Les Misérables UK arena tour cast and dates announced

Les misérables: the arena spectacular is coming this september.

By Adam Lawler

Cast image from Les Miserables showing two men onstage

The cast of the upcoming arena tour of Les Misérables has been announced, with musical legends Alfie Boe, Killian Donnelly, Michael Ball, and Bradley Jaden leading the UK cast.

Kicking off its world tour in Belfast’s SSE Arena in September, Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular will expand on the production of the popular West End production, with a new set created for larger venues.

The world tour comes as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of the original English stage production, which has been running on the West End since 1985, the longest in its history.

“The spectacular world arena tour of the Les Misérables concert has been a dream of mine for many years,” the show’s producer Cameron Mackintosh said. “With Les Mis’ 40th phenomenal year starting this October, there couldn’t be a better time for it to happen.”

Who is starring in Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular ?

On the UK dates, the role of Jean Valjean will be shared between Alfie Boe and Killian Donnelly. Taking on the role of Javert will be Michael Ball and Bradley Jaden

Boe, renowned for his remarkable tenor voice and performances on both the West End and Broadway, is set to reprise one of his most celebrated roles. Alongside him, Donnelly, fresh from his acclaimed portrayal of the same character at London’s Sondheim Theatre and his role as Combeferre in the 2012 film adaptation, will bring his own interpretation to the part.

Ball, a distinguished figure in musical theatre with a history of performances on the grand stages of West End and Broadway, returns to the role of Javert, offering his unique depth to the character. Jaden, celebrated for his previous portrayal of Javert at the Sondheim Theatre, will once again embody the antagonist, completing a cast of exceptionally talented actors for these pivotal roles.

An adaptation of the 1862 novel by Victor Hugo, Les Misérables follows the story of Jean Valjean, a French peasant searching for redemption after serving 19 years in prison for a petty crime. When he breaks his parole and attempts to start life anew, he is pursued by the relentless police inspector Javert.

Initial cast announced for Les Miserables World Tour

les miserables cast uk tour

Initial casting has been announced for the World Tour Les Miserables The Arena Spectacular opening in September 2024.

Les Miserables Arena Spectacular

The World Tour kicks off at the SAE Arena Belfast on 19 September 2024 featuring a cast and orchestra of over 65.

Les Miserables The Arena Spectacular World Tour

Cameron Mackintosh said today “The spectacular world arena tour of the Les Misérables concert has been a dream of mine for many years. With Les Mis’ 40th phenomenal year starting this October, there couldn’t be a better time for it to happen. A dream concert deserves a dream cast and I couldn’t be more thrilled to announce that the first UK leg of the tour, which opens in Belfast in September and is already more than two thirds sold out, will star Alfie Boe or Killian Donnelly as Jean Valjean and Michael Ball or Bradley Jaden as Javert, heading a cast and orchestra of over 65. Many other favourite Les Misérables performers, chosen from all over the world, will be announced in a few weeks’ time. After the UK, the world tour will play many cities across Europe, the Middle East, Australia, Korea, Japan and several other Asian cities before it returns to Europe and beyond. With the Les Misérables movie now being re-released in cinemas across the world in its completely remixed digital glory, sounding and looking better than ever, and with the London and North American productions still regularly breaking attendance records, Les Misérables is a true phenomenon – The People’s Musical – and the only musical ever to be simultaneously a hit on stage, screen and in concert arenas. Boublil and Schönberg, Herbert Kretzmer and I owe our inspiration to the genius of Victor Hugo’s masterpiece.”

WHAT IS LES MISÉRABLES ABOUT?

“I dreamed a dream in time gone by, when hope was high and life worth living. I dreamed that love would never die. I dreamed that God would be forgiving.”

The year is 1832. Jean Valjean, a French peasant who stole a loaf of bread and ended up spending 19 years in gaol for his trouble, is living to regret it. Then he goes and jumps parole which doesn’t go down well with Javert, a particularly jobsworth cop who, with his unshakeable belief in the letter of the law, obsessively hounds Valjean until… well, if you want the whole story, read Victor Hugo’s novel. No? You prefer your French classics delivered in the form of a musical and theatrical triumph? Now you’re talking.

Because, thanks to the creative team that includes composer Claude-Michel Shönberg and writer Alain Boublil , and songs including One Day More , I Dreamed a Dream and Do You Hear the People Sing? that’s exactly what ‘Les Mis’ is.

Secure your tickets today because this show will sell-out.

Les Misérables – The Staged Concert announces full cast and further performances

First Published 30 November 2020, Last Updated 1 December 2020

We have some brilliant news for Les Mis fans to start the week including full casting and more performance dates, so if you missed out on tickets the first time, it might be your chance to get your hands on some!

The sell-out Christmas season of Les Misérables -The Staged Concert which reopens on 5 December at the Sondheim Theatre has today announced that the run will extend to 28 February 2021. Additional dates have been added to help accommodate Patrons who are affected by the Government’s latest directive requiring Theatres to further reduce their seating capacity to a maximum of 50%. Extra performances have also been added to enable the public who have so far been unable to get tickets to see the show.

Public excitement for Les Misérables -The Staged Concert was exceptional and tens of thousands of people had to be turned away. The original six-week run was announced in mid-October and within twenty-four hours was extended to 31 January 2021. Before public booking opens for the new performances at 10am on 4 December 2020, priority booking will be given to those Patrons who need to be re-seated.

This spectacular production has a Company of over 50 actors and musicians drawn from the alumni of several productions of Les Misérables, who will play to a now further reduced seating capacity of under 600. Strict Covid safety measures and social distancing will be followed front of house, on stage, backstage and throughout the building. In preparation for the opening Cameron Mackintosh has connected the Sondheim with his other theatre next door, the Gielgud, in order for the production to utilise backstage facilities and dressing rooms, doubling the backstage space to ensure the maximum safety of the performers and the staff.

The cast comprises Michael Ball as Javert, Alfie Boe as Jean Valjean, Carrie Hope Fletcher as Fantine, Matt Lucas as Thénardier, Rob Houchen as Marius, Bradley Jaden as Enjolras, Katy Secombe as Madame Thénardier, Shan Ako as Éponine, Amara Okereke as Cosette and at certain performances John Owen-Jones will again play the role of Jean Valjean. The Company also includes Kelly Agbowu, Joseph Anthony, Harry Apps, Charlie Burn, Gerard Carey, Earl Carpenter, Richard Carson, Danny Colligan, Rodney Earl Clarke, Matthew Dale, Matt Dempsey, Josefina Gabrielle, Nic Greenshields, Jessie Hart, Holly-Anne Hull, Ebony Jonelle, Connor Jones, Jessica Joslin, Luke McCall, Frances Mayli McCann, Leo Miles, Corrine Priest, Aaron Pryce-Lewis, Jon Robyns, Grainne Renihan and Samuel Wyn-Morris.

For the new performances the majority of the Company will be able to continue, however the four principals – Michael Ball, Alfie Boe, Carrie Hope Fletcher and Matt Lucas – will only be able to play a limited number of these dates due to previous commitments. John Owen-Jones continues to play the role of Jean Valjean at certain performances and Shan Ako and Amara Okereke continue to play the roles of Eponine and Cosette respectively. The acclaimed stars of the new full production of Les Misérables including Jon Robyns, Bradley Jaden, Gerard Carey and Josefina Gabrielle, which opened earlier this year at the Sondheim theatre, plus the stars of the UK National Tour, Dean Chisnall and Nic Greenshields, will be leading this Company for the extension period. Due to the current situation all cast appearances are subject to availability.
