautiful duet of “Close Your Eyes” with Taylor’s 22-year-old son Henry Taylor, who sang back-up vocals for most of the night, but joined his father on guitar for that one.

One of the best shows I've seen! The eclectic feel of the whole program was continuous from start to finish. The musicians, the back drops and James himself blended together with such ease. At one point, a fan was near the stage to have her friend take a picture. James saw them and started talking to the lady. Made her move closer so her friend could get both of them in the picture! He was sincere, down to earth and talked to the audience several times like we were all friends. Who does that these days; J.T. If you left the show not happy or satisfied, there is something seriously wrong with you! With a 20min intermission, there were two full sets. They played 2+ hours of music! James said "we're going to play one more than go to intermission. Why we have to take intermission I don't know but was told we had to" and everyone laughed. Still down to earth after 50 years and true to his craft and his fans! If you appreciate music, no matter what genre, this show is a must see for all ages.

I’ve waited 40 years to see James Taylor and his voice is as great as it was then. The show was tremendous. I loved how before each song he would give a little story about why he wrote the song, he was so funny too! And the background effects were so moving. He introduced each band member and a photo popped up of that band member as a child. It was like being with a family. My type of show. And during the intermission he went to his fans to take photos with them and sign autographs. He did 4 encores. Just melted my heart ❤️ James Taylor is a true gem, a genuine soul that has blessed us with his talent for decades! I would highly recommend his show to anyone who appreciates musical talent at its best. He is truly loved by everyone who works with him and who comes in his path even if it’s us fans.

A definite Top 10 concert for me. I've seen JT and Bonnie Raitt separately, four times. Love them both. They sing the music of my lifetime. The setting at AT&T Park surpassed my expectation. After Bonnie Raitt played for over an hour, James Taylor blew it out of the park for over an hour and a half, THEN they came out together and performed several songs, then encores, then ONE MORE!

Thought the magic of the night would never end.

Such a fun show. Loved every second of being in their company.

James Taylor brings folk to Frost — to mixed results

a photo of a stage with several instruments and musicians. video footage of the drummer is being shown on a large screen behind the performers. the audience can be seen in front of the stage.

Tuesday night’s James Taylor concert brought together audiences from all walks of life. For some reason, I was in awe at the sheer volume of fedoras, flat caps, baseball hats and glasses retainers — fashion faux-pas for self-conscious Gen Z-ers but a welcome sight for me. Unlike last week’s Frostfest , this Frost Amphitheater concert drew a multi-generational crowd that went beyond rowdy Stanford students. As a 21st century college student, I almost felt a bit out of place.

Looking at the concert objectively, the most impressive part of Taylor’s performance was his skillful guitar playing. His signature style consists of deeply involved fingerpicking and unique chord structures. Despite occasionally struggling for a solo in tracks like “Everybody Has the Blues,” his fingerpicked playing was strong and dynamic.

His chord progressions were quite satisfying at times. On the dead pig ballad “Mona,” where he bizarrely describes a “12 gauge surprise” for his pet pig, there’s a classic descending figure along the lines of D – A/C# – Bm – D/A – G – D/F# – E7. I love this songwriting trick of ending with the 7th chord, though the song’s irreverence created a bit of confusion. I was supposed to be laughing, right?

Taylor had a great sense of humor that he loved to show off between each track. When introducing “October Road,” Taylor began explaining the songs reflections on spirituality before cutting himself off with a cuss. He then laughed, telling the audience “you know” before diving directly into the tune.

Drummer Steve Gadd, one of the most legendary session musicians of the 20th century , had many moments to shine in the concert. His propulsive playing added energy to what would otherwise be fairly soft music. The songs where he was allowed to truly unleash were probably my favorite parts of the concert, as his technique is wildly dynamic and far more jazzy than you might expect.

Those objective notes about the quality of instrumentation are about as glowing as I can personally be about his work. In general, I had a hard time connecting with Taylor’s music. For example, I found the 12-bar blues of “Steamroller” to be a little embarrassing — largely thanks to Taylor’s incoherent, nearly parodic vocal performance.

There weren’t many moments for emotional connection either. To be fair, soft rock and adult contemporary have never been my favorite genres, but regardless, in the era of Neil Young, Bob Dylan, or even Fleetwood Mac, Taylor’s acoustic singer-songwriter sound left much to be desired.

Taylor’s inoffensive style was likely a product of the rapidly changing state of 1970s America. Taylor rose to fame at an era after Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix injected music with psychedelic fury (and subsequently joined the 27 Club), the funeral for the Summer of Love had commenced and the Vietnam War raged on. Maybe it was natural for a light-hearted act like Captain & Tennille or Taylor to pop up. Regardless, I don’t think that makes for the most compelling or interesting music.

When I consider the seminal releases that emerged at the same time as Taylor’s work, such as Neil Young’s “Harvest” (which features Taylor on two of its finest tracks), I am stunned by the somewhat insipid lyricism of Taylor in comparison to his peers. Take, for instance, the beginning verses of Tuesday night’s second set opener, “Jump Up Behind Me,”where Taylor rhymes the word “home” with itself four times in eight lines.

“This land is a lovely green /It reminds me of my own home / Such children I’ve seldom seen /Even in my own home / The sky is so bright and clean / Just like my home / Kind people as have ever been / Won’t you take me back to my own home?”

And this is a late career composition! The more I began to consider the emotional centerpieces of his music, the more I started to feel like a fish out of water. Even though my dad called me before the concert to express his immense jealousy, I felt close to no emotions while actually listening to Taylor’s music.

This is not to say that Taylor or his band are bad performers or that his songwriting is not impressive. It’s more so a testament to how music taste has evolved between generations. I loved seeing the (mostly older) audience’s enthusiasm for Taylor, waving their hands and cheering during every open pocket of silence — it was radiant and somewhat infectious. It must be a “you had to be there” moment.

Close to the end of his set, Taylor performed his most famous song, “Fire and Rain,” which stands out in his discography as a genuinely affecting song. There was an awe-induced silence in the audience from the strum of the recognizable first chord. For three and a half minutes, I completely understood Taylor. The lyrics were hard-hitting, the guitar was wonderful, and you could feel a palpable sense of emotion in the crowded amphitheater. Maybe those three and a half minutes were enough.
