MEKONG DELTA BOAT OVERNIGHT CRUISE

' itemprop=

Mekong Delta is a basin made by silt which Mekong River has brought from Himalaya and pours into the sea. That huge flat area is then extremely fertile and great for cultivation and planting. Famed as the rice bowl of Vietnam, it is home to a complex system of distributaries and is dotted with countless rice fields, fruit orchards, handicraft villages and floating markets. Along with the fertility in nature is the diversity in the lifestyle and etiquette. Then the discovery of two days can help to exposure more the charm of the land.

More than that, the trip will have one night stay overnight on the boat with private carriage, among the Mekong countryside sound, smell, with great food served and local daily life over the window.

The tour is a real penetration into the green color of water coconuts, the big river, the maze of canals, and especially the daily life of Mekong people.

Less moving and more time on boats will bring you the feeling of catching up all local daily life, especially in Mekong where two thirds of transportation is made by boat and all houses make canals the main traffic way. Less transferring among buses, boats, restaurants, hotels, sightseeing also bring you freedom on enjoying the scene passing by your window. Just sit down and do that with a cup of tea, among the sunset and sunrise of mighty Mekong Delta.

We will stay overnight on wooden or metal boats with well-equipped cabin among twelve nicely decorated ones of that, with air-con and a private bathroom, with a 500 sqft restaurant that opens all around, and 1500 sqft of upper deck mostly covered.

Depend on the boat schedule and our drop off and pick up points can vavy. Please see the following starting -ending point.

The tour cost is with inclusions of transportation, guide, boats, entrance fees, twin sharing rooms,  1 special lunch and 1 dinner when you are on board.

The tour starts from 8:00 AM this day and last until around 6:00 PM of the following.

Change the atmosphere by making a visit to a village on the banks of river Mang Thit, an opportunity to appreciate the way of life and hospitality of the local inhabitants. Make further walking into the orchard or rice fields nearby.

DAY 2: CAI BE –SAIGON

The view is not only the daily life along the river and canal banks, but also the small boats of the local people with boat full of fruits on the way to the market.

As the ship arrives in Cai Be, make check-out of your ship and board of a local boat for a tour of Cai Be floating market and handicraft to have even more close-up to this stunning view of boat world.

Tour Program

The Mekong  Eyes Classic combines regional boat-building traditions with modern comforts to become the perfect holiday vessel to cruise the Mekong Delta in style. At 39 m long and 8.5 m wide, the Mekong Eyes river cruiser was built out of an old, traditional rice barge with the finest quality wood, and artfully decorated by skilled craftsmen of the Mekong Delta.

There are 14 lavishly furnished twin and double rooms, each with a private bathroom with shower and hot water, wardrobe and air-conditioning. All rooms offer a fantastic panoramic view over the Mekong River.

The Dragon Eyes is a vacation paradise for couples, families or friends. Cruising on the vast waters and the small canals of the mighty Mekong river is a great way to discover the Mekong Delta.

At the same time the river cruise boats are big enough to provide you with ample space for relaxation and privacy. Each of the Dragon Eyes provides around 100 m2 for its guests. It’s like a floating hotel:

Two spacious private cabins (14 — 16 m2), providing a nicely designed bath room, a French balcony, sitting area, individual air conditioning, fans and fantastic Mekong river views through the panorama windows.

Mekong Melody (2 cabins) is a cosy river boat, perfectly well-suited to private cruises. Entirely made of wood, it sails with ease on the many winding canals of the Mekong Delta, in perfect harmony with its natural setting. Displaying a subtle combination of comfort and charm, the boat also benefits from a high quality and personalised service provided by an attentive crew. Thanks to Mekong Melody, the Mekong Delta’s secrets are being unveiled along the river in a quiet and intimate atmosphere imbued with magic.

Douce Mekong (4 cabins) is a modern river boat entirely made of wood that sets the exploration of the Mekong Delta in an authentic and elegant setting which perfectly fits in with the natural surroundings. It combines charm and comfort for a truly quiet cruise on the winding canals of the Delta.

Le Cochinchine cruise (8 cabins): Conceived as the traditional rice-barges that fill the Mekong waterways, Le Cochinchine is an elegant and delightful river boat that promises a peaceful and highly comfortable journey along the many canals of the Mekong Delta. Mekong Delta cruise – Complete guide & 5 best cruises

  • Mekong Delta

One of the best ways to explore the Mekong Delta is with a Mekong Delta cruise. Cruise the rivers in a luxury boat and enjoy the beautiful views along the way. Stop at various spots for trips to get a closer look at local life.

What to expect during a Mekong Delta Cruise

The Mekong River, which flows into Vietnam, actually starts 4000 kilometers further up in China and runs through Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Cambodia. This makes it the twelfth longest river in the world and the sixth in Asia. Once in Vietnam, the river splits to form a delta, which everyone knows as the Mekong Delta . The rivers are connected with canals, which are then connected with smaller streams.

The people who live in this delta area have completely adapted to the water and their whole lives revolve around this. For example, the water is used for fishing, it provides fertile soil that is perfect for fruit and rice cultivation and the harvested crops are then transported over the water and even sold on floating markets. It is a unique life that you can only see in this part of Vietnam.

Of course, the best way to see this is to take part in getting out on the water. You can arrange a boat trip from every village and city that lies along the water that takes you over the rivers and through the narrower canals. But what might give a much more fantastic experience is a Mekong Delta cruise.

Because how wonderful it is to be able to watch life along and on the water directly from the balcony of your room, the restaurant or the deck. You have luxury Mekong Delta cruises to midrange cruises. But in addition to the class of the cruise, it is important to look at the cruise itinerary, as each cruise may travel a different route and visit different points of interest.

It is true that during a Mekong Delta cruise you can of course enjoy beautiful views directly from the boat, but most boat trips include trips with activities such as visiting villages, cycling and boat trips in small traditional sampan rowing boats that take you to places get where the big boat can’t. Check out some of these Mekong Delta cruise highlights below to better orient yourself on what to see and do, making it easier to determine which river cruise is right for you.

Highlights of a Mekong Delta cruise

1. floating markets.

For many travelers, the floating markets in the Mekong Delta are the highlight. The many fruit orchards and rice plantations that line the water load their crops directly from a land into the boats in the rivers and canals. Then those boats go to a collection point to trade with each other, creating a floating market, sometimes hundreds of boats. It is unique to see how they negotiate and move goods from one boat to another and then distribute them further. The largest and most famous market on the water is the Cai Rang Floating Market .

2. Life on the river

When you take a river cruise with Mekong Delta, you can see life on the water directly from your boat. What will stand out the most are the many other ships that are fully loaded with local products. You will see boats full of pineapples, watermelons, coconuts, bananas, sand, bricks and flowers, among other things.

Along the side of the water you will see the ships being loaded. Fishermen sit on smaller boats on the river and use rods and casting nets to catch their fish. Some villages and towns even have houses on stilts in the water.

3. Stop for activities

Of course you can see a lot directly from a Mekong Delta river cruise, but there is also a chance that you will miss something that does not happen directly along the river. For that reason, most cruises also organize activities on the mainland (included). Think, for example, of visiting a fruit orchard where you can pick and taste fruit yourself, a bike ride through the countryside and visiting a local factory or workshop where they make rice paper, honey, rice wine or coconut sweets. This way you have the best of both a Mekong Delta cruise and a “normal” Mekong Delta tour.

5x Best Mekong Delta cruise

1. funan cruise.

Funan Mekong Delta Cruise

The best Mekong Delta Cruise is the luxury Funan cruise. Depending on which day you go there are different routes. You can visit the Cai Rang floating market and there are opportunities for cycling and visiting villages.

Book this luxury Mekong Delta cruise here.

2. Lotus Cruise (to Phnom Penh)

Lotus Mekong Delta Cruise

Are you planning to go from Vietnam to Cambodia (or vice versa) through the Mekong Delta and you like luxury, a lot of luxury, then the Lotus Cruise is the best Mekong Detla cruise you can wish for.

3. Song Xanh Sampan Private Cruise

Song Xanh Sampan Private Mekong Delta Cruise

Perhaps the Song Xanh Sampan is the best Mekong Delta cruise, as it is one of the only options for a private cruise. The boat is made of a traditional Sampan boat and fully equipped. This is certainly a very special experience.

4. Mekong Eyes

Mekong Eyes

Mekong Eyes has a number of boats with different routes, including to Cambodia, Phu Quoc or a round trip from Ho Chi Minh City. Some of their boats are slightly smaller, which makes a boat trip a little more personal, only there is less room to move and for facilities.

Bassac Mekong Delta cruise

The Bassac Cruise has room for 24 passengers and sails the popular route between Cai be and Can Tho on the Mang Thit River where you have the Tra On Floating Market .

Best time to do a Mekong Delta river cruise

You can do a Mekong Delta cruise all year round, although there are two clear seasons:

  • The rainy season lasts from May to November. So you can expect less pleasant weather during this time, but the water is also higher in some places, making it easier for boats to get everywhere.
  • The dry season lasts from December to April. In these months the water is lower in some places, but you can expect clear blue skies.

Regardless of the season, the Mekong Delta is warm (or hot for some people) all year round. Expect temperatures between 25 degrees and 32 degrees.

How many days should I take a Mekong Delta river cruise?

Most Mekong Delta cruise trips last two to three days, which is enough to get a good impression. An overnight stay also gives you the chance to visit a morning-only floating market, making it impossible to see in a day trip from Ho Chi Minh City.

Do Mekong Delta cruises start from Ho Chi Minh City?

Most Mekong Delta cruises do not depart directly from Ho Chi Minh City. In general, you first go by car or bus to the port somewhere in the Mekong Delta, usually My Tho.

What are the alternatives for a Mekong Delta cruise?

With the Mekong Delta speedboat tour you go directly from Ho Chi Minh City to the Mekong Delta. It’s a great option because you won’t be driving for more than an hour or sometimes two on the road at first, but can enjoy the great outdoors and riverside life from the very first moment.

There are also plenty of other tours where you first start with a car or bus from Ho Chi Minh City. The excursions can also take you to places that are further away from the river and can even be combined with a follow-up trip to Cambodia, Con Dao or Phu Quoc. Amazing Experience

Mango Home is a real retreat. We had two days, one night and wished we had longer to stay. We had a lovely personal guide to show us how the locals live; we floated on the river and had a cooking lesson. The market was a highlight. Individual villas studded through the gardens with the bathroom a unique delight - huge and very well appointed.

An interesting voyage that gives you a feeling for nature and rural life along the Hau river as the Bassac (a boat built in the style of a traditional rice barge) gently cruises along. The captain did a great job navigating us through the river traffic, the crew are all charming and professional, the en-suite cabins very well equipped, comfortable and kept at a wonderful temperature, and the food outstanding. I have no idea how they can produce such sophisticated, fresh and tasty meals onboard a vessel of this size. Outings included an hour-long cycle ride through countryside and small villages, with a stop at a local family’s garden to cool down and taste fresh fruit. The following day, we took a speedboat to the wholesale floating market (Cai Be), which was as authentic as it gets. Hurry up and book before these traditions disappear, it will not be long before floating markets - if they exist - will become mere tourist attractions. We also visited the home of a local bamboo basket-weaving family, which gave us an insight on how laborious and time-consuming this work is. We never felt under pressure to buy anything, if anything it was clear the whole thing was not designed with that in mind. Drinks onboard were charged separately but were very reasonably priced. Thank you Bassac 3 captain and crew, you have been amazing and gave us wonderful lasting memories. Read more Written 26 April 2024

My mum and I (aged 75 & 40) ended our trip around Vietnam with this 1 night River Cruise. It was extremely peaceful time and the food delicious! 12 cabins on the boat in total but there were only 6 of us on our trip which was perfect. The cabins are small but comfortable with air conditioning, bathroom and shower. We enjoyed both excursions and learnt a lot about village/town life in the Mekong region. The crew were great and very friendly, they spoke excellent English and French The food and beverages were good quality and the slow pace of life was reflected on board, it certainly less frantic compared to Ho Chi Minh City. The cabins are small, however absolutely fine for one night. They are en-suite and are very clean. Read more Written 3 April 2024
  • 876PeterL876 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Wonderful 22 hours on a beautiful vessel. Unlike another earlier reviewer, we are currently having a totally enjoyable experience since this cruise started earlier today. The crew are wonderful , food is good( lunch included coconut prawns, calamari, catfish and beef stir fry) and the vessel is beautiful and totally different experience to the the rubbish- strewn Halong Bay, full of too many brightly lit and often noisy cruise boats. This is a working, living waterway- it is NOT a "Heart of Darkness " jungle experience. It is also not a flora, fauna or wildlife experience. We have just seen a glorious sunset before we have cocktails and dinner( soup, spring rolls,pork/ sea bass , banana and chocolate pancakes) 😋 Yes accommodation is smaller than some other cruise boats but it is beautifully fitted out in wood. Perfectly adequate bathroom for 1 night.Cabins have a/c and comfortable double or single beds. Just had a 6 km cycle around a local village guided by a local lady and fruit and tea at a local house. For us this is about seeing life on the waterways of the delta and the ways that locals live their lives and interact with the delta. We will have a wonderful 22 hours on Bassic 2 and enjoy the whole experience - priceless ! Read more Written 18 March 2024
  • Bootneck40F 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles A poor experience, at a very high price! Distinctly average. An expensive way to sit on a cramped boat while eating poor food, all the while looking at the banks of what is effectively a canal. Why not head up river to see some birdlife, flora and fauna, instead of the detritus of the Mekong Estuary. The bike ride was enjoyable, but we simply followed a local lady on a 7km route. No commentary. The room was extremely cramped, which I had read about beforehand, but beware, the walls between the cabins are extremely thin so you can hear EVERYTHING! My wife and I were kept awake all night by a German lady coughing next door. I was asked my dietary requirements, which were then ignored! Very, very poor value for money compared to the Ha Long Bay experience. Perhaps my own fault as I booked it through a travel agent and didn’t do enough research myself. Shame, we were very much looking forward to it. We couldn’t wait to get off the boat after 22 hours. Read more Written 15 March 2024

The cabin and bathroom were too small, you only have air conditioning in your room. It 's too hot to sit outside to enjoy the view during the day time. The food was just standard Vietnamese dishes nothing special. The staff was just doing their job. We even in the tour cycle around without any staff instruction only cycling. The food on board was very good and freshly prepared. The cabins are small but comfortable, the shower is good, but an experience as the bathroom is small, the smallest wet room we have ever seen, so you shower on a slated floor between the sink & the toilet. Our guide Euey ( not sure on the spelling) was a perfect guide so knowledgeable, kind, helpful and his English was impeccable. There was a tour of 21 French people and us so it felt like we had are own personal guide. Thank you. We cycled, went to the floating market, watched a basket weaver in his own home. • 706AndrewP 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Gentle cruise and fascinating views The other reviewers describe this well - the small but comfortable and cute cabins, excellent food and terrific staff, and the village walk or cycle options. We didn't visit the floating market - not sure why, perhaps it wasn't on that day, but be aware that the market isn't guaranteed. Instead, we were taken through a tiny canal barely wide enough for the 'canoe', the 'driveway' as it were for the homes hidden in the trees. It was utterly fascinating. Be aware though, that this is not a pretty cruise with unspoiled landscapes in a pristine wilderness. The Mekong and the canals we passed through are working rivers, with a passing parade of boats from steel barges larger than the Bassac piled high with gravel, to single-person paddled sampans. Some of Vietnam's poorest people live along the canals, and it is an odd feeling to be gliding past these tottering huts whilst fine dining. But it is utterly fascinating and a much truer look at a part of Vietnam not tricked out for tourists. I, and I hope my daughter, came away with a much greater appreciation of how lucky we were to be on a boat as lovely as the Bassac, in great company with gorgeous food. Highly recommended. • RichardFree 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Worth doing whilst on a tour of Vietnam. Went on an overnight cruise on the Mekong. Our boat was Bassac 3. The crew were attentive and friendly. Compared to our cruise in Ha Long Bay, the accommodation on the boat was more basic; a small cabin with ensuite shower room, and two single beds. However, food was good and drinks reasonably priced. On the first day we were taken on a guided trip to a village (choice of either cycling or walking; I think the walkers saw more and learnt more than the cyclists). The following morning after checking out we were taken on a smaller launch to visit a floating market and then a traditional basked weaver. Two days was sufficient. We had an overnight cruise on the Bassac boat. The cabins are small but fully equipped. The staff are pleasant and our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. We were taken on a tour round someof the local area and were given lots of interestig information about the lives of the local people. Lunch, dinner and breakfast are served on board and the food was excellent.

River Cruise on Luxurious Radisson Boat

Equipped with ice-breaking technology, these huge fancy yachts are the only river cruisers running all year around. The round trip journey takes two and a half hours and floats past all the big sights like the White House, Novodevichy monastery and the Kremlin. There’s a large open air observation deck up top, while the main body of the ship houses a restaurant with a dance floor for a romantic post dinner dance. For a particularly romantic experience take one of the evening boats and admire the bright lights of the city skyline at night.

The most relaxing and picturesque tour that Moscow can offer: a great way to see the city center and its main attractions. This is a perfect alternative to exploring the city by car, if you only have time to do sightseeing during weekday rush hours.

Your English-speaking guide is eager to share every bit of their knowledge about the surrounding landscape, the architecture and historical details.

We conduct Moscow river tour on Radisson Flotilla boats all year around!  It’s warm inside during winter months, while there’s air conditioning during hot summer days. You may also treat yourself to drinks, lunch or dinner on board (drinks and food are not included in tour price).
